Born June 30, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Anne (Devaney) Courtney.
She was a life long homemaker and a member of the Greenville Irish-American Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia A. Gibbons of Greenville; a brother, Harold Holly of Stoneridge; a sister, Christine Torney of Richmond, VA; and three nephews, Douglas, Daniel, and David Holly.
Mrs. Gibbons was predeceased by her husband, Richard Gibbons in 1970.

ACRA---Elli Asken, 92 of Old Route 23, Acra, died Tuesday, April 30 at Community Hospice at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born August 27, 1909 in Germany, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Anna Mehrmann Ostkamp.
She migrated to the United States in 1935 and moved to Acra in 1946. She owned and operated Camp Ellerick for Children in Acra. She was a member of the Cairo Golden Age Club and a communicant of the Sacred Heart Church of Cairo.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 10 to 10:45 AM, Thursday at the Richards Funeral Home, 383 Bross Street, Cairo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Thursday at the Sacred Heart Church, Cairo, Rev. J. Nunan, Pastor will be the celebrant. Interment will follow next to her late husband, Eric, in the family plot of St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Catskill.

ATHENS---Robert John Starkey, 66 of Athens died Thursday, April 25, 2002 at his residence.
Born June 26, 1935 at Ramapo, New York, he was the son of James and Margaret (Blasco) Starkey.
Mr. Starkey was a life member of the National Rifle Association and an avid outdoorsman and sportsman.
He was recently retired from National Propane in West Athens where he had been a driver.
Survivors include his mother, Margaret Blasco of Spring Valley; daughter Deborah L. Sidley of Monroe; son, Robert J. Starkey Jr. of Monroe; daughter, Susan Doriguzzi of Catskill; daughter, Denise L. Starkey of South Cairo; daughter , Brenda L. Starkey of Athens; grandson, Charles Doriguzzi of Catskill; granddaughter, Kimberly Doriguzzi of Catskill; grandson, Sean T. Sidley of Monroe; grandson, Shane R. Sidley of Monroe; grandson, David J. Starkey of South Cairo; brother, James Starkey of Florida; sister Lucille Whittaker of North Carolina; brother, Richard Starkey of Florida; brother, Charles Starkey of Mountainville, NY; a sister Diane Roper of Chester, NY; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr Starkey was predeceased by his father, James Starkey and sister, Beatrice Schmidt.

Funeral services will be 1 PM, Thursday in the Brick Church in Spring Valley, NY. Friends and relatives may meet at the funeral home 10 AM Thursday, May 2 prior to the funeral procession to Spring Valley for services.
Interment will be in the Brick Church Cemetery in Spring Valley, NY.

COXSACKIE---Betty M. Galle, 85, formerly of Alfred Station, NY, died Thursday, April 25 at the home she shared for five years with her daughter in Coxsackie.
Born Dec 1, 1916 in Center, PA, she lived in Pennsylvania for over 40 years before moving to Allegany County, New York.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Roba Sopko. Married for over 50 years to her husband Chester R. Galle, who predeceased her five years ago this April 6, in Hornell, NY.
She loved to travel and was an avid gardener. She loved growing plants both indoors and in her gardens. She passed her love of growing things on to her son, Chester S. Galle, and daughter, Elizabeth Galle Cole.
Survivors include her son, Chester, his wife Shirley, their two sons, Stephen and Kenneth all of Alfred Station, NY and daughter Elizabeth of Coxsackie.

SOUTH CAIRO---Mario Marcelli, 86, of Route 23 B, South Cairo, died suddenly, Wednesday May 1, at his home.
Born April 13, 1916 in Bristol PA, he was the son of the late Basilio and Rosa (Specia) Marcelli.
Mr. Marcelli served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II.
He was an employee of Lehigh Cement Company in Cementon for 42 years prior to his retirement.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith Olivett of South Cairo; a sister, Santa Cooke of Catskill; two brothers, Gerald Roccio of Catskill and Albert Rocco of Italy; a sister-in-law, Ada Rocco of Elizaville; four grandsons, George Acker Sr. and wife Joann, both of South Cairo; John Olivett and wife Brenda, both of Athens; Michael Olivett and wife Nicole, both of Coxsackie; and Anthony Olivett of South Cairo; four great-grandchildren, George Acker, Jr., Michael Acker, Diana Acker, Jenna Olivett and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Marcelli was predeceased by his wife, Edith E. Marcelli on June 10, 2000; a daughter, Vivian Marcelli Acker on April 6, 1961; and a son, Paul Marcelli on march 27, 1994.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 PM, Friday at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

LEEDS---Charles C. Marsh, 85 of Forrest Hills Estates Leeds, died Monday evening, April 29 at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill.
He was born April 19, 1917 in Ashland, NH, the son of the late Charles and Grace (Pierce) Marsh.
Mr. Marsh was a self-employed private contractor for many years prior to retirement.
Formerly of Raymond, NH, Mr. Marsh had been a Leeds area resident since 1985.
Survivors include a daughter, Charlene Brown McDonald of Allentown, NH; a grandson, Charles J. Brown of Manchester, NH; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Marsh was predeceased by his wife, Helen M. Marsh, Feb. 2, 2002.
Private funeral services and interment will be held at the Bedford Center Cemetery in Bedford, NH. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, Catskill.

CATSKILL---Joan M. Curless 43, of Catskill, died Thursday May 2 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson after a short illness.
Born April 12, 1959 in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Hiram and Joan (Curry) Storbeck.
Mrs. Curless was a loving mother and was a working for Vertis in Saugerties.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Curless; her children, Iva Gay, Ida Merritt, Jimmy Curless Jr, Hiram, Howard, Irene and Victoria Curless; three grandchildren, Frank and Lola Gay and Theresa Merritt; four sisters, Rose Sausville, Alice Camarillo, April Soto and a brother, George Strobeck.

ATHENS---Meta C. DeBak, 93, of Flats Road, Athens, died Saturday May 4 at Eden Park Nursing Home, Catskill, where she had been a patient for the last four and a half years.
Born April 13, 1909 in Germany, she was the daughter of the late Pete and Christine (Jensen) Friedrichsen.
During her days of employment, she worked for the Athens Hotel. She was also a member of the First Reformed Church of Athens and a member of the Ladies Guild.
Mrs. DeBak loved to bowl and was a member of numerous bowling leagues in the area. Besides bowling her hobby was making apple pies.
Survivors include two daughters, Georgine Andersen of Cairo; and Wilma Hommel of ARIZ; many grandchildren, three of which are Rear Admiral L. Hering, USN, Richard Hering, Christine LoGuidice and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. DeBak was predeceased by her husband, Leendert.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9, Friday at the Richards Funeral Home, 28 N. Vernon Street, Athens.
Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. Richard Pruiksma will officiate.

PRATTSVILLE---Martha J. Marsh, 69 of Prattsville, died Friday, May 3, 2002 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born January 6, 1933 in Lexington, she was the daughter of Rose and Lee Delmar. She was married for 51 years to Michael Marsh.
Mrs. Marsh was a past member of the Prattsville Rescue Squad, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Women’s Bowling Association.
Survivors include sons, Michael Jr. of Florida; Anthony of Prattsville and Patrick. Daughter-in-law, Dorothy of Prattsville; daughter, Roxane of Florida; brothers and sisters, Sheldon Delmar and wife Connie; Val Cross and wife Stella; Ted Robinson and wife Alice; Robert Gurley and wife Virginia; Richard Ballard and wife Kitty Lee; Robert Gurley and wife Mary; five grandchildren, Corey, Joe, Jeremy, Kevin Marsh and Jody Kraft, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Survivors include two nieces, Audrey Braker and Elizabeth Caparosa; and three nephews, Alvin, Kenneth and James Weeks.

Pioneer in the preparation of polyurethane
ATHENS---John (Jack) H. Nichols, 80 died Monday, May 6, 2002.
Born April 18, 1922, he was the son of the late Harry and Ester (Stanton) Nichols of East Orange, NJ.
Mr. Nichols graduated with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from David and Elkins College. He did his graduate studies at George Washington University.
He was an internationally known pioneer in the preparation of polyurethanes. For a period of five years, he contracted out to the International Division of Technological Documents. He was Laboratory Manager (Urethane Systems) for NAPCO Chemical Division of Diamond Shamrock Chemical Company in North Arlington, NJ.
Mr. Nichols was a member of the American Chemical Society, as well as Past Master of Copestone-Ophsir No. 108 Masonic Lodge in Kearney, NJ. He was an avid camera buff and ham radio operator.
Mr. Nichols is a direct descendent of Brigadier General George Sylvester Nichols of Athens, who fought in the Civil War. He was an adherent member of the First Reformed Church of Athens.
Mr. Nichols was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Margaret Smith Nichols, who died in 1993.
There will be no calling hours. A private commital service will be conducted by the Rev. Richard Pruiksma at the family mausoleum in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Athens.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Richards Funeral Home, 26 N. Vernon Street, Athens.

Born May 28, 1915 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Dennis and Mary Luby. A Leeds summer resident for many years, Mrs. McQuillan moved to Leeds full-time in 1969.
She was a communicant of St. Bridget’s Church in Leeds.
Survivors include two daughters, Helen Holmberg of Albany and Mary Ann Gabriele of Leeds, a son-in-law, Michael Gabriele of Leeds; and two grandchildren, Christopher P. Holmberg of Clifton Park and Cathleen H. Holmberg of Schenectady.
Mrs. McQuillan was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.

World War II veteran
KISKATOM---William Michael Vardy, 77 of Route 32 Kiskatom, died suddenly Monday May 6, 2002 at home.
Born January 19, 1925 in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late James and Anna (Hosking) Vardy.
Mr. Vardy served in the US Army. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations, and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Stars.
He was a dedicated and loyal employee of the Catskill Game Farm for nearly 40 years. He was a past member of the Kiskatom Fire Department.
Survivors include three sons, William M. Vardy Jr., of Newport News, VA, Dennis Vardy of Saugerties and Mark Vardy of Saugerties; three daughters, Jo Ann South of Catskill, Janet Krak of Catskill and Lorraine Stanley of Hudson; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Vardy was predeceased by his wife, Ethel M. Nordenberg Vardy on September 30, 1993.
As a father, grandfather and friend, he will be missed.

Born September 9, 1913 in Leeds, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Martina (Anderson) Wolfe.
She and her late husband owned and operated Bob’s Taxi in Leeds for many years as well as providing school bus transportation.
Survivors include a son, Martin Delanoy of Leeds; nephew, Ronald Sherman of Catskill; nephew, Lawrence McGiffert of Catskill; great-niece, Dawn Apjohn; great-great nephew, Aidan Apjohn; and great-great niece, Rhiannon Scotti.
Mrs. Monteverde was predeceased by her husband, Robert Monteverde on September 28, 1990, a sister, Marie Sherman; a brother, Martin Wolfe, a sister Etta Seeley, and a daughter, Natalie Scotti.

TANNERSVILLE---Marilyn (Teeny) Phelan Kinney, 61, of Tannersville, died Saturday, May 11, 2002 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
Mrs. Kinney was born April 8, 1941 in Windham, daughter of the late John Judd and Frances Judd. She was a lifelong area resident.
She was a homemaker and also was employed by New York State. She was active for many years in the Ladies Auxiliary of Tannersville Fire Department.
Surviving is her husband, David; three sons and two daughters-in-law, John and Anna, Michael and Jackie, and Wayne Kinney; five grandchildren, Peter, Emma, Logan, Alex and MacKenzie; four brothers, John, Eddie, Wayne and Peter; and a sister, Kathryn Frumen, and their families.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, 6424 Main St., Hunter. A Memorial Mass will be at 10 AM Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Haines Falls, with the Rev. Anthony Motta officiating. Cremation was held at the Wiltwyck Rural Crematory in Kingston.

GRAYSBURG, N.C.---Gwendolyn A. Lashley, 45, died Monday, May 6, 2002 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Born June 29, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Annie Pearl and Alex Lee Lashley.
She received her education in the Northampton County School System. She then moved to Hudson where she worked at American Valve for ten years. Upon her return to North Carolina, she attended Halifax Community College where she received her Certificate for Personal Nurse’s Aide.
Survivors include her sons, Alexander Barnhill and Jamar Barnhill; one daughter, Dominique Lashley; grandmother, Nora L. Mitchell; a dear friend, Jerome Turner; two sisters, Debra Brooks and Katrina Dempsey; four brothers, Jeremiah Lashley of Germany; Alex Lashley Jr. of Catskill; Lamont Lashley of New York; William Lashley of Albany; a stepmother, Candi Lashley of Albany; a brother-in-law, James Brooks of Weldon, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Tina Lashley and Leona Lashley of Germany; and many aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 11 at the New Jerusalem Holiness Church, Garyburg, N.C.
Interment was at the New Jerusalem Holiness Church Cemetery.

GREENVILLE---Rita M. Swartz, 84 of Greenville, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
She was born in Poughkeepsie on Nov. 26, 1917, daughter of the late Edmund Benkert and Carrie (Bunten) Benkert.
Mrs. Swartz was an administrative assistant at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie until her retirement in 1981. She was a devoted wife and mother and had a special fondness for her Teddy Bear collection.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Lawrence Swartz; three daughters, Carol Petersen of Milford, Conn., Nancy Scheyhing and her husband Fred of Danbury, Conn. And Donna Gerard and her husband Jack of Cooperstown; a son, Donald Swartz, and his wife Mindy of Red Hook; a brother, Edmund Benkert of Wappingers Falls; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Hermina Meehan.
Calling hours will be 6 to 9 PM Thursday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville. A funeral service will be at 10 AM Friday at the Greenville-Norton Hill United Methodist Church. Interment will be at the Lagrangeville Rural Cemetery.

GREENVILLE---George Turon, 87 of Greenville, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill.
He was born in Bayonne, N.J. on Aug 13, 1914, son of the late George Turon and Mary (Koczinsky) Turon.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Turon was a dairy farmer for many years and also worked on the railroad and in construction. He was a member of Local 190.
Mr. Turon enjoyed the outdoors and nature. He had a large garden every year until illness prevented him from continuing this activity. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping and snowmobiling.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Martha (Rundell) Turon; a daughter, Sally Carlin and her husband, Stuart, of Frisco, Texas; a son, Leland Turon and his wife, Diane, of Tannersville; five grandsons, Ryan, Rhett, and Brandon Carlin; Eric and Kyle Turon; two granddaughters, Erin and Tara Turon; three step grandchildren, Wendi, Nicole and Charles Jacobs; seven step great-grandchildren; a brother, John Turon of Florida; four sisters, Mary and Elsie Turon of Greenville, Ruth Birmarin of Schroon Lake and Helen Koch of Schenectady; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sons, Gary Turon and Kenneth Turon; two brothers, Joseph Turon and Charles Turon; and a sister, Mildred.

CATSKILL---Theresa Margaret Thorne, 74 of Catskill, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
She was born in Philadelphia on Nov. 16, 1927, daughter of the late Edward Gallagher and Susan (Dougherty) Gallagher.
Mrs. Thorne was a long-time summer resident of Greene County prior to moving to Elka Park in the 1940s. She was an employee of the Catskill Game Farm before her retirement.
Mrs. Thorne was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Catskill, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Theresa No. 277; rip Van Winkle Club; St. Patrick’s Rosary Altar Society; and a former member of the Catskill Senior Bowling League.
She is survived by a son, Donald B. Thorne of Catskill; two daughters, Lillian Fischer and Susan V. Jansen, both of Catskill; a brother, Edward J. Gallagher of South Cairo; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Born April 12, 1947, in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Louis J. Mox and Irene Pietrunti Mox.
She was married on Sept 19, 1966 in Ravena to Alan Ollmetzer who survives at home.
Mrs. Ollmetzer was ordained into the ministry in 1999 and together with her husband, who is also ordained, served their Lord in Prairie Fire Ministry.
She was also a member of the Call to Pray Ministry in Albany and the Women’s Auxiliary of the Medway-Grapeville Fire Company.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her two
children: David and his wife Melissa Ollmetzer of Ravena; Ann and her husband
Paul Eddy of Berne; a sister, Phyllis Mose of

Mrs. Feml was born in Queens, July 13, 1959, daughter of John Murphy and Catherine (Bassey) Murphy of Catskill.
She had been a resident of Cairo for the past 20 years, a member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church of Cairo, the Cairo Hose Co. Ladies Auxiliary and also the Catskill Elks Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Feml enjoyed collecting angels.
Surviving are her husband, Brian J. Feml; two sons, Christopher Feml and Joseph Feml of Cairo; four brothers, Michael Murphy of Long Island, Patrick Murphy of Catskill, Thomas Murphy of Cairo and Brian Murphy of North Carolina; a sister, Margaret Smith of Virginia; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Marilyn Wolfe.

She worked for the New York State Department of Audit and Control in Albany, retiring in 1983.
Mrs. Fay was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Ravena, a member of Senior Projects of Ravena, and enjoyed her family, bingo and knitting.
Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. George (Dolores) Boehlke of Hannacroix; two granddaughters, Mrs. William (Georgia) Boehlke of Hannacroix and Mrs. David (Diane) Lapinski of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born in Syracuse, where he resided in the winter with his daughter, Emma Jane Fiesinger. He retired to the family home in Spruceton.
Mr. Fiesinger was a graduate of Solvay High School in 1932 and Clarkson University in 1937. He was an industrial engineer.
A communicant of St. Ann’s Church, Syracuse, he was awarded the St. George Medal from the Diocese of Syracuse for Boy Scouts of America activities. He was also awarded the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America. He was an active volunteer with Exploring Your world Children’s Program.
Survivors include a daughter, Emma-Jane Fiesinger of Syracuse, daughter, Laura Fiesinger of Herkimer; son, Edward G. Fiesinger of Houston; son, Richard P. Fiesinger of Cincinnati; son, Charles H. Fiesinger of North Syracuse; Donald W. Fiesinger of Logan, Utah; a son, Robert P. Fiesinger of North Syracuse; a brother F. She married on April 5, 1942 in Coxsackie to the late Orrin Kinch.
Mrs. Kinch was the bookkeeper and cashier for the Community Theater for many years. She also worked as a secretary for John Wilhelm in Catskill form many years and with the Department of the Aging’s Green Thumb.

Mrs. DeLosa was born in Union City, NJ, Jan. 27, 1916, daughter of the late John Siebert and Lucy (Rouse) Siebert.
She was a Cairo-area resident since 1949 and while living in Cairo, owned and operated Florence’s Hair Studio. She was a communicant at the Sacred Heart Church of Cairo.
Mrs. DeLosa enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, doing crossword puzzles and was especially devoted to her family.
Surviving are her daughter, Pauline F. Walker of Cairo; a son, John DeLosa of Pine Plains; four grandchildren, Lisa M. DeLosa, Kristine Walker, Travis DeLosa and Ryan DeLosa.

Born March 24, 1991 in Hudson, he was the son of Andrew M. and Patricia A. (Schubert) Haftek.
Daniel was a lifelong resident of Greene County and attended the fifth grade at the Cairo-Durham Elementary School. He loved to read, cut wood and play with his electronic games.
Besides his parents, survivors include his maternal grandparents, Robert and Nancy Schubert of Round Top; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, William and Pat Haftek.

COLONIE---William F. Hutchinson Jr., 91, of South Colonie, died Sunday, May 26, 2002 at Albany Memorial Hospital.
He was husband to Mary A. Donnelly of Watervliet, deceased.
Born in Shaftsbury, Vt., Mr. Hutchinson moved to Latham as a young child. He was a graduate of Watervliet High School in 1930 and lived in the Town of Colonie most of his life.
He retired as Assistant Superintendent of the Latham Water District in 1974. With the exception of his military service in World War II he worked for the district continuously from 1932 until his retirement.
He helped lay the first water lines in the Town of Colonie. He served as staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe from 1942 to 1945. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed fishing and spending his days at Bright Horizons at the Beltrone Living Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Anne of Albany; four sons, Bill of Poughkeepsie, Tom of Albany, Jim and his wife Marisa of Gallup, N.M., and John and his wife Lisa of East Nassau; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brothers, Warren and Ed; and one sister, Lois.
He was predeceased by his sister, Ruth and his wife, Mary.

Mrs. Lennon was born at the Dale Sanitorium in Saugerties on Nov. 14, 1949 to the late John Robb Craig and Marian Myer Craig.
She graduated from Catskill High School and the Mildred Elly School in Albany. She was employed for 15 years as a cancellations clerk with Commercial Mutual Insurance Company on Main Street in Catskill and recently retired from the company’s Kingston office.
Mrs. Lennon married Grant Lennon on Feb 25, 1977 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Catskill.
Survivors include her mother, Marian Craig of Catskill; husband, Grant Lennon Catskill; sister, Mrs. David (Jodi) Guldenstern, also of Catskill; niece, Erin Guldenstern; and aunt, Nancy Githner of Saugerties.
She was predeceased by her father, John Robb Craig, on July 21, 1984.

CAIRO---Mary Pizzo, 89, of Cairo, formerly of Potter Hollow, died Saturday, April 6, 2002 at Ellis Hospital after falling at a nursing home. She had been in poor health for several years prior to her accident.
Born Dec 4, 1912, in Palermo, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Francesco and Concetta Pizzo.
She sailed to America in 1918 with the remainder of the family after the flu epidemic killed her father and several siblings. The second oldest of her four siblings, she assumed the leadership role in the family, being the first one to go to work and help support her mother, who spoke Italian. While her other siblings grew up and married, she remained devoted to her mother until her mother’s death in 1957.
She purchased a farm and 120 acres of land in Potter Hollow in 1953 and eventually moved to upstate from New York City and she started Mary’s Restaurant in Greenville.
She retired in the early 1980s and moved to Florida for a short period of time. However, she could not get used to the environment there and eventually moved to Oak Hill and then to Potter Hollow where she built a house and remained a resident until she became ill.
Her life was devoted to service to both her family and the community. Her early experience of immigration, having to face the adversities of blending into a less then culturally tolerant turn of the century New York City brought out qualities which served her well the rest of her life.
She had a propensity to take care of others combined with a strong spirituality. At one point in her life she entered the convent briefly but then withdrew when her mother needed help at home. She was always independent and had a strong sense of social responsibility.
Those close to her will remember her as someone who cared about other people, as a keen business woman, as a responsible citizen, and perhaps most of all as a deeply spiritual person who touched the lives of everyone she met.
Survivors include her two sisters, Connie Hughes of Florida and Rose Adonolfi of Virginia; two brothers, Dominick Pizzo of Italy and Salvadore Pizzo of Florida; also nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Sadie Marinelli and a brother, Joseph Pizzo.
A memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited will be 4 PM Friday, May 31 from the Cunningham Funeral Home.

ROUND TOP---Stephen Glogovics, 68, of Mountain Avenue, Round Top, died Monday, May 27, 2002 at his residence.
He was born in Newburgh, Jan. 23, 1934 and was the son of the late Peter and Mary (Kusman) Glogovics.
Prior to retiring in the Town of Cairo in 1991 he was a professional truck driver for the Liberty Trucking Company of New York City.
Mr. Glogovics was a member of the Cairo Durham Elks, Our Lady of Knock Council Knights of Columbus of East Durham and a communicant of the Sacred Heart Church of Cairo. He loved art, painting, drawing and the whittling of wood. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine (Taormina) Glogovics of Round Top; and a daughter, Susan Glogovics of New York City.
He was predeceased by his parents and a son, Peter Stephen Glogovics.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at the Richards Funeral Home, 383 Bross St., Cairo.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Thursday at the Sacred Heart Church of Cairo. Pastor Jeremiah Nunan will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the family plot of the Round Top Cemetery.

ATHENS---Dorothy E. Greene Brady, 77 of South Franklin Street, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at Columbia-Greene Long Term Care, Catskill.
Born Oct 4, 1924 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Debra Soich Greene.
She was married on Sept. 15, 1951 in Christ Episcopal Church, Coxsackie to Alan Brady.
Mrs. Brady was a graduate of Swathmore College in Pennyslvania. Prior to her marriage she was employed by the New York State Assembly.
She is a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Coxsackie, and was a former member of the Athens Garden Club. She organized the March of Dimes Campaign for many years in Athens.
Survivors include her three children, Susan Brady of Quincy, Mass., Edward Brady of Athens and Michael Brady of Athens; her brother, Thom Greene of Athens; three grandchildren, Sara Brady, Corey Brady and Nathaniel Brady; a niece, Debra Mondra; and a nephew, Raymond Greene.
Mrs. Brady was predeceased by her husband, Alan Brady, who died in October 1967.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Friday at the Sopris Funeral Home, Route 9W, West Coxsackie.
Services will be conducted 11 AM, Saturday, June 1 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Athens.

GHENT--- Curtis Nelson Dumary, 86, of Stone Mill Road, Claverack, formerly of Ten Broeck Avenue, Greenport, died Monday, May 27, 2002 at Green Manor Nursing Home.
Born May 19, 1916 in Athens, he was the son of the late Frank and Etta (Van Loan) Dumary.
Mr. Dumary was employed as an engineering clerk at the V & O Press until retiring. He served as staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II where he earned the American Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. After the service he was employed by Montgomery Ward in the collection department.
He was an active member of the First Reformed Church in Hudson. An avid music lover, he enjoyed singing with the church choir, Glee Club, with his brothers and with his late wife, Jeanne (Wescott) Dumary.
Survivors include a nephew, Peter Dumary of Catskill; a sister-in-law, Marian McCumber of Binghamton; four nieces, Linda Carr of Catskill, Collene Griffith of Denver, Cathleen Cantelupe of Gloversville and Christine Gilbert of Athens; and many dear friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jeanne in 1997; two brothers, Peter Dumary and Frank Dumary, who was killed in World War II.
Calling hours will be 9 AM Saturday at the Bates and Anderson Funeral Home 110 Green St., Hudson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 AM Saturday at the First Reformed Church, 52 Green St., Hudson. Interment will be at Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson.
