Kenneth P. Elsasser
Highway worker
Westerlo—Kenneth P. Elsasser, 64, of Westerlo, passed away Feb. 26, 2003, at the Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center, in Albany.
He was born in Brooklyn on Aug. 12, 1938, son of the late Martin Elsasser and the late Henrietta (Bolen) Snyder.
Mrs. Elsasser served his country during the Vietnam Era in the U. S. Army. He was employed by the Albany County Highway Department (Westerlo Division) until his retirement.
Mr. Elsasser was an active member of the Greenville American Legion Post #291 and the V. F. W. Tri-town Memorial Post #7229.
His is survived by his wife Cathy (Michalski) Elsasser, of Coxsackie; two daughters, Sharon Lowe of Texas, and Debbie Goff of Oak Hill; a brother Martin Elsasser of Florida; and dear friends Robert and Nancy O’Niell of Greenville. He is also survived by four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 8:30 p.m., Monday, March 3, at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81, Greenville. Friends may call the day of the service from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Members of the American Legion Post 291 will conduct a service at 7 p.m. and V. F. W. Tri-Town Post #7229 at 7:30 p.m.
Following cremation, there will be a Spring interment at the Hannacroix Rural Cemetery.

Gerard Shea
World War III veteran
Catskill—Gerard Shea, 80, of 27 James Place in Catskill died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
He was born May 31, 1922 in the Bronx, the son of the late John and Helen (Parker) Shea.
Mr. Shea served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific and Atlantic Theaters of Operations, and received the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, and Service Medals.
Mr. Shea served as a Trooper and Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Investigator for 20 years for the New York State Police, retiring in 1969, and from the Internal Revenue Service in 1986. He was a communicant at St. Patrick’s R. C. Church in Catskill.
Mr. Shea is survived by his wife Mrs. Sophie (Annese) Shea of Catskill; sons, Geoffrey Shea and his wife Rebecca of Greenport and David Shea and wife Cyndi of Watertown, CT.; sister Joan Ventimiglia of Chappaqua, NY; and grandchildren Sarah, Philip and Michael Shea.
There are no calling hours. Private cremation was performed at Park View Cemetery in Schenectady.
A memorial mass of Christian Burial will be celebrant at 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 3, at St. Patrick’s R. C. Church on Bridge Street in Catskill. The Rev. John Frisoli OFM will officiate. Spring interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Community Hospice of Columbia-Greene, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill, NY 12414.

Eleanor M. Van Zandt
Seamstress
Coxsackie—Eleanor M. Van Zandt, 79, of 108 Mansion Street in Coxsackie, died Feb. 26, 2003 after a short stay at Greene Long Term Health Care in Catskill.
She was born in New Baltimore on Sept. 29, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Couser.
Prior to her retirement, she was a seamstress. She had been a lifetime area resident and loved to crochet.
She is survived by her son, Richard Van Zandt, Jr., of Coxsackie; daughter-in-law, Barbara Van Zandt of Ravena; grandchildren, Brian Van Zandt, and Deana and Blake Peters; as well as cousins Kenneth and Jeffrey Wood.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at W. C. Brady’s Sons Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street in Coxsackie, Monday, March 3, 2003 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Private cremation will take place at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands on Tuesday March 4.

Eric J. Pruiksma
Former Coxsackie resident
Coxsackie—Eric James Pruiksma, 43, died on Feb. 27, 2003 in Flint, Michigan after a long illness.
He was born in Rochester on Feb. 13, 1960, the son of the Rev. Richard and June Pruiksma.
He was a 1979 graduate of Coxsackie-Athens High School. While in high school he attended to BOCES Food Service Program. He was active in the Drama Club and was employed at New Baltimore Thruway filling station. Later he lived in Albany and then in Poughkeepsie where he worked at Vassar Hospital in the Food Service Department. After moving to Michigan, where he lived for many years, he worked in food services, merchandising and landscaping.
Eric is survived by his parents; brothers Bruce Pruiksma of Athens, Brian and David Pruiksma of Coxsackie, and Brent Pruiksma of Preston Hollow; sisters Brenda Frego of Schertz, TX; Janice Masse of Athens; Julie Pruiksma of Albany, and April Pruiksma of Coxsackie. He also leaves behind 25 nieces and nephews and great-niece, as well as many friends in Michigan and Coxsackie.
In 1999, another sister Alicia Pruiksma Frank, predeceased Eric after a long illness.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Second Reformed Church in Coxsackie, at which Eric was a member, on Friday, March 7, 2003 at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. Pruiksma presiding.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Brady Funeral Home in Coxsackie. There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.

Herbert Williams
World War II Paratrooper
Hannacroix—Herbert Williams, 82, of Hannacroix died Friday, Jan. 28, 2003 at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill.
He was born in New Baltimore, the son of the late Luke and Grace Williams.
Herbert was a Army veteran serving as a paratrooper in Germany during World War II. He was a member of the Coxsackie American Legion.
Survivors include his children, Henrietta Daoust of Castleton, Herbert Jr. of Coeymans Hollow, Eugene of Rensselaer, and David of Florida; brother Francis of West Coxsackie; sister Ethel Van Wormer of New Baltimore; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brother David and sister Marian Seeberger.
All services are private at the convenience of the family, under the direction of the Babcock Funeral Home in Ravena.

Greenville—Vivian Moore, 88, of Palenville, formerly of Greenville, died Sunday, March 2, 2003 at her residence.
Born in Manhattan on Dec. 15, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Waters) Calapa.
Mrs. Moore was the owner, with her husband Russell Baumann, of Baumann’s Brookside Resort in Greenville.
She was an avid dancer and enjoyed traveling.
Mrs. Moore was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville.
Survivors include her husband Edward Moore of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Carol Schreiber and her husband Richard of Greenville; three grandchildren. Lt. Col. Richard Schreiber and his wife Lynn of Woodbridge, Va., Rosemary Lewis and her husband Kevin of Greenville and Courtney Reinhard and her husband Jason of Syracuse; four great-grandchildren, Emily and Pierce Schreiber and Tucker and Russell Lewis; and a sister Josephine Galgano of Corgam, N. Y.
Mrs. Moore was predeceased by her husbands Joseph Callahan and Russell Baumann.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6, at the
funeral home.
Spring interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 19, 1919 in Roxbury, the daughter of the later Frank and Dora (Sharpe) Lutz.
Mrs. Jordan was an employee at the Red Carpet Inn in Stamford prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Reformed Dutch Church of Prattsville and latter attended the Cairo United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Jordan was predeceased by her husband Chester Jordan in 1980; daughter Jan Jordan in June 2000; and brother Leon Lutz.
Mrs. Jordan is survived by sons Terry Jordan and his wife Debbie of Latham, and Fred Jordan and his wife Cindy of Ravena; sister Zada all of Stamford; sister-in-law Miriam Lutz of Stamford; grand children Anne Jordan, Andrew Jordan and Elizabeth Jordan, all of Latham.
Relatives and friends may call at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights in Catskill on Friday, March 7, 2003 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Cairo United Methodist Church. The Rev. Retta Lykens, pastor, will officiate. Spring interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Prattsville.

Frank Linders
World War II veteran
Hudson—Frank Linders, 81, of Jefferson Heights in Catskill, died Monday, March 3, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born July 5, 1921 in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Arthur and Jessie (Livingston) Linders.
Mr. Linders served as a corporal in the United States Army Air Force during World War II in Squadron F, 127th Base Unit. He earned the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal.
He was employed as a carpenter at the Central Islip State Hospital.
Mr. Linder was a member of the American Legion Post No. 1039 in Central Islip.
Surviving are his sons, Warren Linders of Shirley, Suffolk County, and Richard Linders of Spring, Texas; grandsons, Daniel Linders of Shirley and George Linders of Spring, Texas; granddaughter Danielle Linders of Spring, Texas; brother Alfred Linders of Upland, Calif.; sister Dorothy Hance of Port Richey, Fla; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Lawrence Linder.

Cairo—David C. Ross, 17, of Saugerties and Cairo, died suddenly March 6, 2003 at his residence.
He was born in Catskill, the son of Dennis C Ross of Saugerties and Roberta L. (Patterson) Hopper of South Cairo.
David was employed at the Stairway Café in Saugerties at the time of his death. He loved snowboarding, skiing, nature, fishing and the outdoors.
Besides his parents, he is survived by brother Gary Hopper of South Cairo; sisters Jessica Ross of Conesville, Angeline Ross of Cairo, and Rose Hopper of South Cairo; parental grandmother Elsbeth Ross; and maternal grandparents Lyle and Arline Patterson.
Funeral services will take place Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at the Richards Funeral Home, 383 Bross St., in Cairo, with the Rev. Retta Lykens, Pastor of the United Methodist Church of Cairo, officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited go call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Interment will follow in the family plot of the Catskill Rural Cemetery.

Gladys MacDonald
Grandmother
East Windham—Gladys Olive (Birmingham) MacDonald, 86, of East Windham died at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
She was born at Rockaway Beach, Queens, Long Island, on April 8, 1916, the only child of the late John T. and Isabel Birmington.
She was a retired homemaker, telephone operator and real estate broker.
Mrs. MacDonald was a graduate of Far Rockaway High School. She studied history of topics of interest to her, particularly the history of ancient Egypt throughout her life and enjoyed the seashore.
She was predeceased by her husband, Maj. Thomas MacDonald Jr., a civil engineer on Oct. 7, 2001. They married on April 27, 1940. After his U. S. Army Corps of Engineers service in World War II, they moved to East Windham.
She later worked as a telephone operator for the New York Telephone Company in Windham. She worked as a real estate broker. She founded her own business, Summit View Reality in East Windham, which she operated successfully for many years, making friendly associations in the process.
Mrs. MacDonald was a member of the Lamplighter’s Club of Windham. Her other interests include antique furniture, traveling, reading, swimming, walking, skiing, and entertaining with her family and friends. She also enjoyed the panoramic five state view form the challenging microclimate of East Windham.
Survivors include her five sons, Thomas MacDonald III and wife Arlene of Acra, Ian and his wife Yoonie of Woodbridge, Va., David of Johnsonville, Brian and wife Karyn of East Windham, and James of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She had six grandchildren including Thomas Edward and wife Barbara of Huntington, L. I., Bradley of Windham, April and Craig of Woodbridge, Va., Danielle of Valley Falls, and Shannon of East Windham. She also had three great-grandchildren, the twins Amanda Jean and Tyler Thomas MacDonald of Huntington, L. I.; and Katelynn MacDonald of Woodbridge, Va.
In the spring, a graveside service will be held in the Cornwallville cemetery under the direction of the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, Catskill.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial donations may be made to the Columbia-Green Humane Society, Salvation Army, American Cancer Society, the American Museum of Natural History of the local school district for a worthy educational purpose.

Oak Hill—Everett C. Matthews, 89, of Oak Hill, died at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson on Saturday, March 8, 2003.
He was born in Norton Hill on Sept. 6, 1913, son of the late Archibald and Sadie (Cameron) Matthews.
Mr. Matthews had been employed by the Operating Engineers Local 106 in Albany and retired in 1978.
He was a member of and president of the Mt. Nebo Hunting Club, the Potter Hollow Grange and was a charter member and 50 year member of the Oak Hill-Durham Vol. Fire Co.
Mr. Matthews enjoyed his family, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl Hulbert and her husband Bernard; a son, Craig Matthews and his wife Linda; his grandchildren, Donovan Hulbert, Aaron Matthews and his wife Christine, Heather Champlin and her husband Brian, Fawn Hallenback and her husband Chad; his great grand children, Lauren, Katie and Haley Matthews, Briana and Christopher Champlin, Jacob, Matthew, Meghan and Mikaela Hallenback; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Matthews was predeceased by his wife Natalie (Hull) Matthews, two sisters and three brothers.
Calling hours will be 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, from the Cunningham Funeral home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.
Funeral services will be 11 a. m. Wednesday, from the funeral home.

Maplecrest—Irene Rickard, 93, of Maplecrest, died Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home in Stamford.
Mrs. Rickard was born Dec. 15, 1909 to William and Rose Anna (Benoit) Forget in Springfield, Mass.
She was a resident of Maplecrest, living in her house for over 50 years.
Mrs. Rickard was the hostess at the Osborn House in Hensonville for over 30 years.
Survivors include a sister, Alice Marcoux of North Adams, Mass, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Winfred L. Rickard on Dec. 3, 1997.
A grave side service will be conducted in the spring at the Maplecrest Cemetery, Maplecrest.

Kingston—Mildred Ione Johnston, 81, of Flatbush Road, Kingston, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Kingston Hospital.
Born April 24, 1921, in Monroe, La., she was the daughter of the later Percy and Kate Prichard Guinn.
With her family, they had owned and operated the Hilltop Motel in South Cairo.
She was an active member of the Greene County Resort Association, and an active member of the Cairo Methodist Church.
After retirement, she moved to Venice, Fla., and had been a deacon in the Venice Presbyterian Church and active volunteer at Bon Secour Venice Hospital.
Survivors include her second husband and dear friend Theodore Johnston; two sons, Harry Seymour and Dale Johnston; on daughter, Kristine Glass; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Johnston was predeceased by her first husband, Hartley Seymour.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. at the Keyser & Hamilton Funeral Service, Albany and Manor Ave., Kingston.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. D. Dwayne Buddle, pastor of the Saugerties United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in the Montrepose Cemetery.

Catskill—Sylvia Rocha, 74, of Catskill, formerly of Germantown, died Sunday, March 9, 2003 at the Long Term Care Facility of Catskill, where she had been a resident since August 2001.
Born June 28, 1928 in Mount Vernon, she was the daughter of the late John and Rose (Trombetti) Lucketti.
She had been a homemaker and attended the Church of the Resurrection of Germantown. She was an avid musician and singer.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Anthony and Darlene Rocha of Hudson; four daughters, Deborah and her husband Dennis Teegarden and Deanna Rocha, all of Hudson, Gene Knauss, Teresa and her husband Richard Kreig all of Germantown, a brother, George Lucketti of Arizona, her friend of more than 50 years and god-father of all her children, Frank Pereira of Germantown; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Rocha was predeceased by her husband Anthony, who died April 29,2001, three sisters, Anna Cattinenni, Helen Lucketti-Scola and Florence Lucketti; two brothers, Matthew Lucketti and Anthony Lucketti; and a niece, Linda Perrone.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Germantown.
Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 13 from the funeral home, where the Rev. Joseph Finch will celebrate a Mass of Christian burial.
Interment will follow in the Reformed Church Cemetery of Germantown.

Vincent L. Viola
Former Cairo School District Employee
Greenville—Vincent L. Viola, died Saturday, March 8, 2003.
Born April 27, 1932, he was the son of the later Vincenzo and Concetta Meccariello Viola of White Plains.
Mr. Viola was a postal worker for many years in White Plains. A longtime resident of Cairo, he retired from the Cairo School District.
He would like to be remembered, after the sadness of his departure from our lives eases from our hearts a little, as a compassionate man and cat lover. He will be in many hearts as he tried to touch so many people’s lives with his kindness and humor.
Survivors include his first wife, Olga Viola of White Plains; and four daughters, Carol Meighan of New York, Roberta Sprague of Homewood, Ill., Lisa DeCicco of Rye Brook and Jennifer Braca of Mahopac; and 10 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his second wife Christina Rynne Viola.
At his request there will be no wake. A private family service will be held with interment in Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sacred Heart Church, Cairo. A memorial Mass will be held at his local parish for his beloved community members at a date to be announced.

Helen Reger Wagner
Served in Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps.
Leeds—Helen Reger Wagner, 81, of Forest Hill Avenue, Leeds, died Monday, March 10, 2003 at Albany Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 22, 1922 in Athens and was the daughter of the late Herbert H. and Margaret Scully Reger.
She attended Athens School and graduated form St. Edmund’s Academy in Brooklyn in 1940. She worked for Handy and Harmon in Brooklyn for 1942-43.
Mrs. Wagner enlisted in the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps on Sept. 1, 1943 and was an Army Recruitment “Poster Girl.”
She served seven months as a clerk typist and stenographer. She served 12 months as a recruiter stationed in Miami, where she interviewed and tested applicants, composed newspaper ads, designed window displays and did PR work for local clubs, and welfare agencies. She was promoted to tech sergeant Administrative Noncommissioned Officer, stationed in Finney, General Hospital, Thomasville, Ga. She supervised 13 men and women, typed military correspondence and interviewed applicant for dependency discharge.
She was honorably discharged on Jan. 13, 1946 through Fort Dix, N. J. She received the American Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal; WAAC Service Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal.
She met her future husband Fred Wagner while they were both part of the Athens Theatre Group. They were married Sept. 23, 1950. She worked for h. Milton Chatterton, Esq. Catskill, for several years before moving to Westerlo in 1972. She was a member of the Athens High School Alumni and enjoyed attending the annual dinner.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Fred Wagner; her son, Herbert and daughter-in-law Michelle and their children Lorelei, Susanna and Erica; her daughter Lorraine, and her children Kaitlyn and Kara, her daughter Marie and son-in-law David and their children Rebecca, Adam, and Kyle; her son Frederick and daughter-in-law Christine and their children Neil and Carolyn.
Mrs. Wagner is predeceased by her siblings, Col. Hamilton Reger, John (Jack) Reger, Josephine Russell, Jean P. Robbins, Edith R. Tannous and Grace Reger.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Richards Funeral Home, 28 North Vernon St., Athens.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Church, Catskill, with the Rev. John Murphy as the celebrant.
Interment will follow in the
family plot of the Old Athens Rural Cemetery, Athens.
The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of the Greene County Office of the Aging, the doctors, nurses and staff of Albany Medical Center and Good Samaritan Home.

Hudson—Thomas Bartholomew, 41, of Kings Road in West Coxsackie, died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at his residence.
Born Sept. 5, 1961 in Hudson, he was the son of Judy (Haner) Talarico of Elizaville and Donald Bartholomew of Daytona, Fla.
He was a graduate of Taconic Hills Central School and served in the U. S. Air Force.
He was executive vice-president of merchandising with the Fleming Corporation in Lewisville, Texas.
He loved his cats, ginseng and Jag.

Cairo—Samuel Nelson Chadderdon, 95, of Acra and Green Manor Nursing Home, Ghent, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at Green Manor Nursing Home.
A lifelong resident of Cairo, he was born on Railroad Avenue, Dec. 17, 1907. He was the son of the later Joseph Henry and Ida Mae (Pierson) Chadderdon.
As a boy Mr. Chadderdon helped out in his father’s general store and his mother’s restaurant located a the current His and Hers Shop on Main Street, Cairo. He spent much of his youth in Acra on the family farm. In 1931 he married Helen Hallermeier who predeceased him in 1963. In 1965 he married Hilda (Valestin) who predeceased him in 1996. He was also predeceased by two brothers, John and Joseph; three sisters, Helen, Margaret and Harriet; and nephews, Henry McManus and Vernon and Wallace Chadderdon.
During World War II Mr. Chadderdon worked an s a floor manager of Western Electric in Kearny, N.J., being awarded a diamond medal for production of communication equipment. In 1945 he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage a week after President Roosevelt. He recovered at home in Acra for several years operating a saw mill and in later years he was employed by the Aerobilt Bodies Company of Athens, retiring in the 1960’s.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Nelson Chadderdon and daughter-in-law Dorothy E. Chadderdon; grandson, J. Nelson Chadderdon and wife Amy Rich; granddaughter, Laureen Helen and husband Dan Lapan; nieces, Jane Rothermel and Ruth Patrick; and good friend Robert Strong.
Funeral services will take place 3 p.m. Friday, March 14, at the Cavalry Episcopal Church on Main Street, Cairo, with the Rev. John Miller officiating.
Interment will take place in the springtime in the family plot of the Acra Cemetery.

Orange Park, Fla.—Lt. Col. John Joseph Garlan Jr., U.S. Army, retired, 83, born in Brooklyn, died Saturday, Feb. 22,2003, in Orange Park, Fla.
Mr. Garlan graduated form Columbia University where he was a student at the Russian Institute. He then served as a court reporter for the Wall Street law firm of Crevath, Swain and Moore and also worked for the New York City Planning Commission.
He later retired from the U. S. Army following 30 years of distinguished service, and served as a Security Officer for the CIA for 20 years in Washington, D. C. and Langley Va. He was also a captain of the 10th CID unit for the New York State and lower New Jersey. He served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the 101st Calvary, 34th and 134th Infantry Divisions and the Oxford University Society.
Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Lawrence and son-in-law Jay Lawrence; his sister, Catherine Durnin of New York, brother-in-law, James Patrick Durnin; seven nieces and nephews, James Durnin of North Carolina, Diane Doyle of East Durham, Pat Durnin of Brooklyn, Debbie Landau of Locust Valley, N. Y., Matthew Durin of Brooklyn, Tommy Durin of Hazlet, J. J., and Denise Horan of Brooklyn.
Mr. Garlan was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Mary Garlan.
Calling hours were conducted Wednesday, Feb.26 at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, Fla.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Feb. 27, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, 1649 Kingsley Ave., Orange Park.

Earlton—Dorothy R. Hartmann, 83, of Potic Mountain Road in Earlton, died March 11, 2003 at her residence after a long illness.
She was born in Brooklyn on May 14,1919, and was the daughter of the late Reynolds and Bella (Mann) Wetzel.
She had been an area resident since 1988, a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Catskill, and was married for 60 years. She was also an avid Bingo player.
She is survived by sons, Reynold Hartmann of Georgia and Charles (Chuck) Hartmann of Earlton; daughter Annabelle Cumberbatch of Queens; grandchildren Reynold Jr., Victor Jr., Charles, Henry and Michael; and great grandchild Kimberly.
She was predeceased by her husband Henry F. Hartmann on Jan. 14, 2000, and a son Henry Hartmann Jr.
Funeral services will take place Friday, March 14 at 10 a.m. at the W. C. Brady’s Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St. in Coxsackie with the Rev. John Murphy, pastor of St. Patrick’s Church, officiating.

Born in Cairo, May 28, 1929, he was the son of the late Savario (Sam) and Margaret (DiBenedetto) DiStefano.
Mr. DiStefano was a lifetime resident of Cairo and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church of Cairo. Prior to his death he was a butcher and was employed at DiStefano’s Meat Market in Cairo.
Survivors include his daughter Mrs. Paul (Margaret-Peggy) Stauble of Cobleskill; brother Paul and sister-in-law Mia DiStefano of Leeds; granddaughter Jennifer Anderson of Cobleskill; great-grandchildren Justin and Taylor Anderson; nephew Sherwood DiStefano of Albany; and niece Patricia Martinez of Leeds.
There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.

St. Petersburg, Fla.—Geraldine “Gerry” Rose McKenna, 73, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at her home under the care of Hospice of The Florida Suncoast.
Born in Bronx, she moved with her family to Coxsackie in 1941.
Mrs. McKenna was a graduate of Coxsackie High School and worked for many years as a legal secretary with the Albany law firm of Hesson, Ford, Sherwood & Whalen before her retirement. She and her husband Ed moved to St. Petersburg in 1984. She was an avid bowler and an accomplished artist, but her greatest pleasure was derived form her family.
Survivors include her husband Edward F. McKenna; mother, Aurora Rosa of Coxsackie; daughter, Mary McKenna Jackstadt (Kris) of Voorheesville; and grandchildren, Erikka and Christian Jackstadt; sisters, Nina Irwin (Bob) of Coxsackie, Jacqueline Payne (Phil) of Hudson, Judith Halstead (Bill) of Scotia; seven nieces and nephews; 11 grandnieces and grandnephews, all of whom will miss her greatly.
She was predeceased by her father, Nino Rosa, and her first husband, George “Dick” Gallagher.

Cairo—Elwilda N. Hoovler, 88, of 777 Main Street in Cairo, died on Friday, March 14, 2003 at the Adventist Nursing home in Livingston, New York, after a long illness.
She was born in Merrick, Long Island, on September 8, 1914, and was the daughter of the late Paul and Anna (Stampfl) Kotze.
She had been an area resident for over 40 years and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Cairo. She was an avid reader and gardener, and she also loved to crochet.
She is survived by two sons, Clements, J. Hoovler, Jr. of South Cairo, and Warren Hoovler of Nevada; a daughter Mrs. Albert (Arlene) Hoffman of Leeds; a brother Paul Kotze of Long Island; a sister, Lillian Layton of California; six grandchildren, Deborah, Lori, Lisa, Christopher, Eric, and Clint; and six great grandchildren.

Saugerties—Robert J. Wade Sr., 86, of Main Street, died Saturday, March 15,2003 at the Golden Hill Health Related Facility, Kingston, after a brief illness.
Born Nov. 6,1916 in West Springfield, Mass., he was the son of the late Edward J. and Mae Doyle Wade.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U. S. Army for nine years, where he was awarded the American Defense Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was an employee for over 20 years at the Victory Market in Saugerties when he was the Produce and Deli Manager.
Upon retirement he was employed as a chef in many local restaurants including the Ramada Inn of Kingston, the Sawyerkill and Lamp Lighter Restaurants in Saugerties. He was employed by the Village of Saugerties as a crossing guard on Main Street and Washington Avenue and the Cahill Elementary School.
His life included a lifelong dedication to the volunteer fire service in Saugerties and New York State. He was a 41-year member of the Saugerties Fire Department where he served as Chief of the Fire Department in 1977. He was a member of Washington Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1, the Saugerties Exempts Firemen’s Association and Saugerties Fire Department, Fire-Police Association, He was a member of the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association where he held the office of Sergeant of Arms. The New York State Firemen’s Association, the Ulster County, Greene County, Orange County, Sullivan County and Mohawk-Hudson County Volunteer Firemen’s Association.
He was a member of the Saugerties Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5034 and the DADs of Foreign War where he held the offices of Treasurer and President for many years. He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Holy Name Society. He was recently honored by the Saugerties Fire Department when he was named Grand Marshall of the 2002 Fourth of July Parade, an honor he cherished.
Survivors include his wife, the former Margaret “Peg” Healy, with whom he recently celebrated his 61st wedding anniversary; four daughters, Peggy M. Dolano of Saugerties, Barbara T. Dargan of Saugerties, Joan E. Clausi of East Kingston and Dotty P. Wade of Saugerties; one son, Robert J. Wade Jr., of Catskill; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews also survivor.
Mr. Wade was predeceased by four daughter, Dorothy Montgna, Marion Brown, Marge Burt, Janice Montgna and Edward Wade.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, corner of John and Lafayette Streets.
His funeral procession will form 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home, thence to St. Mary of the Snow where at 10:00 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered.

Catskill—John C. “Bud” Greiner, 88, of Catskill, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Columbia-Greene Long Term Care.
Born Jan. 5, 1915 on Canoe Hill in Saugerties, he was the son of the later Everrett and Violet (Graf) Greiner.
Mr. Greiner joined the National Guard in 1942. He respectfully served his country in World War II enlisting on May 12, 1944 and being honorably discharged Jan. 25, 1946. While serving he was stationed in Germany, the Philippines and France. Upon discharge he continued with the National Guard until 1953 and was also a lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol.
In 1954 Mr. Greiner worked on the New York Central Railroad and in 1960 he moved his family to the Athens area and worked for 23 years for the Town of Athens Highway Department. Upon retirement he volunteered at the Columbia-Greene Humane Society in Athens.
He was a talented musician who played piano, drums and guitar. His band, Johnny & the Cavaliers, played the Big Band sounds every weekend at Cure’s Inn in Coxsackie or Baumann’s Brookside in Greenville. He loved all the swing bands of the era.
He was past fire chief and a life member of the West Athens-Limestreet Fire Company, and a member of the American Legion Mohegan Post No. 983. In his later years he was interested and proud of his Native American heritage. He also enjoyed being outside, taking daily walks, looking for arrowheads and history in the world around him. He will be sincerely missed by those who loved him.
Survivors include four children of his second family, Bonnie Pflegl and her husband Frank of Hudson, George Greiner and his wife Donna of Catskill, Dawn Ordway and her partner Harold Hamilton of Boscawen, N. H., Pat Nabozny and her husband David of Fort Ann and their mother Juanita Greiner of Athens; five grandchildren of his first family; Judy, Bobby, Bruce, Maureen and Christine; an aunt, Mildred Purdy; and many friends. Between both families he has 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
He is predeceased by one wife, Marie Fisher, a daughter Marie South; a son Arthur Greiner, a brother Joe Rocklein; and a sister, Marge Bishop.

She is survived by her sister Rosemary Matteson and her long-time companion William Dunn, both of Catskill, as well as nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Green; brothers William Fred, Donald and Wilbur Schaffer; and sisters, Francis Shaffer, Nellie Schermerhorn, and Alice Christiana.

Col. Hubbard was a graduate of Catskill High School in 1939, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, as well as a long-time resident of Round Top in Greene County.
He is survived by his beloved companion Eileen Pierce Mank; children Keith David Hubbard of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Elise (Mrs. John Robinson) of Atlanta; brothers Robert M. Catskill—Elaine Joan Saunders, 69, a retired home health care worker for Greene Industries in Catskill, died Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson where she had been a patient.
She was born March 1, 1934 in Brooklyn, the daughter of Joseph and Alice (Elges) Loud and earned her Bachelor’s degree in health care.
She is survived by her husband Lawrence Sauders of Catskill whom she married in 1987; her mother Alice Elges Raab of St. James; sons John and Michael Kastner of Albany, and Steven Kastner of Catskill; grandchildren Christine, Brittany, Joe, Steven Kastner Jr., and Michelle; brother Joseph Loud; and nieces Kelly and Susan Loud.
She was predeceased in death by her father, Joseph Loud.

Greenville—Dorothea Hansen, 80, of Acra, died at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson on March 18, 2002.
She was born in Brooklyn on Sept. 2,1922, daughter of the late Oscar and Olga (Lindburg) Hackanson.
Dorothea and her husband of 61 years, Gustav Hansen, had operated the Tradesman Decorating Store in Cairo for over 20 years. They retired in 1992. She was a member of the Cairo Resurrection Lutheran Church.
Surviving are her husband; sons Robert Hansen and his wife Carol of Freehold, and Raymond Hansen and his wife Edythe of Howell, N. J., grandchildren Greg, Erik, Christina and Kari Hansen; brother Lenny Hackenson of Florida; sister Evelyn Leesha of Brooklyn and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother Alan Hackenson.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 21, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at the Cairo Resurrection Lutheran Church. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. As to her wishes cremation will be at the Albany Rural Cemetery following the service.
Those who desire may contribute in her memory to the American Cancer Society.

Kenneth S. Layman
Air Force veteran
Greenville—Kenneth Stephen Layman, 67, died March 18, 2003 at Hospice of St. Peter’s from complications due to lung cancer.
He was born in Brooklyn on April 12,1935, son of Elizabeth J. Grunewald Layman and Raymond H. Layman.
In high school, he loved baseball. He was scouted by the National League. His favorite team was the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Kenneth enlisted in the Air Force in 1954 and served his country with pride. He was a dispatcher and manager of Mitchell Transport for many years and retired from Hannay Reels in Westerlo after 25 years.
He was active in American Legion Post No. 291 of Greenville. Kenneth was also past Post Commander and past Commander of Greene County. He was also Oratorical Chairman of Post 291 and Greene County.
Kenneth enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping with his family. He was a charter member of the “Trout Tramps,” a coin collector and loved animals, especially his cats. He will be sorely missed.
Kenneth was the beloved husband of Barbara A. Layman for 43 years; beloved father of Edith S. Layman, Karen L. Faxon and Christopher R. Layman; beloved father-in-law of Timothy S. Faxon; beloved dad to Joanne Shay and William Carper; beloved grandpa to Paul D. LaPlante, Jennifer L. LaPlante, Andres G. LaPlante, Jillian L. Faxon, Rebecca LaPlante, Nicholas I. Faxon and Ryan W. Layman.
Kenneth is survived by brother William G. Layman and wife Mary Layman; brother and sister-in-law Victor L and Gail F. LaPlante; nieces and nephews JoAnne LaPlante, James T. LaPlante, John E. LaPlante, Darlene Layman, Raymond Layman, Michael Layman, and Marie Gracia; his special friend Everett “Bud” LaPlante and the late Edward Trudell and his wife Joyce and all their children who called him “uncle.”
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 20, 2003 at 8 p.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81 in Greenville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
American Legion Post 291 will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in the spring in the Greenville Cemetery.

Greenville—Mary O’Hare, 83, formerly of Greenville, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
She was born Oct. 4, 1919 in Queens, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Knapp.
Mrs. O’Hare had been a Greene County resident since 1950.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Vriale of Greenville and Barbara Conlon of Greenville, five grand children, Larry Vriale of Greenville; Ann Borwegen of Oak Hill; Jeff Dean of Coxsackie, Kelly Conlon and Kate Conlon, both of Greenville; and six great-grandchildren, Lauren, Danielle, Ryan, Nigel, Jocelyn and Olivia.
Mrs. O’Hare was predeceased by her husband John O’Hare in 1993; and a brother, Michael Knapp.
There will be no calling hours.
Private cremation was performed at Park View Cemetery in Schenectady.
Spring graveside services in St. Patrick’s Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.

Coxsackie—John Henry Smith, 78, a retired corrections office and Fire Safety Officer for the state Department of Corrections in Coxsackie, died Monday, March 17, 2003 at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, Fla., where he had been a patient.
He was born Nov. 9, 1924 in Taghkanic to the late John and Florence K. (Phillips) Smith. He lived in Bradenton, Fla. since 1986 and was previously from Catskill.
Mr. Smith was a life member of Hose Co. No. 1, Loyal Order of Moose No. 1223 Bradenton, Fla., Volunteer Fire Judging Association, Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Greene County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, past President of Greene County Fire Chiefs Association FASNY, Order of Red Vests and Pittsburgh Pirates Booster Club.
He is survived by his wife, the former Phyllis Bleau; son John D. Smith of Coxsackie; daughter Janet Marie Beza of Concord, Calif., Barbara Ann Roccio of West Athens, Holly Jane Martin of Coxsackie; grandchildren, Geoffrey Smith, Ashley Smith, Heather Mullen, Rhiannon Rice, Adam Martin and Ashlee Martin; great-grandchildren Patrick Mullen and Gabriella Rice; sisters Helen Hover of Calverack and Betty Morrison of Greenwich, N. J.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill on Friday, March 21, 2003 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Members of the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association are requested to attend services at 7:30p.m. and members of Hose 1 are requested to attend 8 p.m. services.

Athens—Ruth S. Albright, 84, died Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at Lee Memorial Health Park in Fort Myers, Fla.
She was born on Sept. 6, 1918 in Albany to the late J. Harry and Ina Hinman Schmidt.
She graduated from Catskill High School in 1936 and the Eastman School of Dental Hygiene in 1937. She married Thomas William Albright on May 12, 1940 and then resided on the family orchard and farm in Athens.
She was a retired dental hygiene teacher for the Green County School District.
She was past president of the Board of Directors Green County TB & RD Association, past president of Coxsackie-Athens PTA council, a member of Consistory and Women’s Fellowship of the First Reformed Church of Athens, and Women’s Aglow Fellowship.
She was predeceased in death by her husband Thomas William Albright, on April 6, 1991.
She is survived by her daughters Linda Eypper of Wappingers Falls, Joy Albright of Athens, and Sara Cutler of Albany; grandchildren Mrs. Greg (Penelope “Penny”) LeFever of Wappingers Falls, Mrs. Dan (Jeannie) Stearns of Albany, and Leon Thomas Cutler; great-grandchildren Olivia LeFever, Nicholas Stearns, Christian Stearns, Sidonie Stearns, and several cousins.
Visitations will be at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill, on Monday, March 24 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

White Plains—Hal Johnson, 82, of White Plains, NY, died on March 20, 2003 after a lengthy illness.
Hal was born on Nov. 16, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY. the son of the late John Johnson.
Hall was educated in Brooklyn. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Army; he was self-employed as a construction worker and remodeler for Four-Star Kitchens. He also was a volunteer in the White Plains Emergency Room for over 15 years.
Hal spent 25 years in White Plains, and before that he lived in East Meadow, NY. He visited Catskill during the summer months.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife Louise (Maurer) Johnson, whom he married in Windham on Nov. 12, 1977. Other survivors include his three sons, Hal J. Jr., of Clifton Park, Jack of Commack, NY and Wayne Johnson of Catskill; as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be Sunday, March 23, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home, 491 Mamaroneck Ave, in White Plains.
A Memorial service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Catskill—Frank Mondun, 76, a long-time resident of Albany, died Thursday, Mach 20, 2003 at the Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center Hospital in Albany.
He was born Feb. 26, 1927 in Catskill, the son of the later Wilbur Mondun and Marie (Graf) Mondun.
Frank served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II.
He was predeceased by his wife Barbara Lois Dickson, his son Martin Mondun, and his brother Albert Mondun.
Frank is survived by his daughter Karen Mondun-Hylton and her husband Vincent, both of Poughkeepsie; son Jeffrey Mondun; sisters Dorothy Mondun, Rosie Mondun and Margaret Branch, all of Albany; brothers Donald and Fred Mondun, both of Albany, and William Mondun of California; as well as four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Homegoing services will be conducted at noon on Tuesday, March 25, at the United Methodist Church on Woodland Ave. in Catskill. The Rev. Moses Carter will officiate. Interment will follow at the Catskill Rural Cemetery.
Relative and friends may call at the United Methodist Church on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon.

Cairo—Madeline Cedrini, 86, of Cornwallville, died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at Community Hospice of Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
She was born Aug. 25, 1916 in Manhattan, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Grabarini.
Mrs. Cedrini owned and operated Cedrini’s Lodge from 1951 to 1990.
She was also a resident of Columbia-Green Long Term Care.
Survivors include a nephew, Peter Garbarini of Cheektowaga; and a niece, Celeste Garbarini of Coxsackie. She has other siblings living in Italy.
Mr. Cedrini was predeceased by her husband Joseph and brother Peter Garbarini Sr.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Richards Funeral Home, 383 Bross St., Cairo.
Funeral services will take place 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, at the funeral home. The Rev. Fr. J. Nunan, pastor of the Sacred Heart Church, Cairo will officiate.

Catskill—Minnie Giselle June, 95, died Sunday, March 23, 2002 at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill, where she had been a resident since 2001.
She was born Oct. 31, 1907 in Point Phillips, Pa., the daughter of the late Thomas and Martha (Hoot) Bartholomew.
She married Vernon June Sept. 1, 1928 and he predeceased her on Aug. 1, 1993.
Mrs. Giselle was a retired cook for the former Cowhey’s Camp on High Falls Road.
Survivors include daughter, Dora Martin of Catskill; son, Herbert V. June of Catskill, son, Frederick June of Catskill; a brother, Harold Bartholomew of Hudson; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. June was predeceased by 11 siblings: Esther Silvernail, Eva Schaefer, Alice Huff, Mabel Horton, Dot Horton, George Bartholomew, Daniel Bartholomew, Harold Bartholomew, Thomas Bartholomew, David Bartholomew and William Bartholomew.

Coxsackie—Virginia Grace (Smith) Petrigliano, 75, of Ely Street, Coxsackie, died suddenly Friday, March 21, 2003 at Albany Medical Center.
She was born in Jersey City, N. J., June 6, 1927 and was the daughter of the late William and Frances (Weimer) Smith.
Mrs. Petrigliano and her husband George E. Petrigliano, brought their family to Coxsackie in 1959 and purchased The Little Store on Lafayette Avenue form the Steele family and became an active participant in the lives of many.
A member of St. Mary’s Church, she was a member of St. Mary’s Rosary Society, choir and Columbiettes.
After retirement she devoted her time to her children, grandchildren and her extended family as well as rooting for the New York Yankees.
Survivors include her husband and best friend of 57 years, George E. Petrigliano; a son, George Thomas and wife Skye of Albany; daughters, Rosemarie, and her husband, Paul Craw, Patricia and her husband David Stockman, and Virginia and husband Gary Hillicoss, all of Coxsackie; grandsons Jason and Evan Donnelly and granddaughters, Chyenne and Savannah Hillicoss of Coxsackie and granddaughters Lisa Bennett and Angela Madden (daughter of George T. Petrigliano), great-grandsons James Wood and Caleb Madden; a brother, Edwin Smith and two sisters Eleanor Becker and Edith Graziano, several nieces and nephews and godson Patrick Kennedy.
Besides her parents she is predeceased by two brothers, Arthur and William Smith, two sisters Dot Treihart and Frances Hovath, all of New Jersey.

Coxsackie—Stephen Kapusta Jr., 89, died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at his home in Medway after a long illness.
Born June 14, 1913, in East Port Chester, Conn., he was the son of the late Stephen Sr. and Maria (Junas) Kapusta.
Mr. Kapusta was employed by several area foundries and retired from the Allied Boat Company of Catskill.
Survivors include his two sister, Anna Martins and Josephine Flansburg, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and his wife Florence, he was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph, William and John Kapusta; and a sister, Wilma Anderson.

Albany—Joane E. Nimms, 79, of Colonie died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at Eden Park Nursing Home.
She was born in New York City on May 10, 1923, and was the daughter of the later John and Marie Caravatta.
Mrs. Nimms lived in the Bronx for many years while working as a payroll supervisor for Elizabeth Arden Inc. In 1985 she retired and moved to Leeds where she enjoyed her hobbies of reading, gardening and caring for her dearly loved pets.
She will always be remembered as a friend who appreciated the simple things life had to offer, a meal with friends and a hearty laugh. She possessed the ability to make you feel better simply by knowing her.
Survivors include a sister, Edith Caravatta of Catskill and her friends of many years, Terry Beglin.

She was born in Germany on Dec. 2, 1911, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Zickmund.
Prior to her retirement, she was a secretary for the Doubleday Company in New York City. She was also a member of the Golden Age Club and Golden Age Bowling Team.
She is survived by nieces Winifred Blaum of Queensbury and a niece in Germany named Molar. She is also survived by a dear friend, Marlene E. Case of Greenville.

Hudson—Katherine Mariak, 76, formerly of Hudson, died Friday, March 21, 2003 in Miami after a lengthy illness.
She was daughter of the late Paul and Anna (Stawarchuk) Mariak.
She was a graduate of Hudson High School; attended Russell Sage College in Troy and graduated from Albany College of Pharmacy with a B. S. in Medical Technology.
Katherine retired in 1988 from Jackson Memorial Hospital as a Medical Lab Technologist in Chemistry after 31 years of service.
She is survived by sisters Nellie Lomery of Miami and Mary King of Albany; brother Samuel Mariak of Catskill; sister-in-law Mary Mariak; five nieces; and three nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother Michael Mariak.
A calling hour will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, March 28 at the Bates & Anderson –Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green St., in Hudson.

Hurley—Mark D. Boomhower, 45, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Catskill and Kingston, died suddenly as a result of a motor vehicle/pedestrian accident in Tampa on March 15, 2003.
He was born Jan. 31, 1958 in Albany, the son of A. Donald and Phyllis (Guldenstern) Boomhower of Kingston.
He was a graduate of Kingston High School. He played trumpet in the Junior and Senior High School Band. He was employed, at the time of his death, as a forklift operator for Colonial Grocers in Tampa.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife Celia (Langdale) Boomhower; daughter Christa Boomhower; stepchildren Shawn and Damon Polk and Chantel Hale, all of Tampa; brother Donald Lennon and his wife Tracey; nephew and niece Matthew and Sara Lennon, all of Grifton, N. C.; as well as an uncle and several aunts and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at the New Hope Baptist Church, located at the corners of Thomas and Cheryl Streets in Hurley on Saturday April 5, 2003 at 11 a. m.
Interment will be in the spring in the Westerlo Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Albany—Virginia M. (Klose) Heath, 73, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at St. Peter’s Hospital after a long illness.
She was born in Albany on June 5, 1929, the daughter of the late Fred and Anna O’Hara Klose. During the 1960’s, she was head dietician for Duanesburg Head Start and also had worked as a cleaning person in the area.
She is survived by her children, Diane Thompson of Ravena, William Heath of Alice, Texas, Nancy Camley of Athens, Patty Heath of Coeymans, Virginia Heath of Coeymans, Virginia Heath of Ravena, Mary Santiago of Coxsackie, Carol LaSanta of Ravena, Lisa Lochridge of Spokane, Wash., Christopher Heath of Medusa, Joseph Heath of Ravena and Joanne Heath of Albany; sister Pat Hammond of Voorheesville; as well as 31 grand children and six great-grandchildren.

Cairo—Marvin H. Smith, 84, formerly of Fairground Estates in Cairo, died on March 26, 2003 at Eden Park Health Facility in Catskill after a long illness.
He was born in Cherokee, Iowa on Nov. 26, 1918 and was the son of the late Roland and Josephine (Staver) Smith.
During World War II he served his country in the U. S. Army. He was also a professional chef employed at the well-known Bickford’s Restaurant in New York City.
He is survived by his wife Helen V. (Nemick) Smith of Catskill; brother Boyd Smith of Florida and niece Kelly Smith of Cairo. He was predeceased by two sisters.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at the Richards Funeral Home, 383 Bross St., Cairo, on Sunday, March 30 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 31, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church of Cairo, with the Rev. J. Nunan, pastor, as the celebrant.
Interment will follow Tuesday in the family plot of Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery in Flushing.

Preston Hollow—E. Edna Goodfellow, 85, of Preston Hollow, died Friday, March 28, 2003.
She was born Nov. 7, 1917 in Medusa, daughter of the late Lester and Lillian (Rivenburg) Hallock.
Mrs. Goodfellow was a retired rural mail carried having worked out of the Westerlo Post Office.
She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, loved to bowl and would always enjoy playing cards.
Mrs. Goodfellow enjoyed helping others in need and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter Donna Winans and her husband Gerald of Preston Hollow; a son, Gerald Goodfellow of Preston Hollow; grandchildren, Chad Goodfellow and his wife Amy, Darren Goodfellow and his wife Kim, Gregg Winans and his wife Ani and Kimberly Winans; also surviving are 11 great-grandchildren and a brother William Hallock of Preston Hollow.
Mrs. Goodfellow was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Goodfellow.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Preston Hollow Baptist Church in Preston Hollow.
Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, prior to the service.
Interment will follow in the Brookside Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s Community Hospice or to the Town of Rensselaerville Ambulance.

Thomas J. Rooney
World War II veteran
Coxsackie—Thomas J. Rooney, 80, of West Virginia and Coxsackie, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at the residence of his son on Schoharie Turnpike, Coxsackie, after a long illness.
He was born Dec. 6, 1922 in Yonkers and was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (McDermott) Rooney.
Mr. Rooney was an area resident since 1968, during World War II he served with the U. S. Army.
During his years of employment he was employed by the New York Central Railroad and Conrail.
He was also a member of the VFW and the D.M. Hamilton Fire Company of Coxsackie.
Survivors include his wife Grace (Carpenter) Rooney, sons Daniel Rooney, Thomas and wife Debra Rooney, Wesley and Diana Johnson, Brian and wife Robin Johnson; a sister, Kay McGuire; and six grandchildren, April, Anne, Jermey, Billy, Allison and Casey.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the W. C. Brady’s Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. John Moyna, pastor of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church of Coxsackie, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the family plot of the St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery, next to his first wife Gertrude, who predeceased him 26 years ago.

Cairo—William Schwarz, 82, of Vernal Butler Road, Purling, died Sunday afternoon, March 30, 2003 at his residence after a long illness.
