Vivian Moore
Vivian Moore, 88, of Palenville, N. Y., formerly of Greenville, N.Y., passed away March 2, 2003, at her residence. She was born in Manhattan on December 15, 1914, daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Waters) Calapa. Mrs. Moore was the owner, with her husband, Russell Baumann, of Baumann’s Brookside Resort in Greenville, N. Y. She was an avid dancer and enjoyed traveling. She was a communicant of St. Johns Baptist Church in Greenville, NY. She was predeceased by husbands, Joseph Callahan and Russell Baumann.
Surviving are her husband Edward Moore of Deerfield Beach, Fl; daughter Carol Schreiber and her husband Richard of Greenville, NY; three grandchildren, Lt. Col. Richard Schreiber and his wife Lynn of Woodbridge, VA, Rosemary Lewis and her husband Kevin of Greenville, NY and Courtney Reinhard and her husband Jason of Syracuse, NY; also four great-grandchildren, Emily and Pierce Schreiber and Tucker and Russell Lewis and a sister Josephine Galgano of Coram, NY.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, March 6, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81 in Greenville, NY, with a Mass Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville, NY. Spring Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery.
Those who wish to may contribute in Vivian’s memory to the Greenville Public Library.

Freda Jordan
Mrs. Freda Jordan, age 84, of Valley Road in Catskill, died Monday, March 3rd, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. She was born February 19,1919 in Roxbury, NY, the daughter of the late Frank and Dora (Sharpe) Lutz.
Freda was an employee at the Red Carpet Inn in Stamford prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Reformed Dutch Church of Prattsville and later attended the Cairo United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Jordan was predeceased by her husband Chester Jordan in June, 2000, and a brother Leon Lutz.
Mrs. Jordan is survived by two sons, Terry Jordan and wife Debbie of Latham and Fred Jordan and wife Cindy of Ravena; a sister, Zada All of Stamford; a sister-in-law, Miriam Lutz of Stamford; three grandchildren, Anne Jordan, Andrew Jordan and Elizabeth Jordan, all of Latham.
Relatives and friends may call at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Cairo United Methodist Church. The Rev. Retta Lykins, Pastor, will officiate. Spring interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Prattsville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cairo United Methodist Church Women, PO Box 552, Cairo, NY 12413 or Reformed Dutch Church, PO Box 42, Prattsville, NY 12468.

Herbert Williams
Herbert Williams, 82, of Hannacroix, died Friday, February 28, 2003 at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill. He was born in New Baltimore, son of the late Luke and Grace Williams. Herbert was an Army veteran, serving as a paratrooper in Germany during WWII. He was a member of the Coxsackie American Legion.
Survivors include his children, Henrietta Daoust of Castleton, Herbert Jr. of Coeymans Hollow, Eugene of Rensselaer and David of FL; brother of Francis of West Coxsackie; sister Ethel VanWormer of New Baltimore; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother David and sister Marian Seeberger.
All services will be private at the convenience of the family, under the direction of the Babcock Funeral Home in Ravena.

Vincent L. Viola
Vincent L. Viola, born on April 27, 1932, died March 8, 2003. He was the son of the late Vincenzo and Concetta Meccariello Viola of White Plains, NY. He was predeceased by his second wife Christina Rynne Viola. He was a postal worker for many years in White Plains. A longtime resident of Cairo, NY, he retired from the Cairo School District.
He is survived by his first wife, Olga Viola of White Plains and his four daughters: Carol Meighan of NY; Roberta Sprague of Homewood, IL; Lisa De Cicco of Rye Brook, NY and Jennifer Braca of Mahopac, NY. He was blessed with ten grandchildren.
At his request, there will not be a wake. A private family service will be held, interment at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Vallhalla, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church in Cairo, NY. A Memorial Mass will be held at his local parish for his beloved community members at a date to be announced.
He would like to be remembered after the sadness of his departure from our lives eases from our hearts a little. A compassionate man and cat lover, he will be in many hearts as he tried to touch so many people’s lives with his kindness and humor.

Everett C. Matthews
Everett C. Matthews, 89 years, of Oak Hill, NY, passed away at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY, on March 8, 2003. He was born in Norton Hill, NY on Sept. 6, 1913, son of the late Archibald and Sadie (Cameron) Matthews. He had been employed by the Operating Engineers Local #106 in Albany, NY and retired in 1978.
Everett was a member of and President of the Mt. Nebo Hunting Club, the Potter Hollow Grange and was a Charter Member and 50-year Member of Oak Hill-Durham Vol. Fire Co. He enjoyed his family, hunting and his fishing. He was predeceased by his wife Natalie (Hull) Matthews, two sisters and three brothers.
Surviving are his daughter Cheryl Hulbert and her husband Bernard, a son Craig Matthews and his wife Linda, his grandchildren; Donovan Hulbert, Aaron Matthews and his wife Christine; Heather Champlin and her husband Brian; Fawn Hallenbeck and her husband Chad and his great-grandchildren, Lauren, Katie and Haley Matthews, Briana and Christopher Champlin, Jacob, Mathew, Meghan and Mikaela Hallenbeck. Also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on March 12 form the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, NY. Spring interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Those who desire may contribute in his memory to the Mt. Nebo Hunting Club, c/o Mark Reynolds, 218 Alcove Rd., Coeymans Hollow, NY 12046 or the American Cancer Society.

Kenneth Stephen Layman
Kenneth Stephen Layman, passed away on March 18, 2003,age 67 years 340 days, at Hospice of St. Peter’s from complication due to lung cancer. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 12, 1935.
He was the son of Elizabeth J. Grunewald Layman and Raymond H. Layman. He was a beloved husband of Barbara A. Layman for 43 years. He was beloved father of Edith S. Layman, Karen L. Faxon and Christopher R. Layman; beloved father-in-law of Timothy S. Faxon and beloved Dad to Joanne Shay and William Casper; beloved Grandpa to Paul D. LaPlante, Jennifer L. LaPlante, Andrea G. LaPlante, Jillian L. Faxon, Rebecca LaPlante, Nicholas I. Faxon and Ryan W. Layman. His is survived by brother William G. Layman and wife Mary Layman; brother and sister-in-law Victor L. and Gail F. LaPlante, predeceased by brother Raymond Layman. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews, JoAnne LaPlante, James T. LaPlante, John E. LaPlante, Darlene Layman, Raymond Layman, Michael Layman, and Marie Garcia; also his special friend Everett “Bud” LaPlante and the late Edward Trudell and his wife Joyce and all their children who called him “Uncle.”
In high school, he loved baseball. He was scouted by the National League. His favorite team was the Brooklyn Dodgers.
He enlisted in the Air Force in 1954 and served his county with pride. He was a dispatcher and manager for Mitchell Transport for many years, and retired from Hannay Reels, Westerlo, New York after 25 years.
He was very active in American Legion Post 291, Greenville. He was past Post Commander and past Commander of Greene County. He was also Oratorical Chairman of Post 291 and Greene County.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping with his family. He was a charter member of the “Trout Tramps.” He was a coin collector and loved animals, especially his cats. He will be sorely missed.
Funeral service was Thursday, March 20 at the Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville.
The American Legion Post No. 291 conducted a service at 7:30 p. m.
Interment will be in the spring in the Greenville Cemetery.
Those who wish may contribute in Kenneth’s memory to the Stratton VA Medical Center Hospital, Volunteer Office Albany, New York or Community Hospice, or the American Cancer Society.

Mary O’Hare
Mrs. Mary O’Hare, age 83, formerly of Greenville, died Tuesday, March 18, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. She was born October 4, 1919, in Queens, New York City, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Knapp.
Mary has been a Greene County resident since 1950. She was predeceased by her husband John O’Hare in 1993; and a brother Michael Knapp.
Mrs. O’Hare is survived by two daughters, Joan Vriale of Greenville and Barbara Conlon of Greenville; five grandchildren, Larry Vriale of Greenville; Ann Borwegen of Oak Hill; Jeff Dean of Coxsackie; Kelly Conlon and Kate Conlon, both of Greenville; and six great-grandchildren, Lauren, Danielle, Ryan, Nigel, Jocelyn and Olivia.
There were no calling hours. Private cremation was preformed at Park View Cemetery in Schenectady. Spring graveside funeral service in St. Patrick’s Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
