Catskill - Frank Anthony Gabrielle, 71, of Catskill, died Feb. 26, 2007 at Columbia Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since Feb. 21.

Born on Brick Row in Athens on July 25, 1935, he was the son of the late Frank Joseph and Hilda Bathrick Gabrielle.

He was employed by various are mushroom farms, lastly at Bulich’s on Embought Road prior to his illness.

He enjoyed tending to his tomatoes and large gardens, as well as hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Phyllis VanZandt Gabrielle of Catskill; four sons, Frank A. Jr. of Palenville, Guy of Catskill, Michael Sr. of South Cairo and Darren Gabrille Sr. of Haines Falls; five grandsons, Michael Gabrielle Jr., Brandon Gabrielle, Jonathan Gabrielle, Darren Gabrielle Jr. and Frank A. Gabrielle III; three brothers, Timmy, Ricky and Louie Gabrielle; six sisters, Gerry Zowak, Georgianna Hines, Pat Wilko, Sharon Deyo, Diane Gabrielle and Eileen Szepessy; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Gabrielle in 1970.

Private cremation was conducted Wednesday at the Albany Rural Crematorium under the direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Athens - Nicola Multari, 71, of 199 Leeds Athens Road in Athens, died Feb. 28, 2007, at Albany Medical Center after injuries he received in an automobile accident.

Catskill – Robert Michael Powers, 56, of 912 Main St., Leeds, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007 at home; surrounded by friends and family.

He was born October 4, 1950 in Catskill, the son of Donald W. Powers and the late Joan (Anderson) Powers, Robert graduated from the Leeds School and Catskill High School, Class of 1969.  He owned and operated D & E Powers Garage Inc. in Leeds, a family business of 55 years, prior to his retirement.

Bob was a 39 year active member of Leeds Hose Company No.1 where he served a Past-Assistant Fire Chief, and Past-Fire Chief. He was also member of the Catskill Masonic Lodge No 468 where he served as Mason, Shrine, Hillbilly club member and Sheppard Club member.

Robert is survived by his wife, Mrs. Linda M. (Peconi Powers of Leeds; three children Robert W. Powers of Scottsdale, Ariz., Rebecca Synan and husband William of Palenville and Michael R Powers of Leeds; three sister, Ruth McDonald of California, Catherine Hempstead and husband Robert of Cairo and Mary Haliday of Connecticut; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn Synan, William Synan and Zoe Synan, all of Palenville; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Relatives and friends may call at Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Officers and members of the Catskill Masonic Lodge No. 468 will meet for services at 7 p.m. Saturday. Officers and members of the Leeds Hose Company No. 1 will meet for services and last call tones at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday evening. The Rev. Vicki Eastland will be officiating. Private cremation will be performed at Park View Cemetery in Schenectady. 

Spring interment will be in the Town of Catskill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob’s name may be made to the Shriners Hospital. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Athens - Nicola Multari, 71, of 199 Leeds-Athens Road, village of Athens, died Feb. 28, 2007 at the Albany Medical Center, Albany, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Columbia County.

He was born in Italy, April 5, 1935, and was the son of the late Fortunato and Maria Multari.

He has been a full-time area resident since 1994 and was a communicant of St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, Athens.

He loved gardening, hunting and caring for his greenhouse.

He is survived by his wife Maria A. Multari of Athens; two brothers, Salvatore and   Francesco of Athens; four sisters, Catherina Scicilano of Bronxville, NY, Maria Multari of Athens, Francesca DiPiazza of Athens and Rosa Vignagna of Yonkers; several brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws 26 nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by two brothers, Giuseppe Multari and Rosario Multare.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at the Richards Funeral Home, 28 North Vernon Street, Athens on Saturday from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m.

There will be no calling hours on Sunday.  Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 8 a.m. on Monday morning.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 5, 2007 at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, Washington Avenue, Athens.

Nurse’s aide

Hunter - Judith Anne Schneiden, 71, of Hunter, died March 1, 2007 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Born Nov. 17, 1935 in Laconia, NH, she was the daughter of the late Merton and Ruth Hisloe Switser.

She was a retired nurse’s aid who was formerly employed at Robinson Terrace in Stamford.

Survivors include seven children, Kenneth, Christopher, Cheryl, Cindy, Donna, Leonard and Alan; and 14 grandchildren.

The family is happy to know that she is reunited with her babies, Michael, Pamela and Dale.

Calling hours will be 2-4 p.m. today at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, Main Street, Hunter, with a memorial service at 3 p.m. conducted by Rev. Karen Mowk.

Cremation will be at the Wiltwyck Rural Crematorium in Kingston.

John S. Stemple Jr.
‘Mr. Fix-it’

Greenville – John Stemple Jr., 89, of Greenville formerly of East Berne, died March 1, 2007 at St. Peter’s Hospice.

Born Jan. 8, 1918 in Newark, NJ, he was the son 0 the late John and Teriza Stemple.

John had a dairy farm an was employed by the Town of Berne Highway Department where he was elected Highway Superintendent and worked for 37 years until his 1989 retirement

He was also a member of the East Berne Vol. Fire Co. for 25 years.

He and his wife traveled in their motor home and spent the winter months in Florida.

He loved to work in his garage, enjoyed working on small engines and was known as “Mr. Fix-it.”

Surviving are his wife Mamie (Weis) Stemple; five children, Dorothy Fisher (Doug), Mary Stemple, Robert Stemple (Audra), Virginia Krug (Robert) and Sheri Cucuruto (Lance); step-children,  Shirley Bryan (William), Arlene Lutz (William), Vicki Palmer (John), Lori Manning (Jerry) and Randolph Mahne (Michelle); two brothers, Rudolph and Patrick Stemple; five grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; and several  great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Veronica Stemple.

Friends may call at the Cunningham Funeral Home, Route 81, Greenville, on Sunday from 2-4 p.m.

The East Berne Vol. Fire Co. will conduct services at the funeral home on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Graveside services will be in the spring at the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Donald E. (Tony) Stroud
Vietnam Veteran

Coxsackie – Donald E. (Tony) Stroud, 57, of 30 Whitbeck Street, Coxsackie, N.Y., died suddenly March 1, 2007, at his residence.

He was born in Coxsackie, on April 7, 1949, the son of the late Walter and Florence (Mattice) Stroud.

He served his country in Vietnam in the United States Marine Corps, and was a member of the V.F.W. in Catskill.

He was employed by the C.S.X. Railroad since 1974, and was a member of Hose Co. 3 of Coxsackie. He loved camping and the outdoors.

He was predeceased by his sister Gloria Heath.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Diane E. Jacobs Stroud of Coxsackie; two sons, Jayson (and Carissa) of Coxsackie and Daniel Stroud (and Patricia) of Ravena; three daughters, Surena Mann, Sherry (Stroud) Santiago, and Virginia Stroud, both of Coxsackie; three brothers, Carl Mattice of Kingston, Walter Stroud of Louisiana, and Kenneth Stroud of Climax; a sister, Virginia Stroud of Cairo; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at the W.C. Brady’s Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie, on Tuesday, Mar. 6, from 1-3 p.m.

Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 6, at the funeral home, with Rev. Retta Lykens, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will take place in the springtime with full military honors in the family plot of the Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore.

Saugerties –   Jean T. Whalen, 71, of Edith Ave., died Friday, March 2, 2007 at the Kingston city Hospital.

Born May 5, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late John and Mildred Brewster Mullan.

An area resident since 1957, she previously resided in Brooklyn.

She was the former Saugerties area coordinator of the “Fresh Air Fund” for many years. She was a pack 36 den mother and volunteered for the Wild Life foundation and the Ulster county cancer drives.

Survivors include her husband, with whom she recently celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary, James T. Whelan, Sr. of Saugerties; four sons, James T. Jr. of Saugerties; Gary J and Glenn P. both of North Carolina and Jeff R. of Ulster Park, New York; one daughter, Geanine T. Eisel of Grand Gorge, New York; two sisters, Joyce Bruington of California and Nancy Mullan of New Jersey; 17 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her Fresh Air Son, NYC patrolman, Hero Rodney Gillis in the September 11 terrorists attack.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., corner of John and Lafayette Streets, Saugerties.

Catskill - Gary Allen Bulger, 59, of 24 Marina Drive, Catskill, died Saturday, March 3, 2007 at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

He was born on December 27, 1947 in Johnson city, New York, the son of the late Edward and Marguerite (Swesey) Bulger.

Gary was previously employed as an investigator for h U. S. Government Accountability Office in Washington, D.C. He was presently employed as an auditor for the NYS Office of Children and Family Services in Rensselaer.

Gary was an avid horse racing fan who coveted his Section G, Row J, clubhouse seats at Saratoga Race Course for many years.

Gary is survived by his wife, Margaret Stauble of Catskill; two sons, Todd Bulger of Tampa, Florida and Jason Bulge and wife Karen of Melbourne, Australia; two brothers, roger Bulger of Gilbert, Arizona and Robe rt Bulger of Mt. Pleasant, North Carolina; a sister, Kathryn Duran of Georgetown, Texas; one grandson, Macallan Bulger of Melbourne, Australia; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his former wife, Judith (Yuricek) Bulger on August 8, 2002; a brother Donald Bulger; and two sisters, Dawn Dodge and Betty Kinney.

Relatives and friends may call at Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, on Monday from 4 - 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday evening. Rev. Richard Jacobs will be officiating.

Round Top – George P. Zimzores, 76, of Maple Lawn Road, Round Top, died Friday, March 2, 2007, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, where he had been a patient since Feb. 26.

Born Feb. 21, 1931 in New York City, he was the son of the late Peter and Eva Zazakos Zimzores.

He was a former member of the New York state National Guard.

An area resident since 1993, Mr. Zimzores was a lifetime member of the Round Top Fire Co. and a member of the Catskill Elks No. 1341.

He also enjoyed boating and hunting.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 55 years, Janet F. Birtner Zimzores of Round Top; three daughters and a son-in-law, Laura Zimzores of Woodstock, Diana and Robert Gutierrez of Long Island and Maria Harrow of the Bronx; a brother, Bill Zimzores of Texas; a sister, Dora Asadoorian of Westchester County; and four grandchildren, Michael, Kristina, Jesse and Jake.

Funeral services will take place 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Richards Funeral Home, 29 Bross St., Cairo with the Rev. Retta Lykens officiating, The Round Top Fire Co, will hold services 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, Private cremation will take place Wednesday at the Albany Rural Crematory in Menands.

Hannacroix - Amedeo DiBartolomeo, 69, of Hannacroix, died Monday, March 5, 2007, after a brief illness.

He was born in New York City and had lived in Hannacroix for seven years.

Mr. DiBartolomeo had a masters degree in special education and worked as a shop and technology teacher for the Sachem School District in Holbrook until in retirement in 1993.

He had coached the Police Athletic League and Little League on Long Island and in Hannacroix. He also worked on the annual New Baltimore Ag Fest.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth DiBartolomeo of Hannacroix, three daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and Todd Vogel of Ravena, Donna DiBartolomeo of California, Kathleen and Ryan English of Middleburg; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert and Kathy DiBartolomeo of Troy and Daniel DiBartolomeo of Long Island; a sister, Marie Petrik of Ohio; and three grandchildren.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church in Coxsackie.

Fishkill - Ann K. Maikis, 90, of Durham, where she had lived since 1973, died Sunday, March 4, 2007, at her residence in Fishkill.

Born May 6, 1916 in the Bronx, she was the daughter of the late William and Mae Higgins Ford.

While living in New Hyde Park, Mrs. Maikis was employed as a crossing guard for the Nassau County Police Department.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of Knock Roman Catholic Church in Durham and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary in Durham.

Survivors include two daughters, Anne Bracken of Stormville and Denise Young of Natick, Mass.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Rudolph and Barbara Maikis of Yuma, Ariz., Richard and Rosemary Maikis of Huntington, LI and Kevin and Debbie Maikis of Gilbert, Ariz.; one brother, Arthur Ford of Islip, LI; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Rudolph Maikis, Jan. 15, 1999.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4  and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Home, 900 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Columbia Church, Hopewell Junction.  Spring burial will take place at the Oakhill Cemetery, Durham.

Catskill - Mario Odorizzi, 71, of Abeel Drive, died Sunday, March 4, 2007, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, after a long illness.

Born Aug. 13, 1935 in Tuenno, Italy, he was the son of the late Luigi and Virginia Odorizzi.

Mr. Odorizzi owned and operated Odorizzi Construction in Catskill for many years prior to his retirement.

He took pride in his masonry and construction work that is evident throughout Green County and surrounding areas. He also enjoyed traveling annually to Italy to visit with family.

He was an avid skier, antique auto and racing enthusiast and enjoyed Italian music.

Survivors include his former wife, Milena Valentini of Trieste, Italy; two daughters, Marilyn Odorizzi of Toronto, Canada and Lori Odorizzi of Ocala, Fla.; two step sons, Richard J. Morton of Widefield, Colo. and Craig J. Morton of New York City; a sister, Luigina Eccher of Long Island; two grandchildren, Daniel Stannett of Toronto and Alex Bari of Ocala; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sandra J. Frost Odorizzi, April 19, 1986; and a brother, Enrico Odorizzi.

Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, followed by a noon Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Bridge Street, Catskill.

Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Catskill.

Harold Tompkins
Volunteer firefighter

Catskill - Harold Emery Tompkins, 86, of Catskill, died March 5, 2007 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn following a long illness.

Born in Catskill on Aug. 27, 1920, he was the son of the late Harry and Beatrice Deyo Tompkins.

He graduated from Catskill High School Class of 1939 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Aug. 31, 1942.

He served during World War II on the USS Randolph and USS Saratoga as a aviation machinist Mate Second Class. He was stations in Albany; Newport, Fla.; Brunswick, Maine; Burbank, Calif. and Pearl Harbor. He earned the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign and American Campaign ribbons.

Upon his Oct. 27, 1945 discharge, he went to work with William Haas at his automobile dealership in Coxsackie.  He was then employed in Hudson at Milroy Chevrolet and retired from Condor in Catskill as their service manager in 1992.

A devoted 65-year active volunteer fireman, he was past president of Hose Co. No. 1, member of the Catskill Fire Police, GCVFA past president, an eight year director of HVVFA, Volunteer Fire Judging Association and Catskill Firemanic Committee.

He was instrumental in the development and construction of the Catskill Fire Safety Training House and served as a training instructor for many years.

He was a member of the Red and Blue Vests, Sullivan-Teator VFW Post 770, former member of the F.A.&M. Lodge 468, founding charter member of the Kiwanis Club (A recipient of the Governor’s Award), former Boy Scout Leader and founding member of the Catskill Boat Club.

He is survived by his son, Paul Tompkins and wife Susan of Charlottesville, Va.; daughter, Sharon Tompkins of Catskill; four grandchildren, Mrs. Eric (Jennifer) Knutsson of Fredericksburg, Va., Mrs. Nick (Stefanie) Scott of England, Mrs. Brian (Kristen) Hahn, and Matthew Tompkins and fiancee Yvonne Brown of Arvonia, Va.; three great-grandchildren, William Knutsson, Benjamin Knutsson and Alexis Scott; sister, Florence Gavigan of Catskill; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Doris Deer Tompkins; second wife, Joan Phillips Tompkins; brother, Chester Tompkins; and sister, Dorothy Decker.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, with the Rev. Joyce D. Wilkerson, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. '

Interment will follow in the Town of Catskill Cemetery. Friends and relatives and invited to call at the funeral home Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Member of the volunteer fire organizations are requested to attend 8 p.m. services.

CAIRO - Charles F. Vierheller, 69, of Roosevelt Ave., Cairo, died March 5, 2007 at his residence after a long illness.

Born in Brooklyn on Feb. 3, 1938, he was the son of the late John and Emily Vierheller.

An area resident for 21 years, he was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Cairo, and served in the U.S. Navy.

He was well known for his love of his friends and was always helping other in time of need.

During his lifetime he was a machinist.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Banks) Vierheller of Cairo; son, John Vierheller of Cairo; and daughter, Cheryl Chiappetta of Brooklyn.

Friends and relatives and invited to attend calling hours at the Richards Funeral Home, 29 Bross St., Cairo, 2-4 an 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart Church, Cairo, with Fr. Jeremiah Nunan, pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow, with full military honors, next to his late daughter Elizabeth, who predeceased him Nov. 13, 1991, in the family plot of the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Catskill.

Catskill - Donald G. Winans, 92, formerly of Catskill, died at his residence in Ravena on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 following a long illness.

Mr. Winans was born in Worcester on Dec. 3, 1914 to the late Earle H an Abigail Wade Winans. He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School and was a partner at Winans Men’s Stores in Catskill and Hudson.

Mr. Winans is survived by his son, David M. Catskill - Alice Marie Katto, 90, of Catskill died March 7, 2007 at Kaaterskill Care in Catskill.

Born in Queens Nov. 4, 1916, she was the daughter of the late· Frederick and Alice (Turner) Wolffe.

Formerly of Jamaica, Queens, she was employed as a manager at Kennedy International Airport.

Alice was a Greene County resident since 1970 and enjoyed playing bingo.

She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Katto, on Feb. 14, 1999.

She is survived by her daughter, Jean Salierno and husband Jerry of Catskill; grandson, Chris Salierno and wife Nancy of Catskill; great-granddaughter, Kiana Salierno of Catskill; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the Traver and McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m.

Funeral services will follow at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeremiah Nunan officiating.

Interment will follow in the Town of Catskill Cemetery.

She was born in Hudson on Feb. 9, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Ruth (Marion) Engel and Clarence Webster Miller.

She was married on April 9, 1950 in Mellenville to Louis C. LaMont who died Aug. 8, 1979.

Mrs. LaMont was a graduate of Philmont High School and Columbia Memorial School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse for Public Health and also worked in the nursery at Columbia Memorial Hospital. She was the deputy town clerk of Claverack, retiring on Dec. 31, 2002 after 20 years of service.

A lifelong resident of Mellenville, Gloria loved her birds and reading. She also enjoyed running Oak Knoll Gardens along with her family.

She is survived by her daughter Carol (Tom) LaMont Howe of Mellenville; two sons, Louis (Gail) Lamont Jr. and Henry (Wendy) LaMont, both of Claverack; and two granddaughters, Tanya LaMont and Erin Howe.

Calling hours will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2007 at Bates and Anderson Funeral Home, 110 Green St., Hudson.

Spring interment will take place in the Mellenville Union Cemetery.

Mr. Winans is survived by his son, David M. She was born on Nov. 8, 1945 in Catskill, the daughter of Edwin Ford and Elizabeth Louise (Loewenthal) Zinck.

Linda retired as secretary of the family-owned business, William B. Briggs construction Co., Inc.

She was a lifetime member of the Prattsville Hose Co. She was also a founding member of the Prattsville Rescue Squad and also an auxiliary member.

She was a member of the Lexington United Methodist Church and the Mountain Star Oasis 237 of the Eastern Star. She was also a cub scout den mother.

She is survived by her husband, William B. Briggs; daughter Tammy and son-in-law Randy Brainard; son Michael and daughter-in-law Diana Briggs and Connie Briggs, all of Prattsville; grandchildren Michelle Caruso; Michaela Briggs, Miranda Briggs, Shannon Brainerd, William M. Briggs, Randy Cory Brainerd and twins Cody and Brandon Brainerd. She is also survived by sister Patricia and her husband William of Round Top; aunts Evelyn Herdman of Lexington and Cecilia Rueda of New Jersey; her special cousins Barbara and Michael Costello of Long Island; and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at Decker Funeral Home, Windham, on Sunday, March 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Catskill – James Patrick Walsh, 82, of Greenville, died Saturday, March 10 at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn following a long illness.

Mr. Walsh was born in County Kilkenney, Ireland, on Nov. 17, 1924, to the late Patrick and Julia Brennan Walsh. He served in the Irish Army during World War and later emigrated to the United States. He was employed by Con Edison in Manhattan as a lineman until his retirement when he moved to the area.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Regen Walsh of Greenville; his brother, William Walsh; four sisters, Elsie Barry, Kit Sparling, Sheila Powers and Birdie Wells, all of England; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Mrs. Bill (Elaine) Behrens; cousins Richard and Mary Ann Peters of Athens; and dear friends John Horan of Fishkill and John Delaney of Ireland.

Private cremation will be conducted on Monday at the Albany Rural Crematorium with a committal service in the Town of Catskill Cemetery in the spring under the direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill.

She was a 1941 graduate of St. Patrick’s Academy.

Ms. DiPerna was employed as a supervisor for New York Telephone in Catskill and Albany prior to her retirement. She was also a co-owner of Lou’s Fireside Restaurant in Catskill for many years.

She was well-known for her artistic crafts, paintings and seamstress capabilities.

She was also a lifelong communicant at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Catskill.

Survivors include a brother, Cosmo DiPerna of Catskill; a sister-in-law, Mary (James) DiPerna of Catskill; nieces and nephews, Angelina Liberti, Josephine Cifelli, Janet Corbett, Joseph DiPerna, Michael DiPerna, Theresa Jocelyn, Vincent DiPerna, Mary Zindell, Linda Sassone and Carlo DiPerna; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Carmella Corbett and Antoinette DiPerna; two brothers, Nicholas DiPerna and James DiPerna; a nephew, Thomas Corbett; and two nieces, Anna Marie Bassotti and Lucille Baitchman.

East Berne – Blanch Gerard, 81, formerly of Medusa, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn with her family by her side.

Born Sept. 25, 1925 in Brooklyn, she was one of 14 children of the late Demetri and Sara Inzalaco Albano.

Mrs. Gerard worked at the Greenville Central School as a teacher’s aid from 1972 to 1981.

She enjoyed cooking for her family, playing Acey Ducey with her husband and grandchildren and visiting and talking with her sisters.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gary Gerard of Albany, Dennis and Sandra Gerard of Massachusetts and Timothy and Ellen Gerard of East Berne; three sisters, Yolanda Crudo, Lilly Watkins and Gloria Allen; a  granddaughter, “daughter” Kim Marano (Vincent); grandchildren, Greg, Dominic, Heather, Bryan, Stephen and Victoria; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Gerard Jr.; a son, William Gerard; a daughter, Laura Acherman; and two brothers-in-law, Vince Crudo and George Allen.

There will be no calling hours and services will be at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in the Saratoga National Cemetery.

Earlton - Barbara Ann List, 63, of Earlton, died Monday, March 12, 2007, at home with her family by her side.

Born Sept. 10, 1943 in Manhattan, she was the daughter of the late Elino and Lempi Juntunen Tyvela.

She moved to Staten Island at the age of one and attended Public School No. 3 in Staten Island. Upon graduation from eighth grade in 1957, she won the Peace Prize for her essay on world peace.

Graduating from Tottenville High School on Staten Island in 1961, she won the cooking award and graduated the following year from Claremont Secretarial School in Manhattan.

Mrs. List worked 11 years at Atlantic Mutual Insurance Co. on Wall Street as the executive secretary to the treasurer of the company.

In 1987, she moved to Eastham, Mass., where she and her husband, Clinton Bruce List, who survives her, owned and operated a cottage complex and where she worked part time at the child care center at their church. The couple then owned and operated a woodworking business before moving to Earlton.

Mrs. List enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading when not doing volunteer work in the communities she lived. For many years, she was a Sunday school teacher and secretary for the Sunday school.

She and her husband had recently become members of the Greenville-Norton Hill United Methodist Church.

Survivors, in addition to her husband whom she married in 1966, include a daughter, Jennifer Anne; sister, Maria Basinski of New Jersey; and a grandson, Adam.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Leeds - Warren Miller, 84, of Christy Avenue, Leeds, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born July 24, 1922 in the Bronx, he was the son of the late Warren S. and Nora (Garrity) Miller.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Miller was a police officer with the New York City Police Department in Queens prior to his retirement.

He was later the president of MetroLab in Queens for 20 years.

Formerly of Ronkonkoma, he was a Greene County resident since 1989.

He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Catskill, a member of the Catskill Elks Lodge 1341 and Knights of Columbus Council #572.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Carlton Miller of Leeds; five children, Denis (Marilyn) C. Miller of Cairo and Virginia, James Miller of Bozeman, Mont., Deborah Miller of Virginia, Catherine (Thomas) Mackiewicz of Northport, LI; and Thomas Miller of Leeds; a sister, Florence Fisher of Oakdale, LI; a daughter-in-law, Mavis Miller of Florida; five grandchildren, Colleen Steele of Texas, Richard Fresolone of Ohio, Jillian Mackiewicz of Northport; Edward and Susan Lattari of Long Island; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a son, Warren P. Miller Jr., on Oct. 18, 1990; and a daughter, Noreen Miller, on Sept. 18, 2005.

GREENVILLE – Agnes V. Kruzensk, 88, of Greenville, died on March 12, 2007 in the Kaaterskill Health Care Center in Catskill.

She was born in Brooklyn on Nov. 14, 1918, daughter of the late Edward and Cecile (Laboda) McGrath.

Agnes worked as a telephone operator for the Equitable Life Insurance Co., in Great Neck, Long Island prior to her retirement in 1973. She was one of the founders of the Levittown Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.  In Greenville, she worked in the cafeteria at the Greenville Central School until she retired in 1993 and was known as “the ice cream lady.”  Agnes was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  “We all loved her as the ancient one.”

Surviving are her beloved husband of 67 years, August L. Kruzensk of Greenville; a daughter; Mary Lindlau and her husband Roy of Greenville; a granddaughter; Mary Koelmel of Greenville; two grandsons, Roy Lindlau and his wife Penny of Star, N.C., and Joseph Lindlau and his fiancee Jen Ballenger of Cincinnati, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Michelle and Wally Koelmel of Greenville and Jeremy Lindlau of Springhill, Fla.

Funeral service will be Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church.

Interment will be in the Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

Greenville - John J. Mulqueen, 83, of Greenville, died March 13, 2007 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in-Albany.

Born March 24, 1923 in the Bronx, he was the son of the late Michael and Irene (Fordes) Mulqueen.

John served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, serving in Normandy and the Rhineland. He received the EAME Service Medal, Air Medal and Victory Medal. He was discharged as a T/Sgt. in 1945.

He retired from the New York Police Department in 1984 as a sergeant.

He was a member of the Greenville American Legion Post No. 291, the Tri-Town Memorial Post No. 7229, the Michael J. Quill Irish Cultural Centre in East Durham and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Very active at St. John the Baptist Church, he enjoyed driving people to and from their various appointments.

A fun-loving gentleman, he will be missed by his loving family and many friends.

He was predeceased by two wives, Margaret (Crossen) Mulqueen and Zita Helant “Kitty” (Byrne) Mulqueen; Candaughter, Barbara Melella; granddaughter, Erin Burns; and siblings, Michael, Mary, Irene, Peggy and Bernard.

He is survived by three daughters, Joyce Imbrogno (Louis), Margaret Samoyedny (William) and Eileen Bums (Jim); son in-law, Thomas Melella; 11 grandchildren; 16 Melella; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 8:30 a.m. Friday from the Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville, with a Mass of Christian Burial 9 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m.

Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Yonkers.

Cairo - Baby Raven Ashley Mae Raia, 3, of Route 32, Cairo, died March 13, 2007 at her residence after a long illness.

She was born in Albany on Oct. 31, 2003, and was the daughter of Joseph P. and Sally A (VanBenschoeten) Raia of Cairo.

Funeral services will take place 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2007, at the Richards Funeral Home, 29 Bross St., Cairo, with the Rev. Retta Lykens, pastor, officiating.

Private cremation will take place on Saturday, at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.

Besides her parents, she is survived by a brother, Joseph Floyd Benjamin Raia of Cairo; maternal grandmother, Paula S. Van Benschoeten of East Durham; paternal grandmother, Barbara Raia of Cairo; four aunts; and godfather and uncle Joseph Raia of Cairo.

Purling – Thomas Scott Canfield, 33, of Purling, died March 10, 2007 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Fairfield, Conn., of injuries sustained from a fall.

Born Oct. 15, 1973 in Brooklyn, he was the son of Rosemary (Herndon) Canfield.

He was employed as a carpenter, was an avid New York Yankees fan and had been an area resident for seven years.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sarina (Marr) Canfield of Purling; sons, Jacob and Christopher of Purling; mother in-law, Deborah Mattingly of Purling; brother, Robert of Wisconsin; niece, Melody; and several cousins and close friends

Private cremation was held Greenville, with a Mass of in Connecticut.

A memorial Mass will be held 6 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Church in Cairo, with the Rev. Jeremiah Nunan, pastor, officiating.

Deer Park - Anna C. Luba Buschkuhl, born Jan. 30, 1912, died March 3, 2007 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in West Islip following a short illness. She had previously lived in Deer Park with her son and daughter.

She was predeceased in 1995 by her husband of 56 years, William. She was also predeceased by sisters Helen Luba, Mary Hopkins of Riveredge, N.J.; and brothers Steven, John, George, Joseph, Anthony of Union City, Pa. She is survived by a brother Charles Luba of Hamburg.

Anna was the mother of five children, William of Catskill, Charles of Melbourne, Fla., Robert of Monroe, and Kenneth and Carole Aim of Deer Park.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Glenn Buschkuhl of Monroe, Tricia Rodriguez of Middletown, Michelle Wiley of Catskill, Donna Buschkuhl of Middletown and Scott Buschkuhl of Brooklyn; and four great grandchildren, Logan Rodriguez, Reese Rodriguez, Nina Rodriguez and Leigha Wiley.

Her life was celebrated by family and friends at the Boyd-Caratozzolo Funeral Home in Deer Park. She was buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Catskill, next to her beloved husband.

Donations in her memory can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Catskill - James Patrick Walsh, 82, of Greenville, died Saturday, March 10 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn following· a long illness. 

Mr. Walsh was born in County Kilkenney, Ireland, on Nov. 17, 1924, to the late Patrick and Julia Brennan. Walsh. He served in the Irish Army during World War II and later emigrated to the United States. He was employed in management by Con Edison in Manhattan until his retirement when he moved to the area.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Regenhard Walsh of Greenville; his brother, William Walsh; four sister Elsie Barry, Kit Sparling, Sheila Powers and Birdie Wells, all of England; man nieces and nephews; sister and brother-in-law, Bill and Elaine Behrens; cousins Richard and Mary Ann Peters of Athens; and dear friends John Horan of Fishkill and John Delaney and Rita Moran of Ireland.

Private cremation was conducted on Monday at the Albany Rural Crematorium with a committal service in the Town of Catskill Cemetery in the spring under the direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill.

Saugerties – Arthur Falk, 89, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Born July 18, 1917 in Brooklyn, he was the son of Walter and Emily Quehl Falk.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II operating in the Pacific Theater.

On Aug. 13, 1944, he married Fannie Vaclavicek, who survives him.

Mr. Falk was retired as a self-employed carpenter and owner of his own trucking company. He also worked for many years at Saugerties Lumber Yard.

He was a life member of the Centerville Fire Co. and member of the Blue Mountain Reformed Church.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Arthur W. Falk of Saugerties; two daughters, Linda Sapunarich of Smith’s Landing and Carolyn Zindell of Davenport, Fla.; a sister, Mary Buchan of Virgina; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two cousins.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Diana Bibza, in September 1999.

Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Buono Funeral Service Inc., Main Street Chapel, Saugerties.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Alley, pastor of the Blue Mountain Reformed Church, officiating.

Interment will immediately follow in Blue Mountain Cemetery, Saugerties.

Joseph Musial
Civil, steel engineer

Coxsackie – Joseph Thaddeus Musial, 90, of Coxsackie, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, in Albany.

Born in Maplewood, NJ, he attended Columbia High School and Rutgers University where he played football. He later graduated from Park’s Air College in St. Louis, Mo. where he developed a passion for flying. 

During World War II, Mr. Musial became a civil and steel engineer, stationed in North Africa with he Army’s 41st Arm air Corp. He earned North African campaign medals and was later transferred to Sicily and finally Rome, Italy in 1945. 

After the war, he became executor to the family’s Ironbound Steel Construction Co. in Newark, NJ, and played a small but important role of literally refabricating America. 

In August 1965, he and his wife, Diana E. Klinowicz Musial, moved to Coxsackie where he became the “gentleman farmer.” She predeceased him after 52 years of marriage. 

Mr. Musial’s enjoyed restoring the family’s Gothic Victorian home overlooking the Hudson and the antiques and collectibles he and his wife collected.

He attended St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Coxsackie.

Survivors include his twin daughters, Donna Mary Hallak and Susan Jean Musial Quinones; a son, Steven T. Musial; five grandchildren, David Pinkham and Mary, Stephanie, Nathaniel and Christopher Musial; a great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Gregory J. Musial.

Calling hours 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Brady's Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie.

Prayer service will be held 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be held Thursday at the family plot at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Hanover, NJ.

Catskill – Anna Alice Graf White, 91, died Friday', March 16, 2007.

She graduated from Catskill High School in 1934, where she lettered in basketball.

Mrs. White was employed at the Atlantic Knitting Mill on West Main Street and as a matron guard at the Greene County Jail.

She was an avid walker until her early 90s when she was forced to trek the halls of Kaaterskill Care during her final years. Her favorite stops were Main Street’s Joe’s Food Market, Newberry’s and Methodist Church (especially on Rummage Sale Day). On the way home, she’d stop by the family business, “Bill’s Chevron Station,” which was located at the corner of Main and Allen streets.

Bill’s was owned and operated by her husband, William White Sr., to whom she was married for 48 years and predeceased her on Oct. 19, 1982.

Better known as “Ma” and “Nanny,” she was also a Girl Scout leader.  She also enjoyed animals.

Mrs. White was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church, Catskill.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Betty White Jr. of Cairo and David and Nancy White of Catskill; daughter, Bonnie Sue Schrowang of Bradenton, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Patricia White of Athens; 17 grandchildren, David White Jr., Douglas and Mary Ellen White, Karen White, William White III, Chreyl and Adam Shaw, Jeffery White, Mary Beth, Debra, John Sheffer, Sara White, -John White, Valerie, Jennifer Schrowang and Rory, Robert, Sean and Cody White; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Elizabeth Farah; two sons, James and Robert White; and one granddaughter, Victoria White.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Coxsackie – Ruth Hotaling, 86, of Earlton, died March 19, 2007 at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill.

Born Jan. 13, 1921 in Purling, she attended nursing school at Albany Memorial Hospital and trained in New York City.

Ruth was a Registered Nurse specializing in obstetrics at the former Catskill Memorial Hospital, worked as a Home Care Nurse in Greene County and conducted the Farm Census.

Ruth was an active member of the On ti ora Chapter of the National Association of the Daughters of the Revolution. She was also a member of the Kaksackee No. 873 Order of the Eastern Stars where she held offices of Associate, Matron, Star Point of Martha and was the Grand Representative to British Columbia.

Ruth was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church of Athens where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Second Reformed Church of Coxsackie.

Ruth is survived by sons, Timothy and wife Elizabeth of Athens, Harry and wife Sueann of Earlton, and William of Earlton; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Nancy and husband Lee Palmateer,   and their ,children Benjamin, Elliott and Samuel of Athens, Leslie Albright and Dan Kohler, and their son Marion of Virginia, Timothy Jr. of Athens, Audra and Robert Misuraca, and their children Meghan, Danielle and Robert of Earlton, Heidi and Brent Albright of Florida; step-grandchildren, Steven, Robert and Jonathan Howard of Earlton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ruth was predeceased by her brother, William Overbaugh; daughters, Judith; her first husband of 14 years, William Van Heusen Albright of Athens who died in 1957; and her second husband of 41 years, Leonard Hotaling of Earlton who died in 2002.

He was a retired grocery clerk manager, having worked for the A&P Food Stores in the Bronx.

A loving father and grandfather, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Knock Council and the Greenville Irish American Club.

A friend to all who knew him, he will be missed by his loving family and friends.

Westerlo – Philip Stewart, 92, of Westerlo died Monday at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn in Albany.

Born in Albany on March 1, 1915, he was the son of the late Clinton and Lottie (Sherman) Stewart.

He was a longtime farmer on the family farm (now the Boone Farm) until a farming accident forced him to retire.

He joined the Albany County Sheriff’s Department and served as deputy sheriff for 19 years.

A lifelong member of the first Baptist Church of Westerlo he served the church well in several different positions.

He was predeceased by his wife, Dellite (Mackey) Stewart and a sister, Rita Stewart.

Surviving is his daughter, JoAnn Garry; two grandsons, Robert and Steven Garry; and two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Eve Garry.

A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Westerlo.

Kingston – Harriet Jones, 88, of Elmendorf Street, died on Monday, March 19, 2007 at Ten Broeck Commons in Lake Katrine.

She was a garment worker and was best known for Harriet’s Hot Dogs at Block Park.

Born April 10, 1918 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of the late Benzure Z. and Gertrude M. Jackson Lewis.

Survivors include three daughters, Jacqueline Timbrouck and Gwen Jones, both of Kingston, and Gail Elliott of Albany; eight sons, Grant Wheeler of Detroit, Mich., William Tinkley of Albany, Harold T. Jones III, Maceo Jones, both of Catskill, Keith Jones of Kingston, Dell Lewis of Statesville, N.C., and Wayne Lewis and Manuel Steele, both of Kingston; a sister, Arlene Harp of Schenectady; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A daughter, Gertrude Lewis; seven sisters, Geridine Roby, Jeannete Fennicks, Zelma Brooks, Marchella Wilson, Cristine Walker, Burdette Lewis and Evelyn Chambers, and two brothers, Edmund Jerome and Benzure Lewis Jr., predeceased her.

Mary Helen Cook, 81, of the Village of Athens, died on Feb. 4, 2007, at the Albany Medical Centerl, Albany.

Born in Hudson Oct. 23, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Leon and Julia (Yaratz) Zilnik.

She attended Hudson High School and worked for Kadin Brothers Pocketbook Factory. Mary was married to Walter R. Cook at Zion Lutheran Church, Athens, on. June 18, 1944. Together they raised two children, Mrs. Carlos (Patricia Ann) Vieira of New Bedford, Mass. and Mrs. Joe (Lisa Mary) Brady of San Angelo, Texas. Walter and Mary were very active in the work of Zion Lutheran. Mary served on the Altar Guild, was a Sunday School teacher, member of the Lutheran Church Women (LCW) and until recently served as the sexton.

In addition to her two daughters, Mary is survived by her grandchildren: Mrs. Joshua (Christina Mary) Amaral of New Bedford, Mass.; Joseph Daniel Brady and Ashley Lynn Brady of San Angelo, Texas; her great-grandchildren: Joshua Antonio Amaral Jr. and Jeremy Carlos Amaral. She is survived by her sisters Helen Matson of West Coxsackie, Margaret Laidlaw of Jamestown and Jennie Dinardi of Hudson; and one brother Raymond Zilnik of Mesa, Ariz.

She was predeceased by her sister Grace Zilnik. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held April 15, 2007 at 3 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 102 North Washington St., Athens. The Rev. Bruce Benander will officiate. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Window Fund.

In accordance with Mary's wishes, she was cremated and will be interred with her beloved Walter at Old Athens Rural Cemetery following the memorial service.

Syracuse - John E. Donnelly, 77, died Sunday, March 25, 2007.

Born Aug. 2, 1929, he was the son of Ruth and Edward Donnelly.

He was veteran of the Korean War and graduated from LeMoyne College

Mr. Donnelly was a lifelong employee of Carrier Corp. of Syracuse.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol D. Stevens of Windham and Mary Kay Donnelly of Liverpool, Onondaga County; two sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick and Laureen Donnelly of Camillus, Onondaga County and Brian and Deena Donnelly of Brewerton Onondaga County; five grandchildren, Jamie Donnelly, Jillian and Kimberly Stevens and Maggie and Kevin Donnelly.

He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret E. Donnelly, on Nov. 19, 1991.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave., Syracuse.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles of Borromeo Church, 417 South Orchard Road, Syracuse. Interment will follow at the Onondoga County Veteran’s Cemetery in Camillus.

Born April 1, 1921 in Gilboa, she was the daughter of the late Lillian Rogers and Grant L. Schermerhorn Sr.

Survivors include two daughters, Winifred Castle  (Sandy) of Vero Beach, Fla, and  Karol Garrison Luce (Brian) of  Schenectady; two brothers and  sisters-in-law, Grant and Nelva  Schermerhorn Jr. of Pennsville,  and Robert and Dee Schermerhorn of Cobleskill; a sister,  Ernestine Bier of Acra; five grandchildren, Joseph and  Eileen Dees, Herbert and Russian and French. In school Michelle Smith, Robert and Becky Smith, Sheryl and George Henderson and Beth and Carl Foster; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Russell Garrison; two sisters, Violet Schermerhorn and Dorothy Weaver; two brothers Basil and Ronald Schermerhorn and a great-grandson. 

Private cremation took place at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. April 7 at Richards Funeral Home, Bross Street, Cairo.

Madison, Wis – Anna K. Holm, 93, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at Hebron Oaks in Oakwood Village in Madison.

Born in 1913 in Scotia, she was the daughter of John Fredrick and Anna Maria Haapanen Nordfors.

With a Finnish ancestry, she was bilingual in English and Finnish and she could also speak Russian and French. In school she excelled in Latin. Throughout her life she corresponded in Finnish with her cousins in Finland.

 In 1932, she married Waino Johannes John Holm, who predeceased her.

Over the years, Mrs. Holm and her husband lived in Bellerose and Linlithgo, the town of Middleton and Madison, Wis.

Anna enjoyed children, and gardening.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Fredrika and William Feeny of Madison; four grandchildren, William John and Gisela Wilson Feeny, Edward Richard and Suzy Grindrod Feeny of Madison, Elizabeth Ann and Tim Roherty of Green Bay, Wis. and Brian Fredrik and Kwi Suk Kim of Okemos, Mich; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, including Patricia and Richard Uzzilia of Cairo.

She was predeceased by a brother John Edward Nordfors; and an infant great-granddaughter.

A memorial service was held Saturday at the Community of Hope UCC (Madison Christian Community), 7118 Old Sauk Road, Madison.

Interment followed in the church’s memorial gardens.

Catskill - John Vestic, 75, of Catskill, died Friday, March 23, 2007, at Albany Medical Center, where he had been a patient since March 21.

Born Sept. 14, 1931 in Drnis, Croatia, he was the son of the late Bozo and Ana Bojcic Vestic.

He graduated from high school and four years of college prior to immigrating to the United States in 1956.

He and his wife resided in Catskill for the past two years and he constructed houses during his retirement.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, John M. Vestic of Tarpon Springs, Fla; a daughter, Maryana L. Vestic of Brooklyn; a brother, Slavko Vestic; a sister, Katica Copic; and several nieces and nephews in Croatia.

Private committal services will be held today at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Catskill under the direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Dennysville, Maine - Caroline “Tudy” Viscovitch, 97, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at a Bangor health care facility.

Born June 20, 1909 in Eastport, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Lena Hume Jonah.

She was a graduate of Shead High School, Eastport and Waylock’s Finishing School.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Clifford “Bruce” and Anita Turner of  Bangor, Maine; a step son and his wife, Robert and Kay Viscovitch of Indianapolis, Ind,; a step daughter, Pat Viscovitch of Freehold; five grandchildren Dan Pugsley, Dawn and Ralph Powell, Robin and Todd Hasse, Ken Suttmeier and Chris Suttmeier; and a nephew.

She was predeceased by her husband, Louis Viscovitch her sister, Margaret Savage; a niece; and her dear friend Leona Kendall

A service of remembrance will be held later this summer.

Greenville – Fred Johnson, 80, of Freehold died at Albany Medical Center on March 26, 2007.

He was born in New York City on April 27, 1926, the son of the late Frederick and Molly (McDonald) Johnson.

He served his country during World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy and received the American Theater Medal, the Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Medal.

Fred was a retired New York City fireman. He loved boxing and swimming in the ocean whenever he could.

He will be remembered as one who would help anyone in need and a friend to all who met him. His family will remember him as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Use (Urban) Johnson; two sons, Peter Johnson (Debra), Fred Johnson (Natalie); two daughters, Cheryl Maylo (Richard), Susan Terpak (Richard); eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service, to which all friends and relative are invited, will be held Saturday, March 31 at 11 a.m. at the South Westerlo C.C. Church in South Westerlo.

Those who desire may contribute in his memory to the American Cancer Society or a cancer research group of your choice.

She was a longtime resident of the Athens Reformed Church, and a member of the Athens Garden Club, Friends of the Library and the Athens Betterment Committee.

Agnes did her training as a registered nurse at the Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn.

She moved to Athens in the late 1960s and retired from the Coxsackie Correctional Facility as a registered nurse.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara A. Steyert of Athens; two grandchildren, Chrisa O’Connell and husband John, and Peter Galante and wife Valerie; and two great-grandchildren, Casey John O’Connell and wife Madelyn Ann, and Sofia Galante and husband Lise.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by a brother, John Nelson; her first husband, William F. Steyert and her second husband, Harry Swenson.

Private cremation services will take place today at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.

Interment of her cremains will take place at a later date in the Pine Lawn National Cemetery in Farmingdale, Long Island.

A memorial service will take place at the convenience of the family.

Mr. Mack was a mechanic at Marshal’s Garage in Ravena for 17 years.

He loved to hunt and fish and played drums in a band named The Polka Five.

Survivors include a son, Daniel Mack of Ghent; two daughters, Phyllis Morehouse of Glenmont and Lina Mack of Delmar; stepchildren, Carol Goff Wilsey of Latham, Sidney Goff of East Durham, Sandy Goff of Albany and Sharon Goff of Earlton; a sister, Marie Michaelson of East Durham; a brother, George Mack of Kingston; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Evah Deyo Mack, a sister, Caroline Rusack; a brother Fred Mack and a step-daughter, Shirley Hillicoss.

He was as native of Broccosella, Italy and was the companion of Ellen Tilelli.

He was the father of Robert Cippitelli, Ann Marie Kristyensen, Daniella Abruzzo, the brother of Delfina Tersigni, John Cippitelli, Enzo Cippitelli and is survived by two grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial was offered by Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church.

Entombment was in Pinelawn Memorial Park under the direction of Park Funeral Chapels, 2175 Jericho Turnpike Garden City Park, N.Y. 11040.

Catskill – Dominick DiMartino, 65, of 51 North St., Catskill; died March 28, 2007 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 11, 1942 in Sicily, he was the son of the late Antonio and Eucristica (Dolce) DiMartino.

Formerly of Bayshore, Long Island, he was a barber at DiStefano’s Barber Shop in Catskill prior to his disability.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Janine DiMartino on May 1, 1983.

Mr. Dimartino is survived by three daughters, Doreen Petito and husband John of Staten Island, Angela Rana and husband Mario of Scottsdale, AZ, and Gina Rescigno of Catskill; brother, Charles DiMartino of Long Island; sister, Mae Byre of Forest Hills; Eight grandchildren, Mario, Vincent, Joseph, James, Janine, Johnny, Nicholas and Domonique; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at Traver and McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, on Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon.

Funeral service will follow at noon at the funeral home. Rev. Richard Jacobs will be officiating.
