GREENVILLE—Norma Baker, 71, formerly of Coxsackie, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Albany, NY.
She was born in Coxsackie on Oct. 11, 1932, the daughter of the late Arthur and Lillian (Smith) Beatty, Sr.
She was married at the United Methodist Church of Catskill on July 24, 1958 to Gordon Baker who survives at home.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Coxsackie. She was very active in the church, serving as financial secretary, singing in the choir and a member of the United Methodist women and the craft group. She was also a member of the Steuben Glee Club.
Norma was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family and a friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by her devoted husband Gordon. She is the loving mother of Alan and his wife Collen (Shuflet) (Shufelt?) Baker of Paso Robles, CA, Deborah and her husband Dennis Fox of East Greenbush, NY, Kathleen Sawicky, Gail and her husband William Bensen and Eric Baker, all of Greenville, Thomas and his wife Elizabeth (Meredith) Baker of Byers, CO, Sharon Baker and her husband William McCann, Jr.; brothers Arthur Beatty, Jr. of East Greenbush, Warren Beatty of Greenwich and Kelton Beatty of Pleasant Valley, NY; sister Anita Rosa Van Ness and her husband Ernest of West Coxsackie; loving grandchildren Todd, Bruce, Corey and Elizabeth Baker, Adam, Jeremy, and Aimee Fox, Michelle, Heather and Mark Sawicky, Jr., Matthew and Michael Brown, Chris, Heidi and David Bensen, Russell, Geoffrey and Rebekah Baker and Jordan Baker McCann; great-grandchildren Kaitlyn and Casidy Shook, Kristin, Kassidy and Accalia Bensen and Kamren Brown.
She was predeceased by sisters Rowena Bailey, Marguerite Simpkins and Norma’s first husband Gerald Cutler.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Wendy Steed at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at the United Methodist Church, 103 Mansion Street in Coxsackie. Interment will follow at the Greenville Cemetery in Greenville, NY.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may also call on Friday, April 2 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Sopris Funeral Home, Inc., 11877 Rte. 9-W in Coxsackie.
Memorial donations in Norma’s name may be made to either the United Methodist Church of Coxsackie or the Coxsackie Rescue Squad. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

ATHENS—Ludovica “Ida” (Kiubarl) Leszczynski, of Union Street, Village of Athens, died suddenly on March 30, 2004 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson
Ida was a member of the St. Patrick’s Church of Athens, the American Legion Auxiliary of Athens and the Rivertown Senior Citizens of Athens. She lived and loved life to its fullest.
She is survived by her daughter, Constance (Leszczynski) Pazin; grandchildren Nolan John Pazin, Patricia Smith, Beth Leszczynski, Debra Madorma and Brett Hartman; great-grandchildren Lee Ann, Jonathan, Emma and Joel.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Patrick’s Church on Washington Street in Athens. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Rivertown Senior Citizens of Athens. Funeral arrangements are by the Richards Funeral Home in Athens.

Police Captain
CATSKILL-- Capt. Anthony Thomas Passaretti, 81, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since March 28.
Capt. Passaretti was born in Corona, NY on April 7, 1922 to the late Oreste and Florence Barra Passaretti. He attended St. Patrick’s Academy and on April 8, 1940 enlisted in the United States Army. He served with the 48th Hospital in England, France and Belgium, transporting personnel and equipment as well as driving ambulances to transport the wounded under fire to First Aid Stations. He also served in the Philippines for four months prior to his honorable discharge on Dec. 7, 1945.
He earned the American Service Medal, EAME Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. Upon his return home, he joined the Catskill Police Department where he served from 1962 until retirement as Captain in 1984. He was a member of the Sullivan –Teator Post 770 VFW, a life member of Hose Co. #2 and the BPOE Lodge 1341.
Capt. Passaretti is survived by his wife Theresa Passaretti, whom he married on Dec. 11, 1981; sons Thomas of Florida, Michael of Catskill and James of South Carolina; their mother Margaret Passaretti of Catskill; sister Rose Stevens of Albany; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph Passaretti.
A prayer service will be held on Friday, April 2, 2004 at 11 a.m. on the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson heights in Catskill, with the Rev. John J. Murphy, Pastor of St. Patrick’s church. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday, April 1 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Members of the Elks are invited to meet at 7:30 p.m. for services. Memorial contributions in memory of Capt. Passaretti can be made to the American Heart Association.

CARLENE JONES STARR
Devoted Mother and Grandmother
Carlene J. Starr, 87, of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Catskill, died Thursday, April 1, 2004 at Hope Hospice of Shell Point in Fort Myers.
Born June 18, 1916, in Oneida, New York, she was the daughter of the late Anson R. Jones and Ethel Mortice Jones.
She was a graduate of Otego Central High School, and, after graduating from the State University College of Teachers at Buffalo in 1947, enjoyed many years of teaching in the public schools until her retirement in 1973. She moved to Fort Myers in July 2001.
She was a loyal member of the First Reformed Church of Catskill where she served on numerous committees, including the Women’s Guild of Christian Service, taught Sunday School and was their first woman Deacon.
She was an Honorary Member of the Fortnightly Club, where she served as Secretary and Treasurer, a member of the Gretchens Club, Atetikas and the Monday Club. Other local groups benefiting from her interests were the Girl Scouts, the US Census Bureau, Meals on Wheels and the Department of the Aging.
Survivors include her daughter, Pamela Starr of Fort Myers; a grandson, Chan Chouinard of Framingham, MA; a sister-in-law, Carol Becker Jones of Catskill; a niece, Cynthia Daley of Averill Park; two nephews, Jeffrey Jones of Catskill and Gregory Jones of Albany; as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Clyde A. “Bud” Jones, on May 16, 2001.
A memorial service will be conducted at the First Reformed church in Catskill on a future date to be announced followed by a committal in the family plot of the Catskill Rural Cemetery. Private cremation was conducted in Florida.
Local arrangements are under the direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Reformed church at 310 Main Street, Catskill, NY, 12414.

JOHN J. SLENZO, SR.
US Coast Guard Veteran
MARSHALLBERG, N.C.-- John J. Slenzo, Sr., 87, formerly of Riverside Avenue in Coxsackie, died on April 2, 2004 at the Century Care for the Crystal Coast Nursing Home in Morehead city, NC after a long illness.
He was born in Coxsackie on June 19, 1916. During World War II, John served his country with the United States Coast Guard.
While living in Coxsackie, he was fire chief for the George M. Scott Hook & Ladder Company. He was also very influential in starting the Coxsackie Rescue Squad
John was employed at Tobin 1st Prize of Albany for 35 years until his retirement. He was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. In 1990, John moved to North Carolina.
Survivors include his son, John, Jr. of Coxsackie; a brother, Guy Hallenbeck of Ravena and four sisters, Gertrude Beecher, Mary Hallenbeck and Jeanette Hallit, all of Coxsackie, and Arlene Hallenbeck of Florida.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to call at the WC Brady’s Sons Funeral Home, Inc., 97 Mansion Street in Coxsackie, on Wednesday, April 7 from 4 to 8 p.m.
A prayer service will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 8 at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 80 Mansion Street in Coxsackie, with the Reverend John Moyna, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot of St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery in Coxsackie next to his late wife Lottie (Fulcher) Slenzo, who predeceased him on June 4, 2001.

NICHOLAS J. MEO, Jr.
Korean War veteran
CATSKILL—Nicholas John Meo, Jr., 75, of 76 Thompson Street, Catskill, died Saturday, April 3, at home, after a long illness.
A native Catskillian, he was born March 30, 1929, the son of the late Nicholas and Lena (Gaffuri) Meo, Sr.
Mr. Meo was a graduate of Catskill High School, Class of 1949, and was voted “Best in Sports.”
He enlisted and served in the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He received the Bronze Star and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Mr. Meo worked in the food industry as a manager at Grand Union, Foodarama, Joe’s Food Market, and retired from Arbee’s.
He was an organizer and director of the Catskill’s Old Timers Softball League. He was a member of the Honeyford Memorial Post 110, American Legion and Big Brothers Association.
Survivors include four sons, Nicholas J. Meo III of Quakertown, Pa., Richard A. Meo of New Windsor, David R. Meo of Catskill, and Thomas J. Meo of Fishkill; a daughter, Susan K. Meo of Catskill; two brothers, John Meo of Hollywood, Fla., and Robert Meo of Catskill; two sisters, Jean Marino of Brooklyn; and Marianne Mattison of Albany; six grandchildren, Rachel Meo, Michelle Meo, Nicholas Meo IV, Aubrey Meo, Ariana Meo, Alexa Meo; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Meo was predeceased by his wife, Mrs. Varo Louella Meo on April 19, 1985.

EARLTON—Donald L. Duntz, 67, of Earlton, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at Columbia Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Born March 26, 1937, in Stockport, he was the son of the late John and Ella (Webster) Duntz.
Formerly of Linlithgo, Mr. Duntz lived in Earlton and more recently in the Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill. He was a veteran of the US Navy and had been employed with Conrail in Poughkeepsie.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Barkowsky Duntz; stepsons, Charles R. Flood of Nevada and Andrew E. Kilmer of Poughkeepsie; stepdaughter Sharon L. Gardner of Wappinger Falls; brothers, Richard Duntz of Germantown and Robert Duntz of Hudson; sister, Pat Horton of Hudson, John Goodermote of Stockport and Judy Horton of Stuyvesant; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, John Duntz.
Calling hours will be 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Germantown. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. David Coons, pastor of the Sought Out Ministries of Leeds, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mellenville Union Cemetery.

US Army veteran
HAINES FALLS—Frank J. Laurie, 72, died Sunday, April 4, 2004 at the Stratton VA Hospital in Albany. He was born in Astoria, Long Island on July 1931 to the late Robert and Margaret Laurie.
He was a US Army veteran, having served in Korea from 1952 to 1954. He was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
Frank enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and president of the Mountaineers Hunting Club of Palenville. He enjoyed deep-sea fishing and gardening. He was also a past member of the American Legion.
He was a professional bartender who owned and operated his own bar on Staten Island for many years.
Survivors include his loving wife, Marian Laurie; brother James T. Laurie and his wife Marie of Greentown, Pa.; sister Constance Heidler of Staten Island; beloved daughter Darlene DelVecchio; sons Gary Laurie of New Jersey, Richard Laurie of Staten Island; and Frank Laurie, Jr. of Bath, Maine; stepson James W. Cicuzza of Maryville, Tenn.; grandchildren Dennis Laurie, Joseph DelVecchio, Mausa Pero, Jessica Laurie, Michael DelVecchio and Ryan Laurie; three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by son, James T. Laurie in 1987; brothers Robert and William Laurie, and sister Margaret O’Brien.
Cremation was held at the Wiltwyck Rural Crematorium in Kingston. Services were private. Donations in Frank’s memory may be made to the Stratton VA Hospital in Albany. Arrangements are by the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home in Hunter.

HAINES FALLS-- Henry P. “Terry” O’Brien, 78, of Haines Falls, died at his home Monday, April 5, 2004, surrounded by his family. Born March 29, 1926, in Miami, Fla., Mr. O’Brien Moved to Brooklyn, spending summers with his family in Haines Falls, finally becoming a full-time Haines Falls resident 22 years ago.
His passions were family, golf, the New York Giants, either on television or live games, and movies, especially the classics. He was a member of the Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus, the Haines Falls Fire Company, Fire Police and a Haines Falls fire district commissioner. He was also a member of the NYPD where he was a detective for 24 years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Virginia; son, Kevin of Haines Falls; daughters Donna Myron of Freehold, and Linda Soldner of Greenville; daughter-in-law Denise; sons-in-law Edward and George; grandchildren, Brendan, Sean and Shannon O’Brien; Kelly, Eric and Lisa Myron; and Lorian, Stephan and Kevin Soldner.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frances (Marney) O’Brien and Edmund M. O’Brien. He will be dearly missed by his family and by all of those whose hearts he touched.
Calling hours will be at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. On Friday, 11 a.m. prayers will be heard at the Immaculate Conception Church in Haines Falls. Interment will follow at the St. Francis De Sales cemetery.
A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, April 17, 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Community Hospice of Columbia-Greene County or the Tannersville Rescue Squad.

CATSKILL—Elsa Laeske, 88, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at Columbia-Greene Long Term Care where she had resided since Jan. 26, 1999.
Mrs. Laeske was born on April 26, 1915 to the late Anton and Julia Spring Reich.
She was the wife of the late Harry Laeske, a locally known resort accordion player, who predeceased her on Oct. 10, 1960.
She was employed by Greene County as a senior companion as well as Gilfeather’s in Leeds, Wolff’s Maple Breeze and the former Great American in Catskill. She was also a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Athens. Mrs. Laeske is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Michael (Martha) Campanile of Patchogue; son George Harrry Laeske of Germany; sisters Mrs. Harold (Frieda) Post of Catskill and Mrs. Theresa Fischer of California; brothers George Reich of Chicago and Theodore Reich of Desert Palm, CA; two grandsons, four granddaughters, five great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son John David Laeske in April of 1969, a grandson and five siblings.
A committal service will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2004 at Pinelawn Cemetery in Long Island under the direction of the Ruland Funeral Home at 500 North Ocean Ave., Patchogue, NY 11772.

CATSKILL—Joseph Ferraro, Sr., 89, of 88 North St., Catskill, died Thursday, April 8, at home after a long illness.
Born Sept. 1, 1914 in Glasco, NY, he was the son of the late Santo and Rosina (Marrella) Ferraro.
Mr. Ferraro served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was stationed in Central Burma as a Tech 5 Surgical Technician and received the Asiatic-Pacific Service medal. He was employed by Peckham Road Corporation in Cairo for 24 years and also Callanan Industries of South Bethlehem for 11 years, prior to his retirement in 1981. He was a communicant at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church in Catskill. He was a great outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid bowler and a past member of the Catskill Hoe Bowl Mixed Bowling League. He also enjoyed his favorite hobby of raising flowers and vegetable gardening.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ann Rose (Antonelli) Ferraro on Oct. 18, 1995.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph Ferraro, Jr. of Catskill and Paul Ferraro and wife Lois, both of Catskill; daughter, Cynthia Montano and husband Anthony, both of Saugerties; five grandchildren, Chad Ferraro of Coxsackie, Paul Ferraro, Jr. of Newburgh, Jennifer Kargo of Catskill, Nicholas and Michael Montano of Saugerties; two great-grandchildren, Zachary Ferraro and Aryah Ann Kargo; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

MEDUSA—Minnie Z. Bell, 82, died peacefully Thursday, April 8, 2004 at St. Clare’s Hospital after a short illness. She was born Nov. 18, 1921 in Ashland, NY, one of six children of the late Warren L. and Zelpha “Brink” Case.
Minnie worked for many years at Becker Electronics in East Durham and the New York State Department of Finance. She was a woman of great strength and courage who will be missed by her family and the robins.
Minnie is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ernest Bell; children Kenneth Bell, Sr. of Colonie, David W. Bell and his wife Susan of Greenville and Catherine Mart and her husband Wayne of Glenville; seven grandchildren and fie great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 12, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81 in Greenville, NY.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, April 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Interment will be in the Medusa Cemetery in Medusa, NY.

GREENVILLE—Edith “Edie” Baumann, 60, died at her home on March 8, 2004.
She was born in Catskill, NY on July 26, 1943, daughter of Alice (Beaton) Sutton and the late Erik Sutton. Edie was a cook, having worked at Pine Lake Manor Resort in Greenville. She was a faithful supporter of the Greenville Library and was known for loving her step-children and step-grandchildren.
Surviving are her mother Alice Sutton of Cornwallville; her husband Ronald Baumann; step-children Neil Baumann and his wife Robin of Schoharie, NY; Kelly Sloan and her husband Kevin of Loxahaichee, Fla., Stephanie DeVillers and her husband David of Little Suamico, WI, Beth Anne Atcavage and her husband Ronald of Drums, Pa., brother Thomas Sutton of Cornwallville; sisters Elsie Allen of Durham, Emilie Sharkey of North Valley Stream, NY; Elizabeth Hendricks of Catskill; her loving aunt Leslie “Lady” Sutton of Cornwallville; 13 step-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

South Cairo—Leona N. Cairns, 95, of Country Estates died April 8, 2004 at Community Hospice at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born on Feb. 14, 1909 in Saugerties, she was the daughter of the late Millard and Mary Layman.
Leona has been an area resident of Catskill for 18 years. She started and was a charter member of the Citizen Hose Company of Catskill. She was a seamstress for the International Ladies Garment Workers Union in Saugerties.
She is survived by daughter, Donna Rightmyer of South Cairo; two grandchildren, Patricia Gibson and Peter Rightmyer, Jr.; and three great grandchildren, Kyle, Collin and Ryan. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Layman, and two sisters Hilda Doyle and Marion Johnson. Graveside services will be held on April 30 at the Catskill Rural Cemetery, with the Rev. Moore of Catskill officiating. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery on the day of the service. The time of the graveside service will be announced. Funeral arrangements are by the Richards Funeral Home in Cairo.

Athens—Gerald A. Foland, Sr., 75, previously of Clermont, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2004 at home. He was a master mechanic for Anchor Motor Freight Co. in Selkirk. Mr. Foland was an honorary retired member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union #294 in Albany.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Gerald A. Foland, Jr. of Indianapolis, IN; a granddaughter, Tonya M. Pulver of Pine Plains; and two grandsons, David A. Foland of Vicenza, Italy and Gregg A. Foland of Fort Bragg, NC.
He was predeceased by two sons, Henry “Hank” and Frank Foland in 1990, as well as by companion Phyllis Kolacy.

Gilboa—Donald R. Rathbone, 60, of State Route 990 B, died Thursday, April 8, 2004 at his residence. Born on Nov. 27, 1943 in West Point, NY, he was the son of the late Oliver Rathbone and Francis Smith Rathbone.
Mr. Rathbone was a high voltage lineman, employed by the New York Power Authority at the Blenheim Gilboa Plant where he worked up until January 2004.
He is survived by his mother, Frances Smith Rathbone, two daughters, Deborah and Rachel; a brother, Jack Rathbone and a sister, Judy Wyckoff. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a daughter, Rebecca; and a brother, Dean.

Hensonville – Dorothy E. Heaney, 99, died peacefully Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at the home of Peggy Haner in Hensonville.
She was born in Brooklyn, NY on Nov. 3, 1904 to the late Michael and Dora (Beasner) Heaney.
Dorothy is survived by her nieces Patricia Hosey of
Lindenhurst, NY, Virginia G. Heaney of Nyack, NY and Marion D. Heaney of
Saratoga, as well as a number of great-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers Frank, Jack and Albert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on April 19 at St. Theresa’s R.C. Church in Windham. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Ashland.

Founder of Columbia-Greene nursing degree program
Catskill – Joan Phillips Tompkins, 74 died Friday April 9, 2004 on Route 9W as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
Mrs. Tompkins was born in Brooklyn on Jan. 24, 1930.
She earned her bachelors and masters degrees from Columbia University, her RN license through Ellis and was working on her doctorate.
She married Harold E. Tompkins on Feb. 11, 1961 and was president of the Columbia Memorial School of Nursing from 1962 until its closing when she became founder of the Columbia-Greene Nursing Degree Program.
She was an active member of the Rural Health Network, New York State Nurses Association, past-president of Hose Co., #1 Ladies Auxiliary, past-president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Greene County, past-secretary of the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Judging Association, president of the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association Ladies Auxiliary, board member of the Catskill Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, past-matron of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #293, past-president of the Kiwanis Club, secretary of the Empire Chapter Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority, member of On-Ti-Ora Chapter NSDAR and a member of the United Methodist Church of Catskill.
Mrs. Tompkins is survived by her husband Harold E. Tompkins of Catskill; a daughter, Sharon Tompkins of Leeds; a son, Paul Tompkins of Charlottesville, VA: two daughters-in-law, Lori Redford and Susan Hartman Tompkins; four grandchildren, Mrs. Eric (Jennifer) Knutsson of Fredericksburg, VA, Mrs. Nick (Stefanie) Scott of Bath, England, UK, Kristen Tompkins and her fiancé Brian Hahn of Arlington, VA, Matthew Tompkins and his partner, Yvonne Brown of Arvonia, VA; and two great-grandsons, William and Benjamin Knutsson.
She was predeceased by her parents, William and Mabel Phillips.
Funeral services will beheld on Wednesday, April 14 at 11am at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill, with the Rev. Lee Hardgrove, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Town of Catskill Cemetery.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Tuesday, April 13 from 7 to 9pm at the funeral home.

Born July 4, 1916, in Catskill, she was the daughter of the late Metro and Eva Melnyk Solian. She was a retired employee of Abraham & Strauss in New York City where she managed the lamp department. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence Aubrey in 1980. Survivors include one son, Richard Aubrey of Stony Brook; four sisters, Mary Dellavecchia of Hudson, Rose Solian of New York City, Eve Macko of Freehold and Helen Foster of Lake Charles, La.; one brother, Metro Solian of Kingston; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Ann Corkery and Julia Desco, and one niece, Denise Corkery Reinmann. Mrs. Divone was a very active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Oak Hill and was a member of the Selerderma Society.
Survivors are her husband Frank Divone, two sons, Frederick Divone and his wife Sheila of Fort Lee, N.J., Kenneth Divone and his wife Brooke of Spring Valley and a grandson Jacob Divone.
Mrs. Divone was predeceased by a son, Thomas Divone and a brother Teje Brenner.

She was born in Athens, May 16, 1917 and was the daughter of the lat4e George and Katie (Hasford) Hotaling.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Gallt was employed by the Kaden Brothers Pocketbook Factory in Athens.
She was a member of the Federated Church of Athens. She loved to crochet, and to take care of her flower garden.
Survivors include her son, Charles F. Gallt Jr., of Athens, a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Patricia) Crewell of Athens, a brother Joseph Hotaling and daughter-in-law Mary of Ghent, two sisters, Sylvia Lackie of Athens, Mrs. Frank (Mabel) Nunziato of Ravena, a grandson, Lawrence Crewell of Athens and many nieces and nephews.

Morris – Ralph Anthony Kodrich, 54, of Morris, NY died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at his residence after a long illness, with his family and friends surrounding him.
Born Aug. 14, 1949 in Cooperstown, NY, he was the son of William and Iona (Southworth) Kodrich.
Mr. Kodrich was a graduate of Morris Central School and SUNY College of Technology at Delhi with an Associate Degree in electricity and sewage treatment. His most recent employment was supervisor of the American Cleaning Service until his illness two years ago forced his retirement.
On Aug. 15, 1971 he married Kathleen Brandow of Leeds. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing all his life, he was president for many years of the Butternut Valley Rod and Gun Club. He was currently fire police captain for the Morris Fire Department and a former driver and first responder for the Morris Elementary Squad.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen, of 32 years; daughter Kathleen Jeanne and husband “JR” Quick; granddaughters, Kajee and Desiree Quick all of Unadilla; brother, William and wife Henrietta Kodrich of Pennsylvania; sister, Ruth Williams of Fla; mother-in-law, Catherine M. Brandow of Leeds; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Reginald, Jerald and Richard.
Calling hours were held last week and a Firemen’s Memorial service was conducted at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.
Cremation took place at the Hillington Crematory in Morris.

Mrs. Schuman and her husband Anson operated the Glen Royal in Oak Hill for a number of years. She was employed at the Oak Hill Post Office and also enjoyed her membership in the Franklin Car Club.

Coxsackie – Jeffrey P. Wasson, 57, of Swezey Road, Coxsackie, died suddenly Friday, April 9, 2004.
He was born Aug. 11, 1946 in Albany, the son of the late Maurice X. and Florence (Osterhout) Wasson.
He was married in 1980 at Christ Episcopal Church, Coxsackie, to the former Frances Swezey who survives.
Mr. Wasson was a diesel machinist for CSX in Selkirk for 34 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1965-1969. During his service he had three tours in Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife Frances, his son, Jeffrey B. Wasson and his fiancée Shannon L. Thomas of Colonie, his daughter Jennifer H. Gilligan of Colonie, and grandson Andrew T. Gilligan of Colonie. He is also survived by his stepson, Timothy and his wife Linda Mallon of Coxsackie, stepdaughter Rosemary and her husband Joseph Hoffman of Coxsackie, stepgrandchildren, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Shannon Mallon, Nathaniel, Timothy, and Emily Hoffman. His brother Bradley and his wife Kate Wasson of Albany, and sister, Leslie and her husband Steve Carnrite of Syracuse. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Earlton – Manolo Calvo, 74, of 313 Laurie Lane, Earlton, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, in his sleep at home.
Born June 22, 1929 in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, he was the son of the late Manuel and Juana Riera Calvo.
Mr. Calvo was an employee of Amos Post Company in Catskill and retired after 25 years of service. He and his wife Virginia also co-owned and operated Greene County Travel until 1980. He was an avid sportsman, boater, and outdoorsman. He was a dedicated communicant at St. Patrick’s and St. Bridget’s church. Mr. Calvo and his wife were married June 1, 1954 in Spain. They settled in Catskill in 1956 where they raised their eight children.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia H. Calvo of Earlton; he was a dedicated and proud father of four sons, James Bagshaw of Leeds, Steve Bagshaw of Annapolis, MD, Nito Calvo of East Durham, and Fred Calvo of Catskill; two daughters, Barbara Bagshaw Rowe of Oakland, Ca., Nita Calvo Blauberg of Catskill; sister, Emilia Calvo Riera and a nephew, Miguel Ballester Calvo, both of Palma de Mallorca, Spain; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his twin sons, William and Michael Bagshaw.

Catskill – Dr. Shanmuga Govinda Sundaram, 61, of 32 Country Estates, Catskill, died suddenly in April 13, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in Hudson.
Dr. Sundaram was born on June 17, 1942, in Coimbatore, India and was the son of the late Govinda and Chitra (Govindan) Sundaram.
Dr. Sundarum was a local physician and surgeon. He was the only doctor in the United States to be board certified in four medical fields. He was certified in general surgery, family practice, geriatrics and sports medicine.
Every year Dr. Sundaram held a screening clinic for the Shriner’s Children Hospital.
He is survived by his wife Gomathi Sundram of Country Club Estates in Catskill, his son Suresh Sundram of Catskill and his daughter, Shobha of Manhattan. He is also survived by a brother Ramkumar of India and a sister Janakam of India.
Besides his parents, Dr. Sundram is predeceased by two brothers Rajaratnam and Palniappam and two sisters Pushpam and Palaniamma.
Dr. Sundaram was a member and Past Member of the Kedemah Lodge #693 of Cairo, a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, a member of the Cyprus Shriners, a member of the York Rite, a member of the Catskill Royal Lodge Masons 285 Catskill Council 28, a member of the Lafayette Commandery 7, a member of the Greene County Shriner’s, a member of the Director’s Staff for the Shriner’s Cypress Temple.

Climax – Brian M. Travers, 40, passed away at his home on April 15, 2004.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 23, 1963, son of the late James and Kathleen (O’Donnell) Travers.
Brian was a self-employed carpenter. He was a devoted family man and server of the community as a member of the Medway Volunteer Company. He was also very involved with his church as a communicant and religious education instructor of St. John the Baptist Church.
Surviving are his beloved wife Melinda (Rivera) Travers; three sons, Brian M. Travers, Jr., Brendan Travers and Sean Travers, all of Climax, as well as numerous other family members and dear friends.
Funeral services will be on Monday, April 19 at 10:30am at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Greenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00am at St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville.

Surprise – Gerard Alvin Wagner, 72, of Willowbrook Farm, passed way on April 16, 2004at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany following a lengthy illness.
He was born in New Orleans, LA on Nov. 28, 1931, son of the late Alvin Gerard and Rose (Cundiff) Wagner.
Gerard graduated from Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, LA, Class of 1947. He served in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean conflict.
He completed his education following his service to the country. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1956 and 1958. He then began his teaching career in Speech and Communication.
He was a member of the faculty of the University of Houston, University of Indiana, University of South Florida, St. Leo’s College and SUNY Albany.
Gerard was a published poet and continued to mentor and teach all who knew him. He retired from the landscaping business in 2002.
Gerard leaves behind his beloved wife of 48 years, Sarah (Bessie) Wagner of Surprise; his sons, Stewart A. Wagner and his wife Michealina of Riverdale and Dr. Clifford G. Wagner and his wife Claire of Saranac lake; his three grandchildren, Caitlin, Matthew and Mason Wagner of Saranac Lake, as well as a large extended family of loving friends.
Relatives and friends may call at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81 in Greenville on Wednesday, April 21 from 3 to 7pm. A memorial celebration will follow at a later date.

Greenville – Zane A. Chlus, 75, of Greenville, formerly of Pardma Heights, Ohio, died Saturday, April 17, 2004 at the St. Peter’s Hospice Inn in Albany.
He was born in Cleveland on Aug. 7, 1928, son of the late John and Constance (Rukowski) Chlus.
Mr. Chlus served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as an Army Intelligence Officer from 1948 to 1953.
He was a sales entrepreneur, self-employed in his won insurance business and also owned and operated a landscaping business.
Mr. Chlus was a dedicated family man.
Survivors include his daughters, Holly L. Tobin and her husband Bert C. Tobin of Greenville; Heather B. Chlus of Cleveland; and his grandchildren Noelle E. Sagan, Cameron Zane Sagan, William H. Tobin and Andrew D. Tobin, all of Greenville.
Mr. Chlus was predeceased by his beloved wife Betty Jean (Castle) on April 17, 2001.

Leeds – Glenn R. Latta, 66, of Leeds, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 17, 2004 at his residence.
Mr. Latta was born Sept. 25, 1939 in Conesville to the late Ralph and Annott Chamberlin Latta.
He was a graduate of Cairo-Durham High School and owned and operated the Dairy Queen in Leeds from 1979 to 1999.
He currently was employed as a welder with Taconic Farms in Germantown.
He was an avid woodworker and well-respected Rottweiler breeder for over a decade.
Mr. Latta is survived by his four children: Mrs. Joseph (Laurel) Gerardi of Queensbury, Mrs. James (Lisa) Bercier of long Island; Glenn R. Latta Jr. of Gouverneur and Grant Latta of Leeds; two daughters in law: Trina Latta and Kelly Latta; 10 grandchildren: Amanda, Nicholas, Sam and Joseph Gerardi of queensbury; James Matthew and Lucas Bercier of Long Island; Cooper and Gavin Latta of Gouverneur; Alyssa Latta of Leeds; two brothers, Ronald Latta of Coxsackie and Wilford Latta of Gilboa; a sister, Gail Forkan of Washington (state) as well as several nieces and nephews.

Westerlo – Blanche E. (Peggy) Freleigh Peck, 80, of Westerlo, died Saturday, April 17, 2004 at the OLMLC in Guilderland.
Born in Hempstead, L.I. on July 28, 1923 daughter of the late Ruth L. Chapman and Albert Freleigh. Step-daughter of Robert E. Ellis.
Mrs. Peck grew up in Indian Fields with her grandmother, Ellen Haines Chapman.
She graduated from Bethlehem Central High School. During World War II she worked at the Voorheesville Army Depot as a bicycle courier.
After raising her five children, she worked at the Albany Medical Center in numerous positions.
Many people may remember herby the numerous crafts she made which included Barbie Doll clothes, Christmas ornaments and quilts. She also loved to bowl.
Loving mother of Betty Ann and Richard Filkins, Margaret Ellen and Frank Zibura, Ruth Louise and Stephen Savino and Stevens James and Melissa Peck. Dearest grandmother Pamela, Kimberly, Tammy, Stephen III, Nicole, Douglas, Brian, Kayla and Kaitlyn, also 11 great-children; 58 nieces and nephews, many dear of Skipper, and dear friends Mary D’Alessio and Dr. Julio Sosa also survive.
Beloved wife for 59 years to Charles H. (Sonny) Peck Jr. who predeceased her in November 2000. She was also predeceased by her oldest son, Charles H. (Skipper) Peck III, her granddaughter, Wendy Ann, and one great-grandchild.
Her only sister, Elizabeth Jane Dunston predeceased her exactly two weeks ago, April 3, 2004.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm Tuesday at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Greenville.
Funeral services will be 10am Wednesday from the funeral home with interment to follow in the Westerlo Cemetery.

Palenville – Warren R, (Pastor Bob) Cross Sr., 64, of 74 Edgewood Drive, Palenville, died Monday, April 19, 2004, at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson after a courageous 18-year battle with lymphoma cancer.
Born Oct. 18, 1939 at Mosquito Point, Lexington, he was the son of the late Victor and Freda (Irwin) Cross.
Pastor Cross attended Onteora School in Boiceville. He served in the U.S. National Guard from Feb. 1, 1955 to Jan. 31, 1963. He was the owner of Bob’s Chevron in Palenville in the 1960’s, C&R Autobody in Windham and Palenville in the 1970’s and was shop manager for Laidlaw Transit of Catskill from 1995 until April 2003 when he became disabled. He was a member of the Gideon’s International and Full Gospel Business Men International. He accepted Christ into his life in the fall of 1979. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather. He pastured the Assembly of the Redeemed Church in Palenville for nine years and also taught bible study at home for more than seven years.
Survivors include his wife of more than 46 years, Delia Newcomb Cross of Palenville; his beloved children; Carrie Cross Swingle and husband, Robert of Palenville, Warren R, Cross Jr. of Plattsburgh, Lorraine Cross Wolven and husband John of Palenville; brother, Valmer Cross of Prattsville; sisters, Gertrude Muller of Phoenicia and Dorothy Van Valkenburgh of Saugerties; eight grandchildren, Jessica and Cabrina Collesides, Bethany, Michael, and Maribeth Cross, Zachary Stough and Nicole Minkalis and Caleb Cross;; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Calling hours are Wednesday 11am to 1 pm at the Traver and McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 1pm at the funeral home. The Rev. Roned Kelley, pastor at Dayspring Assembly of God, will be officiating.

Catskill – Eldon Rouse Moore, 98-year-old native Catskillian, died Monday, April 19, at Columbia-Greene Long Term Care where he had been a patient since Dec. 29, 2003.
Mr. Moore was born July 26, 1905 to the late Charles and Daisy Rouse Moore.
He was a graduate of Catskill High School and husband of the late Virginia Mae Winans Moore who predeceased him on Dec. 21, 1987.
He and his father owned and operated Interwood Farm located on Vosenkill Rd. where his father tended the cows for the dairy business and he tended the chickens for the egg business.
He began his “egg route” in 1928 and retired in 1980.
After his father’s death his brother Robert Moore worked the farm with him and the family continues to own the property. He was a member of Cooperative Extension of Greene County and the Grange Farmer’s Association. He served the First Reformed Church of Catskill where he was a lifetime member, as a deacon and elder of the Consistory.
Survivors include two sons: Roger Moore of Catskill and Neal Moore of Albany; three grandchildren: Mrs. Harold (Allison) Rivenburgh of Catskill, Steven Moore of San Francisco, and David Moore of Schenectady; two great-grandchildren: Megan and Matthew Rivenburgh of Catskill; sister-in-law, Honor Moore Riley of Catskill, Albany and Venice, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mr. Moore was predeceased by two sisters: Elizabeth Griscom and Helen Driggs; and a brother, Robert Moore.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8pm Wednesday at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.
Funeral services will be 11 am, Thursday, April 22, at the funeral home with the Rev. Vicky Eastland, pastor of the First Reformed Church, officiating.

Round Top – Franz O. Zoellner Jr., 81, of Vernal Butler Road, Round Top, died Monday, April 19, 2004, at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson.
Born in Germany, Feb. 23, 1923, he was the son of the late Frank O. and Hedwig (Ratsmann) Zoellner Sr.
Mr. Zoellner has been an area resident since 1974. He was a famous glass blower making all kinds of objects. He loved to fish, ski, and enjoyed working around his home and at his profession.
Survivors include his wife, Gerta (Gunther) Zoellner of Round Top; son, Peter Zoellner of Long Island; daughter, Dianne Rosenberg of Florida; brother Egon Zoellner of Germany; four grandchildren, Peter Zoellner Jr., Emily Zoellner and Andrea and Sharon Rosenberg.
Calling hours are Friday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm at the Richards Funeral Home, 383 Bross St., Cairo.

Preston Hollow – Irving E. Bonney Sr., 76, died at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany on April 19, 2004.
He was born in Putnam, Conn., on June 6, 1927, son of the late Edward and Margaret (Noble) Bonney.
He served for 31 years in the U.S. military forces, serving in the Navy and a brief tour of duty with the Air Force.
He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association.
Surviving are his wife Kathleen (Classe) Bonney; sons Irving Bonney, Jr. of West Warwick, R.I., and Paul Bonney of Grand Rapids, Mich.; five daughters, Bonnie Pauley and her husband Robert of West Palm Beach, Fla., Margaret Baker and her husband Gregory of Haynesville, Maine, Susan Turner of Preston Hollow, Patricia Roscoe and her husband Robin of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Kathleen Grinnell and her husband Harold of West Warwick, R.I.; a sister, June Walsh of White House Station, N.J.; 24 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister Mary Boulton.

She was a lifelong homemaker.
She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Furko; son Andrew Furko; daughters Joan Elsasser and Mary Fox; granddaughter Tina Arp; and sister Anna Halibrinova.

Rifton – Eric J. Roosa, 25 of DuBoise Lane, was recovered Monday April 19, 2004 in the Town of Esopus in Ulster County following a boating accident on March 20, 2004.
He was born in Kingston on April 19, 1978, son of Anne Aprea Roosa of Athens and Gary Roosa of Florida.
Formerly of Athens, he enjoyed mountain climbing, hiking, canoeing and poetry. He was self-employed as a tree cutter in Ulster and Greene counties.
Surviving are his parents Anne Roosa of Athens and Gary Roosa of Florida; brother Daniel Roosa of Cincinatti; sisters Diane Roosa of Rosendale, Christine Roosa of Kingston and Maria Roosa of Athens; two nieces, several cousins, aunts and uncles.
Calling hours will be held at the Guas Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., in Kingston, on April 23, 2004 from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm.
A requiem Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 24 at 9:30am at the St. Joseph’s Novitiate in Round Top. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

U.S. Navy Veteran
Leeds – Fred J. Wagner, 84, a current resident of New York State Veterans Home at Montrose, NY, passed away April 20, 2004 at the veterans home.
Fred was born on Dec. 19, 1919 in Belleville, NJ, son of the late Henry and Augusta (Jenke) Wagner.
Fred was raised at the family-owned boarding house “The Woodburn” in Athens and attended Catskill schools.
Fred enlisted in the United States Navy on May 11, 1943 and served aboard the U.S.S. Redfin submarine during World War II. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the Submarine Combat Insignia.
Fred met his future wife Helen Ruger while they were both part of the Athens Theatre Group. They were married in Athens on Sept, 23, 1950. They lived in Athens for many years before moving to Westerlo. Fred was a long-time employee of the Lafarge Cement Company in Ravena.
He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years in March 2003, as well as his sister Florence King and brother Henry Wagner, both of Athens.
He is survived by his sons Herbert and daughter-in-law Michelle, their children Lorelei, Susanna and Erica, Frederick, and daughter-in-law Christine, their children Neil and Carolyn; daughters Lorraine Hagan and her children Kaitlin and Kara, Marie and son-in-law David Johnson, their children Rebecca, Adam and Kyle.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at the Richards Funeral Home, 28 N. Vernon Street in Athens, on Friday, April 23, 2004 from 5pm to 8pm.
Funeral services will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, April 24, at 11:30am. Interment will follow in the family plot of the Old Athens Rural Cemetery.

South Cairo – Leona M. Cairns, 95, of Country Estates, died April 8, 2004, at Community Hospice at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
She was born on Feb. 14, 1909 in Saugerties, NY and was the daughter of the late Millard and Mary Layman.
Leona has been an area resident of Catskill for 18 years. She started and was a charter member of the Citizen Hose Co. of Catskill. She was also a seamstress for the International Ladies Garment Workers Union in Saugerties.
She is survived by daughter Donna Richtmyer of South Cairo; grandchildren Patricia Gibson and Peter Richtmyer, Jr.; great-grandchildren Kyle, Collin and Ryan.
Besides her parents she is predeceased by her husband Donald Cairns, brother Robert Layman and sisters Hilda Doyle and Marion Johnson.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 30, 2004 at 11am at the Catskill Rural Cemetery, with the Rev. Moore of Catskill officiating. The Rev. Holmes will officiate the graveside service.
The family will meet at the funeral home prior to the graveside service.
Friends and neighbors are to meet at the cemetery at 11am for the graveside service.

Ocala, Fla – Joseph M. Esposito, 39, of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Cairo, died at his home in Florida after a long illness.
He was born in Hudson July 31, 1964, and was the son of Joseph and Mary Esposito of Cairo and Margo (Drivas) Gavegan of Florida.
Mr. Esposito graduated from Cairo-Durham High School in 1984 and he was a resident of Florida for 19 years. While living in Florida, he was employed as a blacksmith.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife Sandra, two children Joseph and Angelina Esposito, two brothers Paul and Michael Esposito, two sisters Karen McQuoid, Kim Welsch, aunt, and uncle George and Sharon Esposito, uncle Thomas Egan and many nieces and nephews.
Interment will take place in Ocala, Fla., on Thursday, April 29, 2004.

Oak Hill – James H, Carlin, 70, formerly of Brooklyn, NY, passed away at the Stratton DVA Hospital in Albany, NY on April 26, 2004.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY on Aug. 25, 1933, son of the late James and Frances (Haggie) Carlin.
He served in the United Air Force during the Korean conflict and was employed at Brooklyn Union Gas for 37 years.
He was a member of the Greenville American Legion Post #291 and the Tri-Town Memorial Post #2229 V.F.W.
Surviving are his wife of 30 years Evelyn (Bogdanowicz) Carlin; niece Eileen Stapf of Greenville and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 30, 2004 at 2pm from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81 in Greenville.
Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Thursday, April 29 from 6pmto 8:30pm. The Greenville American Legion will conduct services at the funeral home on Thursday at 7pm and the V.F.W. will conduct services at 7:30pm.

Livingston – Brett P. Pelesz, 21, of Church Road, died Monday, April 26, 2004, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born Oct. 3, 1982 in Hudson, he was the son of Peter and Ann (Lezette) Pelesz of Livingston.
A 2000 graduate of Hudson High School, Brett regularly performed in musicals and was a member of the high school band, jazz ensemble, choir, select choir, men’s glee club and was the recipient of the top male vocalist award in the Virginia Beach Music Festival. He was the vocal student of Johanna Albrecht and Lorena Guillen. He was an Italian foreign exchange ambassador and was fluent in the language and was a member of the National Honor Society throughout high school.
Brett attended American Legion Boys State, was Rotary Student of the Month, participated in Area All State and All County Choir, editor of the senior year book, student council member and won numerous scholarships, including Joann Tanner, Ron Shallo, Hudson Educational Secretaries, Dance With Me and Lauren & Conner Peters Memorial Award.
In addition to his high school accomplishments, Brett was Minister of Music at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Hudson and a part-time organist and soloist for the Christian Science Society in Hudson. He gave private instrumental and vocal lessons, was a member of the Ghent Band, the Coxsackie- Athens Band, was a victorian singer for Hudson’s Winter Walk and musical director of Upstage’s “Music Man” and :Guys and Dolls.”
As a substitute teacher, he was involved with all three Hudson City School Districts. He also taught for one year at Cairo-Durham Central School District, doubling the size of the choirs and won 1st place in the Virginia Beach Festival in May 2003. He also directed Cairo-Durham’s production of “Sugar” last year and was musical director of this year’s “Bye Bye Birdie”.
Brett was a forthcoming graduate of Hartwick College with a degree in music education and was expected to sing at his commencement in May 2004. He remained on the dean’s list throughout college and was a member of the jazz and wind ensembles, choir, school opera, pit orchestra for musicals and a substitute teacher of the string methods class. He was also assistant conductor of the Hartwick Wind Ensemble.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister Stacy Pelesz of Livingston; maternal grandparents George and Marie Lezette of Hudson; paternal grandmother Tekla Pelesz of Hudson; uncles Rodney Lezette of Claverack; John Pelesz of Poughkeepsie and Daniel Pelesz of Latham; aunts Cherie Speer of Stottsville, Joan Miller of Hudson and Rise Kehl of Pennsylvania, as well as several cousins and second cousins.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather Harry Pelesz.
Calling hours will be held from 4 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, April 29, at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home at 110 Green Street in Hudson.
Services will be conducted Friday, April 30, at 11am at Trinity United Methodist Church, 555 Joslen Blvd., Greenport.
Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson.

Born in Earlton April 20, 1923, he was the son of the late Lewis and Wilena (Vermilyea) Conrad.
Mr. Conrad was a long time farmer and then worked for Peckham Industries as an operating engineer. He was a former member of Ark Lodge #48 F&AM and a member of the Earlton Fish and Game Club.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary (Jansen) Conrad; daughters, Wilena Thayer and her husband Steven of Milford, MA, Arlene Saucier and her husband Charles of Climax, Jane Kusisto and her husband George of Sewell, NJ; sons, Lyle Conrad Jr. and his wife Tina of Stafford Springs, CT, and Robert Conrad and his wife Cathy of Climax; ten grandchildren; brother Ernest Conrad of Leeds; and several nieces and nephews.
