SUZANNE E. MULLER
Beloved wife and mother

WHITING, N.J. ---Suzanne E. Muller, 98 of Whiting, N.J. died June 27, 2005 at the Whiting Health Care Center.

Born in Hungary, she resided at the Crestwood Village II section of Whiting, N.J. Formerly, of the Bronx initially, then of Palisades Park for many years before moving to Catskill, finally moving to Whiting three years ago..

She was the owner and operator of Muller’s Jem Hotel for 10 years, retiring in 1973.

She was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Palisades Park for many years and more recently she was active on the bowling team of Crestwood village II. She was originally a seamstress by trade.

Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Muller of Whiting, NJ, daughter, Eleanor Kerstanski of Barnegat of NJ, granddaughter, Karen Tuzio of Rockaway, NJ, grandson, Scott Taylor of Warwick, NJ and grandchildren, Lindsey, Ryan, Kelli and Danielle.

Calling hours will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. today at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home in Whiting, NJ.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Catskill Rural Cemetery.

LEEDS---Evalyn M. Thomas, 50, of County Route 67, Leeds, died suddenly Sunday, June 26, 2005, from injuries sustained in an ATV accident.

Born Feb. 25, 1955 in Rahway, NJ she was the daughter of Gloria (Bestwinck) O’Neil of Leeds and the late Robert E. LeBlanc.

Survivors include three sons, Michael J. Kelly of Redmond, Ore., Robert D. Kelly of Fairbanks, Alaska and Christopher Sean Kelly of Seward, Alaska; and a close friend and companion, Marvin Teft of Leeds.

Private cremation will be performed at Park View Cemetery in Schenectady.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, Catskill.

Coxsackie---Diana E. Musial of Coxsackie, died Thursday June 30, 2005 after a brief illness.

Born in Bloomfield, NJ, Nov. 2, 1929, Diana attended Newark State Teachers College (Kean), graduating in 1951 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught for several years in the Bloomfield Elementary School District and married Joseph T. Musial, executive president of Ironbound Steel Construction Co., of Newark, NJ, on Dec. 26, 1953. As a family they lived in Scotch Plains, NJ. In 1965, the family moved to the Catskill region overlooking the Hudson River in Coxsackie.

Diana continued her elementary education career teaching second grade in the Coxsackie-Athens School District from 1967 to her retirement in 1991. Her retirement opened the opportunity to explore her artistic talent. Her paintings were watercolors of seascapes and landscapes.

Diana was a participant in the choir of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and also taught Sunday school.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph T. Musial; a son, Steven T. Musial; twin daughters, Donnie M. Hallak and Susan J. Musial; and grandchildren, Mary, Stephanie, Nathaniel and Christopher G. Musial, and David R. Pinkham.

She was predeceased by a son, Gregory J. Musial.

Calling hours are Tuesday, July 5, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the W.C. Brady and Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church of Coxsackie.

Interment will follow in the family plot of the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hanover, NJ.

GLENFORD---Pasquale S. “Pop” Torchia, 84, formerly of Stockport and Hudson, died July 2, 2005, at Kingston Hospital.

Born April 8, 1921 in Stockport, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Buffa Torchia.

Mr. Torchia was raised in Stockport and the moved to Hudson. He most recently lived with his daughter in Glenford, Ulster County.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Torchia served on the USS Minneapolis in the Pacific Theater of Operations.

For many years he worked as the head sprayer at LB Furniture Industries. In the early 1970s he moved to Poughkeepsie and worked as head custodian for the Franklin Elementary School, Poughkeepsie, before retiring in 1981.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Theodore Van Dyke of Glenford, Lee Ann and Sterling Scism of Cairo, and Kathy and Johnny Cassera of Stockport; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Kelly Torchia of Quarryville; two sisters Rose Surrano and Lena Schufelt, both of Hudson; two brothers Frank Torchia of Hudson and Joseph Torchia of Albany; nine grandchildren Leona Myers, Timothy and Marsha Bain, Neil and Noel Scism, Maria and Jonathon Torchia, Faith Van Dyke and Candice London; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle Leona Felter Torchia, on Sept. 29, 1997; and three brothers, Anthony, Thomas and Ralph Torchia.

Calling hours will be conducted noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Living Word Chapel, Route 28A, West Hurley, Ulster County, 845-338-9305.

Services will follow at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.

Cremation will be private.

CATSKILL---Marie Fabik Anable, 87, of Catskill, died Thursday evening June 30, 2005 at Kingston City Hospital where she had been a patient for the past week.

She was born Jan. 13, 1918, to the late Nicholas and Genevieve Sasso Cornelius.

She was a graduate of St. Patrick’s Academy, employed as an accountant for Baumann’s Auto Sales in Hudson and retired from Berzal’s Chevrolet in Catskill.

Mrs. Anable was a member of the Catskill Democratic Committee and served as a volunteer for the Green County Board of Elections for many years.

She was a faithful parishioner of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church and enjoyed bowling for recreation. In February 2003 she moved to the Family Lodge Senior Residence in Saugerties from her home for many years at 205 Main St. in Catskill.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Georgianna) Pangburn of Kingston; two granddaughters: Mrs. Joseph (Dawn) Samperisi of Catskill and Mrs. Randy (Terry) Spiesman of Hurley; great-grandson, Nathan Clapper Spiesman of Hurley; three sisters: Diana Kreag of Allentown, PA., Regina DeLuca of Catskill and Anna Passaretti of Albany; brother, Leo P. Cornelius of Palm City, Fla.; many nieces and nephews; two stepsons, Martin Anable of Glen Falls and Thomas Anable of Virginia; eight step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; her dear friends including Evelyn Neher of the Family Lodge Senior Residence.

Mr. Anable was predeceased by two husbands, William George “Jerry” Fabik, former owner of Fabik’s Luncheonette of West Bridge St. on Jan. 31, 1978 and Henry “Hank” Anable on Feb. 26, 1988; one brother, Dominic Cornelius on Jan. 9, 2003.

Calling hours were 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. prior to the funeral mass at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

HUNTER---Robert J. Borrelli (Uncle Bob), 84, of Hunter, died Friday, July 1, 2005 at this residence.

He was born April 11, 1921 in Harrison, N.Y.; son of the late Maria Francesca and Gaetano Borrelli.

Mr. Borrelli was proud veteran of Word War II. He was employed as a construction foreman for I & O Slutsky until his retirement.

Known to many as Uncle Bob or bob, he captured the essence of life until the end. He was an avid reader, nature lover and nightclub dancer where his friends referred to him as “Dancing Bob”.

Survivors include his sons, Robert and his wife Sandy of Ravena, Roger of Stanford, Conn., and Joel and his wife Trisha of Hunter; his daughter, Rebecca Balesh of Haines Falls; and five grandchildren, Carla, Rana, Jennifer, Matthew and Luke.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5 and Wednesday, July 6 at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, 7742 Main St., Hunter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005 at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Haines Falls.

HUNTER---Donald G. Goodrich, 49, of Hunter, died Sunday, July 3, 2005 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Born Oct. 4, 1955 in Catskill, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Betty Hapeman Goodrich.

He was successful business owner and an active member of the Hunter Fire Co. and former chief.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn; children, Shaine Mark and Adam Richard, and Crystal Lynn Goodrich; granddaughter, Kaytlynn Victoria Goodrich; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Friday 7 to 9 p.m. at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, 7742 Main St., Hunter.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be the Rev. Karen Monk.

Interment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery in South Jewett.

ASHLAND---Ralph E. Grant, 65, of Ashland, formerly of Cairo, died Sunday, July 3, 2005 in Greenville.

He was loved dearly by all who knew him and will be sorely missed.

Survivors include daughters, Jennifer and Linda; brothers, Billy and Pat; as well as many nieces and nephews of the Hoyt, Tedesco and Lombardi families.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main St., Windham.

A service will be held at the funeral home Thursday, 8 p.m., with the Rev. James Schiffer presiding.

A private cremation will follow on Friday at the Albany Memorial Crematory.

TUCSON, ARIZ. ---Leon Blaine Jeune, 85, of Tucson, died June 27, 2005.

Born May 20, 1920, he was the son of Leon and Louise (Young) Jeune of Catskill.

Mr. Jeune spent 22 years in the U.S. Army, a World War II veteran, served in China, Burma, India Organization in Tucson, and a member of the VFW and Legionnaire Club of Lincoln, NE. He did tours of duty in England for three years and in Germany for four years before retiring in 1966 in Lincoln, NE. He then worked for the state of Nebraska Department of Corrections State Penitentiary as the food service director until retiring Nov. 27, 1984 and then moved to Tucson, AZ where he retired. He was a great family man and loved sports of all kinds especially bowling, golf and following NE football and the New York Yankees. He was artistically creative in culinary arts and could overhaul a car as well. He was a man of many talents.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Betty R. (Daucher) Jeune of Tucson, AZ.; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert L. Jeune of Phoenix, AZ., Gary C. and Kathy M. Jeune of Lincoln, NE: daughters and sons-in-law, Sheryn E. and Roger A. Leonard of Omaha, NE, Cindy R. and Clyde R. Hill of Kimberling City, MO; seven grandchildren and spouses, Christopher R. Jeune of Denver, Kari M. Jeune of Lincoln, NE, Dustin E. Jeune of Lincoln, NE, Renee E. and Keith A. Froscheiser of Omaha, NE, Nicole M. and Cary L. Kallhoff of Omaha, NE, Kimberly R. and Christopher M. Moppin of Platte City, MO, Kelly A. and Shawn P. Clarkson of Platte City, MO; nine great-grandchildren, Adriana E., Seth A. and Christian A. Funeral service was July 6, 2005 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14^th St., Lincoln, NE.

Interment was at the Lincoln Memorial Park.

CATSKILL--- Arthur Arnold Maxwell Sr., 87, of Binghamton, N.Y. passed away, July 3, 2005 at Columbia Greene Long Term Care, Catskill, where he had been a patient since June 14, 2005.

He was born March 26, 1918 in Coxsackie, and was the son of the late Orville and Ruth (Brandow) Maxwell.

Mr. Maxwell served his country in the United States Army during World War II receiving the Victory Medal. He lived in Greenville for most of his life, moved to Binghamton 45 years ago.

He was employed as a construction worker for many years.

Survivors include her two daughters Bessie M. Vincent of Leeds, and Ruth W. White of Cairo, a son, Arthur W. Maxwell of Westkill, grandchildren, Brenda Wase, Dawn White, Roger Vincent, Rebecca Smith, Edna Crewell, Edward Maxwell, Timothy Rivenburg, Lois Rodriguez, Richard Rivenburg, Maria McCuster, Steven Woodbeck, a step-daughter, Patricia Spry of Binghamton and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Maxwell was predeceased by his first wife Edna Mae Perry who died in 1998 and his second wife, Louise Gustinger, who died in December 2004, a stepchild, Louis Gustinger, three brothers, Ernest, Harold, and Gordon, and his sister Evelyn, and a grandson, Arthur Maxwell.

Private cremation took place at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.

Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at the Cairo Cemetery.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Richards Funeral home, Bross St., Cairo.

PALENVILLE--- Edward M. Roberts, 73, died at his home in Palenville, Monday, July 4, 2005 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born April 6, 1932 in Schenectady, he was the son of the late George and Kathryn Roberts.

Mr. Roberts served his country in the US Marine Corp and attended Rutgers University on the GI Bill. He moved to Palenville in 1962 with his family. He retired as supervisor of Greene County Building and Grounds in 1995. He was a Boy Scout leader and Little League coach for boys of Palenville in the 1960s. He was a member of the American Legion, a life member and former commissioner of the Palenville Fire Dept. and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. He was loved dearly by all who knew him and will be remembered always for his kind and gracious heart.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Roberts; children, Michael and Linda Ruthman Roberts, Patricia Roberts Harvey and her husband Gary Harvey; grandchildren Liam and Lila Roberts, Ian, Clare and Simone Felice, Amanda Harvey Kogut and her husband Jon; sister, Cynthia Roberts; brothers, Keith Roberts and wife Fan; Paul Roberts and his Mary Esther; George and his wife Mary Jane; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Roberts donated his body to the Anatomical Program at Albany Medical College.

A Private ceremony will be held at a future date.

CATSKILL---- James E. McDonald, 51, of Catskill, formerly of Germantown, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 3, 1952 in Hudson, he was the son of the late William E. and Mona K. (MacDonald).

He was a graduate of Germantown Central School.

Prior to being disabled he was a carpenter on construction in the State of Florida.

Mr. McDonald enjoyed working with wood and making birdhouses.

Survivors include his companion Colleen Holloway of Athens, a son, Jason of Palenville, four brothers, Joseph of Virginia Beach, Donald of Colorado, Phillip of Dripping Springs, Texas, Shane of Germantown; four sisters, Janet McDonald of Germantown, Elizabeth McDonald of Los Angeles, Mary L. Clark of West Coxsackie, Monica McDonald of Albany and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. McDonald was predeceased by two brothers, William and George and two sisters, Kimley and Sharon.

Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2005, at the Church of the Resurrection of Germantown where the Rev. Theodore Gerken will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial.

There will be no calling hours.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the Valley View Cemetery of Germantown.

Arrangements are with the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home of Germantown.

ATHENS--- Gerard A. (Baron) Spencer, 86, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at the Samuel S. Stratton Veterans Administration Medical Center Hospital in Albany.

He was born July 14, 1918 in Forrest Hills, L.I. And was the son of the late William and Mary Louise (O’Hara) Spencer.

Mr. Spencer moved to Athens as a child. He served at West Point from 1939-1941. He is a lifelong member of the American Legion, a long standing member of the Elks Club and also a member of the Elks Club and also a member of the Purling Rod and Gun Club, also a member of the Athens Fire Department as a volunteer from 1957 to 1959 was a Fire Chief.

He was employed at Grumman-Aerobilt as a welder for most of his adult life. He was devout communicant of St. Patrick’s Parish in Athens.

In his youth, he spent a lot of time on the river. He worked on tour boats out of New York City to Bear Mountain. He loved the water and was an excellent swimmer. His historical knowledge of the Hudson River was outstanding.

During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, stationed at West Point from 1939-1945. While there he had the honor of serving as Hoover Guard for Franklin D. Roosevelt’s funeral.

He learned his professional trade as welder at Grumman-Aerobilt Plant in West Athens, where he became head of the welding department and took his retirement from there.

He was a well known personality in Greene County having tended bar at the Catskill Country Club, Reds in West Coxsackie, and the Athens Hotel. He has a great sense of humor and was very outgoing. Also being community-minded, he was very active in the Legion and the Fire Company and organized parades.

Survivors include his daughters, Suzanne Spencer Lava of Loudonville, and Mary Louise Lawson of Myrtle Beach, his companion Ms. Gladys Andrus of Coxsackie, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Spencer is predeceased by his brother, William Jr., Charles and daughter Eileen Frances Roberts.

Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday from the Richards Funeral Home, 28 n Vernon St., Athens.

Funeral services will take place 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Fr. J. Murphy, Pastor of the St. Patrick’s Church, Catskill officiating.

Interment will follow in the family plot of St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Catskill.

COXSACKIE--- Andrew Daniel Turnier, 50, of the Village of Coxsackie, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at his residence.

He was born in Catskill on Sept. 5, 1954, son of the late Andrew and Josephine (Medwid) Turnier.

A life long area resident, he was an auto body mechanic employed by various automotive companies in the area.

Survivors include his three sisters: Doris and her husband, Thomas Brennan of Binghamton, N.Y.; Elaine Turnier of Catskill and Rose of her husband Lew Hall of Myrtle Beach and an aunt in Austria.

Memorial services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Sopris-Murray Funeral Home, 11877 Route 9W, West Coxsackie. Rev. Phyllis Skidmore will officiate.

There will be no calling hours.

Interment will be at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Coxsackie.

COLUMBUS, NJ--- Nettie B. Hitchcock, 76 of Columbus, NJ, died at home on Sunday, July 3, 2005.

She was born in Kingston and lived in Allentown, NJ, for many years before moving to Columbus two years ago.

She was a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and loved spending time with her family.

Nettie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert Hitchcock; three children and spouses, Cynthia and Brian Bricker of Columbus, Oh., Bob and Robin Hitchcock of Levittown, Pa., and Donna and Craig Stier of Cranbury, N.J.; nine grandchildren, Rob, Michael, and Diana Blakeman; Jared, Jordan, Jessie and Jamie Hitchcock; Severine and Isabella Stier; a great-granddaughter Kylah; and her brother, Charles Benton and his wife Judy.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St., Allentown, NJ 08501. Interment followed in Bordentown Cemetery.

CATSKILL--- John P. Iapichino, Sr., 81, of Route 385, Catskill, died Friday, July 8, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born July 30, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Ralph and Beatrice (Impellizeri) Iapichino.

John served in the United States Navy during World War II. He lived in Poughkeepsie prior to meeting his wife Victoria and moved back to Brooklyn.

In 1959, John moved his family to Hudson, where he owned and operated John’s Fish Market in Catskill and Hudson. In 1966 John moved to Catskill. He later was an employee of Lehigh Cement Company prior to his retirement in 1984.

John was a Communicant at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church in Catskill. He was a member of Catskill Elks Lodge 1341. He enjoyed playing cards with “The Boys” of the Catskill Elks Lodge and supporting Bingo efforts on Wednesday evenings.

John was predeceased by his wife Victoria (Maglio) Iapichino on Feb. 1, 2004.

He is survived by his two daughters, Rosemary Bertelle and husband Ralph of Leeds, and Christine Geigner and husband George of Germantown; a son, John P. Iapichino, Jr. and wife Lynne of Athens; four grandchildren, Stephanie Bink and husband Delville of Leeds; Jack Bertelle and wife Michelle of Leeds; Evan Iapichino and Jared Iapichino, both of Athens; great-granddaughter Rachel Victoria Bink of Leeds; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

MARION J. MURPHY

WEST PALM BEACH--- Marion J. Murphy, 86, formerly of West Bridge Street, Catskill, died peacefully in West Palm Beach, FL. on May 27, 2005 surrounded by her family.

Marion was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Catskill, a secular Franciscan (St. Andrews Friary) for 48 years and a Catholic Daughter of America for 30 years. She also was a volunteer at Eden Park for many years.

Survivor’s include her husband, William; three sons: William of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Jerome of San Ramon, California, and Gerard of West Roxbury, Mass.; three daughters: Sister Mary, OSF, of Miami, Florida, Sheila of Wellington, Florida and Colleen of Greensboro, North Carolina; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at a future date.

HUDSON--- Margaret A. (Finn) Hotaling, 64, died Saturday, July 9, 2005 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Born July 28, 1940 in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna (Marico) Finn.

She was employed for 35 years at Columbia County Probation Department where she worked as a secretary.

Mrs. Hotaling was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Hudson. She was also a former member of the Hudson Elks 787 Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Steven W. Hotaling Sr. of Hudson, a son, Steven W. Hotaling Jr. and his wife Donna Hotaling of Valatie; a daughter Kimberly M. Hotaling of Hudson, three grandsons: Brandon Hotaling of Valatie, Michael Burke of Hudson and Steven Burke of Vermont; one great-grandson Michael Burke Jr. of Hudson; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hotaling was predeceased by two sisters, Carmella Rockwell and Philomena (Chickie) Nuendal.

Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Valenti and Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Hudson.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Holy Family Church in Stottville, with the Rev. Father Frank O’Connor officiating.

Interment will be in the Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson.

WEST COXSACKIE---Beverly R. (McCauley) Miner, 65, died Saturday, July 9, 2005 at Eden Park Health Care Center in Catskill.

Born in St. Joseph, MO., she graduated from Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School.

She resided in West Coxsackie since 1970. She was a member of the Assembly of God, the New Baltimore American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Earlton Fish and Game Club.

She enjoyed sports and outdoor activities.

Beverly was a devoted wife of the late John H. Miner Sr.; loving mother of Denise Wilsey of West Coxsackie; John H. Miner Jr. (Charlene) of Catskill and the late Debora Ann Miner; proud grandmother of Kyle, Ryan and Megan Wilsey; loving daughter of Cleata Beers of Millerton; loving sister of Opal Rosas of Millerton, Catherine Auclaire of South Carolina and Samuel McCauley of Maine; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be conducted 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Alcove Assembly of God Church, County Route 111.

Funeral services will be conducted 11a.m. Wednesday at the church with Pastor Frank Florenz officiating.

Interment will be conducted in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore.

CATSKILL--- Raymond A. Webber, 80, of 93 North St., Catskill, died suddenly Sunday, July 10, 2005 at home. Born Feb. 3, 1921 in Athens, he was the son of the late Chester and Ethel (Garrison) Webber.

Mr. Webber was a graduate of St. Patrick’s Academy in Catskill. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was wounded in combat and was awarded a Purple Heart Medal. He later worked for Albany Memorial Hospital as an x-ray technician for 30 years prior to his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s R.C. Church in Catskill. He was a member of Honeyford Memorial Post Mp. 110 and Sullivan Teator VFW Post # 770.

Survivors include a brother, Charles O. Webber and several cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, James L. Webber on Sept. 28, 1960.

Calling hours are Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. John J. Murphy will be officiating.

He was born in Hudson on March 2, 1996, son of Glenn E. Beechert and Kathleen (Perez) Beechert.

Brandon was a student at Langdon School.

He was “Heaven’s special child, an angel among us.”

Survivors include his mother Kathleen Beechert of Catskill; his father Glenn Beechert of Maplecrest, two brothers, Daniel J. and Andrew J. Verga of Catskill; a sister, Elizabeth N. Beechert of Maplecrest, his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

WESTERLO--- Robert D. Hannay, 64, of Westerlo died Monday, July 11, 2005 at his home following a brief illness.

Born in Westerlo, April 10, 1941, he was the son of the late Dwight C. Hannay and surviving mother, Doris E. (Velle) Hannay.

Mr. Hannay spent most of his life in Westerlo. He married on June 29, 1963 to Marilyn J. (Stark) Hannay. He spent six years serving in the US Army National Guard. He was a member of the Westerlo Volunteer Fire Department, president of the Westerlo Rural Cemetery Board, Helderberg Medical Association Board Member and lifetime member of the NRA. A 1963 graduate of Philadelphia Biblical University, he worked as vice president of marketing at Hannay Reels from 1963 to 1996. He served as a deacon, trustee, Sunday school superintendent and leader of youth activities for many years at the first Baptist Church of Westerlo.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn J. Hannay; children, Scott R. Hannay and wife Beverly, Sherri L. (Hannay) Gerhardt and husband Stephen of Grand Ledge, MI, Shaun R. Hannay and wife Diane of Westerlo and Michael D. Hannay and wife Gayle, also of Westerlo; eight grandchildren; sister, Carol (Hannay) Gullzon and husband David of Westerlo; and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by one grandson.

A memorial service will take place Friday, 7 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Westerlo.

Interment will take place at the Westerlo Rural Cemetery.

PRATTSVILLE--- Frederick Kelsey, 69, of Prattsville, died Sunday, July 10, 2005 at his residence.

He was born in Waterford, Conn., April 25, 1936 to Edwin and Violet Pearl (Chapman) Kelsey.

Mr. Kelsey was a master mechanic, working on heavy equipment. He worked for many years at Briggs Equipment in Prattsville, before opening his own shop, Kelsey’s Garage in Prattsville. He was an original member of the “Mustangs” country band, playing his fender guitar. He also played with various bands from time to time.

Survivors include sons, Fred and Roy both of Old Lyme, Conn., and his daughter, Darlene Mattice of Prattsville, a sister, Sandra Halverson, three grandchildren, one niece, four nephews and his longtime companion Peggy Stanton.

Mr. Kelsey was predeceased by his parents and brother, Edwin.

Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Windham.

A funeral service will be conducted 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Elliot Oaks officiating.

YORK, MAINE--- Angelo T. Manzi, 91, formerly of New Boston Rd., Maine died Saturday, July 9, 2005 at Mark Wentworth Home in Portsmouth.

Born in Bronx, NY, Jan.1, 1914, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lucy (Lanotti) Manzi.

He lived within shouting distance of Yankee stadium and was a graduate of Annunciation Parochial School in Manhattan. He built his first house in Greenville and lived there for 50 years with his wife Florence before moving to York in 1999 to be closer to his sons. He enjoyed fishing and when he was younger was an avid baseball player and a fan. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the early 1930’s. He worked as mechanic for 30 years for Bob Martin Foreign Auto, Capitol Buick and Yeoman’s Garage. He retired as supervisor of the service and auto body department of Orange Motors of Albany in 1981.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Debora Manzi of Cape Neddick and Thomas and Suzanne Manzi of York; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Florence (Schnackberg) Manzi who died in October 2004; and a son, Joseph John Manzi who died in 1987.

Funeral arrangements will be private and are under the direction of the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home of York, Maine.

GREENVILLE--- Eileen Ida (Trabin) Snow, 85, of Greenville, died Monday, July 11, 2005 at the Albany Medical Center, Albany.

Born Feb. 20, 1920 in Yonkers, she was the daughter of the late Paul Tarabini and Ella (Downey) Trabin.

She lived in Earlton from 1961 to 1979. She and her late husband developed and operated the Earlton Hill Campsites. She has lived in Greenville in recent years.

Survivors include two sons, Richard N. Snow and his wife Marilyn of Greenville, William D. Snow and his wife Patricia of Hannacroix; a daughter, Karen and husband Ramiro Sifuentes of Arizona; four grandchildren, Jeff Snow of Greenville, Kevin Snow of Virginia, Heather Ferrara of St. Johnsville, and Mark Ferrara of Sprakers; and nine great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m. at the W.C. Brady’s Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie.

GREENVILLE--- Wilmer H. Smart, 86 of Greenville, died July 10, 2005 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.

He was born Nov. 21, 1918 in Fletcher, Vt., to Carl S. Start and Alma (Driscoll) Start.

Mr. Start was a farmer working at various farms throughout his lifetime.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife Debra (Matthews) Start, children, Dolores, Marion, Bobby, Kathleen, Carl, Glenda, Audrey and Gregory, step-brother, Rodney, stepsisters Juanita and Lynn, 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Born in Catskill, she was the daughter of Teresa and Harold Miller.

Lucy attended school at St. Patrick’s Academy. Through thick and thin, she always kept her sense of humor and quick wit. She was the tie that bound her family together and her spirit will continue to give her family strength.

She is survived by her devoted husband Joe; two sons, Alfred and Ronnie Horacek; two daughters-in-law, Karla and Sharon; five grandchildren; a brother, William Miller; and a sister, Theresa Brockway.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Margaret Carney, Mary Macarelli and Anna Dederick; a brother, Pasquale Miller; and a daughter, Janet.

Memorial services were held June 24, 2005 in California.

AU SABLE FORKS --- Raymond J. Weiss, 72, of Au Sable Forks, died Monday, July 11, 2005 at CV-PH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born Feb. 18, 1933, in Queens, the son of the late Charles J. and Rose Lenhardt Weiss.

He retired as a maintenance worker for the New York State Department of Corrections in Coxsackie.

Mr. Weiss served in the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 504 of Au Sable Forks.

He resided in Silver Lake for more than 25 years.

Survivors include his one son and daughter-in-law Ray and Alicia Weiss of Cairo, a beloved companion Sue Terry of Silver Lake, a sister-in-law, Delores Weiss of Palenville, two grandchildren Logan Weiss and Colin Weiss of Cairo, three step-children, Mike, Kim and Hope Beatty.

Mr. Weiss was predeceased by Charlie Weiss and Adeale Englehardt and also his wife, Sandra J. Weiss.

ENDICOTT --- Dennis E. Wisnoski, 51, of Endicott, died Sunday, June 12, 2005, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania.

Born June 24, 1953 in Utica, he was the son of John J. and Shirley (Way) Wisnoski.

Mr. Wisnoski graduated from Sauquoit Valley High School in 1971 and thereafter from Herkimer County Community College and SUNY Oswego with a Masters Degree in Radio and TV Broadcasting.

For a time, he was a DJ at WOUR radio station in Utica, playing a classic rock format.

He had a lifelong passion for railroad trains, lived in Lake Placid, NY for a number of years and worked as an engineer on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad. In addition, he devoted many, many volunteer hours to the Scenic Railroad to insure its resurrection and success.

He was also an accomplished bowler, having bowled perfect 300 game a few years ago.

He was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks (Ilion Lodge No. 1444). The most important of his accomplishments, however, was that he was a caring, loving, and humor filled brother and uncle.

Most recently he was employed by PAR in New Hartford as a technical computer software contractor. Dennis loved his work as technical contractor because it often required him to travel, and traveling was another of his lifelong passions.

Dennis is survived by his sisters, Rhonda Rima of Center Moriches, LI, NY, and Kristen Dusenbery of Leeds, NY; as well as by two nieces, Joelle and Tiffany Rima; and one nephew, Bryce Dusenbery of Hudson.

He is also survived by his former wife, Laurie (Herbert) to whom he was married from 187 to 2003.

He was predeceased by his niece, Erin Dusenbery.

A memorial service on the Adirondack Scenic Train will be held at a later date.

She was a long time resident of Lanesville, where she and her husband raised their eight children

Her family and her faith were paramount to her. She spent her time reading Christian books and was talented at canning and preserving food to provide for her children.

Surviving are her children, Janet Volker of Platte Clove, Debra Benjamin and Carol Benjamin of Hunter, Bonnie Benjamin of Mt. PRATTSVILLE--- Franklin “Nick’ Nickerson, 81, of Prattsville, died at his home Thursday, July 14, 2005.

He was born May 6, 1924, the son of Floyd and Grace Nickerson.

Nick lived in the area all his life and in Prattsville since 1949.

He attended Gilboa Central School and worked mornings before school and evenings after sports. He especially enjoyed basketball.

Nick left school to join the Army during World War II. He fought in North Africa, Italy and the European Theater.

After the war, Nick married Bernice Hill, his wife who passed away in 1996.

Nick drove truck for Moore’s Trucking and Carmen Trucking until he bought his own trucks and became an owner-operator. He owned a fleet of trucks hauling for Greendell Packing. He later drove for Trans American Freight Lines, and frequently drove to Kansas City, Dallas and Fort Worth, as well as numerous other stops in other cities.

Nick enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and had a love for his pets and working on anything that had an engine that he could repair or tinker with. He was always ready and willing to give someone a helping hand.

He was predeceased by his brother Floyd (Junior) Nickerson and sister Audrey Raeder.

He is survived by a son, Lonnie Nickerson, daughter Linda Cross, and Edwin Brainerd, Jr. of Ashland; five grandchildren, Michelle Caiazza of Stamford, Tracy Fraleigh of Summit, Mary-Jo Nickerson of Albany, Michael Cross of Grand Gorge, and Rosanne Cross of Prattsville; and eight great-grandchildren; plus sisters, Evelyn Brainerd of Prattsville, Helena Wiley of Victor, Golda Jones of Leeds, and Frances Hull of Highland; and several nieces and nephews.

GREENBRAE, Calif. --- Gillian Esther Rem, 49, passed away in Greenbrae, Calif., at home on July 5, 2005.

Gillian was born in Naples on March and spent her youth in Italy, Spain, and Morocco.

She received a diploma in the Arts from Twickenham College in London.

After immigrating to the U.S., Gillian resided in Houston, TX, and New York City before coming to the Mountain Top in 1991.

She was an accomplished artist, renowned for murals that dotted the residences and public buildings from Canada to Boston and in the Adirondack and Catskill regions.

Gillian was a board member and fundraiser for the Catskill Mountain Foundation, among other various community activities. She was a woman of great kindness, courage and grace.

She is survived by her husband Richard, her son Byron, and daughter Zoe.

PALENVILLE --- Franklin W. Sirianni, 82, of Bogart Road died suddenly Friday, July 15, 2005 at his residence.

Born April 20, 1923 in Gaileton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Anthony and Rose Sirianni.

Franklin was a United States Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Hornell American Legion Post.

He attended Alfred University and played football on both the high school and collegiate levels. He was an area resident for many years and was the District Sales Manager for Cott Soda for over 15 years, and formerly manager of Clicquot Club Bottling Company of Cairo. He was a member of the Palenville Country Club since 1948 and enjoyed tournament play. He later became the bartender at the Palenville Country Club. He enjoyed reading and was an avid New York Yankees fan.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Marian Sirianni; three sons; Michael and his wife Sharon of Oklahoma City, Stephen and his wife Jill, and Daniel and his wife Susan, both of Palenville; a daughter, Patricia Sirianni of Coxsackie; two brothers, Richard and William; a sister, Cleora Carrol, all of Hornell; six grandchildren: Thomas, Leigh, Jaclyn, Jessica. Daniel, and Michelle; and three great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brother, Raymond.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, July 17, 2005 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, 45 John St., Saugerties. His funeral procession will form on Monday, July 18, 2005 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. by Fr. Bonaventure at the Sacred Heart Church in Palenville. Burial with full military honors will be in the Palenville Cemetery.

LEEDS--- Joseph F. Muller, 54, of Route 67 in Leeds died Thursday, July 14, 2005 at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany.

Born in Kingston on Sept. 8, 1950, he was the son of Phil Richards and Agnes McGuire Muller.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea from 1967 to 1969. He previously lived in Creek Locks before moving to Leeds in 1991. He was the founder and co-owner of Muller Moving and Storage Inc. of New York City from 1978 to 1993. He was employed as a mortgage loan officer for several companies in Kingston, Newburgh and New York City.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Muller; two daughters, Amber Lantier Muller of Queens and Heather Lantier Muller of New York City; a sister, Patricia J. Collucci of Ormond Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Ken Muller of Wilmington, N.C. and Gerald Robert Muller of McMinnville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation will be held at Wiltwyck Cemetery in Kingston.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

SURPRISE --- Carol Evan Coons, 59, of Surprise, died at her residence on July 17, 2005 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Oct. 21, 1945 in Flushing, the daughter of the late John Nicholas and Lottie P (Florek) Skula Jr.

Ms. Coons was employed as a secretary for the Greenville Central School District for 17 years.

A devoted mother, she loved NASCAR, especially Dale Jarrett. Elvis was also one of her passions. She also enjoyed boating, camping, motorcycles and bonfires.

She was known for her crafting of Musical Clowns which she made with her mother.

Ms. Coons was survived by her son, Ronald Coons, Jr. of Surprise and her daughter Tracy (Timothy) Couse and her two grandsons, Tyler and Trent Couse of Huntersville, N.C.; her brothers, Nicholas (Elanor) Skula of Farmingdale, N.Y., Terry (Joan) Skula of East Berne, and a sister, June (Norman) Channing of Surprise.

Along with her parents she was predeceased by a brother, James Skula.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday from the Sopris-Murray Funeral Home, 11877 Route 9W, Coxsackie.

CATSKILL--- Edith G. Deane, 87 of Catskill, died Monday, July 18, 2005 at IONOVA Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, VA.

She was born Jan. 28, 1918 in Athens, the daughter of the late Erastus and Hannah (McNamara) Dumary.

Mrs. Deane was a graduate of Coxsackie-Athens High School. She also attended Mildred Elley Business School in Albany.

While working at Roberts Express in Catskill, Edith met her husband to be, Lewis E. Deane. They were wed in Astoria, Ore. While Mr. Deane was in the Army. He was subsequently deployed to the Alaskan Theater of Operations and Edith returned to Catskill.

Later they were both active in the Catskill Yacht Club and Edith was also President of the Coxsackie-Athens High School Alumni Association.

Mrs. Deane was known for her love of family and her favorite activities included traveling and boating.

Survivors include her two children, William L. Deane and his wife Helen, both of Morristown, N.J.; and Joan E. Deane Watts and husband William of Clifton, VA; a sister, E. Louise Dumary Sheridan of Catskill; four grandchildren, William L. Deane Jr. and David M. Deane of Morristown, N.J., Tori J. Watts and Adam D. Watts if Clifton, VA; and a cousin, Jack McNamara of Stockport.

Mrs. Deane was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Lewis E. Deane on Dec. 30, 1995; and a brother, William F. Dumary on Sept. 2, 1965.

DURHAM --- Barbara Ann Teator. 62, of Durham, died Monday, July 18, 2005 at home after a courageous 10 year fight against cancer.

Born July 25, 1942 in Catskill, she was a graduate of SUNY Potsdam, class of 1964. She was school teacher for 28 years, the bulk of them in the Cairo-Durham Central School District.

Mrs. Teator was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She cherished playing with and teaching her grandchildren. In addition to focusing on her family and teaching, she led a 4-H group, coached Durham Youth Soccer teams, was an adviser for the Cairo-Durham Cheerleading squads, and tutored numerous children with their math. She also enjoyed decorating her home, reading, movies and especially tending to her beautiful gardens. She will be dearly missed but always a guiding influence in the lives of her loved ones.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Teator; children, Sharon Hayner and husband Ken of Halfmoon, and William Teator and wife Kim of Falls Church, Va.; four grandchildren, Jessica and Joshua Hayner, and Kendra and Alexander Teator; father, George Kerr of Catskill; siblings, Ron Kerr of Poughquag and Mary Susan Kerr Welter of New Paltz; ten nieces and nephews, and many loving family and friends.

She was predeceased by her mother, Lorraine Kerr in 1976, and brothers, George J. Kerr in 1991, and Robert W. Kerr in 2000.

PRATTSVILLE --- Clara Murphy, 86, of Prattsville, died Sunday, July 17, 2005, at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany.

Born Aug. 9, 1918 in Morris, NY, she was the daughter of Clyde Francis Southwick and Lula (nee Bixby) Southwick.

Mrs. Murphy operated Clara’s Beauty Shop on Main Street in Prattsville beginning in 1973. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Prattsville, and secretary-treasurer for the Prattsville Water District. She devoted her time to knitting and crocheting.

Survivors include her son, David of Prattsville, and his companion Molly Clark; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Edward in 1978; a son, Francis (Red) Murphy in 2003; and brothers and sisters.

Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m. at the Prattsville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Elliot Oaks officiating.

Interment will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Prattsville.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Prattsville Rescue Squad or the Prattsville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

PRATTSVILLE --- Ethel Peck, 93, of Prattsville, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill.

Born Feb. 5, 1912 in Prattsville, she was the daughter of Salem B. Beers and Eva (Truesdell) Beers.

Mrs. Peck was a retired Windham Ashland Jewett Central School Teacher.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Ferris and her husband Robert; grandchildren, Deborah Krup, Denise Rivette, Maryanne Ferris; five great-grandchildren, Joey, Jacob and Nicole Rivette and Monica and Andrew Krup.

She was predeceased by her husband Sheldon Peck in 1979.

CATSKILL --- William R. Wrolsen, 78, of Route 9W North, died Monday, July 18, 2005 at the Samuel S. Stratton Veterans Memorial Hospital in Albany.

Born Dec. 9, 1926 in Saugerties, he was the son of the late William and Florence Fatum Wrolsen.

A lifetime area resident, he was a veteran of World War II where he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. Upon his discharge in January 1946, he returned to Saugerties where he had finished out his senior year of high school.

He was employed for over 25 years as a machinist at the St. Lawrence Cement in Catskill.

Active in firematics, he was a charter member of the Malden-West Camp Fire Co. He served as its chief in 1959. He later served as company president in 1963.

He was a member of the Saugerties Exempts Firemen’s Association, the Hudson Valley Firemen’s Association. He was serving in the capacity as fire commissioner.

He was recently recognized by New York State, Ulster County and the town of Saugerties for more than 50 years of service to the fire company.

He was a member of the United Lime Cement and Gypsum Workers Union, the Saugerties American Legion Post 72, a former member of the High Woods Sportsmen’s Club, the Saugerties Dartball League West Camp Fire Company Team and the Amrod Aces Baseball and Basketball Team.

Survivors include his wife, the former Thelma Pysher, with whom he recently celebrated his 55^th wedding anniversary; two sons, Bruce Wrolsen of Fulton and Craig Wrolsen of Saugerties; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Wrolsen was predeceased by his stepmother, Sigrid Hanson Wrolsen, a brother, Robert C. Wrolsen, and a sister, Eleanor Wrolsen.

Funeral services ill be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, corner of John and Lafayette Streets, with the Rev. Edward R. Schreiber, pastor of the Saugerties Atonement Lutheran Church officiating.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the Mount Marion Cemetery, Saugerties.

She was born in Hunter and was the daughter of the late Jack and Mildred Becker.

Mrs. Miller was a true caregiver, raising her children as well as many others. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching and fishing.

She was the wife of the late Sherman Miller.

She is the beloved mother of June Narkiewicz, Diane Pleasants and William Miller, grandmother of Danielle and Jeffrey Narkiewicz, Kellie and Jason Pleasants, Tasia Quackenbush, Jessica Cody, Cameron and Alexis Miller, sister of Violet Mead, Kenneth Becker, Patricia Snyder and Ronald Becker, great-grandmother of Nicole and Kendra; several nieces and nephews also survive.

EARLTON --- William R. Engler Jr., 27, of Earlton, (formerly of Saylorsburg, Pa.) died Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at Albany Medical Center in Albany.

Born in Allentown, Pa., March 5, 1978, he was the son of William R. Engler Sr. and Lucinda (Frable) Engler.

He was a 1996 graduate of Pleasant Valley High School. He received an Associates Degree in accounting and was employed by MetLife in Albany. He was an active member of the Medusa Volunteer Fire Company. He was a member of the APA Pool League, had a keen interest in tropical fish, loved hard rock music, was an avid reader with a love of books and was a loving father to his daughter, Siri.

Survivors include his mother, Lucinda Engler of Greensboro, N.C.; father and step-mother, William R Engler Sr. and Lynne Engler of Kunkletown, Pa.; daughter, Siri Engler of Medusa; fiancé, Melissa Katz of Earlton; sister, Sherie Church and her husband Curt of Independence, Ind.; two step-sisters, Jolynne Lane and Melissa Snyder; maternal grandmother, Katherine Stratton; paternal grandmother, Lorraine Engler; two nieces, Tiffany and Alice Church.

A memorial service to celebrate William’s life will be conducted on Saturday, 1 p.m. at Medusa Chapel, Camp Medusa Road, Medusa.

GREENVILLE --- Marc L. Fraim, 21, of Greenville, died suddenly at his home on July 20, 2005.

He was born in Troy on June 30, 1984, son of Mark Fraim and Victoria (Lessard) O’Donnell.

He was a machine operator for Package Pavement in New Baltimore.

Mr. Fraim was an avid baseball fan loving the Lakers and snowboarding. He will be remembered as a friend to all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife Erin (Palmer) Fraim. A daughter Brooklyn Lael Fraim, a step-daughter Madison Michelle Lyles, his mother Victoria (Lessard) O’Donnell and his step-father William O’Donnell, his father, Mark Fraim, maternal grand-parents, William Lessard and Mary Dinelle, paternal grandmother, June Sunkes, also four sisters, Jennifer Ogilvie, Danielle Mann, Kara and Angela Fraim, a brother Justin Fraim, tow step-brothers, Joseph and Christopher O’Donnell and an aunt and God Mother Valerie Grugan.

MEDUSA --- Salvatore Mario DeMarco, 78, of Medusa, died quietly on July 15, 2005 after many years of managing his heart disease.

He was born in Garfield, N.J. the son of Phillip and Lucia (Ippolito) DeMarco, who were immigrants as teens form Italy.

Mr. DeMarco was the youngest of six children and the last surviving sibling.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Helen just two years ago and lived with his daughter, Linda Demarco MD and her husband Lee Ramsdell since that time.

Mr. DeMarco retired from National Beryilla Co. in New Jersey in 1992 and ultimately spent much of his retired time caring for his ill wife, eating well and watching sports on TV.

He was an active dancer and bowler with Helen while employed at Presto Locks in N.J. He was always an avid sports fan, especially for his children’s teams and the N.Y. Yankees. He was tireless and selfless in his quest to better his family’s lives and education.

He is loved as he loved his family and friends and will be missed by all who knew his humorous spirit and zest for life, right the very end (the Yanks beat Boston just hours before he died, what a happy man!)

Survivors include his two step-grandchildren Erin and Courtney, his son Salvatore Jr., wife Kathy, and two grandchildren Loren and Sonja of Concord, Mass., and his youngest son Darren of Florida.

Services are at the convenience of the family.

ATHENS --- John M. Hraska, 67, of Farm to Market road, Athens, died July 21, 2005, at Community Hospice of Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Born in New York City on Nov. 27, 1937, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Balaga) Hraska.

He was a resident of Athens since 1964, loved hunting, fishing, and landscaping, and was a member of the Athens Republican Club.

He was also well known for his advanced knowledge in rural water treatment. Prior to his retirement, he was the technical manager of the NYS Rural Water Association in Claverack, Columbia County.

He is survived by his wife Anna (Kryzan) Hraska of Athens; son, James W. Hraska of West Nyack; daughter, Loretta M. Galewaler of Cairo; stepdaughter Stephanie Karous of Georgia; and five grandchildren, Kadie and Virginia Galewaler, and John, James, and Joseph Hraska.

HUNTER --- Rose A. Laga, 91, of Hunter, died July 21, 2005 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Born Oct. 5, 1913 in Vienna, Austria, she was the daughter of Anton and Rosa Lejcek Kurecka. She immigrated to America in 1933.

She was the owner of the former Sunland Farm Motel in Jewett for over 52 years. She was a member of the Hunter Civic Association, Jewett Grange, National Federation of Independent Businesses, and the Hunter Chamber of Commerce.

She was predeceased by her husband, Otto Laga, in 1962, and also by her brothers Antonin, John and Rudolf, and sister Frances.

She is survived by her son, Milan Laga and his wife Rosemary of Hunter; daughter, Linda O’Bryan and her husband Tim of Hunter; five grandchildren, Adoree Meyer and her husband Chriss, Keith Hall and his wife Marsha, Krista DiCaprio and her husband Patrick, Jonathon Laga and his wife Nicole, and Mathew Laga; and eight great-grandchildren, Miranda Meyer, Zach Meyer, Olivia Meyer, Christian Meyer, Brianna Rose Laga, Dylan Patrick DiCaprio, Meagan JoAnna Hall, and Ashley Walsher Hall.

An area resident since 1960, she previously resided in New York where she was employed in the editing department of the Reader’s Digest in Pleasantville.

She was an active member of the Saugerties Senior Citizens.

Survivors include a son, Stephen J. Hohenstein of Catskill; and a daughter, Nancy Downey of Saugerties, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hohenstein was predeceased by her husband, John “Jack” Hohenstein in 1994.

CATSKILL --- George Jacques, 81, formerly of Cairo Junction Road, died Saturday, July 23, 2005 at Skyview Nursing Home in Croton-on-Hudson where he had been a patient following his residence at the Pavilion in Catskill.

Born in Upton, Quebec, Canada on Sept. 28, 1923, he was the son of the late William Israel and Ursula Oshsenbauer Behrens Jacques.

He married the former Olivette Rose Anna Marie Caya on July 21, 1945, and they immigrated to the United States in 1954.

He was employed as a machinist foreman with Kings Electronics in Tuckahoe, NY for 35 years. He retired in 1989 to his vacation home on Cairo Junction Road in Catskill.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John (Stella) Feminella of Cortlandt Manor; six grandchildren: Ernest (Linda) Viola of North Caldwell, NJ, Mrs. Glen (Angela) Fernandes of Ramsey, NJ, Jennifer Viola of Yonkers, Christopher Viola of Jefferson, NY, and Jonathon Wagner of Cortlandt Manor; four great-grandchildren: Ernest Viola IV, Thomas John Viola, Maria Baab and John Baab; a sister, Elizabeth Jacques of Green Castle, IN; four nephews, Henry Behrens of Florida, James Moore of Indiana, Daniel Moore of Indiana, and Michael Jacques of Canada; three nieces: Bernice Durand of Montreal, Bronwyne Davies of Vancouver, and Johanne Jacques of Canada; as well as a dear lady friend, Simone Schaefer of Glenmont.

He was predeceased by his wife, Olivette Jacques, on Sept. 13, 1985; three brothers: Peter and Bernhard Behrens and Fred Jacques; and two sisters, Alice Moore and Flora Davies.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 25, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. --- William J. Thornby, 52, of Pine Street, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at the Providence General Hospital in Providence, R.I.

Born Sept. 15, 1952 in the Bronx, he was the son of the late William and Mary Harwood Thornby.

He was employed on the oil rigs in Key West, Fla., for several years and later for Con Edison in New York City.

He was also a member of Operators Engineers Local 15.

Survivors include two sisters: Madeline Jones of New York City, N.Y., Theresa Walsh of Saugerties, two brothers: James Thornby of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Thomas Thornby of Bisbee, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews also survive.

His funeral procession will form at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, corner of John and Lafayette Streets then proceed to St. Mary of the Snow Roman Catholic Church where at 11:30 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered.

Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Barclay Heights, Saugerties.

PARSIPPANY, N.J. --- Lawrence E. Carey, 70, of Parsippany, N.J. died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville, N.J

He was a prior resident of Oak Park, Ill., and moved to Parsippany, N.J. in 1964.

Mr. Carey was born March 22, 1934 in Catskill to the late C. Emory and Alice Smith Carey.

He graduated from Paul Smith College in Saranac Lake, N.Y., in 1955 with an Associate’s Degree in Hotel Management. He was employed as credit manager for the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City for 35 years. Following his retirement in 1994 he was a chauffeur at Harding Livery in Morris Plains, current member of St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Parsippany, and an active member of each choir.

Survivors include two children: Lawrence E. Carey Jr. of Stockholm and Kimberly Anne Uhlig of Washington; loving daughter-in-law, Danuta Carey and son-in-law, Thomas Uhlig; sister, Jane Wilt of Catskill; five grandchildren: Carey Anne Uhlig, Camryn Uhlig, Anna Maria Uhlig, Victoria Carey, and Christopher Lawrence Carey; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Carey was predeceased by his beloved wife, Anne F. Frost Carey, on Dec. 6, 1988, loving stepmother, Jane Craw Carey and sister, Helen Carey Shoemaker.

Calling hours were held on Dec. 3. 2004 with funeral services held on Dec. 3, 2004 at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Parsippany prior to private cremation.

A committal service will be 12:30 p.m. Friday, at the Town of Catskill Cemetery. The Rev. Marcia Gibbons, pastor of the Livingston Reformed Church will officiate.

WESTERLO --- Flossie Ila (Wideman) Klersy, 93, of Westerlo, died July 22, 2005 in Tampa, Fla.

Born in Westerlo, June 3, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Perrin and Frances (Brate) Wideman.

Mrs. Klersy was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Westerlo, was an AWANA leader and Sunday school teacher at People’s Baptist Church in Albany for many years. She also participated with the Hill Town Seniors Group and served with the Red Cross and had worked for Stanley Home Products. A devoted wife and mother, she will be missed by her loving family and all who knew her.

Survivors include her five children, Henry J. Klersy Jr. and his wife Donata, Wilhelmina Frances Ellermets and her husband Arne, Alida Caroline Ellermets and her husband Heiki, Darathy Jane Soto and her husband Robert and Perrin (PC) Klersy and his wife Linda, also a special nephew Richard Vanlderstine and his family; 20 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Henry J. Klersy Sr., on Dec. 2, 1980.

Friends may call at the First Baptist Church of Westerlo, Saturday, 10 to 11 a.m. prior to a funeral service to be conducted at 11 a.m.

Interment will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, New Salem, NY.

ACRA --- Elizabeth A. (Betty) Lorenz, 70, of Roosevelt Ave., Acra, died in her home Monday, July 25, 2005 following a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma.

Born Aug. 3, 1934 in Far Rockaway, NY, she was the daughter of the late George H. Jones and Mary E. Jones.

She married Howard Obertubbesing in 1952, moved to upstate New York in the early 1960s and to her home in Acra in 1967. She was predeceased by her husband Howard in 1974. She married Edward H. Lorenz in 1978 and they shared a wonderful 27 years together. She worked for the Cairo-Durham Central School District as a food service worker before retiring in the early 1990s. Raise a Brooklyn Dodgers fan; she became an avid New York Mets fan in her adulthood. She was a long time member of the American Legion Post # 983 Auxiliary and was active with the Cairo Golden Agers Club. She loved dogs, enjoyed watching birds and deer from her porch and deck and cherished time with her husband, children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Edward H. Lorenz of Acra; sons, Thomas L. Obertubbesing and wife Okie of Tacoma, WA, George H. Obertubbesing and wife Lisa Barrows of Chantilly, VA, Kenneth Obertubbesing and wife Pamela of Colorado Springs, CO, Howard Obertubbesing of Allentown, PA, Edward Obertubbesing and wife Sirli of Westerlo, NY; step-daughters, Laura Lorenz of Tillson, NY, Florence Ohle and husband Tim of East Durham, Kim Puorro and husband Anthony of Earlton, Joanne Rose and husband Pat of Earlton; brother, George E. Jones and wife Eileen of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; and 17 grandchildren.

SAUGERTIES --- Marjorie J. “Marge” Brown, 70, of Kraut Road, died Sunday, July 24, 2005 t the Kingston City Hospital, Kingston.

Born Aug. 6, 1934 in Stockton, Calif., she was the daughter of the late Harold and Gladys M. Keyes Bolton.

An area resident since 1968, Mrs. Brown was employed for several years at Stewarts in both Saugerties and Kingston. She was an avid bowler in California and Saugerties. She was elected into the Saugerties Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1974. For 14 years she was the secretary of the Wednesday Morning Bowling League and was secretary for the Tuesday Night Sawyer Women’s League for six years. She became involved in the Saugerties Little League and was secretary for ten years. During that time she was instrumental in getting the concession stand built. She served as a nine year member of the Saugerties School Board from 1979 to 1988. She was a member and past president of the Saugerties Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post #72. She was involved with the 1^st Women’s Judo World Championship held in Madison Square Garden in November 1980 and was a security guard for the summer Empire State Games for ten years. In her later years she became a fan and supporter at Saugerties Legion Games where her familiar cow bell was heard and appreciated by the Saugerties ball players. She was a life member of the re-organized Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Brown, with whom she recently celebrated their 50^th wedding anniversary; three sons, Donald G. of Malden, Paul L. of Catskill, and Bruce C. of Wasilla, Alaska; two sisters, Helen Pace of Carson City, NE, and Virginia Nolan of Wellington, CT; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Dolores Branton and a brother, Jack Bolton.

A funeral procession will form 10:45 a.m. Friday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette streets, then to the Trinity Baptist Church for an 11:30 a.m. funeral service.

Interment will follow in the Blue Mountain Cemetery, Saugerties.

FREEHOLD --- Wanda G. Ciccone, 51, of Freehold, died peacefully at home with her family by her side on July 25, 2005.

She was born in Albany on Feb. 18, 1953, daughter of Robert and Harriett (Lounsbury) Peck.

Mrs. Ciccone was a homemaker, a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her two daughters, Eressa Budz and her husband Casimir of Freehold, Eowyn Pepitone and her husband Benedict of Stanley, N.C.; and her son Eric Ciccone and his wife Karen of Cardiff by the Sea, Ca., her parents, Robert and Harriet Peck of Westerlo, a brother, Robert Peck Jr., four sisters, Deborah Parker, Sharon Cimmis, Pamela Boehlke, and Susan Davis, a granddaughter, Haley Ciccone and a grandson, Adam Budz.

Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Greenville.

Calling hours will be prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Interment will be in the Onesquethaw Cemetery following the service.

GREENVILLE --- Arthur P. Dynes, 69, of Greenville, died July 25, 2005 at the Albany Medical Center in Albany.

He was born in County Tyronne, Ireland on April 20, 1936, son of the late Arthur and Annie (McGrath) Dynes.

Mr. Dynes came to America as a young man and worked for 20 years with the NYC Transit Authority (MABSTOA) until he retired.

He was a member of the Greenville Irish-American Club And the Michael J. Quill Irish Cultural and Sports Centre.

Mr. Dynes was well known in the Greenville and East Durham Community; a talented musician and vocalist playing for years at the Fern Cliff in East Durham, as well as dances for the Greenville Irish-American Club and many other engagements around the house and its grounds.

Survivors include his partner of many years Linda VanWagenen of Greenville, his wife Philomen (Donnelly) Dynes of Yonkers, three daughters, Sioban Musollino of Mahopac, N.Y., Dolores Hofhine of Stamford, Conn., and Sharon Durkin of the Bronx, four grandchildren, Sydney and Christian Hofhine and Lauren and Caitlyn Musollino, and brothers and sisters, Hugh Dynes of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., Michael Dynes, Peter Dynes and Ester Christman of Coal Island, County, Tyronne, Ireland and Maureen Everitt of England and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81 in Greenville.

Mr. Dynes was predeceased by two brothers Terrance and Vincent Dynes.

CATSKILL --- MARY Madeline Mickle, 87, of Catskill, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at the Columbia Greene Long Term Care in Catskill.

Born March 11, 1918 in Saugerties, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Jeannette (Freleigh) Mickle.

Ms. Mickle was an employee of Ferroxcube in Saugerties and several positions in retail stores prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Catskill United Methodist Church and Catskill Senior Fellowship and Rip Van Winkle Seniors Club. She was very adept at doing crafts and crocheting.

Survivors include her five children, Leroy Post Jr. of Catskill, Madeline Homeyer of Fort Ann, N.Y., Louis Post of Okeechobee, Fl., June Wanchik of Saugerties, and Mark K. Post of Earlton; one sister, Jeannette Carson of Catskill; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Abram Roy Post in 1989; her second husband, Edward Trinkle in 1996; three sisters. Rose Picardi, Lillian Vache, and Frieda Martin; four brothers, Floyd, Roger, Marvin and Lupie Mickle.

Calling hours are Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Russell Sargeant will be officiating.

LOUDONVILLE --- Walter Singer, 87, of Loudonville, died at his home with his family on Tuesday, July 26, 2005 after a courageous battle with a long illness.

Dr. Singer, the son of the late Pauline and Morris Singer, was born in Detroit, Mich. He spent most of his childhood in Catskill.

Dr. Singer has a distinguished career in pharmacy. He was Assistant Dean and Lecturer at the University of California School of Pharmacy, at which he earned his Ph. D. in pharmaceutical chemistry. He was appointed Dean of Albany College of Pharmacy in 1967 and remained there until he retired in 1982. The following year he was appointed Dean Emeritus and awarded an honorary Doctor of Science Degree by Union University.

He was active in a number of organizations and won many awards. Dr. Singer was published more than 20 times and gave more than two hundred talks to professional and lay groups.

In 1960 he was the Medical Supply Officer and Chief Pharmacist at the Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley in California, and was a pharmacist at the Winter Olympics at Lake Placid in 1980.

Walt was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting coins, stamps, insects, photos of flowers, tennis rackets and thousands of books. His lifelong sports passion was tennis. With a national ranking in his age group, he played in several tournaments a year. For several years he organized the Senior Tennis Tournament for the Albany area and held that tournament each year until 2004, when he was too ill to handle the task.

Dr. Singer is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Lila Singer, also a pharmacist and well known artist, and his two daughters, Paula Singer of Fresno, Calif. And Dr. Michelle Singer of Guilderland. He leaves two grandsons, Damian and Aaron Acevedo, a brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Eleanor Singer of Watervliet, and a sister, Bernice Liepshutz Tolin of Tallahassee, Fla. He also leaves two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call at the Dufresne and Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, on Thursday, July 28, 2005, from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be private.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Pero Memorial Funeral Home, Ravena.

Survivors include her daughter, Nicole Barker; three grandchildren, Mackenzie, Joshua, and Allyson all of Pikeville, North Carolina; two sisters, Maureen Geiger of Milford, PA and Marianne Darling of Catskill; a brother, Joseph Bauman of Petersburg, VA.

She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Rita Bauman of Catskill and a sister, Kathleen Favicchio of Apex, NC.

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s R. C. Church, Bridge St., Catskill. Rev. John J. Murphy, Pastor, will be officiating.

Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Catskill.

CATSKILL --- Pauline Kozak Madey, 94, formerly of Dewitt, N.Y. and the Pavilion Assisted Living in Catskill, died July 28, 2005 at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill.

Born Oct. 15, 1918 in New York Mills, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Bertha (Nowicki) Kozak.

Pauline graduated Magna Cum Laude at the age of 19 from the School of Management, Syracuse University in 193o, with a Bachelor of Science Degree. While a student, she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Betta Gamma Sigma, and Pi Lambda Theta, National Honor Societies.

In 1938, she studied Polish language, history and culture at the Universities of Cracow, Warsaw and Posen in Poland on a scholarship from the Kosciuszko Foundation.

In 1967, Pauline earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Cum Laude, with a major in Russian at Syracuse University. Thereafter, she pursued graduate studies in Russian Literature at the University.

Pauline was employed at Syracuse University in several capacities, a total of 38 years between 1930 and 1975, retiring from the position of Associate Director of International Admissions. In her last assignment, she traveled in Europe, the Middle East, and South America, visiting international schools and recruiting foreign students for enrollment at Syracuse University. She was proficient in several languages.

During World War II, Pauline spent several years in employ of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Albany, Syracuse and the American Embassy in Santiago, Chile.

She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Madey in 1978; a sister, Helen Kobielski; and three brothers, Emil Kozak, Norbert Kozak, and Edmund Kozak.

Mrs. Madey is survived by two sisters, Gertrude Lynch of Catskill, and Stephany Steck of Elm Grove, Wis., and aunt, Stephany Nowicki of New York Mills; and several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2005 at Holy Cross Church, Dewitt. Interment will follow at Saints Stanislau and Casimir Cemetery, Whitesboro, NY,

Contributions in Mrs. Madey’s memory may be made to Holy Cross Church, Dewitt, NY; or Francis House, a home for the terminally ill, 108 Michael’s Avenue, Syracuse, NY.
