Deaths in the Town of Windham 
1847, 1849, 1850

An 1847 law required the school districts in each town of New York State to collect vital statistics. They ceased doing so after a few years, probably due to poor compliance. Windham's book is in the custody of the Windham Town Clerk, PO Box 96, Hensonville, NY 12439. Inexplicably no such records were made in Windham in 1848, perhaps due to the fact that the town of Ashland (formerly known as Scienceville) was created that year from parts of Windham and Prattsville.

The following information was provided for each individual: name, date and cause of death, age, sex, residence, occupation, and condition in life (married or unmarried). Note that the word "unmarried" was used for people who were either single or widowed. Spellings have been left as written.
