COXSACKIE---Clyde F. Flansburg, 90, formerly of Coxsackie, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2004 at the Barnwell Health Facility in Valatie after a short illness.
Born in Medway Jan. 20, 1914, he was the son of the late Oliver H. and Pearl C. (Friend) Flansburg.
Mr. Flansburg was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and past Warden of the Vestry. Prior to his retirement he worked at the American Valve Corp. In his youth he served as Purser aboard the Chauncey M. Depew with the Hudson River Dayline.
Survivors include one son, Gerald Flansburg and his wife Donna of Kinderhook; a daughter, Joyce Verdaasdonk and her husband the Rev. Henry Verdaasdonk of Coxsackie; six grandchildren, Sherry Rose of Albany, Wayne Verdaasdonk of Hampton, Va., Joseph Verdaasdonk of Corfu, Karen Ressler of Kinderhook, Kathleen Flansburg of Warwick, Kevin Flansburg of Boston; and six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Danetta (Lennon) Flansburg.
Calling hours are Thursday, 4 to 8 p.m. at the W.C.

Funeral services will take place Friday, 10:30 a.m. from
Christ Episcopal Church, Mansion St., Coxsackie. The Rev. Fr. Michael Gorchov, Rector of St. Luke’s

Interment will follow in the family plot of the Riverside Cemetery, Coxsackie.

LAKELAND, Fla.---Philip M. Salvino Sr. died Aug. 30, 2004, peacefully surrounded by his family.
He was born May 6, 1925 in Athens, the son of the late Eugene and Rose Salvino. He is formally of Glenville.
Mr. Salvino worked at General Electric until his retirement.
He was also a bus driver for the Niskayuna School District. He was a past member of the Alplaus Fire Department, the Woodlin Club and past president of the Walhalla Country Club. Mr. Salvino played a mean game of golf.
He is the beloved husband of Ruth (Plankenhorn) Salvino and who would have been married 60 years this September and had planned to renew their wedding vows.
Survivors include his children Sharon (Joseph) Carfora, Dawn, Natole, Philip M. (Mary) Salvino Jr. He was the grandfather of Joseph Carfora, Kelly Keunke, Christopher Natole, Rene’ Natole, and Amy Salvino, great-grandfather of Arianna and Nicole Carafora and Bradenn Keunke. He was the brother of Jean Widdis, Albert Salvino, Pauline Palmatter, Mary Reischer, Ann Hlina, Carmella Tapen, and Eugene Salvino Jr. He is also survived by many sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mr. Salvino was predeceased by his dearly loved grandson Nicholas Philip Salvino and his dear sister Madeline Warrington.
Memorial service to be announced at the convenience of the family.

JEWETT---Robert Clifford Thompson, or “Rocky” to his family and friends, died at the stroke of midnight Saturday, Aug. 28. He was surrounded by the loving embrace of his loving wife and soul mate of 37 years Pamela, and his children Clifton, Rebecca and Jennifer.
He was born March 31, 1948 in Catskill.
He was a plumber by trade. His passions included the ponies, casinos, country music and travel. He was an avid sportsman and looked forward to hunting season every year. Most of all he enjoyed the precious time spent with his grandchildren Justin, Breanna, Lauren, C.J., Marissa, Taylor and Brandon.
He is also survived by his father, Clifford Hall Thompson of Jewett; sisters, Barbara Andrus of Niskayuna, Elizabeth Holdridge of Florida, Jeanne Soule of Jewett, and Peggy Rappelyea of Lexington.
He was predeceased by his mother Agnes Brinkman Thompson and his brother Clifton Thompson.
Memorial services will be held Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, 10 a.m. at the Jewett Presbyterian Church, county Route 17.

EDWIN G. GROSSMANN

MALTA---Edwin G. Grossmann, 78, of Malta, formerly of Catskill and South Cairo, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004 at St. Peter’s Hospital.
Born Aug. 30, 1926 in Binghamton, he was the son of the late Alex and Fanne Plusch Grossman.
A graduate of Catskill high School in 1942, Drew University in 1946, he served a year in the Army and then worked 42 years with Grossmann Insurance. He was past president of the Albany and Hudson Valley Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter Chapters, a Chartered Financial Consultant and a stock broker. He loved jazz and Dixieland music and will be remembered for his sense of humor and intelligence. Mr. Grossmann volunteered his time to many organizations including the Catskill Boys Club which was founded by his father, Catskill Rotary Club, Greene County Historical Society, Catskill Little League, Toastmaster’s Club, Greene County Economic Development Agency, Memorial Hospital Endowment Corp. and many others. He chaired the 1977 Government Operations Committee which led to the form of county government.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Catskill; daughters, Sue Chalmers of Connecticut and Julie Schumacher of Burnt Hills, NY; sister, Judith Hofbauer of Florida; five granddaughters, Ericka, Lindsay and Elizabeth Schumacher and Bonnie and Amy Chalmers along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at Millspaugh Camerato Funeral home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.
Contributions may be made to the Greene County Historical Society.

CAIRO---Arbreta Phelps, 94, of Cairo, died Aug. 31, 2004 at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill.
She was born in Maplecrest on June 18, 1910, the daughter of the late Charles and Inez (DeLong) Phelps.
She was a retired LPN having worked for several years in the White Plains area hospitals.
She was a member of the Maplecrest Methodist Church, and DAR and the Greene County Humane Society.
Survivors include cousins Earl (Ozzie) Ostrander of Kingston, Alvena Hitchcock of East Jewett and Douglas DeLong of East Jewett.
Calling hours will be 6 to 7 p.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Freehold Cemetery.

CATSKILL---Elizabeth Ann Delanoy, 75, of 17 Bartow Street, Catskill, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, with her family at her side.
She was born May 17, 1929 in Auburn, N.Y., the daughter of the late Charles Bunnell Kreitner and Antoinette (Rickert) Kreitner.
Mrs. Delanoy was a graduate of St. Patrick’s Academy in Catskill. She was a former employee of New York Telephone Company in Catskill.
She enjoyed gardening, reading, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include four daughters, Cathy Delanoy of Catskill; Darlene Kubler and husband Robert of South Cairo; Valerie Bunce and husband Gregory, both of Scott Air Force Base, Illinois; Tammi McGrath and husband, Michael, both of South Cairo; a sister-in-law, Margaret Kreitner of Catskill; 10 grandchildren, Robert V. Delanoy Jr., Kyle R. Kubler, Jeremy R. Kubler, Brittany N. Kubler, Brett K. Kubler, Tyler K. Kubler, Kristen E. Bunce, Kari Ann Bunce, Michael R. McGrath, Zachary T. McGrath; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mrs. Delanoy was predeceased by her husband, Robert L. Delanoy in 1968; a son, Robert V. Delanoy Sr. in 2001; and four siblings, George W. Kreitner, Donald Kreitner, James H. Kreitner, and Barbara Kellogg.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. The Rev. John J. Murphy, pastor of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church of Catskill will be officiating.

CATSKILL---William T. Hall, 58, of 41 Paul Horn Road, Catskill, died Aug. 24, 2004.
He was born in Brooklyn on April 24, 1946 and was the son of the Edward and Catherine (Phelan) Hall.
Mr. Hall moved from Binghamton, where he was a welder, to Catskill over 20 years ago.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include a son, William Hall Jr. of Endicott, N.Y., a daughter, Michelle Gardner of Palenville, a brother, Edward Hall of Michigan City, Ind., and cousin Robert J. Dunn of Catskill.
Graveside services will take place 10 a.m. Tuesday at the family plot of the Palenville Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Bonaventa, pastor of the Sacred Heart Church of Palenville, officiating.
Private cremation took place Aug. 30 at the Albany Rural Crematory in Menands.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Richards Funeral Home, 383 Bross St., Cairo.

Loving mother and wife
Naomi Bogardus, 89, of Kings Road, Coxsackie, died peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospice Thursday afternoon, Sept. 2, 2004 with her daughter Shirley at her side, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born Aug. 13, 1915 in Ravena, she was the daughter of the late Delanso and Cora (VanLeuven) Rowe and the widow of Kenneth Bogardus, who predeceased her in 1998.
She resided in Coxsackie for 70 years. She was proud of her family and enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, and playing the organ.
She is survived by her devoted daughter Shirley and son-in-law Robert Lazar of Delmar; grandchildren Karen Travis and husband James of Delmar, Lynne Goodridge and husband Charles of Saratoga Springs, and Gwenn Lazar of Albany/ great-grandchildren Brooke and Grant Travis and Gracelyn and Owen Goodridge/ and nephew Thomas Tracey and wife Patricia.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Vera Mae Tracey and Mildred Faber, and a brother, Harold Rowe.
Friends and relatives are cordially invited to call at the W.C. Brady’s Sons, Inc., Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie, on Sunday, Sept. 5, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 6 at the funeral home.

DOVER, N.J.---Charles M. Smigen, Sr., 84, died after a brief illness at Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover, N.J., on Friday, Sept. 3, 2004.
Born to Joseph and Frances Smigen, in Coxsackie, he has lived in Fair Lawn, N.J. for 54 years.
Mr. Smigen worked as a supervisor for New Jersey Bell in Midland Park, N.J. for 42 years before retiring in 1983. He also served with the United States Army during WWII.
Mr. Smigen was predeceased by his wife, Elinor Smigen, in 1992 and a grand-daughter, Melissa Elinor Smigen, in 1993.
He is survived by daughter Frances Ranton, of West Milford, NJ; son Charles M. Smigen, Jr. of Barry Lakes, NJ; brother George Smigen, of Rockville, MD; sister Margaret Wallerius, of Sussex, NJ, and five grandchildren.

WEST CAMP---Herman Rosen, 85, of West Camp died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004 at home.
Born in New York City on Sept. 16, 1918, he was the son of Moses and Leah Rubenstein Rosen.
Herman was a retired bus driver for the Bronx Manhattan Surface Transit Authority in New York City. He was a WWII veteran, having served in the European Theater where he received a Bronze Star. He was a longtime area resident.
Survivors include his wire, Mary Rosen of West Camp; four sons; Lawrence Rosen and his wife Phyllis of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Clifford Rosen and his wife Ruth of Livingston, Texas, Jerald Rosen and his wife Elayne of Montgomery, New York and Alan Rosen and his wife Ellen of Milton, New York; four daughters: Marilyn Greenebaum and her husband Robert of Lutz, Florida; Roberta Nahoum and her husband Albert of Coram, New York; Beverly Katowitz and her husband Mitchel of Charlotte, North Carolina and Deborah Stein and her husband Fred of Catskill; one sister, Renne Fishman of Florida; 8 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Edna Rosen; a grandson, Scott Katowitz; and a son-in-law, William Brown, Jr.

WINDHAM---John Trovato, 86, of Windham died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004 at his residence in Windham.
Born on My 28, 1918 in Brooklyn, he was the son of Sebastian and Anna Trovato.
He was predeceased on July 2, 1998 by Rose, his wife of 53 years.
Survivors include a brother, William; two nephews, Albert Carlovich and William Trovato; and three nieces, Lenore Radelich and Roseann and Diane Trovato.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, Sept. 6 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Windham.

HUDSON---Harold J. Blanchard, 83, of 50 Kipps Lane, Hudson, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2004, at Barnwell Nursing Home, Valatie.
Born in Peabody, Mass. June 9, 1921, he was the son of the late Henry and Margaret (McDonald) Blanchard.
During his years of employment he was a custodian of the Hudson City School District for 17 years and also served as captain of the Hudson City Fire Police for more than 25 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John and (Elizabeth) Alger of Hudson/ two sisters, Evelyn Flood of Florida, and Ruth Durand of Massachusetts; two grandchildren, John and Steven Alger of Hudson; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Besides his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Edward Blanchard; two sisters, Margaret Blanchard and Betty Eigenbrodt; and a grandson, Harold J. Alger.
Calling hours are Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Valenti and Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport.
Funeral services will take place Thursday, 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Deacon Peter Trawinski will officiate.

NEW BALTIMORE---Barbara Elaine Weeks, 53, New Baltimore Town Clerk, died unexpectedly at Albany Medical Center Hospital Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004.
Born Aug. 10, 1951 in East Rockaway, Long Island, she is the daughter of Elaine Wood of Albany and the late Martin C. Smith.
Mrs. Weeks was a graduate of SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Oneonta with a degree in Culinary Arts. She was married Oct. 19, 1974 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church to Kenneth Weeks, who survives at home. She was first elected town clerk in 1988 for the Town of New Baltimore and was a member of the New York State Town Clerks Association and Treasurer of the Columbia-Greene Town Clerks Association. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Albany. She enjoyed crafts, especially Christmas arts and crafts and needlepoint. She made the wreath that is at the entrance of the New Baltimore Town Hall.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her son, Cpl. Matthew B. Weeks, USMC of New Baltimore; a brother, Raymond W. Smith of Altamont; and her nieces and nephews, Gordon Smith, Harry and Barry Braker, Jonathan, James and Joseph Caparaso, Susan, Michael and James Weeks.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours today 6 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sopris Funeral Home Inc., 11877 Route 9W, Coxsackie.
Funeral services will be conducted 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

CATSKILL---Edwin Palmer, 79, of Catskill, died Tuesday, Sept. 7 at Columbia-Greene Long Term Care where he had been a patient since June 26, 2003.
Mr. Palmer was born in Catskill on April 15, 1925 to the late Harold and Edith Tiffany Palmer.
He served with the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952.
Mr. Palmer was employed as a construction worker in Niagara Falls prior to his retirement.
Survivors include two brothers: Francis Palmer of Niagara Falls and Harold Palmer of Catskill; sister, Hope Kelly of Selkirk; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Palmer was predeceased by his brother, Virgil Palmer, sister, Marion Schraad, and nephew, Donald Truesdell, with whom he resided prior to becoming a patient at Long Term Care.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday in the Remembrance Chapel of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, with Rev. Phyllis Skidmore, Pastor of the High Hill Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will follow in the Town of Catskill Cemetery.

RAVENA---Marion J. (Frey) Waldron, 73, of 1311 Acquetuck Road, Ravena, Town of New Baltimore, died Sept. 6, 2004 after a long illness.
She was born in Hudson Falls, June 18, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Glenwood and Lena (Gerioux) Martin.
Mrs. Waldron has been an area resident for over 40 years, she loved to sing, play guitar, grow flowers, and she dearly loved her family and friends.
Survivors include her two daughters Dorothy Shaffer of New Baltimore, Jacklyn Matter of Earlton, a son, Roger Frey of Alden, N.Y., three sisters, Elizabeth Ferriere of Flagler Beach, Fla., Nancy Boomhower of New Baltimore, Marylou Firstuin of Earlton, also survived by seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers June and Robert Martin and a sister Martha Martin.
Calling hours will be conducted Saturday 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the W.C. Brady’s Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie, with a 12:30 p.m. funeral service.
Burial of her remains will take place at a later date next to her late husband Willard Waldron who predeceased her in 1986, in the family plot of St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery in Coxsackie.

CAIRO---Margaret S. (Peggy) Engelmann, 77, formerly of Snyder Lane, Cairo, died Sept. 8, 2004 at the Eden Park Health Facility, Catskill, where she had been a patient since Feb. 10, 1997.
She was born in Sunside, N.Y., Oct. 22, 1956, and was the daughter of the late Edgar and Sara (Moore) Snyder.
She had been a lifetime area resident and was a member of the Cairo United Methodist Church. She loved snowmobiling in the winter and beachcombing in Florida.
Survivors include her husband Walter Engelmann of Cairo, a son, Jeffrey Engelmann and his wife Carola of South Cairo, three daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Karin) Colangelo of Purling, Pamela Yost of Kingston, and Wendy Overbaugh of Colorado, also surviving are seven grandchildren Christie, Carra, Carly, Caytie, Michael, Casie and Ashley and one great-grandchild Tristan.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Richards Funeral Home, Bross St., Cairo.

CAIRO---Lloyd V. Foster, 78, of Route 32, South Cairo, died Sept. 7, 2004, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, after a long illness.
He was born in New York City, Aug. 27, 1926, and was the son of the late Mr. And Mrs. Foster.
Mr. Foster had been a resident of Cairo for the past 30 years. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Cairo School District.
Survivors include a son, Carl Foster of Cairo; four daughters, Patsy, Debbie, Judith, and Bonnie Foster, also surviving are two brothers, Kevin Foster of Hudson, Ivan Foster of Johnstown, a sister Yvonne Foster and several grandchildren.
Calling hours will be take place 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Richards Funeral Home, Bross St., Cairo.
Funeral service will take place at the funeral home Monday evening, time to be announced.

HAINES FALLS---Dorothy France Feml, a lifelong resident of Haines Falls, died
Sept. 9, 2004 at the Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill.
She was a homemaker and loved yard sales and activities.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Feml Sr. in 1958, her son Joseph Feml Jr. in 1984 and her sister, Margaret Haines.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Bruce Feml of Haines Falls and Brian and Barry Feml of Cairo; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Feml of Cairo and five great grandchildren.
Friends and relatives may call at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home on Monday, Sept. 13, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. at the Kaaterskill United Methodist Church in Haines Falls with the Rev. Karen Monk officiating. Interment will follow in the Haines Falls Cemetery.

ATHENS---Katherine Sapone, 66, of Route 9W Athens died suddenly Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004 at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Born June 25, 1938 in Catskill, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Knegel) Konsul.
Katherine attended St. Patrick’s Academy in Catskill. She was a homemaker who loved cooking and gardening.
She was predeceased by six siblings, Martin Konsul, Francis Konsul, Celi Durlack, Helen Nunziato, Chris Konsul and Lena Riley.
Mrs. Sapone is survived by her husband, Frank T. Sapone of Athens; two sons, Frank J. Sapone and companion Heidi J. Iten, both of Coxsackie, and Anthony J. Sapone and his wife Louella, both of Savannah, Georgia; a daughter, Catherine Lang and husband Frank, both of Catskill; two brothers, John Konsul and his wife Carol of Athens and Anthony Konsul and his wife Blanche of Hannacroix; three sisters, Ann Brennan and husband James, Marie Sapone and Stella Decker, all of Catskill; three grandchildren, Frank, Cassandra and Rachel Lang, all of Catskill; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill on Monday, Sept. 13 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday, Sept. 14 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, Bridge Street, Catskill. Fr. John J. Murphy, Pastor, will officiate.

PUTNAM STATION---Sharon Ann Weiss, 47, of Pulpit Point Road, died Saturday, Sept. 11 at her residence.
She was born Oct. 9, 1956 in Catskill, daughter of the late James and Irma (King) Weiss.
She had been a resident of Putman Station for many years. She was previously employed by the New York State Department of Corrections as a purchasing agent. Most recently she was employed by the Ticonderoga Elementary School as a school librarian, a job she enjoyed to the fullest.
She cherished time with her family. Her hobbies included watching wildlife, canoeing, hiking and she very much enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include her daughter, Abby Weiss of Putnam Station; her companion Richard Beebe of Putnam Station; four brothers, James Weiss of Madera, Calif., George Weiss of Round Top, Clifford Weiss of Catskill and Allan Weiss of Purling; two sisters, Lynn Dittmar of Round Top and Kay Policastro of Parsippany, N.J.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one sister, Gail McIntosh.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga.
A service will take place 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Floyd Freed will officiate.
Interment will follow in the family plot of the Valley View Cemetery of Ticonderoga.

COXSACKIE---Juanita F. (Ginger) Van Slyke, 82, of 14 Martins Trailer Park, Coxsackie, died Sept. 10, 2004 at her residence.
She was born June 14, 1922 in Syracuse and was the daughter of the late Royal and Mary (Heath) Deerfoot.
She has been an area resident of Coxsackie for over 25 years. She loved to do crossword puzzles, and to play games. She loved children and loved to help other people.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed be the Yates Hotel of Syracuse and she also owned and operated a roofing company for many years.
Survivors include her three daughters, Delores A. Nelson of Ca., Linda Anthony of Selkirk, N.Y. Rachelle (Shelly) Tanner of Ariz., also survived by eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by a son Ralph Stamford Jr., and also a beloved companion Rusty Thurber who predeceased her three years ago.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the W.C. Brady’s Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie.
A memorial service will take place with the time to be announced.
Private cremation took place on Tuesday at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.

MALTA---Edwin G. Grossman, 78, of Malta, formerly of Catskill and South Cairo, died Aug. 31, at St. Peter’s Hospital.
He was born Aug. 30, 1926 in Binghamton, the son of the late Alex and Fanne Plusch Grossman.
Mr. Grossman graduated from Catskill high School in 1942, Drew University in 1946, served a year in the Army and then worked 42 years with Grossman Insurance.
He was a past president of the Albany and Hudson Valley Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter Chapters, a Chartered Financial consultant and a stock broker.
He loved jazz and Dixieland music and will be remembered for his sense of humor and intelligence.
Mr. Grossman volunteered his time to many organizations including Catskill Boys Club, which was founded by his father, Catskill Rotary Club, Greene County Historical Society, Catskill Little League, Toastmaster’s Club, Greene County Economic Development Agency, Memorial Hospital Endowment Corp. and many others.
He also chaired the 1977 Government Operations Committee which led to the formation of county government.
Survivors include his wife Mary of Catskill; daughters, Sue Chalmers of Conn., and Julie Schumacher of Burnt Hills; sister, Judith Hofbauer of Florida, five granddaughters Erika Lindsay and Elizabeth Schumacher and Bonnie and Amy Chalmers along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the memorial service which will be conducted by the Rev. Vicky Eastland, pastor of the First Reformed Church in Catskill.
Interment of the remains will follow in the Town of Catskill Cemetery.

WEST COXSACKIE---Henrietta Matera, 82, of West Coxsackie, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004 at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill.
She was born Dec. 24, 1921 in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late Henry and Mamie (Miller) Bethon.
Mrs. Matera was an employee of the New York City Department of Education at School P.S. 145 in Brooklyn prior to her retirement.
Survivors include three sons, James Matera of West Coxsackie, Edward Matera of Catskill; and John Matera of Tafton, Pa., six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Matera was predeceased by her husband Anthony J. Matera on Oct. 16, 1999.

She was the beloved wife of the late Earnest Piazza.

She was the devoted mother of Paulette of Denver, Colo., Ronald of Richmond, Mass., Joseph of Garden City, Ernest Jr., of East Poestenkill, N.Y., Stephen of Chatham, N.Y., Christopher of Albertson, L.I., Victoria Roche of Yorktown Heights, and the late Thomas who died in his 5th year in 1964. She was also survived by 18 grandchildren.

ATHENS---Elizabeth V. (Foster) Arena, 43, of Athens died Sept. 17, 2004 at the Albany Medical Center.
Born in Port Jefferson, Long Island, N.Y. on Nov. 3, 1960, she was the daughter of Pietrina (Valverde) Foster of Selden, L.I., N.Y. and the late Kenneth C. Foster.
She was employed by Home Sweet Home of Athens as a nurse’s aide, and also ran the Building Blocks Family Day Care in Athens.
Besides her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Danielle Arena and Nicole Arena, both of Athens; three brothers, Clyde B. Foster of Selden, N.Y., Kenneth V. Foster of Cartersville, Ga., and Richard W. Foster of Selden, N.Y. She is also survived by her fiancée, Joseph Ciminelo, Jr. of Athens, and many cousins.

She is survived by two daughters, Dolores Winslow of Athens, and Barbara Hellen of Long Island; a son William Force of Rosewell, Ill; eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, William Force, on Nov. 8, 1977 and her sister, Viola Hulbert.

NORTON HILL---Kenneth E. Bell Sr., 53, of Norton Hill, died at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn in Albany on Sept. 18, 2004.
He was born on Dec. 17, 1950, son of Ernest Bell and the late Minnie (Case) Bell.
He was the owner-operator of Bell’s Trucking in Norton Hill and was a former member and past chief of the Medusa Volunteer Fire Co.
Mr. Bell had been incapacitated as a result of injuries received in an accident in Preston Hollow on Nov. 5, 1990.
Survivors include his guardian Karen Bell-Winans of Medusa, his father Ernest Bell of Scotia, a son, Kenneth Bell Jr., and his wife Kelly of Norton Hill; two daughters, Kimberly Anderson and her husband Joseph of Oak Hill; Kandice Sutton and her husband Jesse of Greenville; four grandchildren Madison Bell, Willobee and Kenneth Sutton, Garrett Anderson, a brother, David Bell of Norton Hill; a sister, Catherine Mart of Glenville also several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

CATSKILL---Eleanore Hartman, 93, formerly of Catskill and Durango, Col., died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
She was born April 15, 1911 in New York City, the daughter of the late Henry and Henrietta (Lunghard) Gehle.
Mrs. Hartman was a former employee of Atlanta Knitting Mills in Catskill, Carl’s Rip Van Winkle Lodge in Leeds, American Thermostat in Cairo, and a volunteer for the Green Thumb program during the 1970’s.
Mrs. Hartman was a resident of the Adventist Nursing Home in Livingston for three years and was previously a resident of Barnwell Nursing Home.
Survivors include a son, Robert Howard of Catskill; son, Clayton Vedder of Catskill; son, Harvey Vedder of Schenectady; a son Hank Vedder of Hudson; daughter, Eleanor Goodman of Durango, Col.; and daughter, Diane Hemmingway of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hartman was predeceased by her third husband Donald Hartman, her brother, Henry Gehle, her first husband Grant Howard and her second Clayton Vedder.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. Her son, the Rev. Hank Vedder, will be officiating.

She was born in Catskill on March 18, 1928; daughter of the late Harry and Minnie (Smith) German.
Murial had been employed at Bilbee Control, in Cairo. She was an avid woodworker, making lawn ornaments and decorations. Her work can be found all over Albany and Greene counties.
An avid lover of wildlife, she enjoyed deer hunting and had taken her share of trophy bucks.
Surviving are her two sisters, Mildred Nethaway and her husband Raymond, of Freehold, and Leta Payne and her husband Frank, of Greenville Center; two nephews, Gerald Payne, and Glenn Payne and his wife Denise; and two great-nieces, Stephanie and Ashley Payne.

Mazie was an active member of The York Social Register, was a devoted tennis player until nerve damage prevented physical sport activity.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years Dirck F. Leys, a sister Lida Winchell, two daughters, Elizabeth Bostrom and Lida Finlaysen and five grandchildren.

ATHENS---Harriet C. Peloubet, 90, of Athens, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004 at the home of her son on State Route 69.
Born Oct. 28, 1913 in Jersey City, N.J., she was the daughter of William J. and Elizabeth Travis Clerk.
Mrs. Peloubet had lived in Athens for most of her life and was a graduate of Athens High School.
She was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church in Athens. For many years, she was the tax collector of the Town of Athens.
Survivors include a son and two daughters-in-law, Rev. Dr. Andrew D. and Patricia Peloubet of Rome, N.Y., and Sally Peloubet of Bluefield, W.Va., a brother and a sister-in-law, Franklin B. and Winifred Clark of Athens, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one-great-great grandchild.
Mrs. Peloubet was predeceased by a son, Rev. Clark L. Peloubet of Bluefield, W.Va.
Private graveside services will be held in the Athens Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

FLAGLER BEACH, Fla.---Evelyn Frances Atkins Welling, 94, of Flagler Beach, Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, in Snellville, Georgia.
Born July 13, 1910 in Liberty, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frank Atkins and Margaret Beseth Atkins. She was the widow of William Randolph Welling.
Long-time resident of Warwick, NY, Mrs. Welling and her husband retired to Flagler Beach in 1960. An avid artist, environmentalist and animal lover, she spent countless hours enjoying nature and her retirement home. A long-time member of the Audubon Society and a contributing member of the Flagler County Humane Society, she found joy in all creatures. Her strength and determination provided inspiration to all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Mrs. Richard Frank Atkins of Warwick, NY; beloved aunt of Susan Atkins Davidson and her husband Alan of Woodbridge, CT, Linda Frances Atkins Oettinger and her husband William of Catskill, Frank Randolph Atkins and his wife Haydee of Monroe, NY; great aunt of Amy Davidson, Brad Davidson, Jared Oettinger, Taice Oetinger and Richard Atkins.
She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Atkins of Sullivan County and Catskill, and two infant brothers, Louis and Robert Atkins of Liberty.

He was a retired motorman having worked for the NYCTA for over 35 years.
He was a member of the Greenville Irish American Club and was a Fourth-Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Knock Council, East Durham.
Survivors include his wife Mary (McKee) Mullervy, son-in-law, Thomas Farley, two grandchildren, Thomas Farley and Maureen Schilling, two great-grandchildren, Farley Schilling, and Charles Schilling, also 14 step children and 26 step-grandchildren.
Mr. Mullervy was predeceased by his first wife Nora (Mcdonagh) Mullervy and his daughter Maureen Farley.

Ellen Jane Schoenborn, 67, of 63 Van Dyke St., Coxsackie, died Friday, September 24, 2004.
She was born in Hoeboken, N.J., on Oct. 1, 1936, the daughter of the late Hugo and Verona Scheuer.
Ellen has been an area resident of Coxsackie since the early 1950’s. She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church. She loved to read and loved children and animals. She was a former member of the Eastern Star, Chapter #873 Kaksakee.
She is survived by her husband Gustave C. Schoenborn, Sr., of Coxsackie; two sons, Gustave C. Schoenborn, Jr., and Monte Schoenborn of Coxsackie; a daughter, Mrs. Gene (Jennifer) Lezatte of Athens; a brother Hugo Scheuer, Jr., of Milton, NY; a sister Marie Faboskay of Malta, NY; nieces and nephews; and also by her dear golden retriever pet, Jamesen.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, Sept. 27, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the W.C. Brady’s Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie.
Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, Sept, 28, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with Deacon Henry Verdaasdonk officiating.
Interment will follow in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery.

CATSKILL---Erna Blazer, 74, of Catskill, died Sept. 23, 2004 at her residence.
She was born June 7, 1930 in Nurnberg, Germany, the daughter of Konrad and Margarete (Meyer) Ott.
Survivors include her daughter, Margarete and son-in-law, David Garvey of Tannersville, granddaughters, Elizabeth and Linda Garvey of Tannersville, a sister, Grete Fischer of Nurnberg, Germany, sister-in-law Erika Ott of Nurnberg, Germany. She was the aunt of Hannelore Evasco of Guam, Gerhard Ott and Heinke Wolfe of Nurnberg, Germany.
Mrs. Blazer was predeceased by her brothers Fritz and Hans Ott of Nurnberg, Germany, and ex-husbands Morris Blazer and Charles Maxwell.
A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004 at the Maplewood Cemetery in Jewett.

ATHENS---Andrew A. Jablanski, 78, of Market Street, Athens, died Saturday.
He was born Nov. 6, 1925, in Hudson, son of the late Steven and Susan (Wassie) Jablanski.
He was married to Bertha Collesides on Oct. 13, 1951 at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson.
Bertha died July 28, 2001. He was a resident of Athens since 1951.
Mr. Jablanski served our country in World War II in the United States serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, European Theater and the Philippines.
He was formerly employed at McCall’s Refrigeration in Hudson and retired from the Coxsackie Correctional Facility in 1989 where he was employed in the power production facility.
Survivors include his children Amber Keeler of Syracuse, Andrew Jablanski Jr., of Athens, and Mark Jablanski of Athens. His grandchildren; Patrick Keeler, Lexie Jablanski, Kyle Morrison and Kristi Greenberg. His two brothers Joseph Jablanski of Hudson, Steven Jablanski of Philmont and three sisters Anna Dallas of Hudson, Susan Muller of Hudson, and Gertrude Stafkey of Hudson. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the New Athens Rural Cemetery. Sister Mary Massa will officiate. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

CATSKILL---David D. Pacheco, 50, of Catskill, died at his residence following a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Dec. 7, 1945 in Salido, Colo., the son of the late Abel and Matilda (Sanchez) Pacheco.
He served in the Army during the Vietnam Era having attained the rank of AP4 (T). He enlisted on Dec. 14, 1967 at Denver, Colo., and was discharged on July 19, 1969 at Oakland, Calif. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.
He was a member of the VFW in Colorado. He had been employed by the Keebler Cookie Company in Denver prior to moving to Catskill three years ago.
His hobbies included crossword puzzles and he was an avid coin collector.
No formal calling hours will be held.
Private cremation will be conducted at the Albany Rural Crematorium under the direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Former town justice
ALBANY---Robert M. Auld, 74, former Coxsackie Town Justice died Sunday, Sept. 25 at Albany Medical Center.
Born in Long Island City, N.Y., on Dec. 22, 1929, he was the son of the late Robert M. Auld and Mary Corcoran Auld and husband of Juana Caminos Auld of Albany and Coxsackie.
Raised and educated in Flushing, he was a 1948 graduate of Bishop Loughlin High School.
In 1948 he attended St. Francis College in Brooklyn and graduated in 1951 from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana. In 1951 he entered Officer’s Candidate School in Rhode Island and was commissioned Ensign in 1952. He served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1955.
Mr. Auld attended St. John’s Law School from 1955 to 1957 and worked for John T. Clancy Law Office, Long Island City in 1957 and Kirlin, Campbell and Keating form 1957 to 1963.
Mr. Auld was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1958 and in 1960 to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals Eastern Division, 1959 Southern Div. and 1972 Northern Div.
In October of 1960 he was admitted to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals with Judge Thurgood Marshall in New York City. He worked in his private practice from 1963 to 1969 and served in the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office from 1969 to 1972 and became Assistant Attorney General, New York 1972 to 1983.
He returned to private practice from 1983 to 1985. He later worked for Aetna Casualty Life from 1985 to 1994 and was Coxsackie Town Justice from 1985 to 1993.
Survivors in addition to his wife Juana, include his children Karla A. Pingeton (James) of Marblehead, Mass., Robert M. Auld Jr., (Suzi) of Hoboken, N.J., Alexandra A. Pinheiro (Joaquim) of Menands, John G. Iglesias (Barbara) of Elmont, N.Y., a sister, Annette Kaicher of White Plains, as well as 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Joaquim and Alexandra Pinheiro, 42 Folmsbee Drive, Menands.
A funeral Mass will be held 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29 in St. Pius X Church, Crumitie Road, Loudonville, with Rev. Michael A. Farano officiating.

She was born on March 12, 1930 in Cairo, daughter of the late John and Silvia (Dollan) Butts.
Mrs. Davis was a lifelong homemaker and caregiver to many elderly people in the community.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Surviving are her children, Linda Stanley, Jerry Davis, Joseph Davis and his wife Susan, Frank Davis and his wife Donna, Betty Sill and her husband Jim, Todd Davis and his wife Valerie, Eric Davis and his wife Holly, Theresa Davis, Timothy Davis and his wife Lauri, 21 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Davis was predeceased by her husband Sandford Davis and three daughters, Tammy Davis, Bonnie Davis and Laura Terry and a brother Wesley Butts and a sister Agnes Kirk.

CATSKILL---Kathleen Elizabeth Allerton, 56, of Thompson Street, Catskill, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born April 11, 1948 in Catskill, she was the daughter of Clarence Barrett of Catskill and the late Betty (Brennan) Barrett.
Mrs. Allerton was a homemaker. Her family was her life. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and daughter.
Survivors include her husband, Robert S. Allerton of Catskill; two daughters, Tammy P. Klein Martinez of Albany and Tina M. Klein Lashley of Catskill; a son, Robbie S. Allerton of Catskill; a bother, Mark Barrett of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Tricia Barrett of Athens and Sharon Vincent of Catskill; and two grandchildren, Kayla Klein and Jordan Lashley, both of Catskill.
Mrs. Allerton fought an ongoing battle with cancer and fought until the very end. She will be missed by all. There are no services planned.
Private cremation was performed at Park View Cemetery in Schenectady.

CATSKILL---Henry Olthaus, 85, of Catskill, died Monday, Sept. 27, at Eden Park Health Care Center, where he had resided since Aug. 10.
Mr. Olthaus was born in New York City on Aug. 16, 1919.
He was employed as a security guard with J.P. Morgan Co. in New York City.
Upon his retirement he moved to Howard Drive in Coxsackie.
He was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast.
In 1996 he became a resident of the Pavilion at 122 Jefferson Heights.
Mr. Olthaus will be fondly remembered by his friend Larry McCarroll of Coxsackie.
Private cremation was conducted on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at the Albany Rural Crematorium under the direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

CATSKILL---John “Jack” Robb, 81, of 126 Summit Ave., Catskill, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
Born Dec. 20, 1922 in Catskill, he was the son of the late Edward and Mary (Rose) Robb.
Mr. Robb was an electrician by trade and owned and operated Robb Electric of Catskill for 48 years prior to his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s R.C. Church in Catskill. He was a life member of Citizens Hose Company No. 5 in Catskill and was a member of the Honeyford Memorial Post No. 110.
Survivors include his wife, Maureen (Sopris) Robb of Catskill; a daughter, Nancy Galindo and husband Danilo, both of Gainesville, Fla.; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Craig) Galindo King and Julie Galindo; and a great-grandson, Brandon.

CAIRO---Catherine L. Randell, 87, of Route 32 north, Cairo, died Sept. 28, 2004 at her residence.
She was born Oct. 30, 1916 in New York City.
Mrs. Rendell was a communicant of the Sacred Heart Church of Cairo, and Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham. She had been an area resident for over 26 years.
She is also a member of the Cairo Ladies Elks and the Ancient Order of Hiberians of East Durham.
Survivors include two sons Donald Randell of Cairo, Terrence Randell of East Rockaway, N.Y., and also two grandchildren Ryan and Terrence.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Randell is survived by her husband Michael Randell.

HUNTER---John Shegerian, 66, of Bellevillle, N.J., and Hunter, died Sept. 28, 2004.
He was a self-employed lithographer who in 1965 founded Litho Masters of Carlstadt and Wind Masters a wind mill company.
Always an enthusiast of professional horse racing, John owned at one point 100 trotters, which raced all over the country. He was also an amateur boater and deep-sea fisherman.
He was the father of Dione Biuckian, Danielle Shegerian, John and Carney Shegerian, grandfather of Cortney, Tyler Justin, and Alexander, brother of Mary Pernice, Lilly Ajemian, and the late Victor Shegerian, son-in-law of Constant “Monte” Montesano.

He was born Sept. 14, 1923 in Alfred, Maine, and was the son of the late Mr. And Mrs. Freeman Trafton.
Mr. Trafton has been an area resident since 1966, during World War II, he served his country in the United States Navy.
He was also a member of the Albany Construction Union.
He is survived by two sons Duane Trafton of Cornwallville, and David Trafton of Florida, two daughters, Diedra Grainer and Doreen Trafton both of Florida. He is also survived by three sisters Barbara of Florida, Helen of Maine and Lorraine of Cobleskill and six grandchildren.
