1939 beauty queen

HUDSON---Antoinette Ravish Eckardt, 80, of Greenport, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002 at her home.  She was born in Monongahela, PA, on Sept. 21, 1921, daughter of the late Sylvester and Antonia (Kurowski) Ravish.  She was a graduate of Martin VanBuren High School in Kinderhook, and was the former owner and operator of the T.R. Beauty Salon in Hudson.

Mrs. Eckardt was the 1939 Miss Hudson Valley Beauty Queen. She was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart Church in Hudson.

Surviving are her many nieces and nephews, and great and great-great nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband William M. Eckardt;  a sister, Mary Kowalski; and two brothers, Stanley Ravish and Tony Ravbish.

Calling hours were 6-8 pm Thursday at the Mc Donald Funeral Home, 886 Columbia St. Hudson.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am Friday at Holy Family Church in Stottville, with the Rev. Winston Bath officiating. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Valatie.

GOLDIE WHITE

GREENVILLE---Goldie White, 94, of the Pavilion in Catskill and formerly of Westerlo, died Wednesday Jan. 30, 2002 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.  Mrs. White was born Oct. 2, 1907 in Medusa, daughter of the late Walter and Alice (Hubbard) Wright.

She was a public school teacher for 35 years, 30 of which were in the Greenville Central School District.  She retired in 1962.  She was a member of the South Westerlo Congregational Christian Church, and a former member of the Maranatha Valley Chapter O. E. S. No. 38.

Surviving are her husband of 71 years, Donald White of The Pavilion, Catskill; a brother, Porter Wright of Medusa; a niece, Janet Stiles and her husband, Stuart, of Howells;  and three nephews, Allyn Wright and his wife Alayne of Medusa; Richard Carpenter and his wife, Claire, of Somerset, KY;  and Robert Carpenter of Baltimore, MD.  She was predeceased by a brother, Ernest Carpenter.

Calling hours are 11 am to 1 pm Sunday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.  Services will be at 1 pm Sunday at the funeral home.

RICHARD K. FRANCIS
Navy veteran

COXSACKIE---Richard K. Francis, 60, formerly of Coxsackie and Athens, died Wednesday,  Jan. 30, 2002 at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston.  Mr. Francis was born in Coxsackie on April 18, 1941, the son of the late Kenneth and Mildred (Laird) Francis.  He served in the US Navy from 1959 to 1967, and he was a member of the Athens Senior Citizens.

Surviving are two sons, Raymond Francis and Rod Francis of Wisconsin; a daughter Rhoda of Wisconsin, a sister Lois E. Kreig of South Cairo;  two nephews, Herb Kreig and Ken Kreig, and two great nephews, Chris and Greg Kreig.

Calling hours are 11 am to 1 pm Monday at the Richards Funeral Home, 26 North Vernon St., Athens.  Services will be 1 pm Monday at the funeral home, the Rev. Leslie Wilder, interim minister of the Zion Lutheran Church, Athens will officiate. Interment will follow at the New Athens Rural Cemetery in Athens.

CATSKILL---Claude Rose, 90, of Division St., Catskill, died Thursday, Jan 31, 2002, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.  Mr. Rose was born Jan. 22, 1912 in Leeds, Ala., son of the late Abe and Abbie (Hasely) Rose.  He was an employee of Lehigh Portland Cement Co., in Cementon prior to his retirement.

Mr. Rose was an associate of the Mt. Tabor AME Zion Church in Catskill, a member of the Greene County Sportsman's Club, and of the Cement, Lime and Gypsum Workers Local.

Surviving are his wife of more than 66 years, Floree (Anderson) Rose of Catskill, two sons, Robert C. Rose of Catskill and James H. Rose of Hudson; four daughters, Jaqueline M. Merritt of Hudson, Delores Rose of Catskill, Donna M. Rose of Albany, and Mae F. Rose of Catskill; two sisters, Odest Dee Sharpe and Billie Mapp, both of New York City; two daughter's in law, Inez J. Rose of Hudson and Ann Rose of Nebraska; 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a son, Stanley Rose; a daughter, Annie Sims; and eleven brothers and sisters.

Calling hours are 7-9 pm Tuesday at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.  Funeral services will be at 1 pm Wednesday at the Catskill United Methodist Church, Woodland Ave, Catskill, the Rev. Moses Carter, "Pastor of the Mt. Tabor AME Zion Church, Catskill will officiate.  Interment will follow at the Town of Catskill Cemetery.

MICHAEL J. TOOLAN, SR.

FREEHOLD---Michael J. Toolan, Sr., 80, formerly of Freehold, died Thursday, Jan 31, 2002 at St. Peter's Hospice in Albany.  Mr. Toolan was born May, 19, 1921 in New York City, the son of Michael and Anne Gordon Toolan. He was educated in New York City, and was employed by Kraft Foods for 29 years, retiring in 1983.  He was an active member of Our Lady of Knock Knights of Columbus Council No. 6439.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Anne Liely Toolan;  daughters, Mary of Menands and Anne Rowley and her husband and their children, Katie, Clare and Theresa of Latham;  two sons, Michael and his wife, Mary Lisa and their children, Michael, Jerry, Annemarie and Matthew of Bethlehem, PA, and John and his wife Elizabeth, Laura and Lisa Northhampton, PA.  Also, four brothers, Edward, Alfred, Joseph, and Francis.  Brother-in-law, Vincent Neal, and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his sisters, Beatrice and Katherine and brother, William.

Calling hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 pm Sunday at the Richard Funeral Home, 383 Bross Street, Cairo.  Our Lady of Knock Knights of Columbus Council No. 6439 will hold services at 3 pm Sunday.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Monday at the Sacred Heart Church, Cairo, with Rev. Fr. Numan as the celebrant. Interment will follow in the family plot of the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.

CATSKILL---Fanieta Laura Cooke, 91, long time Catskill area resident, died Sunday, Feb. 3, at Columbia-Greene Long Term Care in Catskill.  Born Sept. 17, 1910 in Gilboa, NY, she was the daughter of the late Jay and Laura Tuttle Ostrander.  Mrs. Cooke was a beautician for many years prior to her retirement. She was an active golfer, avid bowler, and enjoyed boating on the Hudson River.

Survivors include a son, Gerald M. Cooke of Catskill; a daughter in law, Emma Cooke of Catskill;  a sister, Gertrude Winter of Kingston; and a grandson, Christopher M. Cooke of Catskill.  Mrs. Cooke was predeceased by her husband, Michael E. Cooke, Jr. on Sept. 22, 1986;  and a sister, Florence Cooke.

Calling hours will be conducted 9-11 am Wednesday, at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.  Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Wednesday at the funeral home, Rev. John J. Murphy, Pastor, St. Patrick's Church of Catskill will be officiating.

Former chef and owner of Hans and Gretel Restaurant

SOUTH CAIRO---Claire Kuever, 65, of Country Estates, Old Route 23, South Cairo, died Feb. 1, at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, after a long illness.  Born Aug. 18, 1936 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret Schult Kuever.  Prior to her retirement, she was a chef and owner operator of the Hansel and Gretel Restaurant in East Durham with her brother Johnny Kuever.  Mrs. Kuever was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the East Durham Fire Company and also a member of the East Durham Vacation Land Association.

Survivors include two sons, Robert J. Warrings of Cairo; Carl S. Warrings of North Carolina; a brother, Johnny H. Kuever of Round Top; and four grandchildren, Samantha, Cody, Cory, and Daniel Warrings.

Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday at the Richards Funeral Home, 383 Bross St. Cairo.  Funeral services will take place at 2 pm Wednesday at the funeral home, with Rev. Victor Nelson, Pastor of the Resurrection Lutheran Church of Cairo officiating.  Interment will follow in the family plot of the Round Top Cemetery.

RAYMOND MAISCH
World War 11 veteran

HANNACROIX---Raymond Maisch, 92, of Hannacroix, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Ann Lee Home in Colonie.  Mr. Maisch was born in Union City, NJ, son of the late Clement Maisch and Louise Shaughnessey Maisch.  He and his family had lived in New Jersey, Oklahoma and Cincinnati before settling on Long Island.

He lived most of his adult life on Long Island, 50 years in Hannacroix and at Bethany Village in Coxsackie for a year before moving to an adult facility in Troy, and then to the Ann Lee Home.  Mr. Maisch graduated from Brooklyn High School. He worked most of his life as a salesman, traveling frequently covering seven states.

He served in the US Air Force during World War 11. He had been an avid motorcycle rider and was a member of the Medway Volunteer Fire Company.

Mr. Maisch was the father of Donald and Harold Maisch; father-in-law of Judith; grandfather of Kim, Simon and Renee, all residing in Australia.  He was predeceased by his brother Walter.

All services were private under the direction of the Babcock Funeral Home in Ravena.

MORGAN D. WILDEY

WEST COXSACKIE---Morgan (Bubby) D. Wildey, 67, of Mansion Street, West Coxsackie, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Albany Medical Center.  Mr. Wildey was born Jan. 5, 1935, son of the late Charles Wildey and Mabel (Seaburg) Wildey.

He was a veteran pf the Korean War.  He was previously employed by American Valve, then worked for Spancrete Northeast, Bethlehem, for 28 years before his retirement in 1995.  He was a member of Local 190 for 28 years, and the Westchester Bricklayers.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce (Hotaling) Wildey; three daughters, Brenda Wildey, April Wildey and Traci Wildey; three grandchildren, Christopher Olivett and Paola, his wife, Olivia Martinez, and Donald Morgan Blowers; two great-grandchildren, Alison Olivett and Zachary Olivett; two sisters, Lois Edwards and Donna Foster, a brother, Thomas Wildey; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday at W. C. Brady's and Sons, Inc., Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie.  Funeral services will be at 1 pm Thursday at the First Reformed Church in West Coxsackie, with interim minister the Rev. Richard Pruiksma officiating.  Interment will follow in the family plot of Riverside Cemetery in Coxsackie.

WASLET, SC---Charles Citelli, 88, of 400 Breezedale, SC, died Monday, Feb 4, 2002 at his residence.  Born in Queens, he was the son of the late Attillo and Anna Pavia Citelli.  Mr. Citelli was a realtor with Peak Realty for more than 35 years.  He was a Mason with the Mountain Lodge in Windham and served in the US Army Air Corps. He and his wife, Evelyn Vessley Citelli, also operated Queens Court Motel and Restaurant on Route 23 for 25 years.

Survivors include four nieces, Debra Joyce of Guileford, CT, Catherine Grippo of Dublin, OH, Carol Martone of Cocoa Beach, FL, and Rose Padrick of Port St. Johns, FL;  four nephews, Dr. Kenneth Citelli of the home, Robert J. Citelli of San Diego, Robert J. Citelli of L?os Angeles, and Richard Citelli of Goshen.

He was predeceased by his wife; two brothers, Rene Citelli and Ludwig Citelli; and one sister, Francis Sommer.  Graveside services will be 2 pm Saturday, at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Long Island.  Funeral arrangements were made by Robinson Funeral Home, Easley, SC.

CATSKILL---Helen Marjorie Marsh, 81, of Forest Hills Estate, Leeds, died Saturday, Feb 2, 2002, at the Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill.  Born Feb 13, 1920 in Manchester, NH, she was the daughter of the late William & Lena Morse Cupples.  Mrs. Marsh was a bookkeeper for the Masr Road Lumber Company in Goffstown, NH, prior to her retirement. Formerly of Raymond, NH, she had been a Leeds area resident since 1985.  

Mrs. Marsh is survived by her husband Charles C. Marsh of Leeds; a daughter, Charlene Brown McDonald of Allenstown, NH; two brothers, David W. Cupples of Manchester, NH, and William W. Cupples of Hooksett, NH;  a grandson, Charles J. Brown of Manchester, NH, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Spring interment will be held at the Bedford Center Cemetery in Bedford, NH.  Funeral arrangements by Traver & McCurry, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

PHILMONT---Duane P. Johnson, 71, of Columbia Ave, Village of Philmont, died suddenly at his home Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002.  Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 8, 1930 in Hudson, and was the son of the late Anna May (Aldbich) Johnson.  He was a lifelong resident of Philmont. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a carpenter and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 265, of Saugerties.  He was a former member of the Philmont Rod and Gun Club.

Besides his mother, he was predeceased by his wife, Merlyn (Sharts) Johnson and a son, Timothy Paul Johnson.  Surviving are a sister, Anna Dedrick of Tivoli;  daughters, Valerie Caruso of Philmont, Deborah Johnson of Catskill and Paula Johnson of New Jersey;  sons, Michael Johnson of Edwards, Brian Johnson of Philmont, 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Calling hours are 6-9 pm Friday at the Valenti & Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport.  Funeral services will take place at 9:15 am Saturday from the funeral home, and then Sacred Heart Church, Philmont, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am by the Rev. Infant Jamaal Meleek Johnson, Jr., died Tuesday, Feb 5, 2002, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.  He is the son of Jamaal Meleek  and Tiffany (Harris) Johnson.

He is survived by his parents; aunts, Darlene Simon and Tanisha Johnson; uncles, Amando Butler, Curtis Johnson, Terell McCalop, and Darnell Johnson;  grandparents, Robert and Bernice Harrus of Coxsackie and Wanda McCalop of Boston and Terrell Johnson of Albany;  great grandparents, Walter and Bertha McCalop of N. C., and Jessie Isreal of New York City; plus many cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 pm Friday at the Valenti and Richards Funeral Home. 700 Town Hall Dr., Hudson.  Rev. Arlette Beecher Hood will officiate.  (No place of burial listed in this obit-AC)

ATHENS---Margaret Lea Rapp, 90, formerly of Athens, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.  Mrs. Rapp resided at Pine Haven in Philmont for the past six years. She was born in the Bronx in May 1, 1911 to the late Charles and Lina Banziger. She and her husband, the late Henry J. Rapp, owned Rapp's Thrift Shop in Athens from 1945 to 1993.

Mrs. Rapp was an office clerk at the German Railroad Tourist Information station in New York City. She was one of the founders of the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Cairo, and served as their organist and Sunday School teacher.  She was a life member of the Lime Street Fire Co. Auxiliary, having donated the land upon which their current station lies.  She was a life member of the Postmark Collectors Club, in addition to being an avid bowler.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Riozzi of Hudson; two daughters, Lisa Shelter of Colorado Springs, CO, and Charmaine Cooper of Long Island;  a grandson, John Riozzi, Jr. of Catskill;  a sister, Anna Drimones of Oakridge, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband, Henry J. Rapp; and a sister, Julianna Apple of Athens.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 pm Friday and 9:30 am Saturday, at Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. Funeral services will be at 11 am Saturday at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Cairo, with the Rev. Victor Nelson officiating. A private cremation will be conducted at the Albany Rural Crematorium on Monday.

CAIRO---Mary Aurora Donahue, 82, of Cairo, died Thursday Feb 7, 2002 at Columbia Memorial  Hospital after a lengthy illness.  She was born Nov. 22, 1919 in Palarmo Sicily, Italy, the daughter of the late Cesar and Frances Passallo.  Mrs. Donahue was a resident of Cairo for 25 years, moving there from Queens. She was a seamstress and was employed by various companies in New York City.

Surviving are her son, Christopher C. Donahue, of Cairo; and several nieces and nephews.  Calling hours are 3-5 and 7-9 pm Saturday, and 2-4 and 7-9 pm Sunday at the Sopris Funeral Home, Inc. 11877 Rt. 9W, Coxsackie.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am Monday at St. Mary's Church, Mansion Street, Coxsackie.  Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

RHINEBECK---Ivy Dale DeBalta, 96, of 12 Springbrook, Rhinebeck, died Saturday, Feb 9, 2002, at The Thompson House in Rhinebeck.  Born, Thursday, April 20, 1905 in Bath, England, a daughter of the late William Snape and Elizabeth Norris Snape.  Mrs. DeBalta immigrated to this country in 1925 and settled in New York City. From 1925-1955, Mr. DeBalta, a professional opera singer, performed throughout New York City.  Prior to moving to Kingston, she resided on King Street, Catskill for eight years. She belonged to the Reformed Church of Catskill.

Surviving are her nephew and caregiver John H. Grant of Kingston, one sister, Joyce Grant of South Carolina; and nieces and nephews in Canada.  Mrs. DeBalta was predeceased by her husband, Stephen DeBalta, and a brother, Gordon Snape.

Calling hours will be 11 am Wednesday at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston.  Memorial services will then be conducted at noon. Inturnment in the Ferncliff Cemetery Mausoleum, Hartsdale, will follow.  (Cremation-AC)

PHILMONT--Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, Feb 9, at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Philmont, with Pastor Ray Ethier, for Duane P. Johnson, who died suddenly Wednesday, Feb 6, at the residence.

Interment followed in the family plot of the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery.  Calling hours were 6-9 pm Friday at the Valenti and Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport.  The pallbearers were: Rick Tanner, Jeff Gardina, Bruce Whitema,, Dana Caruso, Timothy Johnson and Duke Johnson.

CATSKILL---Mary C. Krstovic, 88, long-time Catskill area resident, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.  Born Aug 7, 1913, in Cementon, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Jurasin) Erceg.  Mrs. Krstovic was an employee at the Skyline Restaurant in Catskill for many years prior to her retirement.

Survivors include two nephews, James Erceg of Schenectady and Louis J. Erceg of Concord, NC; three nieces, Eileen Erceg of New York City, Barbara Erceg of Kannapolis, NC. and Ann M. Erceg DePalma of Santiago Chile; and seven grand nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Krstovic was predeceased by her husband, Victor Krstovic on April 6, 1992.

Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.  Services will be conducted 1 pm Tuesday at the funeral home, Pastor John J. World War II veteran

EASR DURHAM---Wilbur Warwick, 80, of County Route 20, East Durham, died suddenly Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, while playing cards and then taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead in the Emergency Room.  He was born March 4, 1927, in New York City.  Mr. Warwick served in the US Army during World War II.  He has been an area resident since 1973. His love was flying planes at the Cairo Airport.

Survivors include a sister, Evelyn Brienlinger of Boston; and six nephews, James and Daniel Warwick, both of East Durham, Edward of Red Hook, Thomas of Germantown, Robert Warwick of Great Neck, L. I. and Eugene Brienlinger of Boston.

Calling hours will be 7-9 pm Wednesday at the Richards Funeral Home, 383 Bross St., Cairo.  Services will take place at 8:45 pm Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Victor Nelson of the Resurrection Lutheran Church of Cairo officiating.  Interment will take place Thursday in the family plot of the Cornwallville Cemetery.

CATSKILL--Johanna Mary Holland, 89, former Cairo area resident, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Country Arch Nursing Home in Pittstown, NJ.  Born April 9, 1912, in Morris Plains, NJ, she was the daughter of the late John and Johanna (Creagh) Fennessy.  She is survived by a daughter, Johanna Cushing of Lambertville, NJ; four sons, Cyril Coleman of Poughkeepsie, James Coleman of the Bronx and Thomas Coleman of Hudson; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two nephews.

Mrs. Holland was predeceased by two husbands, Cyril J. Coleman in 1970 and Daniel Holland in 1993 and a brother, James Fennessy in 1967.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday from the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.  At 11 am a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Mountain Avenue, Cairo, The Rev. Jeremiah Nunan, pastor, will be officiating.  Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Catskill .

Mrs. Marsh is survived by her husband, Charles C. Marsh of Leeds, a daughter, Charlene Brown McDonald of Allenstown, NH; two brothers, David W. Cupples of Manchester, NH, and William W. Cupples of Hooksett, NH, a grandson, Charles J. Brown of Manchester, NH, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be at 10 am Friday at the Grace Baptist Church, 113 Warren Stein Road, South Cairo, with the Rev. Dale Quick, Pastor, officiating. Srping interment will be at the Bedford Center Cemetery in Manchester, NH.

Valk, 78, died Sunday, Feb 10, 2002 at Columbia Greene Memorial Hospital in Hudson.  Mr. Valk was born Sept. 19, 1923, in Saugerties, son of Calvin and Ella Wolven Calk.  He was a lifetime member of the Saxton Fire Company, a member of the Saugerties Pinbenders and bowled in leagues in Palenville and Saugerties. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

Surviving are: his wife, Hilda Shoemaker Valk; eight sons, Michael Valk of Murphy, NC, Mark Valk of Saugerties,  and Harry Valk of Saugerties; Dennis Valk of Gastonia NC, Thomas Valk of Selina, UT, and Stephen Valk of Catskill,  David Valk of Chandler, AZ, Joseph Valk of Palenville.  Seven daughters; Mary Cabiao of Seoul, South Korea, Linda McAvoy, Florence Kelly, Jean Doyle and Diane Hotaling, all of Saugerties, Rose Schachner  of Palenville, and Joy Moore of Rockport, ME;  Three brothers, George Valk of Lake Satrine, Richard Valk of  Saugerties and Donald Valk of Wappingers Falls;  37 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was pre-deceased by a brother, Calvin Valk II, and two sisters; Nancy Clancy and Doris Bogardus.

CAIRO---Anna E. Wingard, 81, of South Durham, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002.  Mrs. Winegard was born in the Stapleton section of Staten Island on April 28, 1921, to Thomas Joseph and Edna Nunley Cummings.  A graduate of St. Peters High School and Mt. Saint Vincent College, Mrs. Winegard started her professional life in 1942 as a chemist in Fort Manmouth, NJ.  In 1951, she entered teaching and in 1958 received her masters degree in Education from Hunter College. After a series of positions in Staten Island, she married Howard E. Winegard and relocated to Cairo.  During her career, Mrs. Winegard taught almost every grade and subject, including high school science and math, and junior high school boy's gym. Children were her passion and she derived tremendous pleasure from her 34 years in education. She retired in 1985. Her interests included travel, sewing, baking, painting, photography and gardening. She was a member of the Monday Council Club and the Greene County Teacher's Association.

Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Winegard, son, Edward Winegard, daughter -in-law, Stephanie Holmes, and grandson, MacGregor Winegard.  She was pre-deceased by two brothers, William and Thomas, and by her husband, Howard E. Winegard.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday at Richards Funeral Home, 383 Bross St, Cairo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 am Thursday at St. Theresa's Church, Windham, with the Rev. Donald Doyle, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow in the family plot of the Cairo Cemetery.

LEEDS---William Bartels, 74, formerly of Leeds for 30 years and most recently, of Naples, FL, died at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, after a battle with cancer.  Mr. Bartels was a Master Carpenter and cabinet maker for more than 40 years. He also taught at the Eddie Parker Vocational Center. He was a volunteer fireman at Leeds Hose No. 1 for more than 25 years. He also was a Mason and a past Master of Catskill Lodge No. 468. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 281st Combat Engineers, US Army, while stationed in Germany.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanne E. Bartels; children, William Bartels, Susan Stird, Edward Bartels and Eugene Bartels;  brother, Eugene E. Bartels; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Services were private.

WINDHAM---a graveside service was held at 11 am Wednesday at Mt. Pleasant Valley Cemetery for Elizabeth J. Howell, 81, who died at her home Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002.  She was born Sep. 26, 1920, in Schenectady, the daughter of the late Thomas N. Maher and the late Evva Allard Maher.  Mrs. Howell, or Betty as she was known, resided in Windham from 1959 to 1970 and from 1988 to the present.  She was a homemaker and also worked part time for several local businesses.

She is survived by a son Michael Howell and daughter -in-law, Donna Sanzen Howell of Windham; a son, Jeffrey Howell and daughter-in-law Claudia Anne Howell of Tucson, AR;  a son, Bryan Howell of Olympia, WA;  a brother, Thomas Maher of Schenectady; and six grandchildren;  She was predeceased by her husband, Judson Howell; brother, Raymond Maher; and sister, Dorothy Kloss.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ---John David Powell, 41, died on Tuesday, Feb 12, 2002, in Somerset Medical Center in Somerville.  Born in Rochester, he grew up in Greenville and lived in Utica, and Freehold, NJ, before moving to Hillsborough Six years ago.  Mr. Powell was an assistant vice-president of data processing for Merrill Lynch in Pennington, NJ. He loved volleyball and joined every league available. He was an avid collector of everything that interested him, especially coins, stamps, crystal, computers and baseball.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Ann (Banks); his stepdaughter, Lynnette Nichole Mace; his parents, Richard and Ann Powell of Oneonta; his brothers, Daniel of Palenville and Mark of Stroughton, MA; his sister, Carol Green of Albany; his three nieces and many cousins.

A memorial service will be conducted 7:30 pm Thursday Feb. 14 in the Montgomery Evangelical Free Church, 246 Griggstown Road, Belle Mead, NJ with pastor Dwight C. Hodne officiating. HOWARD J. D'ARCANGELIS

COXSACKIE---Howard J. D'Arcangelis, 58, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by his entire family and many friends.  Born in Fort Plain, he was the son of Chancy Anthony and Caroline D'Arcangelis.  Mr. D'Arcangelis was a graduate of Siena College in Loudenville and received a Masters Degree in English from the State University at Albany.  He was an English teacher at Bethlehem Central Middle School for 33 years, retiring last January.  He was a devoted family man and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Otesaga (Leather stocking) Golf Club in Cooperstown where he enjoyed playing with friends and family. His hobbies also included carpentry, gardening, reading and bowling.

   He is survived by his mother Caroline; his loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Anne Marie Dardani D'Arcangelis; daughters, Lisa Natalie (Carmen) and their children Lorenzo, Anthony and Giovanna Rose of Ravena,  Teresa D'Arcangelis (Dan) Lappies of Coxsackie, Valerie (Peter) Galante,  son, Antonio of Coxsackie;  brothers  Edward of Stamford, CT, and Raymond  (Linda) of Mariaville, and Chancy of Latham;  sisters, Jeannie (John) of Schroon Lake, Annette (Faruk) of Groton, CT,  Mary Anne (Gary) of Albuquerque, NM, and Carol Lynne of Toronto; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Chancy Anthony D'Arcangelis.

GREENVILLE---Kathleen M. Sharkey, 66, of Greenville, formerly of New York City died suddenly at her home on Feb. 14, 2002.  She was born  on Oct. 10, 1935, daughter of the late John and Mary Ann (Horan) Ferris.  She was a retired cook, having worked at Baumann's Brookside in Greenville for several years.  She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville, a member of the Rosary Altar Society, and was also a Eucharistic Minister and Reader. She was also a member of the Greenville Irish American Club.

Surviving are her husband, Francis Sharkey; two sons, John (Stephanie) Sharkey of Roswell, GA, and Francis (Bernadette) Sharkey of Greenville;  a daughter, Mary Ann (Timothy) Halloran of Norman, OK; three sisters, Eileen (Jack) Cory of Greenville, Marion (Richard) Moore of Boynton Beach, FL, and Bridgette Knopf of Stony Point, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be Monday 8:30 am from the Cunningham Funeral Home in Greenville with Mass of Christian Burial 9 am from St. John the Baptist Church.  Friends may call at the funeral home on  Saturday 7-9 pm and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 pm.  Interment will be in Greenville Cemetery.

PALENVILLE---Lillian Harriet O'Dea, 79, of Hobbs Lane, Palenville, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2002 at home after a long illness.  Mrs. O'Dea was born Oct. 23, 1922 in Queens, daughter of the late John and Mary (Keenan) Murphy.  Mrs. O'ea was an employee at Eutectic Castolin in New York City prior to her retirement in 1986.  A longtime Palenville summer resident, Mrs. O'Dea moved to Palenville permanently in 1986.  She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Palenville.

Surviving are a son, Thomas P. O'Dea of Palenville;  a daughter, Joanne M. (Peggy) Martone of Palenville; a brother, John Murphy of Delaware; a sister, Eleanor Graham of Boston, MA; six grandchildren, Richard, Michael and Nicole Martone all of Palenville, Sandra O'Dea of Mt. Kisko and Joseph (Laura) O'Dea of New York City; and many nieces and n ephews.  She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph P. O'Dea; and five brothers and sisters, Margaret Baugh, Helen Morris, James Murphy, Joseph Murphy and Marion Boice.

 CATSKILL---Joseph Paul Schnur, 49, died at his residence after a short illness.  Born Oct. 29, 1952 in Catskill, he was the son of Adam A. and Frances Lennon Schnur.  Mr. Schnur graduated from Catskill High School in 1970.  He served in the US Air Force from 1972 to 1976 earning the rank of sergeant..  He was the owner-manager of Lil Joe's Bar and Restaurant in Norfolk, VA, until he sold it and returned to Catskill in 1998.

Survivors include his three brothers;  Albert (Butch) Schnur of Catskill, Frank A. Schnur of St. Augustine, FL, and Michael D. Schnur of Catskill;  his sister, Theresa Madrid of Catskill; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents and brother Matthew D. Schnur on Aug. 11, 1990.

Private cremation at Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands on Monday, Feb. 18 was arranged by the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

SELKIRK---Vera Maria Mushaw, 76, of Sky Ridge Lane, Selkirk, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002 following a long illness. Mrs. Mushaw was born Jan. 18, 1926 in Ravena, daughter of the late Frank and Lydia (Hoza) Gajdusek.  She was a senior clerk for the state Department of Taxation and Finance for more than 30 years, prior to her retirement.  Mrs. Mushaw loved cats and devoted her life to them.

Survivors include her sister, Lillian M. Wood of Earlton.

She is survived by a sister, Helen San Giacomo of Kingston; two nieces, Marilyn Barrett of Merritt Island, FL, and Ann Collins of Catskill; nephew, Jack Schwartz of Savannah, GA; and several great-nieces and nephews.  Her husband, Frederick Sugden predeceased her.

Private funeral services were held Monday at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.  Interment followed at St. Patricks Cemetery in Catskill.

SOUTH CAIRO---Edwin Lawrence Lasher, 55, of Route 23B, Cairo, died at home on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002.  Born Jan. 31, 1947 in Saugerties, he was the son of Dorothy A. Reinecke Lasher and the late Edwin Lasher.  Mr. Lasher served in the US Navy from Jan. 31, 1964 to Dec. 18, 1967 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.  He set up machines for button manufacture at EMSIG in Hudson.

Survivors include his wife, the former Sheena Tefft; his mother, Dorothy Esner of South Cairo; six children, Grace Ann Romak and Mark Lasher, both of Cairo. Jodie and Jason Edwards and Melissa and Melanie Lasher;  his brother, James Rano of Hendersonville, NC; Four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lasher was predeceased by his father and infant son, Richard Lasher.

ROUND TOP---Lisa Caspari, 81, of Round Top, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002 after a long illness at her home with her family by her side shortly after celebrating her 81st birthday.  She was born Feb. 9, 1921 in Germany and came to the United States with her husband Karl in 1956.  Together they lived in Astoria, Queens, and bought property in Round Top in 1964.  Mrs. Caspari was well known throughout Round Top as a good samaritan always willing to help and welcome people into her home.  She was a community activist, musician, poet, author and beloved grandmother.  She was a member of the Round Top Community Church and the Happy Homemakers. She loved gardening, baking, knitting, photography, music, writing songs and short stories and playing piano.

Survivors include two sons, Peter of Miami, FL, and Roland of Round Top; a daughter, Ilona of Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren, Michele Pearce, Domenic Caspari, Mariella Caspari, Carol McDonald, Jessica Hall, Elizabeth Hall, Christopher Hall and Rebecca Hall; four great-grandchildren; as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.  Mrs. Caspari was predeceased by her husband Karl who died in 1969.

ATHENS---John E. Johnson, 90, a former Schoharie Turnpike, Athens resident and longtime resident of Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002 at Columbia Memorial Hospital at Hudson.  Born June 21, 1911 in Schodack Landing, he was the son of the late Howard Faye Johnson and Anna I. Deitz Johnson.  He retired from Allied Boat in Catskill in 1973 where he was a rigger. Previously he was a foreman for Knaust Bros. mushroom growers for 32 years when he retired in 1959.

Survivors include his son, John J. Johnson of Coxsackie; two sisters, Madiline Borras of Albany and Jean Davids of Schodack Landing; grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Mr. Johnson was predeceased by his parents, his wife Carmella Johnson in April 1990, his brother Howard Faye Johnson, his daughter Elizabeth A. Addis, and his sister Pauline Smith.

ANCRAM---Dawn Marie Kilmer, 36, of Ancram, died suddenly Friday, Feb 15, 2002, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.  Born Nov. 29, 1965 in Sharon, CT, she was the daughter of Ralph H. and Lorraine Sulkey /Kilmer, Sr. of Pine Plains.  She was a lifelong area resident and attended Pine Plains Central School.

Survivors include her parents; her husband, Gary Brusie of Ancram; a brother, Ralph H. Kilmer, Jr. of Ancramdale; a sister Bonnie Lilley of Ancram; a niece, Mandy Lilley and four nephews, Scott Lilley, and Chad, Joseph and Ralph Kilmer III; and several aunts, uncles, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

Pickard, 90, of Dorman Road, Freehold, died Feb. 18, 2002 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson after a long illness.  Born Sept. 14, 1911 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Cunliffe.  She had been an area resident for more than 30 years. Besides being a devoted homemaker, she was a member of the Cairo United Methodist Church, the Cairo Chapter O.E.S. No. 380, and the Garden Club.

Survivors include her son George of Freehold; three grandchildren, John James, Michael and Stephen; and two great-grandchildren, Hanna and Peyton. She was predeceased by her husband, Stephen; son John; and sister Bernice Drew.

Calling hours will be 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm Thursday at the Richards Funeral Home, 383 Bross St. Cairo. The Cairo Chapter O.E.S. No. 380 will conduct services in her memory at 7:30 pm.

Solycha, 78, of West Coxsackie, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002 at Albany Medical Center.  Born June 16, 1923, in Landshuet, Germany, she was the daughter of Paul and Elizabeth Nirschl Bognar.  Mrs. Solycha was a retired Bindry worker at the Transcript Printing Co. in Elmsford, NY.  She was honored for her contributions to Meals on Wheels. She loved crafts.

Survivors include two sons, Roman Doskocz of Catskill and Justin Doskocz of Malone, NY; and two grand children, Jessica and Marlena Doskocz.

WEST COXSACKIE---Matthew Christopher Walsh, 15, of Highmount Road, West Coxsackie, died Monday, Feb. 18, 1987 in Albany, son of Timothy and Christina Bulich Walsh.  Matthew was a student at Christian Brothers Academy in Albany. He enjoyed baseball, soccer, hockey, basketball, hunting, and spending time with his large loving family. He was a proud member of the Christian Brothers Academy community.  Matthew was a true "gift from God."  He was very brave, strong, loyal and loving. His family is very proud of him and will honor him all the days of their lives. They love him very much.

Besides his parents, survivors include his sisters, Jessica and Meghann; his brother Mark; maternal grandparents,  Frank and Ann Bulich of Catskill; paternal grandmother, Theresa Walsh of Masapequa Park, LI; 21 cousins, 11 uncles and 10 aunts.  He was the godson of Robert Walsh and Bernadette Bulich Kowalski.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Yowell of East Durham, Irene McQuillen of Florida and Rita O'Brien of East Durham; six grandchildren, Donna Murphy of Queens, Martin O'Brien of Long Island, John O'Brien of East Durham, and James, Michael and Diane Russo, all of Florida; and a niece, Marion Batt of North Carolina.  Mrs. McQuillen was predeceased by her husband, John Joseph McQuillen on May 23, 1963; and five brothers, Herbert, James, Harry, and Charles Stark, and Mary Bowes.

Dr. Krapf was a World War 11 Veteran who served in the US Army Air Force.  He retired as a Doctor of Chiropractics, practicing in Brooklyn and Greenport.  Dr. Krapf was a member of the Stockport Fire Company, Stuyvesant Falls VFW, and the Monday Night Bowling League in Catskill.

Survivors include two sons, Jack Krapf of Carteret, NJ and George Krapf, Jr. of Churchtown;  two daughters, Mary Ann Krapf-Faria of Riverside, CA and Susan Kelly of Cairo; two brothers, Jack Krapf of Anchorage and Charles Krapf of Taghkanic;  four sisters, Ella Fella of Germantown, Dorothy Brisboise of Orlando, FL, Kathy McKay of Claverack and Lorraine Garson of Kinderhook; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  Dr. Krapf was also predeceased by two daughters, Linda Krapf and Cynthia Coon and  the brother of the late Fred Krapf, Janet, Donald, and Harriet Krapf, and also Florence Krapf.

Calling hours will be 7-9 pm Friday at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Route 9, Valatie.  Services will be conducted 11 am Saturday, Feb. 23 at the funeral home with the Rev. Sharon Sauers officiating.  Interment will be in the Stuyvesant Falls Cemetery.

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA.---Mary E. Torchia, 87, of Virginia Beach, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002 in a local Hospital.  She was born in Hudson and was the widow of the late Patsy J. Torchia, who predeceased her in 1986.  She is survived by two sons, Anthony Torchia and his wife Pauline of Coral Springs, FL, and Michael Torchia and his wife Lynn of Virginia Beach, VA; four grandchildren, Mark, Jennifer, James and Nadine; and seven great grandchildren.

Calling hours are 6-8pm Sunday at the Valenti & Richards Funeral  Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 am Monday at Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson. The Rev. W. Bath will officiate.

GREENVILLE---Anna Montos, 82, of Surprise, died Friday Feb. 22, 2002 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. She was born in Dickson City, PA, on July 26, 1919, daughter of the late Joseph and Eva Blayda Florek.  She was a retired professional dancer.

Surviving are her sister, Lottie Skula of Surprise; and several nieces and nephews.  Her brother, Stanley Florek predeceased her.

Calling hours are 1-3 pm Monday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville. Funeral services will be at 3 pm Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery.

VIOLA ANDERSON

GREENVILLE---Viola Anderson, 78, of Greenville and formerly of Franklin Square, LI, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2002 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.  She was born in the Bronx on Sept. 1, 1923, daughter of Ernest and Emily Johannsson Thornquist.  She was a former member of the Franklin and Theodore Roosevelt Republican Clubs, and was also a former treasurer of her church's Sunday School.

Surviving are her husband, Carl Anderson, two sons, Richard A. (Sandra) Anderson of South Hampton, LI, and Carl E.  (Ann Marie ) of Greenville;  four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Calling hours are 2-5 pm Sunday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am at the funeral home (day omitted). Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery.

WILLIAM HALES
Area entrepreneur

COXSACKIE---William Hales, 78, of Coxsackie, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002 as a result of injuries he sustained in an automobile accident.  Born Jan. 10, 1924 in Guttenberg, NJ, he was the son of the late Anton and Anna (Gaspar) Hales.  Mr. Hales married Oct. 19, 1946 to Eva Schur who died Feb. 11, 1996. He was an Army veteran of WW11 and served with the Third Infantry Division in Sicily and Italy as a Tech 5.  He received the Purple Heart for injuries he sustained on Oct 16, 1943 in the Army's movement from the Volturno to Mount LaDiFensa in Italy.  After his recovery, Mr. Hales was promoted to Corporal and was stationed at a POW camp in Naples. He was later awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.  After the war he worked for the American Lifeboat Company in Athens and at the Kiskatom Boat Yards.  Mr. Hale and his brother Julius owned Hales Bros. Building Contractors in Athens and Coxsackie for a number of years.

Survivors include his three children, Catherine Apa of Waynesboro, PA, Kenneth Hale and Judith Konsul of Hannacroix,;  his sister Elizabeth Van Schaack of Athens; brothers, Julius Hales of Athens and Frank Hales of Alabama; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  Mr. Hales was also predeceased by three brothers, Steven, John and Anton Hales.

Calling hours will be 4-7 pm on Sunday at the Sopris Funeral Home, Inc., Route 9W. Coxsackie.  Services will be conducted at 11 am Monday, Feb. 25, 2002 in St. Mary's Church, Mansion Street, Coxsackie.

COXSACKIE---Bernard A. Porter, 86, of Coxsackie, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson after a long illness.  Born Sept. 10, 1915 in Coxsackie, he was the son of the late William and Virginia (Banks) Porter.  Mr. Porter was a lifetime resident of Coxsackie and worked for the American Valve Company for 50 years, retiring in 1972.  He was a member and trustee of the Bethel A.M. E. Church, and a member of the Coxsackie Senior Citizens.

Survivors include six sons, Bernard Porter, Jr. and Joseph Porter of CT, Richard  Porter and Francis Porter of Coxsackie, William Porter of Alexandria, VA, and Dr. John Porter of Tuscon, AZ;  13 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Mr. Porter was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Oliver) Porter in 1993; a son Thomas Porter; three brothers, Robert, Kenneth and James Porter; two sisters, Bernice Miller and Henrietta Coleman.

Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday at the W. C. Brady's Sons, Inc., Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie.  Services will be conducted 11 am Tuesday, Feb. 26 at the Bethel A.M.E. Church, 123 Mansion Street, Coxsackie with Rev. Wright officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery following the service.

MARY GRAY

COXSACKIE--- Mary Katherine Gray, age 86, of Earlton, died Saturday evening, Feb. 23, 2002 at Long Term Care in Catskill.  Born May 25, 1915 in Laghey Bar, County Donegal, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late George and Roseann (McCaffrey) Melley.  On April 28, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY she married John Joseph Gray who survives at home.  Mrs. Gray was a resident of Coxsackie since 1956, moving here from Brooklyn. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Coxsackie.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters; Lynn Brunner of Athens, Lorraine Finnerty of Gresham, OR, and Marlene Taranto of Earlton. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Dean Finnerty, Robert Brunner, Jr., Eric Finnerty, Shawn Finnerty, Brendon Brunner, Jennifer Taranto and Justin Taranto; and 10 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased  by her sister Margaret Santana.

Calling hours will be conducted from 4-7 pm Tuesday at Sopris Funeral Home, Inc., on Route 9W in Coxsackie.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 am on Wednesday, Feb. 27 in St. Mary's Church, 80 Mansion Street, Coxsackie.  Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

JOHN WILSON
World War 11 veteran

GREENVILLE---John "Slim" Wilson, 75, of Greenville, died suddenly Thursday Feb. 20 at his home.  Born July 30, 1926 in New Haven, CT, he was the son of the late John H. and Viola Cooper Wilson.  He was a veteran of World War 11 serving  in the US Navy and was awarded the Asian-Pacific Medal, the American Theater Medal, the European Theater Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal, and the Victory Medal.  Mr. Wilson was formerly employed at Owens Corning in Feura Bush and was a member of the Greenville American Legion Post 291.

Survivors include three daughters, Kim Beverly Lopez of Hazelton, PA; Pamela Quintana of Coxsackie; Charlotte Berkner of Medusa; a step-daughter, Betty Dittenber of Sanford, FL; two step-sons, Robert Babcock of Greenville; and Patrick Babcock of East Greenbush; also 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  Mr. Wilson was predeceased by his wife, Orvetta and a son John.

Funeral service will be at 7:45 pm Friday from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898, Route 81, Greenville.  The Greenville American Legion Post 291 will conduct services at the funeral home at 7:30 pm Friday.  Cremation was at the Albany Rural Cemetery.  Interment will be at the Saratoga National Cemetery.

SAUGERTIES---Peter Ferretti, 79, died Sunday, Feb 24, 2002, at his home.  He was born Sep. 7, 1922 in Cementon, son of Antonio Ferretti and Teresa Riti  Ferretti.  Mr. Ferretti was employed as a general mill foreman at the Alpha plant for 38 years. He was a life member of the VFW Post No. 5034. He was a member of the NRA, an avid bowler and a former member of the Cementon Sportsman's Club.

He is survived by three sisters, Elizabeth Coons of Athens, Ann Murray of Hudson and Amelia Stewart of Kingston;  a brother, Victor C. Ferretti of Palenville and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Sturgill and Jean Sowersby.

A funeral procession will form 10:45 am Wednesday at Freer & Galietta, Inc. Funeral Home, 25 Ulster Ave, Saugerties, and then proceed to St. Mary of the Snow Roman Catholic Church where at 11:30 am a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Pastor Hugh R. Grace of the church will officiate. Interment will follow in the St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery, Barclay Heights.

JOHN L. RICHARDS
Paper industry worker

COXSACKIE---John L. Richards, 96, formerly of Pleasant Street in AuSable Forks, died Friday Feb. 15, 2002 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.  He was born in AuSable Forks on Feb. 16,  1905, son of Isiah and Alice McFarland Richards.  He was employed in the paper industry in northern New York for more than 40 years.  He also operated the Richards Insurance Agency in AuSable Forks during that time.  Mr. Richards was a member of the AuSable Forks Volunteer Fire Department for many years.  He was also a trustee of the Holy Name Catholic Church in AuSable Forks.

Surviving are a daughter, Sarah Richards of Coxsackie, with whom he lived for the past several years; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Burke Richards, and a brother, Sherman Richards.

There were  no calling hours. A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, Feb 18, 2002 at the Holy Name Catholic Church. Interment will be in the spring in the family plot at the parish cemetery.  Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable Forks is in charge of Arrangements.

WINDHAM---Katherine Muller, 94, of Windham, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002 at the Robinson Terrace Nursing Home in Stanford.  Born Feb. 22, 1908 in Windham, she was the daughter of Frank and May Kissock Strong.  She was a school teacher in the Cairo Central School District for many years.  Mrs. Muller was predeceased by her husband George and son Blair.

Survivors include her daughters, Margaret Muller of Hudson and Katherine Shumylo of Albany.

A private cremation took place Feb. 21 at the Wiltwyck Crematory in Kingston.  Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Decker Funeral Home in Windham.

WINDHAM---Joseph Mark Politan, 52, formerly of Windham, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002 at Albany Medical Center.  Born Jan. 30, 1950 in Brooklyn, he was the son of Eugene and Fay Fisherman Politan.  He is survived by his sons, Anthony Charles of Cairo, Joseph and Michael of Saugerties; his former wife Joann; brother Arthur and sister-in-law Jody of Levittown, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be noon to 1 pm Friday at the Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main St., Windham. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Ashland.
