Catskill—Leslie Richard Van Hoesen, 88, of 580 West Main
Street, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003 at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill.
He was born April 23, 1915 in Catskill, the son of the
later Leslie and Jessie (Gardner) Van Hoesen Sr.
Mr. Van Hoesen was an employee of AT&T in Albany prior to his retirement. Leslie was a life member of the Citizens Hose Company No. 5 and a member of the Catskill Elks Lodge, RIPS and Telephone Pioneers of America.
He was predeceased by his wife, Thelma P. Van Hoesen, on June 21, 2000.
Mr. Van Hoesen is survived by a son, Malcolm Van Hoesen of Spring Hill, Fla.; daughter Laurel Phoenix of Catskill; grandchildren Steven Phoenix of Colorado, Jennifer Phoenix of Kentucky, Malcolm Van Hoesen Jr. of Oregon, Cindy Van Hoesen of Washington, Leslie Van Hoesen of Florida and Jennifer Van Hoesen of Arizona.
Private graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003 at Catskill Rural Cemetery. The Rev. Lee Hardgrove, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Catskill, officiated.
Memorials in Leslie’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, N.Y. 12211.

Ashland—Walter C. Sutton, 89, of Ashland, died Wednesday,
Oct. 1, 2003 at St. Peter’s Hospice in Albany.
He was born May 6, 1914 to Claude and Grace (Fuller) Sutton
in Ashland.
Mr. Sutton was retired from the Greene County Highway
Dept., where he was a heavy machinery operator for many years.
He was also a dairy farmer and the past highway commissioner for the Town of Ashland.
He was a true outdoorsman who loved hunting and gardening.
He was known as the “Pumpkin Man” to the many children
in the area, for his generous gifts of pumpkins.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Friday at the Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main St., Windham.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at
the funeral home with Rev. Thomas P. Carney officiating.
Interment will follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Ashland.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter’s Hospice.

Stamford—Eugenia N. Aull, 101, died on Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home, in Stamford, NY.
She was born on August 26, 1902, in Lindehurst, NY, the daughter of the late Eugene and Leah Yerkes DeLaMotta.
She is survived by two sons, John Aull and Eugene Aull.
Mrs. Aull was a cashier/secretary employed by Bellmore Merrick Central High School.
Friends may call Sunday, Oct. 5, from 2-4 to 7-9 p.m. and again on Monday, Oct. 6 from 10-11a.m. at the Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Windham.
Funeral service will be held Sunday evening, Oct. 5, at 8:00 p.m. at the Decker Funeral Home with Ray Kasorek of The Church of the Latter-Day Saints, Greenville Ward, officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Ashland.

Athens—Jennifer L. Rocco Girodiano, 47, of 4 Constantine Court, Athens, died at home.
She was born July 22, 1956 in Catskill, the daughter of Mary Walton of Leeds and the late Earl Cooper.
Jennifer owned and operated a private housekeeping service for over 25 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Giordiano on January 11, 1995.
Ms. Giordiano is survived by a daughter, Heather Rocco of Brooklyn; three brothers, James Cooper of Waterbury, CT, Jeffrey Cooper of Cairo and Wayne Cooper of Germany; three sisters, Mary McGrath of Catskill, Margaret Cooper of Catskill, and Bonnie Walton of Washington; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Relative and friends may call at the Traver & McCurry Funeral homes, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, on Sunday, Oct. 5, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Lee Hardgrove, Pastor of the United Methodist Church of Catskill, will be officiating. Interment will follow at Catskill Rural Cemetery.

Freehold—James Widmark, 73, passed away on Oct.1, 2003 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 2, 1930, son of the late John and Anna (Kvestad) Widmark.
Jim served his country in the United States Air Force during Korean War.
He was a computer operator for IBM until his retirement. He was an avid golfer, a member of the Thunderhart Golf Club, a member of the James Austin Lodge #557 F&AM.
He was predeceased by sister Jeanette E. Simonsen and niece Bonnie Carlson.
Surviving are his wife Patricia (Horvers) Widmark of
Freehold; step-daughters Deborah Coffin and Rebecca Davidson, both of Ormond
Beach, Fla.; step-grandchildren Charles Coffin, Mitchell Davidson, Miles
Davidson and Brittany Davidson, all of Ormond Beach, Fla., step-great
grandchildren Asia and Desiree Coffin; sister Anna Maria Carlson and her husband
John L. Carlson of Brooklyn, NY; his dog and beloved
pet Candy and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on
Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003 at 3 p.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home 4898 SR81 in
Greenville, NY. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. prior
to the service. Jim’s nephew Glen Simonsen will conduct the service for his
uncle.
As to his wishes, he will be
cremated and interment will be in the St. Augustine National Cemetery in St.
Augustine, Fla. Those who wish may contribute in Jim’s memory to the American
Heart Association or the Greenville Rescue Squad.

Hannacroix—Raymond M.
McBride, 84, of Old Kings Road, Hannacroix, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003 at
Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born March 23, 1919 in
Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Malcolm and Gertrude (Henihan) Mc Bride.
Mr. McBride moved from New York City to Greene County in 1978. He also resided in North Carolina for a number of years. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army taking part in many military battles such as The Battle of the Bulge and “D” Day.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Consolidated Edison Co. of New York City. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and loved bowling and crossword puzzles.
He was a member of the Ravena Senior Center.
His wife, Pearl, predeceased him. Survivors include two sons, Donald J. McBride of Hannacroix, and Malcolm McBride of Florida; six grandchildren, Patrick, Erin, Tara, Katie, Clarence and Jason; and three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Micaela and Ryan.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the W. C. Brady’s Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Tuesday, Oct. 7 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, in Coxsackie. Rev. Fr. John Moyna, Pastor, will be officiating.
Interment will be at the Palenville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Coxsackie Rescue Squad or the Medway-Grapeville Fire Company.

Catskill—Edith Zwoboda, 87, a native of Catskill, died at her home on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003 following a long illness.
She was born in Catskill on July 23, 1916 to the late Henry and Ethel Deyo Hoff.
She was a graduate of Catskill High School and married Robert Zwoboda on Jan. 31, 1948.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Zwoboda, and their son Allan Zwoboda, daughter-in-law Debra Zwoboda and grandson, Matthew Zwoboda, all of Catskill, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Zwoboda was predeceased by her two brothers, Arthur and Merritt Hoff, and a sister, Alice Overbaugh.
Private cremation was conducted on Monday at the Albany Rural Crematorium under the direction of the Millsbaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill.
Private graveside services will be held in the Town of Catskill Cemetery.

Edward W. Kozacek
Former Coxsackie Village trustee
Selkirk—Edward W. Kozacek, 91,
formerly of 1136 River Rd., Selkirk, passed away Oct.4, 2003.
Born April 19, 1911 at Horseheads, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Frances (Stetkar) Kozacek.
Mr. Kozacek and his family moved to Bohemia in the new nation of Czechoslovakia in 1920 and returned to New York in 1927. He went to work for William Haas as an auto mechanic. When WWII began, he was at the Watervliet Arsenal and volunteered for the Army Air Corps.
During WWII, he was with the 8th Air Force in England and flew 25 combat missions as a top turret gunner on a B-17. He was awarded the distinguished flying cross and air medal with oak clusters. Following the war, Mr. Kozacek became co-owner of the Mansion Street Garage which included a local Pontiac dealership. When the business closed, he worked as a mechanic for the Town of Coxsackie until his retirement in 1976.
He was a member of the Coxsackie Republican Party and served as Coxsackie Village Trustee from 1972 to 1976. He was a member of the Coxsackie Sportsman’s Club, D. M. Hamilton Steamer Co. No. 2, charter member of the Coxsackie Yacht Club, life member of the American Legion Post #166, past commander of the Post and treasurer for 20 years.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 44 years. Louise Horak Kozacek; sisters, Lillian Kozacek, Elizabeth Malone and Drahoumera Kotek.
Survivors include his son, Edward Kozacek and daughter-in-law Rosemary Tucci Kozacek of Delmar; nephew and his wife Edward and Bertin Kotek of Coxsackie and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will take place on Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the V. F. W. Post #3185, 404 Delaware Ave. Delmar.
Private cremation took place on Monday at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the W. C. Brady’s Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie.

Ashland—Helen F. Maben, 88, of Ashland, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
She was born June 15, 1915 in Kingston, Pa., the daughter Mary Vesta (Horton) and Ernest J. C. Fischer.
She married Winfield Maben on Oct 31, 1933.
Mrs. Maben retired as Guidance Counselor Secretary after 11 years of employment at the Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School.
She had previously been news editor of the Windham Journal for 11 years.
Following her retirement she owned and operated Willowbrook Antique Shop assisted by her husband.
Active in community affairs, she was a member of the Mt. Star Oasis Chapter of O. E. S. and their past Matron’s Club, the Johannes Hardenburgh Chapter D. A. R.; the Ashland United Methodist Church and the W. S. C. S.
She was a past officer of the Ashland Community Club; and the W. A. J. Non-Instructional Staff Association; had served on the Board of Directors of the Jewett Medical Center; a past secretary—treasurer of the Windham Rod and Gun Club. For the past years she was chairman of the committee for the restoration of the North Settlement United Methodist Church having formed the committee and being dedicated to the church’s restoration.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 70 years, Winfield M. Maben; two sons, James and daughter-in-law Susan Maben of Brookline, N.H. and Charles and daughter-in-law, Marietta Maben of Oneonta; a daughter, Mary Celia and son-in-law, Don Snyder of Aiken, S.C; nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ashland United Methodist Church with Rev. Maybelle Renzi officiating.
Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Ashland.

Coxsackie—Lucy A. Lezatte, 67, formerly of 3 Lawrence Ave., Coxsackie, and Columbia-Greene Long Term Care, Catskill, died Sunday Oct. 5, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
She was born in Catskill on Dec. 3, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Howard and Margaret (Eignor) Walker.
She worked for many years for the Mountain View Coach Lines in West Coxsackie. After her retirement, she enjoyed needlepoint and ceramics.
She was also a member of The Coxsackie United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Gene and his wife, Jennifer of Athens; a daughter, Cindy and her husband William Blunck of Coxsackie; and two beloved granddaughters, Brianna and Alexa Blunck.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Lezatte was predeceased by her husband, Grant (Sonny) Lezatte.
Calling house will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the W. C. Brady’s Sons Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie.
Funeral services will take place 11 a.m. Thursday at the Coxsackie United Methodist Church. Rev. Wendy Steed, Pastor and Rev. Fr. John Riley will officiate.
The day of the funeral everyone is asked to meet at the church.
Private cremation will follow at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands with burial of her remains at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery, Coxsackie.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Riverside Cemetery Association, or the Coxsackie United Methodist Church Fund.

Cairo—Carolann M. Nicholson, 65, of East Durham, passed away Oct. 6, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, after a long illness.
Born in Brooklyn, May 19, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Voig) Nicholson.
Ms. Nicholson has been an area resident since 1989. She loved to sew and was an avid animal lover. Prior to retirement, she was employed by the Home Federal Savings Bank of Queens, NY.
Survivors include her loving companion, Leonard Wahl of East Durham; two daughters, Kellyann Kraley of Levittown, LI, and Maureen O’Mara of Queens; two sons, Thomas O’Mara of Levittown, LI, and Patrick O’Mara of North Babylon, NY; five grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Richard’s Funeral Home, Bross Street, Cairo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Knock Shrine, Route 145, East Durham. Rev. Fr. Jeremiah Nunan, Pastor of the Scared Heart Church of Cairo, will be celebrant.
Interment will follow in the Winston Cemetery, East Durham.

Saugerties—Ferris Teator, 73, died at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson on Oct. 7, 2003.
Born in Hobart, NY on March 12, 1920, he was the son of the late Orlando and Glenna (Fitch) Teator.
Ferris was a life-long farmer and trucker in the Albany and Greene County areas and a former member of the Potter Hollow Grange.
Surviving are his wife Althia (Wolven) Teator; son Adam Teator of Greenville, daughters Glenna Ryan and her husband John of Schenectady and Katherine Ceroalo and her husband Kevin of Duanesburg; grandchildren Alexandra and Cassandra Ryan; sister Charlotte Rogers of Medusa; brothers Roger Teator of Freehold and Vincent Teator of San Pedro, Calif.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister Barbara Hallock and brother Donald Teator Sr.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 10 at 2:30 p.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home on Route 81 in Greenville. Interment will be in the Brookside Cemetery in Preston Hollow. Relatives and friends are invited to the Cornerstone Baptist Church on route 145 in East Durham at the conclusion of the committal service for a lifetime of fellowship and remembrance.

Catskill—Dominick Valentine, 90, of 287 West Bridge Street, died suddenly on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
He was born on Oct. 21, 1912 in New York City, the son of the late Phillip and Margaret Valentino.
Mr. Valentine was an employee of Weber Construction in Albany prior to his retirement. He was also a charter member of the Catskill Osborne Hose Company No. 2.
He was predeceased by his wife Mr. Julia Valentine, daughter Joan Krieg and brothers John Valentino, Louse and Anthony Valentine.
Mr. Valentine is survived by daughters Margaret Ward and Barbara Fetty, both of Catskill; brothers Richard and William Valentine, both of New Jersey, and Geronimo Valentine of Tucson, Ariz.; sister Celia McKenzie of New Jersey; son-in-law Donald Fetty of Catskill; grandchildren Karen Smith, Donna Passaretti, Pan Beck, Donald Fetty, Jr., Jeffrey Fetty, Janet Burch, Jill Cary and Jennifer Oswald; eight great-grandchildren and many cousins and nephews.

Leeds—Sarah Kalmus, 87, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003 at her home following a long illness.
She was born in New York City on July 17, 1916 to the late Abraham and Anne Flom Flaum.
She was an active member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Catskill Crafters, Hadassah and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 293. She was also a lifetime member of the Congregation Anse Emeth in Hudson and Temple Israel in Catskill
Mrs. Kalmus is survived by her loving husband Solomon (Sam) Kalmus of Leeds; their beloved daughter Anne Herchold and son-on-law Adam Herchold of New Jersey; granddaughters Melanie and Lauren Shefchif of New Jersey; sister Jessie Goldman of Hudson; brothers Sam Flaum of Claverack and Ben Flaum of Hudson; sister-in-law Helen Kalmus of Leeds; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be held today at noon at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill. Rabbie Daniel Fried of Anshe Emeth in Hudson will be officiating. Interment will be in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Catskill.

Coxsackie—Josephine Turnier, 87, died on Oct. 8, 2003 at Albany Medical Center.
She was born in Warsaw, Poland on June 6, 1916, the daughter of the late Charles and Catherine Nedwid.
She was married to Andrew Turnier, who predeceased her in 1969.
Mrs. Turnier had been an area
resident for the past 50 years. A homemaker, she was a member of the United
Methodist Church of Coxsackie and also a member of the Coxsackie Seniors.
She is survived by her children Doris and her husband Thomas Brennan of Binghamton, Andrew Daniel Turnier of Coxsackie, Elaine Turnier of Catskill and Rose and her husband Lew Hall of Myrtle Beach, N.C.; grandson Lewis Hall Jr. and a sister in Austria.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at the Sopris Funeral Home, Inc., 11877 Route 9W, Coxsackie. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Coxsackie. Pastor Wendy Steed will be officiating.

Audrey V. Fyfe, 69, of Athens died Oct. 9, 2003 at her residence after a long illness.
Born in Athens on Oct. 17, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Adelaide (Lisky) Fyfe.
Prior to retirement, she was employed by the Kaden Brothers Pocketbook Company of Athens. She was a member of The Federated Church of Athens.
Beside her parents, she was predeceased by a son, William Fyfe, and a brother, William Fyfe.
She is survived by her dear friends, the Robinson and Zowak family and Emily Brunner.
Calling hours will be held at the Richards Funeral Home on Vernon Street in Athens on Monday, Oct. 13 from 3 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday Oct. 14 at the Richards Funeral Home.

Round Top—Florence A. Hoovler, 81, recently a resident of Columbia-Greene Long Term Care in Catskill, passed away on Oct. 9, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Florence was born to Caroline and Charles Kearney on Oct. 20, 1922 in Beacon, NY.
An area resident since 1946, Florence was very active in supporting her community. She was a founder, Chapter, past president and lifetime honorary member of the Round Top Ladies Auxiliary, supporting the Round Top Volunteer Fire Company. In addition, she was past president and lifetime member of the Cairo Democratic Club and past president of the Cairo PTA.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul on Nov. 12, 1991, as well as a sister Grace Spuhler many year ago.
Surviving family members include he five children Paul Hoovler of Albany, Patricia Ulp of Dover, DE, Michael Hoovler of Raleigh, NC, Jeffrey Hoovler of Jackson, Miss and Kathleen Sundstrom of Corvallis, Oregon; nine grandchildren, Paul, Edward, Peggy, Timothy, Carrie, Kelly, Craig, Rebecca and Eric; seven great-grandchildren Joshua, Jenna, Jessica and Aidan Patrick; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Goldie and son-in-law Michael Fitzpatrick; grandchildren, Kendra Ellen Galley, Alan Peter Fitzpatrick and Tara Alice Halloway; and great-grandchildren Gabriel Kaitlyn Galley, Megan Ann Fitzpatrick, Robert Alan Fitzpatrick, Alice Regina Holloway, Michael James Holloway and Diane Marie Holloway.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, Oct. 12 at Decker Funeral Home in Windham from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m.

Windham—Kalliope Pagonakis, 96, formerly of Windham, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003 at the Robinson Terrace Nursing Home in Stamford, N.Y.
She was born on Oct. 15, 1906 in Crete, Greece, to Christos and Chrisula (Mastrantonakis) Kallitsakis.
She was predeceased by her husband Constantinos Pagonakis.
She was the loving mother of her children, son Gregory Pagonakis and daughters, Katherine Esposito, Chrisula Schmidt. and Gail Mastrantonakis; she is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main St., Windham, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, Windham.
Interment immediately following at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Ashland.

Athens—Ruth Perry, 89, formerly of Athens and Philmont, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill
Born Oct. 21, 1913 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Charles Proebster and Anna Paul Proebster.
Mrs. Perry was employed as a secretary by Dun and Bradstreet of New York City.
Mrs. Perry was a member of Scared Heart Church in Philmont, and did housekeeping at he church parish. She was a past President of Visually Impaired Association, a member of Philmont Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, and an avid gardener and walker.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Kline of Stuyvesant Falls; Judith Martino of Stuyvesant; Jacqueline Dunn of Athens; 12 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and a brother, John Proebster of Catskill.
Mrs. Perry was predeceased by her husband Ralph Perry and a brother, Charles Proebster.
Calling hours will be 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Bates and Anderson-Redmond-Keeler Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Sacred Heart Church in Philmont.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

East Durham—Harry M. Ketcham, Jr., 53, died suddenly on Oct. 12, 2003 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. He was born Nov. 20, 1949 in Catskill, son of the late Harry M. and Clarissa (Edwards) Ketcham, Sr.
A graduate of Greenville Central School, Cornell University and SUNY Albany where he received his masters degree, Harry was employed by the U. S. Dept. of Agriculture as the county director of the Farm Services Agency for Columbia and Greene Counties.
He was a life member of the Norton Hill Wildlife Club, a member of the Board of Assessment Review for the Town of Durham and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was a past school board member for Cairo Central School and a former Little League umpire. Harry also spent 10 years with the Guest Services Employment Program at Windham Mountain Ski Area, 20 years as a bartender and waiter at Vince Anna’s Restaurant in South Westerlo and was a former teacher with the QUESTAR (BOCES) program for Columbia and Greene Counties.
Harry was devoted to this family, home, the outdoors and nature. He will be missed by many who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Surviving are his wife, Eileen (Mackey) Ketcham of East Durham; sons Harry M. Ketcham III of Mesa, AZ and Troy S. Ketcham of Albany; sister Clarissa K. Smart of Hopewell Junction, NY; brothers Stewart l. Ketcham of South Royalton, VT and Henry E. Ketcham of Salt Lake City, UT, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will take place Saturday, Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. at the former Greenville Presbyterian Church.
As to his wishes, Harry was cremated at Albany Rural Cemetery. Thos who wish to donate in Harry’s memory to either the Greenville Ambulance Squad or the Town of Durham Ambulance.

Red Hook—Madeline Keute, 94, a longtime Red Hook and Bellport resident, died on Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on Feb. 5, 1909, she was the daughter of Thomas and Frieda Rossner Eve.
On Aug. 13, 1926 in Bellport, NY, Mrs. Keute married Roy A. Keute, who predeceased her on Sept. 5, 1994.
For many years, Mrs. Keute along with her husband owned and operated a chicken breeding and hatching farm in Bellport. She had resided at the Pavillion in Catskill for the past four years.
Mrs. Keute loved horses and participated in many parades with them when she lived on Long Island. She also loved her flower gardens and delighted in giving her extra plants to friends.
She leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place at a later date. Cremation took place in Wiltwyck Cemetery (Crematory) in Kingston.

West Coxsackie—Anna I. Adrain, (Mickey), 68, of Bethany Village, West Coxsackie, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born Dec. 18, 1934 to the late Joseph and Mary (Bohnert) of the Bronx, NY., she was married on Sept. 19, 1954, to the late Raymond (Flipper) Adrain, Sr.
She dedicated her life and whole self to her husband and family. She was always there for anyone in need and forever giving. She was truly a beautiful person.
In the late 1970’s, Mickey owned and operated a thrift shop located on the Dolan Block in Coxsackie.
She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church of Coxsackie and has been an area resident since 1966.
Survivors include eight children: Raymond John Adrain Jr. and wife Cheryl of Virginia Beach, Va.; Mary Frances and Floyd Mattice, Joseph Stuart and wife Nancy Adrain, Michael John and Nancy Adrain, Robert Francis and Patty Adrain, Julienna Irene Brown, Christopher Raymond Adrain, Elizabeth Ann and husband Jeffrey Stiteler, all of Coxsackie; a brother, Joseph (Butch) and wife Elene Barbier of Albany, VT.; 12 grandchildren, Raymond Francis, Raymond John, Steven James, Nicholas Paul, Amanda Lynn, Amber Marie, Crystal Marie, Andrew Michael, Cody, Kenneth, Brianna Marie, Megan Laura, and Kyleigh Ann. She is also survived by many special friends including Betty Schadick, Mabel Winbush and Vickie McQuinn.

Orin N. Crider, 77, of Albany
died Wednesday, Oct. 15, at St. Peter’s Hospital where he had been a patient
since Oct. 9.
Born Oct. 26, 1925 in Decatur, Indiana, he was the son of the later Earl and Artie (Reynolds) Crider.
He served in the Navy during World War II, having attained the rank of Pharmacist Mate 3rd Class. He enlisted on March 22, 1944 at Decatur and was discharged on March 14, 1946 at Great Lakes, Illinois, earning the Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Ribbon and Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon.
He was a chemical engineer at Lorbrook Manufacturing in Hudson until their closing, then moved to Hampton, New Hampshire where he was a chemical engineer with Foss Manufacturing until retiring to Albany in 1995.
He is survived by his wife, the former June Gildersleeve, whom he married on Sept. 19, 1986; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Gene (Linda) Hommel of Catskill and Mrs. Lawrence (Lorraine) Macera of East Greenbush; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Dr. Joseph Bellamy

Greenport—Dr. Joseph Bellamy, 82, a longtime resident of Greenport, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
Dorn Dec. 4, 1920 in London, England, he graduated from St. Paul’s School in London, where he was an out-standing scholar and athlete. He then graduated from King’s College and St. George’s Hospital Medical School of the University of London, receiving his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees in 1943.
After serving as house physician at St. George’s, he enlisted in the Royal Army Medical Corps in September 1943 and saw extensive service with the Southeast Asia Command’s 19th Indian Infantry Division in India and Burma. He was discharged in November 1946 with the rank of Captain and emigrated to the United States a month later.
He continued his graduate medical education at New York Hospital and was an intern and resident in pathology at Coney Island Hospital, Brooklyn. In 1950, he was appointed a fellow in pathology at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City, and the following year was a research fellow in hematology at New York University.
Dr. Bellamy came to Hudson in 1952 to serve as Director of Laboratories and Pathologist at Columbia Memorial Hospital and Memorial Hospital of Green County. He was also a lecturer in Pathology at Albany Medical College from 1952 until 1980 and founded the Columbia County Cancer Detection Laboratory in 1958. He was a Diplomat of the American Board of Pathology, a Diplomat in Forensic Pathology, and a Fellow of both the College of American Pathologist and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
He also served as president of the New York State Association of Public Health Laboratories and president of the Columbia County Medical Society.
During his entire medical career in the area, he served as Coroner’s Physician and was often called to testify as an expert witness in forensic medicine. After he retired from Columbia Memorial in 1985, he continued in these capacities until 1999.
Dr. Bellamy was president of the Columbia County Humane Society for 10 years, chair of the Hudson Area Community Chest (now United Way) Professional Campaign, and president of the United Jewish Appeal-Hudson Welfare Fund. A life member of Congregation Anshe Emeth, he also served on its board.
He was an avid horseman, raising Arabian horses and winning numerous ribbons at horse shows across the Northeast. Other recreational interest included swimming, scuba diving, skiing, and snowmobiling.
Survivors include his wife, Fritzi Ament Bellamy of Hudson, whom he married on Oct. 12, 1947; daughter Marlene and her husband Don Maescher of La Jolla, California; granddaughter Rebecca Hannah Maescher, also of La Jolla; nephews Leslie and Stephen Belikoff of Maitland, Florida and Dr. Joseph Ament of New York City; niece Lisa Ament Lipton and her husband Dr. Stuart Lipton of Rancho Santa Fe, California; and numerous cousins in England, Israel and South Africa.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Oct. 17 at Congregation Anshe Ameth in Hudson, and conducted by Rabbi Daniel Fried, Pallbearers were Dr. Joseph Ament, Leslie Belikoff, Dr. Stuart Lipton, Don Maescher, Larry Kanner and Dr. Stephen Mankes. Interment was at Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson.
The memorial observance will continue until Thursday with services at 7 p.m. at the Bellamy home, 21 Riverview Boulevard, Greenport.

Born May 5, 1920 in Cornwallville, she was the daughter of Osmer and Inez (Cooke) Sutton.
Mr. Leith was a graduate of Cairo High School and St. Lawrence University, where she had a degree in journalism.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Russel, Max, Erik and Asbury and a sister, Gertrude.
Survivors include one son, Toby and his wife Moira; and two grandchildren, Sarah and Adam of Salem, Mass; a sister, Leslie Sutton of Cornwallville, and many nieces and nephews.

Athens—Edward T. Wormuth, 81, of 26 North Washington St., Athens, died Sunday Oct. 19, 2003 at Community Hospice at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born Dec. 3, 1921 Peekskill, he was the son of the late Ralph and Gertrude (Misner) Wormuth.
During World War II, Mr. Wormuth served his country in the United States Navy receiving the American Campaign Medal, European African Middle East Campaign Medal, The Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, two Bronze Stars for invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, W. W. II Victory Medal and Philippines Liberation Medal for the Invasion of Leyte and Luzon.
He owned and operated The Wormuth Foundry in Athens from 1946 until his retirement.
Mr. Wormuth was a member of the American Legion of Athens and the V. F. W. of Catskill. He loved to fish and hunt.
Survivors include his second wife, Sue (Severance) Wormuth of Athens; two sons, Edward K. Wormuth of Medusa and Rev. Fr. Donald VanAlstine, Capt. U. S. Army of Pine Plains, now serving in Iraq; two daughters, Janice Myers of Athens and Diana Nicholson of Coxsackie; a brother Raymond of Orman Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren, Kristena, Edward K. Jr., Mark, Michelle, Kimberly and McKenzie; a great-grandchild Aleana, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wormuth was predeceased by his first wife, Bertha and a brother, Alvin Wormuth.

He was the son of the late Charles B. Amorosano and Frances (Insky) Amorosano.
Charles was married in New Rochelle on Oct. 7, 1957 to the former Angela Bianco, who survives at home.
Charles was a member of the Operating Engineers Local Union No. 137 of Briarcliff Manor. After retirement he became an avid golfer and was a member of the Thunderhart Golf Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children: Michael Amorosano and Wanda Rohrig, both of Putnam Valley, Janice Garofalo of Yorktown Heights and Koreen A. Amorosano of Earlton; sisters Maureen Osborne of Allen, Texas, Michelle Schmidt of Park Ridge, N.J., and brother Frank Amorosano of Warwick; grandchildren Jenna Amorosano, Robert C. and Jason M. Rohrig, Deanna Maximilian and Beatrice Garofalo. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Rexford—Sybil Alfreda Birch Boop, 86, of Wing Road, Rexford, died Wednesday, Oct. 15 of heart failure at Montgomery Meadows in Amsterdam.
Born March 20, 1917 in Elnora at the Kinns family farm, she was the daughter of the late Howard S. Birch and Emma Kinns Birch and step-daughter of the late Catherine Dorwood Smith Birch.
She attended the Alplaus School and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady.
She completed her education to become a child’s nurse at St. Margaret’s House and Hospital in Albany in 1936 and worked for many years as a private duty nurse.
As part of the war effort, she worked at General Electric Co. as a stockroom clerk.
Mrs. Boop was devoted to volunteerism throughout her life.
She was an active member of the Alplaus United Methodist Church for over 60 years where she helped organize many church dinners, participated in food drives and taught vacation Bible and Sunday school.
She also generously volunteered her time feeding the less fortunate at the Schenectady Inner City Ministry (SICM) and Schenectady City Mission.
Mrs. Boop was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and giving friend to all who knew her.
From the ministry of hugs she delivered at church each Sunday to the flowers and sunny cheer she brought to home-bound neighbors, her life was one of giving.
Survivors include he sister Martha Blum of Schenectady, sons, Richard Charles Bopp (Virginia) of Golden Valley, Minn., and Lawrence Howard Bopp (Dianna) of Schenectady, and several nieces and nephews, grandchildren, Barbara Lynne Brabetz (Stephen) of Rexford, Timothy James Bopp (Pamela) of West Coxsackie, Stacy Sara Yarwood (Paul) of Selkirk and US Army SPC E-4 Joshua Lawrence Bopp of Schenectady; and her great-grandchildren, Alexandra Leigh Bopp and Jacob Richard Bopp of West Coxsackie and Paul Raymond Yarwood III and Spencer James Yarwood of Selkirk.

She was educated in Oneonta and Unadilla. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hudson. In addition to being a homemaker, she had been a secretary and bookkeeper for former Kadin Bros, Pocket Book Mrg. Co. in Hudson.
Mrs. McKibbin is the wife of William McKibbin of Ghent; mother of Donna and her husband Brad Delp of Catskill, Howard and his wife Luanne McKibbin of Cummington, MA, Arthur and his wife Anne Coe of Germantown. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Private funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of her family.
Interment will take place at Ghent Union Cemetery.

West Chesterfield, N. H—Philip P. Palmer, 62, of Welcome Hill Road, a resident of West Chesterfield for the past 33 years, died unexpectedly on Friday, Oct. 17, 2003 at his home.
Mr. Palmer was born in Mineola on Sept. 1, 1941, the son of Maxwell and Priscilla (Proudfoot) Palmer. He was raised and educated in Greenville and was a graduate of Greenville High School, class of 1959.
He went on to attend Denison University in Granville, OH where he received his B. A. in Biology. IN 1967, he graduated from Gallaudet University in Washington, DC earning his masters in deaf education.
For 31 years, he taught math and science at the Austine School for the Deaf in Brattleboro, VT where he also coached junior varsity basketball. For many years he helped organize Green Up Day at Austine. He retired from teaching in 1998.
Previously he was a member of the faculty at the Kentucky School for the Deaf in Danville, KY. His first teaching position was in Springfield, KY.
Mr. Palmer served on the New Hampshire Human Rights Commission for the three years, was honey and maple superintendent for 15 years at the Annual Cheshire Fair in Keene and coached community baseball in Chesterfield. He was an active member of the Centre Congregational Church in Brattleboro.
Of his pastimes and interest, he was a beekeeper, enjoyed cycling and for many years rode his bicycle back and forth to work, loved the outdoors, gardening and nature walks.
He was a faithful and devoted husband and active and loving father to his two children.
On June 24, 1967 in Valley Forge, PA he was married to Judith Strange who survives him.
Besides his wife of 36 years he leaves son Jessie Palmer of Intervale, NH; daughter Rachel Davis of Seneca Falls, NY; brother M. Sheridan Palmer of Hanover, PA; several nieces, nephews and his extended family at the Austine School.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at 10 a.m. at he Centre Congregational Church in Brattleboro with the Rev. Fred Edmonds, Pastor, officiating. A reception will follow the services to the held in the church parlor.

Acra—Henry P. Zbik, 90, of Mohican Drive, died Oct. 21, 2003 at the Northeast Special Care Center in Lake Katrine after a long illness.
He was born in Warsaw, Poland, Jan. 17, 1913.
He had been an area resident since 1968 and he served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II receiving the Army Occupational Medal and WW II Victory Medal.
Prior to his retirement he was employed by the American Can Company of the Bronx.
He is survived by son Henry A. Zbik of Acra.

Cairo—Dorothy Bower, 80, formerly of Alphonus Manor, Cairo and now of Columbia-Greene Long Term Care in Catskill, died Oct. 21, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson after a long illness.
She was born in Vineland, New Jersey on May 10, 1923.
She has been an area resident for over 35 years, and she worked at ARC in Catskill. She loved to watch television, clean her room and was very humorous.
She is survived by a dear friend, Betty A. Holdren of Earlton.
Interment will take place at the New Athens Rural Cemetery in Athens on Friday, Oct. 24.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, Oct. 24 at 9:30 a.m. at the Richard’s Funeral Home, 383 Bross St., Cairo.

Windham—Betty Jane Marchiony, 75, died on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit, Hudson.
Born on Oct. 29, 1927 in Kansas City, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Fred and Winifred Traub Scroggin.
A full-time resident of Windham since 1994, Mrs. Marchiony was a member of St. Theresa’s of The Child Jesus Church in Windham and was active with the Windham Chamber Music Concert Series.
Mrs. Marchiony was marred to Louis E. Marchiony. Along with her husband, she is survived by son Louis E. Marchiony, Jr.; daughter Lisa Pettignano and her husband Christopher; grandsons Frankie Marchiony and Anthony and Joseph Pettignano; sister Jacqueline Shanks; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, Oct. 27, 2003 at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Church of The Child Jesus, Windham, with the Rev. James Schiffer officiating.

Catskill—Henry John Millspaugh, 80-year native Catskillian, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003.
Henry was born on Summit Avenue on May 2, 1923, to the late William Henry Harrison “Harry” Millspaugh and Lucy Teach Millspaugh.
He graduated from Catskill High School in 1941 and attended New London Junior College and Siena College. He enlisted in the U. S. Army on Dec. 7, 1942 and served with Company C of the 157th Infanty/45th Division and Company B of the 26th Infantry/1st Division from March 24, 1943 to Oct. 4, 1945. He earned the rank of Technical Sergeant while serving in Central Europe, Naples, Rome, Arno, Southern France, Anzio, Ardennes-Alsace and Rhineland. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Croix de Gurere and World War II Honorable Service Pin.
Upon discharge, he returned to college and married the former Clarice E. Weeks on June 28, 1947. He graduated form Simmons School of Mortuary Science in 1949 and received his state Funeral Directors License on Jan. 20, 1949. He worked with his family throughout his life in their funeral homes.
He was a life member of the NYS Funeral Directors Association, Sullivan-Teator Post 770 VFW, Honeyford Memorial Post 110 American Legion, BPOE Lodge No. 1341, F. & AM Lodge 468, Citizens’ Hose Co. No. 5, National Society Sons of the American Revolution Empire State’s Society, Columbia Chapter, Greene County and Mountain Top Historical Societies, First Reformed Church (serving as Deacon and Elder), former member of the Rip Van Winkle Club and Boy Scout Troop 47 leader.
He enjoyed customizing cars, local history, World War II history, swimming and skiing.
Henry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Clarice E. Millspaugh of Catskill; children Harry J. Millspaugh of Virginia, Mrs. Lawrence (Marsha) Blasgen of Colorado and Mrs. Peter (Mary) Hoyt of Leeds; grandchildren Mrs. Christopher (Sarah) Micele of Virginia, Nicholas C. Camerato of Leeds, John H. Millspaugh of Virginia, Amaris, Carried and Gabrielle Blasgen of Colorado; great-grandsons Evan and Ethena Micele of Virginia; sister Mrs. Ralph E. (Eliese) Van Hoesen, Sr., of Catskill; nephew Ralph E. Van Hoesen Jr. of Catskill; niece Mrs. William (Eliese) Person of Colorado. He was predeceased by his parents Henry Millspaugh on July 2, 1967 and Lucy Tesch Millspaugh on Oct. 3, 1974 and son-in-law Nicholas J. Camerato on Dec. 30, 1995.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 27, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill, with interment following in the Town of Catskill Cemetery.

Leeds—Florence (Barbarotta) Vassallo, 80, of Feddes Mobil Home Park, died Oct. 22, 2003 at her residence after a long illness.
She was born in Rhode Island on Nov. 18, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Beatrice Varone.
Florence has been an area resident since 1976. She was a communicant of the Sacred Heart Church of Cairo, a volunteer for the Greene County Senior Citizens Council, Inc., a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. She was deeply fond of her family and loved to sew and take cruises.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the East River Savings Bank of New York City.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her first husband John C. Barbarotta, who died in 1986, and her second husband Frank Vassallo in 1996.
She is survived by son John Barbarotta, Jr., of New Jersey, step-son Dominick Vassallo of Windham, daughters Mrs. Robert (Joanne) Anderson of Georgia and Mrs. Edward (Audrey) Sweeney of Leeds; step-daughter Brenda of Georgia; sisters Mary Fazio, Eve Monbraquette, Ida DeSario and Lee Provitila, all of Florida; grandchildren John and Pam Karklin, Erick and Lorie Anderson, Michelle and Mike Weber, Tracy and Brian Rosell, Jaclyn and Pete Rodemann; great-grandchildren Ashley, Joshua, Jacob Jessica, Kaitlyn, Krisotpher, Nathan, Andrew, Amber, Liam and Brynn; as well as two nieces and two nephews.
Memorial services will take place on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at 5:30 p.m. at the Richards Funeral Home, 383 Bross St., Cairo, with the Rev. Dave Overton, chaplain of the Community Hospice of Catskill, officiating.
Interment will take place at a later date in the veteran’s section in the family plot of the Catskill Town Cemetery.

Athens—Virginia J. Gabrielsen, 84, of Route 9W died Oct. 22, 1003 at her residence.
Born in Queens, NY on Aug. 12, 1919, she was the daughter of the late John and Lillian (Correll) Giese.
Virginia had been an area resident for 35 years. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Greene County Memorial Hospital for 20 years.
She was an avid animal lover.
She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Ann Macarelli of Athens; son, David Gabrielsen of Florida; and beloved grandson Paul David Macarelli of Athens; as well as devoted niece, Mary Agnes Jacovino of Selkirk.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Albert who predeceased her on Nov. 1, 1968.
Relatives and friends called at the Richards Funeral Home in Cairo on Thursday evening.
Private cremation took place Friday morning at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.

Coxsackie—Josephine C. (Misuraca) Wood, 90, of 408 Bethany Village in West Coxsackie, died on Oct. 23, 2003 at her residence.
She was born on Aug. 5, 1913 in Coxsackie, the daughter of the late Dominick and Mary (LaPorte) Misuraca.
During her days of employment, Josephine was employed as an assembler for the American Tree and Wreath Company. She was also employed at The G. E., which at the time was located in Coxsackie, and also at the Hot Shot, which is now the Marriott as a waitress.
Josephine was a life member and communicant of St. Mary’s Church of Coxsackie, a member of the Rosary Society, long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Coxsackie, serving at one time as president, the Bethany Village Area Senior Citizens of Coxsackie and the Senior Citizens Club of Coxsackie.
Besides her parents and her husband, Josephine is predeceased by her four brothers, Jerome, Joseph, Dominick and James; and two sisters, Sarah DiAcetis and Teresa Bonacci, who passed away a few years ago.
Survivors include a son, Leonard Wood of Coxsackie; daughters Patricia Esposito of Coxsackie, Jean Freese of Myrtle Beach, SC and May Jane Frank of West Coxsackie; sister May Buckoff; 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 27 at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Paul Tartaglia as the celebrant, at St. Mary’s Church in West Coxsackie.
Interment will follow in the family plot of the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Coxsackie, next to her later husband Leroy Wood, who predeceased her on Nov. 11, 1972.

She was born Aug. 4, 1916 in Bridgeport, Conn., the daughter of the late Maciej and Emilia (Markisz) Kisielewski.
Mrs. Dul was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Catskill. She was a member of the St. Anthony’s Secular Franciscan Order, Catholic Daughters of America, St. Patrick’s Rosary Altar Society, RSVP, Catskill Senior Fellowship, and St. Patrick’s Mother’s Club and Choir.
Survivors include four sons, John J. Dul of Lutz, Fla., James P. Dul of Bolivar, N.Y.; David Dul of Pacifica, Calif.; and Edward M. Dul of Mont Clare, Pa., three daughters, Camilie M. Dul of Catskill; Patricia A. Dul of Red Hook, Mary Fhey of Vista, Calif.; four grand children, Cherish M. Vogt of Red Hood; Brian D. Bomersbach of Haverhill, Mass.; Hannah M. Dul of Portsmouth, N. H., and Colin A. Dul of Bolivar, N.Y.; great-grandchildren Christina M. Vogt of Red Hook and Diana E. Vogt of Red Hook; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mrs. Dul was predeceased by her husband John A. Dul on June 26, 1983; two brothers, Bruno Kisiel and Matty Kisielewski; and two sisters, Stephanie Gasiorowski and Martha Dimler.

Staten Island—Adolf G. Blum, 62, of Staten Island, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003 at Albany Medical Center in Albany.
Borne April 28, 1941, in Staten Island, he was the son of Otto and Olga Blum.
He was a transportation mechanic employed by Con Edison, Staten Island, N.Y., for 36 years until he retirement.
Mr. Blum was the loving husband of Gloria Strausser Blum.
Survivors include a son, Andrew G. Blum; a daughter, Darlene Mattice and her husband Dennis; three grandchildren, Dennis Mattice Jr., Kenny Mattice and Danielle Kellerhouse.
Mr. Blum was predeceased by his first wife Carol Veen and by his son, Ronald J. Blum.

Catskill—Rose Gibson, 73, of Five Miles Woods Road, died suddenly on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003 while vacationing with her husband in Freeport, Bahamas.
Born Rose Onigian on Dec. 26, 1929 in Springfield, Mass., she was the daughter of George and Vartanoush Onigian.
Rose married Gordon L. Gibson in 1954 and relocated to Catskill in 1971 with their purchase of Catskill Enterprise Printing on Grandview Avenue in Catskill, which they operated until their joint retirement in 1998. Over the years, Rose enjoyed living in Catskill and raising her family. She loved her family and her greatest pleasure was in spending cherished moments and special times with them.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Gordon Gibson; four married daughters: Dana Masselli and her husband John of South Cairo, Linda Nicols and her husband Howard of Warrensburg, Sandra Kopee and husband James of Broadalbin and Bonnie Kent and her husband Jess of Catskill; grandchildren Cheryl, John and Andrea Masselli, Jessica, Chrissy and Ben Nicols, Amanda and Paula Kent; sisters Lucy Smith of Springfield, Mass. and Victoria Abajain of Thornwood.
She was predeceased by four siblings many years ago when her parents fled Armenia at the onset of the hostile occupation of that country. She has many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law residing out of the immediate area, who also mourn her passing.

Catskill—Harold Sager Lowe, 85, formerly of Carlinville, Ill., and Catskill, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at he Pavilion in Catskill.
He was born Jan. 20, 1918 in Bellefountaine, Ohio, the son of the late Wilbur and Flossie (Ross) Lowe.
Harold served in the United States Army. He was a veteran of World War II and served as a Major in the Army Air Corps. While stationed in Columbus, Ohio, he met his future wife, Martha Yates.
Harold and Martha moved to Carlinville in 1947 and taught music at Blackburn College while Martha looked after the house and her two sons. Harold retired as chairman of the Music Department in 1980. He was a member of the Carlinville Federated Church, Gillespie Country Club and Carlinville County Club.
Upon retiring, Harold and Martha began wintering in Vero Beach, Fla., and summering back in Carlinville. Harold has been a Catskill resident since 2000.
Mr. Lowe was predeceased by two brothers, Dr. Ross Snyder and Ronald Lowe, and two sisters Lorene Yinling and Ester Lowe.
Mr. Lowe is survived by two sons: Vandebilt University Professor Dr. David A. Lowe of Nashville, Tenn., and Windham Country Club Golf Pro Brian Y. Lowe and wife Stephanie, both of Windham.
Private cremation was preformed at Park View Cemetery in Schenectady. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. Interment will be in Jefferson, Ohio.

Smithtown—Julia C. Welch, 98, of Smithtown, and formerly of Hannacroix, and St. Petersburg, Fla., died Oct. 28, 2003 in St. Catherine of Sienna Hospital in Smithtown.
Julia was born Dec. 24, 1904 in New York City, daughter of the late John and Catherine (Collins) Mellett.
She was devoted wife and homemaker, a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville, the Altar Rosary Society, Golden Years Club in Greenville and the National AARP.
Julia was predeceased by husband Frederick Welch, sisters Mary Marshall, Catherine Elzin and Rita McMahon, brothers Joseph Thomas, Francis and James Mellet.
Surviving are brothers, John Mellet of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Edward Mellett of Bauvelt; niece Maureen Moore of Smithtown; nephews Richard Marshall of Oak Hill, James Elzin of Las Vegas, Nev., Terrance McMahon of Largo Vista, Texas and Dennis McMahon of Rego Park; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services to which relatives and friends are invited will be on Friday, Oct. 31, 2003 at 8:30 p.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. from St. John the Baptist Church. Lanesville—Edward H. Haenlein, 76, died on Oct. 27, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was born July 14, 1927 to James H. and Pauline Walsh Haenlein in Brooklyn, NY.
He was the owner and operator of Ed’s Auto Body Shop in Lanesville, NY.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Stoney Clove Rod and Gun Club, Experimental Aircraft Association and a past member of the Hunter Fire Company.
He is survived by his wife Edna; daughter and son-in-law Judith and Charles Valk; granddaughter Andrea Valk, all of Tannersville.
Cremation was held at the Wiltwyck Rural Crematory in Kingston, NY. Services were Private.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Tannersville Rescue Squad.

Kenneth V. Parks

Catskill—Kenneth Van Vechten Parks, 85, native of Catskillian and retired Air force major, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson following a long illness.
Mr. Parks was born on Feb. 8, 1918 to the later Stewart W. and Mabel Nancy Vedder Parks.
He graduated from Catskill High School, class of 1936, and attended Albany Business College. He was employed by the Times Union prior to enlisting in the Air Force. He served from 1941 to 1945 during World War II and from 1947 to 1963 during the German occupation and was the Director of Consolidated Unit Personnel and Commander, Headquarters Squadron Section, 315th Air Division from Oct. 22, 1957 to Sept. 16, 1959.
He received the Air Force Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster on Feb. 27, 1963 upon his retirement from the Laredo Air Force Base in Texas as Secretary of the Officer’s Open Mess.
Following his retirement, Mr. Parks returned to his hometown and began his genealogical project for the Vedder Memorial Library (named for his grandmother, Jessie Van Vechten Vedder). He transcribed hundreds of vital statistics on births, marriages and deaths in Greene County prior to the mandate that they be recorded and retained by the state. He was a member of the Leeds Reformed Church and the Greene County Historical Society.
Mr. Parks is survived by his brother Edward M. Parks of Palm City, Fla., sister-in-law Donna Parks of Florida; nieces Mrs. Kevin (Linda) Walsh of Cold Spring, NY; great-nephew Parker Walsh; cousins Ruth Schmidt and Dorothy Scanlon of Leeds.
Funeral services will be held on Sat. Nov. 1, 2003 at 11 a.m. in the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill, with the Rev. Richard Snowden, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Catskill, officiating. Interment will follow in the Town of Catskill Cemetery.
Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home prior to the service at 10 a.m.

She was born on April 29, 1929 to George and Mary Morse Jolimay in Kingston, NY.
She was a beautician and was the owner of Corky’s Beauty Mart for over 50 years.
She is survived by her son Daniel Powell and wife Wendy; sister Elsie Jensen, all of Tannersville.
She was predeceased by her husband Ira Powell on Oct. 20, 1989.
Graveside services will be held Friday, Oct. 31, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Tannersville Evergreen Cemetery. Tannersville, NY. Officiating will be Rev. Howard E. Velzy.
