P. Kenneth Cook Mechanic
Greenville—P. Kenneth Cook, 85, died at his home in Preston Hollow on Oct. 31, 2002.
He was born on April 3, 1917, son of the late Melvin and Maude (Wilsey) Cook, was a mechanic and had worked for the Gilboa-Conesville Central School.
He was also a member of the Potter Hollow Union Church. His wife Irene (Delameter) Cook predeceased him in 2001.
Survivors include his son Roger Cook and his wife Ruth of Conesville; his grandchildren, Marilynn Clark and her husband Rick, Carolyn Faraci and her husband Gary, Kenneth Mattice and his wife Theresa, Gene Mattice and his wife Pam, Philip Mattice and his wife Tracey, and Betsy Mattice. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Lester, Ralph and Frederick (Pete) Cook, and two sisters Mildred Smith and Lina Moore.
Funeral service will be Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1. p.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, Nov. 1, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Interment will be in the Potter Hollow Cemetery.

Percy W. Merwin Sr. Avid Yankee fan
Albany—Percy W. Merwin Sr.,
66, of Tannersville, died on Oct. 28, 2002 at Albany Medical Center. He was born
to the late Ernest and Mebel Rice Merwin in Jewett. He was a graduate of
Hunter-Tannersville Central School and had worked for Hunter Mountain Ski Bowl
for more than 32 years. He was also
a bartender at McGreggor’s Pub in Hunter. He was an avid Yankees fan and
enjoyed people.
He was predeceased by his son Percy Merwin II and his twin brother, Paul.
He resided with his companion
Shelia Bennett of Tannersville and is survived by his daughter Tracey Hanningan
of Kinnelon, N. J., three sisters Louise Begley of Windham, Marjorie Ingram of
Margaretville, Nancy Bussy of Leesburg, Fla., a sister-in-law Patricia Merwin of
Jewett, two grandsons, Christopher and Sean Harrington, and several nieces and
nephews and cousins.
Cremation was held at the Wiltwyck Rural Crematory in Kingston. A memorial funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. at the Aston Basagic Funeral Home, Main Street, Hunter. Officiating will be the Rev. John O’Brien.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Merwin may be made to the Albany Medical Center Children’s Hospital Neurological and Cancer Research or the Tannersville Rescue Squad.

Joan Brett wife of the Rev. Wilbert Brett
Catskill—Joan Brett died June 20, 2002. Her husband, the Rev. Wilbert Brett, was a pastor of the First Baptist Church when it was located on Main Street in Catskill.
At the time of her death, Mrs. Brett,74, was a resident of Genesis Elder Care, Millville, N. J.
Mrs. Brett taught at Columbia-Greene Community College in Greenport, majored in five languages and studied Russian.
While she was in good health, she always spoke in Spanish about the Lord to many of the Spanish-speaking patients at the nursing home.
Rev. Brett and his wife Joan would have been married 47 years June 30, 2002.
Pastor Brett still does some preaching in church and is still and avid sports fan. He would enjoy hearing from this friends in Catskill. His address is 200 Riverside Drive, Millville, N.J. 08332.

William H. Byrne Retired NYC firefighter
Hunter—William H. Byrne, 93, of Tannersville, died Oct. 31, 2002 at the Robinson Terrace in Stamford.
He was born May 23, 1909, to Hugh and Mary Ellen Flyne Byrne in Haines Falls.
He was a retired New York City fireman. He also served as Democratic commissioner for the Greene County Board of Elections and was a Greene County Democratic committeeman. He was a Hunter Mountain Fire Tower observer and a Hunter-Tannersville school board member and president.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Owen, Thomas, Leo and Aloyisius, and a daughter, Barbara Weis.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Curran Byrne of Tannersville; four daughters, Nancy Truesdell of Tannersville, Susann Burtcit of Slippery Rock, Pa., Diann Thorp of Haines Falls and Patricia Drumm of Denver; one brother, Edward Byrne of New Jersey; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Haines Falls. Officiating will be the Rev. Donald E. Doyle.
Interment will follow in the St. Francis de Sales Cemetery in Elka Park.
Friends and relatives may call at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, Main Street, Hunter, on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to a fire company of choice.

Susan Frances Nieves Retired medical technician for New York University
Cairo –Susan France Nieves, 57, of Blackhead Mountain road, Round Top, died suddenly Oct. 31, 2002, at the residence of her sister Sharon Torres, after a long illness.
She was born in Boston, Sept. 14,1945, and was the daughter of the late Frank and Harriet (Knudsen) Fisher.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 4, 2002 at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Cairo, with the Rev. Fr. Jeremiah Nunan, pastor, the Celebrant.
Interment will follow next to her late husband Julio Nieves, who predeceased her on Nov. 11, 2001, in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne. Prior to her retirement, she was a registered nurse and a medical technician for New York University.
She is survived by her two sisters, Mrs. Romon (Sharon) Torres of Round Top and Linda Ann McCue of Newburgh. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Katherine Kindred Decker Avid gardener, reader, and antiquarian print collector
Albany—Katherine Kindred Decker of Haines Falls, died on Nov. 3,2002 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany as a result of complications from scleroderma. She was 68. Mrs. Decker was an avid gardener, reader and antiquarian print Collector.
Mrs. Decker, the beloved wife of Ronald Miles Decker and the dear mother of three sons – William Miles Decker of Atlanta, John Harrison Decker of Sacramento, Calif., and Alfred Cramer Decker of Dedham, Mass., and the grandmother of five, will be dearly missed. She is also survived by two siblings, John Joseph Kindred IIII of Haines Falls and Ann Kindred Collins of Greenwich, Conn.
A memorial service is planned for July 5, 2003 at All Angels Church, Twilight Park, Haines Falls. The family asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be sent to the Haines Falls Free Library in Haines Falls, N.Y. 12436.

Anthony J. Petronis Retired New York Central railroad conductor
Saratoga Springs—Anthony J. Petronis, 85, of Van Dyck Street, Coxsackie, died Nov. 3, 2002, at the Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs.
He was born in Coxsackie on July 25, 1917, and was the son of the late Anthony and Rose (Sharkus) Petronis.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Coxsackie, with the Rev. Fr. John Moyna as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the family plot of St. Mary’s Cemetery, Coxsackie, next to his wife Mathilda (Marge) Petronis, who predeceased him in 1998.
Mr. Petronis is survived by three son, Thomas P. Petronis of Saratoga Springs, Kenneth C. Petronis of Overland Park, Kan., and Alan D. Petronis of Pittsburgh. He is also survived by his sister, Anna Petronis of Albany. Survivors also include six grandchildren, Thomas P. Petronis Jr. of Philadelphia, Jonathan J. Petronis of Philadelphia, Kevin M. Petronis of Overland Park, Kan., Sarah G. Petronis of Pittsburgh and Joshua Petronis of Pittsburgh. He is also survived by a dear close friend, Marie Kadlick of Coxsackie. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Petronis is predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Molle.
He was a communicant and usher of St. Mary’s Church of Coxsackie, a member of the Coxsackie Council No. 548 Knights of Columbus, a longtime member of the Coxsackie yacht Club, a member of the Brotherhood Railroad Trainmen Local Chapter, and he was also a member of the Upper Landing Boys.
Prior to his retirement, he was a railroad conductor for New York Central. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the W. C. Brady’s Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie.

Josephine Polidor
Parish housekeeper
Hudson—Josephine Polidor, 100, a five-year resident of Eden Park Nursing Home in Hudson and formerly of Hudson Terrace Apartments, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2002, at the Eden Park following a long illness.
Born Jan. 27, 1902 in Duanesburg, Schenectady County, she was the daughter of the late Onorato and Crucifissia Petresionne De Luke.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where she was the housekeeper, and St. Mary’s Church in Hudson.
Mrs. Polidor was also a member of the Third Order of St. Francis and the Hudson Lady Elks.
Survivors include a daughter, Palmina “Pam” White of Hudson; a brother, Louis De Luke of Stottville; two sisters, Angelina Palen and Mirinda Allen, both of Hudson; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Elmo, who died in 1942; two sons, Frank Polidor and Ludwig O. Polidor; five brothers, John, Peter, Sisto, Ralph and Anthony Polidor; and two sisters, Mary De Joy and Philomena De Capite.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Valenti and Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson.
Interment will follow in the family plot at Cedar Park Cemetery, next to her late husband.

William Schellhorn Hauppauge school district teacher
Babylon—William Schellhorn of Babylon died on Nov. 2, 2002. he was a teacher for 36 years in the Hauppauge School District. He was a beloved husband top Maureen (McCrystal) Schellhorn, and a loving father to Mary Beth, James, Eileen, Anne and Caitlin Schellhorn.
He was a devoted son of Mary and the late Frank Schellhorn and a dear brother to Frank Schellhorn and Elizabeth Petersen. He was a fond brother-in-law of Robert Petersen, Sandy Schellhorn and Cathleen McCrystal (John Siefert)
Friends may visit today between 7 to 9:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Claude R. Boyd-Spencer Funeral Home, 448 W. Main St., Babylon Village. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, 10:45 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Babylon. Interment will be in St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.

Madeline Lewis Haines Dedicated to family, church and community
Catskill—Madeline Haines 81, of 38 County Estates, South Cairo, died Thursday morning, Nov. 7, 2002 at the Catskill home of her daughter where she has been cared form since discharged from Columbia Memorial Hospital on Oct. 25, 2002.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 11, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the First Reformed Church, 310 Main St., Catskill. The Rev. David Tipple, pastor of the Kiskatom Reformed Church, will officiate. Interment in the family plot at the Town of Catskill Cemetery at the convenience of the family will follow cremation at Albany Rural Crematorium at Menands.
Born on the Lewisdale Farm in Medusa, on July 26, 1921, Mrs. Haines was the daughter of the late Harold D. and Theresa Spaulding Lewis. She was the wife of the late Donald D. Haines, residing with him in the Village of Catskill for most of her adult life.
Mrs. Haines was a graduate of the Greenville High School and Albany Business College, beginning her career as a legal secretary for Attorney John Glen in Albany. She moved to Catskill following her marriage in 1944, raising a family and working with her church, the PTA and Girl Scouts. She worked with her husband as secretary at Haines Garage from 1970 until 1985.
Dedication to family, church and community was the keystone of Mrs. Haines’ life. She was a devoted member of the First Reformed Church of Catskill since 1944, where she served on many committees, most recently the President of the Reformed Church Women. She also server as a Reformed Church Women’s Classis officer on the state level. She was an Honorary Member and Past President of the Fortnightly Club, a member of Gretchen’s Club, Atetekas and Monday Club. She volunteered for the American Red Cross where she chaired many local blood drives, delivered Meals on Wheels and provided transportation for RSVP.
Following the death of her husband in 1987, she continued his work on the Catskill Local Waterfront Revitalization Project. She was an honorary member of the Catskill Rotary Club, recently honored at their annual dinner on Oct. 22, 2002 with the John Bagley Service Award.
Surviving are her two daughters, Linda Overbaugh of Catskill and Laurel Braaten of Woodstock, Conn.; two sons, Donald Mark, Haines of Indialantic, Fla., and Richard Lewis Haines of Philmont; her sister Laura Willig of Fort Pierce, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her brother-in-law Dr. Richard L. Haines of Wilmington, NC.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Harry C. Lewis in 1997.
Relatives and friends will be received at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139, Jefferson Heights, Catskill from 2 to 4 and 7 to p p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Community Hospice or the First Reformed Church of Catskill are suggested. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Mary Bridgett Murphy Madden Born in New York City
Albany—Mary Bridgett Murphy Madden, of Albany, died Nov. 6, 2002 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center. She was born April 19, 1917 in New York City, daughter of Cornelius Murphy and Jane Ryan.
She is survived by one son and four daughters, Lee (Marcella) Madden of Brockport, Patricia (John) Casey of Cortland, Geraldine (Oskar) Weidel of Coxsackie, Kathleen Madden of Cambridge and Maureen (Frederick) Dermott of Windermere, Fla.
She was predeceased by a brother, Gerald Murphy of New York City, an infant son Kenneth and a daughter Jeannette (Anton) Geerts of Coxsackie.
She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a. m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Coxsackie.

Charles D. Raffiani Sr. Owner of Charlie’s Auto Body
Earlton—Charles D. Raffiani, 61, of Schoharie Turnpike, Earlton, died suddenly at his residence Nov. 7, 2002.
He was born in Paterson, N.J., March 28, 1941, to the late Francis Raffiani and Catherine Whitbeck Raffiani VanDenburgh.
Funeral services will take place Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002 at 10 a.m. at the Richards Funeral Home, 383 Boss St. Cairo, with the Rev. Fr. Jeremiah Nunan officiating.
Private cremation will take place at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.
He is survived by three sons, Charles D. Raffiani, Jr. of Catskill, Todd J. Raffiani of Fishkill and Phil Raffiani of Earlton; two daughters Dawn M. (Rivenburgh) Raffiani of Catskill and Beck Raffiani of Greenville; four brothers, Francis (Shorty) Raffiani of Pennsylvania, John Raffiani of Climax, John VanDenburgh of South Cairo and Roger VanDenburgh of Freehold.
Survivors also include four grandchildren, Charles D. Raffiani of Catskill, Jill L. Raffiani of Catskill, Mikayla Rivenburgh of Catskill and Tiffani Raffiani of Delmar, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his long time companion, Pauline F. Walker, and her daughter Kristie Walker, both of Cairo.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Phillipe R. Raffiani, Richard VanDenburgh and Robert Raffiani.
Mr. Raffiani was the owner and operator of Charlie’s Carstar Auto Body and Charlie’s Self Storage in Palenville. He was a member and past president of the Lions Club of Catskill, a member of the Loyal Order of The Moose of Sebastian, Fla., a member of the Italian American Club of Florida, a member of the Catskill Elks Lodge No. 1341 and of Florida. He was a former president of the Capital District Auto Body Association Collision Technicians, a member of the Coxsackie Yacht Club, and a member of the Society of Collision and Repair Specialists.
He was a five-time consecutive award winner of the Carstar’s prestigious Customer Satisfaction Award. He loved to restore classic and muscle cars. He was also an active gardener and loved to travel. Mr. Raffiani served his country in the U. S. Navy.

Frieda Haarklau Chef and homemaker
Ghent—Freida Haarklau, 97, of Hunter, died on Nov. 7, 2002 at The Green Manor Adult Home in Ghent.
She was born Oct. 14, 1905, to Anders and Petra Arnesen in Norway. She was a chef and homemaker. She was a member of the Maplecrest Free Methodist Church and the Mountain top Golden Agers. She loved Bingo and her friends and family.
Mrs. Haarklau is survived by one son, Oscar Haarklau and his wife Marilyn of Cairo, and five grandchildren, Darran, Kirk, Mark, Gary and Laura, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, Main Street, Hunter. Officiating will be the Rev. Michael Jansen. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Windham.
Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Donations may be made to the rescue squad of choice, in her memory.

Frank John Gordiano Millwright at the Alsen Cement Company
Cementon—Frank John Gordiano, 86, of 93 Maple Ave., Cementon, died suddenly, Sunday, Nov. 10, at home.
Mr. Gordiano was a millwright at the Alsen Cement Company prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the Cementon Sportsmen Club and Local 17 Laborers Union.
Mr. Gordiano loved boat racing on the Hudson River and was a winner of the annual Albany to New York City Boat Race.
Survivors include his wife of more than 63 years, Mrs. Lena A. (Wyuszomirski) Gordiano of Cementon; two sons, Allen Gordiano of Saugerties and Frank Gordiano Jr. of Saugerties; two daughters, Jeanne Brice of Cementon and Lynne Gordiano of Palenville; a brother, James Gordiano of Catskill; four sisters, Rose Sapunarich of Catskill, Grace Tobiassen of Saugerties, Virginia Konopka of Cementon, and Ann Ferguson of Calif.; four grand children, Milton Orsulich III, Steven Brice, Jared Gordiano, and Brett Gordiano. And many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.
Funeral services will be conducted 9:30 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. The Rev. John J. Murphy, pastor, St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church of Catskill will be officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Catskill.

Marilyn J. Rieseberg Co-Owner Rainbow Cabins and Motel
Catskill—Marilyn J. Rieseberg, 81, of 4930 Route 32, Catskill, died Saturday, Nov. 9, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
She was born June 14, 1941 in Catskill, the daughter of the late Jalo and Harriet (Young) Kusisto.
Mrs. Rieseberg co-owned and operated Rainbow Cabins and Motel in Catskill. She was a member of the DAR, Town of Catskill Women’s Republican Club; and Kiskatom Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
She loved to cook, crochet, and do crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald O. Rieseberg of Catskill; three children, Ronald Riesenberg and wife Anita, both of Cairo; Lorilynn Riesenberg of Catskill; and Bonnie Rieseberg Caro and husband Stephen both of Catskill; five grandchildren, Taylor Ashlock, Brittany Rieseberg, Renee Rieseberg, Aradia Ashlock, and Katelynn Caro; two brothers, Robert Kusisto and James Leonard Kusisto, both of Leeds; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Rieseberg was predeceased by a brother, George Kusisto.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Theodore W. Goesch Former Athens Fire Chief
Pittsburgh, Pa.—Theodore W. Goesch, 75, of Athens dies Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 in Pittsburgh, Pa., after a short illness.
He was born on Nov. 4, 1927 in Athens, son of the late Theodore and Adeline (Laibach) Goesch.
He graduated from Athens High School in 1945, and was a member of the Athens High School Alumni Association.
He retired in 1992 as a sergeant with the New York State Corrections Department in Coxsackie after many years of service. He was a Navy veteran and served on the USS Bon Homme Richard. He was a past member of the W.H. Morton Fire Company of Athens where he served as fire chief, and for many years was an active member of the Athens Democratic Club.
Mr. Goesch was a member of the Gospel Community Church in Coxsackie. He was the beloved husband of Veronica Ann Riescher, whom he married on Oct. 6, 1951; devoted father and father-in-law of Cheryl Ann (Edward J., Sr.) Mudge of Coxsackie, and Ann Margaret (John Jr.) Bain of Beaver Falls, Pa. He was the loving grandfather of Edward Mudge Jr., Veronica Ann Mudge and Sarah Mudge, of Coxsackie, and Cody Bain and Erin Bain of Beaver Falls, Pa. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret De Flumer of Athens. He was predeceased by his sister, Evelyn Goesch in 1957; also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 13, 7 to 8 p.m. at the Gospel Community Church, Mansion St., Coxsackie, at which time a prayer service will be conducted by the Athens Fire Company. A fellowship hour will follow from 8 to 9 p.m. at the church. A family visitation hour will be precede the service from 6 to 7 p.m. Graveside services will be held in the spring.

Hudson—Marie Sackett, 70, of 9886 Route 9W, Athens, died early Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
She was born May 15, 1932 in Mahopac, N.Y., daughter of the late William and Audrey (O’Dell) Blenis Sr.
Formerly of Mahopac and New Paltz, Mrs. Sackett had been an Athens resident since 2002. She was a long-time volunteer of the Salvation Army.
Mrs. Sackett is survived by her husband Frederick P. Sackett Sr. of Athens; four sons, Charles H. Sackett of Highland, Joseph J. Sackett and wife Teri of Athens, Frederick P. Sackett Jr., of Kingston and Frank J. Sackett of Highland; two daughters, Carol Ann Medici and husband Daniel, both of Athens, and Mary Jane Sackett of Peekskill; 20 grand-children and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. The Rev. David K. Catskill—Helen S. Ricci, 82, of Greene Long Term Care, Jefferson Heights, Catskill, formerly of Cairo, died Nov. 11, 2002 at Greene Long Term Care after a long illness.
She was born in Fleischmanns, N.Y., on Oct. 12, 1920, and was the daughter of the late John and Anne Burke (Sutter.)
Mass of the Christian Burial will take place Friday, Nov. 15, 2002 at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Cairo, with the Rev. Jeremiah Nunan the celebrant.
Interment will follow in the family plot of St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Catskill.
Mrs. Ricci was a graduate of the Albany Business College and a member of that school’s basketball team. She was an honor student and received the New York Times Medal Winners Award. From 1953 to 1976 she owned and operated the Ricci and Puglisi Insurance Company, retiring in 1976.
After retiring, she devoted much of her time to the Cairo Public Library. She was a communicant of the Sacred Heart Church of Cairo and a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was a member of the Advisory Board of the State Bank of Albany, She loved reading and crossword puzzles.
Beside her parents, she was predeceased by her husband William A. Ricci in 1964.
She is survived by her two sons, Peter Ricci and his wife Jane of Round Top, and David Ricci and his wife Nancy of Selkirk. She is also survived by her two daughters, Tina Oettinger and her husband Richard of Athens, and Anita Ricci of Columbia Greene Long Term Care, Catskill. She is also survived by her brother Paul Sutter of Cairo, a sister Anita Benedetto, also of Cairo. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at Richards Funeral Home, 383 Boss St., Cairo, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Lake Katrine—Stella L. Shultz, 85, of Haines Falls, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002 at the Northeast Center for Special Care in Lake Katrine, where she was recovering from a lengthy illness.
Born in Haines Falls, Mrs. Schultz was the daughter of the late Leroy and Elsie Saxe Haines.
She was an avid bowler and for many years was a member of Tannersville Public Health.
She was predeceased by her husband Alexander Shultz in 1989 and by three brothers, Harold Haines of Haines Falls, Leonard Haines of Albany, and Arnold Haines of Waterbury, Conn.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda L. Shultz of Haines Falls and three nephews; Richard Haines, Bruce Haines, and Robert Haines of Connecticut, as well as several cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Aston Basagic Funeral Home, Main Street, Hunter. Officiating will be the Rev. Gregory Ferriss.
Interment will follow in the Haines Falls Methodist Cemetery.

Catskill—Rose Alma Arnold, 69, of 183 Main St., Catskill, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002 at Albany Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 18, 1933, in Cementon, the daughter of the late William and Clennie (Johnson) O’Neill.
Mrs. Arnold was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Catskill. She was a garment worker for many years at Adamo Dress Company prior to her retirement. She was predeceased by a son, Ivery Lee “Sonny Boy” Arnold; a sister Clara Ward, whom she raised as a daughter, and a brother John O’Neil.
Mrs. Arnold is survived by two daughters, Arlene Feliz and Mary Arnold, both of Catskill; a son Joseph O’Neil of Catskill; a brother William O’Neil Jr. of Aurora, Colo.; and six grandchildren, Jimmie, Malana, Shonieke, Derrell, ShaQuashia and Tiarra.
Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at the United Methodist Church, Woodland Avenue, Catskill. The Rev. Richard Turpin, pastor, Second Baptist will be officiating. Interment will be in the Town of Catskill Cemetery.

Catskill—Otto Frederick Mayr, 43, a peer advocate for Capital District Center for Independence, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002 at Albany Medical Center. Mr. Mayr lived in Rensselaer and was previously from Catskill.
He is survived by George Mayr (brother), John Mayr (brother) Joseph Brunner (brother), Rose Sledzianowski (sister) Dona Mayr (sister), Steven Komaromi (nephew), Daniel Mayr (nephew), Gregory Mayr (nephew), Jacob Brunner (nephew), Joseph Brunner, Jr. (nephew), Malinda Komaromi (niece), all of Catskill; Francis Lackie (aunt), of Cairo; Helen Castle (aunt) of Gilboa, N.Y.; Genevier Bitter (aunt) of Kingston; Catherine Mangenilli (aunt) of Albany; Otto Mayr (uncle), John Brunner (stepfather), both of Catskill; Susanne Shelto (girlfriend).
He was preceeded in death by his father George Mayr in 1964, and his mother Catherine Smith Brunner on Sept. 12, 2002.
He was born June 3, 1959 in Catskill, the son of the late George and Charlotte Smith Mayr, Brunner. He was a 1977 graduate of Catskill High School and in 1979 was a victim of an accident resulting in permanent spinal cord damage. Following rehabilitation, he worked at the New York State Library as a clerk from 1981 to 1995 when he continued his formal education at Hudson Valley Community College and SUNY Albany. He earned an Associate in Science Degree from Hudson Valley Community College in 1998 as well as an Academic Award for Achievement, The Hazel Hayes Atwater Scholarship for Excellence, Certificate of Excellence Award for Scholastic Achievement and Personal enrichment, and Semester Honors Convocation Award. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Sociology in 2000 from SUNY Albany and made the Dean’s List of each college every semester he attended. He made presentations of Hudson Valley Community College regarding “Disabilities in the Workplace and College Arena” and at Rehabilitation Support Services in Albany regarding “Gaining a Sense of Self-Worth.” He was employed by the Capital District Center for Independence as a peer advocate prior to his hospitalization in July.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 15, 2002 at 8 p.m. at Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill. The Rev. Pittsfield, Mass.—Rita Rose Squires, 73, formerly of 31 Bradford St., Pittsfield, died in the morning Nov. 12, 2002 at Albany Medical Center. She had lived most of her life in Pittsfield.
Born Nov. 18, 1928, a daughter of Richard and Marjorie Sigsworth Doyle, she attended Pittsfield Public Schools.
She was a homemaker and a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church. Her husband, Edward A. Squires, died May 22, 1996.
Mrs. Squires is survived by three sons; Jerome F. and Kenneth R., Squires, both of Durham, and Stephen E. Squires of Albany; daughter Evelyn Squires of Catskill; four brothers, John Doyle of Cheshire, David Doyle of Lanesborough, Richard Doyle of Bristol, Conn., and James Doyle of Miami Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Katherine Bourchard, Gertrude Brister and Ruth Jones, all of Pittsfield; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Linda Rebenold, late of New Jersey, died July 17, 1979.
Mrs. Squires was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Doyle, and two sisters, Lillian Miller and Margaret Doyle.

Coxsackie—Paul D. Ward, 64, of the Village of Coxsackie, died Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 13, 2002 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Mr. Ward was born June 19, 1938, in Moravia, N.Y., to the late George and Edna Ward.
He was married on Oct. 25, 1980 in Coxsackie to Christine Greene Ward, who survives at home.
He served our nation during the years of the Vietnam War in the U. S. Navy Submarine Corps.
A resident of Coxsackie for more than 30 years, Mr. Ward was an electrician at Coxsackie Correctional Facility, retiring June 23, 1993.
In addition to this wife, survivors include two stepdaughters: Debra DuHart and her husband Ron of Earlton and Francine Sutton and her husband Paul of Coxsackie; a brother Keith Ward of West Coxsackie; two sisters, Sharon Harris and her husband Edward of Freeville, N. Y., and Patricia Grays and her husband George of Sidney; five grandchildren, Justin, Michael, and Philip DuHart, and Vanessa and Lisa McDemott.
Mr. Ward was predeceased by his brother Garth Ward.
Private graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. Wendy Steed, at Riverside Cemetery, Coxsackie, at the convenience of the family.

Catskill—Gladys M. Carle Beare, 94, of Catskill, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002 at the Columbia-Greene Long Term Care in Catskill. She was born July 26, 1908 in Kiskatom, the daughter of the late Nelson and Mamie (Duncan) Morey.
Ms. Beare was the co-proprietor of Carl’s Furniture Store on West Bridge Street, Catskill, prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Catskill and Catskill Senior Fellowship. Mrs. Beare was a long time volunteer and past president of the Greene County Memorial Hospital Hospitality Group. She was predeceased by her first husband, Charles E. Carl jr., on Feb. 6, 1955, her second husband, James G. Beare on Oct. 9, 1990; four sons, George E. Carl, Frederick W. Carl, Richard W. Carl and James E. Carl; six sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Beare is survived by three daughters. Katherin Alfonsin and husband William of Leeds, Mamie Van Valkenburgh and husband George of Catskill, Paula Incerpi and husband Robert of Bonita Springs, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Barbara Roberts and husband William of West Coxsackie and Mary Roe and husband Richard of Catskill; two sisters, Vera Ackley and Evelyn Beatty, both of Cambridge; 109 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Freehold—Surrounded by his loving family, Ralph W. Herron, 86, of Cairo entered into his heavenly home on Nov. 14, 2002 at his residence at 309 Route 41, Freehold. He was born in Harrington Park, N. J., on Nov. 8, 1916; he was the son of the late William and Isabel Farley Herron.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 62 years, Ruth P. Mills Herron. He is the devoted father and father-in-law of Ralph H. and Patricia A. Herron of Ballston Lake, Ronald J. and Linda J. Herron of Freehold, and Lynn R. and William S. Freeman of Glen Aubery. Grandchildren include Debora L. Martin of Woodbridge, Va., Jeffery A. Herron of Freehold, Craig M. Herron of Kenmore, Stacy M. Herron of Albany and William S. Freeman of Chicago. He was also the great-grandfather of Curtis and Kathryn Martin and Katie, Quinn, Jacob and Nya Herron and the step-great-grandfather to Sonsia Court. He was the loving uncle of Walter W. Nevard of Englewood, Fla., and Timothy Herles of Ventura, Calif. Additionally, he is survived by his sister-in-law Helen Herles and an extended family of friends and neighbors that will dearly miss him. He was predeceased by his sister Ruth Nevard.
Mr. Herron began his career teaching specialized welding for Curtis Wright Propellor during World War II but later became a carpenter. He served as president of the Catskill local but finished his working years as a member of Albany’s local 370. In his work he served as superintendent and master craftsman on numerous building projects including some of the Albany and Binghamton SUNY buildings and the Columbia-Greene Hospital expansion projects.
His may interests included golf, gardening, reading and spending the winter months in the Englewood, Fla., area. As an active member of the Calvary Episcopal Church in Cairo, he involved himself in upkeep and preservation of the church structures.
He was a 32 degree mason and past master of Kedemah Lodge 693 Cairo and received the Dedicated Service Award in 1983. He served as a Patron of the Eastern Star Cairo chapter 380 and was a member of the Greene County Shrine Club. Mr. Herron also served two terms on the Board of Education for the Cairo School District.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002 from 2 to 4 and 7 to o9 p.m. at Richards Funeral Home, 383 Bross St., Cairo. Eastern Star and Masonic Ceremonies will be conducted at 7:30 and 8 p.m. respectively.
A service celebrating his life will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church with Rev. John Miller officiating. On Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002 at 2 p.m. Interment services following cremation will be held at a later date.

Syracuse—The New York Publishers Association announces, with deep regret, the passing of Stephen Rogers of the Syracuse Newspapers. Mr. Rogers was president of the Syracuse Newspapers until his death Tuesday at age 90. He also served as president of the New York Publishers Association and vice chairman of the New York Newspapers Foundation.
He is survived by his wife Athenia, and their children, including Stephen A. Rogers, who serves a publisher of the Syracuse Newspapers and as a director of the New York Newspaper Publishers Association.

Windham—Irene E. Triambuck, 64, of East Jewett died on Friday, Nov. 15, 2002 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
She was born Sept. 20, 1938 in Hungary. She was the daughter of the late Julius and the late Julia Yakob. Mrs. Triambuck resided in East Jewett with her husband since 1996, moving from Long Island.
Mrs. Triambuck was a devout Christian. Along with her husband Ramalingam, Mrs. Triambuck is survived by a daughter, Maya Carl of Leeds. She was the grandmother of Christopher and Robert. Mrs. Triambuck was a homemaker.
Along with enjoying her family, she was an antique collector and enjoyed traveling. She loved classical music and the opera.
Service will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002 at the Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main St., Windham with the Rev. Robert Barnum officiating. Interment will follow in the Triambuck Family Cemetery in East Jewett.

Greenville—Mary Turon, 90, of Greenville, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002 at the Hospice Inn, St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
She was born in Bayonne, N. J., on July 21, 1912, daughter of the late George and Mary Turon.
During World War II, she worked at General Electric in Schenectady, as a drill press operator.
Following the war, she transferred to their Advertising and Sales Promotion Dept. where she held various clerical positions until her retirement in 1972.
She always liked to garden, bake, sew, crochet and knit. She hared her many gifts and talents with family friends. She will be missed by all.
Survivors include her sisters and brother, Helen Koch, of Schenectady, Ruth Birmann of Schroon Lake, Elsie Turon, and Martha Turon of Greenville, and many loved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers and a sister; George Charles, Joseph and Mildred Turon, three nephews, John, Gary, and Kenneth Turon, and a niece, Janice (Jansen) Donovan.
Calling hours will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.

Alyce Lorraine Grassi-Mulvaney Former Woman Ordinance Worker
Albany—Alyce Lorraine Grassi-Mulvaney entered into her heavenly rest on Nov. 18, 2002 in Albany after a lifetime battle with a debilitating disease. Her family was blessed to be with her as she went to be with the Lord and is comforted with the assurance that she truly is in a better place.
Mrs. Grassi-Mulvaney was born June 15, 1924 in Weehawken, N. Y., the daughter of the late Alice E. Magle and the late George H. Winters, Sr. During World War II, Alyce served her country by joining thousands of other women on the assembly line as a Woman Ordinance Worker. She later became a wife, mother and homemaker.
Mrs. Grassi-Mulvaney spent her later years in Tampa, Fla. where before her confinement she regularly served n the local Baptist church.
She is survived by her husband Willard Mulvaney, son Thomas A. Grassi of Kittery, Maine, daughter Sheron L. Gaspar of South Westerlo, N.Y., sisters Jann Moak of Gastonia, N. C. and Carolyn Dearstyne of Oklahoma city, Okla; brothers George H. Winters, Jr. of Port Richey, Fla, and Timothy P. Winters of Poughkeepsie, as well as 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Francis P. McGrath Corrections Officer
Francis P. “Frank” McGrath, 64, of Coxsackie, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, N. Y.
A veteran of the US Navy, he was born in the Bronx on July 31, 1938, the son of Francis P. and Theresa McGowan McGrath.
A corrections officer for 30 years, Frank retired in 2000 from Greene Correctional Facility in Coxsackie. During his career, he also worked at Coxsackie Correctional Facility, Sing Sing Prison and Bedford Hills Correctional.
Mr. McGrath was a communicant of St. Mary’s RC Church in Coxsackie, a member of the National Rifle Association and the Coxsackie Sportsman Club. He was also an avid volunteer at St. Patrick’s Academy in Catskill.
Frank, who loved his family, boating and swimming, is survived by his wife, Eleanor Hourihan McGrath of Coxsackie; two daughters and their husbands, Eleanor and Bruce Troy of Rhinebeck; and Mary and Jeff Boehm of Climax; a sister, Irene Castle of Red Hook; a brother and sister-in-law Robert and Nora McGrath of Pearl River; and five grandchildren, Erin, Clare, and Patrick Troy of Rhinebeck, Hanna and Aiden Boehm of Climax. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins and extended family members also survive.
A mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, at St. Mary’s RC Church, 80 Mansion St. in Coxsackie. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Coxsackie.

Margaret Florence Mistler Registered Nurse
South Westerlo—Margaret Florence Mistler, 68, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, at her home.
She was the daughter of the late Wendell and Mabel Wilcox. She was born in the Town of Granby, near Fulton, N. Y. She was the wife of 46 years to Frank Mistler.
Mrs. Mistler graduated in 1956 from Crouse Irving Hospital in Syracuse as a registered nurse.
She worked from 1968 to 1990 in the Greenville School District. From 1974 to 1900 she was the school nurse in the junior-senior high school.
Mrs. Mistler is the mother of Theresa (Roger) Barrowman of Glenmont, John Mistler of Greenville, Mary (Nick (Ferguson) Mistler of Slingerlands, Wayne Mistler of Catskill, and Steven (Tracy) Mistler of Greenville. She had 17 grandchildren, Benjamin Robert, Bethany, and William Barrowman, Nichole and Danielle Mistler, Joshua, Gloria, Jessica and Stephanie Bouillon, Connie, Scott and Monica Mistler-Ferguson, Julia, Lucas, Sierra and the later Daniel Mistler.
Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 23 at South Westerlo Congregational Church, 282 county Route 405, South Westerlo, N. Y. 12083. There will be visitation at 1 p.m, and a memorial service 2 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the South Westerlo Congregation Church.

Jeffrey Dean ‘J.J.’ Stiles, Jr.
Cortland—Jeffrey Dean ‘J. J.’ Stiles, Jr., aged 3 years, son of Jeffrey and Cindra Stiles of Cortland, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Nov. 17. He was born Nov. 13, 1999 in Cortland.
Surviving are his parents, his grandparents Edward and Gwendolyn Stiles of Cortland, Robert and Judy Swartwout of Cortland, great-grandparents Lee (Trudy) Cunningham of Greenville, aunt Kellie Turner, uncles John (Bethany) Stiles, Michael (Kimberly) Swartwout, Bruce Turner and several great aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20 at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Cortland. Funeral service will be private. Contributions in Mr. Stiles name can be directed to Perrit LaPinto, Franziska Racker Center, 882, Rt. 13, Cortland, N. Y. 13045.

Donald J. Snyder Pool Maintenance Supervisor
Donald J. Snyder, 64, of Earlton, NY, passed away at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY. on Nov. 18, 2002. He was born in Manhattan on Oct. 3, 1938, the son of James and Edythe (Frasse) Girvan.
He was employed by the Town of Hempstead for 24 years as Pool Maintenance Supervisor and more recently for the Greenville Central School District as a custodian. He enjoyed the outdoors and retired to concentrate on hunting and fishing.
He was also a mason in good standing of the Ark Lodge, #48 F & A. M. in Coxsackie.
Surviving are his wife Karen (Kinns) Snyder; his children, Deborah Wood and her husband Warren of Spring Hill, Florida; Therese Thanhauser and her husband James of Mastic Beach, Katherin Moran and her husband Robert of Clearwater, Florida, and Donald F. Snyder of Naponoch; his step children Lorraine Dama and her husband Alfonso of Old Bridge, NJ., Kevin Burke and his wife JoAnn of Baldwin, Denis Burke of Newark, Delaware, Pattie Costa and her husband Joseph of Newnan, Georgia, Elaina Cross of Scotia, and Mindy Case of Preston Hollow; his brother Russell Girvan and his wife Pat of Massapequa; and his nieces Karyn and Susan Girvan. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He will be missed by his “little girl.”
Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002 at 1 p.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, N.Y. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, Nov. 20, for 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery. Carl A. Tallarico Art Restorer
Carl A. “Rick” Tallarico, 75, of Freehold, NY., passed away at the Columbia Memorial Hospital on Nov. 17, 2002. He was born in New York City on Feb. 23, 1927, son of the date Domanick and Filomina (Guzzi) Tallarico.
He served in the US Navy and was retired art restorer, having worked for the Metropolitan Museum of New York City.
Surviving are his wife Nancy (Specioso) Tallarico; two sons, Dean Tallarico and his wife Angela of Freehold, and Carl D. Tallarico of Acra; a granddaughter Maria Sargent; a sister Rachel Tallarico of Valley Stream; and a brother Domanick Tallarico of Raonkonkoma.
As to his wishes cremation was at the Albany Rural Cemetery. Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Ann D. Wells Community Hospice Volunteer
Ann Dorothy Wells, 58, of Willowbrook Farm Rd, Est. in Catskill, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born March 19, 1944 in Brooklyn, NY, she is the daughter of William and Anna (Larsen) Wells.
She was a volunteer of the Community Hospice of Columbia/Greene. Survivors include her daughters, Linda Michela of Phoenicia and Lisa Gardell of Hudson; sons Charles Gardell of South Ozone Park, James Gardell of Ravena, and Christopher Gardell of Catskill; brothers Dana Wells of New Jersey and Mark Wells of Hawaii, sister Kathleen Wells of Staten Island; grandchildren Christina and Joseph Michela, Keith, Charles Jr., Sarah, Adam, Ian, Ashley, and Victoria Gardell, and Curtis Segura. She was predeceased by her husband John Utter, and a brother William Wells.
A mass of Christian Burial will be served Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002 at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick’s’ Catholic Church in Catskill. Entombment will be in Wiltwick Cemetery Kingston. Arrangements are with Bates and Anderson-Redmond Keeler Funeral Home in Hudson, NY.
