JAMES F. MAURER JR.
NASCAR Buff

EARLTON---James F. Maurer Jr., 43, of 105 Sugar Loaf Rd., Earlton, died suddenly Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at the Columbia Memorial hospital emergency room in Hudson. 

Born in Bayshore, Long Island, Jan. 21, 1961, he was the son of James F. Maurer Sr., and Margaret J. (Kelsey) Maurer of 23 Sugar Loaf Rd., Earlton.

Mr. Maurer was a lifetime area resident, he was a NASCAR buff, liked football and loved the outdoors.   He was employed by the Laborer's Union of Albany.

Surviviors include his parents; daughters Crystal and Margaret Maurer, both of Palenville; a sister, Cindy Maurer Turk of Earlton; niece Tasara Maxwell of Coxsackie; nephew, Jeremy Monington of Earlton; fiancee Allison Hoffman and son David of Earlton.

He is predeceased by his sister Marie Monington in 1993.

Calling hours are Friday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the W.C. Brady's Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie.

Funeral services will take place Saturday, 10 a.m. at the funeral home.  The Rev. Stan Lemons, Pastor of the Medway Congregational Church will officiate.

Interment will follow in the family plot of the Riverside Cemetery in Coxsackie.

FRANCES A. SALAMAK
Avid hunter

HANNACROIX---Frances A. Salamak, 66, of Alcove Road, Hannacroix, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at St. Peter's Hospice, Albany, after a long illness.

Born in Astoria, NY, March 1, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John and Bessie (Conklin) Salamak.

Ms. Salamak was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Bingo player.  She was also a member of the Medway Congregational Church and prior to her retirement she was employed by the Eagle Electric Company of Long Island City, NY.

Survivors include four brothers, Alfred Hoffman of Hannacroix, John Salamak of Penn., Richard Salamak of Astoria, Peter Salamak of Hannacroix; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Private cremation services took place Thursday, July 1, 2004, at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the W.C. Brady's Sons, Inc., Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie, NY.

THORVALD ANDERSEN 
Owner and operator of Thor Marine Inc.

COXSACKIE---Thorvald Andersen, 82, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004.

Born April 5, 1922 in Haugesund, Norway, he was the son of Ole Andreas and Torborg Serina Andersen.

At the age of 16 Mr. Andersen left Norway and went to sea as a Merchant Seaman.  While at sea he became ill and was hospitalized in China for six months.  Unable to return to Nazi occupied Norway, he came to the United States in 1941.  He served in the United States Army in the 99th Infantry Battalion as a member of the Ski Troops.  After discharge he worked as a commercial fisherman, carpenter, dock builder and in 1959 moved to Coxsackie where he owned and operated Thor Marine Inc. until 1984.  He retired to Apollo Beach Florida with his wife Margaret where they enjoyed many years sailing on Tampa Bay.  He was a past commodore of the Coxsackie Yacht Club, a member of the Tampa Sailing Squadron, Ark Lodge #48 F&AM and the American Legion Post #166.

Thor was the beloved husband of 54 years to Margaret Andersen; father of Linda Deubert and her husband Michael, Susan Lethbridge and her husband John, and Gail Andersen and her husband, Larry Cline; ten grandchildren, Mark and Brian Deubert, Heather, Sara, and Kyle Lethbridge, and Brandon, Justin, Jason, Spencer and Serena Cline.

He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Randi Andersen, and 11 brothers and sisters.

Calling hours will be at the Sopris Funeral Home Inc., 11877 Route 9W West Coxsackie from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday July 2.

Funeral services will be at the First Reformed Church, Mansion St., West Coxsackie at 11 a.m. on Saturday July 3 with the Reverend Paul Peters officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Wildwood Foundation, Randi Andersen Scholarship Fund, 2995C Curry Road Extension, Schenectady, NY  12203-2801.

SOUTH CAIRO---Teresa R. Brandone, 69, of 40 Country Estates, South Cairo, formerly of 43 Day St., Village of Catskill, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Community Hospice at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson.

Born in Catskill Aug. 19, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Frances (DiStefano) Buttafuoco.

Mrs. Brandone was a member of the Ladies Elks #1341 of Catskill, a 30-year employee of Greene County where she was employed as a receptionist at Greene County Memorial Hospital and Greene County Department of Social Services.  She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church of Catskill, a past member of St. Patrick's Mother's Club, and a past member of the Catholic Daughters.  She was also a member of the Mixed Bowling League in Catskill.  Her hobbies included collecting cookbooks and traveling.

Survivors include her husband John D. Brandone of South Cairo; a son Michael and daughter-in-law Jeanne Brandone of Chicago; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Pamela) Marchesani of Catskill; a brother, John Buttafuoco of Florida; six grandchildren, John, Maria, and Mitchell Brandone, Daniel, Justin, and Cody Marchesani; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Monday, 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Richards Funeral Home, Bross St., Cairo.

Mass of the Christian Burial with Fr. John Murphy, Pastor of St. Patrick's Church, Catskill, will take place Wednesday 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Catskill.

Entombment will take place at a later date in the family mausoleum in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Catskill.

Navy veteran

ATHENS---William J. Brown, 86, of Sleepy Hollow Lake died July 2, 2004 at Columbia Greene Long Term Care Nursing Home in Catskill where he has been a resident since Feb. 17.

He was born in Brooklyn  on March 18, 1917.

William has been an area resident for over 16 years.  During W.W.II, he served with the U.S. Navy.  Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a machinist for the Basconcellos Co. of L.I., N.Y.   He loved music, cooking, reading, playing poker, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth M. (Layton) Brown;  a son, William R. and daughter-in-law Tina Brown of Pennsylvania; a daughter, Peggy and son-in-law Leon Goudikian of New Jersey; a sister, Irene and brother-in-law Gene Lucarelli of Queens; four grandchildren, Melissa, Megan, Renee, and Rebecca; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to call  at the W.C. Brady's Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie on Monday, July 5 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on July 6 at 9 a.m. by Rev.  Fr. John Moyna, Pastor, at St. Mary's R.C. Church in Coxsackie.

Interment will follow in the family plot of St. Mary's Parish Cemetery.

CATSKILL---Cassie Marie Pimentel, 91, of 21 Harrison Street, died suddenly Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at home.

She was born June 3, 1913 in Cane River, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Johnny and Essie (Delphin) Balthazar.

Cassie was employed as a postal worker in New York City for 15 years prior to her retirement.  She was also a seamstress for over 25 years.

Cassie was a communicant of St. Patrick's R.C. Church in Catskill, a member of St. Anthony's Secular Franciscan Order in Catskill and a former Christian Mother at St. Michael's R.C.  Church in Brooklyn.

Ms. Pimentel is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Balthazar-Heitzmann and her husband Victor Heitzmann of Climax; a sister, Delphin Davis and her husband Melvin of Riverside, CA;  two grandchildren, Elisa Vega and her husband Mark Washburn of Chatham and Marcus Gregio and his wife Patricia Lane-Mullins of Catskill;  and a great-grandson, Maximilian Delphin Gregio of Catskill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 10 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Cane River, Louisiana.  The Rev. Jack Michaelchuk will be officiating.

Entombment will follow in the family mausoleum at St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery.

A memorial mass will be offered at a later date in Catskill.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home in Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

EAST DURHAM---John Cartledge, 90, formerly of East Durham, died July 3, 2004 at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs.

He was born in Yonkers on March 20, 1914, son of the late John and Mary (Armitt) Cartledge.

Mr. Cartledge was a heavy equipment operator having last worked for Peckham Industries out of Cairo.

He was well known for his singing ability, as a young man singing in several local establishments.  He was for a while a singing waiter at the Blue Danube in Cairo.

He was also a member of the Catskill Valley Historical Society and the Durham Center Museum Inc., of which he was a former member of the board of directors.

Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Hamner and her husband Daniel of Fairfield, Conn., a son, Kenneth Cartledge and his wife Karen of Saratoga Springs, five grandchildren, Tracy DeMarco and her husband Michael, Christine Cartledge, Todd Lepre and his wife Lyn, Jill Silhan and her husband, Edward and Dr. Scott Lepre; and two great-grand-daughters, Ainsley and Sarah Lepre.

Mr. Cartledge was predeceased by his wife, Carmela (Mainella) Cartledge in 1997.  He was also predeceased by two brothers, George and Robert Cartledge.

Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Monday from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday from the funeral home with a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Greenville.

Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Durham Center Museum.

FLOYD W. GOODRICH
SUNY public safety officer

GUILDERLAND---Floyd W. Goodrich, 76, of Guilderland died suddenly Sunday, July 4, 2004 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.

Born Sept. 16, 1927, he was the son of the late Mark and Etta Becker Goodrich in Hunter.

Mr. Goodrich was an electrician for many years and later he was a public safety officer for SUNY Downtown.  He was a World War II Naval veteran, member of the American Legion and a 32nd degree Mason.  He was a member of the Hunter Fire Company and a life member of the Hunter Firemen's Association.

Survivors include his wife, Marguerite; a daughter, Wendy Etzkorn of West Virginia; a son, James of Lanesville; two grandchildren, Jeremy and Alicia Etzkorn; two sisters, Alice Yankowski and Marie Hughes; and three brothers Robert, Leon and Mark Jr.

He was predeceased by his brothers Charles and Lloyd Goodrich.

Calling hours are Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, 7742 Main St., Hunter.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 11 a.m. at the funeral home.  Officiating will be the Rev. Karen Monk.

Interment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery, South Jewett.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.

FREEHOLD---Robert H. Quackenbush, 58, of Freehold, died on July 2, 2004 at the Albany Medical Center.

He was born in Cobleskill on Dec. 29, 1945, son of the late William A. and Grace (Doley) Quackenbush.

He was a foreman of the Town of Greenville Highway Department before ill health forced an early retirement.

Mr. Quackenbush enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping.  He also enjoyed traveling around the countryside and stopping at various garage sales.

Surviving are his wife Bonnie (Crandall) Quackenbush; a daughter, Melissa Quackenbush and grandson David Gabrielle;  also several brothers and sisters, Lillian Holbrook, Adelbert Quackenbush, Lynn Quackenbush, Donald Quackenbush, Bonnie VanDenberg, Virginia Everleth, Ellamae Twomey, EmmaJean Eichler and MaryJo Hynes; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers Paul and sister Wilene Quackenbush.

Memorial service will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.

As to his wishes, cremation was held at the Albany Rural Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Greenville Rescue Squad.

CATSKILL---Emily R. Hendricks, 92,  lifelong Catskill resident, died Monday, July 5, 2004 at Columbia Greene Long Term Care in Catskill.

A native Catskillian, Mrs. Hendricks was born Feb. 5, 1912, the daughter of the late David and Grace (Layman) Hamm.

Mrs. Hendricks was a homemaker.

She attended the South Cairo United Methodist Church and was a member of the Catskill Senior Fellowship.

Survivors include four sons, Raymond R. Hendricks of Saugerties; William K. Hendricks of Claysburg, Pa., Richard M. Hendricks of Catskill, and Alfred L. Hendricks of Catskill; two daughters, Rose M. Vandermark of Catskill, and Helen L. Ricks of Saugerties; brother, Arthur Hamm of Catskill; 12 grandchildren;15 great-grandchildren; one great-great grand-daughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hendricks was predeceased by her husband, Herbert R. Hendricks on Jan. 10, 1982.  She was also predeceased by two grandsons, Wayne Hendricks and John Hendricks; and a great-granddaughter, Rebecca Vandermark.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 8 at Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.  The Rev. Mary Hendricks, United Church of Christ in Claysburg, Pa., will be officiating.

Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, a(t) the funeral home prior to the funeral service.

Interment will follow in Catskill Rural Cemetery.

THOMAS JOHN LOMAX  
Former business manager for Catskill School District

LEEDS---Thomas John Lomax, 76, of Leeds, died Saturday, March 27, a(t) Columbia Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient.

A committal service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday July 7, in the Town of Catskill Cemetery.  Those attending may meet at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Mr. Lomax was born in Brooklyn on June 19, 1927 to the late Thomas and Louise Xeller Lomax.

Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy earning the rank of Seaman First Class and the Asiatic Pacific, American Area, and Victory Medals for his service during World War II.  He was discharged on July 23, 1946 and enrolled in New York University where he majored in Music and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree.  He married the former Nancy Stellman on Sept. 10, 1950 and they moved to Catskill.  He taught music at the Coxsackie Correctional Institution and three years later served as a loan officer in the Catskill National Bank and Trust Co.  Following years he was the Business Manager for the Catskill Central School District until his retirement in 1983.

He served  for 25 years as organist and choir director of the First Reformed Church in Catskill as well as Deacon, conducted the Treble Choraliers and Hudson Valley Choral Society.

Survivors include his wife Nancy Lomax of Leeds and their eight children, twin sons: Thomas of Purling and Timothy of Raleigh, N.C., Nancy Dolan of Catskill, Paul of Delason, Stephen of Flanders,  N.J., Elizabeth Barrett of Coxsackie, Ellen Donders of N.J., and Peter of Earlton; 14 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter.

Mr. Lomax was predeceased by his son, James Andrew Lomax and grandson, Edwar Rogers Jr.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 31 in the First Reformed Church, 310 Main Street, Catskill.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Private cremation conducted at the Albany Rural Crematorium following the funeral.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

FREEHOLD---Margaret L. Sullivan of Freehold, formerly of Naples, Fla., died Tuesday, July 6, 2004.

Survivors include children, Mary Dwyer and her husband Tom; Pat Sullivan (Dominick) and Eileen Alber and her husband Bruce; sisters of Florence, Alma and Mary; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Joseph.

Religious services will be held Friday at the Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home, 3863 Merrick Rd., Seaford, Long Island.

Interment will follow in the Long Island National Cemetery.

MELVIN HOFSTETTER
Organized local annual Soap Box Derby

HUDSON---Melvin Willis Hofstetter, 80, of Hudson, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004 after a long illness with his family and his wife at his side.

Born June 6, 1924 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Albert and Minnie (Monthie) Hofstetter.

Mr. Hofstetter was a lifelong member and faithful servant of Saint Matthew's Lutheran Church in Hudson and served as the church's secretary for several years.  He began playing the organ for the church in 1938 and had remained the church's organist until last year.  He was an active community member and helped organize the annual Soap Box Derby, directed the Walthour Youth League Choir, taught music lessons, participated as an instrumental judge in Columbia County parades and functions, and was a member of the Hoystradt Hose Fire Company.   He retired from teaching welding at Questar III in 1995 after spending many years at Interpace  and Canada Dry as a machinist.  Previously he was a carpenter in Hofstetter Construction Company, and a machinist and teacher at the Watervliet Arsenal during World War II.  His true passion was his family and he co-owned a painting business with his wife.  He was a devoted husband and father and his grandchildren were the light of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly (Campbell) Hofstetter; daughters, Johanne Thomas of Hudson, Katherine Mabb of Hudson, and Marlene Parmentier of Hudson; sons-in-law, John  Thomas and Charles Parmentier; six grandchildren, Benjamin Thomas of Brunswick, Jennifer Thomas of Rhinebeck, Jessica Goehring of Hudson, and Meghan, Christopher, and Caleigh Parmentier of Hudson;  several nieces and nephews including Clarence Hofstetter of Florida, Richard Hofstetter of Hudson and Marcia Ford of Schenectady. 

He was  predeceased by a brother, Clarence.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bates and Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green St., Hudson.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Saint Matthew's Church in Hudson.

WEST COXSACKIE---John R. Paige Jr., 40, of Kings Road, West Coxsackie, died July 6, 2004 at Albany Medical Center. 

He was born on Sept., 19, 1963, in Wilmington, Del., and was the son of John R. and Edith (Goulding) Paige Sr., of West Coxsackie.

Mr. Paige was a co-owner with David T. Hotaling of the Luxury Oil Express in Coxsackie.

He graduated from the Coxsackie High School in 1981, and enjoyed playing football while in school.

He was part of the Coxsackie Chamber of Commerce.  His hobbies included motorcycle riding and snowmobiling.  He was an avid outdoorsman, and jack of all trades.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his fiancee Betty J. Blancato of West Coxsackie; two stepdaughters, Krista and Brittany Blancato of West Coxsackie; two brothers, David M. Paige of Coxsackie and Stephen V. Paige of Earlton; his aunts Joan (Goulding) and husband Robert Carl of South Cairo, Marilyn (Federico) and husband Joseph Berlin of Coxsackie, Dorothy (Federico) and husband Kenneth Barker of Johannesburg, South Africa, Ruth (Federico) and husband Stephen Urand of Poulsbo, Wash.; uncles Robert Federico of Virginia and Roland and Fran Paige of Wilmington, Del., cousins Elizabeth Federico of Virginia, JoAnne Federico of California, Jamie Gooley of California, Abby Gooley of California, Carol and Mike Majewski and Andrew and Pat Haldin of Wilmington, Del.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the W.C. Brady's Sons Inc., Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Gospel Community Church, 121 Mansion St., Coxsackie, with the Rev. Stanley Slager officiating.  The day of the funeral everyone is asked to meet at the church.

Interment will follow in the family plot of the Cairo Cemetery.

MARGARET L. SULLIVAN

FREEHOLD---Margaret L. Sullivan, 85, of Freehold, formerly of Naples, Fla., died Tuesday, July 6, 2004.

Born in St. John's Newfoundland Jan. 13, 1919, she was the daughter of the late James and Alice Fleming.

Mrs. Sullivan was the owner and operator of a restaurant in Bethpage, L.I., for many years.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars both in Naples, Fla.  She became a Korean War widow when her husband, Joseph, was killed Nov. 30, 1950, just four months after the war began.

She was the beloved mother of her children, all survivors, Mary Dwyer and her husband Tom of Freehold, Patricia Sullivan and Dominick Germano of Seaford, Long Island, Eileen Alber and her husband Bruce of Seaford; sisters of Florence, Alma and Mary; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased  her husband, her parents, and siblings, Annie, Agnes, Joan, Jack and Dick.

Calling hours will be today 7 to 9 p.m. at the Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home, 3863 Merrick Road, Seaford, L.I.  Religious services will be held Friday, 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in the Long Island National Cemetery.

CATSKILL---Shirley Elaine Gardner, 80, of Catskill, died Saturday, July 11, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson where she had been a patient since June 26.

Mrs. Gardner was born Dec. 22, 1923 in Catskill to the late Harold and Olga McMillan Hardwick.

She attended Catskill High School and was the wife of the late John C. "Jack" Gardner, with whom she founded Continental Cadets Drum Corps and assisted him at the family restaurant, The Sunflower Cafe, formerly on West Bridge Street.

Survivors include her sons, Donald L. Gardner of Leeds, and his wife Charlene Gardner; daughter-in-law, Margaret Gardner of Catskill; four grandchildren:  John Gardner, Jacqueline Gardner Murray, Donald Gardner Jr., and Todd Gardner; four great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gardner was predeceased by her husband, John C. Gardner on June 19, 1983; son, John H. Gardner on Jan. 22, 2002;  three sisters, Deanne Dunn, Myrtle Vespucci and Betty Hardwick; brother, Kenneth Hardwick.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 14 in the Remembrance Chapel of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home.

Interment will follow in the Town of Catskill Cemetery.

PRATTSVILLE---Frances Rathbone, 79, of Prattsville, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at Margaretville Hospital, Margaretville, NY.

Born Dec. 18, 1924 in North Lexington, NY, she was the daughter of the late  Hilton and Mabel Deyo Smith.

She was married to the late Oliver Rathbone.

Mrs. Rathbone loved her family and was an avid deer hunter and sportswoman playing softball, bowling, golfing and she loved her many friends that she played with at the Windham Golf Course.  She was a plant worker, employed by Greene Delaware Packing in Prattsville.

Survivors include her daughter, Judy Wyckoff of Gilboa, NY; a son, Jack Rathbone; grandchildren, Debbie Rathbone, Rachel Rathbone, Scott Mattice, Patrick Mattice, John Wyckoff, Marilyn  Wyckoff; great-grandchildren, Gregg Mattice, Geoff Mattice; and nieces and nephews, Dorothy Every, Gene Every and Barry Every.

Beside her husband, she was predeceased by her sons Dean, and Donald Rathbone, and a nephew Sid Vining.

Callings hours are Tuesday, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main St., Windham.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the funeral home.  Services will be conducted by Pastor Christina of the Gilboa Methodist Church.

Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Prattsville.

CAIRO---Martha M. Rooney, 66 of 365 Bross St., Cairo, died suddenly Saturday, July 10, 2004 at her residence.

Born in the Bronx, Nov. 17, 1937, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Hosty) Hughes.

Mrs. Rooney moved from the Bronx to Cairo 10-1/2 months ago, making her home on Bross Street.  She was a communicant of the Lady of the Assumption Church in the Bronx.  Prior to her retirement she was employed as a bus driver for M.T.A. of New York City.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Quinn of Cairo and the Bronx; two brothers, John and Jude Hosty both of Schenectady; three grandchildren, James Quinn, and William and Michael Rooney.

Besides her parents she is predeceased by a son William Rooney.

Private cremation took place Tuesday at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.

Memorial services to be announced at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction on the Richards Funeral Home, Bross Street, Cairo.

EARLTON---Edward H. Conrad, 85, of Rudolph Weir Road, Earlton, died July 12, 2004, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

He was born in Earlton, Aug. 25, 1918, and was the son of the late Philip and Conelia (Forbes) Conrad.

Mr. Conrad is a lifetime area resident and was a well-known farmer and mechanic in the area.

Surviviors include two sons, Charles Conrad of Rochester, Carter Conrad of Tacoma, Wash., two daughters, Carole Griner of Voorheesville; Cherie Conrad of Rochester; a brother Philip Conrad Jr., of Colonie; a sister, Mary Ellen Scofield of Rensselaer; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Richards Funeral Home, Bross St, Cairo.

Funeral services will take place 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Harrison Putnam of the Zion Lutheran Church of Athens officiating.

HAINES FALLS---Ronald Kerr Hoose, 66, of Haines Falls, died at home after a long illness on Monday July 12, 2004.

Born in Tannersville, July 5, 1938, he was the son of the late Carl and Cora Kerr Hoose.

Mr. Hoose was an army veteran serving 1959-1961, former chief of the Haines Falls Fire Department in the late 1960s, president of the Mountaintop Animal Friends and known as Old Rip and played the role of Rip VanWinkle for the last 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene Morales Hoose of Haines Falls; son, Randy Hoose and his wife Nancy; daughter, Cindy and her husband John Parker; sisters, Thelma and her husband Steven Dean, Ellen Pierce, Corrine and her husband Michael Preziotti; cousins, Barbara Sox and Coverly Chapman; stepchildren, Sandy and her husband Marty Alexander, Ward Apgar and his wife Colleen, Cindy and her husband Robert Mallory, Christine and her husband Thomas Houlihan and 10 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his cousin, Patricia Aimar.

Calling hours are Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, 7742 Main St., Hunter.

Funeral services will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at the Kaaterskill United  Methodist Church in Haines Falls.  Officiating will be the Rev. Karen Monk.

Cremation was held at the Wiltwyck Rural Crematory in Kingston.

Interment will take place in the Haines Falls Cemetery.

PRATTSVILLE---Thomas O'Hara, 76, of Prattsville, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

Born March 16, 1928 in Steubenville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Albert and Clara (Kipp) O'Hara.

Mr. O'Hara was the proprietor of the O'Hara's Trading Post, a family owned business for more than 50 years in Prattsville. He was a member of the Prattsville Fire Company, Virgil E. Deyo American Legion Post in Prattsville and Scotch Valley Ski Patrol.

Survivors include his wife whom he married June 6, 1948,  Betty Y. (Hubbard) O'Hara; children, Michael O'Hara, Mary O'Hara, Ann O'Hara Gurecki, Erin O'Hara Meyer;  eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; cousin, Olive Cronk VanAken; and many  nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by two sisters, Mary Lou O'Hara Wade and Christine O'Hara Daly.

Calling hours will be held at the Decker Funeral Home Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Friday at noon at the St. Philip Neri R.C. Church, Grand Gorge.

He was born March 15, 1945 in Nova Scotia, the son of William and Lydia Mae MacDonald.

He was a truck driver for Haines Oil and a member of the Saugerties Elks.

Survivors include his wife, the former Christine Morrissey; five sons, John Tritto, David MacDonald, John MacDonald, Robert Zolzer, and Steven Zolzer; a daughter, Elizabeth Stahtam, a sister, Lois Gorman; three brothers, John, Robert, and James MacDonald; and a companion, Kathy Steindl.  Also survived by 10 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. MacDonald was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and Thomas MacDonald.

Funeral services will be conducted 8 p.m. Friday at the Buono Funeral Service Inc., Main Street Chapel, Saugerties.

CATSKILL---Werner Stoever, 84, a long time former Catskill resident died on Monday, July 12, in Concord, N.H. after a long illness.

He was born in Hamburg, Germany to the late Hermann and Frieda (Schroeder) Stoever on Nov. 18, 1919.

He was a tool and die maker for many years before he and his wife Gertrud became the owners and operators of Stoever's Restaurant on Route 32 in Catskill.

While living in Catskill, from 1957 until 1994, he was a member of Catskill Masonic Lodge 468, a Shriner, Elks Lodge No. 1341, and the Kiskatom Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Gertrud (Biedermann) Stoever of Concord, N.H.; son, Holger Stoever of Catskill and his wife, Christine; grandson, Eric Stoever; two nephews: Ronald Rieseberg of Catskill and Freedo Rieseberg of Colorado.

Mr. Stoever was predeceased by his brother, Herbert Stoever and sister, Kathe Rieseberg.

Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.  Members of the Masonic Lodge are requested to attend 8 p.m. services.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 17, in the Remebrance Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. David C. Tipple, pastor of the Kiskatom Reformed Church officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

WEST COXSACKIE---Sandra R. Kazsek, 56, of 274 Scheller Park Road, West Coxsackie, died July 14, 2004, at her residence after a four year illness.

She was born in Kingston,  Aug. 6, 1947,  and was the daughter of the late William R. and Leona (Hunt) Reilly, Sr.

She and her husband owned and operated Steve's Meat Market on Route 32, Greenville, and recently opened a new location on Route 9W, Athens, across from the Athens Generating Plant.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Saugerties.

She married her husband Steve, Aug. 6, 1967, on her 20th birthday.

She is survived by her husband Steve  Kazsek of West Coxsackie; three sisters, Maryann Every and Elizabeth Dahl, both of Kingston, and Marjorie Caruso of Jupiter, Fla., and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Private cremation took place July 15 at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.

A memorial service in her memory will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, at the W.C. Brady's Sons Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St. Coxsackie, with the Rev. Diane Smith, pastor of the Dutch Reformed Church of Prattsville officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

CATSKILL---Harold Hauver, 84, a resident of the Pavilion in Catskill, died Friday, July 9, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital Emergency Room, Hudson.

Born in Catskill, Nov. 21, 1919, he was the son of the late Frederick and Mina Beare Hauver.

He was a graduate of Catskill High School and served in the military during World War II, and he was employed by New York Telephone in Poughkeepsie as a lineman for over 30 years.  In his retirement he enjoyed woodworking and hunting.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Martha Gautier Hauver; and several nieces and nephews including Nina Lembke and her husband Ernest S. Lembke of Catskill.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Sherwood Hauver in 1969.

Private entombment was conducted Thursday at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery under the direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

GREENSBORO, N.C.---Vivian Robinson, 66, of Greensboro and Catskill, died Sunday, July 11, 2004 at Greensboro, N.C., where she resided for the past ten years.

Born Sept. 20, 1937 in Warrenton, Ga., she was the fourth of 16 children born to the late Mattie Will and William Henry Tarver.

Mrs. Robinson was educated in Warrenton.  In December 1957 she, along with her only daughter, Velvet L. Tarver, moved to Catskill where she was employed with the American Valve Company and Eden Park Nursing Home until her retirement  in 1994.  She relocated to Greensboro where she resided for the past 10 years and was employed by Friend Home Inc.  At an early age she received Christ and was baptized in a country creek at the William Grove Baptist Church in Warrenton.  She became a faithful member of the Second Baptist Church in Catskill where she diligently served in many capacities which included the senior choir, Usher Board and the Hospitality Aide.  In Greensboro she united with the Mannasseh Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Barry; daughter, Velvet of Greensboro; surrogate daughter, Mary Lynn Walters (Alberto) of  Troy; two surrogate sons, Pedro Tandy of Greensboro, and Anthony Tarver of Schenectady; son-in-law, Anthony Chapman of New York City; five stepchildren, Mike of New Jersey, Teddy of New York City, Donovan of Jamaica, West Indies, Marsha and Marie of Hudson;  five grandchildren, Samia Shaw of Greensboro, Adonis Walters of Troy, Ashley Tandy of Missouri, Alisha Tandy of Washington, DC and Antonio Tarver of Colonie; great grandchild, Amaree Chapman of Greensboro; nine sisters, Elnora Smith of Catskill, Katie Cox (James), Marjorie Koonce, Annie and Felicia Tarver, Willie Mae Perrin, Cathy Cancer (Gaston) of Albany, and Helen Gross of Troy; three brothers, Milton Watson (Carol), Willis Watson (Virginia) of Catskill, and David Tarver (Aurelia) of Syracuse; four sisters-in-law, Deloris Tarver of Virginia Beach, VA, Kathleen Tandy of Syracuse, Debbie and Diane Robinson; brother-in-law, Godfrey; two Godsons, Darryl Jordan of Catskill and Darvin Gross Jr. (Teco) of Albany;  one Goddaughter, Quashonda Perrin of Iowa; a special nephew, Conrad Robinson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, sisters and brothers in Christ and extended family members which will all sorely miss her.

ATHENS---Ferdinand (Fred) A. Deubert, 89, of Athens, died Friday, July 16, 2004.

Born in Heilbronn, Germany, on Nov. 16, 1914 to Ferdinand and Lina (Wertheim) Deubert, he came to the United States in 1927 with his parents and siblings.  Ferdinand attended school in Kingston, before moving to Coxsackie.

He served in the Merchant Marine in the Pacific during World War II.  He earned his license as a diesel engineer and worked for many years as chief engineer on the tugboat, Samson, for Standard Oil.

After leaving Standard Oil, he worked as a stationary engineer for New York State at Coxsackie Correctional until his retirement.  He was a licensed ham radio operator and a member of the Rip Van Winkle Amateur Radio Society.

Ferdinand was predeceased by his brother Helmut and sister-in-law Hazel Deubert and nephew Wayne Morgan.

He is survived by his sister Irene (Ted) Morgan of Florida, nephews Roy Morgan of Florida and Michael (Linda) Deubert of Coxsackie and great-nephews Mark and Brian Deubert.   He is also survived by his dear friends John and Debra Mumbly of Catskill.  

Friends may call at the Sopris Funeral Home, Inc. 11877 Rte 9W, Coxsackie, on Sunday, July 18 from 6:00-7:30 p.m.  A memorial service will follow at 7:30 p.m.

Born March 1, 1998 in Albany, he was the son of Craig and Elaine (Atwood) Henderson, of Greenport.

Bradley was a student at the John L. Edwards School.  He was known to his classmates and the staff as "The Mayor of John L. Edwards."

He was a member of the Hudson Power  Boat T-Ball League.

In addition to his parents, surviving are his brother, Tyler Henderson of Greenport; his maternal grandparents, Dick and Donna Atwood of Hillsdale; his paternal grandparents, Archie and Iris Henderson of Germantown; two uncles, Stephen Atwood of Webster, Ma., and Steven Henderson of Germantown; two aunts, Susan Henderson of Germantown and Dawn Shufelt of Valatie, and several cousins.

HUDSON---William "Bill" Siddall, 89, formerly of Hunter, died Friday, July 16, 2004 at the Firemen's Home where he had been a resident since May of 2003.

He was born in Massachusetts on Aug. 28, 1914.

Mr. Siddall was the owner and operator of Sterling's Food Store, the Victory Market and the IGA in Hunter.  He was also for many years the Village Clerk in Hunter and was then Deputy Clerk until two years ago.

He was a life member of the Hunter Fire Department and a member of the Hunter Masons.

Surviving are his three daughters, Robin Siddall of Hunter, Janet Siddall Blake of Chapin, S.C., and Dale Cunningham of Choctaw, Ok.; three step-children, Gerald Lawrence of Lexington, Richard Lawrence of Tannersville, and Janet Nichols of Hunter; two brothers, George Siddall and Aaron Siddall; his sister, Alice Siddall; five grandchildren, Heidi Webb of Virgina, Tara Schneider of Troy, Kirby Schneider of South Carolina, Amber Spurgeon of Choctaw, Ok., and William Caswell II  of Tannersville; two great-grandsons, Daniel Webb of Virginia and Kameron Spurgeon of Choctaw, Ok., and several nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie (Brandow) Siddall.

Born in Coxsackie on Jan. 15, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Nocera) Votta.

Rose was a communicant at St. Mary's R.C. Church in Coxsackie, a member of the Alter-Rosary Society, a charter member of the Columbiettes  #548, an auxillary member of Coxsackie Hose #3 and a member of the Greene  County Office of the Aging.   She was very active in many volunteer organizations.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Lammly of Selkirk and Christopher Lammly of Milton, Vermont; two daughters, Sharon Costello of Loudonville and Mary Rose Kelley of Dedham, Massachusetts; a brother, Michael Votta and wife Barbara of Coxsackie; a sister, Mrs. Alfred (Julia) Daoust of Coxsackie; a brother-in-law, Patrick Alcuri of Coxsackie; nine grandchildren, Carlene, Michela, Adriana and Michael Costello, Adam and Andrew Lammly and Patrick, Kara and Kathryn Kelley; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wallace and many nieces and nephews.

Born March 26, 1920 in Eltmann, Germany, she was the daughter of the late John and Maria (Kirchner) Haus.

Barbara was a communicant at St. Patrick's R.C. Church in Catskill.  She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court Theresa #277 and St. Patrick's Rosary-Altar Society.

Mrs. Oettinger was predeceased by her husband, William J. Oettinger on Aug. 20, 1974; and by a sister, Katherine Horner.

Born in Coxsackie on Jan. 15, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Nocera) Votta.

Rose was a communicant at St. Mary's R.C. Church in Coxsackie, a member of the Altar-Rosary Society, a charter member of the Columbiettes No. 548, an auxillary member of Coxsackie Hose #3 and a member of the Greene County Office of the Aging.  She was very active in many volunteer organizations.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Lammly and wife Alice of Selkirk and Christopher Lammly and wife Andrea of Milton, Vt.;  two daughters, Sharon Costello and husband Michael of Loudonville and Mary Rose Kelley and husband Joseph of Dedham, Mass.; a brother Michael Votta and wife Barbara of Coxsackie; a sister Julia Daoust and husband Alfred  of Coxsackie; a brother-in-law, Patrick Alcuri of Coxsackie; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wallace of Coxsackie; nine grandchildren, Carlene, Michela, Adriana and Michael Costello, Adam and Andrew Lammly and Patrick, Kara and Kathryn Kelley; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Lena Alcuri.

TANNERSVILLE---Lynn Glueck Cole, 52, of Tannersville, died Sunday, July 18, 2004 at home following a short fight with cancer.

Mrs. Cole was born Jan. 22, 1952 to Albert Glueck and the late Barbara Glueck.

Mrs. Cole was the branch manager of the Bank of Greene County and member of the Haines Falls Fire Department, the Tannersville Area Health Committee, the order of the Easter Star, the Greene County Chamber of Commerce and the Department of the Aging.

Surviving are her husband Edward Cole and daughter Kimberly Cole both of Tannersville and father Albert Glueck of Tannersville.

Mrs. Cole was predeceased by her mother Barbara Glueck and brother Albert J. Glueck Jr.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday from the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, 7742 Main Street, Hunter.

Mrs. Mall was born in Puerto Rico Feb. 20, 1920 and was a seamstress.  Her husband, Henry Mall , died Feb 19, 1980 when they were residing on Mill Road in Palenville.

Survivors include a son, Eugene R. Mall, of Cairo.

Private cremation on Monday at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands was under the direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

COXSACKIE---Kenneth Wesley Wood Jr., 62, died suddenly on July 16, 2004 at his home.

Born April 16, 1942 in Catskill he lived his entire life in the Coxsackie/Earlton area and attended Coxsackie-Athens Central School.

As a youth Mr. Wood loved exploring and fishing in the Hudson River with his father or pals.

He worked as a lineman for Runckle Utility; owned and operated "Ye Olde Auto Shoppe" at the bottom of Mansion Street Hill; then a foreman for 30 years for Conrail (now CSX).  He was anticipating retirement early next year.

For someone who jokingly said he didn't like to get too far out of Greene County, Kenny touched many peoples' lives during his lifetime.  He was a teacher, mentor and father confessor of sorts to his many friends--always there to give of his time and talents.  But mostly, he was the best friend anyone could ever want.  Your untimely death has left a big hole in our lives and hearts, Kenny Wood.

Survivors include his sons, Heath Wesley Wood, Chris Alan Wood of Florida and Craig J. Quintana (step-son) of Ravena;  brother, Jeffrey Wood and family of Athens and cousins.  He has four grandchildren:  Heather Leigh Wood and Tyler Wesley Wood of Coeymans Hollow and Jamine and Kira Quintana of Greenville and Coxsackie respectively and his former wife, Lillian Quintana Wood.

NORTON HILL---Leonard A. Gardiner, 87, of Norton Hill, died on July 19, 2004 at the Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill.

He was born in Greenville Center on Aug. 17, 1916, son of the late Leonard and Helen (Story) Gardiner.

He served in the U.S.  Army Air Corps being a B-17 Pilot and discharged as a First Lieutenant.  He served with the 353rd Bomb Squadron in the Mediterranean Theater, the Rhineland, PO Valley and the Northern Apennines.  He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and a Air Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters.

Very active in the Community, Mr. Gardiner served the Town of Greenville as Highway Superintendent from 1948-1951, was also a Town Justice for 14 years.

He was also well regarded as a Sawyer Lumberman and worked at GHN Lumber Inc. and also had a small insurance business and was very proud of his L.B.J. Plumbing and Electrical business located in Norton Hill.

He was also a school bus driver and a member of the Greenville American Legion Post 291, the Tri-Town Memorial Post V.F.W. Post 7229, a life member of the Greenville Volunteer Fire Company, a member of the Greenville-Norton Hill United Methodist Church, the Greene County Historical Society and the Greenville Historical  Society and was a past member of the Greenville Rotary Club and the Knights of Pythias.

Surviving are his loving nieces, nephews and his many friends.

Mr. Gardiner was predeceased by his beloved Claribel (Ingalls) Gardiner, a sister, Viola Becker and his very special nephew James Adams.

A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at the Greenville-Norton Hill United Methodist Church in Norton Hill.

Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Greenville Rescue Squad or the Greenville Library.

CATSKILL---John E. Lynch, 84, of 12 Country Club Estates, retired superintendent of Catskill Central School District, died at his home in Catskill on July 20, 2004.

He was born Jan. 9, 1920 in Syracuse, N.Y., the son of the late Edward and Anna (Kamosky) Lynch.

Mr. Lynch attended school in Syracuse and was a graduate of Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science Degree.  His graduate work was completed at SUNY at Albany.

His long career in the field of education began in September 1942 at the Cairo Central School where he taught Physical Education.  His career was interrupted in 1944 when he enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed at Treasure Island in San Francisco.  Mr. Lynch received his honorable discharge, returned to Cairo and resumed his teaching career in 1946.

In 1956, he was appointed Principal of Cairo Central School for eight years.  In 1962, he became a Supervisor of Secondary Education in the New York State Education Department for a period of seven years.

Mr. Lynch was appointed Superintendent of Catskill Central School District and retired in 1978, thus ending his 36-year career in education.

Jack was a long-time active member of the Catskill Golf Club.  He was a communicant at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Catskill; a life member of the New York State School Superintendents Association; and a former member of the Catskill Elks Lodge 1341.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mrs. Trudy (Kozak) Lynch of Catskill;  two children, Martha Duggan of Windsor, California, and John Lynch and companion Natasha Myers, both of LaGarita, Colorado; three grandchildren, Art Thomas III and his wife Ruth of Dublin, California, Tara Elashry and husband Samei of Astoria, N.Y., and John Patrick Lynch of Dorset, Vermont; a brother, Joseph Boehm and wife Dorothy of Syracuse; a sister-in-law, Margot Lynch of Bradenton, Florida, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mr. Lynch was predeceased by a brother, Michael E. Lynch.

POUGHKEEPSIE---Susan M. Stella, 52, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, died Monday, July 19, 2004, surrounded by her family at the New York Presbyterian Hospital after a brave battle with leukemia.

Born Sept. 26, 1951, Sue, as she preferred to be called, was a life long resident of Poughkeepsie.  She was the daughter of Elsie M. Diesing and the late Nicholas F. Paternoster.

A 1969 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, she was employed by Coldwell Banker Currier Lazier Realtors as a Real Estate Broker prior to her illness.  She married her husband James J. Stella on Jan. 22, 1983.  Together they raised three children, Scott of Poughkeepsie and Lori and Danny, both of whom reside at home.  She enjoyed many hobbies including cooking, gardening, crafts and painting.  Most of all she enjoyed her family.

Beside her children, survivors include her mother, Elsie M. Paternoster of Poughkeepsie; one sister, Kathleen M. Lewis and her husband Bob Lewis and their son Michael of Catskill; plus many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother Nicholas Jr. in 1973.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parmele Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie.

ROUND TOP---George A. True Jr., 74, died at his home in Round Top, July 20, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Albany on Sept. 11, 1929, he was a lifelong resident of Round Top.

He was a communicant of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Cairo.

He was raised at the family boarding house in Round Top, known as the Round Top House.  His family briefly lived in East Hartford, Connecticutt, during World War II.  After graduation from Cairo Central School in 1948, he joined the United States Marine Corps. and saw active duty during the Korean War Conflict in artillery and line communications.  He was honorably discharged in 1952 after obtaining the rank of Sergeant.

He was employed by the New York Telephone Company and Hutton Brick Yard, before starting with IBM in Kingston in the manufacturing division and later as a contractor coordinator.  He was a member of the Quarter Century Club and retired from IBM after 31 years in 1987.

Mr. True loved to hunt, travel, dance and listen to German style music.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Dorothy  Mulraney True; two daughters, Sherry True of Baltimore, Maryland and Susan True of Catskill; a son, George A. True III, his wife Kathryn, and two grandchildren, Jonathan and Rowan of Cairo, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. True was predeceased by his mother, Vivian H. Bowles True and his father George A. True Sr., both formerly of Round Top, and a sister, Delores Bradley of Merced, California.

GERMANTOWN---Ralph C. Risch Jr., 69, of Lasher Avenue, Germantown, died Monday, July 19, 2004 at his residence.

Born April 26, 1935 in Hudson,  he was the son of the late Frances (Miller) Risch and Ralph C. Risch Sr.

Mr. Risch was employed as a painter at the Firemen's Home until retiring.

Mr. Risch served in the United States Army Third Army Armored Division from 1958 until 1960, earning the Good Conduct Medal, and the Army Reserve from 1960-1962.  He also served with the National Guard 152nd Engineers from 1956 until 1958.

He lived in the Hudson area all of his life.

Surviving are four sons, Ralph C. Risch III of Stottville; Lawrence L. Risch of Germantown; and Robert J. Risch and Michael J. Risch, both of Athens; a brother Dennis Risch of Ghent; two sisters, Viola Snyder of Hudson and Margaret Welch of West Ghent; nine grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Janice Beebe Risch.

EAST BERNE---Harry Garry, 95, died peacefully at his home Thursday, July 22, 2004.

Born in Newark, New Jersey to the late Charles and Maria Garry, he moved to the Helderbergs as a young man when his family bought the farm in East Berne in the 1930s.

Harry had many varied talents and interests and was always eager to learn more.  He was active in Soil Conservation programs.  He was an original member of the Albany County Farm Bureau, serving as President for 13 years and also as Vice President of the NYS Farm Bureau from 1976 to 1978.  In these capacities, Mr. Garry worked with governors and legislators for the good of state farming communities, including changes in the Federal Estate Taxes.

He was one of the first farmers to grow certified Empire Birdsfoot Trefoil, and he convinced Governor Dewey to push to have this legume planted on the sides of all state roads.

Harry was well known as the "Singing Farmer,"  and in his earlier days took part in local radio and television programs, sharing his homespun philosophy and musical gifts.

He was a prolific author and was widely recognized around the state for his articles and commentary.  His columns often appeared in The Altamont Enterprise, the Greene County News and The Daily Mail.

In later years, he ran a farm seed and twine business.  Harry deeply loved his community and strove to preserve and nurture its unique and beautiful qualities.  He was chairman of numerous committees with the East Berne Businessmen's Association, was instrumental in the continuation of the East Berne Post Office, including the establishment of a rural postal route and helped to charter the East Berne Vol. Fire Co.  He was responsible for helping to straighten Route 443 in East Berne and assisted in getting East Berne included in the Capital District telephone system.

He was the beloved husband of Dr. Margery Smith.  Survivors also include his children:  Charles Garry and his wife Anina LaCour of East Berne, Franklyn Garry and his wife Ragan Adams and their son Samuel Garry of Fort Collins, Colorado; Johanna Halsey and her husband Mark and their sons Justin and Trevor of Red Hook, N.Y.; Elizabeth Garry and her partner Betsy von Mechow and their children Bonnie and Jacob von Mechow and Nathaniel Garry, all of South New Berlin, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, David Michael Garry and by two brothers, George and Francis Garry.

MAPLECREST---Edward F. Sallie, 92, died peacefully at St. Peter's Hospital on July 23, 2004.

Born on Sept. 19, 1911 in New York City, he was the son of the late Thomas and Nora Sallie.  He lived more than 30 years in Westbury, New York before moving to Maplecrest.

Ed was employed by Lord & Taylor for over 40 years before taking a position with Ski Windham in the lodging department where he worked until March of this year.

A veteran of World War II, Ed served in the Third Infantry Division and saw combat action in North Africa, Sicily, Anzio and up the boot of Italy into Austria, France and Germany.  He was proud of his military service and all of America's Armed Forces.  He was the Grand Marshall of the 2002 Windham Memorial Day parade.

He was married to his beloved Eleanor (nee Nickola) for 49 years.  Eleanor predeceased him on Dec. 10, 1994.

Ed loved animals and was always surrounded by a bevy of  dogs and cats.  He also loved singing, antiquing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Ellen Esposito and her husband Frank of Saratoga Springs and Noreen Daly and her husband Andy of Rutland, MA; a son, Edward Jr. and his wife Jo Ann of Lynbrook, NY; eight grand children, Andrew Esposito of Redondo Beach, CA, Kevin Esposito of Myrtle Beach, SC, Tara Esposito of Saratoga Springs, Andrew John, Katie and Brigit Daly all of Worcester, MA and Sean and Michael Sallie of Rockville Centre, NY.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 25 at the Decker Funeral Home in Windham.  A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Ed's life will be held at St. Theresa's R.C. Church in Windham on Monday, July 26 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Nunan the celebrant.  Interment will follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Ashland.

Mrs. Sterritt was born in Brooklyn on Aug. 31, 1907 to the late Walter and Stella Devine Stanley.

She had summer vacationed in this area with her family for many years before permanently moving to Athens upon her marriage to the late Ernest Sterritt on Dec. 12, 1933.  In her youth she had been a seamstress in a dress factory and a laundress.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Sandra Riley Sterritt of Schodack Landing; six grandchildren:  Mark Sterritt of Athens, James L. Sterritt of Pittsfield, Mass., Mrs. Dale (Suzanne) Tratnack of Hannacroix, Jeffrey Sterritt of Greenville, Thomas Sterritt of Coxsackie, and Allene Sterritt of Schodack Landing; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; three brothers: Walter Sterritt of Ithica, John Sterritt of Lindenhurst, and Charles Sterritt of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sterritt was predeceased by three sisters, her son, James K. Sterritt on July 4, 1995 and husband Ernest  "Pete" Sterritt on April 15, 1999.

Calling hours will be conducted 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, Catskill.

CAIRO---John "Kupcake"  Kupchinskas, 87, of Mountain Avenue, Cairo, died Monday, July 26, 2004, at Columbia Greene Long Term Care in Catskill.

Born Dec. 16, 1916 in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late John and Agnes (Sckciezius) Kuupchinskas.

Mr. Kupchinskas was employed by the A & P Tea Company in Brooklyn.  A Greene County resident since 1973, he was later employed as a Postal Carrier in Cairo prior to his retirement.  He loved salt water fishing for flounder, dancing, pool, poker and the ponies.

Survivors include a son, Jack Kupchinskas of Doylestown, PA; a daughter, Dianna Farino of Sarasota, Fla.;  daughter-in-law, Gail Kupchinskas of Doylestown, PA; son-in-law, Frank Farino of Sarasota, Fla.; sister, Lillian Baylor of Parsippany, NJ; a step-son, Roland Schroth of Cairo; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Private cremation was performed at Park View Cemetery in Schenectady.  A memorial remembrance will be observed 2:30 p.m. Sept 14, 2004 at the Columbia Greene Long Term Care, 161 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, NY 12414.

WESTERLO---Eva Blair Lord, 100, of Westerlo, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.

Eva, known fondly to many generation in the Westerlo community as "Aunt Eva,"  was born in Danvers, Mass., on May 23, 1904.

She was the daughter of the late Napoleon and Hegwidge (Goodreau) Blair, formerly of Quebec, Canada.

Mrs. Lord was a loving sister growing up in a large family and spent her childhood helping to take care of her five other siblings in Cohoes.  After sometime the family relocated to Westerlo, where their father began to operate a dairy farm.  It was there she met and married the late Archie Reynolds Lord.

In 1945, she began her career as a cook at the old Westerlo Grade School.  It was then she was asked to help for a mere two weeks, which turned into a 27 year culinary adventure.  Being both creative and deeply caring to all of the school children, Mrs. Lord produced meals which were both nutritious and fun.  Children looked forward to tray decoration, holiday food shapes and special desserts that routinely transformed dull into delicious.

Mrs. Lord was a member of the Westerlo Reformed Church, Ladies Aid Society, the Westerlo Historical Society, the New York State School Food Service Association and the Hilltowns Senior Citizens.

Survivors include one son, Howard F. Lord of Hannacroix, two grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 31, at the Cunningham Funeral Home, Route 81, Greenville.

Interment will be in the Westerlo Rural Cemetery.

A reception will be held immediately following at the Westerlo Dutch Reformed Church.

Born in Scranton, Pa., on May 12, 1937, she was the daughter of late  Max and Anna (Buchner) Wimmer.

Maxine and her late husband Otto owned and operated the O'Neill House in East Durham, a family operated business for over 50 years.

A member of the Greene County Resort Association, member of the Senior Companion of Greene  County, Community Action and Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Knock of Shrine Council, Ladies Auxiliary.

Mrs. Ohle will be remembered by her family as a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include two daughters, Theresa Boncales and her husband Jack of Ridgefield Park, N.J., and Mary McGahan and her husband Thomas of East Durham, a son Timothy Ohle and his wife Florence also of East Durham, seven grandchildren, Jack, Victoria, Brooke, Stephen, Beverly, Max, and Thomas.

Late in life Maxine was reunited with siblings she did not know she had, also surviving are her sisters Carol Linton, Joyce Rey, Barbara Stroud, Peg Seifert, and a brother, John Houston.

Mrs. Ohle was predeceased by her husband Otto Ohle and a son Stephen Ohle.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Cunningham Funeral Home 4898 State Route 81, Greenville.

Born June 12, 1935 in Granville, NY, he was the son of the late Warren and Violet (King) Woodard.

Mr. Woodard served in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.  He was employed as a vocational instructor at Coxsackie Correctional Facility prior to his retirement in November 1998.

Survivors include four children, Bridgett Deyo of Catskill, Michael Woodard of Lynchburg, VA, Michelle Woodard of Granville, and Lori Ann Bartram of Vermont; companion and long-time friend, Marion Wagoner of Catskill and her children, Christopher Wagoner, Richard Wagoner, Vincent Boice, and James Rae; two brothers, Otis Woodard of West Pawlett, VT, Lynn Woodard of Concord, NH; four sisters, Madeline Hildenbrand of Catskill, Joan Mattison of Wells, VT, Virginia Gould of Pawlett, VT, and Gail Dayton of Bristol, CT; nine grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church of Coxsackie, and loved crafts and gardening.  She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Medway-Grapeville Fire Company.

Survivors include a sister Marion Dellisanti of Wantagh, Long Island , N.Y., a nephew Nicholas A. Dellisanti also of Wantagh, a cousin Richard Altieri of New Jersey, a great-nephew Nicholas Jr. a great niece Kyisten, and a great-great niece Nicole.

Besides her parents, Mrs. Woods was predeceased by her husband Robert A. Woods.

COXSACKIE---Carol J. Cameron, 63, a lifelong resident of Coxsackie, died Friday, July 23, 2004 at the Community Hospice of Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Born Dec. 25, 1940 in Catskill, she was the daughter of Mildred Mead and the late Daniel Cameron.

Ms. Cameron was a clerk for 35 years in the New York State Department of Civil Service, retiring in 1995.  She was a 1960 graduate of Coxsackie-Athens High School, a member of the United Methodist Church of Coxsackie and a member and chaplain of the Kaksakee Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her mother, Mildred Cameron of Coxsackie; cousins Judith Humphries and Keith Humphries, both of  Dunmallen, Fla.,  Patty Lederman of Schenectady, Virginia and Paul Moran of Scotia, Arlene Beck and Mary Friello, both of Duanesburg, and Kathy Richel.

A memorial service celebrating Carol's life will be held Friday evening 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 103 Mansion St., Coxsackie.  Rev. Retta Lykens will officiate.

RENSSELAER---Lisa Marie Corratti, 38, of Rensselaer, died at St. Peter's Hospital, Tuesday morning July 27, 2004 after a four-year battle with cancer.

She was the beloved daughter of Patricia M. Briggs of East Greenbush, and New Port Richey, Fla., and was the loving sister of Joseph E. Vriale of Cairo, who were at her side when God called her home.

Born on Feb. 19, 1966, Lisa grew up in Greene County, living on Sandy Plains Road in South Cairo.  She attended Cairo-Durham Central School prior to moving to Rensselaer County where she attended Hudson Valley Community College.

In 1984, she was first employed as a student intern with the New York State Department of Corrections at their Training Academy on New Scotland Avenue, and later became a full-time employee for eight years.

In 1995, she joined the New York State Bill Drafting Commission, working in their Purchasing Department as a Clerk until illness forced her disability in November of 2003.

Lisa was a very gregarious person who always had a smile on her face and sparkle in her eye.  She loved traveling, especially in Florida, where she had family and friends or to visit Walt Disney World and Universal Studios.

Survivors include her mother and her brother, as well as a great aunt, Bernadine Quinn of Bayshore, Long Island; her uncles, Ernest Briggs of Phoenix, Ariz., Robert Briggs of Palm Springs, CA. and Edward Briggs of South Cairo; her aunt Maureen Ricci of Freehold; numerous cousins and other family members.  Lisa is also survived by her father, Frank Corratti Jr. of Cairo, his sister Rose Law and his daughter, Laura Corratti, both of  Catskill.

Her maternal grandparents, Ernest and Emily Briggs of South Cairo, and her paternal grandparents Frank and Viola Corratti predeceased her.

The family would like to thank Dr. Duncan Savage of St. Peter's Cancer Care Center, his associates and his staff for their compassionate efforts in helping Lisa battle cancer during her long struggle.

Funeral services in Albany will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 30, at the Tebbutt Funeral Home, 633 Central Ave., Albany.

He was born in Richmond Hill on Sept. 23, 1938, son of the late Francis and Florence (Schell) Seidenspinner.

Mr. Seidenspinner was a self-employed handyman.  He enjoyed splitting wood and selling it.

Survivors include two sisters, Dolores Krauss of Hackettstown, N.J. and Ruth Hetzko of Oklawaha, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.

Interment will follow in the Potter Hollow Cemetery, Potter Hollow.

CATSKILL---Gordon Lavern Woodard, 69, of 153 Bethel Ridge Road, Catskill, died suddenly Friday morning, July 23, 2004 at home.

He was born June 12, 1935 in Granville, the son of the late Warren and Violet (King) Woodard.

Mr. Woodard served in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.  He was employed as a vocational instructor at Coxsackie Correctional Facility prior to his retirement in November 1998.

Survivors include four children, Bridgett Deyo of Catskill, Michael Woodard of Lynchburg, Va., Michelle Woodard of Granville, N.Y., and Lori Ann Bartram of Vermont; companion and long-time friend, Marion Wagoner of Catskill, and her children, Christopher Wagoner, Richard Wagoner, Vincent Boice, and James Rae; two brothers, Otis Woodard of West Pawlett, Vt. and Lynn Woodard of Concord, N.H.; four sisters, Madeline Hildenbrand of Catskill, Joan Mattison of Wells, Vt., Virginia Gould of Pawlett, Vt., and Gail Dayton of Briston, Conn.; nine grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mr. Woodard was predeceased by four brothers, Warren Woodard Jr., Donald Woodard, Roger Woodard, and Junior Raymond Woodard.

A graveside funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Town of Catskill Veterans Section.  The Rev. John J. Murphy, pastor of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church of Catskill will be officiating.

Memorial donations in Gordon's name may be made to the American Cancer Society.

COXSACKIE---Carol J. Cameron, 63, a lifelong resident of Coxsackie, died Friday, July 23, 2004 at the Community Hospice of Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Born Dec. 25, 1940 in Catskill, she was the daughter of Mildred Mead and the late Daniel Cameron.

Ms. Cameron was a clerk for 35 years in the New York State Department of Civil Service retiring in 1995.  She was a 1960 graduate of Coxsackie-Athens High Scool, a member of the United Methodist Church of Coxsackie and a member and chaplain of the Kaksakee Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her mother, Midred Cameron of Coxsackie; cousins; Judith Humphries, Keith Humphries both of Dunmallen, Fla., Patty Lederman of Schenectady, Virginia and Paul Moran of Scotia, Arlene Beck, Mary Friello both of Duanesburg and Kathy Richel.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Friday, 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 103 Mansion St., Coxsackie.  The Rev. Retta Lykens will officiate.

There will be no calling hours.

For those who desire, a memorial donation may be made in Ms. Cameron's name to the general fund of the United Methodist Church, 103 Mansion St., Coxsackie, NY 12051.

RHINEBECK---Vincent Vito Cassano, 95, of Ferncliff Drive, Rhinebeck, died Monday July 26, 2004 at Kingston Hospital.

Born April 3, 1909 in Harlem, New York City, he was the son of the late Paul and Rafaella (Franciosa) Cassano.

Mr. Cassano was a truck driver prior to his retirement.  He loved thoroughbred horse racing, especially the flat track.

Survivors include his wife, Rose (Swedits) Cassano of Rhinebeck; two daughters, Ella Cardino and Carol Pfautch and her husband Robert, both of Catskill; three grandchildren, Glenn Fava, Cynthia Dittmar, and Christopher Fava; three great-grandchildren, Jillian Dittmar, Aja Fava, and Cheryl Lynn Dittmar; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Fava; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Calling hours were Wednesday at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the funeral home.  The Rev. Richard Jacobs, Associate Pastor, St. Patrick's R.C. Church of Catskill officiated.

Entombment followed in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.

FREEHOLD--- John Smigel III, 58, of Freehold, died suddenly Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at his home.

Born in Catskill May 26, 1946, he was the son of the late John Smigel and Hennrietta (Sobering) Smigel.

Mr. Smigel spent most of his life working on the family farms.  For a time he had worked at Bud Kearney's Ford in Ravena in the Parts Department.  He then and still operated his Smigel Excavation Company and at the present time was employed with the New York State Department of Transportation in Cairo.

A big enthusiast of Indian motorcycles, his pride and joy was "Mother" a 1951 Indian Chief.  He was also an avid snowmobiler and racer.  He was one of the founding members and president of the Northern Star Riders Snowmobile Club and was very active in the Tri-Village Fire Co. and the Rensselaerville Rescue Squad.

Survivors include his wife and soul mate, Anne (Anabelle) Leber Smigel; several children and step-children, Beth Lounsbury (Jimmy) of Westerlo, Lynett Terrel (Keith) of Medusa, NY, Barbara Hewlett (Michael) of Massena, NY, Travis Smigel and fiance Sarah Davis of Medusa, NY, Stephen Hobart (Lorraine) of Menands, Matthew Hobart of Medusa, Jonathan Hobart of Freehold; five grandchildren, Victoria and James Lousbury, Megan and Amanda Terrell and Holden Hewlett; a sister, Henrietta Smigel; half-sister, Nancy Downey of New Port Richey, Fla., half-brother, W.R. (Doc) Tilford of Westford, NY; and several nieces, nephews and very dear friends who were a big part of his life.

LAKE PLACID---Violette Brandow Duncan Tiffany, 80, of Lake Placid, died July 28, 2004 at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid.

Born in Catskill Jan. 10, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Viola (Burns) Brandow of Leeds.

She lived in the Catskill and Claverack area until moving to Uihlein to be close to her daughter.

Survivors include her daughter, Diane Cardinale and her husband Joseph of Lake Placid; grandchildren, Joseph Cardinale Jr. and his wife Judene of Coxsackie, Jill Cardinale Segger and her husband Frank of Lake Placid, Dean Cardinale of Salt Lake City, UT, Dawn Cardinale of Lake Placid and Jason Cardinale and his wife Jane of Winchester, NH; five great-grandchildren, Morgan, Ethan and Reagan Cardinale of Coxsackie, Alexandra Grossman and Duncan Segger of Lake Placid; a sister, Irene Wirtanen of Minnesota; a brother Lyle Brandow of Catskill, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Dean W. Duncan and Alonzo Tiffany and two brothers, Edward and Maurice Brandow.

Calling hours will be Thursday July 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home Friday at 10 a.m. Rev. Mark Demers, Pastor of the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid, and sister Mary Denise of Uihlein Mercy Center will officiate.

Cremation will follow.  Burial  will be at the convenience of the family.

LEXINGTON---After a long courageous battle with heart disease, Carole Jean Truesdell of Lexington, born Aug. 1, 1946, went home to be with her Lord.

Carole was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was involved in many things in her community.  She was a member of the Mountaintop Little League, Cub Scouts, President of the W-A-J Alumni, Katterskill Post Card Club, member of the Eastern Star, and Junior Bowling Coach, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, member of the Ashland Rescue Squad, member of the Lexington Historical Society, and was active in the Democratic Party.  She was passionate about Genealogy of the Cross and Trusdell families.

She worked at the WAJ School, Christmans  Windham House, Greene County Public Health, Greene County Social Services, retiring as a Registered Nurse after 22 years of service.

She will always be remembered for her giving spirit.

She is survived by her mother Violet Cross and the late Bruce Cross of Lexington, her husband Jay W. Truesdell of Lexington; son, Jay Truesdell and his wife Becky Truesdell of Ashland, son, Gene Truesdell of Lexington and daughter Judy Nicola of Cohoes.  Her cherished grandchildren Jeremiah Curry and wife Liz Curry and Sarah Yuhasz and Bill both of Mechanicville and great-grand-daughter's Kailyn and Amber Curry.

Sister of Thomas and Robert Cross.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Windham.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 31, at 11 a.m. at the Jewett Presbyterian Church, Jewett, with the service conducted by Rev. Dianna Smith and Rev. Todd Luce officiating.

CATSKILL---Ruth Anne Pastor, 93, died Friday night July 23, 2004.

Ms. Pastor was a resident of the Pavilion in Catskill and previously lived at Bethany Village in Coxsackie, and also in Bells Pond.

Ms. Pastor was born in New York City and lived there many years before becoming employed at IBM and moving to upstate New York.

She survived many hardships including the Great Depression, but remained independent and spirited.

Ms. Pastor retired at age 65 from IBM in 1976, and continued to work and volunteer well into her mid-80's.

She was an active member of the Church of The Holy Cross in West Taghhkanic as well as many other social groups and clubs.  She will be remembered for her energy and positive disposition.

Her daughter, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren and one sister survive.

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004 at the Church of The Holy Cross, Route 82, West Taghhkanic.

CATSKILL---William Edwin Dunn, 71, of Catskill, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 28, 2004.

Mr. Dunn was born in Port Jervis, N.Y., on March 6, 1933 to the late E. Charles and Ruth Riffenburgh Dunn.

He was a kiln operator at the Blue Circle Cement Co. in Ravena for many years until his retirement.

He was avid sports fan and a doting grandfather.

Survivors include two daughters:  Mrs. Robert (Sherry) Herschel and Mrs. Hank (Holly) Romak, both of Catskill; three grandchildren:  Melissa Nunez, Cody Romak, and Tyler Herschel, all of Catskill; great-grandson, Robert Aiden Bentley of Catskill; five sisters:  Rhoda Dolacky of Climax, Nancy Karnes, Joan Accardo, Ruth Conklin, and Delores Gilmore; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dunn was predeceased by his former wife, Deanna Hardwick Dunn on July 4, 2002 and two brothers:  Donald Dunn and Charles "Sonny" Dunn.

Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

A prayer service will be held in the Remembrance Chapel of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. 

Private cremation will be conducted at the Albany Rural Crematorium on Monday.

CATSKILL---James J. Giordiano, 86, of 3154 Old Kings Road, Catskill, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

He was born Feb. 21, 1918 in Cementon, the son of the late Dominick and Grace Zachadee.

Mr. Giordiano served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II.

He was a long-time member of the Catskill Elks Lodge 1341, and he loved traveling, boating and horse racing.

Mr. Giordiano is survived by a son, James D. Giordiano of Catskill three sisters, Grace Tobiassen of Saugerties, Rose Sapunarich of Catskill, Virginia Konopka, two granddaughters, Joanna M. Plant of Catskill and Michelle Helmis of Andros, Greece and three great-grandchildren, Michael Helmis, John Helmis and Kristy Helmis, all of Andros, Greece; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

Mr. Giordiano was predeceased by his wife, Mrs. Stella (Wyszomirski) Giordiano; and five siblings, Fred Gordiano, Salvatore Gordiano, Frank Gordiano, Mildred DelNigro, and Anna Ferguson.

Private cremation was performed at Park View Cemetery in Catskill.

Graveside memorial service at St. Patrick's Cemetery,  Catskill will be at the convenience of the family.

CAIRO---Donald Clyde Orr, 68, of Meadow Lane, Cairo died suddenly Thursday, July 29, 2004 at home.

Born  April 4, 1936 in Elmira, New York, he was the son of the late Clyde and Bertha (Doty) Orr.

Donald was a graduate of Southside High School in Elmira.  He later attended SUNY Oswego.  He was a journeyman printer for Commercial Press and later became a vocational instructor at Coxsackie Correctional Facility for 17 years prior to his retirement in 1976.

Mr. Orr was Cairo Town Justice for 25 years.  He later formed the Greene County Department of Social Service Fraud Unit.   He was a member of the New York State Magistrates Association and the Cairo Republican Club.  He enjoyed landscape painting and playing Golden Oldies on his organ.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Rita (Martino) Orr of Cairo; two sons, Timothy M. Orr and his wife Cindy of Baldwin, Wisconsin and Steven D. Orr and his wife Maureen of Boston, Massachusetts; a daughter, Cynthia Orr of Hudson, North Carolina; three sisters, Wanda and her husband Don Wolcott of Florida, Betty and her husband Raymond Pease of Horseheads, New York and Dolores and her husband Richard Yorke of Elmira; two grandchildren, Benjamin and Daniel Orr of Baldwin, Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home,  234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill on Sunday, Aug. 1 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Private cremation will be performed at Park View Cemetery in Schenectady.

CATSKILL---Eugene F. Wallace, 67, of Catskill passed away on July 28, 2004 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Born in Ireland on Sept. 3, 1936, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (McNulty) Wallace.

He had retired from the New York City Transit Authority and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in East Durham.  Eugene was especially fond of his companions, "Twiggy"  the cat and  "Little One" the dog.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia (McFadden) Wallace; two daughters, Mary and Susan Wallace, both of Hannacroix; and his siblings Jack, Charles, Daniel James, Hugh, Patrick, Joseph and Kevin Wallace and Phyllis Gallagher, Cathleen Gatward and Bridgett McGinity.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Aug. 2 at 11 a.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville.  As to his wishes, cremation was at the Albany Rural Cemetery.
