Passed away suddenly
Catskill – Jada Nicole Keyes, 3 of 23 Hop-O-Nose, Catskill, died suddenly Monday, May 28, 2006, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
She was born April 17, 2003 in Albany, the daughter of Amy C. Fuller of Catskill and Jeremiah Fleming of Madison, Wis.
Jada is also survived by her sister, Cadence C. Bareto of Catskill; grandparents, Joseph and Catherine Watson of Catskill, Lance Singleton of Wis.; great-grandmother, Elizabeth Fuller of Wis.; an aunt, Cara-Lee Fuller of Catskill; and many great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins and friends.
Relatives and friends may call at the Traver and McCurry Funeral, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, on Friday from 1 to 2pm.
Private funeral services will follow at 2pm at the funeral home.
The Rev. Gwen Alleva, pastor at the Triumphant House of Praise of Cairo, will be officiating.

Cook at Finch’s Restaurant
Coxsackie – Verna E. Guilzon, 88 of 426 Adams Road, Coxsackie, died May 31, 2006, at Eden Park Health Care Center, Catskill, where she has been a resident since April 14, 2006.
She was born in Coxsackie, January 6, 1918, and was the daughter of the late George and Harriet (Finch) Manbert.
Funeral services will take place Saturday, June 3, 2006, at 11am, at the W.C. Brady’s Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie, with the Rev. John Kopennall officiating.
Interment will follow in the family plot of the Riverside Cemetery, Coxsackie, next to her late husband, William J. Guilzon Jr., who predeceased her on May 23, 1978.
Prior to her retirement, she was a cook at Finch’s Restaurant in Coxsackie.
Her hobby was cooking and she loved boating with her late husband.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Oliver (Donna) J. Diehl of Germantown; a son, William (George) and wife Janet Guilzon of Miss.; six grandchildren, Charlene Diehl of Germantown, Darlene Weed of Clermont, Tobyjean Marzahl of Germantown, Joshua Guilzon of Coxsackie, Vernea Diehl of Arizona, Jessica Guilzon of Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, she is predeceased by her brother, Daniel Manbert.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 pm.

Lottie E. Rehse

Catskill – Lottie E. Rehse, 86 of Catskill, died Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at her residence following a long illness.
Mrs. Rehse was born in Kiel, Germany in May 4, 1920 to the late Rudolph and Erna Hass. Following her graduation from high school, she was employed in a large department store in Germany. On April 4, 1943 she became the wife of Heinz Rehse and they immigrated to the United States in 1950. She and her husband owned and operated the Rip Van Winkle Service Station at the Rip Van Winkle bridge approach from 1964 until 1983. A gifted crafter, she created beautiful crocheted and embroidered pieces and enjoyed wintering in Florida at their retirement residence.
Mrs. Rehse is survived by her husband of 63 years, Heinz Rehse of Catskill and their three children; Dirk Rehse of Rochester, Kathleen Rehse of Athens, and Mrs. Arnold (Karen) Schmatz of Catskill; daughter-in-law, Diane Rehse of Rochester; three grandchildren: Wesley Rehse of Rochester, Christopher Schmatz and Ali Schmatz of Catskill; as well as several nieces and nephews in Germany. She was predeceased by her sister, Katie Wuller and twp brothers; Rudolph Hass and Werner Hass.
A Committal service will be held on Thursday, June 1 at 2pm in the Town of Catskill Cemetery. Those attending are requested to meet at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill at 1:45pm.

Valmer Cross
WWII veteran
Prattsville – Valmer (Val) Cross of Prattsville died on May 30, 2006 at the New York State Veteran’s Home in Oxford, NY.
Val was born in Middletown, the son of Victor and Freda (Irwin) Cross.
Val was predeceased by his brother, Robert.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Stella (Delmar) Cross, whom he married on July 6, 1947.
He is also survived by his sons, Valmer Jr. of Prattsville and Victor of Florida; his sisters, Gertrude Miller of Phoenicia, Dorothy and her husband Norman Van Valkenburgh of Saugerties; sister-in-law, Dee Cross.
He was the grandfather of Michael and Krista Cross, RoseAnn Cross, Christy and mark Anderson, Regina Cross; great-grandfather of Miranda, Nicholas and Brianna Cross, Kaitlynn Cross Greco, Mark Anderson, Jr., Zachary Cross; brother-in-law of Tony and Connie Dalmar, Alice and Ted Robinson, Bob Husted, Shirley Dalmar, Virginia and Bob Gurley, Butch and Kitty Ballard.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Val was a truck driver, working in the construction industry for Standard Bridge Inc., located in Albany.
He was a WWII veteran of the US Navy, having served in the Pacific Theatre.
He was extremely active in the American Legion, having held many offices.
Val was a member of the Virgil E. Deyo Post No. 1327, Prattsville, where he held every office at one time or another. On the county level he was past Greene County Commander, on the district level he held the office of third district commander form 1994-1995, and on the state level he was a past department vice commander.
Val was also a member of the WWII Memorial, Sampson WWII Navy Veterans, a member of the US Navy Memorial, Washington, DC.
In addition to his veteran affiliations, he was a 50 year, mason belonging to Mountain Lodge, No. 529 in Windham.
He was also past associate member of the Hunter-Tannersville Central School Alumni Association.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Windham, from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:30pm and an American Legion Service will follow at 7:45pm.
Interment will be in the Saratoga National Cemetery, Saratoga, on Monday, June 12, 2006.

Milton Osborn
WWII
Florida – Milton Osborn, 71, of Ruckert Circle, a heavy equipment operator for Volusia County Road and Bridge, and for New York State Road and Bridge, died Sunday, May 14, 2006, at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, Orange City.
Mr. Osborn was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, was born in Hunter, and moved to Florida from Catskill in 1986.
He was a member of the Elks Club in Catskill.
He enjoyed working with his hands and on cars, and was always there to lend a helping hand.
Survivors include two sons, Chris of Florida and Tim of Catskill; a daughter, Denise DeGennaro of Pearl River; and three granddaughters.
For those who wish to attend, a memorial service will be held Monday, June 5, at 11am at the Gerald B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY.

Coxsackie – Chester J. Perry, Jr., 57, died suddenly on Wednesday, May 31, 2006.
He is survived by his beloved wife Linda B. Perry of Coxsackie, his daughters Tammy L. Lopez of Coxsackie, Colleen A. Berry and fiancé Greg Walker of Lake Katrine, granddaughter Britney E. Berry and grandson Joshua P. Lopez, his sister Harriet Blakeslee of Medusa, brother and wife Louis E. Crewell of Athens, as well as mother-in-law Marjoria Crewell of West Coxsackie. He is also survived by his brother- and sister-in laws Edward and Kathleen Krzykowski and Thomas and Sons Deyo Sr., as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews, many located in Maline, where his family originated, including Karl and Donna Johnston of Malone.
He was predeceased by his mother and father Chester J. Perry Sr., and Ethel J. Fieman-Perry. Also predeceased by his father-in-law Raymond Crewell and sister Karen Vroman.
Chet was an avid hunter, born in Bellmont, on Aug. 30, 1948, who loved his family as well as everyone who he came in contact with. He loved his home and took pride in keeping it looking nice. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time with is grandchildren. He began his career in fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He began his career on the railroad with Penncentral in Feb. 26, 1974, then on to Conrail and most recently CSX as a carman performing work with the wrecking crew on the road truck and most recently as a safety man trainer.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at the WC Brady’s Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie, on Sunday, June 4, 2006, from 1 to 5pm, with a service at 5pm immediately following the calling hours at the funeral home.
Rev. Paul Peters, pastor of the First Reformed Church of West Coxsackie, will officiate the service.

Catskill – Joyce Serape Ruthman, 72, of 207 Bethel Ridge Road, Catskill, died Thursday, June 1, 2006.
She was born July 19, 1933 in Boston, the daughter of the late Yervant and Zevart Kebabjian.
Joyce was employed as a cashier for Irving School and Grandview School in Catskill, for over 30 years prior to her retirement in 2000.
She was a member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Cairo.
Joyce will be greatly missed by her family and remembered for her kindness, caring and loving ways. The family would like to thank everyone for the care and support they provided during her illness.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 50 years, Charles H. Ruthman of Catskill; two daughters, Laura Bradley of Catskill, Linda Roberts and husband Michael of Catskill; grandchildren, Lila and Liam Roberts, Nicholas and Marcus Price; and a host of other relatives.

Lithia, Ga – Stephen Edward Laden, 99, of Lithia, Ga, formerly of East Durham, died Saturday, May 13, 2006.
He was born Nov. 14, 1906 in New Jersey.
He was a millwright with Local Union 740 for many years.
Mr. Laden and his wife, Alice Leute Laden, spent many winters in Naples, Fla., but always called East Durham home. His wife predeceased him.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Elizabeth Laden of Westbrookville, Sullivan County; a daughter, Nancy Stallard of Lithia, Ga.; three grandchildren, Toni Stirtz and her husband and her husband Timothy, Shane Laden and his wife, Frances and Andrew Stallard; four great-grandchildren’ and many other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held 1pm June 30 at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Route 81, Oak Hill with the Rev. Reay Mahler officiating.

East Durham – Tristan James Russell, infant, died Friday, June 2, 2006, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
He was the son of Tadhg and Corbette Kearney Russell of East Durham.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include two brothers, Peyton and Ryan Russell; grandparent, Timothy Russell of Greenville, Margaret Reidin of Palenville and Claude and Katherine Kearney of East Durham’ and great-grandparents, Shela Evans of Palenville, Doris Ormsbee of Catskill and Irene Kearney of Catskill.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Ashland.

Glens Falls – Evelyn G. MacGlashan, died Sunday, June 4, 2006, at Glens Falls Hospital in Glens Falls.
Born June 23, 1915 in Maplecrest, she was the daughter of Howard and Carrie Drum Crandell.
Survivors include two sisters, Lillian MacGlashan and Marie Speenburgh; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, June 19, 1988.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 pm Friday at Decker Funeral Home, Windham.
A graveside service will be conducted 10 am Saturday in the Maplewood Cemetery, Jewett.

Kingston – Graveside services for William Sanford Rizzi, who died Nov. 24, 2005, at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, will be held 10:30am Saturday, with full military honors, at the New Athens Rural Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Peters, pastor of the frist Reformed Church of Coxsackie, officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Richards Funeral Home, 28 North Vernon St., Athens.

Patrick M. Falzone, Sr.
Avid jazz guitarist
Catskill – Loving husband and father, Pat Falzone Sr. joined our Holy Father in Heaven on June 6, 2006 surrounded by his loved ones.
Pat was born on Feb. 2, 1920 and grew up in New York City with his parents Gasper and Nicolina and brother Sebastian (Smitty), now deceased.
He joined the C.C.C.’s in 1937 where he helped construct highways in Nevada. Pat was an avid jazz guitarist and had his own swing bands in the 1930’s and 40’s. He was also an active member of the Boy Scouts of America troop leader for many years.
Pat married Anna in 1943 and together they enjoyed a beautiful life until her passing in 1980. Pat later worked as a cutter for A.S. Beck. He eventually retired from the fine leather goods manufacturer Etienne Aigner in 1985.
In 1983 Pat married Lillian and together they enjoyed their beautiful retired life in the home that he hand-built in the Catskill Mountains.
Wherever he went people knew him and loved him for his sense of humor, open friendliness, and gift of storytelling. He had a love of Native American culture and was an avid reader and historian on this subject. Pat was a kind and generous man who helped raise and prepare four adoring children for all of life’s challenges. He was a wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather as well as a wonderful friend.
He is survived by his loving wife Lillian; daughter Patricia and husband Walter; daughter Elizabeth and husband Richie; son Patrick Jr. and wife Judy; Barbara and Frank, Stepchildren: Timothy, William, Peter, Patricia, Theresa, Bernadette and their families; fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A Committal service will be held Friday, June 9 at 2pm at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings-On Cemetery under the direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill.

Cobleskill – Anna M. (Nordenberg) Warner, 43, of East Main Street, Richmondville, died Tuesday, June 6, 2006 following a long illness.
Anna was born Nov. 16, 1962, in Catskill.
She graduated from Catskill High School and SUNY Cobleskill with academic honors of being named on the dean’s list. Anna was a licensed beautician, working at Mountain View Manor Home for Adults in Middleburgh. She had also been a teacher’s aide at Radez Elementary School in Richmondville and was a stock clerk at Price Chopper in Cobleskill. Her love for children allowed her to be a caretaker for them in her own home.
Anna was a member of the Cobleskill Historical Society. She was an avid hunter, hiker, and outdoor person, and completed her survival school.
Survivors include her mother, Judith (Benjamin) Boughal of Richmondville, her father, Raymond K. Nordenberg Sr. of Catskill; her son Brandon Warner of Richmondville; two brothers: Raymond K. Nordenberg II of Palenville, and Scott Nordenberg of Earlton; her maternal grandmother, Helen Benjamin of Cobleskill; her lifelong friend, Suzan Sloyan; one nephew; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm Saturday, June 10, 2006, at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St. Cobleskill with Pastor Peter DeBartolo of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Middleburgh officiating.
Interment will be private at the family’s convenience.

Mary (VanWie) Steele

Coxsackie – Mary (VanWie) Steele, 83, of Coxsackie, died on June 7, 2006, surrounded by her loving family.
She lived her entire life in the home she was born in, in Coxsackie, to the late William and Alice (McGuigan) Van Wie, on July 24, 1922.
She was predeceased by her two brothers, William and Henry Van Wie.
Active in many organizations, Mary was an integral part of Coxsackie. She was a lifelong member, past president, and one of the original members of the Coxsackie Columbiettes Council 548. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Rosary Society, a former Eucharistic minister of St. Mary’s and an active member of the Greene County Democratic Party. She also worked in the National Bank of Coxsackie for many years, and was village clerk for Coxsackie when her family was young. Mary then went to work for the Memorial Hospital of Greene County, retiring in 1986 as staffing coordinator after 21 years of service.
She married Willard J. Steele on November 9, 1950, and together they celebrated 25 years of marriage until his death on Sept. 17, 1986.
She loved to knit and crochet and her artistic works are found throughout the Greene County area. Her sense of humor is well-known and has been felt by all who were blessed to have known her.
Mary is survived by her children: Mary Pat (Richard) Leonard, William (Diane) Steele, and Alicia (Darryl) Proper; eight grandchildren, Colleen (Timothy) Jackson, Jason (Jeannine) Leonard, Tracy (Jason Pigott) Leonard, Melissa (Robert) Slater, William II, and Brandie Steele, Tara and Tyler Proper; five great-grandchildren, Blake, Alexius, Evan, Taylor, and Adam and numerous cousins. She has also left behind three very special lifetime friends; Trilby Hotaling and Julia and Alfred Daoust.
Her family would like to offer a sincere thank you to the loving, caring, and special people at Whittier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center for the love and compassion they gave to both our mother and our family over the past few months. They are all truly angels of mercy.

John W. Montague
WWII veteran
Hudson – John W. Montague, 83, formerly of 135 Main St., Philmont, died at the Pine Haven Nursing Home, Philmont, on June 7 2006, where he was a resident since March 2003.
Born Aug. 26, 1922 in Hudson, he was the son of the late William E. and Loletia Huddleston Montague.
A 1940 graduate of Philmont High School, he served with the US Army Signal Corp., from Feb. 24, 1941 until discharged on Nov. 21, 1945.
He was a 50 year member and past chief of the Philmont Fire co. and a 61 year member and past commander of the Minkter Seery Post American Legion. He was a co-owner of The Montague Oil Co. in Philmont from 1945-1990.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret E. Wachter Montague of Pine Haven Nursing Home; a son, Ronald Montague of Ghent; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Verna Montague of Philmont; a sister, Patricia Mosdy of Claverack; three grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Ronald, who died in the Battle of Io Jima.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at the Valenti and Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Hudson on Monday June 12, from 6-8pm.

Werner K. Stiefel
Founded Stiefel Labs
Vero Beach, Fla. – Werner K. Stiefel, 85, died June 8, 2006, at VNA Hospice House near his home in Vero Beach. Born on March 10, 1921 in Brooklyn, he grew up in Montclair, NJ., and Preston Hollow, Albany County, and later resided for many years in Oak Hill, Greene County.
After his graduation from Yale University in 1942 with a BS degree in chemical engineering, he founded the Stiefel Medicinal Soap Company which later became Stiefel Laboratories, Inc. He remained President and CEO until his retirement in 2001. Under his leadership, Stiefel Laboratories became, and remains, the largest privately owned dermatological (skin product) company in the world with over 2,500 employees and offices in over 100 countries worldwide.
Mr. Stiefel was a scientist and inventor who was granted nine United States patents. He was a retired member of the Board of Directors of Norstar Bank of Albany, the Pioneer Insurance Company of Greenville, and president of the Board of Education of the Durham Central School, where he was instrumental in bringing about its merger with Cairo Central School to create the Cairo-Durham School District in Greene County. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Greenville, and a long-time Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 101, East Durham. He was a licensed ham radio operator under call letters W2HSK, Mr. Stiefel was an Honorary Life Member of the North American Clinical Dermatological Society, and also belonged to the prestigious Annenberg Circle of the Dermatology Foundation, which annually hosts the Werner K. Stiefel lectureship delivered by a world-renowned dermatologist.
Mr. Stiefel is survived by his wife Marie (Caruso) Stiefel and six children: John (Joyce) of Wethersfield, Conn., Edward (Deborah) of Naples, Fla., Charles (Daneen) of South Miami, Fla., Joan Stiefel Rodriguez (Ignacio) of Rockville, Md., Stephanie Stiefel Williams (Luke) of Guilford, Conn., and Lili Stiefel of Washington, DC. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren: John David Stiefel, Kristen Stiefel Levithan (Josh), William Stiefel, Lisa Stiefel, Jeffrey Stiefel, Todd Stiefel (Diana), Brent Stiefel (Courtney), Melanie Rodriguez, Andrew Rodriguez, Marilyn Rodriguez, Valerie Williams and Richard Williams; and three great-grandchildren: Cole, Amber and Sienna Stiefel.
He was predeceased by a son, Richard, and his first wife, Catherine (Pierson) Stiefel.
Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Oak Hill, with a private service following. The date of a public memorial service will be announced. Robert M. Mahone, Sr.

Robert M. Mahone, 71, a lifelong resident of Fishkill, died at Cortlandt Health Care Facility in Peekskill, Saturday, June 10, 2006.
He was born Dec. 15, 1934, in Beacon.
He served our country in the US Air Force from 1952 to 1954.
He worked for former Gravelins Auto Body in Fishkill from 1961-1964. He then worked for Williams Auto Body from 1961-1981, when he bought the business and changed the name to Bob’s Fishkill Auto Body. He retired in 1996.
He was a life member of Protection Engine Company 1, and served as a captain and the fire police, he was also a captain and life member of Dutchess Junction Fire Police, past president of Dutchess County Fire Police Association, president of New York State Fire Police Association, member of the Federation of Police, Dutchess County Emergency Response Team, Hudson Valley Lodge 188 Fraternal Order of Fire Police and was appointed a court officer in the Village of Wappingers Falls.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Ruth (Babcock) Mahone of Fishkill; tow sons: Robert Mahone Jr. and his wife Catherine of Fishkill; Joseph Mahone and his wife April of South Carolina and a daughter Virginia Kratvichil of Cairo. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren. He was previously married from 1959 to 1969 to Nellie Short.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, June 13, 2006 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 9pm at the Libby Funeral Home Inc., 55 Teller Ave., Beacon.
Services will be conducted Wednesday, 2 pm at the funeral home with Fire Police Chaplain Sonny Cohn officiating.
Interment will follow with full fire department honors at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.

Cairo – Dorothy Lais, 86, of Route 23B, South Cairo, died Sunday, June 11, 2006, at the residence of friend, Bettina Coons in Country Estates, South Cairo.
Born July 7, 1919 in Lindhurst, NJ, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Jennie Smith Brown.
Mrs. Lais was a registered nurse and was a graduate of St. Luke’s Hospital. She did her nursing in Albany Medical Center, and also several hospitals in New York City and Florida.
She was well known for her professionalism and knowledge in nursing and practiced her skills and was well known in the Greene County Memorial Hospital, Catskill.
Survivors include her friend, Bettina Coons.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Lais.
Private cremation will take place today at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.

Jess H. Brayton, 21 of Main Street, died Saturday, June 10, 2006.
Born May 1, 1985 in Colorado Springs, Col., he was the son of Douglas G. and Joyce M. Dachenhausen Brayton.
A graduate of Saugerties High School Class of 2003, he earned an associates degree in electrical contracting at Hudson Valley Community College in 2005.
He was employed at Jaffer Electric in Kingston.
Mr. Brayton was a motorcycle dirt bike enthusiast and enjoyed working on and repairing motorcycles and cars.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his brother, Jake H. Brayton of Malden-on-Hudson; and an aunt, uncle and several cousins.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Ronald and Adelaide Brayton; maternal grandparents, George and Rose Dachenhausen; and an uncle, Michael D. Dachenhausen.
A funeral service will be held 11 am Wednesday at Seabon-Wilsey Funeral home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette streets in Saugerties with the Rev. Linda McEathron, pastor of the Malden Methodist Church, officiating.

Mrs. McKenna was a registered nurse for 50 years.
She was a long-standing member of the Derryman’s Association, former member of the Catholic Daughters, Court of St. Theresa and Eucharist Minister at St. Bridget’s Church in Leeds.
Survivors include four children, Kathleen Shine, Maureen (Mary) Nolan, Maurice and Kevin; sons- and daughter-in-law, Frank, John and Angela; four sisters, Elizabeth Kennan, May Kealy, Jean Healy, and Rosaleen Walls in Derry; 10 grandchildren, Erin Bridget (Butler), Gerard, Kieran and Colleen Shine, Jonathan, Kaitlin Bridget and Daniel Nolan, and Sean, Siobhan and Claire Bridget McKenna; a great-granddaughter; and 43 nieces and nephews, both in the United States and Ireland.
She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice; three sisters, Rachel Kelly, Margaret Ward and Patricia O’Neill; and a brother, Henry P. Walls.

Born March 1, 1912 in Malden, Ulster County, she was the daughter of the late Steven and Anna Hull Hines.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Sulkey of Catskill and William F. Sulkey of Coxsackie; five daughters, Joan Sasso of Athens, Lorraine Kilmer of Ancram, Ann Pelligrino of Jackson, NJ, Sandra Pacheco of Catskill and Darlene Sulkey of Florida; 33 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis Sulkey, on Dec. 6, 1975; and two sons, Frank Sulkey Jr., in 1975 and John Sulkey in 2001.

Catskill – Ernest L. Greene, Jr., 77, of Route 23B, Leeds, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. He was born Oct. 7, 1928 in Hunter, the son of the late Ernest and Violet (Osborn) Greene Sr.
Ernest served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was employed as an Operating Engineer for I. and O.A. Slutzky Construction of Hunter for over 50 years. Ernest helped develop the slopes at Hunter Mountain Ski Bowl and the Olympic Ski Jump Ramps at Lake Placid, and also worked at many municipal projects throughout the local communities and New York State.
Mr. Greene is survived by his wife of over 52 years, Mrs. Joan L. (Overbaugh) Greene of Leeds; Bradford Greene and wife Melissa of Catskill; Sheila Miller and husband Charles of Athens; a brother, William Greene and wife Madeline of Leeds; Arlene Gabriele and husband Ronald of Catskill; five sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; five grandchildren: Tiffany Miller of Athens; Bradford Greene Jr. of Catskill and Jessica Greene of Catskill, Caroline Oathout of Kiskatom and Susan Fisher of Illinois; five grerat0grandchildren: Vincent Holliday, Zachary Oathout, Victoria Oathout, Haylee Fisher and Gavin Fisher; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Prior to his illness, he was employed at Berkshire Farms as a cook. He was a graduate of Hudson High School and he loved playing chess and cards. He served his country in the US Navy from 1988 to 1990.

Cairo – Ann Neagle, 98, died June 12, 2006 in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. She was born to Charles and Annie (Kneiste) Lamm on Oct. 22, 1907 in Queens.
Anna married her best friend William on Feb. 12, 1930, and together they owned and operated the East Durham Motel in East Durham. She moved to Lake Havasu three years ago from East Durham. Anna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Anna is survived by her beloved family, daughters Anna Cahill of Lake Havasu and Audrey (Ted) Worden of Tarpon Springs, Fla; grandchildren Richard and Ronald Worden; great-grandchildren Erika, Bryan, Katie Shea, Megan Max and Gunner.
She was predeceased in death by her beloved husband, William Neagle.

Louis W. “Bud” Young

Greenville – Louis W. “Bud” Young, 83, died May 7, 2006.
He was born in New York City on April 14, 1923, son of the late Louis and Florence (Sjogren) Young.
Bud will always be remembered for his humor, honesty, hard work and friendliness.
He was a talented woodcarver and silversmith.
He loved to fish in Lake Powell, Rocky Point and San Carlos, where he caught a sailfish.
He was active in the Southern Arizona Homebuilders Association, Sertoma International and International Union of Operating Engineers.
Bud served in the US Navy during World War II as Motor Machinist Mate, First Class, on Destroyer, Escort USS LCI (G) 467, in the pacific and participated in the recapture of Guam (1944).
He was honorably discharged in November 1945 with several commendations.
After the war, he was a civilian crane operator for the US Army in Schenectady.
In 1952 he started an excavation and equipment rental business in Greenville, building dams and dredging lakes, including Lake Loree at Sunny Hill Resort.
In 1956 he moved to Tuscon and established Young and Deyo Excavating, which had a major impact on Tuscon’s skyline.
He demolished the Tusconan Hotel, site of the current Mall and Hotel, and dug missile silos in Mt. Lemon.
He pursued other entrepreneurial interests in developing new construction technologies.
In 1981, he created Young and Sons Contracting with sons Bryant and Michael Young, which remains a major excavating and contacting firm in Tucson.
Surviving is his wife of 43 years. Ann (Stall) Young; his children Deborah Hanson, Bryant, Michael and Cody Young; stepsons, Bill and Philip Blackerby; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Frances, “SiSi” Winnie; nephew, Kim Winnie; and brother-in-law, Alexander “Zan” Bryant.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Thelma (Bryant) Young; sons, Roger and Timothy Young; one grandchild; his brother-in-law, Harry Winnie; and nephew, Gary Winnie.
Memorial graveside services with military honors will be held Saturday, June 24, at 11am at the Greenville Cemetery.

Greenville – George A. Greer, 79, of Norton Hill, died suddenly on June 14 at his home.
He was born in Harrison, on Jan. 26, 1927 son of the late George and Josephine (Petras) Greer.
George served his country in the US Navy from 1945 to 1947 and 1948 to 1952, being discharged as a radioman second class. He had retired from Conrail and was a member of the Greenville American Legion Post 291 and the Greenville Christian Life Center.
Surviving are his wife Evelyn (Ohlson) Greer, a son Richard J. Greer, and his wife Laura, a daughter Annmarie Davis and her husband Donald, 11 grandchildren and three brothers, Leo, Albert and Stanley Greer.
Funeral services will be Sunday, 7pm at Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.

Catskill – Samuel Joseph Zinkow, 88, of Cementon, died Thursday, June 15, at Kaaterskill Skilled Nursing Care in Catskill where he had been a patient since Nov. 11, 2005.
Zinkow was born in Cementon on Aug. 21, 1917 to the late Samuel and Anna Gresko Zinkow.
He enlisted in the US Army on March 1, 1943, and served as a truck driver earning the rank of Sergeant as well as the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal prior to his discharge on Nov. 19 1945. He married the former Ida Maurizi on Oct. 5, 1941. He was employed as a welder with North American and Marquette Cement Companies. He was a former parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Cementon and past president of the Cementon Sportsman’s Club.
A prayer service will be held on Monday, June 19, at 11am in the Remembrance Chapel of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill with Father Albin Fusco, O.F.M., officiating.
Interment will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm.

Muneeruddin Mohammed, 29, of Abid Hyderabad, India died suddenly on June 9, 2006 at his family home. He was born in Hyderabad, India on May 15, 1977.
Muneeruddin was a dental technician and an avid athlete, enjoying cricket, swimming and soccer. He had recently moved back home to India from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to help run the family business.
He is survived by his parents, Akther and Jamaluddin Mohammed, brother Mujibuddin Mohammed, of India; sister, Meher Khan of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; and brother Minhajuddin Mohammed of Cairo, NY.

She moved to Catskill in 1962 and was the owner of Joe’s Mountain View Resort in Kiskatom for more than 35 years.
She was the wife of the late Vincent Avitto and Joseph Scafidi; mother of Frederick Avitto of Virginia Beach, Va.; Marie (Roland) Rousseau of Albany, Caesar Scafidi of Freeport, Olivia Scafidi of Albany and the late Joseph C. Mr Poyer was a graduate of Ithaca High School, Class of 1965. He also graduated from SUNY Farmingdale with a degree in poultry science.
He worked at ISA Babcock Breeders Inc. of Ithaca for 25 years. He was most recently employed at Sunrise Farms in Kiskatom.
He enjoyed motorcycle riding and was a former member of the Righteous Independents Motorcycle Club of Ithaca and the Agnostic Motorcycle Club of Trumansburg, Tompkins County.
Survivors include his wife, Diana L. Batsford Poyer of Catskill; two sons, Philip B. Poyer of Catskill and Robert D. Poyer and fiancé, Kim M. Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. – Dawn Marie Gockel Yungen, 40, formerly of Grand Gorge, Delaware County, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at San Antonio Hospital, Upland, Calif.
Born April 20, 1966 in Stamford, Delaware County, she was the daughter of Henry J. and the late Judy M. Gockel Mead.
She graduated in 1984 from Roxbury Central School in Roxbury, Delaware County, where a mural she painted remains on the wall. She attended Cazenovia College in Madison County. She moved to California in 1986 and has resided there since.
On Aug. 22, 1992, she married Robert Yungen from California. He survives her at home.
Mrs. Yungen was employed by Bloomington High School as a secretary.
She was a member of the Centerpoint Church in Colton, Calif. for the past 10 years and was very involved in many of their activities. She was also an avid hiker, jogger and recently participated in a 26-mile marathon. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved rescuing animals.
Survivors, in addition to her father and husband include two sons, Tyler Reed and Tristan Yungen of California; stepmother, Linda Gockel; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Brittanie Gockel of Grand Gorge, Holly and Tod Aplin of Prattsville and Joanne and Michael Clearly of Leeds; a brother, Hank Gockel of Grand Gorge; grandmothers, Mamie Gockel and Marion Mead of Grand Gorge; mother- and father-in-law, Dixie and Bert Yungen of Oregon; a sister-in-law, Nancy Headrick and her husband Bob; a brother-in-law, Dave Yungen and his wife Jackie and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and her best friend, Tandy Patrick.

Coxsackie – Barbara J. Barrett, 46, of 5 Apple Blossom Lane, West Coxsackie, died June 20, 2006, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, after a long battle with breast cancer.
She was born in Albany, Jan. 4, 1960, and was the daughter of Robert W. and Ann S. (Schumaker) Dagner of West Coxsackie.
Funeral services will take place Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 8pm at the W.C. Brady’s Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie with the Rev. Paul Peters, pastor of the First Reformed Church of West Coxsackie, officiating.
Private cremation will take place on Friday, June 23, 2006, at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.
Barbara was a lifetime resident of Coxsackie. She loved to shop, travel, jet ski, ride motorcycles and work with her husband at Barrett’s Auto Sales Unlimited, Route 9W, West Coxsackie, of which she was vice president.
She was very devoted to her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Edward L. Barrett of West Coxsackie; son, Chad M. Barrett of West Coxsackie and his fiancée Melissa Pena of Athens; sister, Mrs. Thomas (Debra) Rooney of Glenmont; mother-in-law, Judy Pinheiro of New Jersey; father-in-law, Robert C. Barrett Jr. of Cobleskill; and a niece, April M. Rooney of Glenmont.

Cairo – Virginia Patricia Pugliese, 70, of Porto Road, South Cairo, died Monday, June 10, 2006, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. She was born Aug. 25, 1935 in the Bronx, the daughter of the late George and Virginia (Harrison) McIsaac.
Virginia was an employee of Woolworth’s in Yonkers prior to her retirement. She had been a Greene County area resident since 2002. Virginia was predeceased by a brother, Robert McIsaac, in 1989.
Mrs. Pugliese is survived by her husband Frank A. Pugliese Sr. of South Cairo; three children, Donna M. Redahan, and husband John of Dutchess County; Frank A. Pugliese Jr. and wife Roxy of Mt. Vernon, Anthony P. Mrs. Barber was employed in the printing department at Universal Match Co. for more than 30 years.
She was a life member of the West Ghent Reformed Church; a member of the Red Hat Society; and a member of the Murray Clan Society of North America.
Mrs. Barber enjoyed knitting, crocheting and all crafts.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Gale and David Wolfe of Columbiaville; sister, Jean Emrick of Castleton; brother, John F. Murray Jr. of Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews.

Palenville – Elaine Maureen Garrigan, 76, of White Rod Extension, Palenville, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston.
She was born Feb. 2, 1930 in Newark, NJ, the daughter of the late John and Anna (Galambus) Garrigan.
Elaine served in the US Army and was a Korean War veteran. She was a Greene County Resident since 1955, and a Palenville resident since 2003.
Elaine was employed as an operating room technician at Greene County Memorial Hospital in Catskill for more than 25 years prior to her retirement.
She was predeceased by a brother, John Garrigan, and a sister, Maureen Garrigan-Klein.
Ms. Garrigan is survived by a sister-in-law, Ruth Garrigan of New Jersey; and several nieces, nephews and close friends.
There are no calling hours.

Red Hook – Ruth E. Rockefeller, 81, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. and a former longtime Clinton Corners resident, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at the Macclenny, Fla.
While living in Clinton Corners and raising her family Ruth was an active member and past vice president of the Clinton Republican Women’s Club.
She was born on March 16, 1925, in Berlin; she was the daughter of the late Percy and Alta (Moore) Gritmon.
Ruth married Clifford W. Rockefeller and he predeceased her on Jan. 21, 2001.
Survived by two sons: Rob Rockefeller of Greenwich, Conn., and William Rockefeller of Mcclenny, Fla.; three grandchildren: William, Michelle, and Michael Rockefeller, and three great grandchildren.

Linlithgo – Diane M. Zipp, 48, of Linlithgo died unexpectedly June 21, 2006 at her home.
Born Feb. 13, 1958 in Hudson, she was the daughter of Thomas and Marjorie Holdridge Wright of Greendale.
Mrs. Zipp was a 1976 graduate of Hudson High School, a graduate of Columbia-Greene Community College and the Empire State College State University of New York at Albany.
She had been employed for the last 17 years as a Plant Comptroller at the St. Lawrence Cement Plant in Catskill.
She was a loving mother who enjoyed her home and pool.
Mrs. Zipp was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Reformed Church of Greenport, President of the Heart of Catskill Association and past secretary of the Germantown Little League.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, is her husband Donald who she married July 23, 1977 in Greenport; two sons, Andrews of Albany and Michael of Linlithgo; brother, tom Wright of Hudson; maternal grandmother, Katrina Rote; aunt, Marsha Riccardo of Albany; and four nieces and nephews.

Irene was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Roderick Fisher on March 1, 1989; and a son, Robert Fisher on Nov. 14, 1998.
Irene was a volunteer for the Meals for Wheels Program.

Mrs. Unson was a telephone operator for many hospitals in the area, as well as in Ohio and New York. She was a Catholic, and a member of the Navy Wives Club. She loved all kinds of music, enjoyed travelling with her husband and crafting.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Unson of Pensacola; four sons and one daughter-in-law, Jeff, Terry and Claire, Kevin and David Frick; a stepdaughter, Joanne A. Coons of West Coxsackie; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was the wife of the late Lester Aldridge, who predeceased her on Dec. 1, 1985.
Locally she was a member of the Rip Van Winkle Senior Citizens, the Cairo and Athens Senior Fellowships, and the Athens Zion Lutheran Church.
She previously resided on Grandview Avenue in Catskill and had been living in Athens.

Lake Worth, Fla. – Carl “Gus” Gustavson, 85, died Friday, June 23, 2006.
Born June 11, 1921, in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Anna and Joseph Gustavson.
Mr. Gustavson was a master sergeant in the Army/Air Force during World War II.
He and his wife, Enid, were the proprietors of the Sunside Inn in Cairo before moving to Lake Worth in 1972.
Mr. Gustavson was a 57-year member of the American Legion and a long time member of the Elks.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 55 years, include two sons and a daughter-in-law, William and Claire Gustavson of East Durham and Gary Gustavson of Greenacres, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Elissa and David LaPerna of Lake Worth; and six grandchildren, Will, Amanda, Gary and Corrie Gustavson and Daniel and Carly LaPerna.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Arnold and Arthur; and a sister, Anna.

He was born in Athens on Nov. 14, 1989, the son of Ronald and Linda (Cook) Novak.
Justin attended Grapeville Christian School.
He was an avid outdoors person, and loved snowboarding, hunting, fishing, biking, soccer and paint balling. He was known as an excellent story teller and was a great poet. He was a former member of the 4H Club and enjoyed showing at the Greene County Youth Fair.
Surviving are his parents, Ronald and Linda Novak; two grandmothers, Valerie Novak of Massachusetts and Frances Patridge of East Durham; a sister, Karen Ford and her husband Charles II of Saratoga Springs; three brothers, James Novak of Catskill, Jonathan Novak and Jesse Novak of East Durham; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Edward Novak and Oliver Cook; and his stepfather Alfred Partridge.

Athens – Edward J. Hansen, Jr. 62, of Athens, formerly a lifelong resident of Rhinebeck, died Monday, June 26, 2006 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born July 15, 1043, in Elizabeth, NJ, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Clementine Guski Hansen, Sr.
He grew up in Rhinebeck and graduated from Rhinebeck High School.
Mr. Hansen served in the US Army during Vietnam.
On Jan. 14, 1973, in the Hillside Methodist Church in Rhinebeck, he married Barbara A. Hawley.
From 1966 until his retirement in 1992, he was a Field Engineer for IBM, first in Poughkeepsie, and later in Kingston. After his retirement he worked as a surveyor for Paggi & Martin in Poughkeepsie, and he worked at the Rhinebeck Savings Bank.
Mr. Hansen was a member of the Good Shepherd Church in Rhinebeck, a life member of both the Red Hook Post #7765 VFW and the Hillside Fire Company. He was also a member of the Montgomery Post #429 American Legion in Rhinebeck, and had been a 4H leader for four years, and was a past member of the Red Hook Antique Car Club.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Travis Hansen of Rhinebeck; a daughter and son-in-law Cynthia and Scott Rathjen Scott of Germantown, his son; Edward J. Hansen, III and his wife Staci of Poughkeepsie, a brother, Ronald Hansen and his wife Joyce of Elizaville, four grandchildren: Scott Rathjen, Corey Rathjen, Conner Rathjen, and Brittney Hansen; and a nephew: Sean Hansen of Elizaville.
A son, Christopher Hansen, and a sister, Eileen Hansen, predeceased him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00am on Saturday, July 1st, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Rhinebeck. The Rev. Jeffrey R. Galens of (as written) will officiate. Burial will be at Rhinebeck Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Home, 91 E. Market St., Rhinebeck, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The American Legion will hold services at 7:30pm.

Haines Falls – Mary T. Keegan, 77, died Monday, June 26, 2006, at Columbia memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Mary was a telephone operator at AT&T in New York for many years. She enjoyed her retirement in Haines Falls with her husband Edward, to whom she was married for 30 years.
She is survived by her husband, Edward; daughter, Sheila and son-in-law Kenneth; and son, Denton. She is also survived by four beautiful and loving grandchildren, Melissa Allison, Kevin and Julia, who gave her much love and happiness.
She is also survived by her sister, Breda, and her brother, Richard, in Ireland, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to all the health care workers at Columbia Memorial Hospital, especially all of the nurses who cared for her.
Calling hours will be at Aston-Balsagic Funeral Home, Hunter, on Thursday, June 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm.
Funeral Mass will be at Immaculate Conception Church, Haines Falls, on Friday, June 30, at noon. The Rev. John J. Murphy will be officiating.
Interment will follow at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery, Elka Park.

Coxsackie – E. Sara Schwab, 71, of 13 Warren Ave., West Coxsackie; died June 23, 2006, at her residence, after a long illness.
She was born in Coxsackie on June 5, 1935, the daughter of the late Henry and Emma (Craw) Schmitt.
Memorial services will take place July 8, 2006, at 10 am at the First United Methodist Church of Coxsackie.
Interment of her cremains will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Coxsackie.
Cremation took place Saturday, July (as written) 24, 2006 at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.
Sara was a lifelong resident of Coxsackie, a member and trustee of the First United Methodist Church of Coxsackie, and also loved gardening and floral arrangements. She was also an avid bird watcher and crocheted many afghans.
She is survived by her husband if 53 years Thomas R. Schwab of West Coxsackie; a daughter, Terry Schwab of Florida; four sisters, Ruth Weick of New York City, Ann Scalzo of Ravena, Bobsey Roberg of Coxsackie and Helen Lowery of Oswego; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Henry Schmitt.
Prior to her retirement, she was a bookkeeper for the Carter Foundry in Coxsackie.

Richard Stott Anderson

Athens – Richard Stott Anderson of “Athens on the Hudson” made his transition on June 26, 2006 while at his Athens home “Longvue” surrounded by his beloved cats, friends and gardens.
Born in Milton, son of the late Stott and Grace Anderson, he was a lifetime student of learning.
Richard’s career as a designer took him to New York City, Albany and Troy. Retired at age 50, Richard vigorously pursued his passion for garden design, gardening, literature and decorative arts.
Richard was a 1983 graduate of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardener’s program and instrumental in the restoration of many well known gardens such as those of Ten Broeck Mansion and the Albany Institute of History and Arts as well as many private gardens.
At his Albany home, Richard conceived and created “The Lark Street Gardens,” a published garden “that upon entering the garden, one’s initial response is of wonderful (as written) that such a verdant, country like space could exist hidden behind six townhouses in downtown Albany.”
Richard frequently opened his gardens and homes for public enjoyment, pleasure and charitable fund raisers. Photos of his gardens appeared in many garden study articles and the Charlotte M. Frieze. Well known for his generosity, tireless energy and mentorship are but a few facts of his legacy.
Richard is survived by his sisters Edith Anderson Mayse, Joanne Anderson Swanson, Louise Anderson Levy, brother, Frederick; and close friends, Susan and John Meunier, Gregory Hurd, Larry Stanley, Charles Houghton and Murial Cooke.
Friends and relatives are invited to Richards Funeral Home, 28 North Vernon Street, Athens at 2pm on July 1, 2006.

Ruth J. Cimorelli

Catskill – Ruth J. Cimorelli, 91, of Largo, Fla., formerly of Cairo Junction Road, died Tuesday, June 27 at her residence following a long illness.
Mrs. Cimorelli was born in Leeds on Oct. 6, 1914 to the late Joseph and Minnie Froemchen Bellens. She was the wife of the late Robert J. Cimorelli, who predeceased her on Oct. 24, 1966. Following his death and the subsequent sale of the family’s bicycle/appliance store on Main St. in Catskill, she moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., where she was the bookkeeper for a BOCES school. She retired to Largo, Fla., where she had since resided.
A prayer service will be held on Saturday, July 1, at 1pm at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights with the Rev. James E. Clark, pastor of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday at noon prior to the service.
Cimorelli is survived by six nieces including Barbara Bellens-Picon of Westbury, Susan J. Finlayson of Clifton Park, Michele Whitman-Perez of Montgomery, Susan Whitman of Denver, Colo., and Kyla Finlayson of Clifton Park.
She was predeceased by her brother, Harold J. Bellens on June 17, 1972, her sister Mildred Vandriesco, and her uncle Louis Bellens.

Jaap Penraat
Helped 400 Jews escape from the Netherlands
Catskill – Jaap Penraat, the Dutch architect and a long-time resident of Catskill, died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at his home on Vedder Mountain Road. He was 88 years old and had been seriously ill for the past month and a half with a recently diagnosed cancer of the esophagus.
Jaap Penraat was born in 1918 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where he grew up, attended the Art Academy, and worked until he immigrated to the United States in 1958 with his wife Jettie Penraat and their family.
He was trained as an industrial designer and architect and practiced both with great success both in Europe and America.
He received the Yad Vashem Award from the Israeli Government for his rescue work during World War II, at which time he helped more than 400 young Jewish men escape from the Netherlands into France, where he led them to French Resistance workers.
He is survived by three daughters, Marjolijn de Jager, Mir Lewis, and Noelle Penraat, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Cremation was under the direction of Cremation Funeral Services, Delmar.

Margaretville – Ruth Simmons, 83, of Spruceton, died June 27, 2006 at the Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.
She was born on Oct. 9, 1922, the daughter of Marshall and Eva Storey.
She was predeceased by her son, George, and husband, Edmund.
She is survived by her son, Kevin, and his wife, Debbie; grandchildren, Christine, Kevin Jr., Amy, Edmund, Cory and Ashley.
She worked as a cook for many years at the Tumbleweed Ranch and the Sunshine Valley House, both in Spruceton.
Calling hours will be on Friday, June 30, 2006, at Decker Funeral Home, Windham, from 11 to 1pm. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home following calling hours at 1pm.
Interment will follow at the Westkill Cemetery in Westkill.
