THEODORE H. OVERBAUGH
Electrician for Bauer Electric
WINDSOR, Conn.---Theodore (Ted) Harry Overbaugh, 81, of
Windsor, Conn, beloved husband for 59 years to Marjorie (Hotchkiss) Overbaugh,
died Tuesday, December 25, 2001 at Hartford Hospital.
Born October 11, 1920, in Kiskatom, son of the late Harry
Bovee Overbaugh and Ethel Ormerod, he lived in Windsor for 29 years and Martha's
Vineyard, Mass. for seven years. Mr.
Overbaugh moved to Florida for 12 years and returned to Windsor three years ago.
He attended local schools and was a graduate of Catskill
High School, Class of 1939. He
served in the US Navy during WW11 on PT boats in the South Pacific.
Mr. Overbaugh was employed in Hartford as an Electrician at Bauer
Electric for 28 years and at Freedman Electric for five years prior to his
retirement. Before he moved to Connecticut, he worked for Central Hudson as a
lineman. He received a pin for 55 years of service from the National Electrical
Contractors Association.
Mr. Overbaugh was a member of the First Church of Windsor
Congregational, Oriental Lodge in Martha's Vineyard and a former member of the
Windsor Lodge Elks. He was past
president of Bayside Kiwanis Club, Fort Myers, Fla. and a past supervisor and
vice president of the Dukes County Conservation District, Martha's Vineyard.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, two sons, Jerry B.
Overbaugh of Portland, Me, and John Overbaugh of Windsor, a daughter, Deborah (Overbaugh)
Hallgren of Windsor, a sister, Catherine Brandow of Leeds, a brother, Jerry
Overbaugh of Rensselaerville, seven grandchildren and one great grandson.
He was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Overbaugh Black, in
August 1994.
Services were held Saturday, 1 pm at the First Church of
Windsor Congregational. Interment
followed with full military honors at Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

CHARLES F. WILDERMAN
Truck Driver
Westerlo---Charles F. Wilderman, 63, of Westerlo died
suddenly Monday, Dec. 31, 2001 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.
Born March 14, 1938, in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Charles J.
and Mary (Meuller) Wilderman.
Mr. Wilderman was a lifelong truck driver, driving for
Gorman Brothers out of the Port of Albany. He loved his card games, bowling,
hunting, and was a goodwill ambassador to his many friends, neighbors and family
members and was also fond of and kind to animals. He loved dearly his family. As
all of his family and friends knew, he was always ready for his "afternoon
beer".
Survivors include his daughter, Terry (Kevin) Winne of
Westerlo; a son, Charles J. Wilderman of Westerlo; his grandchildren, Caleb
Winne and Crystal Wilderman; his stepgrandchildren, Felicia and Angela Rennick;
his longtime friend and companion, Joan Winne; and his wife, Dolores Wilderman
of Cobleskill.
Calling hours will be 4-8 pm Thursday at the Cunningham
Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville. Interment
will be at the Westerlo Central Cemetery. Due
to medical problems, relatives and friends are requested to refrain from wearing
perfume, cologne and after shave. The

JAMES L. HALLENBECK
Former Catskill area resident
CATSKILL---James L. Hallenbeck, 72, of Margate, Fla., and
former longtime Catskill area resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002 at Rex
Healthcare Hospital in Raleigh, NC. Born
Jan. 29, 1929, in Hudson, he was the son of the late Howard and Edna (Decker)
Hallenbeck.
Mr. Hallenbeck attended grade school and high school at St.
Mary's Academy in Hudson. After high school he served in the US Army from
November 1950 to October 1952, earning an Army of Occupation Medal in Germany. On June 6, 1954, he wed Nancy Cifelli of Catskill.
Mr. Hallenbeck was employed in New York for many years with
Supermarket Distributors. While in New York he was an active member of St.
Patricks Holy Name Society in Catskill. In
1978 he moved to Florida and began working for IBM in Boca Raton. He retired
from IBM in 1988 as a department technician. Following his retirement he enjoyed
his life with his loving wife Nancy.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Ann Hallenbeck of
Margate, Fla.; two sons, Benedict Joseph Hallenbeck of Raleigh, NC and James L.
Hallenbeck, Jr. and wife Lisa of Raleigh; two grandchildren, Jason and Jack
Hallenbeck of Raleigh; two brothers,
Harold and John Hallenbeck, both of Hudson.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Sheri Marie Hallenbeck;
two sisters, Margaret Hallenbeck and Rose Kovatch; three brothers, Howard,
Richard and Edward Hallenbeck.
Mr. Hallenbeck was blessed with a loving family and many
friends, all of whom will treasure his memory forever.
Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday at the Traver & McCurry
Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 am Tuesday at
St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Bridge Street, Catskill.
Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Catskill.

CAIRO---Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated Friday
at 3 pm at St. James Church in Chatham with Fr. Garry, pastor, celebrating the
Mass for Genesio "Jerry" Benvenuto of Route 66, Ghent, who died
suddenly Jan. 1, 2002, at Columbia Memorial Hospital emergency room in Hudson.
Interment was held in the family plot of St. James Cemetery
in Ghent. Relatives and friends called at the Valenti & Richards Funeral
Home, Town Hall Drive, Greenport, along with the following organizations;
Columbia County Sheriff's Department, Hudson, Hudson Police Department, Hudsons
Sons & Daughters of Italy, American Legion Post No. 42, Ghent VFW and many
other organizations. US Rep. John Sweeney attended the calling hours.
The pallbearers were: Harvey McCagg, Richard Fiero, Richard Green,
Kenneth Wilbur, Daren Lanphaer, Michael Clunis, Jack Mesick Jr. and Guido
Lippera. Honorary bearers were Jack
Mesick Sr. and Stanley Novine.

Born in Puerto Rico
WEST COXSACKIE---Lucille C. Struss, 79, of Bethany Village,
West Coxsackie, died Friday at Columbia Memorial Hospital, in Hudson.
Mrs. Struss was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Guielmo
Torres and Victoria Garcia. She previously lived in Yonkers for 15 years and
worked as a waitress at Wilsker's in Yonkers.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Coxsackie, the
Columbiettes, Bethany Village Tenants Association, and Coxsackie Area Senior
Citizens. She was a volunteer for the Greene County Department of Aging
and an elections inspector for the Greene County Board of Elections.
Mrs. Struss is survived by her children, William Struss of
Wappinger's Falls; Lorraine Hoey of Zephyr Hills, Fla;
John Struss of Yonkers; and Lisa Struss, of LaGrange;
A brother, Victor Torres, of San Diego, Calif., 11 grandchildren and six
great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, John Michael Struss;
her brothers, Bennie Torres and Willy Torres; grand daughter Heidi Struss; a
great grandson, Alex Struss.
Calling hours are 7-9 pm Sunday at the McHoul Funeral Home,
Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 10 am Monday at Blessed Kateri Church, Route 82, LaGrangeville.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
WILLIAM G. DUNBAR

WINDHAM---William G. Dunbar, 74, of Windham, died Friday,
January 4, 2002 at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston. Born June 14, 1927 in Lexington, he was the son of the late
John Dunbar and the late Grace (Makely) Dunbar.
Mr. Dunbar married his wife of 45 years, Margaret, on July 6, 1956.
He was an Army WW11 veteran, and worked for Peckham
Industries for 42 years as an Operating Engineer.
Mr. Dunbar was a member of Windham Fire Company and the James F. Carty
VFW Post 1545.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret and his children,
daughter, Donna Russell, daughter, Diane Phelps, son, Captain John J. Dunbar,
son, Steve Dunbar, daughter, Barbara Blake, son, Audry Dunbar, daughter, Pamela
Hidecker, and son Kevin Dunbar, as well as 14 grandchildren, and eight
great-grandchildren.
Calling hours were conducted 2-4 and 7-9 pm Sunday at the
Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main St. Windham. A service was held 8 pm officiated by
Rev. David Overton. Private cremation will follow at the Wiltwyck Cemetery,
Kingston.

PALENVILLE---Olga Giordano, 87, died Saturday, January 5,
2002 at Kingston Hospital. Born May
27, 1914 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of Peter and Mary Delphinou Cheuces.
She is survived by a son, Gregory Giordano of Lodi, NJ.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dominic Giordano in 1998.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at a time and place to be
announced. Interment will be in St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery, Barclay Heights,
Saugerties. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Buono Funeral
Services, Inc., Saugerties.

CATSKILL---Bertha Margaret Landon, 75, of Catskill, died
Saturday, Jan 5, 2002, at Eden Park Nursing Home, where she had been a patient
since November. Born Jan. 22, 1926,
in Catskill, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Beatrice (Thompkins)
Freer.
Mrs. Landon was a retired registered nurse for Greene
County Memorial Hospital. She graduated from Catskill High School and Hartwick
College. She was a registered nurse for 42 years and a member of the New York
State Nurses Association, Chapter 293 Order of the Eastern Star, Reach for
Recovery Breast Cancer Survivors and the United Methodist Church.
She served as a volunteer for Central Assessment with
Greene County Department of Social Services.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. Jeff Landon of Spiceland,
Ind.; a daughter, Kim Landon of Clinton, NY; a granddaughter, Julie Silverstrim
of Clinton; a grandson, Justin Landon of Coxsackie; and a sister, Frances Freer
Monahan of Catskill. Mrs. Landon
was predeceased by her husband, John Landon, on June 22, 1985, and a brother,
Roy Freer, Jr.
Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Millspaugh
Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill
Funeral services will be 10 am Wednesday at the United Methodist Church
of Catskill. Pastor Lee Hardgrove will officiate. Interment will be at the Town
of Catskill Cemetery.

CATSKILL---Victor Leroy
Rivenburgh, age 79, died Saturday, Jan 5, 2002 at Columbia Memorial
Hospital in Hudson, where he had been a patient. Born Nov. 6, 1922 in Catskill,
he was the son of the late Harold and Bessie VanLoan Rivenburgh.
Mr. Rivenburgh was a member of Citizen's Hose Co. No. 5 and the Greene
County Fire Police.
He was employed by the New York Central Railroad for 10
years. Operated
Village Taxi for two years, shuttle driver with Chapman Auto Sales and culinary assistant at
the Skyline Restaurant in Catskill
for many years. Mr. Rivenburgh served in the
US Naval Reserves in New York City from 1948 to 1953 and with the Army National
Guard in Hudson during 1956.
He served in the Army during WW11 having attained the rank of Private First
Class. He enlisted on Nov. 21 1944 at Syracuse and discharged on February 10,
1946 at Fort Dix, NJ.
Survivors include a son Kenneth D. Rivenburgh of Colorado Springs,
CO; son David M. Rivenburgh of Catskill; son
Paul B. Rivenburgh of Catskill; son Harold L. Rivenburgh of Catskill; son
Richard Rivenburgh of Latham; son Teddy Rivenburgh; Daughter,
Nancy Powell, daughter Patricia Harper of Missouri; Tommy Rivenburgh, of Pine
Plains and former wife Wanda Rivenburgh of Watervliet. Thirteen
grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Rivenburgh was predeceased by his wife Theresa
Rivenburgh on March 30, 2001, two sisters and three brothers.
Calling hours will be conducted 7 to 9 pm Wednesday at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home in Jefferson Heights, Catskill. Memorial services will be 10
am Thursday at the funeral home. Private cremation took place Monday January 7
at the Albany Rural Crematorium.

GREENVILLE---Ida B. Woodard, 81, of Medusa, died Jan 7,
2002 at Green Manor Nursing Home in Ghent.
She was born in the Town of Westerlo on Feb. 1, 1920, daughter of the
late Jesse and Grace (Boomhower) Clickman.
She was a retired secretary-bookkeeper for Spick Products
in Athens. She was predeceased by her husband, Jay Woodard, and two
brothers, Charles and Levi Clickman. Surviving
are a daughter, Viola Hogan of Medusa, four sisters, Viola Lindenfelser of
Medusa, Dorothy Newell of Westerlo, Louella Palmer of Greenville and Ruth
Trevail of Catskill; two brothers, John Clickman of Greenville and Donald
Clickman of Ravena; and several nieces and nephews.
As to her wishes, cremation was at the Albany Rural
Cemetery and interment will be at the Medusa Cemetery.

PURLING---Rose Cucich, 78, of Route 31, Purling, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, after
suffering injuries in a one car automobile accident not far from her home.
Mrs. Cucich was born in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late Antoinette
Antignano. She was a research
technician for Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City before moving to
Greene County in 1955.
While living in Purling, Mrs. Cucich and her husband, Mario
Cucich, owned and operated Mario's Pineview Lodge Restaurant.
She was a communicant of the Sacred Heart Church of Cairo, and a member
of the Lady of Knock Council, Knights of Columbus No. 6431.
She enjoyed cooking, baking and making a variety of jellies.
She was also active in the St. Peter's Maternity Unit, supplying newborns
with baby blankets.
She is survived by Mario Cucich, her husband of 50 years;
a daughter, Donna Maier of Poughkeepsie; a brother, Daniel Antignano of
Long Island; and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Matthew.
Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 pm Friday at the Richards
Funeral Home, 383 Bross St., Cairo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 10 am Saturday at the Sacred Heart Church, Cairo. Interment will
follow in the family plot of St. Patrick's Cemetery, Catskill, next to her late
son Peter.

PARAGOULD, Ark.---Daniel Ward Finn, 55, died Tuesday, Jan.
8, 2002, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center, Arkansas.
Born Feb. 12, 1946, in Pontiac, Mich., he was the son of the late Estelle
and Harry Finn.
Mr. Finn was a bathroom fixture refinisher and a veteran of
the US Army. He was a member of the New Beginning's Church.
Survivor's include a son, Garry Finn of Paragould, Ark.;
daughter, Kelsey Hollis of Paragould; brothers, Terry Finn of Rocky Mount, NC.,
and Dr. James Finn of Catskill; sister, Henrietta Penyak of Kansas City, MO;
grandchildren, Xylon Hollis, Zakary Hollis and Kalyssa Hollis, all of Paragould;
and his former wife, Jo Castelli of Paragould.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Norman
"Buddy" Finn. Calling
hours are noon to 12:45 pm at the Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould, Ark.
Services will begin at 12:45 pm at the funeral home with graveside
services 1 pm at Linwood Cemetery.

COXSACKIE---Adolph Karl Peter Praemassing, 66, of Schoharie
Turnpike, Earlton, died Wednesday evening at his home surrounded by his loving
family. Born March 23, 1935, in
Cologne, Germany, he was the son of the late Adolph and Elizabeth (Margies)
Praemassing.
Mr. Praemassing was a resident of Earlton for 30 years,
moving here from Wantagh, L.I. He
was a veteran serving in the U. S. Army from 1956-1958. He was married on July
30, 1960, in Brooklyn to the former Erika Hoyer who survives at home.
He was employed for 20 years as the machine shop foreman at American Tree
and Wreath in Coxsackie and from 1990-1997 in Research and Development for
Christmas in America in Newburgh. He retired in 1997. After his retirement he enjoyed many construction projects
and continued until illness prevented.
He was an avid LGB
Model Railroader and together with his wife owned and operated from 1979-1995
the Junior Speedway in Cairo. He
attended Unity Church in Albany and enjoyed singing in the choir.
In addition to his wife of 41 years, survivors include his
daughter, Ann and her husband David Grant of Earlton; two granddaughters, Amy
and Heather; and his son Robert and his wife Elizabeth Praemassing, of Salem,
VA.
A memorial service commemorating Mr. Praemassing's life
will be conducted 11 am Saturday at the Unity Church, Corner of King and
Bradford Streets, Albany.

(Cris) Ketcham, 89 died Friday, Jan 4, after a brief struggle with
cancer, at her home in Greenville, while comforted by members of her extended
family. Born May 4, 1912, in Brattleboro, Vt., she was the daughter of Leslie and Clarissa
(Reed) Edwards.

HUDSON---Charles E. Marshall, 73, of 119 Columbia St.
Hudson, died Jan 10, 2002, at the Community Hospice at Columbia Memorial
Hospital, Hudson. Born Oct 18,
1928, in Sharon Conn., he was the son of the late Charles and Helen Marshall.
Mr. Marshall moved to the Columbia county area in 1955 from Red Hook, and
was involved in local dairy farming.
Survivors include his wife Marge E. (Brott) Marshall of
Hudson, three brothers, Douglas, Thomas and Walter, also survived by eight
sisters.
Calling hours will be 9:30 to 10 am Tuesday, Jan 15, at the
Calenti and Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport.
Funeral services will take place 10 am Tuesday Jan. 15, at the funeral
home. The Rev. Winston Rath, pastor of St. Mary's Church of Hudson will
officiate. Interment will follow in
the New Athens Cemetery.

CAIRO---Alfred Andrew Parr, 99, died Wednesday, Jan 9, 2002 at his home in Cairo, Born in Richmond Hill, Queens, he was first brought to Greene County at age 4, and began a lifelong attachment to the area. He left school at 15 to work in the New York offices of U.S. Steel Corp. Curious to learn about business, he became a steel worker in the mills at Pittsburgh, McDonald, Ohio, and Gary, Ind., before returning to New York. He left................. Retta Lykens of the Cairo United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will take place at Maple Grove cemetery, Kew Gardens, Queens.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Parr's memory may be made in the South Cairo United Methodist Church.

CATSKILL---Peter Tyler Christopher Rothrock, 16, died
suddenly Thursday, Jan 10, 2002, at Albany Medical Center.
Born Aug. 1, 1985, in Charleston, SC, he was the son of Maria E. (Impastato) Rothrock of Palenville and the late Joseph V. Rothcock.
Mr. Rothrock was an 11th grade student at Catskill High School.
He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church
in Catskill; past member of St. Patrick's Retreat Team; Catskill Boy Scout Troop
44; and Catskill High School DECA Club and Tennis Team.
Survivors include his mother, Maria E. Rothrock of
Palenville, a sister, Olivia L.
Rothrock of Palenville; a brother, Joseph V. Rothrock II of Palenville; and many
aunts, uncles and cousins.

WESTLAND, Mich.----Newman H, Mabey, of Raven Crest Lane,
Westland, Mich, died Tuesday, Jan 8, 2002 at Farmington Hills, Mich.
Mr. Newman previously lived in South Bethlehem, NY for five years.
He was a member of the South Bethlehem Methodist Church for 40 years.
He worked as a field underwriter with Mutual of New York in Albany for 30
years. He graduated from SUNY New Paltz and taught school in Coxsackie for three
years.
Surviving are his wife, Florence Mabey, of Westland, Mich.,
sons, John and Gregg Mabey of Livonia, Mich., and Joseph Jasen, of Indianapolis,
and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were 4-9 pm at the Vermeulen Funeral Home,
Newburgh Road, Westland, Mich. The
funeral service was 4:30 pm Friday at the Vermeulen Funeral Home with the Rev.

WINDHAM---Helene Moore, 54, of Windham, died Thursday, Jan
10, 2001 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. Mrs. Moore was born in Wildflecken, Germany, the daughter of
the late Adolf and Sabrina (Szylkowna) Matusewicz.
She was a sales manager for US Papercounters, of Cairo.
Surviving are a daughter, Tracy Moore; son Russell Moore;
and sister, Irene Lubrano. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Moore and
son Brian Moore.
Calling hours will
be 2-4pm Sunday at the Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main St. Windham. A funeral Mass
will be celebrated at 10 am Monday at St. Theresa's of the Child Jesus Roman
Catholic Church, Windham. The Rev. Donald E. Doyle will officiate.

CATSKILL---Ida Pfeifer, 96, a long time Catskill area
resident, died Friday Jan 11, 2001, at Columbia Greene Long Term Care in
Catskill. She was born in Germany,
the daughter of the late Phillip and Wilhelmina (Lehn) Schmitt.
She was a registered nurse, working in both Long Island and Catskill for
more than 30 years prior to her retirement in 1959.
Mrs. Pfeifer was a communicant at St. Patrick's Roman
Catholic Church in Catskill. She was a member of the Rip VanWinkle Senior
Citizens Club; Catskill Senior Fellowship; and Secular Third Order of St.
Francis.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, and close
friends Allen and Marguerite Uhler, of Catskill. She was predeceased by her
husband, Carl Pfeifer.
Calling hours are 9-10:30 am Monday at Traver & McCurry

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am at the funeral home, with the Rev.

Dominick Latorraca, 63, of Route 385 Catskill, died Friday,
Jan. 11, 2002 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
He was born in Brooklyn and was the son of the late Julius and Michelina
(LaRocco) Latorraca. Mr. Latorraca had lived in Greene County since 1974. He was
a member of the First Baptist Church of Catskill, Grandview Ave., Catskill.
He was employed ay the Shelter Enterprise of Cohoes.
He is survived by his wife, Julia (Wilson) Latorraca; a
son, John Latorraca of Nevada, a daughter, Patricia VanTassel, of Catskill; two
brothers, Rocco Latorraca of Brooklyn, and Joseph Latorraca of Oliverie, NY; two
sisters, Theresa Alafano, of Pennsylvania, Nancy Winter, of Long Island; Three
grandchildren, Jessica, Theresa and Brandi; and a great grandchild, Elijah. He
was predeceased by a sister Theresa.
Calling hours are 7-9 pm Tuesday at the Richards Funeral
Home, 26 N. Vernon St., Athens. The
funeral will commence from the Richard Funeral Home at 11 am Wednesday, with
services at 11:30 am. Interment
will follow in the family plot of the New Athens Rural Cemetery.

Jan. 24, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Grace Boomhower
Clickman.
Mrs. Palmer was a former Librarian Assistant at the
Greenville Central School for 27 years.
Survivors include her husband Phillip J. Palmer; a son,
Phillip T. Palmer and his wife Mary Ellen of Greenville; a daughter, Beverly
Condon and her husband Jeff of Greenville; five grandchildren, Cheryl Lee, Amy
Latart, Kelley, Kevin, and Craig Palmer, three great grandchildren, Victoria
Lee, Krystal and Brook Latart; three sisters, Ruth Trevail of Catskill; Dorothy
Newell of Westerlo; Viola Lindenfelser of Medusa; two brothers,
John Clickman of Greenville and Donald Clickman of Ravena, also several
nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Palmer was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and
Levi Clickman and a sister Ida Woodard.
As to her wishes there are no services. Cremation was at
the Albany Rural Cemetery. Arrangements

Jan. 12, 2002 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.
Born Jan. 1, 1934 in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Jack H. and
Elizabeth Sattler.
Moving to the Earlton area from Albertson, NY, 29 years
ago, he was a bus driver for the Ulster-Greene ARC and a former member of the
Albertson Vol. Fire Co. He had been
formerly employed as an auto mechanic for S. N. Tannor Electric in Springfield
Gardens, NY.
Survivors are his wife, the former Barbara Smith, two
daughters, Barbara Ann Oosterom and her husband James of Bay Shore, L. I.;
Michelle Wood and her husband Walter of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; four sons,
Edward W. Sattler and his wife Lisa of Durham, NC; Andrew L. Sattler and his
wife Bonny of Durham, NC; David C. Sattler of Earlton; and Kurt F. Sattler of
Philadelphia, PA; also 12 grandchildren.
Mr. Sattler was predeceased by a sister, Betty May Sattler.

Sunday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born April 8, 1943, in White Plains, NY, he was the son of the late David
and Loretta Denerly Walker.
Mr. Walker was retired from the Coxsackie Correctional
Facility where he worked as a cook. He
was a member of the Hudson Moose Lodge No. 1184, and a past member of Coxsackie
Fire Company No. 3. Mr. Walker
served in the US Navy from 1962 to 1966 where he earned a National Defense
Service Medal.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Stone Walker of
Coxsackie; a son, Richard A. Walker, Jr. of Hudson; two grandsons, Sean and Seth
Walker of Hudson; a brother, Bernard Walker of Hudson; three sisters, Helen Hall
of Hillsdale; Sharon Walker of Hudson and Patricia Olm of Hudson.
He was predeceased by two brothers, David J. Walker and
James Walker, and a sister, Jean Cook.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 am from the
Bates and Anderson Funeral Home and 10 am at St. Mary's Church in Hudson.

Extension, Catskill, died Monday Jan. 14, 2002, at Eden Park Nursing Home in
Catskill. Born May 15, 1903, in
Szabadka, Hungary, she was the daughter of the late Gabriel and Gizella Stee
Dobo.
Mrs. Campo was a dress designer for Adele Simpson Dress Co.
in New York City for many years prior to her retirement. She was formerly of
Queens, and a long-time summer resident of Lexington, Greene County.
She had lived in the Catskill area since 1999.
Survivors include two sisters, Catherine Demeter of
Saugerties and Irene Bruning of Catskill; and several cousins, nieces and
nephews. Mrs. Campo was predeceased
by her husband, Vincent Campo, on Aug 29, 1965; a sister, Gizella Dobo; and
three brothers, Gabriel Dobo, Stephen Dobo and Alexander Dobo.
Funeral services and entombment will be conducted 1:30 pm
Wednesday at the Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel in the Bronx..

GREENVILLE---Lewis L. Rundell, 97, of Norton Hill died Jan
14, 2002, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. Born March 18, 1904, in the Town of Durham, he was the son of
the late Jeremiah and Ada Litchfield Rundell.
Mr. Rundell was a lifelong farmer and was also employed at
the GNH Lumber Co. in Norton Hill for several years.
He was also a former town councilman for the Town of Durham and a member
of James Austin Lodge F. & A.M. An
avid gardener, he enjoyed his garden and plantings and was a member of the Men's
Garden Club. A big part of his life was his church, being a member of and
serving on several different committees of the Greenville-Norton Hill United
Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Lorraine Hulbert and her
husband Darral of Norton Hill; three grandchildren, Melinda Mullen of Surprise,
and William Winegard Jr. and Timothy Winegard, both of Greenville and eight
great-grandchildren.
Mr. Rundell was predeceased by his wife Thelma Hoose
Rundell in 1995.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 pm
Sunday, Jan. 27, from the Greenville-Norton Hill United Methodist Church.
Funeral Services will be at the convenience of the family. Spring
interment will be at the Greenville Cemetery.

Mr. Carangelo attended Catskill High School. He was an
independent truck driver, a member of Cairo Hose Co. 1 and the Norton Hill
Wildlife Club.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen (Oleschuk) Carangelo,
and eight siblings, Carol Staub, Theresa Passaretti, Leona Bartholomew, Louise
Sawacki, Beatrice Penney. Peter Carangelo, Albert Carangelo and Louis Carangelo; many nieces and nephews.
Private cremation was conducted at the Albany Rural

Steele.
Mrs. Jordan was an accountant with May Department Store in
New York City until 1954 when she and her husband moved to Catskill.
Survivors include a brother, Richard Steele of Greenville,
and four nephews. Mrs. Jordan was
predeceased by her husband, Harold Jordan on Aug. 18, 1963, and a sister, Evelyn
Delavare on April 11, 1998.

SOUTH GLENS FALLS---Francis W. Lewis, 84, formerly of
Whitehall and Moreau, died Sunday, Jan 20, 2002, at the Samuel Stratton Veterans
Hospital in Albany. Born Dec. 20,
1917, in Whitehall, he was the son of the late Edgar and Alice (Kenville) Lewis.
He was a World War II veteran of the US Army where he
participated in the battles at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central
Europe. For 34 years Mr. Lewis
worked at Imperial Color and Chemical Company, later called Hercules, Inc., and
finally Ciba Geigy Inc, from which he retired in 1979.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Angels Church in Whitehall. His
enjoyments included hunting, fishing and woodcarving.
Survivors include a son, Robert F. Lewis and his wife,
Kathleen of Catskill; a grandson, Michael Lewis of Catskill; seven
step-children; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Lewis was predeceased by his wife, Arneta (Wells) Lewis, who died
July 9, 1976, and two sisters, Alice Provost and Luella Pond.

Mrs. Boomhower worked at Buglight Rest in Bridgeport,
Conn., and as a final inspector for Course Air airplanes. She worked as a
hairdresser and retired from the Albany Country Club where she worked as a
ladies attendant. Mrs. Boomhower was married to the late Edward E. Boomhower.
Survivors include two sons. Edward E. Boomhower, Jr. and
Dennis J. Boomhower and his wife Marlene of Westerlo; seven grandchildren,
Bonnie (Dave) Ross of Lynnfield, Mass., Judy (Don) Tambasco of Westerlo, Bradley
(Tracy) Boomhower of Greenville, Curtis Boomhower of Santa Rosa, Cal.,
and Lolita (Jim) Courts of Cotati. Cal.; eight great grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. Boomhower was predeceased by her son, Curtis F.

Catskill, died suddenly on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002 at Columbia Memorial
Hospital's Emergency Room. Mr.
Gardner was born in Catskill on July 15, 1943, to the late John C. Garnder and
Shirley Hardwick Gardner. He
graduated from Catskill High School in 1961 and married the former Margaret
Darling in 1965.
He and his father owned and operated the Sunflower
Restaurant on West Bridge Street from 1975 to 1989. He was currently employed at
Kingston News Service as an office manager. He was a life member of the Catskill
Lodge No. 1341 B.P.O.E.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Gardner of Catskill; their
children, John H. Gardner, Jr., of Colorado Springs and Mrs. Jacqueline Murray
of Catskill; his mother, Shirley Gardner of Catskill;
three uncles, LeRoy, Donald and William Gardner; an aunt, Deanna Dunn of

Medical Center on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002.
She was born in New York City on Dec. 1, 1913, daughter of the late
Joseph and Sarah Milone.
She began her career as a seamstress, apprenticing at the
age of 12 and continued working for various dressmakers and dress shops until
she retired at age 70. Connie and
her husband Vincent moved with their children from the Bronx in 1954 to Oak
Hill. She lived in Freehold for the last 15 years. Mrs. Rao was predeceased by
her beloved husband Vincent Rao in 1979. She
was also predeceased by one sister and six brothers.
Surviving are her sons, John Rao and his wife Gloria of
Greenville and Joseph Rao and his wife Christina of Climax; three grandchildren,
Vincent Rao, Denise Rao and Connie Marie Rao; and two great-grandchildren,
Joseph and Mykle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am
Saturday at St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville.

Mr. Carter is survived by three daughters, Rosalie Nagler,
Florence Strauss and Rona Breslow; and six grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Sydelle Silverberg Carter,
on Sept. 28, 2000.

was born in Coxsackie on March 17, 1915, the daughter of the late John and
Domenica (Votta) Lombardi.
Mrs. Fox was a lifetime resident of Coxsackie, a
communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Rosary
Society. During her years of employment, she worked at Curtis and Warren
Attorneys at Law, St. Mary's Church and the New York State Teacher's Retirement.
She was a past president of the Coxsackie Garden Club, and present member
of the Athens Garden Club. She was
also a member of the Coxsackie Area Senior Citizens and the Bethany Tenant's
Association.
Surviving are her daughter, Sister Mary Rose Fox, CSJ of Latham;
a sister Minnie Petrigliano, of Coxsackie and several nieces, nephews and
cousins.

Kuske of Catskill. He is survived by a brother, Blaise Romeo, of Catskill; a
great-grandmother, Mary Romeo, of Catskill; maternal grandparents, Peter and Patricia
Romeo, of Catskill; paternal grandparents, "Paul and Catherine Kuske, of

PRATTSVILLE---Grace Ann Birnbaum, 66, of Prattsville, died
Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at her residence.
Born in Amityville on Jan. 26, 1935, she was the daughter of the late
Henry and Annie Theresa (Hackenberg) Lewis.
She graduated from Amityville High School in 1952 and married Donald
Birnbaum on Nov. 13, 1955, who predeceased her.
Mrs. Birnbaum moved to Prattsville in 1970 and was very
active in the community. She was Town of Prattsville Tax Collector for over 20
years, tax collector for the Gilboa-Conesville School, and Trustee of the
Zaddock Pratt Museum. Also former
Treasurer of the Prattsville Recreation Committee, former member of the Town of
Prattsville Planning Board, and former secretary of Fairlawn Cemetery
Association. She was also a member
of the Friends of the Museum, and a member of the Virgil E. Deyo, Unit 1327,
American Legion Auxiliary, and an active member of the Dutch Reformed Church,
Prattsville.
Surviving are a daughter, Joanne Renz and her husband,
Michael K. Renz, of Gilboa, and their children, Lindsay A. Renz, of Rotterdam,
Meghan R. Renz, of Corning, and Jordan R. Renz, of Gilboa;
sons, Stephen H. Birnbaum and his wife Lisa P. Birnbaum, of New Orleans;
and Michael R. Birnbaum and his wife, Thu Birnbaum, of Wildomar, CA,
and their children, Joshua D. Birnbaum and Heather C. Birnbaum, also of
Wildomar, CA.
Calling hours will be 3-7 pm Sunday at the Decker Funeral
Home, 134 Main Street Windham. The American Legion Auxiliary will conduct a
service at 6 pm. A funeral service will be at 11 am Monday, at the Dutch
Reformed Church, Prattsville, with the Rev. Diana Smith officiating. A spring
interment at the Fairlawn Cemetery will take place at the convenience of the
family.

CATSKILL---Cecile M. Ambroziak, 98, of 109 Bridge St.,
Catskill, died Tuesday, Jan 29, 2002, at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill.
Born May 8, 1903, in Turner, MI, she was the daughter of the late Elbra
and Martha Stark Shepherd.
Mrs. Ambroziak was a member of the Daughters of the
American Revolution; Society of Mayflower Descendents.
Survivors include her husband of more than 39 years, Stanley Ambroziak of
Catskill; two sisters, Norma (Shepherd) Ambroziak of Catskill; and Audrey
(Shepherd) Pantoliano of Cairo; two grandchildren, Michael Esslie of Cairo and
Joan Bourque of Balckstone, MA; three
great grandchildren, Leah Borruso of Bellingham, MA, Michael W. Esslie of Cairo,
and Mark J. Esslie of Cairo; two great, great grandchildren, Tanner J. Borruso
and Matthew R. Esslie; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ambroziak was predeceased by a son, Robert H. Esslie;
a daughter, Lois M. Raymond; a brother, Lorrian Shepherd; and a granddaughter,
Suzanne Raymond.
Calling hours will be 3-5 pm Friday at the Traver &
McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. Services will be
conducted at 4 pm Friday at the funeral home, Deacon Peter Sedleimer of St. John
the Baptist Church will officiate. Private
cremation will be performed at Park View Cemetery in Schenectady. Spring interment will be at Stone Bridge Cemetery in East
Durham.

CAIRO---Margaret Peterson, 96, a longtime Cairo area resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill. She was born June 27, 1905, in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late Michael and Marker (Cooney) Henry.
Mrs. Peterson was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in
Cairo. She was predeceased by her husband, John T. Peterson, on March 4, 1984.
She is survived by a nephew, Walter Henry of Brooklyn, and several close
friends. Graveside funeral services
will be held at 10 am Friday at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Catskill, Pastor John
J. Murphy will be officiating. Funeral

CATSKILL---Eliza Woodbeck, 72, of Catskill, died Wednesday,
Jan. 30, 2002, at Columbia Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since
Jan. 14. Mrs. Woodbeck was born in
Lexington on April 15, 1929, to the late Charlie Schermerhorn and Irma Rappleyea
Schermerhorn.
She is survived by her children, Louis Woodbeck of
Catskill, Abe Woodbeck of Catskill, Edward Woodbeck of Windham, Donald Woodbeck
of Livingston and Irma Lang of Prattsville;
three step-daughters, Elizabeth Preston of Cairo, Ella Kiebart of
Middleburg and Ann Freeman of Sloansville;
her brother, Ken Schermerhorn of Prattsville, and many nieces and
nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Raymond Schermerhorn;
three sisters, Ida Durham, Clara Preston and Lillian Woodbeck;
a son, Charles Schermerhorn; and a daughter, Eleanor Woodbeck.
Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Millspaugh
Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. Funeral services will be
at 11 am Saturday with Pastor Emeritus Russell Sargent officiating.
Interment will follow at the Catskill Rural Cemetery.

CATSKILL---Sherman A. Lane, 89, died Tuesday, Jan 29 2002,
at the Eden Park Nursing Home. He
was born Aug. 23, 1913, in Wittenburg, son of the late Arthur and Sarah Bell
Lane.
Mr. Lane had formerly resided in Hunter and for 25 years in
Broadstreet Hollow of Shandaken. Mr.
Lane worked for many years as a carpenter for Allied Boat in Catskill. He was an
avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was a skilled woodworking craftsman, and had a green thumb for both
flower and vegetable gardening. He was a member of the IOOB.
Survivors include his son, Sherman E. Lane of Catskill; 13
grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also
survive. Nr. Lane was predeceased
by his wife Jessie Ostrander Lane in 1981.
Calling hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday from the E. B.
Gormley Funeral Home, Main Street, Phonecia.
A service to celebrate the life of Sherman Lane will be held at 7 pm
Friday at the funeral home. Spring
interment will be at the Maplewood Cemetery in Jewett.

HUDSON---Robert Purdell, 70, of Claverack and lifelong area
resident died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Community Hospice in Columbia Memorial
Hospital in Hudson. Born Jan. 19,
1932, in Hudson, he was the son of the late Floyd and Daisy (Hamm) Purdell.
Mr. Purdell was a diesel technician for the former Harders
Express in Claverack. He was a Korean
War veteran with the US Air Force and served with the Strategic Air Command
(SAC). He was also an avid hunter
and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, June Roberts
Purdell of Claverack; three daughters, Mary Catherine Purdell of Philmont, Linda
Tator and her husband Brian of Ghent, and Judith Purdell of Albany; four
grandchildren, William and Nicole Ames, and Courtney and Brock Tator.
He was predeceased by a brother, George Purdell, and three sisters,
Nellie Martin, Daisy Shupa and Edna Pulver.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday at the
First Reformed Church on Green Street in Hudson.
Interment will follow in Mellenville Union Cemetery, Mellenville.
Officiating will be the Rev. Arvin Schoep.
Funeral arrangements were made by the McDonald Funeral Home, Inc., 886
Columbia St. Hudson.

CATSKILL---Sue P. Hollander, 55, of Catskill, died
Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson where she had
been a patient since Jan. 28. Born
May 14, 1946, in Kingston, she was the daughter of Everett and Helen Leverage Pelham.
Upon graduation from high school, she attended Central
College in Iowa and graduated from Columbia-Greene Community College.
She was currently the address manager for Greene County 911.
Survivors include her parents, Everett and Helen Pelham of
Catskill; her daughter, Kirsten Baldwin of Coxsackie; a son, Erik Handschuh of
Ballston Lake; six grandchildren,
Kendrick Baldwin, Samantha Baldwin, Bryanna Baldwin, Trevor Baldwin, Everett
Handschuh and Jasmine Handschuh; a
sister, Nancy Donelian of Saugerties; a niece, Laoti Russo of Boston; and a
nephew, Justin Russo of New York City.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Albany Rural
Crematorium on Wednesday, under the direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral
Home of Catskill.

SUSAN STERRITT

COXSACKIE---Susan Sterritt, 61, of Route 9W, West
Coxsackie, died at her residence surrounded by her family. Born May 24, 1940, in Catskill, she was the daughter of the
late Anna Louise Doretta (Fischer) and Thomas Miller Titterington, who owned and
operated the Central View Boarding House in Purling.
Mrs. Sterritt was married Sept. 18, 1965, in Hackensack,
NJ, to Jerome (Jerry) Sterritt, who survives at home.
A registered nurse, she was a graduate of the Englewood
Hospital School of Nursing, Englewood, NJ, and for many years served in the
office of Dr. Robert Chaloner and Dr. Elwood Weisenburn in Coxsackie.
She was an avid quilter and taught quilting at Cassenovia
College, SUNY Morrisville and Paul Smith College.
She was founding member of Q.U.I.L.T in Delmar.
Many charities have benefited from the raffling of a quilt she and other
members made. She was commissioned
to create the Town of New Baltimore Bicentenial quilt, which hangs in Town Hall.
she was also hired together with two other quilters, Joyce Copleston and Londa
Vanderzee, to quilt a wall hanging for the grand re-opening of Ski Windham.
Many of her quilts have been displayed in national quilting magazines
such as "Quiltworks."
In 1985, she made a pillow for her daughter Jennifer as a
gift to give Rep. Gerald B. Solomon on her trip to Washington, DC. In return,
Mrs. Sterritt received a personal letter from Solomon expressing his deep
appreciation and thanks.
In October 2001, the Empire Quiltfest held at Christian
Brothers Academy in Albany was dedicated in her honor.
The certificate stated, "Through her patience and exceptional
teaching skills, Susan Alice has introduced many people to quilting and
improved the skills of every student she taught.
Mrs. Sterritt was inducted into the Catskill Mountain
Quilting Hall of Fame in 1996. She
was a member of the Greene County Cooperative Extension and a board member of
the Cornell Cooperative Extension. She
had been active as a 4-H leader with the Coxsackie Owls and was a worthy Advisor
for 1959-1960 in the Rainbow Society of the Eastern Star in Hackensack, NJ.
Survivors include her husband, Jerome (Jerry) Sterritt and
their children, Jennifer Louise Sterritt of West Coxsackie, Margaret Susan
Sterritt of Hannacroix and Hugh Thomas Sterritt of Ravena; her sister, Irene
Ferber and brother-in-law George of Salem, SC; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 11 am Saturday at the Sopris
Funeral Home, Route 9W, West Coxsackie. The
Rev. Bruce Fredenburgh will officiate. Interment
will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Coxsackie.

NORMAN H. SWEZEY
Retired dairy farmer
NEW BALTIMORE---Norman H. Swezey, 83, of Swezey Road, Town
of New Baltimore, died at his home on Wednesday morning, Jan 30, 2002,
surrounded by his family. Mr.
Swezey was born July 16, 1918, in New Baltimore, son of the late Van Rensselaer
Swezey and Elizabeth Agnes (Shapter) Swezey.
A lifelong resident of New Baltimore, Mr. Swezey was a
dairy farmer for most of his life and retired in 1971 from farming.
He then was employed by the Town of New Baltimore in the Highway
Department and retired in 1983. He
married Gertrude Louis Cork on March 17, 1941, at Christ Episcopal Church,
Coxsackie, and she survives at home.
Mr. Swezey was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and
served on the Vestry. He was also a
member of the Eastern Dairy Farmers Association and a former board member of the
Riverside Cemetery Association in Coxsackie.
In addition to his wife of more than 60 years, he is
survived by his two daughters, Gertrude Carol Hoerning of Gastonia, NC, and
Frances Elizabeth Wasson of Coxsackie; four grandchildren, Nancy Brown of
Pittsboro, NC, Thomas Hoerning of Charlotte, NC,
Timothy Mallon of Coxsackie and Rosemary Hoffman of Coxsackie; also his
grand daughter-in-law, Jennifer Hoerning of Monroe, NC,
and great-grandchildren, Laura Hoerning of Charlotte, NC and Elizabeth
Mallon, Shannon Mallon, Rebecca Mallon, Nathaniel Hoffman and Timothy Hoffman,
all of Coxsackie, and a step great-grandson, Ryan Matson of West Coxsackie.
He was predeceased by his brother, Van Rensselaer Swezet,
Jr. and his grandson, Robert Hoerning.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Sopris Funeral
Home, Inc., Route 9W, Coxsackie. The Eucharist will be celebrated by the Rev.
Marcus Rogers at 1 pm Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, 70 Mansion Street.
Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Coxsackie.
