Sad accident.-A blacksmith of the name of German, living
in Westkill, was killed, one day last week by the kick of an ox while he
was engaged in shoeing him. The ox broke the rope by which he was tied, and
gave him a blow in the abdomen from which- after lingering about two days-he
died. He leaves a wife and nine children to mourn his loss.
MY NOTES:
This is Zachariah Germond/German born abt.1815. He came
from Dutchess Co., NY with wife Helen Sleight born abt.1819. The 9 children
were: Mary, George (my 3rd gr-grandfather), Smith, Charlotte, Orphene, Zack
John, Bigelow, William (Willie), Arthur, and Louisa. I believe Louisa died
young.

Death of William German
Mr. William German passed away very suddenly last Thursday afternoon, aged 75
years. He was in Prattsville in the forenoon and was apparently in usual
health. Soon after reaching home he lay down and a few moments passed away.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Brown & Shaver
mortician parlor in Prattsville, Rev. W.L. Comstock rendered "Nearer My God
to Thee" as a solo.
A large circle of relatives and friends were present, bringing several floral
pieces. Mr. German is survived by his widow, one sister, Mrs. Ada Griffin,
Kingston, a brother Henry, West Durham, and four children Mrs. Burr Decker,
Blenhiem, Clarence German, Cooksburg, Velmore German, West Conesville, and
Arthur, who is employed by Ward Kurau of North Settlement. The interment took
place in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. The bearers were Ernest Case, Thomas
Decker, Elwood Brandow, Lynn Austin, Alvin Waterman and Roger Sweet.

Eunice L. German
Greenville.- Mrs. Eunice L. German of Cooksburg, wife of the late William
German, died in Catskill, Sunday, Sept. 4th. Mrs. German was born in the Town of
Ashland, Greene County, Oct. 27,1871.
Funeral services under the direction of the A.J. Cunningham Funeral
Homes, was held from the home of her son, Clarence German, Cooksburg, NY on
Wednesday at 1 P.M. with Rev. Homer Morris officiating and interment in the
Pleasent Valley cemetery, Ashland
Surviving are two sons, Clarence of Cooksburg, and Velmore of Gilboa RFD; one
sister Mrs. Julia Coon of Cooksburg, and one brother Adelbert Beach of
Hensonville, also 14 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren.

This is my 2nd gr-grandmother. Daughter of Owen Beach
and Josephine Bronson.
May 1944 dated newspaper clipping
Arthur German of North Settlement passed away at the
Memorial Hospital of Greene County in Catskill on May 8 at the age of 56
years. Mr. German had been employed by Ward Kurau for about twenty-five years.
Funeral services were held at Shaver's Funeral Home in Prattsville on Friday
afternoon. Rev. George F. Wells officiated. Burial was in the Pleasant Valley
Cemetery.

The four months old child of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
German of Sutton Hollow, died last Friday from the effects of whooping cough
and pneumonia. Their two year old child is now quite ill with pneumonia which
developed from whooping cough.

The funeral of Clarence Hoagland, four year old son of
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hoagland, who was run down by an auto and was so badly
injured that he died a few hours later on Sunday, November 18, was held in the
Methodist Episcopal Church on Wednesday. Rev. R. Thorn conducted the service.
The bearers were Gordon Myers, Seeley Cook, Melvin Barlow and Lynn Austin,Jr.
all small boys.

The thirteen-month-old baby of Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Hoagland, who are employed at Briarcliffe Lodge, Margaretville, was drowned in
a pail of water at the home of the parents, June 19.
MY NOTES:
Same as the persons listed above. I don't have a name for
this child. There were 2 other boys for this marriage Charles Alfred and Robert
Edward Hoagland which I have nothing on but birthdates. Edward and Ada split
or Edward dies and she marries to Burr Decker .Burr marries after Ada dies and
resides in Prattsville with their daughter Katherine. Katherine is in the WACS
in New Jersey per newspaper clipping.

OWEN BEACH, a veteran of Civil War,
died in Jewett, Wednesday morning, aged 84 years. During the war he was in the
same regiment and company as the late Mark Spencer Van Loan, of this village.
Mr. Beach enjoyed a large circle of acquaintances throughout the county and
was a man highly respected and admired by those who knew him. He was a brother
of Mrs. Walton Van Loan, Prospect avenue, and a cousin of George Beach of the
Catskill Mountain House. He is also survived by another sister, Mrs. Sarah
Undergraff of Alpenea, Michigan; and one brother Harlow of Pasedena,
Californina. Funeral services will be held from his late home, this morning at
11 o'clock.
