Saugerties – Ruth Vivian Gunderud, 80, of Barclay Lane died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006 at the Kingston Hospital after a brief illness. 

Born April 29, 1926, in Pine City, PA., she was the daughter of the late Paul D. and Edna Kennemuth Webb.

An area resident since 1963, she previously resided in Mount Jewett, Pa.

She was a retired employee of the Telephone Company in Kane, Pa.

She was a member of the Saugerties Atonement Lutheran Church where she was the Children’s Choir Director for many years. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Pennsylvania and a member of the Saugerties Knight Owls, the Couples Club of the Atonement Church and Craft Club.

Predeceased by her first husband, Loyd Mellander, in 1988, survivors include her husband, Harry R. Gunderud; two sons, Dennis L. Mellander of Pavillion and Edwin P. Mellander of Central Valley; one daughter, Susan J. Decker of Northville; two stepsons, Richard Gunderud of Hazlet, NJ., and Stanley Gunderud of Poughkeepsie; two stepdaughters, Barbara Rutigliano of Toms River, NJ, and Harriet Clifford of Toms River, NJ., two brothers, Harry Arden Webb of Wyoming, NY, and Paul Dale Webb of Tioga Junction, Pa.; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Joann Webb.

Her funeral procession will form 9:15am Monday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. corner of John and Lafayette Streets, thence to the Saugerties Atonement Lutheran Church where at 10am her funeral services will be conducted by the Rev, Edward R. Schreiber, pastor. Interment will follow in the Mount Marion Cemetery.

Anthony Ingui

Athens – Anthony Ingui, 82, of Eddy Cohoes Rehab Center, formerly of Route 385 in Athens, died Sept. 30, 2006, at Albany Medical Center.

Born Sept. 17, 1924 in the Bronx, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Concette Ingui.

He was the oldest member in his class at Columbia-Greene Community College, when it was located in Athens, receiving an associate’s degree in accounting.

Mr. Ingui was a television repair technician in the Ravena department store.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and he also liked gardening.

Survivors include a son, Richard A. of Ballston Lake, Saratoga County; two daughters and sons-in-law; Diane and Frederick Reutzel of Castleton and Denise and Joseph Revette of Coxsackie; six grandchildren Andy, Eric, Amy, Deborah, Brett and Jennifer; and four great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife Rose, in 1999; and a brother, Frederick.

Calling hours will be 9 to 11am Thursday at the WC Brady’s Sons funeral home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am Thursday at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Coxsackie.

Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery next to his late wife.

William F. Penniston
Farmer/truck driver

Bennington, Vt. – William F. Penniston, 68, a resident of Bogtown Road in Salem, Washington County, also known as “Santa Claus”, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington following a battle with cancer.

Born Sept. 28, 1938 in Torrington, Conn., he was the son of the late Rhoda and Franklin Johnson, and the grandson of the late Margaret and William Penniston, who raised him.

Mr. Penniston was as a farmer, a garbage truck driver and lastly retired from driving truck for 23 years at Sega Ready Mix in Connecticut.

He was a member of the Water Witch Hose Co. #2 of New Milford, Conn.

Mr. Penniston enjoyed spending time in Salem, taking long rides in the country and helping Santa Claus bring joy to children. He also helped friends with farming during the summer months.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Cindy of Catskill and Shawn and Katie of Acra; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Marty Johnson of Sherman, Conn., and Walter and Roby Johnson of New Milford; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Patricia Johnson of East Haven, Conn., and Sarah and Robert Wocjiekowski of New Milford; four grandchildren, Carrie, Matthew, Carter and Dillonl one great-granddaughter; his companion,  Betty Hartnett of Berlin and her children, Gini, Lloyd, Linda, Michael, Roy and Tim; several nieces, nephews and friends.

There will be no calling hours.

A celebration of his life will held at a later date to be determined by the family.

Interment will be private.

Catskill – Ossie Lee Ruff Thomas, 86, of Orchard Estates in Catskill, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at home.

Born June 6, 1920 in Warrenton, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Linder R. and Bertha Sheldon Ruff.

Mrs. Thomas was a longtime member of Mount Tabor AME Zion Church in Catskill, where she served as an usher and member of the missionary board and senior choir.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Grady Thomas of Catskill; a daughter, Wyvonnie Turner of Albany; three sisters, Vallie Ruff and Marion Evans, both of Catskill and Myrtice Ruff of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother and sister-in-law, Willie and Pauline Ruff of Glenville, Ga.; four grandchildren, David W. Turner, Carl Turner and Grady Turner all of Albany and Rosalind Harris of Guilderland; a special cousin, Gladys Lee of Catskill; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Nona Ruff Ivery, Artie Lou Hill and Iris Thomas; two brothers, Morris Ruff and Emery Ruff; a son-in-law, William Turner; and a grandson, Walter Turner.

A calling hour will be noon to 1pm Wednesday at the Mount Tabor A.M.E. Zion Church, Water Street, Catskill.

Funeral services will immediately follow at 1pm with the Rev. Moses Carter officiating.

Cairo – Gaetana Zinnanti, 88, of Birch Street in Cairo, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at Kaaterskill Care in Catskill.

Born Nov. 23, 1917 in Lawrence, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Angelina Montalto Marino.

Mrs. Zinnanti was a member and past president of the Catskill Lady Elks.

Survivors include by her husband of more than 70 years, Anthony Zinnanti Sr. of Cairo; four sons and daughters-in-law, Louis and Diane Zinnanti of Chatham, Mass., Anthony and Marina Zinnanti of Southwest Ranches, Fla., Richard and Eileen Zinnanti of Red Hook and Thomas and Mary Zinnanti of Alpharetta, Ga.; a brother, Michael Marino of Edison, NJ.; three sisters, Josephine Agosto of Glendale, Queens County, Mae Schimmenti of Flushing, Queens County, and Rita Verrone of Toms River, NJ,; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Antoinette Busa.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm Tuesday at Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Funeral services will be held 10:15am Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by an 11am Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, Mountain Avenue, Cairo with the Rev. John J. Murphy, pastor, officiating.

Cremation will be performed at Park View Cemetery in Schenectady.

Interment at Saratoga National Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.

Kodak, Tenn. – Jennie Frances Thomas, 56, of Kodak, Tenn., died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006 at St. Mary’s Residential Hospice Facility.

Mrs. Thomas was a member of the Damplin Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Thomas of Kodak; five children, Fran Morse and husband Marvin, Charles Schermerhorn and wife Shawna, Candie Wolfenbarger, Eliza Schermerhorn and significant other Kevin Kasbrouck and Rebecca Rainbolt and husband Michael; four brothers, Walter Brandow, Louis Brandow, Harold Dedrick and Paul Dedrick; two sisters, Barbara Benjamin and Patricia Lamont; 12 grandchildren, Brandy, Caesy, Barbara, Brittany, Jennifer, Charles, Brianna, Bryan, Kaitlynn, Kevin, Cheyenne and Dawn; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Barbara Brandow of Athens.

Jackson – Anna M. Jackson, 83 years, of Preston Hollow, NY passed away at the Country Care Center in Delhi, NY on Sept. 29, 2006. Anna Mary Galligan was born

In Brooklyn, NY on Sept. 30, 1923. She was the eldest of three children with two younger brothers, Lawrence & Eugene, neither of whom married or had children. Her parents were both Irish immigrants. Her father was a conductor for the railroad. Her mother died when Anna was around 8 years old and Anna virtually raised her brothers from that time, cooking & cleaning for the family and making sure that her brothers and herself got to school and home each day while her father worked long hours supporting his family. Owen Galligan, Anna’s father never remarried and by all accounts his marriage was a deep love match. Anna reported that he never recovered from the death of his young and beautiful wife. Anna’s eyes always filled with tears when she recalled her father, tears of deep love and respect. She described that in her time and under their circumstances other fathers would have placed their children up for adoption, but Owen did everything he could to keep his family together. As a young woman, Anna was very beautiful, like her mother, pencil thin with raven black hair. She worked for Alexanders, a large department store in New York City and often traveled with her close friends. In her early thirties on a visit to the Catskill Mountains for a vacation with her father, she met Kermit Edgar Jackson. He was immediately smitten by the beautiful and strong-willed Anna. She often told the story of going on a spur of the moment date with him. He asked her to take a walk with him and she, not knowing this handsome country boy, secretly picked up a large rock and placed it in her purse, not knowing if she might need it later for self-defence. However, she did not and after that walk they were inseparable and Kermit often visited her at her apartment where she lived with her father in New York City. They were married in Nov. of 1953. The marriage was a strong one both hard working and kind and honest and devoted to their family, Anna always looked like a school girl in love whenever Kermit walked into a room. She loved him profoundly. They had three children; Gail Anne born in 1955, Patricia Ann born in 1959 and Kermit Eugene born in 1963. Anna adapted quickly to life in the country and she loved her husband’s home. Known from that time as Anne or occasionally as Annie, she three children kindly and lovingly. Anne opened an antique shop in the porch of the home the family moved into in 1963 in Cooksburg and worked daily aiding her husband’s thriving real estate business (Kermit Jackson Reality) She did all of the banking for the business and expanded her antique business greatly. The family traveled widely to Florida and Maine each year and once to Jamaica. Anne was a high school graduate, but self-educated in many ways. She was an avid reader and very interested in local politics; especially when Kermit Edgar ran for and was elected to Justice of the Peace and then Town Supervisor for the Town of Rensselaerville. She believed strongly in education and offered all three of her children full college education and support during those years. Gail & Patricia took advantage of that opportunity. Anne was a Roman Catholic and had a deep reverence for the saints. She would often pray to them for aid with lost objects and she was deeply spiritual in a non-dogmatic. When Patricia moved to Colorado, in 1977. Anne immediately arranged for Gail and her to visit her there. Patricia returned to New York in 1978 to attend the State University of New York. When Patricia and Anne continued their antique business together and shared their deep love of antiques and collecting. After Patricia moved to moved to Colorado again in 1984, Anne visited her several more times, but altitude sickness began to make visits prohibitive. Anne developed Alzheimer’s Disease during the stressful time leading up to her husband’s death in 1987. By the early 1990’s, her dementia was very advanced. Anne died on Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, which is most fitting as it is the Feast of St. Michael, the warrior angel of truth & power. Anne is survived by her eldest daughter, Gail Anne Jackson and her daughter, Vanessa Nodine. Gail is a special education teacher in  Denver, CO. She is survived by her middle daughter, Patricia Anne and her two children, Aryana & Raphael. Patricia is a psychotherapist, Mediator and published writer living between Centennial, CO and upstate New York. She is also survived by her youngest son, Kermit Eugene Jackson and his daughters, Michelle & Amanda. Anne lifted herself out of poverty and through a loving marriage to a good man. She was a good and loving mother. She was a brilliant woman with a great sense of humor. The last twenty years of her life were marked by terrible tragedy and we are most grateful that she now rests peacefully at last in the arms of her Creator. Mom, we love you and thank-you for everything; especially your role-modeling of a loving of a loving marriage, your deep love of God, your intuitive abilities we and our children inherited, your love of the natural world and your strong and non-conforming Irish spirit. Funeral service will be Fri. 10:30am from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81, Greenville, NY with a Mass of Christian Burial 11am at St. John the Baptist Church. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thurs. 4 to 8pm. Interment will be in the Potter Hollow Cemetery.

Catskill – Elizabeth G. McNulty, 83, died Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at Eden Park Health Care Center in Catskill.

She was born March 5, 1923 in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Barry) Enigan.

McNulty was communicant at St. Anthony’s Friary in Catskill, member of the Catskill Lady Elks, Rip Van Winkle Seniors, Catskill Senior Fellowship and was a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer. Betty was employed as a bookkeeper for the Bank of Greene County prior to her retirement in 1984.

McNulty was predeceased by her husband David J. McNulty; a son, Michael R. McNulty; and a granddaughter, Vicki Ann White.

McNulty is survived by a daughter, Betty (Bill) White of Freehold; a son, Dave McNulty of Florida; a sister, Ethel Butterfield of Catskill; nine grandchildren, Mary Beth, Jeff, Cheryl, Bill, Karen, Sean, Scott, Debbie and Dawn; 17 great-grandchildren; and a dear friend, Rosemary Graham.

Cecil A. Shippee

East Durham – Cecil A. Shippee, 90, of County Route 20, East Durham, died suddenly October 3, 2006 at his residence, one day before he was leaving for his Florida home.

He was born in Patterson, NJ, Sept. 24, 1916, and was the son of the late Cecil J. and Laantya (Webster) Shippee.

During World War II, Cecil served with the US Army Air Force. He was a well-known general contractor in the Greene County area. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1416 of East Durham and was a WWII veteran. He served as tax review board on assessments in the town of Durham planning board and chairman of the Republican board committee for the town of Durham. He was also an active baseball player until 1988.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary F. (Fabrizio) Shippee of East Durham, whom Cecil married on Dec. 18, 1944 in Washington, D.C.; two sons, Richard and Robert Shippee, both of East Durham; a granddaughter, Lisa Fitzmaurice; and great-grandchildren Billy, Devin and Ian.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at the Richards Funeral Home, 29 Bross St., Cairo on Friday evening from 7-9pm.

Funeral services will take place Friday evening, Oct. 6, 2006, at 8:30pm at Richards Funeral Home, 29 Bross St. Cairo, with the Rev. Retta Lykens, pastor of the Cairo United Methodist Church officiating. The same evening the military forces honor guard will conduct services in his memory at the funeral home.

Austin Dana Sokoll
Lived life with zest

Windham – Austin Dana Sokoll, 14, of Prattsville, died peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Austin was born on Aug. 7, 1992 in Hudson, He was afflicted with Muscular Dystrophy, but he loved life and he lived it zestfully and enjoyed each and every day to its fullest. He fought a long and courageous battle against M.D. and he certainly made the most of the time he was given here with us. His inspiration, courage and smile for all who knew him will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his mother, Melinda M. Sokoll, sister Macee Lynn Sokoll, step-brother Dana Soule, his maternal grandparents Lyle and Peg Sokoll and his parental grandparents Tom and Marilyn Soule. He is the godson of Richard Rappleyea and the nephew of Lynn Sokoll and Deb Maynard.

Calling hours will be held at the Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main St., Windham, on Thursday, Oct. 5 from 2 to 4pm and again at 7 to 9pm. Services will he held on Friday, Oct. 6 at 10am at the Windham United Methodist Church, Main Street, Windham. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Ashland.

Lounsbury, Peter – The family of Peter Lounsbury announces with heartfelt sadness his passing on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at his home following a gallant and determined fight against heart disease and cancer. Peter was born in Oak Hill, NY on April 8, 1929, son of the late Willett E. and Florence (Baitsholts) Lounsbury. He was a graduate of Greenville Central School. For over 45 years, Peter owned and operated Lounsbury Appliance with dedication, pride and loyalty. This business was started by his father, Willett, in 1931. Upon his retirement in January 1991, his son, Bruce and daughter-in-law, Susan carried (t)he family business into the 21st century. Peter served his country well during the Korean Conflict, 1951-1953. The American Legion became an important part of his life as he held multiple offices at Post, County, District, State and National levels for well over 40 years. As the NYS Department Vice Commander in 1986, Peter represented the 26 counties of northeastern New York State. Peter was a regular “bluecap” Legionnaire from start to finish. The strength and grace with which Peter went about his life was an inspiration to his wife, his beloved children, and grandchildren. Friends’ and colleagues’ lives are better for having known him. The family of Peter Lounsbury announces with heartfelt sadness his passing on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at his home following a gallant and determined fight against heart disease and cancer.

Peter was born in Oak Hill, NY on April 8, 1929, son of the late Willett E. and Florence (Baitsholts) Lounsbury. He was a graduate of Greenville Central School. Catskill – Elizabeth Soncini, 88, longtime Catskill resident, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

She was born April 23, 1918 in Brooklyn.

Mrs. Soncini was an employee of St. Patrick’s Rectory in Catskill. She was a communicant at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Catskill. Liz was an avid bingo player.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Soncini in 1975, a daughter, Barbara Wynne un 1987; a brother, William Brown; and a granddaughter, Lee Ann Norris.

Mrs. Soncini is survived by five children, Elizabeth Soncini of Leeds, Mary (Edward) Colvin of Victory Mills, Patricia Soncini of Albany; Robert Soncini of Glens Falls, Francis (Linda) Soncini of Waco, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a close and dear friend, Joan Greene of Leeds.

Relatives and friends may call at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, on Saturday from 10 to 11am.

Catskill – Ellen M. Berry, 83m died on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006 at Albany Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 26, 1923, in Hunter, the daughter of Dayton L. Benjamin, a Greene County deputy sheriff, and Ellen M. Lyons, who immigrated from Ireland. While in grammar school, Ellen Berry placed second in the New York State spelling bee. Later she modeled for the New York apple industry as the Hudson Valley Apple Queen. She graduated from Hunter-Tannersville Central School, and went on to attend Spencer’s Business School and the New Paltz State Teachers College.

During World War II, she served as a Technical Corporal in the Medical Corps, aiding soldiers in a psychiatric unit on Long Island. She married Franklin Berry in 1946, and they moved from Poughkeepsie to Catskill in 1955.

Mrs. Berry became deeply involved in the community, serving as a Vice President and Secretary of the Fortnightly Club, and a Director of the Mid-Hudson Heart Association. She and her husband were long-standing active members of the Catskill Country Club, and they skied as a family at Hunter Mountain every weekend for many winters. There, Mrs. Berry became involved in the learn-to-ski program.

She worked for several years as a reporter-photographer fort he Catskill Daily Mail, writing a column called “Bits of Business”. She went on to become the first employee of Columbia-Greene Community College, where she acted as Secretary to the Board of Trustees, was later appointed Clerk, and eventually assisted the President and the Dean of Administration. She also served on the Citizen’s Advisory Committee for centralizing the Catskill school system.

Mrs. Berry was devoted to her family and loved her home. Her granddaughter Caitlin wrote of her, “She is strong, brave, brilliant and honest. She preserves the beautiful traditions. She grows with the times.” Among the traditions she preserved were the holiday dinners that gathered the family around her table.

She lived at the center of a busy and loving circle, and as times changed she maintained a quiet dignity and an ever ready wit. She knew the answers to all the crossword puzzles in the New York Times, and the names of all the birds at her window.

Mrs. Berry was predeceased by her husband Franklin Berry; two brothers, John Benjamin and Dr. Dayton Benjamin; and a beloved grandson, Kyle Berry.

Mrs. Berry is survived by two sons, Michael (Jennifer) Berry of Evergreen, Colo., and Kevin (Debbie) Berry of Catskill; a daughter, Maureen (Michael) Berry Bliss of Catskill; a sister, Katherine Elliott Wilson of West Chester, Pa.; a brother, Edwin Benjamin of Winter Haven, Fla.; six grandchildren, Jedediah, Sean, Caitlin, Annika, Kellin and Tate; many nieces and nephews; and cousins in the United States and Ireland.

Private services for the family will be held on Monday at the Town of Catskill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ellen’s name may be made to the National Audubon Society, Sept. W, 700 Broadway, New York, NY 10003.

She was born May 7, 1916 to the late Elmer F. and Alice (O’Connor) Byrne in Platte Clove, NY.

Survivors include a granddaughter, Helen Louise Brower of Hartford, Conn.; a grandson, Joseph Brower of Tannersville; and one niece.

She was predeceased by her son, Thomas C. Brower.

Cremation was held at the Farmington Valley Crematory in Canton, Conn.

A Mass of Christian Burial is to be held Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006 at 11am at the St. Francis deSales Roman Catholic Church, Elka Park. The Rev. Anthony Motta will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Coxsackie – Lorraine E. Knott, 74, of 228 Mansion St., Coxsackie, died Oct. 5, 2006, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany after a long illness.

She was born in Catskill on April 10, 1932 and was the daughter of the late Raymond and Elizabeth (Cronk) Seaburgh.

Funeral services will take place Tuesday at 8:30pm at the W.C. Brady’s Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie, with the Rev. Paul Peters, pastor of the First Reformed Church of West Coxsackie, officiating.

Private cremation will follow at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.

Lorraine was employed at the American Tree and Wreath Company for many years. She was a lifelong area resident, was devoted to her family, and was an avid collector of Indian dolls.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, James W. Knott of Coxsackie; six sons, John of Coxsackie, Timothy of Coxsackie, James of Florida, Joseph of Coxsackie and Clifford of Coxsackie; five daughters, Linda Von Rone of Arizona, Joan Rollins of Coxsackie, Cynthia Wright of Mineville, Kathleen Knott of Catskill, Irene Knott of Arizona; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Robert.

Saugerties – Matthew C. “Matt” Marchuck, 23, of Cherry Lane died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006 at the Benedictine Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born Sept. 22, 1983 in Kingston he was the son of Ronald T. and Dawn M. Burch Marchuck.

A graduate of Saugerties High School, Class of 2001, he was former employee of Sun Flower Market in Woodstock, the Target Store and Eckerd’s Drug Store.

Besides his parents of Saugerties, survivors include a brother, Michael E. Marchuck of Saugerties, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

His funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Hone, Inc., Corner of John and Lafayette Streets, Saugerties.

Interment will follow in the Mount Marion Cemetery, Saugerties.

Saugerties – John L. Martine, 77, of Highland Court died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006 in St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany.

Born Sept. 2, 1929 in Maizeville, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Mary Lupcha Martine.

A veteran of the US Navy and the US Air Force he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the good Conduct Medal. He was employed at IBM Kingston for over 27 years as a test engineer.

He was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, the Saugerties American Legion Post 72 and the St. Catherine Labouree RC Church in Lake Katrine.

Survivors include his wife, the former Marie Jordan with whom he recently celebrated their 54^th wedding anniversary; one son, John M. Martine of Saugerties; three daughters, Mary E. Randazzo of Cornwall, Roseanne Braslow of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; and Susan < Sellers of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Genevieve Roder of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral procession will form at 9:15am Tuesday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., corner of John and Lafayette Streets, Saugerties, thence to St. Catherine Labouree RC Church where at 10am a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered.

Interment will military honors will be held on Wednesday in the Saratoga National Cemetery.

Clermont – Iris B. Henderson, 71, of Woods Road, Clermont, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at St. Peter’s Hospital after a brief illness.

Born Jan. 29, 1935 in Aberdeen-Shire, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late John and Annie Bain Clark.

For the last 15 years, Mrs. Henderson and her husband, Archie, who survives, have been the caretakers of the Midwood Estate on Woods Road in Clermont.

She was a member of the Mount Merino Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Elaine Henderson of Hudson and Steven and Donna Henderson of Catskill; two daughters-in-law, Craig and Elaine Henderson of Hudson and Steven and Donna Henderson of Catskill; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn and Jeffrey Shufelt of Hudson and Susan and John Van Vliet of Ghent; three brothers Ronald Clark, Ian Clark and Kenneth Clark; one sister Jean Thompson, all of Scotland; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, William Bain; and one grandson, Bradley Henderson.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 5 to 8pm Tuesday at the Trinity Methodist Church, 555 Joslen Blvd., Hudson.

Funeral services will be held 1pm Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Robert Johnson officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery of Greenport.

She was born on July 4, 1923, in West Athens, to the late Andrew and Blanch (Zink) Quick.

Private graveside services will take place on Thursday, in the family plot of the old Athens Rural Cemetery, next to her late husband Joseph H. Melia, who predeceased her on July 28, 1982, with the Rev. John Moyna, pastor of the St. Mary’s Church of Coxsackie, officiating.

During her years of employment, she was employed as a cook for St. Patrick’s High School and also several other positions.

She is survived by three children, Rita M. Melia of Worcester, Mass., Michael (JoAnn) Scott of Athens, her son Martin and wife Ewa Melia of Cairo; also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and a dear family friend Joyce Tressler of Catskill.

There will be no calling hours.

Born Feb. 27, 1934, in Saugerties, he was the son of the late John J. and Beatrice Houck Pavlak.

He was a retired employee of the Saugerties Post Office where he was a rural carrier for over 28 years. He was a member of the Saugerties Village Police for 49 years, a former sergeant on the Town of Saugerties Police Department, an officer for the Town of Saugerties Court for over 20 years and a former Ulster County Deputy Sheriff.

He was a founding member and an Emergency Medical Technician for Diaz Ambulance in Saugerties and a past president and former member of the Saugerties Kiwanis Club. He also held former memberships in the Blue Kats Men’s Club, the Centerville Fire Department and the Saugerties Exempts Firemen’s Association.

He was the past treasurer of the Greene County Police Officers Association, a past member of the Ulster Shields and the North-South Civil War Skirmish Association.

Survivors include his wife, the former Maria Maccarrone; two daughters, Nancy L. Pavlak of Woodstock and Rosa Lattanzion of Saugerties; three sons, John Books of North Palm Beach, Fla., Stephen O. Pavlak of Saugerties and William J. Meyers of Saugerties; one stepson, Robert R. Auguanno of New Hyde Park; two stepdaughters, Diane M. Knox of LaFargeville and Suzanne M. Dr. James Rowan
Restorer of Hush Hush

Greenville – Dr. James Rowan died of Cancer on Aug. 27, 2006 at Mr. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. He was 71. Dr. Rowan was an internationally acclaimed academician researcher and specialist in the treatment of epilepsy. He held distinguished professorships in Neurology and Neurophysiology at NYU-Mt. Sinai where he was co-director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center and at the Bronx Veteran’s Hospital where he was Chief of Neurology and Director of the Neurology Research Center. He also held appointments at Columbia University College of Medicine and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

The author of 12 books on the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy, he was chief investigator with Dr. Eugene Ramsey of the Veterans Hospital in Miami of a 10 year study of epilepsy in the elderly. Their study, conducted at ten sites around the country, revolutionized this treatment in the elderly. His book, “The Brainstorm Healers,” was written for patients and their families. Dr. Rowan was also author of many articles, chapters, and peer review studies on the subject of epilepsy.

James Rowan was born in Los Angeles and raised in Ohio. He attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stamford University School of Medicine. About 1980, Dr. and Mrs. Rowan purchased the Augustine Prevost house in Greenville from George Vanderbilt and began a restoration project that spanned several years. The house is now on the National Register of Historic Houses and is the yearly site of a fundraiser for the Greenville Library. In 1993, Hush Hush as the house is called, celebrated its 200 birthday.

Dr. Rowan will be interred in Locust Cemetery on Maple Avenue in Greenville. Land for the cemetery was donated by Major Prevost and members of the Prevost family are buried there. His wife, a stepson David Korn of Manhattan, a sister-in-law Joan Garofalo of Freehold and several cousins in Ohio survive him.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 2pm at Locust Cemetery, Maple Avenue, Greenville. All friends are welcome to attend.

Carol Savage
Chaired Thomas Cole Board of Governors

Sarasota, Fla. – Carol Theodos Savage died Oct. 11, 2006 in Florida after a fierce fight with lung cancer.

She knew how to luxuriate in the richness of life. Her family and friends were ever the beneficiaries and will miss the sparkling example she gave us.

A person of wide and varied interests, Carol was a tireless supporter of the arts and a boating, tennis, golf and skiing enthusiast. She chaired the Board of Governors of eh Thomas Cole National Historic Site in Catskill. She served on the advisory Council of Hudson River Classics Showcase Theater, the Manhattan School of Music, multiple committees for the Olana Partnership and even made a run for a seat on the Cairo town council.

Before retiring in 2001, Carol was a global marketing and communications executive and held senior positions with American Express and Citigroup. She was a consummate professional who maintained her spirit and her humor as well as her budget.

Carol attended Skidmore College, held a BA in Education from the University of South Florida and an MA in Marketing Communications from Hunter College.

Carol is survived by her husband, Michel Goldberg; a son, John Tsavaris; a daughter, Tia Davidovici; her mother, Frances Theodos; a brother, Harry Theodos; her granddaughter, Brigette Davidovici; and her step-children, Claude-Danielle Goldberg Badger and Yves-Gerard Goldberg.

William E. Sherman
Employed by Albany County Highway Dept.

Greenville – William E. Sherman, 47, of Westerlo died at his home on Oct. 11, 2006 after having suffered a CVA several years ago. He was born in Albany on Sept. 28, 1959 son of the late Robert and Joan (Grippen) Sherman Sr. He was employed by the Albany County Highway Department. A lover of the outdoors, he also enjoyed fishing and was an avid Jets fan.

Surviving are his wife Pennie (Leggio) Sherman; a son, Anthony Sherman; a son, Anthony Sherman; a daughter, Jennifer Sherman; a grandson, Cody Miller; a brother Robert Sherman Jr.; two sisters, Deborah Larsen, Sandra Bishop; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 4pm Sunday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4pm prior to the service. Cremation will be at the Albany Rural Cemetery with interment of his cremains in the Westerlo Rural Cemetery.

Newburgh – Arleen Joyce (Eileen-Sis) Barker, of Newburgh, died on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. She was 55.

Daughter of Kathleen Butler Williams and the late David Williams and the late David Williams, she was born on May 20, 1951 in Catskill.

A family statement reads, “You are always walking through our hearts and minds. You were the best mom, daughter, sister and friend anyone could ask for.”

Arleen was a 1970 graduate of Greenville Central High School.

She is survived by her daughters, Brandi Barker of Roscoe and Katherine Barker of Newburgh; her brother Terry Williams and his wife Dawn of Greenville her sisters, Nancy Palmer and her husband Ronald of Hannacroix and Janice O’Leary and Raymond Martin of Athens; her granddaughter; Eryn Dutcher; her niece, Becky Palmer and nephews, Kyle O’Leary and Zeb Barker. She was married to James Barker who survives in Peekskill.

She was predeceased by her brother, David C. Williams and her sister, Sandra Williams.

Calling hours will be held from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Monday, Oct. 16 at the Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Graveside Service will take place at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the Greenville Cemetery, Greenville.

Catskill – Walter Karl Hafner, 65, of 165 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, died suddenly Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, at Albany Medical Center Hospital in Albany.

He was born March 10, 1941 in Astoria, the son of the late Karl and Ida (Bader) Hafner.

Walter was an employee of the Greene County Highway Department for many years prior to his retirement in 2004. He was a member of the Catskill Elks Lodge and a longtime supporter of the Sullivan-Teator VFW Post 770 in Catskill.

Mr. Hafner is survived by a brother, Gunther Hafner and wife Lucille of Queensbury; a sister, Rita Pilatich and husband Joseph of Catskill; nieces and nephews, Dr. Joesph Pilatich, Jeffrey Pilatich, Stacey Hafner, Mark Hafner and Kim Bongiorno; an aunt, Pia Borberg; and several grand-nieces and great-nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, on Monday from 4 to 8pm.

Funeral services will be held 11am Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. John J. Murphy, pastor of the Sacred Heart Church, will be officiating.

John J. Hines
Loved to restore cars

Athens – John J. Hines, 64, of 44 Leeds Road, Athens, died suddenly Oct. 13, 2006.

He was born in Catskill, Feb. 13, 1942 and was the son of the late Frank and Bernice (Lane) Hines.

Funeral services will take place Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006 at 10amat the Richards Funeral Home, 26 N. Vernon St., Athens with the Rev. Retta Lykens, pastor of the Cairo United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will follow in the family plot of the New Athens Rural Cemetery.

John is a lifetime resident of Greene County and attended the Coxsackie-Athens school system. He survived in the US Army from 1958 to 1964 was also a member of union Local 190 of Albany. John’s love was restoring cars and collecting antique cars.

His wife and family were his entire life and he devoted a special loving affection to his wife for many years.

Surviving are his wife Georgiann (Gabrielle) J. Hines of Athens, four daughters, Denise H. Carney, Donna M. Schloss, Melissa A. Hines all of Athens, Diana L. Van Kuren of New Jersey; a sister Barbara O’Brien of Catskill; and five grandchildren, Angelique, Chelsi, Steven, Thomas and John.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and James Hines and two sisters, Catherine Machesani and Molly Rogers.

Saugerties – Linda G. Podmayersky, 58, of Prospect Street died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006 at Ten Broeck Commons Nursing Home, Lake Katrine.

Born March 23, 1948 in Catskill, she was the daughter of the late Julian and Alice Goodrich Yankowski.

Survivors include two sons, John P. Podmayersky III and Jason T. Podmayersky both of Saugerties; two sisters, Laura Conklin of Millerton and Lois Yankowski of Tucson; one brother, Thomas Yankowski of Manhattan; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Selkirk – Nettie Arline Ford, 65, of Selkirk, Albany County, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Born Feb. 9. 1941 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late William B. and Edith Jane Purdy Ford.

Mrs. Ford was employed as a home health aid working for Norell Health Care.

She attended Christ Episcopal Church in Greenville and was an avid NASCAR fan.

Survivors include two sisters, Cora Deyo and Edith Rice, both of Earlton; two brothers, Frank Ford of Catskill and James Ford of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Josephine Desco; and a brother, William Ford.

As to her wishes she was cremated at the Albany Rural Cemetery.

Services and interment will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with the Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville.

Greenville – Robert M. Geraci, Sr., 60, of Conesville, Schoharie County, died suddenly Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006.

Born June 14, 1946 in the Bronx, he was the son of Kathleen Sicca Geraci and the late Eugene Geraci.

He served in the US Marine Corps. from 1963 to 1967.

Mr. Geraci was a retired transmission operator having worked for Con Edison in Manhattan.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Catherine Rinaldi Geraci; a daughter, Victoria Geraci; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Jr. and Helena Geraci and Dominic and Erica Geraci; two brothers, Michael and Eugene; a sister, Marcello; and two grandchildren, Samantha and Helena.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated noon Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Church, Greenville.

Livingston – Juliette M. Rossi Meano, 55, of Route 9H and 23 in Livingston, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn, Albany, after a ling fight with cancer.

She graduated from Hudson High School in 1969 and from Westchester School of Albany as a medical assistant in 1980.

Mrs. Meano worked in the medical field before retiring.

Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Alfred Meano of Livingston, a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Edward Waldron; a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Gennifer Meano; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter and Kelley Rossi of Stuyvesant and John and Gretchen Rossi of Flinstone, Ga; four granddaughters, Olivia, Isabelle and Kathryn Waldron of Elizaville and Tiffany Meano of Greenport; a grandson, Christopher Meano Jr. of Greenport; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Hudson – Mary T. Rossi, 89, of Firehouse Road, in Hudson, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at Columbia Memorial Hospital, four hours after the death of her daughter, Juliette Meano.

Born Sept. 23, 1917 in Buffalo, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mabel Scott Wolfe.

Mrs. Rossi spent most of her life in Columbia County.

She owned and operated Rossi’s Glendale Bar and Grill for more than 25 years.

She was a communicant of the Holy Family Church of Stottville and a member of the Stottville Ladies Fire Auxiliary.

She enjoyed Bingo, baking, cooking, sewing and reading.

Survivors include two sons, John Rossi of Georgia and Walter Rossi of Stuyvesant; Eight grandchildren, Michelle Waldron, Christopher Meano, Walter Rossi Jr., Janelle Rossi, Anthony Rossi, Danielle Rossi, Tyler Rossi and Timothy Rossi; and many great-grandchildren.

In addition to her daughter, she was predeceased by her husband, Michael Rossi.

She was formerly a Saugerties resident.

She had been disabled and therefore has not worked in many years.

She enjoyed traveling, classic rock music and bingo.

Survivors include her daughter, Michele Legge of Wappinger Falls; a son, Christopher Petty of Florida; a companion, Gary Stock of Greenport; four sisters, Cynthia Grill of Kingston, Lecia Lynch of Catskill, Kelly Todd of Mt. Marion and Colleen Lynch of Kingston; four granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Larry Lynch, in 1989.

South Cairo – Margaret M. Bonavida, 79, of Ross Ruland Road, South Cairo, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at St. Peter’s Hospice in Albany.

Born March 12, 1927 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine McShane.

She had been an area resident since 1979 and was a communicant and a Eucharistic minister for St. Bridget’s and Sacred Heart Church.

Mrs. Bonavida was a member of the Friends of the Cairo Library and a member of the Cairo and Greenville Senior Citizens Club.

She enjoyed doing crafts, shopping and playing bingo and cards. She was also an avid reader.

Survivors include three daughters, Maureen Bowers of Florida, Cathleen Doscher of South Carolina and Barbara Hensler of Grafton, Rensselaer County; five grandchildren, Kellyann, J.J., Becky, Katlyn and Nicole; and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene, March 5, 1975.

Anne B. Larys

Prattsville – Anne B. Larys, 96, of Prattsville, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at the Eden Park Health Center in Catskill.

Born in 1910 in Duquesne, Pa, she was the daughter of Zuzannah and Jan Bibza, Slovak immigrants.

She received a degree in music education at Carnegie Institute of Technology.

During the Depression, Mrs. Larys lived in Prague, Czechoslovakia, where she taught English and attended the Charles University studying Czech folk music and literature.

While in Prague, she met her husband, the late Bohumir A. Larys.

Upon returning to the United States, she earned a master’s degree in Socvial Work from the University of Pittsburg and later received her master’s degree in Library Science from the State University of New York at Albany.

Mrs. Larys served as a reference librarian at Bard College, Annandale-in; Hudson.

She was an active volunteer with the PTA, holding local, regional and statewide positions. She also served on the Onteora Central School (Boiceville) Board of Education. She was a civil rights activist, participating in many civil rights marches and actions in the 1960s.

Prior to moving to Prattsville in 1968, she resided in Woodstock.

Survivors include her two children, Theodore John and Adrienne; and two sisters, Irene Bibza and Margaret Thouvenelle.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Olga Adkins and Millicent Skarzumski.

Arrangements are by the Decker Funeral Home, Windham.

A memorial service will be held 1pm Oct. 29 at the Reformed Dutch Church, Main Street, Prattsville.

Jewett – Laura E. Maben, 88, of Jewett died at her family residence on Oct. 18, 2006.

Born in Lexington on March 31, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Elijah and Hazel Van Etten.

She was a retired postmaster of the Jewett Post Office, a member of the Jewett Presbyterian Church and Ladies Aid Society.

She was also a member of the Jewett Fire Co. Ladies Auxilliary.

She was predeceased by her husband, William G. Maben on Jan. 4, 2002; and two brothers, Edward and Merlin Van Etten.

She is survived by her son, Bruce A. Maben and wife Janice; three grandchildren, Diane Osborn (John), William K. Maben (Cathy) and Vickie Truesdell (Steve); five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rita Hapeman, Flora Dart and Beulah Hayden; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Jewett Presbyterian Church on Monday, Oct. 23, 2006 at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jewett Presbyterian Church or the Community Hospice of Columbia-Greene.

Jewett – Mikael Rynasewycz, 81, of Jewett, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.

Born Sept. 30, 1925, in Dubno, Ukraine, he was the son of the late Franko and Eva Wanat Rynasewycz.

Mr. Rynasewycz was a chemist for the US government in New York City before his retirement.

He was a trustee and served on the parish committee for St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in So. Jewett since 1995.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Rynasewycz of Jewett, one son, Stephen Rynasewycz of Elmhurst; one daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Gary Sczesnik of Elmhurst; one sister, Olha Martyshko; two brothers, Andris Rynsewycz and family and Ivan Rynasewycz  and family; four grandchildren,   Gregory and Julie Sczesnik and Edward and Irene Rynasewycz.

He was predeceased by his grandson, Nicholas Sczesnik in 2001.

Hudson – Pearl M. Albrechtsen, 83, of Hudson, formerly of Athens and Catskill, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2006 at Columbia Memorial Hospital Community Hospice where she had been a patient since Oct. 16.

Born Jan. 28, 1923 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Salma Matson Gorts.

Mrs. Albrechtsen graduated from Athens High School in 1941 and Columbia Memorial School of Nursing in 1945. She worked as a registered nurse at Greene County Memorial Hospital in the maternity ward and retired in 1988.

She was an active member of the First Reformed Church in Catskill and a member of the Catskill Crafters specializing in baby sweater outfits.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane and Donna Albrechtsen of Hudson and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her son, Bruce of Albany, in 1998; three brothers, Rev. Edwin Gorts in 1997, John William Gorts in 1995, and Tolvo A. Gorts in 2004; and a sister, Evelyn Heath of Vero Beach, Fla.

Funeral services will be held 2pm Tuesday in the Remembrance Chapel of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights, with the Rev. Vicky Eastland, pastor of the First Reformed Church, Catskill, officiating.

A calling hour will begin 1pm Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Interment will follow in the new Athens Rural Cemetery.

Maria Peters, 71, of Fiero Road, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006 at Kingston Hospital.

Born Jan. 26, 1935 in Russia, she was the daughter of the late Wilhelm and Leokadti Kirchner Zahn. She immigrated to the United States fifty years ago, and settled in Malden-on-Hudson.

Mrs. Peters was a gifted baker, who decorated beautiful wedding cakes. She was a skilled seamstress who had worked in Saugerties for many years and crocheted many afghans.

Survivors include sons, Hans of Palenville, Frank of Saugerties and Ernest of Malden; two daughters, Mary-Ann Bashwinger of Medusa and Peggy Sweeney of Saugerties; four brothers, Arthur and Erich of Germany, Herbert of Greenport and Alfred of Hudson; four sisters, Ursula Marzahl of Hudson, Alfrieda Anuska of Hudson, Ella Bernart of Barclay Heights and Hilda Beacvar of Queens; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A service to Celebrate the Life of Mrs. Peters will be held on Monday evening at 8pm at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, 45 John St., Saugerties with Deacon Hank Smith as celebrant.

Catskill – James Dallas, 67, of Route 9W, West Athens, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006 at home after a brief illness. He was born April 12, 1939 in Catskill, the son of the late George and Margaret (Wynne) Dallas.

Jim was a past member of Boy Scout Troop 44 in Catskill. He served as a camp counselor at Camp Tri-Mount in Haines Falls. Jim earned Ordeal, Brotherhood and Vigil honors of the National Camping Society of Boy Scouts. He was a former chief of Area 2D Order of Arrow, past Patrol Leader, senior Patrol Leader and assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 44 under the very outstanding leadership of Scoutmaster Anthony Zinnanti.

Jim served in the US Air Force from 1958 to 1960 in the European Theater of Operations and was active in scouting programs overseas for children of active duty personnel. Jim worked as Scouting Director for three years at Dauphie, Germany and was elected chief of the Blackeagle Lodge of the Transatlantic Council, which covered 13 nations that had military personnel assigned as an advisor and Post-Advisor for the Western Europe Section of the BSA.

Mr. Dallas was an employee of Alpha Cement Company for 13 years, and GE Plastics in Selkirk for over 24 years prior to his retirement in 2005.

Jim later worked for St. Anthony’s Friary in Catskill until ill health forced his disability.

Jim was a life member of the West Athens-Limestreet Fire Company, fire commissioner and chairman of the board of the West Athens-Limestreet Fire District, member of the Sunday Nite Hobos and Belles and Athens Mixed Bowling League, member of the Cairo Elks Lodge and member of Athens American Legion TGM Post 187.

Mr. Dallas was predeceased by his first wife Bertha Dallas on May 12, 1998, and a son, Thomas R. Dallas on April 19, 2000.

Mr. Dallas is survived by his wife, Pamela Dallas of West Athens; a daughter, Corrina L. Stegner and husband Ray of Kingston; a stepdaughter, Kim Darling and husband Stephen of Catskill; grandchildren, Ashley L. Stegner and Raymond J. Stegner Jr. of Kingston, and Delia G. Darling and Meghan R. Darling of Catskill; two sisters, Juanita Greiner of Athens and Letitia Lane of Catskill; two brothers, Alvin Dallas and wife Dorothy of Athens and Floyd Dallas and wife Iris of Ragland, Ala.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, on Tuesday from 3 to 8pm.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Wednesday at the funeral home. Clergy from St. Anthony’s Friary will be officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Town of Catskill Cemetery. Forest Hills – Adele Federman, 81, of Forest Hills, died peacefully at home with her family at her side, Friday, Oct. 20, 2006 after a courageous 12 year battle with cancer.

Adele was the beloved wife of Dr. Bernard Federman and living mother of Larry Federman and Debra Federman Murphy. Adele was predeceased by her son Ronnie Federman.

Devoted mother-in-law of Diane Parette, Michael Murphy and Joyce Aclin, Adele will be missed by her adoring grandchildren, Teal Annadele Federman, Emma Murphy, Emma Murphy and Aaron Murphy.

A woman ahead of her time, Adele led her life in a non-traditional style that contributed to her many unique qualities. Adele’s passions included tennis, knitting, bridge, opera, piano and her grandchildren.

A celebration of Adele’s life will be held at the Federman residence in Forrest Hills today. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the breast cancer organization of your choice.

Cornwallville – Dianne M. Frasco, 64, of Cornwallville, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, at the Eden Park Health Care in Catskill.

Born Feb. 18, 1942 in Flushing, Queens County, she was the daughter of the late Pascal and Anne Tierney Frasco.

She was a member of the Durham-Oak Hill U.M. Church and enjoyed helping out at the Good Tidings Bible Camp. She also enjoyed taking care of children.

Survivors include three sisters, Naida Frasco of Cornwallville, Linda Campbell and her husband Thomas of Jefferson Valley, Westchester County, and Gail Frasco and her significant other Gary Reilling of Melville Long Island; and a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Sandra Frasco of Cornwallville.

Athens – Paraskivie “Parie” Appa, 76, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at Albany Medical Center.

Born Jan. 13, 1930 in Catskill, she was the eldest daughter of the late James P. and Ida Amanda Kepp Cotullas, having been named by her native Greek father.

She was married for 50 years to Anthony Appa Sr., who predeceased her in 1999.

Mrs. Appa was proud of her long German ancestry, dating back to the 16^th century.

Besides being a busy homemaker, she had been employed occasionally at the Athens Knitting Mill and the American Tree & Wreath of Coxsackie.

A talented artist and creative crafter, she took great interest to learn new skills, making contributions to many shows for the Ten O’Clock Crafters. She also painted several Athens town scenes. A special joy was having “the girls” to her house for lunch or going out together.

Mrs. Appa attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Athens and sang in the ecumenical church choirs.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Anna Appa Jr.; a sister, Vasilia “Billie” Coons Williams; a brother, James N. Cotullas of Hudson; a nephew; a niece, a grandniece and grandnephew; and a cousin.

Preparations were arranged by Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home in Catskill for cremation at Albany Rural Crematorium.

Interment will be in Catskill Rural Cemetery beside her mother.

A family memorial service will be held at the gravesite.

Cairo – Patricia A. Barth, 66, of Frank Hitchcock Road, Cairo, formerly of Babylon, Long Island, died suddenly Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, at the Columbia Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in Hudson.

Born Feb. 22, 1940 in Bayshore, Long Island, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Lindquist Piehler.

Mrs. Barth had been an area resident for the last four years.

She was an avid doll collector, having collected more than 200 dolls. She also enjoyed cooking and playing bingo.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Lloyd C. Barth of Cairo; three sons and daughters-in-law, Lloyd Jr. and Kim of Cairo, David and Julie of Cairo and Scott and Susan of Acra; two daughters and a son-in-law; Dawn M. Ussachia of Long Island and Laura and Blake Gassoway of Greenville; a brother, Frank Piehler of Florida; a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Raymond Sperzel of South Cairo; and 16 grandchildren.

Hudson – Fred C. Heller, 78, formerly of East Durham, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, at the Fireman’s Home in Hudson.

Born Nov. 6, 1927 in New York City, he was the son of the late Frederick and Elizabeth Rupp Heller.

Mr. Heller was a self employed carpenter and handyman before retiring.

He raised and showed horses and enjoyed calf roping and cutting competition, boating and fishing. He was also a pilot and an avid motorcyclist and took several trips in the United States and Nova Scotia.

Mr. Heller was a life member of the Atlantic Coast Old Timer’s Association and built and raced his own midget car. He was also a 25 year member of the East Durham Volunteer Fire Company.

Survivors include his sister, Marie Heller of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, his best friend and companion, Lois Rockefeller of East Durham; two step daughters, Brenda Wagenbaugh and her fiancé Dan Ellot and Debra Berry and her husband Kevin, all of Catskill; a son-in-law, Billy Metzler of Cairo; and four grandchildren, Lacey and Jessica Wagenbaugh and Jennifer and Dawn Metzler.

He was predeceased by a step daughter, Donna Metzler; and a grandson, Kyle Berry.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family.

She enjoyed playing bingo and gardening.

Mrs. Wood was a communicant of the St. Mary’s Church, Coxsackie.

Survivors include a son, Roger R. Wood and his wife of West Coxsackie; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Eileen Kenick.

Malden-on-Hudson – Richard B. Wenger, MD, 83, of Fiero Road, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006 at the Kingston City Hospital.

Born Oct. 5, 1923 in Roanoke, Ill., he was the son of the late John and Mary Brownson Wenger.

He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Goshen College in Indiana and graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1947 with his Doctorate.

He worked in private practice in Elkhart, Ind., before relocating to Germantown where in 1950 he became associated by Dr. Hugh Henry. In 1951he opened his own practice in Saugerties where he practiced for 55 years until his retirement in 1996. During that period he served for 27 years as the Saugerties Central Schools Consolidated Physician. He was often seen on Saturday’s during the football season on the sidelines during the varsity games ready to provide medical care in the event of an emergency. He was a member of the New York State Medical Society and the Ulster County Medical Society. In 1980 he was named Grand Marshall of the Saugerties 4^th of July parade. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, and held patents on several items that he invented. He enjoyed classical music and playing the piano in later years, and enjoyed the views of the Hudson River.

Survivors include is wife, the former Doris Yager, with whom he celebrated his 55^th wedding anniversary; one daughter, Mary Beth Wenger of Melrose; and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held 11am Thursday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette Streets, with the Rev. Paul Mengle officiating.

Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery, Saugerties, at the convenience of the family.

Robert W. Duncan

Glendale, Calif. – Robert W. Duncan died on Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, in Irvine, Calif. At the age of 90, Robert was born on St. Patrick’s Day, March16, 1917 in Cairo. He and wife Doris were longtime Glendale residents for 60 years until recently when they moved to Irvine to be near family.

Robert was a civil engineer for the City of Los Angeles Streets and Freeways division for 32 years until retirement.

He is also a World War II veteran, having served in the 32^nd  Infantry of the US Army stationed in Leyte, in the Philippines during the war. He was a member of the North Glendale United Methodist Church since 1946 and when the church closed in June 2005, he became a member of the First Methodist Church of Glendale. Robert was very active in the Co-Weds, a social club at the church. He was president many times, program chairman, and his last position was party committee chairman. Robert loved the group and planned many exciting trips for them.

Robert leaves behind his wife Doris, of 60 years; his son Douglas and his wife Laura and granddaughter Sophia (11), of Colorado; daughter Wendy and her husband Michael and granddaughter Michelle (14) of Irvine; and daughter Roberta and grandsons Kevin (21) and Michael (18) of Cerritos; brother Colman Duncan of Catskill (86); and sister Daphne Burley (89) of Athens.

We will miss you – you were a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at 10:30am at the First United Methodist Church in Glendale, Calif.

Catskill – Christopher Joseph Gralton, 71, of Bethel Ridge Road, Catskill, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.

He was born Dec. 25, 1934 in Brooklyn, the son of the late Thomas and Mary (Gallagher) Gralton.

Christopher served in the US Army. Formerly of Queens Village and Brooklyn, he was a letter carrier for 30 years at the US Postal Service in Jamaica, NY, prior to his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. Christopher had been a Greene County resident since 1987.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mrs. Julia (Maye) Gralton on Nov. 4, 1995.

He is survived by a daughter, Christine A. Gralton of Catskill; a son, Robert Gralton and wife Karen of North Carolina; two brothers, Thomas Gralton of Greenville and Gerard Gralton of Cutchogue; three sisters, Elizabeth Markey of Greenville, Kathleen Thomas of Brooklyn and Teresa Lynch of Leeds; five grandchildren, Erick, Kevin, Megan, Jessica and Julia Gralton; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Ashland – Sara R. Acosta, 76, of Ashland, died peacefully on Oct. 25, 2006 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 3, 1930 in Columbia, the daughter of Angel and Agripina (Giraldo) Lopez.

She is survived by her grandmother of Sciera, Melissa, Matthew and Alex. She is also survived by many brothers and sisters.

Calling hours will be today at the Decker Funeral Home, Windham, from 7-9pm.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006 at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church, Windham.

Private cremation will follow at the Albany Rural Crematory.

Catskill – Charles “Ray” McNeany, 91, of 105 Wildwing Park, Catskill, died suddenly Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006 at Albany Medical Center.

He was born April 13, 1915, in Brooklyn, the son of the late Raymond C. and Lillian (Sears) McNeany.

Ray was an employee at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Executive Vice President of Etco Tool and Die of Brooklyn, and later IBM Kingston for 25 years prior to his 1984 retirement. He was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club.

Mr. McNeany was predeceased by his wife, Olga Marie McNeany on May 17, 2000; a sister, Marcella Kern; and a nephew, Richard Kern.

Mr. McNeany is survived by two sons, Raymond C. McNeany and wife Carol of McNeany and wife of Catskill and Steven R. McNeany and wife Jeri of Tennessee; five grandchildren, Tara Barberi and husband Michael of Germantown, Mary D’Antonio and husband Vincent of Florida, Christa Kennedy and husband Matthew of Manhattan, Michael McNeany and wife Teresa of Schenectady, and Karen McNeany of Tennessee; six great-grandchildren, Adam and Nicole Barberi of Germantown, Ryan and Kyle D’Antonio of Florida, and Moira and Michael Kennedy of Manhattan.

Relatives and friends may call at Traver & McCurry Funeral home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill on Sunday from 4-8pm.

Funeral services will be held 9 to 10am Monday at the funeral home, followed by an 11am Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, Cairo with the Rev. John J. Murphy, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the Town of Catskill Cemetery.

Acra – Ruth Claire (Chadderdon) Patrick, 82, of Acra died Oct. 26, 2006 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, after an illness.

She was born on Aug. 9, 1924, in Cairo, the daughter of the late John and Lavina (Zimmer) Chadderdon.

Ruth had been an area resident all of her life. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 380 Cairo Chapter. She loved fishing, playing Bingo, doing crossword puzzles and the craft of plastic canvas.

Ruth attended the school of nursing program at Dutchess Community College at Poughkeepsie, was employed at the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale as a therapy aide and also a therapy aide in Philmont.

Ruth retired from Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center, while there she studied nursing.

Survivors include five children, Henry Ray Patrick Jr. of Hendersonville, George David Patrick of Purling, Margaret Helen Rogers of Beatty, Ore., Martha Elizabeth Sensinig of White City, Ore., and Doris Jan Rothrock of South Cairo; 15 grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; and sister, Jane Rothamil of Buffalo.

Besides her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Henry Ray Patrick in 1976; and two brothers, Vernon and Wallace Chadderdon.

Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006 at Richards Funeral Home, 29 Bross Street, Cairo, with the Rev. Father John Miller of the Calvary Episcopal Church in Cairo officiating. The time of the funeral will be announced.

Private cremation will follow at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 and 7-8pm.

The Cairo Chapter O.E.S. will conduct services in her memory Monday evening at 7:30pm.

West Coxsackie – Rosemarie Patti, 73, of Sunset Boulevard, West Coxsackie, died Oct. 25, 2006 at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany.

Born in Orange, NJ, June 7, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Ann (Ballanti) Fagone.

She had been an area resident of Coxsackie since 1956, a communicant of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, and loved gardening, cooking and crafts. She was a member of the Columbiette, the Altar Rosary Society and also was an Eucharistic Minister and lector.

She is survived by her husband Thomas Patti of Coxsackie; a son Christopher Patti and wife Mary Ann of West Coxsackie; a daughter Mrs. James (Mary Ann) Miller of Athens; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Paulette) Cosenza of New Baltimore and Annabelle Valenti of L.I.; a grandson, Anthony Patti of West Coxsackie; and several nieces and nephews.

Coxsackie – James J. Coyne, 74, of 29 Mystery Court, Coxsackie, died suddenly Oct. 27, 2006 at Albany Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born in New York City on June 4, 1932 and was the son of the late James and Mary (Martin) Coyne

James had been an area resident since 1963 and was a devoted communicant of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Coxsackie. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. He was also a marketing manager for Freihofer Baking Company of Albany. He was past president and treasurer of the Earlton Fire Company, and a past volunteer. He was an avid golfer and a great patriot.

At the time of his death he was the Coxsackie town justice. He was also a member of the Coxsackie Post 166 of the American Legion. He was a member of the Greene County Magistrates Association.

He is survived by his wife Edna F. (Bruns) Coyne of Coxsackie; three sons, James E. Coyne and his wife Susan of Ohio, Edward Coyne and his wife Sandi of Texas and John Coyne and his wife Bernadette of Coxsackie; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Catherine) Pacifico of Cairo and Elizabeth Coyne of New Jersey; a sister, Mary Coyne of New York City; and nine grandchildren, James, Caitlin and Lauren Pacifico and James, Erin, Michael, Samantha, Emily and Connor Coyne.

Catskill – Thomas Kiely, 78, of Palenville, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006 at the Pavilion Senior Residence in Catskill.

Mr. Kiely was born Sept. 2, 1928 in Woodside, Queens, the son of the late John and Sarah (Brady) Kiely.

Thomas served in the US Army. He later owned and operated Kiely Inc., Kimi Sales and Shamrock Garage in Woodside with his brothers and sister prior to his retirement in 1983.

A Palenville, Greene County, resident since August 1972, Thomas was a member of the Catskill Elks Lodge 1341; Honeyford Memorial Post 110 American Legion and the College Point Yacht Club. Thomas had a passion for antique automobile restorations and gardening.

Mr. Kiely was predeceased by two brothers, John Kiely and William Kiely; and a sister, Helen Romano.

Mr. Kiely is survived by his wife of 53 years, June Kiely of Palenville; three children, Kim Leggio, Jill Sirianni and Keith Kiely, all of Palenville; two sons-in-law, Joseph N. Leggio, all of Palenville; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Catskill – Leonard Aldredge Woodard, 74, formerly of Hunter, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, at the Charwell Home in Norwood, Mass., where he had been a patient.

Mr. Woodard was born in Sept. 3, 1932 in Haines Falls by the late Cecil Ellsworth and Alice Aldredge Woodard.

He was an aerospace engineer for Pratt Whitney in Hartford, Conn., prior to his retirement.

Mr. Woodard is survived by his three children, Alice Woodard of Milton, Mass., Keith Woodard of Norfolk, Mass., and Bruce Woodard of Salt Lake City, Utah; his former wife, Dorothy Lippincott of Charlottesville, Va.; and two grandsons, Bryce Woodard and Ian Sebastian.

He was predeceased by his sister, Ruth Elaine Woodard in 1958.

Private cremation was conducted under the direction of the May Funeral Service of Northwood, Mass.

Interment will take place in the Town of Catskill Cemetery under the direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

She was employed as an officer at the Long Island Savings Bank and as a long time resident of Round Top.

Norma M. Gelinas, 78, of Red Hook, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.

A local resident for 41 years, she previously lived in Woodstock, Vt.

Born Feb. 14, 1928 in Woodstock, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Helen Carpenter Cook.

She graduated from Woodstock High School in 1943, where she played girls varsity basketball.

Mrs. Gelinas enjoyed cooking and at one time was a chef at the Woodstock Inn in Woodstock.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Brian J. and Lisa Gelinas of Red Hook, Clarke and Cathy Gelinas of Quakertown, Pa. and Bo and Jude Gelinas of Elizaville; three grandchildren, Helen Rose Gelinas of Germantown and William Joseph Gelinas and Megan Gabrielle Gelinas, both of Red Hood; and a cousin.

She was predeceased by her husband, Roger A. Gelinas.

Catskill – Joseph Francis Notaro, 64, of Catskill, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, after a long battle with cancer.

Born May 15, 1942 in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Peter and Carmela Tedesco Notaro.

Formerly of Brooklyn, Joseph had been an area resident since 1988. He loved listening to music and working around his house.

Mr. Notaro was employed as a mortuary technician at Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn.

Survivors include by his wife of 44 years, Marie Notaro of Catskill; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael A. and Maria Notaro of New Jersey; a sister and brother-in-law, Annette and Joseph Caccavo of Brooklyn; two grandchildren, Alyssa Nicole Notaro of Catskill; a niece, and several friends.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm Tuesday at Traver & McCurry Funeral Home 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Funeral services will be held 8pm Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Peter Greene Community Hospice chaplain, officiating.

Cornwallville – Donald E. Dunn, 72, of Nuzio Road, Cornwallville, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, at his residence.

Born Oct. 5, 1934 in Manhattan, he was the son of the late John and Catherine Piel Dunn.

He served in the United States Navy from 1951-1955.

He had been an area resident for the past 31 years.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Dunn owned and operated Robert’s Express Trucking in Cornwallville.

He was a member of the D.A.V., was a story teller and a gourmet cook.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria P. Ramirez Dunn of Cornwallville; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Janice Dunn of Holbrook, Long Island, Sean and Gloria of Flushing, Queens County, and Robert Dunn of Claverack; five daughters and two sons-in-law, Joann and Andrew Fanino of Long Island, Cathy Tivenan of Brooklyn, Karen and Benny Parlatore of Long Island, Patricia Dunn of Queens and Tricia Tivenan of Brooklyn; a brother Robert Dunn of Long Island; and 11 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Donald.

Calling hours will be held prior to services Nov. 11 at the residence of the family.

Memorial services will take place 2pm Nov. 11 at the family residence with the Rev. Retta Lykens, pastor of the Cairo United Methodist Church, officiating.

Private cremation took place at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.

Saugerties – Christine Fanning-Pettinichi, 42, of Route 32, died suddenly Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at her residence.

Born June 20, 1964 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late William and Geraldine Shine-Fanning.

A 1982 graduate of Saugerties High School, Mrs. Fanning-Pettinichi was employed at Meredith’s Bread in Kingston as a baker. She was also a former chef at the Horn of Plenty.

A parishioner of St. Mary of the Snow Roman Catholic Church in Saugerties, she often cooked in their kitchen for fundraisers.

Survivors include her husband, James J. Pettinichi; two sisters, Frances Osborne of Jacksonville, N.C. and Julie Keenan of Rochester; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

A funeral procession will form 10:30am Thursday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette streets thence to St. Mary of the Snow Roman Catholic Church where an 11am Mass for Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Interment will be held in the Blue Mountain Cemetery, Saugerties.

Albany – Merrill Mosley, 75, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, at St. Peter’s Hospital after a long illness.

He was an Army combat veteran of the Korean War.Mr. Mosely worked as a foreman for the city of Albany, Department of General Services for 16 years, retiring in 1988.

He was a member of the North Albany American Legion Post.
