FRANCES A. SALAMAK
Frances A. Salamak, age 66 years, of Alcove Road, Hannacroix, New York, died June 30, 2004, at St. Peter's Hospice, Albany, after a long illness.
She was born in Astoria, New York on March 1, 1938, and was the daughter of the late John and Bessie (Conklin) Salamak.
She was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Bingo player.
She is survived by four brothers, Alfred Hoffman of Hannacroix, John Salamak of Pennsylvania, Richard Salamak of Astoria, and Peter Salamak of Hannacroix; also many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was a member of The Medway Congregational Church, and prior to her retirement was employed by the Eagle Electric Company of L.I. City, New York.
Private cremation services took place Thursday, July 1, at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of W.C. Brady's Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie.

JOHN CARTLEDGE
John Cartledge, 90 years, formerly of East Durham, New York, passed away at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs, New York on July 3, 2004. He was born in Yonkers, New York on March 20, 1914, son of the late John and Mary (Armitt) Cartledge.
John was a retired heavy equipment operator having last worked for Peckham Industries out of Cairo, New York. He was well known for his singing ability, as a young man singing in several local establishments. For a while he was a singing waiter at the Blue Danube in Cairo, New York. He was also a member of the Catskill Valley Historical Society and the Durham Center Museum, Inc. of which he was a former member of the Board of Directors.
John was predeceased by his wife, Carmela (Mainella) Cartledge in 1997.
Surviving are daughter, Nancy Hamner and her husband Daniel of Fairfield, Connecticut; a son, Kenneth Cartledge and his wife Karen of Saratoga Springs, New York; five grandchildren, Tracy DeMarco and her husband Michael, Christine Cartledge, Todd Lepre and his wife Lyn, Jill Silhan and her husband Edward and Dr. Scott Lepre; also two great-granddaughters, Ainsley and Sarah Lepre. He was predeceased by two brothers, George and Robert Cartledge.
Funeral service was Tuesday, from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Greenville, New York. Interment was in the Greenville Cemetery. Those who desire may contribute in his memory to the Durham Center Museum.

RUDOLPH D. SNYDER
Rudolph D. Snyder of Middleburgh, Schoharie County, died Thursday, July 1, 2004 while a patient at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
Born October 15, 1917 in Potter Hollow, New York, he was the son of James Mackey Snyder and Nellie Richmond Snyder. At an early age he and his family moved to Middleburgh, New York where Rudy (as he was known to all) graduated from Middleburgh Central School. He attended R.P.I. prior to enlisting in the Army Air Corp, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant, pilot. After serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II, he and the late Edgar Bush, also of Middleburgh, established Bush & Snyder Lumber Company. Some years later he resumed studies and became a licensed land surveyor, opening an office in Middleburgh in 1959. He was a founding member of the Eastern New York Association of Land Surveyors and also a founding member of the Catskill Area Association of Land Surveyors.
Always active in community service, Rudy was a member of the Middleburgh Fire Department, the American Legion Post No. 248; the Middleburgh Reformed Church, The Schoharie Valley Lodge No. 491 F.& A.M. and served as mayor of the village of Middleburgh in the late 1960s. Rudy was the first Eagle Scout in Troop 2 of Middleburgh and remained committed to the scouting program. He was a past president of the Schoharie County Historical Society, a past president of the Board of Directors of the Schoharie County Community Hospital and served on the Board of Directors of the Middleburgh Telephone Company. An avid collector of antique cars, he was a founding member of the Schoharie Valley Antique Automobile Association and a member of the Classic Car Club of America.
A longtime member of Rotary, with over 40 years of perfect attendance, he was a Paul Harris Fellow, served as District Governor from 1983-84 for District No. 7190 and was committed to Rotary's Youth Exchange Program.
On July 4, 1942, Rudy married the former Janet Schaeffer Bliss, who survives. They were the parents of four children, all of whom survive and live with their spouses in Middleburgh: Joanne Meinsma (James), Margaret Corradino (William), Elizabeth DuPont (Jackie), and James Snyder (Bonnie). Also surviving are their grandchildren: Dama Meinsma Lewis (Drew) of Malvern, Pennsylvania, Jeremy DuPont (Carla), James DuPont, Landon DuPont, Chloe Snyder and Asa Snyder, all of Middleburgh; their great-grandson William Roger Lewis of Malvern, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were held at the Palmer and Shaylor Funeral Home, Middleburgh, on Monday, July 5. A Masonic service was held at 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services were conducted at the Middleburgh Reformed Church on Tuesday morning.
Interment followed at the Middleburgh Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Middleburgh Fire Company or Boy Scouts of America, Troop 2, c/o Dennis Diakuncziak, 406 Ridge Rd., Middleburgh, NY 12122.

ROBERT H. QUACKENBUSH
Robert H. Quackenbush, 58 years, of Freehold, New York, passed away at the Albany Medical Center on July 2, 2004. He was born in Cobleskill, New York on December 29, 1945, son of the late William A. and Grace (Doley) Quackenbush.
He was a foreman for the Town of Greenville Highway Department before ill health forced an early retirement. Bob enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed traveling around the countryside and stopping at the various garage sales.
Surviving are his wife Bonnie (Crandall) Quackenbush; a daughter, Melissa Quackenbush; and grandson, David Gabrielle; also several brothers and sisters, Lillian Holbrook, Adelbert Quackenbush, Lyn Quackenbush, Donald Quackenbush, Bonnie Vandenberg, Virginia Everleth, EllaMae Twoney, EmmaJean Eichler and MaryJo Hynes; also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Paul Quackenbush, and a sister, Wilene Quackenbush.
Memorial service was Friday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville. As to his wishes cremation was at the Albany Rural Cemetery. Those who desire may contribute in his memory to the Greenville Rescue Squad.

NORMAN W. HERRSCHAFT
Norman W. Herrschaft, 90 years, of Westerlo, New York, passed away at the Albany County Nursing Home on June 30, 2004. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 10, 1914, son of the late Robert and Wilhelmina (Ludwig) Herrschaft.
Norman was a longtime employee of the Greenville Norton Hill Lumber Company and a member of the First Baptist Church of Westerlo.
Surviving are his wife Edna (Goettelman) Herrschaft; three children, Wayne Herrschaft, Donna Reichman and Patricia Mauer; four grandchildren, Scott, Michelle, Trevor and Kyle; five great-grandchildren, Gaston, Michelle, Gabriel, Hanna and Trevor, Jr.; also a brother, Robert Herrschaft.
Funeral service was Wednesday from the First Baptist Church of Westerlo. Interment was in the Westerlo Rural Cemetery. Those who desire may contribute in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211 or to the First Baptist Church of Westerlo.

JOHN R. PAIGE, JR.
John R. Paige, Jr., age 40 years, of Kings Road, West Coxsackie, New York, died July 6, 2004 at Albany Medical Center, Albany, New York.
He was born on September 18, 1963 in Wilmington, Delaware, and is the son of John R. and Edith (Goulding) Paige, Sr., of West Coxsackie.
John was co-owner with David T. Hotaling of The Luxury Oil Express in Coxsackie. He graduated from Coxsackie High School in 1981, enjoying playing football while in high school. He was part of the Coxsackie Chamber of Commerce. His hobbies included motorcycle riding and snowmobiling. He was an avid outdoorsman and jack of all trades.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his fiancee, Betty J. Blancato of West Coxsackie; two stepdaughters, Krista and Brittany Blancato of West Coxsackie; two brothers, David M. Paige of Coxsackie and Stephen V. Paige of Earlton; his aunts, Joan (Goulding) and husband Robert Carl of South Cairo, Marilyn (Federico) and husband Joseph Berlin of Coxsackie, Dorothy (Federico) and husband Kenneth Barker of Johannesburg of South Africa, Ruth (Federico) and husband Stephen Urand of Poulsbo, Washington; uncles, Robert Federico of Virginia and Roland and Fran Paige of Wilmington, Delaware; cousins, Elizabeth Federico of Virginia, JoAnne Federico, Jamie Gooley, and Abby Gooley, all of California, Carol and Mike Majewski and Andrew and Pat Haldlin of Wilmington, Delaware.
Funeral services took place on Friday at The Gospel Community Church, 121 Mansion Street, Coxsackie, with Rev. Stanley Slager officiating.
Interment followed in the family plot of the Cairo Cemetery.

DOROTHY M. IMHOFF
Dorothy M. Imhoff, 89, of Blue Mountain Road, Saugerties, died on Wednesday,
July 14, 2004, at Kingston Hospital after a brief illness.
Born July 7, 1915, in Albany County, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Jennie Marshall Lee.
She was employed many years ago at the Ravena Diner and later at the Corner Bakery in Saugerties.
She was a lifetime member of the Saugerties First Congregational Church where she taught Sunday school and played the organ.
She was a member and past president of the Woman's Fellowship of the church, and was active in the Saugerties Area Council of Churches, serving on the committee for the World Day of Prayer and the May Fellowship Day for many years. She was a member of the Cedar Grove/Saxton Fire Companies' Ladies Auxiliary, did volunteer work at the Saugerties Well, and was a member of Saugerties Senior Citizens Club No. 1.
Her husband, the Rev. Frederick J. Imhoff, died in 1992.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy J. Mower and Heidi L. Turk, both of Saugerties, and Sara Ann Wolven of Catskill; three sons, Orville C. Northrup of Lakeland, Florida, John F. of Walden and Mark A. of Saugerties; two sisters, Clara Lockwood and Thelma Palmer, both of Ravena; and 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral procession will form 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., John and Lafayette Streets, and go to the First Congregational Church of Saugerties, Main Street, where the funeral will be at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Karl Ostberg officiating.

ROSE M. LAMMLY
Rose M. Lammly, age 83 years, formerly of Bethany Village, Coxsackie, died Friday, July 16, 2004 at the Teresian House in Albany.
She was born in Coxsackie, January 15, 1921 and was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Nocera) Votta.
Rose was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, a member of the altar rosary society, a charter member of the Columbiettes No. 548, an auxiliary member of Coxsackie Hose No. 3 and a member of the Greene Co. Office of the Aging. She was very active in many volunteer organizations.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Lammly and his wife Alice of Selkirk, Christopher Lammly and his wife Andrea of Milton, Vermont; two daughters, Sharon Costello and her husband Michael of Loudonville, Mary Rose Kelley and her husband Joseph of Dedham, Massachusetts; a brother, Michael and his wife Barbara of Coxsackie; sister, Julia Daoust and her husband Alfred of Coxsackie; a brother-in-law, Patrick Alcuri of Coxsackie; nine grandchildren, Carlene, Michela, Adriana, Michael Costello, Adam and Andrew Lammly, Patrick, Kara and Kathryn Kelley; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wallace; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Lena Alcuri.
Relatives and friends were invited to call at the W.C. Brady's Sons, Inc., Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie on Monday.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday at St. Mary's R.C. Church, Coxsackie with Rev. Fr. John Moyna, pastor, the celebrant. Interment followed in the family plot of the St. Mary's Parish Cemetery, next to her late husband, Erwin K. Lammly, who predeceased her July 24, 1990.

KENNETH WESLEY WOOD, JR.
Kenneth Wesley Wood, Jr. died suddenly at his home on July 16, 2004 at the age of 62. Born in Catskill, New York on April 16, 1942, he lived his entire life in the Coxsackie/Earlton area and attended Coxsackie-Athens Central School.
As a youth Ken loved exploring and fishing in the Hudson River with his father or pals. Ken worked as a lineman for Runckle Utility; owned and operated "Ye Olde Auto Shoppe" at the bottom of Mansion Street Hill, then a foreman 30 years for Conrail (now CSX). He was anticipating retirement early next year.
Kenny is survived by his sons Heath Wesley Wood, Chris Alan Wood of Florida and Craig J. Quintana (stepson), Ravena; brother, Jeffrey Wood and family of Athens and cousins. He has four grandchildren, Heather Leigh Wood and Tyler Wesley Wood of Coeymans Hollow and Jasmine and Kira Quintana of Greenville and Coxsackie respectively; and former wife, Lillian Quintana Wood.
For someone who jokingly said he didn't like to get too far out of Greene County, Kenny touched many people's lives during his lifetime. He was a teacher, mentor and father confessor of sorts to his many friends – always there to give of his time and talents. But mostly, he was the best friend anyone could every want. Your untimely death has left a big hole in our lives and hearts, Kenny Wood.
Calling hours were 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 21 at the W.C. Brady's Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie. A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 22 at the funeral home and interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery, Coxsackie. Family and friends are invited to a gathering and refreshments at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Mansion Street, Coxsackie immediately following interment.

SANDRA R. KAZSEK
Sandra R. Kazsek, age 56 years, of 274 Scheller Park Road, West Coxsackie, New York, died July 14, 2004, at her residence after a four year illness.
She was born in Kingston, New York, August 6, 1947, and was the daughter of the late William R. and Leona (Hunt) Reilly, Sr.
Sandra and her husband owned and operated Steve's Meat Market on Route 32, Greenville, and recently opened a new location on Route 9W, Athens, across from the Athens Generating Plant.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Saugerties. She married her husband Steve, August 6, 1957, on her 20th birthday.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Steve Kazsek of West Coxsackie; three sisters, Maryann Every and Elizabeth Dahl, both of Kingston, and a sister, Marjorie Caruso of Jupiter, Florida. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Private cremation took place July 15 at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.
Relatives and friends were cordially invited to attend a memorial service in her memory on Wednesday, July 21, at 10 a.m. at the W.C. Brady's Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie, with Rev. Diane Smith, Pastor of the Dutch Reformed Church of Prattsville officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.

LEONARD A. GARDINER
Leonard A. Gardiner, 87 years, of Norton Hill, New York, passed away at the Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill, New York on July 19, 2004. He was born in Greenville Center, New York on August 17, 1916, son of the late Leonard and Helen (Story) Gardiner.
He served with the 353rd Bomb Squadron in the Mediterranean Theater, the Rhineland, PO Valley and the Northern Apennines. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and an Air Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters.
Very active in the community Len served the Town of Greenville as highway superintendent from 1948 to 1951, was also a town justice for 14 years. He was also a well regarded sawyer, lumberman, and worked at GNH Lumber, Inc. and he also had a small insurance business and was very proud of his L.B.J. Plumbing & Electrical Business, located in Norton Hill.
He was also a former school bus driver and a member of the Greenville American Legion Post No. 291, the Tri-Town Memorial Post VFW No. 7229, a life member of the Greenville Vol. Fire Co., a member of the Greenville-Norton Hill U.M.C., the Greene County Historical Society and the Greenville Historical Society, and was a past member of the Greenville Rotary Club and the Knights of Pythias.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Claribel (Ingalls) Gardiner; a sister, Viola Becker and his very special nephew James Adams. Surviving are his loving nieces, nephews, and his many friends.
A memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday 11 a.m. at the Greenville-Norton Hill U.M. Church in Norton Hill. Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery. Those who desire may contribute in his memory to the Greenville Rescue Squad or to the Greenville Library.

FERDINAND A. DEUBERT
Ferdinand (Fred) A. Deubert, 89, of Athens, New York, died Friday, July 16, 2004. Born in Heilbronn, Germany on November 16, 1914 to Ferdinand and Lina (Wertheim) Deubert, he came to the United States in 1927 with his parents and siblings.
Ferdinand attended school in Kingston, New York, before moving to Coxsackie. He served in the Merchant Marine in the Pacific during World War II. He earned his license as a diesel engineer and worked for many years as chief engineer on the tugboat, Samson, for Standard Oil. After leaving Standard Oil he worked as a stationary engineer for New York State at Coxsackie Correctional until his retirement. He was a licensed ham radio operator and member of the Rip Van Winkle Amateur Radio Society.
Ferdinand was predeceased by his brother, Helmut and sister-in-law Hazel Deubert and nephew Wayne Morgan. He is survived by his sister Irene (Ted) Morgan of Florida; nephews Roy Morgan of Florida and Michael (Linda) Deubert of Coxsackie; and great-nephews Mark and Brian Deubert. He is also survived by his dear friends John and Debra Mumby of Catskill, New York.
Friends called at The Sopris Funeral Home, Inc., 11877 Route 9W, Coxsackie on Sunday, July 18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A memorial service followed. Memorial contributions may be made to the Greene County Department of the Aging, 411 Main St., Catskill, NY 12414.

Eva Blair Lord, 100 years, of Westerlo, New York, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, New York.
Eva, known fondly to many generations in the Westerlo community as "Aunt Eva," was born in Danvers, Massachusetts on May 23, 1904. She was the daughter of the late Napoleon and Hegwidge (Goodreau) Blair, formerly of Quebec, Canada.
Eva was a loving sister growing up in a large family and spent her childhood helping to care for her five other siblings in Cohoes, New York. After some time, the family relocated to Westerlo, New York, where their father began to operate a dairy farm. It was there she met and married the late Archie Reynolds Lord.
In 1945, Aunt Eva began her career as a cook at the old Westerlo Grade School. It was then she was asked to help for a mere two weeks, which turned into a 27 year culinary adventure. Being both creative and deeply caring to all of the schoolchildren, Aunt Eva produced meals which were both nutritious and fun. Children looked forward to tray decorations, holiday food shapes and special desserts that routinely transformed dull into delicious.
Eva was a member of the Westerlo Reformed Church, Ladies Aid Society, the Westerlo Historical Society, the New York State School Food Service Association and the Hilltowns Senior Citizens.
She is survived by one son, Howard F. Lord of Hannacroix, New York; two grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 31, at 1 p.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, NY 12083. Interment will be in the Westerlo Rural Cemetery. A reception will be held immediately following at the Westerlo Dutch Reformed Church.

ANNA M. BERRY O'TOOLE
Anna M. Berry O'Toole, 90 of Green Acres, Florida, died Monday, July 19, 2004 at the Sutton Place Nursing Home in Florida. She was born June 20, 1914 in Youngstown, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late John and Mae Gersak.
She attended Gloversville Schools and was employed as a switchboard operator by St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
Survivors include her two daughters, Jeanette and her husband Paul of West Coxsackie, New York, Eleanor Eisler of Richmond, Virginia; and her three grandchildren, John A. Eisler of Fort Collins, Colorado, Michelle Eisler of Leesburg, Virginia; and David Eisler of Selden, New York. Her companion of 12 years, Paul Fedina of Green Acres, Florida, also survives her. She was predeceased by her daughter, Carol Thorburn.
Friends called Friday, July 23 at the Northville Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 12 noon Friday, July 23 at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Northville. Burial was held in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

MAXINE OHLE
Maxine Ohle, 67 years, of East Durham, New York, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2004 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, New York. Maxine was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on May 12, 1937, daughter of the late Max and Anna (Buchner) Wimmer.
Maxine and her late husband Otto owned and operated the O'Neill House in East Durham, New York, a family operated business for over 50 years. She was a member of the Greene County Resort Association, the Senior Companion of Greene Co. Community Action and Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Knock Shrine Council, Ladies Auxiliary.
Maxine will be remembered by her family as a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband, Otto Ohle and a son, Stephen Ohle.
Surviving are two daughters, Theresa Boncales and her husband Jack of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey and Mary McGahan and her husband Thomas of East Durham, New York; a son, Timothy Ohle and his wife Florence, also of East Durham, New York; seven grandchildren, Jack, Victoria, Brooke, Stephen, Beverly, Max and Thomas. Late in life Maxine was reunited with siblings she did not know she had. Also surviving are her sisters, Carol Linton, Joyce Rey, Barbara Stroud, Peg Seifert and a brother, John Houston.
Funeral service will be from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, New York 12083 at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham, New York. Friends called at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Catskill, New York.
Those who wish may contribute in Maxine's memory to Our Lady of Knock Shrine.
