Catskill—Julia Mary Asunta Casaregola, 100, of Catskill, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, where she had been a patient since Dec. 11.
She was born on Aug. 17, 1902, in Genoa, Italy, the daughter of the late Cosmo and Michelina (DiTore) Lombardozzi. She was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and a faithful parishioner of St. Patrick’s R. C. Church in Catskill.
She is survived by Ida Lombardozzie (sister) of Genoa, Italy, Mrs. Jack (Carmela) Sencabaugh (niece) of Catskill, Cosmo Casaregola (nephew) and his wife Joanna Casaregola of Catskill, Louis Cone (nephew) of Hudson, Armand Conte (nephew) of Hudson, Anthony Conte (nephew) of Hudson, Thomas Conte (nephew) of Hudson, Loretta O’Loughlin (goddaughter) of Catskill, as well as numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fran Casaregola on Sept. 6, 1972, Maria Cosaregola (sister) on March 30, 2001, Joseph Lombardozzie (brother) of Genoa, Italy, Gaetano Lombardozzie of Genoa, Italy, Enrico Lombardozzi (brother) of Argentina, as well as two nephews, Anthony Casaregola on March 24, 2001 and Erasmo Casaregola on Nov. 24, 2001.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002 at 10:30 a. m. in St. Patrick’s R. C. Church. Rev. John J. Murphy, Pastor of St. Patrick’s R. C. Church will be officiating. Interment will be in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Catskill.
Visitation was at Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill on Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Vila (where she had resided) at 38 Prospect Ave. Catskill, N.Y. 12414.

Domenica M. Gambino
Homemaker
Greenville—Domenica M. Gambino, 94 of Hannacroix, died at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson on Dec. 20, 2002.
She was born in New York City on Sept. 28, 1908, the daughter of the late John and Angelia (LaMacchia) Russo. She was a lifelong homemaker and was predeceased by her husband Agostino Gambino in 1996.
Surviving are two nephews, John Casdia and his wife Ursula of Kendall Park, N. J., and John Russo of Long Island.
Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4889 Route 81, Greenville, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a. m. from St. John the Baptist Church. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Entombment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.

Walter Raymond Legg
Teamsters truck drive
Hunter—Walter Raymond Legg, 58, of Haines Falls, died on Dec. 19, 2002 at Albany Medical Center.
He was born on Dec. 7, 1944 to Virgil and Catherine (Camp) Legg in Catskill.
He was a retired truck driver for Teamster Local 669 in Albany. He was a Vietnam veteran and member of the Brunt Brewer Post 165 of Tannersville.
He is survived by his devoted wife Kathryn Legg of Haines Falls; beloved son Raymond W. Legg and his wife Lorraine, and Richard W. Legg and his wife Catherine, all of Haines Falls; beloved brother of Barbara Clennon of Tannersville and Mary Jane Buck of Haines Falls; beloved grandfather of Dylan and Peyton, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, Dec. 23, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Haines Falls. Officiating will be the Rev. Anthony Motta. Interment will be held in the St. Francis de Sales Cemetery in Elka Park. Friends and relatives may call at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, Main St. Hunter on Sunday, Dec. 22, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Tannersville Rescue Squad in his memory.

Emma L. Sherman
Lived in Windham
Emma L. Sherman, 82, formerly of Windham, died Saturday, Dec. 21, at Mountainside Nursing Home in Margaretville, New York, where she was a resident.
She was born on Sept. 9, 1920 in Windham to Davis Van Valkenburgh and Leta (Nee Osborn) Van Valkenburgh.
She was predeceased by her husband, Porter Sherman, in 1977.
She is survived by her children, Arthur, David, and Everett Sherman. She is also survived by many grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Dec. 26, at Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Windham, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be conducted at the funeral home at 8 p.m. with Rev. Michael Jansen officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donation can be made in her memory to the Hensonville Hose Company, Box 178, Hensonville, N. Y. 12439.

James K. Wisenburn
Retired Fireman
James K. Wisenburn, 53, of Rensselaer, passed away at the Albany Memorial Hospital on Saturday, Dec. 21.
He was born in Albany on Jan. 12,1949 to the late Harold and Mary (Teator) Wisenburn.
He was a retired City of Albany fireman. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing with his daughters. He also enjoyed refinishing antique furniture.
He is survived by his wife Barbara (Lounsbury) Wisenburn; his four daughters, Rebecca (Buck) Catricala and her husband Dennis of Albany, Wendy Wisenburn of Schodack, Jodi Wisenburn of Rensselaer, and Brook Wisenburn of Schodack; a granddaughter, Taylor Barile; two brothers, Harold Wisenburn of New Port Richey, FL, and John Wisenburn of Albany; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Monday, Dec. 23, at 4:30 p.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Sr 81 Greenville.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. prior to the service.
Those who wish may contribute in his memory to their local community hospice.

Charles W. Van Vechten
Former Greene County Highway Superintendent
Leeds—Charles W. Van Vechten, 80, of Leeds, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Albany Medical Center where he had been a patient since Dec. 5.
He was born in Catskill on Jan. 14, 1922 to the late William Luke and Adine Teich Van Vechten.
Mr. Van Vechten was a graduate of Catskill High School Class of 1939, and was a construction worker with HB Moore in Windham for 16 years assisting Lane’s with the construction of the New York State Thruway from Catskill to Selkirk.
He was the Greene County Highway Superintendent for 23 years and was a dedicated, active member of his community.
Mr. Van Vechten was an enthusiastic volunteer firemen for 63 years serving the Leeds Hose Co. as a life member, President for five years, and Fire Chief for 20 years.
He was a member and Past President of the Greene County Firemen’s Association. He was a member of the Green County Highway Association, NYS Town Association, Greene County Highway Safety Committee, and Greene County Republican Committee.
Mr. Van Vechten was a member of Catskill Lodge 1341 B. P. O. E. and Third Degree Master Mason of Catskill Lodge 468 F. & A. M.
He was a member of the Leeds Reformed Church, having served as Deacon for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Geraldine Van Vechten of Leeds, and their three daughters: Mrs. Donald (Charlene) Gardner; Donna L. Meo, and Cathy Van Vechten, all of Catskill; son-in-law, Bruce Meo; four grandchildren: Donald C. Gardner of Greenville, Todd D. Gardner of Albany, Bruce A. Meo and Jill M. Carroll both of Catskill; as well as several nieces and nephews; and brother, William L. Van Vechten Jr. of Leeds; sister, Mrs. Fred (Elizabeth) Lampman of Greenville and two sister-in-laws; Linda Van Vechten of Leeds and Rose Felter of Hudson.
Calling hours will be conducted 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.
Members of the Masonic Lodge are requested to attend services 7:30 p.m. and members of the Leeds Hose Co. are requested for 8 p.m. services.

a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, in the funeral home with Rev. Dennis Mills, Pastor of the
Leeds Reformed Church officiating.

Richard J. Mazanowski
Vietnam veteran
Catskill—Richard J. Mazanowski, 52, of 711 West Main St. in Catskill, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002 at home after a short illness.
He was born Feb. 22, 1950, in Perth Amboy, N. J., the son of Walter Mazanowski of Aveneo, N. J. and the late Veronica (Travers) Mazanowski.
He served in the U. S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an employee of the New York State Department of Parks, and Recreation in Albany prior to his illness.
Mr. Mazanowski is survived by his aforementioned father; his wife Marilyn A. (Harlano) Mazanowski of Catskill; daughters Katie Groves of Winston-Salem, N. C., and Christa Voulgarelis of Roseville, Calif.; a stepson, John Fratangelo of New Jersey; two stepdaughters, Dawn Fratangelo of the Bronx and Danielle Mayerhofer of Albany; two sisters, Joyce Meyer of Seaside Height, N. J., and Patricia Zaticano of Franklin, N. J., two grand children, Keaton and Miranda Voulgarelis of Roseville, Calif.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Relative and friends may call at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights in Catskill, on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.; as well as Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29 at the funeral home. The Rev. John J. Murphy, pastor of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church of Catskill will be officiating. Private cremation will be performed at Park View Cemetery in Schenectady.

Josephine Baldi
Loved knitting and gardening
Catskill—Josephine Baldi, 86, of 638 Vosenkill Road, Catskill, died Dec. 27 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson after a long illness.
She was born in Jamaica, New York on July 18, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Mary (Fiorillo) Esposito.
She had been a resident of Catskill for 30 years. She was also a communicant of St. Patrick’s R. C. Church in Athens. Josephine loved to solve word puzzles, knit, save important newspaper articles and garden.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ascanio of Queens and Patricia Hamby of California; three grandchildren, Anthony Viescio, Cherylann Ezzo, and Alex Matthews; and three great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Richards Funeral Home, 28 North Vernon street, Athens Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick’s R. C. Church in Athens. Reverend Fr. Richard Doyle, Pastor, will be celebrant.
Internment will follow next to
her late husband Rosario in the family plot in St. Patrick’s Cemetery,
Catskill.

Walter D. Reinsdorf
Professor and author
Athens—Walter D. Reinsdorf, 71, died on Dec. 27, 2002.
He was born on Nov. 22, 1931 on Staten Island, N. Y.
He attended Colgate University, graduated from Wagner College, received and M. A. from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
He was a captain in the United States Marine Corps.
He was a professor of English at Siena College, Russell Sage Evening Division, and Columbia-Greene Community College. He was a published author in periodicals and academic journals. He studied theology and was a parishioner at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Athens. He was an avid reader and writer.
Walter was a husband of 47 years to Lucille; father of seven children, Walter, Ellen, Peter, Paul, Susan, Judy and Andrew; grandfather of 12 children, Alexander, Dylan, Kaveh, Sahar, Justin, Nicholas, Samantha, Austin, Emma, Kate, Jacob and Evan; father-in-law to Laurie, Mehran, Mary Derya, Mark, Ken and Meredith; brother of Richard Reinsdorf and Carol Kerr.
Calling hours will be held in the W. C. Brady Sons Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003 from 6 to 9 p.m.
A Mass Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003 at 9 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Athens.
Interment will follow the Mass in the Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, N. Y.

George F. Sofia
Motion picture operator
Catskill—George F. “Curly” Sofia, 91, of 58 Valley Road, Catskill, died Sunday morning, Dec. 29, 2002 at home.
He was born March 11, 1911 in Brooklyn, the son of the late Vincent and Lubie (Pisarasky) Sofia.
Formerly of Brooklyn, Mr. Sofia was a motion picture operator and was a member of Local 306.
He later was an audio visual technician for the New York City Board of Education.
Mr. Sofia had been a Catskill area resident since 1973.
Survivors include his wife of over 69 years, Mrs. Julia A. (Damiani) Sofia of Catskill; a son, James Sofia of Freehold; two daughters, Lynn Edelman of Schenectady and Barbara Young of Catskill; five grandchildren, Valerie Ciecirski, Edward Young, Debra Sofia, Glenn Young, Micha Edelman; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Private cremation was performed at Park View Crematory in Schenectady.
A memorial service will be held 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan 1. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in South Cairo.
Funeral services are under the direction of the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, Catskill.

Ethel May Sullivan
Operator of New York Telephone Company
Lagrangeville—Ethel Mary Sullivan, 83, of a three year resident of LaGrangeville, previously of Yonkers, N. Y., died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002 at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie.
Born Dec. 27, 1919 in the Bronx, N. Y., she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lehman (Mary Scully).
Mrs. Sullivan was a long distance operator for the New York Telephone Company in the Bronx and Yonkers. She retired in 1984 at the age of 65.
She was a communicant of Church of Blessed Kateri, LaGrangeville and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Mrs. Sullivan was married Nov. 22, 1941 to her husband Francis X. Sullivan at St. Augustines in the Bronx.
Survivors include son, Edward J. Sullivan and his wife Sandra of Charlotte, N. C.; son, John V. Sullivan and his wife Esther, of Fairfax, Va., daughter, Theresa E. Rodriguez and her husband Raul, of Yonkers; son Richard J. Sullivan and his wife Antoinette, of Cornwall; son, Gerald M. Sullivan and his wife Ellen, of Catskill; daughter, Mary F. Cabral and her husband Ronald, of LaGrangeville; brother, Vincent Lehman of the Bronx; brother, Jams Lehman of Upper Darby, Pa.; sister, Marian Mullins of Babylon, N.Y.; grandchildren, Ryan, Kelley, Traci, Brandon, Maryann, Jonathon, Sarah, and Tara Sullivan; Gregory and Christopher Cabral; April Eaton and her husband Christopher; Arlene and Bridget Rodriguez; Robert, Kelly, Cate, and Joseph Seward; a great-grandchild Britney Rodriguez and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc. 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, N. Y.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the Church of Blessed Kateri, Route 82 LaGrangeville.
Interment will be follow at St. Denis Cemetery, Hopewell Junction.

Blanche C. Bennett
Former Coxsackie resident
Windsor, VT—Blanche C. Bennett, 72, passed away Dec. 28, 2002 at her home in Windsor, Vermont.
She was born Dec. 27, 1930 in Cohoes, the daughter of Archie and Mary Etta (Sherman) Belanger.
She graduated from Coxsackie High School in 1948. She married Edmond E. Bennett in Coxsackie on June 24, 1950 and they moved to Windsor in 1973.
Survivors include her husband of Windsor; daughter Gail Bennett of Northford, CT.; son Lawrence Bennett of Orange Park, FL; sister Joyce Miller of Coxsackie; half brother Achille Belanger of Harrison, ME.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church in Windsor, VT. Burial will be in Memory’s Garden Cemetery in Albany, N. Y., on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003 at 11 a.m.
