Fla.--- Diane C. Herman, 64, of Starkey Road, Largo, and former Catskill area
resident, died Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at the Bayfront Medical Center in St.
Petersburg, Fla.
Born
Aug 14, 1941 in Catskill, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Catherine
Jones LaBuff.
Mrs.
Herman graduated from Catskill High School in 1959.
She
moved to Florida in 1988.
Mrs.
Herman was the dining room supervisor at Freedom Square Home in Seminole, Fla.
Survivors
include her husband of 35 years, David Herman of Largo; a son, Scott Clearly of
Cairo; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Catherine and Chad Counhian of
Jacksonville, Fla., Christine and John Pilatich of Catskill and Annamarie Herman
of Largo; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Susan LaBuff of Catskill; two
sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and Frank Morelli of Largo and Linda and
Frank Pocoroba of Cairo; six grandchildren, Joshua, Angela, Nikole, Peter, Tyler
and Emily; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A
memorial service will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Traver & McCurry
Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.
Graveside
services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Catskill
with Deacon Michael MacDonald officiating.
Memorial
contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Envelopes are
available at the funeral home.

HOLLOW--- Walter J. Boland, 80, of Preston Hollow, Albany County, and formerly
of Rockaway Beach, Queens County, died Friday, April 28, 2006, at home.
Born
Oct. 1, 1925, he was the son of the late Patrick and Mary McPolin Boland.
Mr.
Boland was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy.
He
was a sergeant for the N.Y.P.D., retiring after 30 years of service.
Mr.
Boland was a communicant of Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham and was also
an avid hunter and enjoyed nature.
Survivors
include his wife of 51 years, Patricia; four daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen
and Donald Waldman, Caryn and Charlie Strining, Tina and Jeff Neilsen and Claire
and David Palmer; two sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Irene Boland and
Terence and Dawn Boland; and twelve grandchildren, Andrew Boland Wennerstrom,
Lisa and Eric Waldman, Cristin and Ryan Strining, Paige Boland and Andrew and
Eric Kaufer, Kiara, Patrick and Sean Neilsen and Gavin Boland.
He
was predeceased by two brothers, John and Vincent.
Calling
hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Cunningham Funeral Home,
4898 State Route 81, Greenville.
A
funeral service will be held 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home followed by
a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Knock Shrine.
Interment
will be in the Potter Hollow Cemetery.

Alfred Hoffman, 77, of Hannacroix, died Sunday, April 30, 2006, at St. Peter’s
Hospice in Albany after a long illness.
Born
June 18, 1928 in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of the late Bessie Conklin
Hoffman.
During
his lifetime, he was employed as a painter.
He
also enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and all other sports.
Survivors
include three brothers, John Salamak of Pennsylvania, Richard Salamak of
Astoria, Queens County, and Peter Salamak of Hannacroix; and many nieces,
nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He
was predeceased by his sister, Frances Salamak, in 2004.
Memorial
services will take place at a later date.
Private
cremation will take place Tuesday at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.
Memorial

at his residence in Purling, on Dec. 24, 2005.

M. Wilshusen, 94, of Athens, died May 2, 2006, at Eden Park Health Care Center,
Catskill, after a long illness.
She
was born in Brooklyn, April 25, 1912, and was the daughter of the late Fred and
Teresa (Kaerney) Wilshusen.
Rosemary
has been an area resident for the last six years. Prior to her retirement, she
was a legal secretary for Duerr, Strong and Whitehead, Attorneys at Law in New
York City. She was called the Pied Piper of Children. She was very gentle and
loved all children. She supported her family at the age of 14, in her earlier
years in life. She was known as her
family historian. She loved to play bingo at the Immaculate Conception Church in
the Bronx, and she also loved to do fine crocheting.
She
is survived by a sister, Evelyn R. Sirico, of Athens, and many nieces,
Relatives
and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at the W.C. Brady’s
Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie, on Tuesday, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Interment
will follow in the family plot of the Evergreen Cemetery, Brooklyn.

St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Coxsackie.

Yzquierdo, 52, of Brinks Lane, died suddenly Saturday, April 29, 2006, at
Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born
Feb. 2, 1954, in Forest Hills, Queens, he was the son of the late Mario and
Adele Cruset Yzquierdo, Sr.
He
was employed as a teacher’s aide at the Mother Cabrini Home in West Park,
making an impact on the lives of many troubled young children. He had a special
place in his heart for all young children. His devotion didn’t end there.
Those who knew him will forever remember his generosity, sense of humor, gift
for story telling, and his ability to lift the spirits of others. Mario was a
friend to all and will be missed by anyone whose life he touched.
He
loved sports, was a big Yankee fan, and enjoyed skiing, and the simple beauty of
nature.
Mr.
Yzquierdo was a well-known area musician who played the guitar in many bands
over his long musical career, beginning with his first band at the age of 14. He
played guitar in a well-known bank called Red Wing. IN 1982, he joined the Paul
Luke Band. It was in this band, as the charismatic lead guitarist and vocalist,
that he excelled and developed his style of music. In 1994, he had the privilege
of playing at the Woodstock Music Festival. He joined the local band No Limit in
1996 and played gigs with them to date.
He
was an organ donor after his death, so that others may be helped.
Survivors
include his wife, Annie Dennin Yzquierdo whom he meet in 1974 and married June
24, 1989; they were best friends for 32 years;
A
sister and brother-in-law, Alisa and Mitchell Chesler; nieces Julia and Emily of
Forest Hills; three sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law; and several aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In
addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Mary C. Dennin,
and brothers-in-law, Jack and Michael Dennin.
Calling
hours will be 2 p.m. at the George J. Moylan Funeral Home, Inc., Route 32,
Rosendale.
A
memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the
Rev. Arlene Dawber officiating.
Cremation was private at Wiltwyck Cemetery in Kingston.

Ana V. Cunningham, 80, of Round Top, passed away peacefully in her sleep on
April 20, 2006 at Lauderdale by the Sea in Florida.
She
was born Sept. 17, 1925 in Greenwich Village, the daughter of the late John and
Antoinette (Manfredonia) Pauzano.
Survivors
include her husband, James K. Cunningham of Round Top; her sisters, Frances
DiGiacomo of New Jersey, Norma B. Bodratti (retired Postmaster of Round Top);
nephews, Anthony J. DiGiacomo of California, James DiGiacomo of New Jersey,
Robert P. Bodratti of Valatie, Ronald J. Bodratti of Hilton, Louis Pauzano of
Long Island; a niece, Anette Muszynski of Connecticut; two step-daughters, Gail
Rasmussen Morgan of Texas, Noel Aureguy of California; and many other relatives
and friends.
Anna
was affectionately known as “Bae” to her family and friends.
She
was a graduate of St. Anthony’s secretarial academy. She was employed at the
executive office of The Simmons Co., retiring in 1978, as an Executive
Bookkeeper.
Anna
had been an area resident of Round Top since 1979. She ran the gift shop in the
Round Top General Store for many years, and was also a receptionist at the
Winter Clove Inn in Round Top. She was a communicant of the Sacred Heart Church
in Cairo, and a life member of the Round Top Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies
Auxiliary.
For
many years, she and her husband, James, spent the winters at their Florida
residence. She was a skillful poker player who enjoyed an occasional day at the
casino.
Anna
was outgoing with a caring personality, and will be sorely missed by her family
and friends.
Mass
was held at the Church of The Assumption in Florida, on April 25, 2006.
Entombment
took place at the Shrine of Memories at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale on April
28, 2006.
Contributions

Susan Sullivan (Armstrong), 72, died May 3, 2006 at St. Peter’s Hospital after
a brief illness.
Sue
was born August 22, 1933, in Albany, the daughter of the late Dorothy and James
Armstrong. She graduated from the Milne school in 1951.
She
was an outstanding cook and few things gave her greater pleasure than taking
charge of holiday and family meals. She also delighted in her regular reunion
meetings with her Milne classmates and her annual summer trip to Maine with the
girls: Marcia, Mar, Betty, and Jane.
Sue
is predeceased by her son, John Scott, survived by her daughter, Sharon (Joseph)
Frisbee of Coxsackie; her sons, Peter (Debbie) Scott of North Huntingdon, PA,
and Frederick (Ann) Hinrichsen of Coxsackie. Other survivors include her sister,
Marcia (Robert) Luther of Albany and her recently discovered half-sister, Dianne
(Darryl) Waddell of Colonie; grandchildren, Jennifer (Joel) Dubois, Bryan
Frisbee, Katelyn Frisbee, Shannon Scott, Nicole Scott, John Scott, Matthew Scott
and Natalie Hinrichsen; great-grandchildren, Charlotte Dubois, Connor Scott and
numerous nieces, nephews, dear cousins and friends.

Home in Philmont after a long illness.
She
was born in Tivoli on April 7, 1909, the daughter of the late Frederick and
Marie (Renz) Althiser.
Kathryn
has been a resident of Philmont and a communicant of St. Mark’s Episcopal
Church for over 80 years. She enjoyed doing crafts at the church.
She
was employed by the Rolin Knitting Mills.
Besides
her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles, and three sisters,
Carmen Gierisch, Nellie Laraway and Ethel Radewitz.
She
is survived by two daughters, Jean West and Joan Caggianelli, both of Philmont;
eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Relatives

Health Care Center, where she had been a patient since March 4, 2003.
Mrs.
Smith was born in Catskill on April 21, 1911, to the late George and Sara Van
Alystne Wagner.
She
was formerly an office clerk and the wife of the late Clarence Ira Smith who
predeceased her on May 7, 1971.
She
is survived by two sons, David R. Smith of Ithaca and Clarence A. Smith of
Catskill; two daughters-in-law, Karen Smith of Ithaca and Pearl Smith of
Catskill; three grandchildren, Darcy Hoffman of Plymouth, N.H., Barbara Beck of
Catskill and David Smith of Catskill; two great-grandchildren, Leah and Garrett
Hoffman; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She
was predeceased by three brothers, George, Albert and Abram Wagner.
Private
cremation was conducted on Saturday at the Albany Rural Crematorium under the
direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in
Catskill.

Elizabeth Corrado, 86, died Monday, May 8, 2006, at home.
Born
March 15, 1920 in Corona, Queens, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary
Calabrese Percio.
Mrs.
Corrado was employed as a seamstress and trimmer for Miranda’s Dress Factory
in Saugerties.
She
was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Palenville and past president of the
Altar Rosary Society at Sacred Heart.
Mrs.
Corrado was a former member of the Catholic Daughters, the Saugerties
Columbiettes, the Blue Army and the Catskill Senior Citizens Club.
Survivors
include three daughters, Carol Ann Cooke, Annette Perry and Susan Corrado, all
of Saugerties; her son, Anthony Corrado of Saugerties; 12 grandchildren; and 11
great-grandchildren.
She
was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Corrado, on April 30, 1969; a daughter,
Julia; and a grandson, Richard Stamp.

She
was born July 1, 1961, in Red Hook, and was the daughter of the late Susan A.
Stickel.
Claire
is a high school graduate of the Red Hook Central School District. During her
employment, Claire held several positions as a cashier.
Survivors
include her son, Ian Hanway and his wife, Melanie, of Round Top, and two
grandsons, William and Jordan Hanway of Round Top.
Besides
her parents, she is predeceased by her brother, Karl Stickel.
Funeral
arrangements are under the direction of the Richards Funeral Home, Bross Street,
Cairo.
Private
cremation took place at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.
Interment
of her remains will take place on Saturday, May 13, 2006, at 11 a.m., at the St.
Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, 61 South Broadway, in Red Hook, with the Rev. Retta
Lykens of the Cairo and South Cairo United Methodist Church, officiating.

WELLSBORO,
Pa.--- Dorothy Borden Heyler, 85, died on Monday, May 8, 2006 at the Daughters
of Sarah Nursing Home in Albany, New York from the complications of
Alzheimer’s disease.
Born
Dorothy Marleta Borden in Ulysses, Pa., daughter of Theodore Sperry Borden and
Grace Early Borden, she majored in music at Mansfield State Teacher’s College,
where she was a member of Lamda Mu honorary music sorority.
She
met Romayn F. Heyler in college, and they were married for more than 50 years.
She
enjoyed a distinguished career as a church choir director and piano teacher in
Wilmington, Del., and was a member of the Delaware Music Teacher’s
Association. She also played cello in several symphony orchestras and taught
public school music in Harrison Valley, Pa. and Roxbury, NY.
The Heylers lived for years in the Oneonta-Cooperstown area, where Mrs. Heyler was a member of Glimmerglass Opera Theater Chorus, the Audubon Society, the North American Bluebird Society and local gardening and historical societies. Mr. Heyler worked in the banking industry and was vice president of Deak National Bank in Fleischmanns, NY. He had served as a pilot in World War II and was awarded the Navy Cross and Distinguished Flying Cross.
Mrs.
Heyler is survived by two brothers, Arthur Borden (& Audrey) of Lewisburg,
Pa., and Charles Borden (& Marlea) of Bridger, Mt., as well as three
children: Frederick Heiler (& Lynn) of Saddle River, NJ; Dorayne Heyler of
Adelphi, Md.; and Annette Boprey (& Christopher) of Ravena. She also has
five grandchildren, Joshua Osborne (& Marianne), Tara Ward (& Michael),
Dorayne Boprey (& Charles McKern), Derek Boprey, and Timothy Heiler.
A
viewing will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, at St. Paul’s United
Methodist Church in Nauvoo, Pa., followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Flowers

Hospital, Albany.
She
was born in Trenton, N.J., March 7, 1925, and was the daughter of the late
Dominick and Catherine (Scarponi) DeAngelo.
She
was a communicant of the Sacred Heart Church of Cairo, has been an area resident
for the last 25 years, and she loved to cook and crochet.
She
is survived by her husband of 60 years, Rocco E. Nasso, of Leeds; a son, Richard
E. Nasso of Cairo; a daughter, Jeanie Matiz of Staten Island; two brothers,
Dominick and Richard DeAngelo, both of New Jersey. Also surviving are three
grandchildren, Richard, Jr., Jennifer, and Madeline, and also two
great-grandchildren, Rocco R. and Ella.

Edna
Lake Smith died on Nov. 16, 2005. Her husband, Richard Henry Smith, passed away
on Feb. 16th of this year. A combined memorial service was held for Richard and
Edna at Cloverdale Funeral Home in Boise last Dec. 3rd followed by a
social gathering at the Cloverdale Reception Center. Another service was held
for the inurnment this spring in Donnelly at the Finn Cemetery. The services
were under the direction of the Cloverdale Funeral Home.
Edna
was born in Deer Island, OR on Oct. 21, 1915. She was the youngest of 12
children. Her parents, John Lahti and Hilda Koskella, were both born in Finland.
In 1888, they immigrated to America where they met and were married in Red
Lodge, Montana. Edna’s 3 brothers and 8 sisters were born in Montana and Idaho
at various farming and logging communities. She was born while her family was
living on a farm along the Columbia River. In 1923, Edna and her family moved to
Long Valley in Idaho, where her parents had lived on and off since 1895. She
attended school in McCall for most of her youth and graduated from the then new,
Donnelly High School in May of 1935. She went on to the University of Idaho for
a couple of years and then transferred to Syracuse University in 1939, where she
majored in Art Education. She became a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority
and Pi Lambda Theta, the National Education Honorary. Edna graduated with honors
in 1943.
While
living in upstate New York, Eddi met the man who would become the love of her
life, Richard Henry Smith. He was going to school at the New York State Ranger
School in Wanakena and would soon after join the U.S. Navy. Richard and Edna
were married on April 4, 1944 in the Chapel at the Naval Air Station in
Pensacola, Florida while he was in flight training there.
They
lived in St. Augustine for a while and then moved to Guernewood Park, Calif.,
until Richard was sent to Hawaii with his squadron, at which time, Eddi went to
live with her sister in Boise, Idaho. While Dick was off fighting the war, Edna
went to work for C.C. Anderson, which is now Macy’s.
After
the war was over, they went to live in Prattsville, the town where Richard was
born and raised. Edna taught art in the New York City School System for the next
15 years while Dick became the town’s postmaster, a position he held until
retiring in 1970. After retiring, they moved back to Edna’s beloved Idaho and
she would call it home for the remainder of her life. Eddi would have three
children with Richard and they raised their kids in the small Catskill mountain
town. She adored her kids and her kids adored her. Her students loved her too.
She was a devoted teacher and a wonderful mother. She was an accomplished artist
whose drawings and paintings will be cherished for all time. She lived to ski
and go camping, and she loved to travel. For several years, Edna and Dick lived
in their motor home and toured the states-all of them. For many years, they
lived in Idaho and wintered in Arizona.
Edna
was family oriented. She was deeply connected to her roots and the family she
came from, and she recreated that bond with the family that she bore. She will
be remembered for her devotion to her God and her family and she will be sorely
missed.

loved collecting baseball cards and coins. He enjoyed playing billiards and
darts, and was an avid New York Yankee fan, and also loved the art of
woodworking.
He
is survived by his wife of 24 years, Sharon Marchesani; daughter, Melissa
Marchesani and her fiancé Wayne Moore; sons, Matthew, Edmund and Benjamin
Marchesani; two grandsons, Sebastian Garber and Lakota Moore, both of Catskill;
five brothers, Thomas, Frank, Salvatore, Robert and Kenneth Marchesani; a

was born Oct 15, 1920 in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late August and Helen (Nickloff)
Schupinsky.
Amelia
grew up in Leeds, where her mother and father owned and operated the Shady Rest
Resort and Boardinghouse, a tourist retreat in the 1930’s.
Amelia
attended the Leeds School and was a graduate of Catskill High School. She
entered the U.S. Navy during World War II in 1942, and was one of the first
WAVES.
Amelia
met and married her husband, John Pollutro, in 1944. They were married for 56
years before John died in 2000.
Amelia
was a postal clerk for 24 years, then Postmaster for 15 years at the Leeds Post
Office.
She
sang in the Treble Choraliers during the 1950’s.
Amelia
was the former president of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of
Catskill, member of the Honeyford Memorial Post 110 American Legion, former
Matron and member of the Catskill Chapter No. 293 Order of the Eastern Star
since 1964, and member and former deacon and elder of the Leeds Reformed Church.
Mrs.
Pollutro is survived by a daughter, Helen DeSawal and husband, Robert, of
Bloomington, Ind., and a granddaughter, Danielle DeSawal, of Bloomington, Ind.

Carol Marie Atkins Ventura, 80, of Athens, died Sunday, May 14, 2006, after a
short illness and with her family beside her.
Born
Feb. 14, 1926 in Ellenville, She was the daughter of Mary Schoonmaker Atkins and
Bert Atkins.
She
grew up in Kingston and moved to Athens 52 years ago when she was married.
Mrs.
Ventura was a homemaker.
Before
marriage, she worked at the Hercules Power Co., the New York Telephone Co.,
Central Hudson Gas and Electric and she was also a florist.
Mrs.
Ventura was an avid singer and music lover. She was a member of church choirs in
Kingston and Athens and was also an a-cappella singer. She belonged to the
Treble Choraliers for a period of time.
Most
recently, she was a member of the First Reformed Church of Athens choir. She was
also a member of The Lady Elks in Catskill.
She
was also an accomplished artist. She filled the walls of her family’s house
with beautiful oil paintings that she created.
Mrs.
Ventura and her husband, Anthony, enjoyed many years of camping at Lake Lucerne
during their retirement. Her husband of 52 years survives at home.
Survivors,
in addition to her husband, include two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah
Ventura and Robert Weisheit of Selkirk, Albany County and Kathy Ventura of
Coxsackie; a brother, Albert Atkins of Hurley; two step-brothers, Art and
Bernard Keidcamp of Kingston; four grandchildren, Roseanne Ruvolo of Alcove,
Albany County, Margarite Kennedy of Greenville, and Lianne and Matthew Weisheit
of Selkirk; and three great-grandchildren.
She
was predeceased by her sister, Emily Osterhuodt; and a brother, Roland.

most of her time was spent at home caring for her children and family.

CATSKILL--- Thomas MacDonald III, age 64 of Route 23, Acra, died Sunday, January 1, 2006 at Albany Medical Center. He was born in Little Rock, Big Rock County, Arkansas, on July 20, 1941, the first child of Thomas and Gladys (Bermingham) MacDonald, Jr.
Mr.
MacDonald was a retired public school teacher and New York State Correctional
Teacher, Program Administrator, and former U.S. Air Force Officer. Thomas
retired from the NYS Dept. of Correctional Services in July 1996. He later
worked part-time and cared for his aging parents.
Early in his career, Thomas served four years active duty as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force in the specialty of aircraft maintenance, which included one year of service in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. He earned a B.A. Degree in History at SUNY at Buffalo, a M.S. Degree in Elementary Education at SUNY at Oneonta, and a certificate from the U.S. Air Force Aircraft Maintenance Officer’s School at Chanute AFB in Illinois. He took additional course work at Columbia-Greene Community College, SUNY at Albany, College of St. Rose, and SUNY at New Paltz.
Mr. MacDonald taught a number of subject areas and held several NYS permanent teaching certifications. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, New York State United Teachers, New York State Professional Employees Federation (PEF), and New York State Retired Public Employees Association.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Arlene Joyce (Pousont) MacDonald of Acra, whom he married on August 27, 1966, and his two sons, Thomas Edward MacDonald and wife, Barbara, of Huntington, Long Island, NY, and Bradley James MacDonald of Acra; mother-in-law, Hilda Pousont; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ted and Janet Gooss; two grandchildren, twins, Tyler Thomas MacDonald and Amanda Jean MacDonald, both of Huntington, Long Island. He is also survived by four younger brothers; Ian MacDonald and wife, Yoonie, of Woodbridge, Virginia, David MacDonald of Valley Falls, Brian MacDonald and wife, Karyn, of East Windham, and James MacDonald of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews.

CATSKILL--- Mrs. Alice Powell, age 86, of 214 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, died Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. She was born March 10, 1920 in Stone Ridge, New York, the daughter of the late Simon and Laura (Wood) Sutherland.
Alice was an employee of New York Telephone in Catskill for over 35 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Catskill United Methodist Church and Telephone Pioneers of America.
Alice was predeceased by her husband, Ray E. Powell o February 24, 2001; two brothers, Herbert Sutherland and Oscar Sutherland; and three sister, Agnes Stewart, Frances Bates and Margaret Sutherland.
Mrs. Powell is survived by two sisters, Thelma Sutherland and Bessie Sherman, both of Catskill; two brothers, Percy Sutherland and Norman Sutherland, both of Catskill; and several nieces and nephews.

CATSKILL--- Robert Treat Chatterton, 96, of Goochland, Va., died April 23, 2006.
Bob was born in Greenville on Nov.6, 1909. He grew up in Catskill and graduated from Catskill High School in 1928. He then attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and graduated in 1932 with honors.
In 1934, he married Irene Josephine Spoor, who survives in Goochland, Va. This June 3rd, they would have been married 72 years.
They had a son, Robert Treat, Jr., now residing in Chicago, Illinois; two daughters, M. Ellen Ganshaw Mann, residing in Milton, NY, and Dorothy Elizabeth Ruqus of Goochland, Va. In 1946, they moved to a small farm in Wappingers Falls, where the family grew up. Survivors also include a niece, Karen Antell of Maine; nine grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Most of Bob’s career was with the American Can Company on 200 Park Avenue in New York City as an electrical engineer. He was promoted to head electrical engineer of the company.
In 1971, after retirement, he and Irene moved to the old family farm in Catskill where he enjoyed raising farm animals and growing fields of crops.
Bob also enjoyed camping and fishing, especially in the Adirondack Mts.
Bob and Irene moved to Goochland, Va. in 1991, after building a house near their daughter and son-in-law, Dot and Lou Ruqus. They maintained a large garden for many years.
A memorial service was held at the Byrd Presbyterian Church, Goochland, Va., on April 26.
There will be a graveside service at the Catskill Rural Cemetery this summer at the time of the annual family reunion.

CATSKILL--- Mr. James Vincent DiPerna, Sr., age 86, of 21 Clinton Avenue, Catskill, died Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at Kaaterskill Care in Catskill. He was born January 10, 1920 in Isernia, Italy, the son of the late Joseph and Lucy (Carangi) DiPerna.
James served in the United States Army National Guard during World War II. He was an employee of Atlanta Knitting Mills for over 25 years. James subsequently worked for Atlantic Cement Company in Ravena prior to his retirement. He came out of retirement to become a School Crossing Guard for the Village of Catskill and later volunteered his services for five additional years after budget cuts eliminated his position.
Mr. DiPerna was a communicant at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church in Catskill. He was a member of the Catskill Senior Fellowship, Rip Van Winkle Senior Citizens, Redmen, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus Council #572, and Italian-American Social Club.
Mr. DiPerna is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary A. (Rizzi) DiPerna of Catskill; two daughters, Theresa Jocelyn of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Mary (Thomas) Zindell of Cairo; a son, V. CAIRO--- George Haley, 88, died Monday, May 15, 2006, at Westchester County Hospital.
He was born on July 30, 1917, in Yonkers and was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Anna (Risko) Haley.
Survivors include two sons, George Haley and his wife, Mary, of Tivoli, and Alan Haley and his wife, Pam, of Cairo; daughter, Betty Ann Swanson and her husband, Walter, of Malden; his brother, Stephen Haley and his wife, Regina, of Kingston; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Haley on December 14, 1989, and his daughter, Janice Bednar and her husband, Joseph, who both passed away in 2004.
George was loved and cherished by many people. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed hanging out with family and friends from Stewart’s. Occasionally, he would hang out at the local Freehold bar, where he was treated with honor and respect.
George also loved bowling and shooting pool.
He had a passion for living a full life until the end.
His favorite hobby was scratch off tickets and hoping to win the Lottery some day…being up in Heaven with his daughter and son-in-law, his mother and father, his brothers and sisters, and his bowling buddies.
We will all miss his sense of humor and his stories of the past.
George, Grandpa, Dad…we love you, and may you rest in peace.
George had been an area resident of Cairo since 1959. He graduated from the Saunders High School in Yonkers and went to work for Andaconda cable. He was also employed at Yonkers Outdoor Advertising, and was employed as a maintenance man in the Town of Cairo prior to his retirement. He painted and constructed many signs in Cairo, and did roofing.

Private cremation services took place Thursday, at the Albany Rural Crematorium, in Menands.

Frank has been an area resident since 1957, he adored cats, loved to watch football, and car racing, he was a maintenance man and loved to work at the Green Lake Homestead in Catskill.
Survivors include four sons, Frank Jung of Catskill, Volker Jung of Albany, Alex Jung of North Carolina and Hans Ronzka of Long Island. Also survived by his daughter, Sigrid Dunn of Florida; two brothers, Jakob Jung of Coxsackie, Josef Jung of Michigan; a sister, Katherine Krauss of New Hampshire; also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

GREENVILLE--- Russell Karkheck, 84, of East Durham, died suddenly at his home on May 16, 2006.
He was born in Rockaway Beach on June 21, 1921, son of the late Henry and Laura (Walsh) Karkheck.
Russell served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, 193rd Tank Battalion. He was the owner of Russell’s Garage until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1416, the Oak Hill-Durham Volunteer Fire Company, Life member of the East Durham Volunteer Fire Company, the Greene County Volunteer Fire Company, the Greene County Volunteer Fireman’s Association, a former member of the Greenville Rotary Club and was the Voting Machine Custodian for the Town of Durham.
Russell was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Cully) Karkheck in 1992.
Surviving are his long-time companion, Beverley Jennings of East Durham; his three sons, Dr. Russell Karkheck (Peri) of Nanuet, John Karkheck (Dorothy) of Jackson, Mich.; his daughter, Marla Bednar (Thomas) of East Durham; and his six grandchildren, Katie, Jesse, John and Ian Karkheck, and Jordan and Justin Bednar.

Zenna retired from the Greene County Planning Department. While she enjoyed her job, her life revolved around her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and will be remembered for her zest for life and lots of laughs.
She was a proud member of the Happy Hookers Crochet Club of Cairo.

Born April 27, 1960 in Albany, the daughter of Clayton “Sonny” Barkman and Maureen Farinelli.
Mrs. Van Dyke was the director of Weatherization and Transportation at Community Action of Greene County until illness forced her retirement.
She was active in many community programs including Coats for Kids, Community Christmas and Toy Drive for Underprivileged Children, Field Day for Hunger and as Food Pantry coordinator.
Mrs. Van Dyke was the leader and lead singer of the Wrap Around Sound Band for many years. She was a member of the Hoe Bowl Tuesday Night Mixed League and team mascot of the Barfly’s.
She enjoyed boating on the Hudson, biking, hiking, painting , crafts, needlepoint and creative cooking.

OAK HILL---Leroy Duane Cleveland, 62, of Oak Hill, died May 21, 2006, at his home with his family by his side.
Born May 19, 1944 in his grandmother’s home in Conesville, Schoharie County, he was the son of the late Grace Crumb Cleveland and Leonard Cleveland.
He served as a construction engineer in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 in the 83rd Engineers Battalion in Germany.
Mr. Cleveland worked with his father and brother in the Cleveland Plumbing, Heating and Electrical Co.
He met his wife, Gail, and they moved to New York City where he worked as superintendent of buildings and grounds at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx from 1973 to 1979. He then returned to Greene County to design and build his own passive solar house in Oak Hill.
Mr. Cleveland worked as maintenance supervisor for the Greenville School from 1981 until early retirement due to illness in 2004. He was the type of supervisor that could perform almost any task himself and this enabled him to properly guide and instruct those who reported to him. Leroy could always be counted on to visit family and friends with a tool box in the truck to tackle even the hardest jobs.
He was an avid hunter and a fisherman. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and all sports. He also enjoyed traveling, skiing and golfing. He often accompanied his son, Brook, to freestyle ski competitions.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Gail McGuire Cleveland; a son, Brook Owen Cleveland; a sister, Evalena Michaels of Castleton and Vero Beach, Fla.; four brothers, Leonard Cleveland of Santaquin, Utah, Eugene Cleveland of Oak Hill, Richard Cleveland of Sun City, Calif., and Dennis Cleveland of Preston Hollow, Albany County, and their families; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kelly and Brian McKeon and their children, Matthew, Caroline and Brian of Massapequa, Long Island; two sisters-in-law, Maureen and Tara McGuire of South Amboy, N.J.; his mother-in-law, Margaret Nelson of Boqueron, Puerto Rico; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
It was his wish to be cremated with no calling hours. Instead, a celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. June 3 at the Greenville American Legion Post 291 on Maple Avenue in Greenville with Chaplain Rev. Alan Babcock and the Legion Color Guard officiating. Prayers will be led by the Rev. Thomas Carney of the Greenville-Norton Hill United Methodist Church.
Following the service, refreshments will be served; friends and family are invited to stay.

He served in the United States Air Force during World War II.

Mr. Rehberg worked as a brick layer for B.A.C. Local Union No. 5 out of Albany from 1945 to 1967, working on projects such as the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Stuyvesant Center and many other public projects in the Albany area.
He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Coxsackie and St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Cheektowaga.
He was also a member of the Elks, Coxsackie Yacht Club and the Coxsackie Masonic Lodge.

ATHENS--- Raymond Jones, 93, of Athens, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at Columbia-Greene Long Term Care, where he was admitted after a brief hospital stay this month.
Born Aug. 12, 1912 in Liverpool, England, he was the son of the late Albert and Margaret Jones.
He immigrated to the United States in 1931 and became a citizen on Nov. 6, 1942, the day of the birth of his first son, Terrence.
Mr. Jones married Kathleen Cooney, formerly of County Longford, Ireland, in 1937. They settled in Port Washington, Long Island, where he owned and operated a neighborhood grocery store until 1971. They built a home in Acra, where he resided until 1999, after which time he lived with his son and daughter-in-law in Athens.
He coached his granddaughters, Kellie, Carrie and Heather to play soccer, where they competed for Cairo Central High School.
Mr. Jones bowled with a league at Ravena Lanes until the age of 92. He taught himself to program computers when he was in his 70’s and wrote his own program to calculate the league’s stats and also published their weekly newsletter. He also enjoyed attending the Athens Senior Citizen Center meal program for lunch every day.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Terrence and Catherine of Athens and Lawrence and Jane of Seaford, Long Island; five grandchildren, Kellie (Jones) Smirnoff of Jacksonville, Fla., Carrie (Jones) Neveldine of Syracure, Heather (Jones) Proctor of San Antonio, Texas, and Erin Jones and Brian Jones, both of Seaford; a sister, Vera Purcell, Liverpool, England; a step-granddaughter, Gina Law of Palenville; three great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives in the United States, England and New Zealand and many friends.

CATSKILL--- Elsie R. Van Orden, 84, of Catskill, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at her home.
Born Oct. 19, 1921 in rural Rockland County, at the farm owned by her parents, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Emil and Gertrude Kock Riemer.
She graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1939 and, as an enthusiastic 4-H Club member, won a scholarship to Syracuse University, where she graduated in 1943 with a degree in home economics.
Mrs. Van Orden was hired as one of New York’s first female cooperative extension agents, based in Watertown, and traveled the four snowy counties of the “north country”, including those in the Thousand Islands, which had to be visited by boat.
When Greene County had an opening for a 4-H Club agent in the late 1940’s, she moved to the Hudson Valley and soon met Hugh DeWitt “Sam” Van Orden. They were married on April 9, 1949 by the late Rev. Vernon Nagel at the Van Orden Homestead and their first home was a houseboat docked along the river.
While raising four children on the farm, Mrs. Van Orden had a butter-and-egg route. She was a 4-H leader for many years and eventually became Greene County’s Home Demonstration Agent before starting a small school bus company. Before centralization, she was a tax collector for District #9.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church, Greene County Historical Society and the Catskill Monday Club.
In later years, she delivered Meals on Wheels, chaired church rummage sales, and was a tireless supporter of the Greene County Youth Fair.
Elsie enjoyed reading, knitting intricate sweaters with wool from the family sheep, and grew flowers for the altar of the Reformed Church. She had a keen interest in the genealogy and oral history of the Van Orden family and the Embought neighborhood.

She served in the U.S. Army and worked as an x-ray technician at Fort Dix, N.J.
At the time of her death, she was employed at the Kingston Diagnostic Center as an x-ray technician. Previously, she was employed at the Kingston Hospital and also at the Poughkeepsie Hospital.
She was a member of the Sullivan Teator Post No. 110 VFW American Legion of Catskill and the West Athens Ladies Fire Auxiliary. Mrs. Finch also taught Sunday School at the High Hill Methodist Church. She loved gardening and cooking.

Mr. Jennings was a past commander and life member of the Tri-Town Memorial VFW Post 7229. He loved to hunt and fish.

He was 49 years old.
Spelino was born March 17, 1957 in Freeport, the son of Edward and Arletta Giltz Spelino. He married Debra Reis Melville on May 21, 1988.
He was employed by Art Sperl & Son in Saugerties. An all-around sports fan, he especially loved fishing and NASCAR. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1972 until 1977.
In addition to his wife in Cairo, he is survived by a step-daughter, Shannon (Mrs. Craig) Sperl of Palenville; a step-son Ian Melville of Quarryville; a brother, Thomas Spelino of Saugerties; and two sisters, Patricia Brown of Georgia and Cheryl Spelino of Bowling Green, Ky.; his mother-in-law, Irene Reis and several nieces and nephews.

FREEHOLD--- John E. Albin, 77, of Freehold, died May 28, 2006, at the Barnwell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Valatie.
Born June 14, 1928 in New York City, he was the son of the late George and Ella Mae Cassidy Albin.
He served in the Untied States Army during the Korean War and was discharged as a corporal.
Mr. Albin was a retired carpet installer, having last worked for Broadway Carpet in Schenectady.
He was a member of the Carpenters Union and former member of the Freehold Volunteer Fire Company.
He was an avid reader.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, John and Elizabeth Albin, Jr., Jayme and Ann Albin, Michael and Susan Albin and Raymond and Stephanie Albin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Michele and Victor Weidman and Ellen and Orin Stevens; a brother, Raymond Albin; two sisters, Agnes Cafferelli and Midge Komeral; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a special “son”, Joe Savino, Jr.; and special friend, Frank Potter and family.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Joan Bigley Albin; a son, Robert Albin; a daughter, Karen Yacobucci; two sisters, Gertrude VonBerg and Helen Loughran; and four brothers, Arthur, George, Fred and William Albin.
As to his request, cremation will be at the Albany Rural Crematorium.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be in the Saratoga National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Greenville Rescue Squad or the American Red Cross.
Arrangements are by the Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville.

LEXINGTON--- Anastazia Dopiwka, 84, died Friday, May 26, 2006, at Eden Park Care Center in Poughkeepsie.
Born Dec.
29, 1921 in Horodok, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Johann and
Katharine Kril.
She previously resided in New York City and Lexington, where she was an active church member and choir singer at St. George and St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Luba and Robert Marino and Irene Hermance; a son and daughter-in-law, Ihor and Nucia Dopiwka; a brother and sister-in-law, Mikola and Efrosine Krilseven; a sister-in-law, Eudokia Kril; seven grandchildren, Robert, Larissa and Christopher Marino, Andrea and Markian, and Robert, Jr. and Gregory; five great-grandchildren; and three nieces; as well as family in the Ukraine.
She was predeceased by her husband, Demetrius Dopiwka, in August 1988; a sister, Pauline Sagal; a brother, Dmytro Kril; and a nephew.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, 7742 Main St., Hunter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist, Ukrainian Catholic Church, in South Jewett.
Interment
will follow in the St. Francis deSales Cemetery, Elka Park.

ATHENS--- Frank T. Nemeth, 78, of Livingston Street, Athens, died Sunday, May 28, 2006, at Community Hospice at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson.
Born Feb. 7, 1928 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Belso Nemeth.
He had been an area resident for 77 years.
He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy.
Mr, Nemeth was a communicant of the St. Patrick’s Church, a board member of the Athens Rural Cemetery, a member of the St. Patrick’s Church choir, and a member, vice commander and honorary commander of the American Legion Post 187 of Athens.
He enjoyed music and playing on the keyboard. He also loved to tinker with many things.
Survivors include his wife, Carol O. Overbaugh Nemeth of Athens; two sons, Frank T. Nemeth, Jr. of Athens and David B. Nemeth of New Mexico; two grandchildren, Steven and Matthew.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Richards Funeral Home, 28 N. Vernon St., Athens.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Church, Athens, with the Rev. Father James Borstelmann officiating.

WINDHAM--- Daniel M. Quinn, 52, of Windham, died Saturday, May 27, 2006, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
Born Nov. 29, 1953 in Catskill, he was the son of William and Joan Scott Quinn.
He was formerly employed at the Fresh and Bright Dry Cleaners in Windham.
Survivors include two sisters, Colleen Heisinger and Mary Black, both of Maplecrest; several nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Monna Coles.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Kathleen Quinn and Gayle Scheer.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Ashland.

NEW BALTIMORE--- Ruth Schwartz Friday, 90, died Monday, May 29, 2006, at her home in New Baltimore.
Born Oct. 9, 1915 in Colton, St. Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Dr. Will and Esther Schwartz.
Mrs. Friday graduated from St. Lawrence University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. While attending St. Lawrence, she was a member of the women’s varsity basketball team and participated as a member of many other athletic teams.
She married her husband, Claude B. Friday, in 1938 and moved frequently while he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
After the war, they moved to New Baltimore where they raised their children and spent the remainder of their lives. Her husband predeceased her.
Mrs. Friday was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Ravena.
She was a lifelong sports enthusiast, which included baseball and football games on television, and, she also enjoyed sewing and quilting.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in- law, Diane and Neal Fisher and Sue Friday; a son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Elizabeth Friday; four grandchildren, Michael Fisher, Jody Fleming, Jeffrey Friday and Lori Friday; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Hollis, Roger and Aubrey.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service commemorating the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Friday will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena.

GREENVILLE--- Mildred E. Reinhardt, 95, of Greenville, died at her home on May 29, 2006.
She was born in Brooklyn on Jan. 21, 1911, daughter of William and Alice Anderson, Sr.
She was a member and past matron of Maranatha Valley Chapter O.E.S. and the Greenville-Norton United Methodist Church. She was well-known for her paintings and loved her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick G. Reinhardt, her son, Frederick W. Reinhardt, a sister, Gertrude Smith and her brother, William Anderson, Jr.
Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Reinhardt of Greenville; a nephew, Robert Smith of Niskayuna; and a grandniece, Lorie Smith, of San Francisco.
Funeral services will be Friday, 11 a.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m.
O.E.S. services will be Thursday evening.
Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery.
