David Halsted

David Hallsted

1765 - 1846

I, David Hallsted of the town of Coxsackie, County of Greene, and State of New York, being in good health and of a sound mind and memory do make and ordain this following and no other, to be my last will and testament.

Firstly, I nominate and appoint my sons John and Smith Halsted with my nephew, David Powell of the town of New Baltimore, county and state aforesaid, my executors to carry this my will into effect.

Secondly, I order all my just debts & funeral charges to be paid. I give to my beloved wife Sarah the use of as much of the income of my estate as she may need during her natural life for her comfortable support.

Next, I give to my son Joseph Hallsted and to his heirs that part of the Jacob Powell lot as the fence now runs. I give to my son David Hallsted five hundred dollars. I give to my daughter Mary Richmond and to her heirs the sum of three hundred dollars.

I give to my daughter Patience Hallsted and to her heirs the fifty acres of land in Constantia, Oswego County, and state of N. York, which she and her family now live on with one hundred dollars ( added note - Patience was married to Epenetus Hallock) and further I give to my daughter Zilpha Hallsted seven hundred dollars to her and her heirs.

Next I give all the rest of my real estate to my two sons John and Smith Hallsted and to their heirs and assigns when they have paid the aforesaid legacies to my children.

After the death of my wife and at their decease I give all the household furniture to my three daughters Mary Richmond, and Patience Halleck each one quarter and to Zilpha Hallsted the other half.

Witness my hand and seal this twenty fifth day of second month in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven. Signed sealed and declared by the state to be his last will and testament in presence of us, John Powell, Rebech Powell (added note, wife of John Powell), David Powell, all of the town of New Baltimore, county of Greene and state of New York.
