Deschamps, 86, of Feddes Mobile Home Park, Leeds, died suddenly Monday, Jan. 31,
2005, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born June 15, 1918 in Brooklyn, she was the
daughter of the late Gasparo and Ginanna (Cangelosi) Eterno.
Mrs. Deschamps was a proofreader for
Stanley Impressions in Manhattan prior to her retirement. She has been a Leeds
area resident since 1980. She was a
communicant at St. Patrick's R.C. Church in Catskill.
Survivors include her husband, Frank
Deschamps of Leeds; a son, Allen Deschamps of Leeds; a brother, James Eterno of
Leeds; a sister, Rose Marchosota of Long Island; two grandchildren, Steven
Deschamps of Catskill and Tara Deschamps of Brooklyn; and many cousins, nieces
and nephews.

HUNTER---Domenick
Kucich, 82, of Hunter, died unexpectedly Jan. 29, 2005 at Columbia Memorial
Hospital in Hudson with his family by his side.
He was born May 1, 1922 to Domenick and
Maria Muzic Kucic in Italy.
Mr. Kucich was the owner of the former
Domenick’s Restaurant in Tannersville.
He was an avid gardener.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine of
Hunter, a daughter, Joyce M. Kucich of Lima, N.Y.; a sister, Lina Muzic of
Delray Beach, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Kucich was predeceased by his son
Lawrence J. Kucich.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
p.m. today at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, 7742 Main St., Hunter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church
in Haines Falls. Officiating will be the Rev. Anthony Motta.
Spring Interment will be in St. Francis
deSales Cemetery in Elka Park.

Bowles, 65, of Ufferts Road, Catskill, formerly of Round Top, died Jan. 31, 2005
at Community Hospice at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
He was born in Banner Elk, N.C., June 26,
1939, and was the son of the late Frank and Jessie (Neely) Bowles.
Mr. Bowles had been an area resident for
five years. Prior to his retirement he was a truck driver and was employed by
the Great Coastal Trucking of Norfolk, Va.
He served his country in the U.S. Air Force
from March 1957 to July 1958.
Survivors include his wife Joyce A. (Sharrow)
Bowles of Catskill, a son, Kerry Bowles of Orlando, Fla.; two stepsons, John
O’Rourke of Catskill and Robert O’Rourke of New Jersey; a daughter, Jennifer
Axsom of Tampa, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Kathleen O’Rourke of New Jersey,
Jessica O’Rourke of Oklahoma; two brothers, Charles Sandifer of South Carolina
and George Sandifer of North Carolina. Also surviving is a granddaughter, Mary
Megan Axsom of Tampa, Fla.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday
at the Richards Funeral Home, Bross Street, Cairo.
Funeral services will take place 8:30 p.m.
Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Fr. J. Nunan, pastor of the Sacred
Heart Church of Cairo officiating.
Interment will follow Friday in the
Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

77, of 100 Meadow Lane, Cairo, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005 at Columbia Memorial
Hospital, Hudson, where she had been a patient since Jan. 8, 2005.
Born in Brooklyn Nov. 4, 1927, she was the
daughter of the late Leon and Elsbeth (Reinhardt) Novick.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed
at the American Thermostat of South Cairo.
Survivors include her son, Dennis C. Ross
of Saugerties; a daughter, Denise M. Denges of Cairo; five grandchildren,
Jessica and Angeline Ross, Lisa DeLosa, Bethany and Joanne Kubernach; and three
great grandchildren, Darren, Tyler and Ross Fredenburgh.
Besides her parents and her husband, she
was predeceased by a grandson, David Ross.
Calling hours are Thursday, 7 to 9 p.m., at
the Richards Funeral Home, Bross St., Cairo.
Funeral services will take place Friday, 1
p.m., at the funeral home with Rev. Harrison Putnam, Pastor, of the Zion
Lutheran Church of Athens officiating.
Interment will follow next to her late
husband, Andrew Ross, who predeceased her on Feb. 21, 2000, in the family plot
in the Catskill Rural Cemetery.

FRED J. MACK
Former Town of Durham supervisor and postmaster
EAST DURHAM---Fred J.
Mack, 78, of East Durham died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at his home after a short
illness.
Born in East Durham May 11, 1926, he was
the son of the late Daniel and Marie (Renner) Mack.
Mr. Mack dedicated his entire adult life to
serving his country and his community. He served in the U.S. Army during World
War II and spent several years at the Army Depot in Voorheesville, N.Y. In 1958
he became the postmaster in East Durham and retired in 1986. Following his
retirement he served the Town of Durham as town supervisor for five terms. He
was a life member of the East Durham Volunteer Fire Company with more than 50
years of active service. He was a 50-year member and Past Master of Cascade
Lodge No. 427 F&AM and became a member of Kedemah Lodge No. 693 F&AM in
Cairo. He was also a founding member of the Durham Rescue Squad and a member of
the Oak Hill-Durham United Methodist Church and the Durham Valley American
Legion Post No. 1416.
Survivors include two sons, Alan L. Mack
and his wife Linda of East Durham, and Jeffrey L. Mack and his wife Cindy of
Clifton Park; a daughter, Kristine Mirocco and her husband, Frank of Athens; two
grandchildren, Kimberly Jackson and her husband Shawn of Kingston, Adam A. Mack
of East Durham; great-grandson, Tyler Frederick Jackson of Kingston; two
brothers, George Mack and his wife Thelma of Kingston, and Philip Mack and his
wife Eva of Greenville; two sisters, Catherine (Marie) Michaelsen and her
husband Fritz of East Durham, and Caroline Rusack and her husband John of
Catskill; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Helen
(Lawyer) Mack and a granddaughter Becky Mack.
Calling hours are Saturday, 4 to 8 p.m. at
the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.
Funeral services will be Sunday 2 p.m. at
the funeral home.
Spring interment will be in the Winston
Cemetery.

VERO BEACH, FLA.---Ernest
P. Onderdonk, 84, formerly of South Cairo, died Jan. 30, 2005 at Indian River
Memorial Hospital, Vero Beach.
Born in Coxsackie, Mr. Onderdonk lived most
of his life in Sandy Plains before moving to Vero Beach 20 years ago.
He worked for Marquette Cement for 38
years. He was also a World War II veteran serving in Hawaii and Washington, D.C.
He belonged to the Dutch Reformed Church of Leeds and was a member of the
Cairo/Durham Elks and was a former Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years,
Lois (Heath) Onderdonk; five daughters, Audrey and husband Curt Halsted of
Sebastian, Fla., Janice and husband Donald Jones of Geneseo, N.Y., Sharon and
husband Douglas Dittmar of Wickliffe, Ohio, Bonnie Gray of Farmington, N.Y. and
Darlene and husband, August Freemann of Cairo; grandchildren, Susan, Robin,
Curt, Jennifer, Michael, Tammy, Dawn, Brenda, Leanne, and August; great
grandchildren, Andrew, Elizabeth, Joshua. Jeramie, Casey, Ben, Dougie, and
Amber.
He was cremated at Indian River Cremation,
Vero Beach, Fla.
Services will be scheduled at a later date
in New York.

HUDSON---Arthur W. Murphy,
Ph.D., 73, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005 at Community Hospice of Columbia Memorial
Hospital in Hudson.
He was born in New York City on July 21,
1931.
He was a clinical psychologist for the NYS
Division for Youth in Albany until his retirement. Previously he was affiliated
with the Einstein College and Lincoln Mental Health in Bronx.
He was a volunteer at Green Manor Nursing
Home in Ghent, a member of the First Baptist Church in Catskill, and a member of
the Hudson Area Library Board of Directors.
His many dear friends will remember him as
a warm and generous person.
He was predeceased by his wife, Sue Murphy.
Visiting hours will be Sunday, Feb. 6.,
from 2 to 5 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home, Inc., 886 Columbia St., Hudson.
Services will follow at 5 p.m. with Pastor Rick Snowden of the First Baptist
Church of Catskill officiating.
Cremation will follow at Albany Rural
Cemetery and Crematory in Menands.

Jestand, 72, of Saugerties died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005 at her residence after a
brief illness.
Born Sept. 15, 1932 in Catskill, she was
the daughter of Theresa Reich Fischer of Santa Rosa, California and the late
Charles Fischer.
A graduate of the State University of New
York at Plattsburgh, she was employed as an elementary teacher for the
Saugerties Central School Consolidated at the Cahill Elementary School on
Washington Avenue for 31 years. During that time, she taught kindergarten, third
and fourth grade, retiring in 1987. She began her career teaching in the
one-room schoolhouse in Katbaan.
She was a member of the Saugerties Teachers
Association and the Saugerties United Methodist Church where she served on the
Pastor-Parish Committee.
Besides her mother, survivors include her
husband, Robert H. Jestand of Saugerties; a son, Robert C. Jestand of
Saugerties; a sister, Barbara Ressue of Santa Rosa, California; a granddaughter
and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on
Tuesday, Feb. 8 at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. in Saugerties with the
Rev. Dr. Duane Buddle, Pastor of the Saugerties United Methodist Church,
officiating. Interment will follow in the Blue Mountain Cemetery.

72, of Claverack died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at Community Hospice in Columbia
Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born March 21, 1932 in Watervliet she was
the daughter of the late Frederic and Rose Bulrus Waters.
Mrs. Curley was employed as an inspector
for the Hudson Knitting Mills.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas H.
Curley of Claverack; and a sister, Rose Waters of Troy.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Curley was
predeceased by two brothers, Fredric and Clarence Waters; and six sisters,
Marion Waters, Catherine McCauliff, Bernice Waters, Pauline Bender, Barbara
Smith and Theresa Shultz.
Calling hours will be noon to 2 p.m.

She had been a bookkeeper for Health Care
Associates of New York State in Albany.
Survivors include a brother, Robert J.
Lynch and two nephews, Christopher and Ryan Lynch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m.
Monday, Feb. 14 at Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham.
As to her wishes, cremation was at the
Albany Rural Cemetery.

of 237 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, died Monday Feb. 7, 2005 at Columbia
Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
She was born Sept. 4, 1942 in Amenia, N.Y.
Mrs. Myers was a long time employee at the
Greene County Community Action Agency. She was also an employee at Graphic Arts
in Athens prior to her retirement.
She was a communicant at St. Patrick’s
Church in Catskill.
Survivors include a son, Jason Myers and
wife Tara of Worcester, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Christine Kellogg of Catskill; a
niece, Tracie Kellogg; and a nephew, Thomas Kellogg.
Mrs. Myers was predeceased by her husband,
Charles Myers, Sr., and a son, Charles Myers, Jr.
There are no calling hours.
A memorial service is planned for a later
date at the convenience of the family.

79, of Greene St., Catskill, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005 at Columbia Memorial
Hospital, Hudson.
Born July 7, 1925, in Athens, he was the
son of the late Alwyn and Forella (Kisselburg) Poole.
Mr. Poole worked as a TV/electronics
serviceman at the Ideal Store in Catskill for 36 years and at Bundy TV, also in
Catskill, for 10 years. He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church,
Catskill.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years,
Nancy (Thorne) Poole; one daughter, Denise Katherine Jangrow of Catskill; three
sons, Daniel Charles Poole of Fla., David Irving Poole of Catskill, and Darryl
Henry Poole of Oklahoma; two sisters, Barbara VanZetten of Voorheesville, NY,
and Elaine Sanson of South Carolina; one brother, Alton Poole of Athens; 14
grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, James
and Lauren Poole.
A memorial service will be held at St.
Luke’s Episcopal Church at a later date.

Jaeger and son-in-law Virgil Curtis,

and son-in-law Donald Andrews; grandchildren, Alaina Poehmel, Kaitlin Jaeger,

CATSKILL---Anthony C. Pereira, 89, died Feb. 6, 2005 after a
short illness.
He was born in
1916 in Fall River, Mass.
In 1959, he and
his family made their home in Catskill. He was a master boat carpenter and was
the owner/operator of Tony Boat Yard, which is now Riverview Marina.
He retired in
Spring Hill, Fla., with his wife, Olga, in 1978. They later moved to Pensacola
in 2000 to be closer to their son and daughter-in-law.
Survivors include
his wife, Olga Champagne Pereira; his son, Courtney Pereira; his three
daughters, Inanna Linda Champagne, Vala Welch, and Wendylee Pereira. He is also
survived by his seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Pereira was
predeceased by two grandsons, Courtney and Gary Pereira.

GREENVILLE---Mary Jane “Jane” Byrnes, 82, of Greenville, died
Feb. 9, 2005 at her home.
She was born May
8, 1922 in Albany, daughter of the late George and Jennifer (Ray) McAllister.
Mrs. Byrnes
graduated from Albany Business College where she played basketball and set
scoring records.
She was a
self-employed accountant and income tax preparer, preparing over 300 tax
accounts annually, until her retirement in 1981.
She was an
instructor for the Red Cross Swim Program in Greenville.
She played
softball and was an avid golfer, winning many Senior’s Tournaments in
Ogdensburg, N.Y., where she and her family spent their summers.
Mrs. Byrnes was a
communicant of St. John the Baptist Church where she and her husband devoted
much time and talent.
She was a former
Rosary Alter Society member.
She was a devoted
wife and mother.
Survivors include
her beloved son, James T. “Terry” Byrnes and his fiancée’ Diane Burke of
Greenville, several nieces and nephews and friends.
Mrs. Byrnes was
predeceased by her husband of 53 years, James E. “Jimmy” Byrnes in 2000 and
her two brothers and three sisters and many of her dear friends.

Born in Broome
Center on May 15, 1929, she was the daughter of Harry and Ernestine Foland.
Marge was a
lifelong homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Survivors include
her husband, Robert (Murphy) Vaughn; two daughters, Norma Marsilio and her
husband Michael of West Coxsackie and Marsha Cance and her husband Alessandro of
Medusa; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was
predeceased by her sister, Esther Zach and brother, Gerald Foland.

GREENVILLE---Richard “Ed”
Venable, 92, of Greenville died suddenly at his home on Feb. 11, 2005.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky on May 27,
1912, he was the son of the late Edward and Bertha (Weobker) Venable.
He was a former salesman for Drakes Bakers
in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Ed was devoted to the Boy Scouts of
America, starting out as a boy scout himself and then eventually becoming a
troop leader in Brooklyn where he initiated sponsorship of scouting by the local
Catholic parish. In 1952, he founded Troop 332 at St. Raymond’s Church in East
Rockaway, L.I.
In 1974, Ed was named “Man of the Year”
for developing Catholic ideals in the young men of St. Raymond’s parish. In
1983, he was president of the Holy Name Society at St. Raymond’s.
He and his wife, Peggy, retired 20 years
ago to their beloved mountains in Greenville. In 1992, Ed received a
“Certificate of Merit” for his outstanding volunteer contributions to the
people of Greene County. He and Peg were active in every aspect of service at
St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville. Ed was also a member of the Knights
of Columbus, Our Lady of Knock Council in East Durham.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathleen
Venable of Center Moriches, L.I.; three sons, Richard Venable and his wife Judy
of Windsor, CT, Gerard Venable and his
wife Mary Ellen of Portsmouth, RI and Thomas Venable and his wife Margaret of
Waldon, NY; seven granddaughters and two great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister Olga Smith.

Cunningham Funeral Home at 4898 Route 81 in Greenville on Monday, Feb. 14 from 4
to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 15 from the funeral

Wodzenski, 81, of Saugerties died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005 at the Benedictine
Hospital in Kingston after a short illness.
Born Sept. 29, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York,
she was the daughter of the late Vito and Ciovanna Galfano Vascellaro.
An area resident for many years, she was
employed as a dental assistant and a home health companion. She was a former
member of the Saxton Fire Company Ladies Auxillary.
Survivors include her husband, Vincent
“Vinny” Wodzenski with whom she recently celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary; a daughter, Katherine F. Steere of Catskill; a son, Dr.
Steve Wodzenski of Douglasville, Georgia; two brothers, Anthony Vascellaro of
Glendale, California and George Vascellaro of Winter Haven, Florida; a sister,
Ann Bogert of Saugerties; five grandchildren, Andrew, Marina and Kristina
Wodzenski of Georgia and Ayla and Erin Steere of Catskill; three nieces, Peigi
Mulligan, Doreen O’Brien and Jenny Lang, all of Saugerties; and one nephew,
Stephen Lang of Saugerties.
She was predeceased by an identical twin
sister, Frances Cooper.
Her funeral procession will form at 8:45
a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home on the corner of John
and Lafayette Streets and proceed to Sacred Heart RC Church in Palenville where
a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by the Rev. Bonaventure
Bionda, OFM, Pastor.

GREENVILLE---Louis Mauriello,
70, of Old Plank Road, Greenville, died Feb. 13, 2005 at Columbia Memorial
Hospital, Hudson.
He was born Feb. 21, 1934 in New York City,
the son of the late Joseph and Delores (Sapponaro) Mauriello.
Mr. Mauriello has been a resident of Greene
County since 1976. While living in Greene County, he was very active in the
Durham Rescue Squad as a emergency medical technician. He was also active in the
Freehold Volunteer Fire Company.
During his years of employment he was a

Mr. Mauriello was a pitcher for the
Cleveland Indians. During his years of playing baseball, he had offers from the
Yankees and the Dodgers.
He loved woodworking, music, and collecting
antiques.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara
(Schmidt) Mauriello of Greenville; five children, Lori, Louis, Michael, Matthew
and Anne Marie; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Mauriello was predeceased by a son Marc
and grandson Louis.

Picardi, 64, of 4 Austin Acres, Catskill, died early Saturday morning, Feb. 12,
2005 at home after a long illness.
He was born March 27, 1940 in Catskill, the
son of the late Anthony and Margaret (Law) Picardi.
Mr. Picardi served in the U.S. Navy as a
SeaBee prior to his retirement. He was a member of Sullivan-Teator VFW Post 770
in Catskill.
Survivors include a son, Anthony Picardi
and fiancée Diana Low; four daughters, Janine Picardi of Coxsackie, Cheryl
Scarselli of Catskill, Cindy Scarselli of Hudson, Tammy Place of Catskill; a
brother, Dennis Picardi of Catskill; a sister, Bernice Yannone and husband
Joseph, both of Catskill; seven grandchildren, Jason Jaycox, Andrew Jaycox,
Nathaniel Picardi, Christopher Rowan, Justin Ferencz, Jacob Ferencz, Julius
Ferencz; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Picardi was predeceased by his wife,
Rose Picardi on Jan. 24, 2000; a sister, Lorraine Wagenbaugh; a daughter,
Michele Mignano; and a grandson, Damian Mignano.

Calcaterra, 59, of Route 23A, Palenville, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005 at Eden
Park Nursing Home, Catskill.
Born July 9, 1945 in the Bronx, she was the
daughter of Margaret (Kelly) O’Leary of Catskill and the late John O’Leary.
Formerly of the Bronx and Freeport, Long
Island, Ms. Calcaterra was a graduate of Freeport High School, Class of 1962.
She has been a Greene County resident since 1969. She was a past-secretary for
the Carpenters Union in Saugerties. She was employed as director of Social Work
for Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill for the past six years, and was also a
mediator for Common Ground in Catskill. She was a communicant at Sacred Heart
Church in Palenville.
In addition to her mother, Margaret
O’Leary, she is survived by three daughters, Monica Maez of Aurora, Colo.,
Irene Calcaterra of Denver, Colo., and Veronica Calcaterra of Palenville; two
sisters, Maureen Peplow and husband Roger, both of Palenville, and Rita
O’Leary of Kiskatom; a brother, Robert O’Leary and wife, Jaci, both of
Saugerties; a grandson, Isaac Maez of Aurora, Colo.; four nieces; one nephew;
and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Calling hours are Thursday, 7 to 9 p.m. at

93, died Feb. 5, 2005 at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill. She was a resident
of Oak Hill.
She was born Nov. 10, 1912 in Little Falls,
N.Y. , to the late John F. and Bertha (North) Kiley. She grew up in Schenectady
with her late brothers, Edward and Charles Kiley.
Mrs. Jones made her living in Cohoes as a
nurse and homemaker.
She was married to her late husband, Roland
Jones, for over 30 years.
In her later years, Ruth was better known
to most as “Aunt Ruth” and lived with her nephew Jack Kiley and his wife
Velma. She shared her life with her great-nieces and nephews and their children.
Her hobbies included reading, bible study,
crocheting, and playing card games, such as Old Maid with her great-great nieces
and nephews.
Survivors include nephews Jack E. Kiley of
Oak Hill, James P. Kiley of Conn., and William H. Kiley of Mass. She is also
survived by several generations of great-nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and immediate family,
she was predeceased by two nephews Charles W. and Michael J. Kiley.
Private cremation took place at the Albany
Rural Crematorium in Menands.
Interment will take place in the springtime
in Waterford, N.Y.

NEW CASTLE, N.H.---Edward
J. Mallon, 95, died peacefully at home in New Castle, N.H. on Sunday, Feb. 13,
2005.
He was born in New York City and was the
son of Mary (Rafferty) and James Mallon and the husband of Helen Mallon, his
wife of 69 years, who predeceased him in December of 2004.
He was a graduate of Regis High School,
Fordham University, Graduate School of City College and he was a CPA.
While Senior Vice President and Comptroller
at the Guardian Life Insurance Company in New York City, he was an adjunct
professor at Pace College and the Graduate School of City College.
After his retirement from Guardian, he was
a professor in the department of Business and Law at Schenectady County
Community College for 10 years. Until his death, he was Vice President and
Treasurer of Secure Planning, Inc. of Portsmouth, N.H.
He served in the Army during World War II
and was discharged as a First Lieutenant.
He was a member of the American Institute
of CPA’s and the New York Society of CPA’s.
Although for many years a staunch New York
Yankees fan, he converted to the Boston Red Sox when he moved to New Hampshire.
He was overjoyed with the Red Sox winning the World Series this past year. He
had seen Babe Ruth play and well remembered the last time the Red Sox won the
World Series.
He attended the St. Theresa’s Church in
Windham. He served as Vice President of the Golden Ages and assisted at Meals on
Wheels luncheons in Hensonville.
Survivors include his son, Edward J.
Mallon, Jr. and his wife Fran of New Castle, N.H., his grandchildren, Edward J.
Mallon, III and his wife Kelly of New York City, Kathryn M. Taylor and her
husband, Ken Taylor of Portsmouth, N.H. and Melinda Mallon of Somersworth, N.H.
His five great-grandchildren, Allison, Kathleen, William, Alexander, and Madison
also survive.

Mrs. Hill loved reading, taking walks,
puzzles and NASCAR. She was a fan of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. She also loved her
family and enjoyed playing with her nieces and nephews.

She also enjoyed bowling at Ravena Lanes. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran
Church in Athens and she made friends easily, and was a good friend to many.
Survivors include
her husband of 52 years, Harold “Lindy” Van Wormer; a sister, Nellie Carney
of Athens; two nieces; two nephews; and three cousins.
She was
predeceased by her parents, Clayton and Nellie Kellner Hulbert; one brother,
Clayton Hulbert; and one sister, Theretta Jolly.

MONTGOMERY---Charles J. Bolton, 75, of Montgomery, a resident
since 1972, died Feb. 13, 2005 at St. Lukes’ Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh.
Born July 13,
1929 in Ballston Spa and raised in Saratoga Springs, he was born the second son
and third child of William Bolton and Myrtle Crandall.
Mr. Bolton was a
member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Walden, American Legion Post 0521
in Montgomery and the VFW.
He retired in
1987 after 14 years from the Federal Aviation Administration. He was also
retired from the Army in 1969 as a Korean and Vietnam Disabled American veteran
after 20 years of active duty service.
He
proved to us,
friends and others, just how strong, disciplined and independent he was after
having a double kidney transplant two years ago at the age of 73.
Survivors include
two sons, Charles, Jr. and his wife, Janet of Milford, Pa., Clark and his wife
Sylvia of Shelton, Conn.; a daughter, Christine and her fiancé Mark Sinn of
Montgomery; grandchildren, Shannon Cobb, Sean Bolton, Alicia Maria Bolton and
step-grandchildren, Michael Diblasi and step-greatgrandchild, Alyssa Diblasi.

She immigrated to America in 1925 moving to
Brooklyn where she lived until moving to Catskill in 1998.
She was married July 22, 1973 to Howard
Miller who died March 11, 1985.
Mrs. Miller was a secretary for Chase
Manhattan Bank in New York City until her retirement. She was a member of the
Bethlehem Reformed Church of Brooklyn and the Eastern Star.
Survivors include a niece, Marion Winter of
Selkirk, and a great-nephew, Travis Winter.
Mrs. Miller was predeceased by her nephew,
Robert E. Miller.

Survivors include her husband of 33 years,

GREENVILLE---Harold L. Williams, 94, of Greenville, died Feb. 15,
2005 at the Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill.
He was born Feb.
3, 1911 in the upstate town of Hinckley, N.Y., son of the late Marvin and Addie
(Winans) Williams.
Harold’s father
was principal of two schools in Hartsdale, Westchester County, and his mother
was one of the first female graduates of Syracuse University in 1905.
He grew up in
Hartsdale, graduated from Pratt University in New York City with degrees in
mechanical and electrical engineering.
He acquired the
nickname “Beep”, having hand built his first car at age 21.
Mr. Williams
traveled the world extensively as a trouble shooter for Merrick Scale Co. and
retired at the age of 67. He married Virginia Dickerson of Yonkers and raised
four children in Pearl River, Rockland County.
Mr. Williams was
predeceased by his first wife, Virginia (Dickerson) Williams. He later married
Tillie Keegan of Pearl River and spent 30 blissful and fun-filled years with her
living in upstate New York in Greenville.
They traveled
from Alaska to Maine to Florida. At age 80, Harold broke a rib sleigh riding and
at the age of 90 was the oldest person to ride the Cyclone roller coaster at one
of Florida’s theme parks. He was active throughout his life and thoroughly
enjoyed every minute.
Survivors include
his wife, Tillie (Keegan) Williams of Greenville; two sons, Scott Williams and
his wife Shirley of Cashiers, N.C., and Keith Williams and his wife Becky of
Cape Coral, Fla., six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

RAVENA---Ruth Bleezarde Babcock, 86, died Wednesday, Feb. 16,
2005 at her residence with her family by her side.
She was born on
March 17, 1918 in Ravena where she lived her whole life and was actively
involved in the community.
Mrs. Babcock
graduated from Ravena High School where she was known for her basketball skill,
in 1936 received her degree in Child Development from Cobbleskill College and
continued on at Simmons School of Embalming, attaining her New York State
Funeral Directors License in 1941, becoming one of the few women to hold that
position.
She and her late
husband owned and operated the Babcock Funeral Home that continues on today,
encompassing four generations.
Mrs. Babcock was
a lifetime member of the Congregational Christian Church in Ravena where she
served over the years in the choir, Sunday School and many additional activities
of the church.
Her membership
also included the Senior Projects of Ravena, Awenke Yacht Club, Mohawk-Hudson
Power Squadron, Eastern Star, Ladies Auxiliary of the Ravena Hose Co.,
Albany-Rensselaer Funeral Directors Association and the New York State Funeral
Directors Association.
She had been an
Avon representative for over 40 years without interruption and was a pioneer of
the Stars Program, serving the first graders at P.B. Coeymans School.
Survivors include
her six children, Dennis G. (Diane) Babcock of Enfield, Conn., Janice Ruth
(Eugene) Winters of Cranberry Township, Pa., Sharon B. D’Ambrosio, Gail B.
(Peter) Bullock, Marcia Jean (Rudy) Blakesley and George W. (Carol) Babcock all
of Ravena; her sister, Marion Roberts of Ravena; 14 grandchildren; 14
great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her
husband, George, Mrs. Babcock was predeceased by five brothers, Warren, Elmer,
George, William and Robert Bleezarde and two sisters, Mildred and Emma Bleezarde.
Mrs. Babcock
touched many lives in the community over the years through her natural ability
to reach out to people in need and as a result enriched the lives of many too
numer0us to count.

CAIRO---Duane S. Ransom, 62, of Cairo, died Wednesday, Feb.
16, 2005, at the Community Hospice Division of Columbia Memorial Hospital from
his exposure to asbestos which caused an irreversible disease.
Born June 9, 1942
in Kingsville, N.Y., he was the son of the late Tomas and Rita (Ferris) Ransom.
Mr. Ransom was
raised in the Adirondack Mountains and helped to support his immediate family.
He went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1970, received an Honorable
Discharge and worked as a maintenance superintendant at Dutchess County BOCES
until illness forced his retirement. He was a loving husband, father and brother
who enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and hard work.
Survivors include
his wife of 34 years, Francine (West) Ransom; a son, Duane; a daughter, Melissa;
one brother, Thomas Ransom, Jr., of Averill Park; three sisters, Ann Bard of
Tivoli, Donna Bard of West Hurley, and Deborah Staats of Clermont; his
mother-in-law, Pearline Welch; two sister-in-laws, Phyllis West and Pearline
Wisowaty; two uncles, and two aunts, nephews and cousins.

Joseph B. Jones, 68, of Elka Park, died February 16, 2005, at the DVA Medical Center in Albany.
He was born Jan.
2, 1937 to the late Bernard “Casey” and Mildred Haines Jones in Haines
Falls.
He was a
construction foreman for many years and a member of Laborers Union #190.
Joseph was a
veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the V.F.W. He served as a
volunteer fireman for the Haines Falls Fire Company for many years.
He is survived by
his wife, Jeanette Jones of Tampa, Fla.; two sons, James Jones of Elka Park, and
Sean Jones of Wilmington, Del.; two daughters, Shannon Mulroy of West Islip,
Long Island, and Bridget Clifford of Fla.; his brother, John Jones of Belrose
Terrace, L.I.; four sister, Mary Coird of Dunedin, Fla., Nora Bishop of
Bowdoinham, Me., Anne Siakowski of East Jewett, and Milly Brown of Saugerties.
He was the proud
grandfather of nine grandchildren, and he had 14 nieces and nephews and 19
grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Frank
and his son, Russell.
A Mass of
Christian Burial is to be held Monday morning, Feb. 21, at the Immaculate
Conception Church in Haines Falls. Officiating will be the Rev. Anthony Motta.
Spring interment will be in the Haines Falls Cemetery.

He was born in
Catskill, NY on June 12, 1953, son of E. Virgil Clow and the late Mildred

Everett was the
owner of Tip-Top Floor Covering, in Freehold.
An avid lover of
the outdoors and the water, he enjoyed boating with his family and friends. He
was also an active member of the Greenville-Norton Hill Wildlife Club.
Everett chose to
be a Gift of Sight Donor and his selfless act will benefit another life. He will
be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, nephew and
friend to all who knew him.
He was
predeceased by a grandson, Daniel Mistler.
Surviving are his
beloved wife, Jane (Helligrass) Clow; his loving children, Tracy Mistler and her

He was born in
Catskill, Jan. 27, 1955, the beloved son of Charles L. and Virginia (Newcomb)
Groff of Elka Park.
He graduated from
Hunter-Tannersville School in 1973 and served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by
his estranged wife, Elizabeth; daughters, Tara Lee, Taylor, Tawny, Elizabeth and
Victoria; two grandsons, Dylan and Logan, and one granddaughter, Shannon; also,
two brothers, Frank and David; sisters, Marvina Parrotte, Tammy Vanucchi and
Chandi, many nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
Funeral
arrangements were under the direction of Jay Poster, the Palms Mortuary in Las
Vegas.
A memorial

Hospice in Hudson.
He was born to
the late Joseph Andrew and Margaret Boston Kark in Shadyside, Ohio.
He was the
manager of the Canfield Machine and Tool in Kingston for over 37 years.
He served in the
U.S. Air Force from 1949 through 1952. He was known for his fine woodworking and
designed and created many different pieces of furniture.
Survivors include
his wife, Nancy McDivitt Kark, who he married June 23, 1955 in Poughkeepsie,
also his two daughters, Vicky Kark of Rhinebeck, and Jeanne Garde and her
husband Steven of Pelvqerville, Texas; a brother, Fred Kark of Columbus, Ohio;
and one grandson, Alex Garde.
He was also
predeceased by a sister, Nancy Kark Neudardt.
Graveside
services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the Tannersville
Evergreen Cemetery on Bloomer Road and County Route 16. Officiating will be the
Rev. John Miller.

World War II veteran
CATSKILL---Louis P. Jaronsik, 88, of Catskill died Monday, Feb.
21, 2005 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
A loving son and
brother, he was born in Catskill on March 16, 1916 to the late John and Anna
Jaronsik.
Mr. Jaronsik
attended St. Patrick’s Academy and High School. He served in the U.S. Army
from 1942 through 1945 where he fought for his country in the Asiatic-Pacific
Theatre of Operations. As a result
of his service, he received the World War II Victory Medal, the American Service
Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon.
He was employed
with the Lehigh Portland Cement Co. for 36 years. He was a member of the
following organizations: a life member of A.M. Osborn Hose Co. No.2; the Knights
of Columbus, the Rip Van Winkle Seniors, the Senior Bowling League, and Order of
the Redmen Organization for many years. He was a faithful communicant of St.
Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church.
Mr. Jaronsik was
an avid bowler, camper, gardener and skilled woodworker who spent many hours in
his basement workshop creating gifts for his children and grandchildren. A
devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, his passion was his family.
He and his family spent many happy
summers boating and camping in the Adirondacks.
He will be fondly
remembered and deeply missed by Dorothy, his best friend, wife and life
companion of 53 years; son, Paul Jaronsik and daughter-in-law Valli of Catskill;
daughter Dorothy Kelly of Hurley; daughter, Janice Rinaldi and son-in-law Bill
Rinaldi of Catskill; daughter Joyce Dev and son-in-law Chekitan Dev of Ithaca;
grandchildren, Brian Rinaldi, Sean Kelly, Eric Jaronsik, Megan Rinaldi, Caitlin
Kelly, Andrew and Christopher Dev.
He was
predeceased by son-in-law Truscott Michael Kelly, and daughter-in-law, Darlene
Jaronsik, and brothers, John and Joseph.

HANNACROIX---Alfred W. Ollmetzer, 85, of Hannacroix, died Sunday
evening, Feb. 20, 2005 at the Albany Medical Center.
Mr. Ollmetzer was
born Jan. 19, 1920 in Brooklyn, the son of the late Alfred and Rose (Zotter)
Ollmetzer.
He was married on
Aug. 24, 1946 in Coxsackie to Theresa Van Cott, who survives at home.
During World War
II, Mr. Ollmetzer was a member of the 175 The Signal Repair Company, U.S. Army.
He participated in Normandy, Central Europe, The Rhineland and Ardennes-Northern
France campaigns. He was awarded five Bronze Stars, the Croix de Guerre and
campaign and victory ribbons.
He was a
stationary engineer at the Coxsackie Correctional Facility for many years. Mr.
Ollmetzer was a 54 year member of the American Legion Post 166 in Coxsackie. He
enjoyed woodworking, reading, and assisting the Boy Scout Troop.
In addition to
his wife, he is survived by one son, Alan and his wife Melissa Ollmetzer of
Hannacroix; three grandchildren; David and his wife Melissa Ollmetzer of Ravena,
Ann and her husband Paul Eddy of Berne, David Bellefeuille of Schuylerville;
four great-grandchildren, Lee Goergen, Michael and Paul Eddy, Joseph “J.J.”
Ruchel. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Alford was the secretary of St.
Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Delmar for 35 years and has resided in Delmar
since 1945. She was a member of the Bethlehem Senior Citizens, the Eastern Star,
the Delmar Progress Club, the Sunshine Seniors and St. Stephen’s Women’s
Group. She loved family parties and enjoyed playing bridge and bingo. She was
also an avid Yankee fan. She was the wife of the late Charles E. Alford.

Panganiban of Delmar; grandchildren, Paul E. Alford of Philadelphia, Ana P.

more than 30 years and was a member of the Assembly of God Church of Cairo.

Girardi of San Francisco, Calif., and Concetta Owen of Cairo; 7 grandchildren;
and 19 great-grandchildren.

CATSKILL---Harry Jacob
Miller, 91, of Catskill, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 at Eden Park Health Care
Center where he had been a patient since Jan. 18.
Mr. Miller was born in Hudson on July 31,
1913 to the late George C. and Almeda Bryant Miller.
He graduated from Hudson High School and
was a shop foreman until 1941 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was trained
as a medical technician, graduating from Ordinance Officer Candidate School in
March of 1943. He served overseas in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre for two years
in the 207th Ordinance Bomb Disposal Squad, earning the rank of
Captain upon his discharge from active duty on February 16, 1946. He continued
to serve in the Army until Dec. 23, 1952.
He married the former Elizabeth Westover on
August 20, 1949. He was employed by Grummund Allied in West Athens as a parts
department shipping clerk until his retirement in 1975.
He was a life member of Hudson Lodge #7
F.A. & M., K.W. Evans Hose Co. No. 1 in Hudson, and St. John’s Lutheran
Church in Hudson.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth
Miller of Cairo.
Mr. Miller was predeceased by his sister,
Laura E. Miller.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 25 in the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights,

J. Sasso, 79, died Feb. 10, 2005 at Northside Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla., of
complications of open heart surgery.
He was born in Catskill June 8, 1925 and
was a South Cairo resident until 2003 when he moved to St. Petersburg, Fla. He
worked for New York Telephone Company until he retired in 1984. He was a World
War II veteran and a member of the Elks No. 1341 in Catskill for 29 years. He
also was a volunteer fireman in Hunter for 19 years.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years,
Margaret; a son, Joseph A. Sasso and his wife Sandra of Cullman, Ala.;
daughter, Jeannie M. Schrowang and her husband Hugh J. Schrowang of
Durham, NC; four grandchildren, Allen J. Sasso and Jeannie L. Hudson of Ala.,
Deidre M. Schrowang of New York City, and Hugh Schrowang of Conn; five
great-grandchildren, Avery Hudson, James Hudson, Brandon Schrowang, Nellie Grace
Sasso and Jillian.
He was predeceased by his father, Alexander

87, a resident of Coxsackie, formerly of Red Hook, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005
at the Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck.
Born April 17, 1917 in Lynbrook, she was
the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Harriet Soper. On June 21, 1937, on Long
Island, she married William C. Moore, Sr., who died Oct. 22, 2000.
She and her husband moved to Red Hook from
Long Island in 1956, where they opened Moore’s Toy and Hobby Center.
Over 22 years the business grew and became Moore’s Bike and Hobby
Center.
While living in Red Hook, she was a member
of the Red Hook United Methodist Church and a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels.
In 1978, they retired and moved to Athens.
Then, in 1988 they moved to Bethany Village in Coxsackie, where she lived until
her death.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by
her brother, Jeremiah Soper.
She is survived by her son and
daughter-in-law William C. and Johanna M. Moore, Jr. of Red Hook; and two
grandsons, Jeremiah E. Moore of Lake Tonawanda, and Benjamin W. Moore of Red
Hook.

Lapenta, 71, of Lexington, formerly of Nyack, NY, died suddenly on Feb. 25, 2005
of injuries sustained after being struck by a snowplow.
Born in Nyack on Feb. 2, 1934, he was the
son of the late William and Lucille (Logiodice) Lapenta.
Bill was a veteran . serving in the U.S.
Army. He formerly owned B & B Produce Co. in Nyack and moved to Lexington in
his retirement. He was employed at the Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School as
a custodian and school bus driver for over 12 years.
An avid hunter, he also loved to garden and
was known to give his many friends and neighbors his flowers and vegetables.
Very active in his church community, he was a communicant of St. Theresa’s
Church in Windham and also served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. He will
be missed by many friends and neighbors.
Surviving are his longtime partner, Barbara
Bergin; two daughters, Debra Siddi and her husband Alfred of Valley Cottage, NY,

Calling hours will be held Monday, Feb. 28,
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 1 at
1:30 p.m. from the Decker Funeral Home in Windham with a Mass of Christian
Burial at 2 p.m. at St. Theresa’s R.C. Church in Windham.

ALFONSINA LoBIANCO
Loving wife and mother
CHANDLER, AZ.---Alfonsina
LoBianco, 95, formerly of Greene County, died of natural causes on Dec. 24,
2004.
Born Sept. 4, 1909 in Brooklyn, she was the
daughter of the late Francesco and Angela Blandino.
She married Carmelino (Charlie) LoBianco on
June 29, 1934. They were happily married for 39 years before his death in 1973.
They had six children: Salvatore LoBianco,
Charles LoBianco, and Joanne Dallaero, who reside in Florida, Marie Berg of
Saugerties, Lorraine Viviano of Smithtown, L.I., and Angela Buono of Gilbert,
AZ. She was blessed with 21 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and one
great-great-grandchild.
She was a loving wife and mother and was
affectionately known to family and friends as “Fannie”. She spent her life
as a homemaker and enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Rosary
Alter Society in Palenville, and also belonged to the Senior Citizen Club in
Catskill, and the German-American Club in Cape Coral, Fla.
She spent her last years in Arizona being
cared for by her granddaughter, Benita Olsen, and daughter, Angela.
Besides her husband, she was also
predeceased by Michael Forstl, who she married in 1981. She was also predeceased
by two brothers, Frank and John Blandino, and two sisters, Bertha Amodeo and
Mary Tornetto.
A funeral procession was held Thursday
morning, Dec. 30, 2004, from Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Main Street Chapel,
Saugerties to Sacred Heart Church, Palenville, where a Mass of Christian Burial
was celebrated.
Interment followed at St. Mary of the Snow
Cemetery in Barclay Heights.

SAUGERTIES---Freda B. Martin,
85, of 155 Main St., died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005 at the Eden Park Nursing Home
in Catskill.
Born Feb. 24, 1920 in Saugerties, she was
the daughter of the late Louis and Jeannette Freligh Mickle.
A lifetime area resident, she was employed
for many years in several area dress factories.
She was Past President of the Saugerties
Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, a Past President of Washington Hook and Ladder
Ladies Auxiliary, and a former member of the Saugerties Senior Citizens Club.
She was an avid bingo player and liked to
work on jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include her husband, Earl Martin,
Sr., of Saugerties; a daughter, Freda Deanna Gilmore; a step-son, Earl Martin,
Jr., of Saugerties; two sisters, Mary Mickle and Jeanette Carson, both of
Catskill; six grandchildren: Sue Baxter, Jimmie Gilmore, Paul, David, George,
and Mara Barber, all of Saugerties; two step-grandchildren: April Young and Earl
Martin III, both of Saugerties; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and
nephews.
Mrs. Martin was predeceased by her first
husband, Duane L. Paradee in 1972, a daughter, Leona Barber, four brothers:
Floyd, Marvin, Roger and George Mickle, and two sisters: Lillian Vashe
and Rose Picardi.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday
at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, corner of John and Lafayette Streets,
Saugerties, with Rev. Duane Buddle, Pastor of the Saugerties United Methodist
Church officiating.
Interment will be held in the spring in the
Mountain View Cemetery, Saugerties.

SAUGERTIES---Linda L.
Schuster, 52, of Finger Street, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005 at the Benedictine
Hospital in Kingston after a short illness.
Born May 3, 1952 in Kingston, she was the
daughter of Alice Winne Schuster and the late Henry E. Schuster.
A lifetime area resident, she was a
graduate of Saugerties High School, Ulster County Community College and
University of Buffalo, where she majored in Special Education.
She was a former employee of Ames in
Kingston.
Besides her mother of Saugerties, survivors
include an uncle, Roger Winne of Olivebridge and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held at the
convenience of the family.
Interment will be in the Blue Mountain
Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the
Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., corner of John and LaFayette Streets,
Saugerties.
