CATSKILL – John Munson Bentley, 88, of Wildwing Park, died Sunday, April 29, 2001 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born Sept. 8, 1912 in Windham, he was the son of the late Ellis and Nellie (Munson) Bentley.
Mr. Bentley owned and operated Sandanonah Farm in Windham. He was the school clerk for Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central Schools and was also an employee for Alex Varga, CPA in Catskill prior to his retirement.
He attended the First Reformed Church in Catskill.
Survivors include two sons, John E. Bentley of St. Joseph, Mich. And Raymond M. Bentley Sr. of Claverack; a sister, Lois Katovitch of Union Springs; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bentley was predeceased by two wives, Inez Roosa Bentley in 1958 and Anna Evelene Bentley on April 13, 2001; and two sisters, Elizabeth Bentley Darrin and Marjorie Kent.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.
Funeral services will be held 12 noon, Wednesday, May 2, at the funeral home. Rev. David Overton, Pastor at Mitchell Hollow Mission Church and Community Hospice Champlain will officiate.
Interment will be at Windham Village Cemetery in Windham.

BRUNO DOBIES Sr.
Owner Rose Motel in Durham
DURHAM – Bruno Dobies Sr., 90 of Durham, died Monday, April 30, 2001 at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill.
Born March 20, 1911 in Queens, N.Y., he was the son of the late Anthony and Veronica Dobies.
Mr. Dobies served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the Pioneer 729 and was credited with five major campaigns.
Prior to entering the military, he was the manager of a retail store.
In 1958 Bruno and his wife Rose were resort owners, owning and operating the Rose Motel in Durham.
He was also a member of the Durham Valley American Legion Post #1416, the Oak Hill-Durham Vol. Fire Co. and was a past member of the Pyramid Lodge #490 F & AM.
Survivors include his son Bruno Dobies Jr. and his wife Mary, a granddaughter, Jennifer Dobies, a grandson, Joseph Dobies, all of Durham; and a sister, Natalie Skudura of Ariz.
Mr. Dobies was predeceased by his wife Rose Dobies in 1996.
Calling hours will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 state Route 81, Greenville.
Funeral services will be 12:15 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with a 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham.
Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

ROBERT WILLIAMS
Former Radio and Television personality
TANNERSVILLE – Robert Williams, 81, of Bedford Hills, and Tannersville, died Friday, April 20, 2001 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born July 16, 1919 in Charlotte, N.C., he was raised by the Edwin Gould family in Margaretville.
Mr. Williams was a radio and television announcer in the 1950’s and 60’s and has an illustrious career in the entertainment industry.
He was the creator of Double or Nothing, he was the master of ceremonies for Treasure Hunt on CBS with Jan Murray; the master of ceremonies for the Eddie Cantor Show. He was once the spokesman for the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in the early 1950’s and 60’s. He was also the creator of the Right Guard “Two Kinds of People” advertisement.
He loved vacationing in the Catskill Mountains, especially in the Timberline Ranch.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas F. Williams; and Donald E. Williams; both of Los Angeles, Calif.; as well as two grandchildren.
Cremation was conducted at the Wiltwyck Rural Crematory, in Kingston.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Aston and Basagic Funeral Home, Main Street, Hunter.
Memorial donations may be made to the Tannersville Rescue Squad.

CATSKILL - George J. Yannone, 81 of Jefferson Heights, Catskill, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Mr. Yannone was born June 10th, 1919 in Catskill, the son of the late Alex Yannone and Julia (DiSimone) Yannone.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater as a combat medic and was awarded numerous medals. He received his Licensed Practical Nurse degree in 1948.
Mr. Yannone was a life member of the Sullivan-Teator VFW Post 770 and Honey ford Memorial Post 110 – American Legion. He was a member of the Catskill Senior Fellowship.
He was a communicant at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Catskill.
Mr. Yannone was predeceased by three brothers, Alex Yannone Jr., Frank Yannone, and Anthony Yannone; and two sisters, Adeline Sheets and Antoinette Peters.
He is survived by two sisters, Laura Halpin, of Albany, and Jean Philips of Catskill; a brother, Julian Yannone, of Catskill; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. John J. Murphy, Pastor of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Catskill, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Catskill.

LAS VEGAS – Robert V. Delanoy Sr., 48, of Las Vegas, died suddenly Wednesday May 2, 2001, in Las Vegas.
Born May 15, 1952, in Catskill, he was the son of Elizabeth Kreitner Delanoy and the late Robert L. Delanoy.
Mr. Delanoy attended St. Patrick’s Academy and was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School, Class of 1970.
Formerly of Catskill, he had been a Las Vegas resident for the past 20 years. He was an employee at Oasis Apartments in Las Vegas at the time of his death.
In addition to his mother, survivors include a son, Robert V. Delanoy Jr. of Las Vegas; four sisters, Cathy Delanoy of Catskill, Darlene Kubler of South Cairo, Valerie Bunce of Scottsdale Air Force Base, Ill., and Tammi McGrath of South Cairo; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. The Rev. John J. Murphy, pastor of St. Patrick’s Church will officiate.
Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Catskill.

ATHENS – Funeral Services were Friday for Gertrude Iva Wormuth, 98, of Athens, who died March 13, 2001 at Columbia-Greene Long Term Care facility in Catskill, after a long illness.
Born April 2, 1902, in Bernewood, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Tunis Misner and Cordelia Scord Misner.
She was a self-employed nurse’s aide in the health care profession and a long-time member of the Federated Church of Athens.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond Wormuth and Edward Wormuth, both of Athens, five grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousin and dear friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ralph R. Wormuth in 1963, and her son, Alvin.
Funeral services were conducted at the Federated Church of Athens, with the Rev. Lynn Sullivan, pastor, officiating.
Interment followed in the family plot of the Old Athens Rural Cemetery, next to her late husband.

COXSACKIE – Joyce Eileen Chiesa, 58, of Coxsackie, died Sunday morning, May 6, 2001, at the Community Hospice at St. Peter’s Hospital.
Born Sept. 5, 1942, in Catskill, she was the daughter of Leonard L. Zimmer and Gertrude T. (Ward) Zimmer.
A lifelong area resident, Mrs. Chiesa was a graduate of Coxsackie-Athens Central High School, Class of 1960. She was a secretary at the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance in the audit department.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church, the Women’s Guild and the Gold Wing Riders Association, Chapter I.
She was married on Aug. 7, 1983, at the First Reformed Church of West Coxsackie to Paul Chiesa, who survives at home.
Besides her husband, survivors include five sons, Norman L. Mueller of Climax, Warren E. Mueller of Coxsackie, Paul R. Chiesa of Leeds, Michael J. Chiesa of Coxsackie and Kenneth A. Chiesa of Salem; a brother, Warren Zimmer of Coxsackie; seven grandchildren, Amie and Jenna Wilson and Paul M., Andrew, Nicholas, Jamie and Amanda Chiesa; and a nephew, Leonard Zimmer.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Sopris Funeral Home Inc., Route 9W, West Coxsackie.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Reformed Church of West Coxsackie.
Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery.

CAIRO – Martha Newcomb Rogers Mattice, 83, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at her home on Warren Stein Road.
Born Sept. 4, 1917, in Erith, Kent, United Kingdom, her parents, both American citizens, were Charles E. Rogers and Marie Louise Newcomb Rogers of Broome County, N.Y.
Mrs. Mattice was a graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences, Cornell University, Ithaca, and the State Teachers College at New Paltz.
For many years she was an art teacher for the Cairo-Durham Central School District. She was active in the Greene County Council of the Arts and was an artist and designer throughout her life.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Paul Mattice; a daughter Pamela Thompson of Minnesota; a son, Michael Mattice of California and three Granddaughters, Laura Whitney, Catherine Michael and Alexandra Rogers.
There will be no memorial services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greene County Council on the Arts Inc., 344 Main St., Catskill, N.Y. 12414.

COEYMANS – Maureen (Mo) C. Patterson, 59, died Saturday, May 5, 2001 at the Hospice at St. Peter’s Hospital.
She was born in Catskill and had lived in Coeymans for the last 30 years.
She worked at the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles in Albany.
Survivors include six children, Michael Palmer of Ravena, Brian Palmer of Georgia, Steven Palmer of Ravena, Suzanne Ingraham of Florida, Sherri Freitas of Coeymans and Benjamin Freitas of Selkirk; a brother, Patrick Patterson of Leeds; a sister, Delores Goodwin of Florida; and five grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son Kevin D. Palmer.
All services were private at the convenience of the family.

GREENVILLE – Bruce Blakeslee Sr., 76, of Norton Hill, formerly of Freehold, died suddenly at his home on May 4, 2001.
Mr. Blakeslee was born in Windham on Feb. 21, 1925, son of the late Clarence Blakeslee and Anna (Powers) Blakeslee.
He was retired from the New York State Department of Transportation, having worked out of the Coxsackie branch.
Mr. Blakeslee was a former member of the Freehold Volunteer Fire Company, was a long-time member of the Rip Van Winkle Bowling League and was an avid Bingo player.
Survivors include his wife, Joan (Rockenstire) Blakeslee of Freehold; three daughters, Bonnie Quackenbush of Freehold, Judy Moran of Greenville and Cindy Mead of Louisburg, KY; two sons, Bruce Blakelee Jr. of Freehold and Brian Blakeslee of East Durham; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia Teller of Norton Hill and Doris Hempstead of Freehold; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and interment will be Thursday 1 p.m. at the Freehold Cemetery in Freehold. There will be no calling hours.

GREENVILLE – Dora Clickman, 86, of Westerlo, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at the home of her daughter in Soddy Daisy, Tenn.
Born June 3, 1914, in Westerlo, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Fancher and Edna (Goodfellow) Fancher.
She was a lifelong homemaker and helped her late husband Fred run the family farm.
Survivors include a son, Walter Clickman of Westerlo; two daughters, Mary Conde of Westerlo and Virginia Johnson of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mabel Coffey of Slingerlands.
Mrs. Clickman was predeceased by her husband on April 4, 2001.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.

IRON STATION – Lewis W. Crooks, 81, of Rickard Lane, Iron Station, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Cardinal Care of Lincolnton.
Mr. Crooks was born June 19, 1919, in Bristol Center to the late William Burt Crooks and Gertrude Brandow Crooks.
He was retired from Westinghouse and was a member of St. Dorothy’s Catholic Church, a longtime member of Bath Country Club and a past exalted ruler of the Elks Club of Bath.
He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Crooks.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Crooks; two daughters, Betty Blood of Geneva and Nancy Richard of Iron Station; two sons, James Crooks and William “Billy” Crooks, both of Tampa, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

WINDHAM – Margaret M. Dickopf, 88, of Guilderland and formerly of Windham, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Albany Medical Center.
Born Nov. 19, 1912, in Windham, she was the daughter of the late Claude C. Malbury and the late Daisy (Osborn) Mulbury.
Mrs. Dickopf was a librarian for the Windham Public Library for more than 40 years and was a graduate of the Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School District.
She was also a member of Mountain Oasis Chapter of the Eastern Star Lodge No. 237.
Survivors include a brother, Dr. Edwin Mulbury of Windham; two sons, Frederick Dickopf of Guilderland and Craig Dickopf of Haverill, Mass.; a daughter Marsha Sherman of Portsmouth, N.H.; and six grandchildren.
Mrs. Dickopf was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Dickopf, who died on Sept. 12, 1992.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main St., Windham.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Bishop Kevin Schlinder of the Church of Latter-Day Saints officiating.

CATSKILL – Charles M. Lennon, 61, a retired meat department manager for Grand Union, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at 1342 Rudolph Weir Jr. Road in Earlton after a short illness.
Mr. Lennon lived in Earlton for seven years and was previously from Leeds. He was born May 20, 1939, in Catskill, son of Harry Lennon and Louise (Steele) Lennon.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960, attaining the rank of SP5 (E-5) (T). He was a 10-year member of Leeds Hose Co. No. 1, and was a past vice-president and president from 1983 to 1984. He was an eight-year member of Catskill Elks Lodge No. 1341. He enjoyed hunting and camping, especially in the Adirondacks at Lewey Lake.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret M. Lennon; three daughters, Kelly Ann Marafioti of Earlton, Eileen Mary Castle of South Cairo and Colleen Mary VerPlanck of Natick, Mass.; four sons, Kevin Charles Lennon of Palenville. Timothy Patrick Lennon and Thomas Patrick Lennon, both of Earlton, and Lawrence Joseph Lennon of Covington, Ga.; two sisters, Mary Bedard and Marilyn (Kohler) Nash of Watervliet; 16 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father Harry Lennon; his mother, Louise (Steele) Lennon; and a brother, Donald Lennon.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. Members of the Elks Lodge will conduct fraternal services at 7 p.m. and member of Leeds Hose Co. will hold services at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

GREENVILLE – Charles “Bud” Moon, 77, of Preston Hollow, died at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson on May 5, 2001.
He was born in Queens on Nov. 21, 1923, son of the late Fred Moon and Ethel (Bosten) Moon.
He was educated in the Brooklyn, Queens school system.
Mr. Moon was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe with the 372nd Engineer General Service Regiment.
When he returned home after the war he worked for Con Edison and then for the New York Telephone Co., retiring after 32 years of service.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 0248 in Middleburgh, the Telephone Pioneers, and the AARP.
Survivors include two sisters, May Anderson of New Jersey and Ethel Moon of Chicago, a brother, Edward Moon of North Merrick, his nieces and nephews Joanne, Fran, Ellie, Linda, Jane, Frank, Scott, Barry and Edward; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Friends may call at the Towers Funeral Home, 2681 Long Beach Road, Oceanside, N.Y., on Thursday evening.
Interment will be at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, N.Y. on Friday.

MIDDLEBURGH – Virginia M. Young, 71, of Cliffside Apartments, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Bassett Hospital in Cobleskill, Schoharie County.
Born Feb. 1, 1930, in Burlington, VT, she was the daughter of Eugene Champagne and Elizabeth Gifford Champagne.
From 1991 until 2000 she was the owner of Valley Video Store in Middleburgh. Previous to that she had been a quality control inspector at the American Thermostat Co. in South Cairo for 15 years.
She married Raymond A. Young Sr. on Dec. 26, 1961.
She was a former member of the Livingstonville Community Church and the Town of Broome Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond A. Young Jr. of South Cairo and James A. Young of Middleburgh; two sisters, Ethel Shepard of Plattsburgh and Patricia Figart of Plattsburgh,; a brother, Eugene Champagne of McLean, VA, and five grandchildren.

He was a 21-year member of Catskill Elks Lodge No. 1341 and a 29-year lifetime member of the Elks. He enjoyed hunting and camping, especially in the Adirondacks at Lewey Lake.

GREENVILLE – Wilbur B. VanSchaack, 95, formerly of Coxsackie, died April 22, 2001, at his Bradenton, Fla. Home.
He was born in Coxsackie and came to Florida in 1969. He was a former justice in Coxsackie, a member of the Rotary Club and he owned the Wishy Washy Laundromat and an insurance office. He was also an agent for Strout Realty.
While in Florida he invented the Ruvan Lane Guide and owned a motel in Palmetto, Fla.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth VanSchaack; a daughter, Bessie E. Schilling of Lake Mary, Fla.; three stepchildren, five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Martino owned and operated Margie’s Beauty Shop in Catskill prior to her retirement.
She was a communicant at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Catskill, and a past-volunteer at the Greene County Memorial Hospital.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.

COXSACKIE – Gladys A. Seyler, 91, formerly of 200 Riverside Ave., Coxsackie, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at the Eddy Four Nursing Home in Cohoes.
Born July 2, 1909, in the Bronx, she was the daughter of the late James Spencer and Anna (Kemme) Spencer.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Coxsackie, a past member of the Felix Rebekah Lodge No. 59 of West Coxsackie and a member of the OES Kaksakee Chapter No. 873.
She was an avid gardener, bowler and golfer. For 20 years she spent time between Florida and Coxsackie. At age 86 she was still golfing and in her early years she golfed with many area groups.
Survivors include a son, William H. Seyler of Delmar; a daughter, Lois A. Cameron of Coxsackie; four grandchildren, Peter Cameron, Lianne Fenn, Cathleen Seyler and Douglas Seyler, and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Seyler was predeceased by her husband, William, who died in 1982.

Born March 16, 1958, in Brooklyn, he was the son of Rachel Delequilla of New York City and the late Louis Vitolo.
Mr. Vitolo was employed as a elevator mechanic for the Millar Elevator Co. of Albany.
He also enjoyed fishing and playing baseball with his sons.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Karen L. (Hoefer) Vitolo, three children, Nicole, Jacalyn, and Matthew, all of Coxsackie; two brothers, Tullio Delequilla and Lance Vitolo; a sister Athena Lynam; and several aunts, uncles and nieces, all of New York City.

Mr. Coe served in the armed forces from 1947 to 1950. He was a carpenter by trade and retired 20 years ago. He was a member of the James F. Carty DSC Post No. 1545 of Windham and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his former wife, Kathleen Balthazar Pimentel of Catskill; four daughters, Elisa Vega of Chatham and formerly of Catskill; Teresa of Manhattan, Maria Jason of Massachusetts and Joanna Vega Mercader of Spain; a son, Michael of Massachusetts; and a stepson Marcus Gregio of Catskill.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held in the chapel of the Funeraria Tanatorio de Cordoba. Following cremation, a Mass was also held at San Patricia’s Church, before his ashes were sprinkled over the Mediterranean at Malaga, Spain.

Born Nov. 17, 1918 in Oneida, he was the son of Ethel Mortice Jones and Anson R. Jones.
A long-time resident of Catskill, Mr. Jones owned and operated A.R. Jones and Sons, now Agway, a 95 West Bridge St., a business he began with his father in 1946.
Active in the community, Mr. Jones served as president of the Catskill Board of Education, Greene County BOICES, Greene County Cooperative Extension Service and the Capital District Feed and Fertilizer Dealers.
He was a director of the Commercial Mutual Insurance Co. Catskill Rural Cemetery and a member and former deacon of the First Reformed Church of Catskill.
He was a member of the Rip Van Winkle Club, the Elks Club and charter member of the Catskill Lions Club.
A veteran of World War II, Jones was in the 635th Field Artillery in the European Theater of Operations and was awarded the French Croix de Guerre for outstanding service.

CAIRO – Siegfried K. Hartmann, 84, of South Street, Windham, died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Columbia Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Born July 21, 1916, in Germany, he was the son of the late Ott-Karl Hartmann and Klara (Jurgens) Hartmann.
Mr. Hartmann was a pastry chef and served his apprenticeship in Germany prior to coming to the United States.
He was the founder of the famous Hartmann’s Kaffeehaus in Round Top, operating it since 1958 and retiring in 1980.
Mr. Hartmann was a pastor member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church and loved gardening, nature and travel. He had a deep interest in the stock market.
He migrated from Seabrook, Md. to Greene County in 1958.
Survivors include a son, Karl O. Hartmann of Sherborn, Mass.; a brother, Horst D. Hartmann of Seabrook, Md., and a niece, Sabine B. Hartmann of Loyal, Wis.

WINDHAM – Violet Waterman, 80, of Ashland, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at her residence.
Born March 22, 1921, in Ashland, she was the daughter of the late James Cleveland and the late Lena (Brink) Cleveland.
Mrs. Waterman was a homemaker who enjoyed church and family.
She was a charter member of the Grand Gorge Pilgrim Holiness Church and served faithfully in many offices and programs of the church.
Survivors include four sons, Norman Waterman of Windham, Carlton Waterman of Wade, N.C., Randell Waterman of Ashland and Bradley Waterman of Fox Hill, three daughters, Patricia Decker of Ashland, Wilma Cook of Preston Hollow and Marlene Wright of Roxbury; 20 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Waterman was predeceased by her husband, Manley Waterman, who died on Dec. 22, 1992; two sisters, Edith Newcomb and Myrtle Riegert; and two brothers, Donald Cleveland and Sidney Cleveland.
Calling hours will be at the Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main St. Windham, with viewing 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
Funeral services will take place 1 p.m. Tuesday, at the Grand Gorge Pilgrim Holiness Church, Grand Gorge, with the Rev. Larry Majors and the Rev. John Sherman officiating.
Friends and family are requested to meet at the church on Tuesday.
Interment will follow in the family plot at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Ashland.

CATSKILL – Virginia Elizabeth Fatzinger, 64, of Catskill, died Saturday, may 19, 2001, at Columbia Memorial Hospital’s Hospice Unit, where she had been a patient since May 17.
Born June 13, 1936, in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Carl Fatzinger and Mildred (Warren) Fatzinger.
She graduated from Catskill High School, attended Syracuse University and received a bachelor of arts degree from Russell Sage College, where she met her first husband.
She retired in March of 1994 after working for the Sate of New York for 30 years in the Department of Health and the Office of the State Comptroller.
She was an active member of the Catskill Garden Club, On-Ti-Ora Chapter of NASDAR and Catskill Rotary Club, earned the distinction of Master Gardener from Greene County Cooperative Extension Agency, and faithfully served on the Consistory of the First Reformed Church where she was a dedicated member.
She became the wife of Carmine Fudge in February of 2001.
Survivors include her husband Carmine Fudge of Catskill; and a brother, Carl W. Fatzinger of Lake City, Fla.
Mrs. Fatzinger was predeceased by her father, Carl P. Fatzinger on Jan 31, 1992, and her mother, Mildred Warren Fatzinger on Nov. 6, 1992.
Memorial services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Reformed Church of Catskill. Pastor John Bowen of the First Reformed Church will be officiating.
Interment will be held at the Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg, Pa., on another date.
Private cremation was held Monday at the Albany Rural Crematorium under the direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Height, Catskill.

Celebrated pastry chef
WINDHAM – Siegfried Karl Otto Hartmann, 84, of Windham, died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson following a brief illness.
Born July 21, 1916, in Berlinchen, Germany, he was the son of the late Otto Karl Hartmann and Klara (Juergens) Hartmann, who operated a timber, lumbering and trucking business.
Mr. Hartmann, was one of three children to survive the war and resettle briefly in western Germany before coming to the United States in the early 1950s. The family was sponsored into the United States by relative who had settled Wisconsin and Colorado in the 1800s.
Mr. Hartmann was known locally as a German and Viennese pastry chef.
He moved to Round Top from Seasbrook Acres, Md. in 1958. He founded Hartmann’s Kaffeehaus, an Austrian and German café in Round Top. After operating the café from 1958 to 1981, Mr. Hartmann retired and lived in Windham.
In retirement, Mr. Hartmann pursued a passion for travel, exploring Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica, Southeast Asia, Europe and the western United States. He also enjoyed the nature and beauty of the Catskills and busied himself with investing and studying the economy until he became ill.
Survivors include a brother, Horst D. Hartmann of Seabrook, Md.; a son, Karl Otto Hartmann of Sherborn, Mass; and a niece, Sabine B. Hartmann of Loyal, Wis.
In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Hartmann’s remains are being cremated and will be distributed over Blackhead and Cave mountains. Plans for a memorial service or event will be announced at a later date.

WINDHAM – Eugene Drossel of Tannersville died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born in Sheboxgaw, Wis., he was the son of the late William Drossel and the late Helen (DuBois) Drossel.
Mr. Drossel moved from Lake Grove to East Jewett and Tannersville 21 years ago. He married Myra Musson in 1951 and the couple would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952, receiving an honorable discharge with the rank of corporal.
Until his retirement, he was employed for 30 years as a foreman with the Suffolk County Department of Public Works.
Mr. Drossel was a member of the East Jewett United Methodist Church and served as a former trustee of the church. He was active in the community and church and was always willing to help others. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also had a special interest in woodworking and shared many of his projects with church and family members.
Survivors include his wife, Myra Drossel of Tannersville; tow sons, Gregory Drossel of Ridge and Kevin Drossel of Medusa; two daughters, Gale Pitti of East Jewett and Loretta Diotte of S.E. Palm Bay, Fla., a brother, William Drossel of Hendersonville, N.C., 10 grandchildren, Shannon Drossel and Kelly Drossel of Ridge, Edward Pitti and Joseph Pitti of East Jewett, Connor Drossel and Brian Drossel of Medusa, Matthew Diotte, Justin Diotte, Michael Diotte and Anthony Diotte of S.E. Palm Bay, Fla., and Paul Drossel of Tannersville.
He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Gary Drossel; a brother, George Schoen; and a sister, Isabelle Schoen Crace.

HUNTER – Wladyslaw Anton Walczak-Wajciak, 55 of East Jewett, died May 22, 2001, at his residence.
He was born May 11, 1946 to Jan and Agnieszka Walczak-Wajciak in Poland. He was a carpenter and master craftsman. He was employed at Twilight Park in Haines Falls and had many hobbies.
Survivors include his wife Nina Brodose Walczak-Wajciak of East Jewett; two daughters, Agnieszka Cislak-Zywiec and Zuzanna Sobezak-Zywiec of Poland, a brother, Jan Walezak-Wajciak of Poland, two sisters, Celina Ward of Jersey City, N.J. and Krystine Walczak-Wajciak; his former wife, Jadwiga Walczak-Wajciak of Poland; three grandchildren, Filip Cislak, Sonia Sobezak and Sabinka Sobezak; and four nephews.

CHARLES D. COOK
Former state senator
DELHI – Former state Sen. Charles D. Cook of Delhi died May 23, 2001, in Delhi.
Born Feb. 26, 1935 in Deposit, he was the son of Edward Cook and Lillian Hicks Cook. He attended the one-room school in Rock Royal. In 1952 he graduated from Hancock Central School and in 1956 graduated from Hartwick College in Oneonta.
In 1957 Mr. Cook married Dorothy Behrens, a kindergarten teacher in Walton. They were married in Oneonta.
Mr. Cook was editor of The Bainbridge News for a year before entering the U.S. Army. After his tour of duty he was editor of The Deposit Courier until 1965.
In 1965 Mr. Cook was selected Delaware County Treasurer. He and his family then moved to Delhi.
Mr. Cook became a Delaware County Social Services Commissioner in 1971 and in 1972 was elected to the New York State Assembly. In 1978 he was elected to the New York State Senate where he served for 20 years, retiring at the end of 1998.
Sen. Cook served on many committees, chairing committees on education, local government, transportation and agriculture. He was the first chairman of the Legislative Commission on Rural Resources, which become known nationally for its innovative programs to address the needs of rural residents. He also served as secretary of the Legislative Commission on Critical Transportation Choices, the Council on Health Care Financing and the National Advisory Committee on Rural Health (as a Presidential appointee).
As chairman of the Senate Education Committee, he was the original author of what ultimately became the STAR program for relief of school property taxes.
During the confrontation with New York City over the watershed regulations, he organized meetings and hearings throughout the district, which led to the formation of the Coalition of Watershed Towns and obtained state funding to support the coalition in their court battles with the city. His leadership brought the city to the table and resulted in the historic four-way agreement.
As chairman of the Rural Resources Commission, he authorized the legislation which established the state Office of Rural Health. He founded the program of state grants to assist rural health care providers in extending and maintaining services in rural communities. He was instrumental in maintaining a $1 million annual budgetary appropriation to support rural hospitals in diversifying and expanding outpatient services, a program which is still in operation. After retirement he continued to serve as a member of the state Rural Health Council and the state Partnership Trust.
Sen. Cook authored the original “early intervention” legislation which provides for early identification, diagnosis and treatment of developmental disabilities in children.
Sen. Cook served as a trustee at Hartwick College and as a member of the Government Law Center Advisory Board at Albany Law School of Union College. He received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Hartwick College in 1989.
Since retirement, Cook became a trustee of O’Connor Hospital and chaired its Annual Fund financial effort. He was also a member of Friends of Bassett Hospital. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of Koinonia, the campus of ministry in Oneonta, and is an honorary director of Delaware Otsego Planned Parenthood. He was also a part-time adjunct lecturer, teaching state government courses at SUNY New Paltz and Hartwick College, and U.S. History at Delhi College.
Most recently, Sen. Cook served the congregation of the United Ministry as a lay speaker, pastoral care provider and true spiritual leader.
Survivors include his wife Dottie of Delhi, who was the co-founder and long-time teacher of Delhi Christian Playschool; a daughter, Linda and husband Michael Fillius of Dale City, Va.; a son, John and his wife Valerie of Springfield, Va., a son Jeffrey of San Francisco; two sisters, Ethel Damonkos of Fairfield, Conn., and Mary Kelsey of Manhein, Pa.; a brother, Edward (and Blanche) Cook of Walton; three grandchildren, Benjamin Fillius, Jessica Sinkovits and Sarah Cook of Virginia; and two stepsisters, Audrey Dabulewicz of Otsego and Helen Zandt of Walton.
It was Sen. Cook’s wish to have his body donated to Albany Medical Center for organ donation and medical research.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at the United Ministry Church in Delhi. A reception will follow at “Alumni Hall at SUNY Delhi.

GREENVILLE – Joseph Ingoglia Sr., 78, of Greenville, formerly of Plainview, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at the Samuel Stratton Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Albany.
Born June 14, 1922, in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Frank Ingoglia and Theresa Ingoglia.
He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945.
Mr. Ingoglia was employed by King Kullen in Hicksville as a butcher until his retirement.
He was a former member of the Greenville American Legion Post No. 291, Catskill VFW Post No. 770 and the DAV.
Survivors include his daughter, Bonnie Schepp of Greenville; four grandchildren, Lacie Schepp, Terese and Jennifer Ingoglia, and Tracy Vitetta; a sister, Fara Barbara of Syosset; a brother, Charles Ingoglia of Toms River, N.J.,; and several nieces and nephews.

CATSKILL – Elizabeth “Betty” Boice, 97, of Catskill died Monday, May 28, 2001, at Columbia-Greene Medical Center’s Long Term Care Division, where she had been a resident since Feb. 10, 1998.
Born Dec. 20, 1903, in Catskill, she was the daughter of the late Paul Randall Morrison and Gertrude Florence Sullivan Morrison.
She graduated from Catskill High School, Class of 1922, and from Katharine Gibbs School in New York City in 1924.
Mrs. Boice started her career with the Catskill Daily Mail in 1918 and in 1939 began the column “About the Town and County with Betsy,” which ran until her retirement at age 86 in 1989 after 71 years at the newspaper.
She married the late Lester Hover Boice on May 19, 1934, who predeceased her on Jan. 22, 1969.
She founded the Fortnightly Club of Catskill on Oct. 19, 1932, with her two sisters, and 22 charter members, for civic service to the community. The organization continues to thrive 68 years later.
Mrs. Boice was named “Woman of the Week” on Jan. 18, 1997, by the Town & Country Business and Professional Women, which also bestowed upon her the “Local Hero Award.”
She was a faithful attendant of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Catskill, a member of the Atatekas and the Fortnightly Club of Catskill.
Survivors include a sister, Honor Moore Riley of Catskill and Florida; a nephew, Jeffrey Robert Moore of California; two nieces, Candace Elizabeth Moore of Arlington, Va., and Elizabeth J. Chewins of West Bloomfield, Minn.
Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Boice was predeceased by her sister, Gertrude Morrison Robinson, and a brother, John F. Morrison.

ATHENS – Joean Teresa Frisbee, 79, formerly of 87 North Franklin St., Athens, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at the home of her son, at 9 Washington Ave., Coxsackie, after a long illness.
Born April 11, 1922, in Jersey City, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Charles A. Mesow and Rose M. (Spiotta) Mesow.
Mrs. Frisbee graduated from Greenville High School, Class of 1939. On March 3, 1946, she married George H. Frisbee, who predeceased her in 1981.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, a past member of the Altar Rosary Society and a resident of Athens since 1946.
She enjoyed plays, concerts and sporting events, especially those in which her family member participated. She also enjoyed movies and traveling.
Mrs. Frisbee was employed at the Edward J. Arthur Elementary School in Athens from 1968 to 1998. She retired as a teacher’s assistant due to illness.
Survivors include two daughters, Joean Vente of Athens and Kathy King of Delmar; three sons, Lt. Col. Gerald Frisbee of Damden, Del., Joseph Frisbee of Coxsackie and Alan Frisbee of Athens; 17 grandchildren; and several cousins.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Frisbee was predeceased by her granddaughter, Cassandra Frisbee, in 1986.

He was born in Paterson, N.J. on Aug. 30, 1940, and was the son of the late Cornelius VanGenderen and Katajde (Brock) VanGenderen.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at 8 p.m. at the Richards Funeral Home, 383 Bross St., Cairo.
Pastor All Conover of the First Reformed Church of Coxsackie will officiate.
Private cremation took place at the Wiltwyck Crematory in Kingston.
Mr. VanGenderen was a resident of Freehold for 12 years, moving to Greene County from northern New Jersey.
Prior to his illness, Mr. VanGenderen was a bricklayer mason for Local No. 2 of Albany. He loved cooking, gardening, hunting, fishing and entertaining his friends.
Survivors include his wife of 18 ½ years, Norma C. (Spoor) VanGenderen of Freehold; a son, Chas. VanGenderen of Helena, Mont.; a daughter, Chris VanGenderen of Westport, Conn.; a stepson, George Gasparin of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two sisters, Carol (Santora) VanGenderen of Nutley, N.J., and Susan Douglas of Middleburgh; and two grandchildren, Kate and Emily VanGenderen.

WINDHAM – Alda M. Blanden, 79, of Windham, died Monday, May 28, 2001, at Albany Medical Center.
Mrs. Blanden was born on April 8, 1922, in Windham, to Leroy Miller and Hilda (Osborne) Miller.
She was a member of the first class to graduate from the Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School main building in 1938, and retired as a teacher from the school.
She was a lifelong member of the Windham United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Mt. Oasis Chapter of the Eastern Star Lodge No. 237.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Arthur Blanden, who she married in 1945; a son Martin Douglas Blanden of Ashland; two daughters, Sandra Lee Sasso of Coleman, Ala., and Linda Ann Naumowicz of Scotia; a sister, Clara J. Harris of Tappen; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Windham United Methodist Church, Main Street, Windham, with the Rev. Irene Pough officiating. An Eastern Star service will be held at the church at 10:30 a.m., prior to the funeral service.

Born in New York City, she lived in Ravena and New Baltimore before moving to Bethany Village in West Coxsackie.
She was a charter member of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club in New Baltimore. She was also a member of the New Baltimore Reformed Church.
Survivors include a son, James Polverelli of New Baltimore; three grandchildren, Bryan Polverelli of Delmar, Gayle Betke of Coxsackie and Kathy Bushman of Ballston Spa; a sister, Dorothy Karp of Glenmont; a brother, William Pickert of Florida; and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Polverelli was predeceased by a grandson, Todd Polverelli.

GREENVILLE – Milton J. Dedie, 82, of Greenville, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
Born Oct 8, 1918, in Palmyra, he was the son of the late John Bremus and Wilhelmina (Dedie) Bremus.
Mr. Dedie served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945, being discharged as a Tech Sgt. He was an electronics engineer for IBM in Kingston, retiring in 1981 after 26 years of service.
He was an avid gardener and a former Boy Scout committeeman. He was active in the Greenville-Norton Hill United Methodist Church and was a former Lay Leader.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie (Winans) Dedie; two sons, Robert S. Dedie of Cobleskill and Richard E. Dedie of Greenville; a daughter, Carolyn Pantileris of Greenville; five grandchildren, Alyssa and Taso Pantileris, and Jennifer, John and Matthew Dedie; and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Dedie was predeceased by a grandson, Adam Scott Dedie.
