Catskill—For many decades the Heck name was synonymous with the zoos of Berlin and Munchen in Germany and Upstate New York.

Professor De. Ludwig Heck became the director of Berlin Zoological Gardens in 1888, and rapidly built this collection until by 1914 it was the largest of its kind in the world in terms of animal collection.

Like all German zoos, the severe financial problems occasioned by the inflationary pressures of World War II greatly reduced the collection, but allowed the exhibits to come through the war intact. Ludwig’s son Lutz became his principal assistant and by the 1930’s succeeded his father as director.

Just prior to the great war, a small zoo had been created in the suburbs of Munchen and it too saw severe problems and closed. Ludwig’s other son Heinz who had briefly worked for the Hagenbeck family in Hamburg viewed the Munchen site as possibility for a new kind of zoo, one designed along geographic lines, and saw to the creation of Tierpark Hellabrunn. Back in Berlin, Lutz who had married Heiga von Deines, had a daughter, Katrin (born in 1922 and died in 1943), and two sons, Lutz (born in 1924) and Heinz (23 September 1927). Both boys had the whole of the Berlin Zoo as a playground and they grew up often helped the keepers, and not surprisingly, became zoologist like their father, Lutz and Onkel Heinz in Munchen. Both the Berlin Zoo and Tierpark Hellabrunn became major attractions and animals were traded between the two zoos. But along came World War II, and both zoos suffered major damage. Tierpark Hellabrunn had acquired in 1936 and 1938 four of the new species of great ape, the Bonobo and one of the females was in fact pregnant when the remaining three died in an air raid on Tierpark Hellabrunn in 1944, which destroyed most of the Zoo. The Berlin Zoo in the center of the city suffered severely no doubt due its location.

As the war was coming to a close the family moved to Wiesbaden and young Heinz moved to his Onkel Heinz’s place in Munchen. Tierpark Hellabrunn like most German zoos began to rebuild and Heinz was employed at the zoo. He attended the University at Muchen where he received his Doctor rerum naturalism magna cum laude in 1951. He married Inna Dolgoff (born in 1928 in Ruga, Latvia ) in 1952.

About this time Roland Lindermann (also a former Berliner) was expanding his Catskill Game Farm in New York State into a major collection of ungulate mammals. One of the species he was most interested in was the Mongolian wild horse, and Tierpark Hellabrunn was the home of the one of the best herds in the world. The species was fast disappearing from its wild home, and Roland wanted very much to bring it to Catskill to build up a new group. He was successful in being able to acquire a number of Prezewalski horses for his zoo and was able to persuade Dr. Heinz Heck and his wife to accompany the horse to the U. S. in 1956 and perhaps become his curator, which Heinz did when he immigrated to the U. S. in 1959.

Daughter Margarete Heck was born in Munchen in 1959, and when only six weeks old moved with her parents to Catskill. A son, Georg was born in Albany in 1966 Heinz became a regular attendee of various zoo conferences in America. Heinz was submitting notes to Der Zoolgische Garten on species being bred in Catskill, such as the hatching of king vultures, a very rare event. In 1968 he was the author of the book Der Bison published in Germany. The Catskill Game Farm by this time held probably the premiere collection of rare ungulates, especially equines, deer and antelopes. Heinz Heck spent his 32 years at the Catskill Game Farm as their zoological director. Irina Heck passed away in 1980. Margarete was awarded her B. A. in Biology from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1981, and her Ph. D. in Cell Biology from Johns Hopkins University in 1988. Georg received his B. A. in Zoology from SUNY Oswego in 1988. Heinz retired from the Catskill Game Farm in 1991 at the age of 63.

Upon his retirement, Heinz moved to Parkton, Md., to live with his daughter Margarete. He often submitted articles for “The Zooculturist,” a journal published by the International Society of Zooculturist, a group interested to promoter the exchange of knowledge, experience and information between the private and public sectors, for the preservation and propagation of captive wildlife. His papers told of his boyhood in the Berlin Zoo, a trip by his grandfather at the turn of the century to the collect ion of Baron Falz-Fe3in at Askania-Nova in the Ukraine, histories of the Quaggo and Aurochs (now extinct wild ancestral species of zebras and cattle, respectively), and later a running column on zoological facts. Margarete and her husband Prof. William Earnshaw and their two children, Charles Lutz Heck Earnshaw (born in 1991) and Irina Katharine Heck Earnshaw) born 1993 immigrated to Scotland in 1996, and Heinz joined them. Both parents run active biomedical research laboratories in the Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell Biology at the University of Edinburgh. Georg is an account executive with R. & L Carners living in West Henrietta, N. Y., with his wife Kim, daughter, Julia Lynee Heck (born in 1994) and son Samuel Patrick Heck (born in 2000) Heinz enjoyed retired life in Scotland, especially spending time with Charles and Irina and their friends and reveling tin the European nature and wildlife once again.

Heinz died peacefully at this cottage next to his daughter’s house in Peebles, Scotland, March 3, 20002. He is survived by his brother Lutz, living in Sibylle and their two children in Germany, and his children, Margarete and George and their families.

Heinz will be laid to rest in the Catskill Rural Cemetery next to his wife Irina. The service will take place Aug 3, at 3 p.m.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Millspaugh Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

He was born march 2, 1967, the son of William Hendricks and the late Alice (Bahr) Hendricks.

Survivors include his father, William Hendricks, and his step mother Mary (Cunfer) Hendricks of Claysburg, Pa., his paternal Grandmother Emily Hendricks of Catskill; three brothers, Michael and Lester Hendricks of Albany and Jason Hendricks of Watervliet; a stepsister, Melissa Shirk of Jersey Shore, Pa.; two stepbrothers, Jeremy Greene of Tannersville and William Greene of Jersey Shore, Pa.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Calling hours will be 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.

Hudson—George D. Lacitignola, 63, of County Route 67, Leeds, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Community Hospice at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

He was born in Brooklyn on Feb. 9,1939, the son of the late Dominick and Rosemarie Lacitignola.

Funeral services will take place Saturday, Aug. 3, at 2 p.m. at the Catskill First Baptist Church, with Pastor Richard Snowden officiating.

Mr. Lacitignola had been an area resident for the past 18 years. He loved model trains, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Catskill. During his years of employment, George was a brick layer for Union Local No. 1 of Brooklyn.

Mr. Lacitignola is survived by his wife, Gwen (Holm) Lacitignola of Leeds; five sons, Jerry Lacitignola of Cairo, George Lacitignola of Richmondville, Brian Lacitignola of Belleville, Ill., and Daniel and Joshua Lacitignola, both of Cairo. He is also survived by a brother, John Lacitignola of Athens; a sister, Rosemary Glossing of Florida; five granddaughters; and two grandsons.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attended calling hours on Friday at the Richard Funeral Home, 383 Bross St. Cairo, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The day of the funeral, everyone is to meet at the church. Family members will meet at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m.

Suisun City, Calif.—At his request, no formal services are planned for William E. Gardner, 80, who died at home surrounded by his wife, son, family and friends.

A native of Saugerties, Mr. Gardner retired from the Air Force in 1965 and lived in the Fairfield/Suisun area over 30 years.

Upon graduation from high school, Mr. Gardner worked in the engineering department at the Pratt Whitney Aircraft Defense Plant in upstate New York. In November 1942, Mr. Gardner entered the Army and was selected as a cadet for pilot training. In May of 1943, he married his wife Eleanor in Bainbridge, Ga., and shortly thereafter graduated as a second lieutenant in the class of 43 H. He continued his pilot training delivering aircraft from defense plants and ferrying them to various bases around the country, finally overseas orders transferred the squadron to their assignment flying the treacherous “Himalayan Hump” in the China, Burma and India region, carrying supplies that were critical to the success of the 20^th Bomber Group of B-29s fighting in Japan. At the end of World War II, Mr. Gardner returned to civilian life.

At the beginning of the Cold War he was recalled into the Air Force to participate in the Berlin Airlift from 1948 to 1949. As a member of the 61^st Troop Carrier, he continued to fly missions in the North Pacific Air lift during 1950 and the Korean Airlift in 1951. The flight crewmembers were among the most commended and decorated of those who served in this area. The squadron was issued a Presidential Unit Citation. As an Aircraft Commander, Mr. Gardner continued to fly to Europe from his base at Westover in Massachusetts, until he settled down to become a C-97 Instructor Pilot and Flight Examiner at West Palm Beach AFB in Florida. He was then stationed at Hickman AFB in Hawaii from 1956-1960 as Operations Officer in the Military Air Transport Squadron (MATS), in the Mid-Pacific Command Post.

From 1962 through 1964, Mr. Gardner was the MATS Liaison Officer and Commander of the MATS detachment located in the American Embassy at Karachi, Pakistan. In December 1964 he was assigned to the 60^th Aerial Port Squadron at Travis AFB, California, until his retirement in 1966 with the rank of Major. After proudly serving his country for 24 years he enjoyed his retirement years traveling in his RV and fishing in Yellowstone National Park with family and friends. He belonged to the Solano Sams, Cowtown Campers and Westerners RV Clubs. His greatest pleasure was playing his guitars. Mr. Gardner was a master guitar player, A special thrill for him was that he was able to play in the Glenn Miller Band for a short period as a cadet in Montgomery, Ala. His grandson Michael played the guitar during Mr. Gardner’s last hours and he slipped into the night listening to the strains of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

Mr. Gardner praised the staff of David Grant Hospital for their good work and the Hospice of North Bay for excellent care in the last week of his life.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Eleanor, son William of Suisun City, son Robert and fiancée Susan of Tennessee, son Richard and daughter-in-law Debra of North Carolina, brother Roy of New York, brother Don and wife Joan of New York, brother-in-law Harry Wagner and wife Kay of California, father-in-law Dominick of Suisun City, former daughter-in-law Sandier Gardner of Tennessee, grandson Robert and wife Carmen of Tennessee, grandson Michael and fiancée Courtney of Suisun City, granddaughter Lara “No.1” of Georgia, granddaughter Emily of North Carolina, grandson Tommy of Tennessee, grandson Caleb of North Carolina, granddaughter Carrie and husband Brandon of Tennessee, granddaughter “Special” Liza of Suisun City, grandson Neil of Suisun City, granddaughter Julie of Tennessee, granddaughter Jeannette of Suisun City, “Great Grandchildren” Brandon, Kelsey, Ava , Victoria, and Savannah, all from Tennessee, and many wonderful nieces and nephews and also “Tante” Tilly of New York. He was predeceased by his brother Jack.

Interment will be private.

Greenville---Marc D. Mauriello, 37, of Old Plank Road, Greenville, died suddenly Aug. 2 at Catskill.

Born Jan. 6, 1965 in Long Island, he was the son of Louis and Barbara (Schmidt) Mauriello of Greenville.

Mr. Mauriello was a musician and could play any instrument. He also composed music and also was an accomplished artist.

Besides his parents, he is survived by a son Arthur Mauriello of Cairo; three brothers, Louis of Peekskill, Michael of Durham; Matthew Mauriello of Greenville, two sisters, Deloris Boehlke of New Baltimore and Annemarie Hollywood of Voorheesville.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Richards Funeral Home, 383 Bross St. Cairo.

Albany---Roland A. Slingerland, 66, of East Berne passed away at the St. Peter’s Hospice Inn in Albany on Aug. 4, 2002. He was born on Nov. 21. 1935, and was the son of the late Arthur J. & Mabel C. (Stewart) Slingerland. Mr. Slingerland served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a teamster for more than 40 years and had worked at Albany Asphalt Co., in Albany. He was a former member and past president of he Westerlo Volunteer Fire Company, a former member of the Basic Valley Rod & Gun Club, and he was also a avid hunter and loved the outdoors.

Mr. Slingerland was the loving husband form more than 40 years to Janice “Jan” (Cooke) Slingerland. He was the dedicated father of Terri (Patrick) McGraw of Delmar and Todd Liosa Slingerland of Guilderland, the beloved “Poppi” to his “Little Beefs” Ryan, Riley, and Casey McGrew, Quinn, Brett and Shayne Slingerland. He was the brother of Norma D’Alfonsi of Metuchen, NJ, James Slingerland and Joan McDermott of Westerlo, and he will also be missed by his many nephews and nieces and friends.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 10 a.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, Route 81, Greenville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in the South Berne Cemetery. Cairo---Ann Veronica Ward Skelly, 69-years-oild, of Roosevelt Avenue, Cairo, died peacefully at her home on Aug. 4, 2002.

Mrs. Skelly was born on Dec. 22, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Edward Ward and Bridget (Burns) Ward. Ann was born in Mt. Vernon.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, 11 a.m., Aug. 8, 2002 at Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham, with Fr. J. Nunan as the celebrant.

Interment will follow in the family plot of St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Catskill, next to her late husband Bernard, who pre-deceased her in 1988.

Mrs. Skelly was an active member in many organizations. She was a member of the America Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Cairo Ladies’ Elks, LAOH, Our Lady of Knock Shrine Committee, she was a teacher’s aid for 19 years at the Cairo Elementary School for nine years, she was a board of elections volunteer, a member of the Democratic Club, worked in the Cairo Information Booth, she was a Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Church and St. Mary’s, and she also worked for the fundraising for the Irish Cultural Center. She was also a member of the Cairo-Durham School Board for three terms.

Mrs. Skelly is survived by three sons, Brain Skelly and his wife Marcia (Cook) Skelly of Leeds, Sean Skelly and his wife Joanne (Wedow) Skelly of Rochester, and Ton Skelly and his wife Laura (Patterson) of South Cairo, two daughters, Maureen Skelly Ledinick and her husband John Ledinick of Cairo, and Shelia Skelly Clapp and her husband Dave Clapp of Cairo. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren, Kevin, Kristin, Jaime, Andrew, Ryan, Dylan , Maueve, Bridget, Joshua and Megan. She is also survived by her sister Elizabeth Ward Banks and her husband Bill Banks of Florida, and also two nieces Patty Banks and Lorraine Banks.

Besides her parents, Ann is predeceased by her husband Bernard in 1988 and her sister Mary Ward in 1997.

In lieu of flowers, contribution in her memory may be made to Our Lady of Knock, East Durham.

Elka Park---Joseph R. Dunn, 56, of Elka Park, died Monday Aug. 5, 2002 at Kingston City Hospital in Kingston.

He was the proprietor of the Cheer’s Restaurant in Tannersville for over 15 years.

Survivors include his mother, Ann Dunn of Southbury, Conn; his wife Janet Dunn of Elka Park; a sister, Ann Marie Dunn Giradina of Southbury, Conn.; one granddaughter, Kristien Dunn Cappelino.

Calling hours will be conducted 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, Main Street, Hunter.

Hudson---Burdette Van Schaack, 89, of Union street, Hudson, died Monday, Aug. 5, at Columbia Memorial Hospital. He was born April 2, 1913 in Athens. He is the son of the later Peter and Minnie (Speenburgh) Van Schaack.

Mr. Van Schaack was an employee of the Lone Star Cement Co. in Hudson for 25 years and worked for state New York State Corrections in Hudson for 20 years. He was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a supporter of the Hudson Area Library. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the U. S. S. England.

Mr. Van Schaack is survived by two daughters; Karen Van Schaack of Menands and Mary Ellen Benware of Evansville, IN. He is also survived by two grandsons; Jeffrey Benware and his wife Angie of Newburgh, IN and Michael Benware of Evansville, IN.

Mr. Van Schaack is also survived by a brother, Kenneth Van Schaack of North Carolina, sisters-in-law Sophie Forschler and Ellen First of Hudson and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his wife Helen Firth Van Schaack, sisters Lena, Elizabeth and Helen, and brothers Harold, Alfred, Arthur, Robert, Donald, Howard, and Walter.

A visiting hour will be Thursday, Aug. 8, from 10 to 11 a.m. with services immediately to follow at the Bates & Anderson Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson. Greenville—Martha A. Maunton, 82, of Greenville, died at Friday, Aug. 9, 2002 at North Adams Commons, in North Adams, Mass.

She was born in Greenville, on April 10, 1920, daughter of the late Jesse and Hellen (Cameron) Huested.

A graveside service will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday, at the Greenville Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.

Hensonville—Crockett Hoyt, 47, of Hensonville, died Sunday, Aug 11, 2002, at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, after a brief illness.

He was raised by his maternal grandparents, the late Harry and Helen R. Hoyt of Hensonville.

Survivors include his brother, Harry Hoyt of Purling; sisters, Kate (Hoyt) Praetorius of Palenville; Linda (Hoyt) Poehmel of Hensonville; Frances (Hoyt) Kiefer of Tenn.; Norma (Hoyt) Alberti of Windham; Noreen (Hoyt) Delong of Hensonville; and biological sister Marlene Augustien of Purling, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Hoyt was predeceased by his mother Mildred South and brother, Burdett South of Purling.

Calling house will be 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, at the Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Windham.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, with Pastor Maybelle Renzi of Windham United Methodist Church.

Catskill---Lillian Elizabeth Ketcham, 89, wife of Clifford M. Ketcham, and Long Island native, died Monday morning, Aug. 12, 2002, at 161 Jefferson Heights.

Born in Islip, Long Island, on Nov. 28, 1912, Mrs. Ketcham was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Minerva Anderschock Young and in late years made her home with her son Clifford T. Ketcham and his wife, Kathy near Leeds, together with her husband, Clifford M. Ketcham.

Survivors include her husband, her son and daughter-in-law as well as four grandchildren; Eileen Ketcham of Enfield, Conn., Kerri Ketcham of Saratoga, Thomas Ketcham of Menands and Brian Ketcham of Saratoga. Also surviving is her sister Helen Kraft of New Castle, Pa., and a nephew and niece.

Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, with the Rev. Richard Lutz, former interim rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Catskill, officiating. The services will be followed by interment in the Ketcham family plot in the Oakwood Cemetery at Bay Shore, L. I.

Her family will receive relatives and friends after 8 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Coxsackie---Robert D. Raffiani Sr., 59, of Las Vegas, Nevada, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at the Valley Hospital, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Born in Catskill on Sept. 13, 1942, he was the son of the late Francis and Catherine Raffiani.

Mr. Raffiani was a retired sergeant with the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. He had been a resident of Nevada for 11 years, living in Las Vegas. He is a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of VMCCA.

Survivors include his wife Madonna Raffiani of Las Vegas; a daughter, Adina Howley of Bunnell, Fla.; two sons, Richard Raffiani of Virginia Beach, Va., and Robert D. Raffiani Jr. of West Coxsackie; brothers Charlie Raffiani of Earlton, Francis (Shorty) Raffiani of Palenville, Jon Raffiani of Earlton, and Paul Raffiani of Harrisburg, Pa., step brothers John Vandenburg, of Cairo and Roger Vandenburg of Freehold; stepfather John Vandenburg of Earlton; and several grandchildren.

Besides his parents he is predeceased by a brother Phillip Raffiani and stepbrother Richard Vandenburgh.

Graveside services will take place 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Southern Nevada Veterans Cemetery.

Catskill---Josephine Mary Hodor, 91, of Catskill, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at Columbia Greene Long Term Care in Catskill. She was born on March 19, 1911, in Catskill, the daughter of the late Charles and Agnes (Mackovitch) Sauerzopf.

Mrs. Hodor was a volunteer reading partner at the Irving School in Catskill for more than 20 years. She was predeceased by her husband, John V. Hodor Sr., and 13 brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Hodor is survived by two sons, John V. Hodor Jr. of Catskill and Robert C. Hodor of Ancram; a daughter, Marie H. Decker of Catskill; 23 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Friday followed by a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, Bridge Street, Catskill. The Rev. John J. Murphy, pastor, will be officiating. Interment will follow in Catskill Rural Cemetery.

Catskill---Harriet Vanderpool Rockefeller, 86, of 147 West Bridge St., Catskill, died Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 13, 2002 at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Catskill---Harriet Vanderpool Rockefeller, 86, of 147 West Bridge St., died Tuesday , Aug. 13, 2002, at Eden Park Health Care Center where she had been a resident since July 19, 2002. She was a daughter of the late Claude and Jennie Mulder Rockefeller. Ms. Rockefeller was born in Revere, Mass., on July 5, 1916.

Ms. Rockefeller’s infant years were spent on Cape Cod, her maternal grandfather Derek Mulder, having been in charge of the Hydraulic dredges used in the building of the Cape Cod Canal in Bourne, Mass. The rest of her childhood was spent in New Baltimore, and she graduated from Coeymans High School in June 1934.

Ms. Rockefeller may be remembered for her piano instruction to many area youths during the 1940’s and 1950’s. She worked as a licensed practical nurse to at Greene County Memorial Hospital in the 1940’s, followed by private duty nursing to area residents.

She was an active member of the Catskill Methodist Church and, as an active member of the Catskill Chapter No., 293 Order of the Eastern Star since 1954, she served as Marshal. As active member of On-Ti-Ora Chapter National Society Daughter of the American Revolution since 1955, she served many years as American Heritage Chairman with honors and citations.

Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16 at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., with the Rev. Robert Johnson, pastor of the Hudson United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Chestnut Lawn Cemetery in New Baltimore where the NSDAR service will be conducted by On-Ti-Ora Chapter members.

Catskill—Aurea Lydia Rivera, 69, of 37 Willowbrook Farm Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002 at Eden Park Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 3, 1932 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Manuel and Anna Aquino Crespo.

Formerly of Manhattan, Mrs. Rivera had been a Catskill area resident since 1998. She was predeceased by her husband Santos Rivera in 1982; a brother Manuel Crespo and a sister, Ramona Lopez. Mrs. Rivera was a member of the Oblate Missions.

Ms. Rivera is survived by two sons, Charles Lopez of Orlando, Fla., and Herbert Lopez of Puerto Rico; two daughters, Aura Lopez Vega of Catskill and Linda Louise Ocasio of Manhattan; a brother Richard Aquino of the Bronx, and Maria Crespo of Manhattan; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, on Friday and Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening. The Rev. John J. Murphy, pastor, St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church of Catskill will be officiating. Private cremation will be performed at Park Crematory in Schenectady.

Greenville---Walter L. Blodgett, 76, of Westerlo died as St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany on Aug. 15, 2002. He was born and raised on the Allegheny Reservation in Killbuck on Aug. 7, 1926, son of the late Donald and Mildred Blodgett. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II on the USS Miami and received the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal with 5 stars and the Purple Heart. Mr. Blodgett had retired from the Albany County Highway Department where he had worked for many years as a mechanic. He was a member of the VFW. Tri-Town Memorial Post No. 7229 and the Greenville American Legion Post No. 291. He was known and loved by many and will be missed by all.

Surviving are his children, Larry Blodgett of Atlanta, Ga., Karen Blodgett of Voorheesville, Donald Blodgett of Huntsville, Ala., Dale Blodgett of Colonie, Barbara Razik of Cobleskill, Carol Johnson of Hyde Park, Suzan Blodgett of Castleton, Steve Blodgett of Arlington, Texas, Michael Blodgett of Westerlo, Daniele Blodgett of Westerlo and Sherrie Blodgett of Westerlo. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, one great-grandson, a brother Thomas Blodgett of Cocoa, Fla., and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Blodgett.

Services will be Sunday, 8 p.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville. Greenville—Antoinette Fazio, 46, of Greenville, died at the Hospice Inn of St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany on Aug. 14, 2002. She was born in Oneonta on July 27, 1956, daughter of Tina (Belline) Fazio and the late Michael A. Fazio. She was the Assistant Manager of Just A Buck, located in Bryant’s County Square, Greenville.

Surviving besides her mother, Tina Fazio, are a son, Anthony Fazio and his friend Danielle Corellis of Rensselaer, a sister, Ginna Nelisi of Brick Town, N. Y., a brother Michael Fazio of Coral Springs, Fla., and her three stepsisters, Paula Ann, Michelle and Leslie Ann.

Services will be Friday 8:30 p.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday 7 to 8:30 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Hullington Cemetery, Morris, N. Y.

Catskill---Francis William Lewis, 84, of 2 Austin Acres, Catskill, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. He was born March 28, 1918 in Gettysburg, Pa., the son of the late Warren and Rosa (Himes) Lewis.

Mr. Lewis served in the U. S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Local No. 106 Operating Engineers of Albany.

Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife Marie Antoinette (Prisco) Lewis of Catskill; a son, Gary Lewis and wife Gail, both of Raleigh, N. C. a stepson, Ralph Vendresco and wife Patricia Greens, both of Athens; a step-daughter, May Lou Konopka and husband Joseph, both of Smith’s Landing; and a granddaughter, Tracy Rankin and husband Todd, both of Raleigh, N. C.

Mr. Taylor died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002 at the Community Hospice at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

He graciously donated his remains to the Anatomical Gift Program at Albany Medical College.

Cairo---Terrie Miranda, 72, of 687 Main St., Cairo, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002 at Columbia-Greene Long Term Care Nursing Home, Catskill.

Greenwich---Gail L. Columbe, 52, a resident of Old Schuylerville Road, died unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, at her home.

Born June 18, 1950 in Rockville Center, L. I., she was the daughter of Gloria Lutes Vasta of Climax and the late William Lutes.

Mrs. Columbe was a retired employee of NYNEX Telephone Company and was employed as a bus driver for the Schuylerville Central School. She was a leader of the Adirondack Girl Scouts Council for America.

Survivors in addition to her mother include her husband, Maynard Joseph Columbe of Greenwich; a son, Christopher Columbe of Greenwich; a daughter, Ashley Columbe of Greenwich; a stepson, Joseph Columbe of Arizona; a stepdaughter, Tracy Columbe of Schenectady,; her stepfather Vincent Vasta of Climax; two brothers, John W. Lute of Cairo and William Lutes of Catskill; two sisters, Christine Lute Labuda of Climax; and Charlene Lute Hull of Oak Hill; four grandchildren, Stephen, Timothy; Ryan, and Anthony; mother-in-law, Shirley Columbe of Greenwich; several nieces and nephews, in-laws, and many loving friends.

Mrs. Columbe was predeceased, in addition to her father, by a sister, Valerie Lute Stewart; a brother Gerald Lutes; and a niece, Meline Curschmann.

Plainfield, Conn.---Margaret Kosorek, 81, of Plainfield, Conn., formerly of Norton Hill, and Pinellas Park, Fla., died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, at the Day Kimbel Hospital in Putnam, Conn.

She was born in New York City on Oct. 23, 1920, daughter of he late Patrick and Nora (Lynch) Curtin.

Survivors include her two sons, Thomas Kosorek, of Plainfield, Conn. And Raymond Kosorek of Westerlo; a daughter Patricia Caragine of Ossining; four grandchildren; and a brother, Patrick Curtin of Hicksville.

Catskill---Terri Miranda, 72, of 687 Main St., Cairo, died Aug. 18, 2002 after a long illness at Columbia Greene Long Term Care, Catskill.

She was born in Brooklyn, April 30, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Albert and Janet (Spero) Miranda.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 21, at 9:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Cairo. The Rev. Jeremiah Nunan will be the celebrant.

Interment will follow in the family plot in the Round Top Cemetery in Round Top.

During her years of employment, Terri was a hairdresser. She also had been an area resident for 35 years. Terri enjoyed life.

Ms. Grobe is survived by a sister, Elizabeth J. Dovigh and husband Frank, both of Catskill; a brother, Ralph Phoenix; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Harold P Riley, 30 of 34 Cedar Lane, Coxsackie, died Aug. 28, 2002 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in Hudson.

He was born in Catskill on Feb. 5, 1972, the son of the late Wallace C. and Beverly Ann (Bersch) Riley.

Cairo---Elizabeth J. Coons, 77, of 25 South Washington St., Village of Athens, died Aug. 21, 2002, at her residence with her family beside her.

She was born in Cementon on Sept. 8, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Antonio and Theresa (Riti) Ferretti.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Washington Avenue, Athens. Pastor Richard Boyle will be the celebrant.

She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church of Athens. She loved cooking and soap operas.

During her days of employment, she worked for Atlanta Knitting Mills and the Kadin Brothers Pocketbook Company.

She is survived by three sons, Ronald A. Coons Sr., Peter J. Coons and Anthony M. Coons, all of Athens; a brother Victor Ferretti of Palenville; two sisters, Anna Murray of Hudson and Emily Stewart of Kingston; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Earlton---Leonard Hotaling, 79, of Route 81, Earlton, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002 at Albany Medical Center.

Born Sept. 29, 1922 in Earlton, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Irving) Hotaling.

He was a lifetime resident of Earlton and began farming the family farm in 1942, the Abright’s Dairy Farm.

He is a member of the Masonic Ark Lodge No. 48 F & AM, a member of the O.E.S. Kaksakee Chapter No. 873 of Coxsackie, a member of the Grange, a member of the Farm Bureau, and a member of the Earlton Volunteer Fire Company.

Mr. Hotaling was employed by the Coxsackie Correctional Facility for 10 years as Head Farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Overbaugh Hotaling of Earlton; three stepsons, Timothy Albright of Athens, Harry Albright and William Albright, both of Earlton. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Ravena---Ronald K. Hotaling Sr., 75, of Ravena, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at the Veteran Hospital in Albany.

Mr. Hotaling was born in Coxsackie and had lived in Ravena for 58 years. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Navy CB. He owned and operated Dixon’s Taxi Service in Ravena since 1961 and had been a bus driver for Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk School and had his own milk route in Coxsackie. He had been involved in many local organizations and was very civic-minded.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Ann Noeth Hotaling of Ravena; children Ronald (Joyce) Hotaling of Ravena, Kevin (Janice) Hotaling of Alcove, Brent (John) Cross of Cedar Hill, and Brian (Jackie) Hotaling of Ravena; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hotaling was predeceased by his brothers Aaron (Ding) and Earl (Bucky) Hotaling and his sister Blanche (Sis) Sportman.

Rensselaer---Maria A. South (Greiner,) 65, of Rensselaer, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002 in her home peacefully of natural causes.

Born in Catskill, she was the daughter of John C. Grenier and Marie A. Fischer, both of Catskill. Ms. South was retired after 22 years from the Albany Police Department where she was the telecommunications supervisor.

Ms. South had many friends and colleagues in the police department and throughout the Albany area and loved her work until her retirement in 1999.

Ms. South is survived by her father, John C. Greiner of Cairo; her children, Mark L. Grenier and his family (wife Marina, grandchildren-Danielle, Stephen and Gabrielle) of Poughkeepsie, and Lisa A. King and her family (husband-David, grandchildren Daniel, Katrina and David Jr.) of Latham.

Ms. South wishes were to not be remembered for her passing but to be remembered for her passion for life. She worked, loved and lived hard, but her heart was something too special for words.

She enjoyed a special relationship with her children, that of mother and friend, and will be cherished forever. She loved this work and she was concerned with wildlife and peace throughout the world. She was thoughtful, understanding and caring. She was an avid reader, consuming a book a day sometimes, and loved fishing and sewing.

Ms. South is with our Lord now for all eternity. She did not wish to memorialized and those wishing to remember Ms. can recognize her love for wildlife through a donation to the Natural Wildlife Federation, 11100 Wildlife Center Drive, Reston, Va. 20190 in her name.

Coxsackie—Janice Marie Hallock, 65, died at her home at 28 Matthew Lane, Coxsackie, on Aug. 21, 2002.

She was born on Oct. 13, 1946 in Catskill to the late James and Marcella Palmer.

Ms. Hallock was employed by the New York State Comptroller’s office for 30 years until her retirement in October 2001.

Survivors include three sisters, Peggy Palmer of Albany, Marcella Palmer of Albany and Lorraine Palmer of Coxsackie; three brothers, Robert Palmer of Cary, N. C., Dennis Palmer of Coxsackie and David Palmer of Coxsackie; nine nephews; seven nieces; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Catskill---George Harry Vandermark, 76, of Catskill, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at the St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, where he had been a patient since Aug. 6.

Mr. Vandermark was born in Coxsackie on Aug. 4, 1926, to the late John and Catherine Cross Vandermark. He served in the National Guard from 1970 to 1986 and the U. S. Army from 1948 to 1955, earning the New York State Long and Faithful Service Award in 1968 from the Guard. He was retired from the New York Department of Transportation in Catskill and Cairo. He was a 50-year life member of Citizens Hose Co. No. 5, a member of the Royal Order of Blue Vests, B.P.O. E. Lodge No. 1341 and Sullivan-Teator VFW Post No.770.

Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7-9 p.m. Members of Citizens Hose Co. He was predeceased by his wife, Sandra Desco Vandermark on Sept. 18, 1997, and nine siblings, Raymond Vandermark, Robert Vandermark, Elton Vandermark, Margaret Gasbarro, Lillian Macfie, Dorothy DuBois, Madeline Dedrick, Catherine Appollonia and Stanley Vandermark.

Greenville---Ethel Wetmore, 88, of Oak Hill, died at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital on Aug. 23, 2002. She was born in Cairo on Aug. 30, 1913, daughter of the late Charles and Lavina (Hitchcock) Warner. She had retired from Stiefel Laboratory where she had been employed for many years. She was a member of the Catskill Valley Grange, the Coxsackie Seniors, the Lebanon Valley Speedway Hall of Fame and the New York State Stock Car Association Hall of Fame.

She enjoyed attending the stock car races with her family since 1953 and only missed when she had surgery. She was always the lady seen sitting in a car hauler. She would always give a helping hand to someone else before thinking of herself and she would care for the homeless animals of the village, making sure that they were fed. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are two sons, Stanley Wetmore of Oak Hill and Donald Wetmore and his wife Debbie of Concord, N. C.; a stepson, Louis Searing and his wife Jane of Greenville; a sister-in-law, Lillian Warner of Cairo; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her longtime companion Fred Searing; two brothers, Ernest C. Warner Sr. and Stanley B. Warner; and a sister Madeline Chichester.

Services will be Tuesday 11 a.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday 6 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Catskill---Delores “Lorie” Seeley, 71, of Catskill died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002 at the hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany where she had been a patient since Aug. 3, 2002.

Mrs. Seeley was born in Catskill on March 25, 1931 to the late Clifford and Anna Vandermark Bronk. She was a graduate of Catskill High School and married Arthur G. Seeley on May 20, 1956. She was a seamstress for an area business for many years and retired from Kay Inc. in Hudson in 1996. She and her husband also owned and operated Art’s Deli in Jefferson Heights for many years, where the Stylaire Hair Studio is now located. She was the second eldest member of the First Baptist Church in Catskill.

Mrs. Seeley is survived by her husband, Arthur G. Seeley of Catskill; their two children, Kevin C. Seeley and Karen A. Seeley Mower, both of Catskill; three grandchildren, Joseph Mower, Nicole Mower and Christine Seeley; one sister, Joan Schieren of South Cairo; especially devoted aunt and uncle Grace and Joe Bundy; aunt and uncle Clara and Edward Vandermark; several nieces and nephews and cousins; and lifelong friends Roseann Nangle, Betty Rizzie and Winnie Granwehr.

As per her request there will be no calling hours or funeral services. Direct cremation was conducted Saturday at the Albany Rural Crematorium under the direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill. Mrs. Seeley’s memorial service will be Friday, Aug. 30, at 2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on Grandview Avenue Circle with interment following in the Town of Catskill Cemetery. Greenville---Gerard Kennelly, 74, of Cornwallville, died a the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany on Aug. 23, 2002. He was born in Queens on Jan. 7, 1928, son of the late James and Amelia Kennelly. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was a retired machinist/welder, having retired form the L & B Products in Hudson. He was former coach for the Oak Hill-Durham Little League and was a life member of the East Durham Volunteer Fire Co.

Surviving are his wife, Diane (Davies) Kennelly; his children, Nancy McGahan and husband Michael Gelsand, Thomas McGahan and wife Mary, Elizabeth Kubernach and husband John (Chris) Kubernach, Russel McGahan and his fiancé Kim Callacie, Neil Kennelly and his wife Karen; and his grandchildren, Amy, May, Bethany, Joanne, James, Tori, Brooke, Sarah, Christen, Connor and Thomas Gerand.

Services will be Monday 10:15 a.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville, with a Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Knock Shrine, East Durham. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. As to his wishes, cremation will be at the Albany Rural Cemetery. Those who desire may contribute to the Oak Hill-Durham Little League or the Community Hospice of Albany.

Philmont---Robin J. Klima, 60, of 2 Church St., Philmont, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002 at Community Hospice at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Hudson July 19, 1942 ad was the daughter of George and Ruth (Sweet) Hamm.

Mrs. Klima has been a lifetime resident of Columbia County. During her years of employment she worked for Crellins Plastic Co. of Chatham for 32 years retiring in 2002.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years Michael R. Klima of Philmont, three sons, Michael of Fla., Jeffrey of Stuyvesant, Scott, of Ghent, a daughter, Jennifer Klima of Philmont, three sisters, Joy Althizer of Hudson, Beverly Rath of Hudson, Susan Clark of Iowa, six grandchildren, Jeffrey Klima, Christopher Klima, Ashley Thompson, Michael Klima, Alexia Klima and Keegan Klima.

Coxsackie---Sophie Bruns, 93, of Leonard, Md., formerly of Earlton, died Aug. 24, 2002.

Catskill---Anthony Andujar, 23, of 75 Anthony Drive, South Cairo, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002 at Albany Medical Center. He was born March 9, 1979 in East Meadow, L. I., the son of Damaso and Doris (Kenny) Andujar.

In addition to his parents, Anthony is survived by a sister, Lisa Marie Andujar of South Cairo; his grandparents, Betty and Rosario Sanzone of Cranford, N. J.; a step-grandmother, Sophia Andujar of Connecticut; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held noon Thursday, Aug. 29 at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. Interment will follow in Catskill Rural Cemetery.

Catskill---Peter Francis Scrivani, 72, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002 at the Eden Park Healthcare Center where he had been a patient since July 26, 2002.

Mr. Scrivani was born in Brooklyn on Feb. 4, 1930 to the late Peter F. Scrivani and Marie Evelyn King Scrivani. At 17, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served with Company A 3^rd Infantry at Fort Myer in Virginia where he was assigned to guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as well as serving as an escort to guard President Eisenhower. After the service he was employed by the New York State Highway Department as a truck driver in Brewster prior to his retirement and relocation to Athens.

Friends and relatives are invited to call the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill on Tuesday, Sept. 3 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service with clergy from St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church will be conducted at 8 p.m. Private cremation will take place on Wednesday at the Albany Rural Crematorium with interment of the remains in New Fairfield Conn.

Mr. Scrivani is survived by his mother, Marie Scrivani, who resides at the Adventist Home in Livingston; a son, Richard Scrivani; daughter-in-law Donna Scrivani; granddaughter Jessica Scrivani; brother Edward Scrivani; a nephew; two nieces; and many friends; including Mr. and Mrs. Bradford E. Hedges of Sleepy Hollow.

Catskill---Vernon J. “Smity” Hull, 78, of 710 Rudolph Weir Road, Earlton, died Tuesday Aug. 27, 2002 at the Stratten Veterans Affairs Medical Center Hospital in Albany.

Born Aug. 22, 1924 in Alsen, he was the son of the late Paul and Mary (Whitaker) Hull.

Mr. Hull served in the U. S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. Stationed in the European Theater of Operations, Mr. Hull was a member of the Army First Battalion, 3^rd Infantry and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Mr. Hull was an operating engineer for the Peckham Materials Corp in Catskill until his retirement in 1987. He then moved to Orlando, Florida., and South Cairo area to retire.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Cutler) Hull of Earlton; a son, Paul D. Hull and wife Janice of Purling; a daughter, Audrey J. Albright of Orlando, Fla.; stepchildren, Scott Wynne, Kelly Zindell and Patrick Wynne; three brothers, Clifford Hull and wife Dean of Orlando, Fla., Paul A. Hull of Catskill and Kenneth Hull and wife Kay of Hudson; a sister Arlene Wooton and husband William of Florida; five grandchildren, Brent Albright, Audra Misuraca, Heidi Albright, Paul J. Hull and Melanie Hanway; four great-grandchildren, Danielle and Megan Misuraca and William and Jordan Hull; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hull was predeceased by his first wife Ruth A. (Ferrier) Hull on Sept. 18, 1978; and two sisters, Audrey Riffley and Pauline Van Valkenburg.

Greenville---Peter J. Garbarini, 90, of Preston Hollow, died peacefully on Aug. 27, 2002 at Childs Nursing Home in Albany, where he resided since 1999 due to failing health.

Mr. Garbarini was born in New York City on Oct. 31,1911, son of the late John and Celestina Garbarini.

He spent his youth in this family’s native Italy, returning to the United State as a young man in his 20’s.

Mr. Garbarini proudly served his country during World War II in the U. S. Army as a cook in Ardennes and the Rhineland Central Europe.

He worked for many years as a chef for the Skyline, Jack’s Oyster House and Beverly Farm on week-ends. He was also employed by Albany County Highway Department building many of the local stone walls seen around our bridges.

He had a love for the land and nature and especially his garden. He music and dancing.

Survivors include his beloved daughter, Celeste Garbarini and her fiancé Paul Saccoccie of Coxsackie; a son, Peter J. Garbarini of Buffalo, his former daughters-in-law, Kathleen Garbarini of Schenectady and Alice Garbarini of Buffalo, a sister, Madeline Cedrini of Cornwallville; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Garbarini was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Mandraccia) Garbarini in 1999; a grandson, Dennis Garbarini; and several brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews in Italy.

Calling hours will be 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home, with an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Knock Shrine.

Coxsackie---Sophie Bruns, 93, of Leonardtown, Md., died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Maryland after an illness. She is formerly of Earlton.

She was born July 20, 1909, in New York, the daughter of the late Dimitri and Tatianna (Sitka) Sydor.

Windham---Andrew J. Dresser, 73, of Prattsville, died on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002 at Benedictine Medical Center in Kingston.

He was born on June 13, 1929 in Oneonta to Frank S. and Marie E. (Becker) Dresser.

He is survived by his two sisters, Sue Fick and May Joe Kaczmarczyk; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dresser had a master of fine arts from SUNY Oneonta. He worked with the Peace Corps in La Paz, Bolivia, and traveled extensively throughout Europe, studying art in the Hague in the Netherlands. Mr. Dresser was a retired art teacher from Catskill High School. he was also active in tutoring for the GED programs. He was a member of the Pratt Museum in Prattsville.

Funeral services were entrusted to Decker Funeral Home of Windham. They will be held on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at the Dutch Reformed Church, Prattsville, with the Rev. Dianna Smith presiding.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in his memory to the Dutch Reformed Church of Prattsville of the Pratt Museum would be greatly appreciated.

Catskill---Bertha Hess,91, of Preston Hollow passed away at the Columbia-Greene Long Term care in Catskill on Aug. 29, 2002. She had also been a resident of St. Joseph’s in Catskill for several years. She was born in New York City on Feb. 9, 1911, daughter of John and Anna Smrkovsky. She was a former member of the Rensselaerville Senior Citizens and worked in the Preston Hollow Post Office as a clerk for many years.

Surviving are her step-daughter Evelyn Mackey and her husband Stannard of East Durham, her step grandchildren Eileen Ketcham, Rita Mackey and Catherine Calder and four step-great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be Monday, 11 a.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 91, Greenville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Brookside Cemetery, Preston Hollow. Those who desire may contribute in her memory to the town of Rensselaerville Ambulance.

Earlton---Rose C. Schwartz, 93, of Earlton and New York City died Aug. 27, 2002 after a long illness.

She was born Jan. 18, 1909 in New York City, and was the daughter of the late Heinrich and Rachel (Brenner) Kamm. In addition her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband, Herman.

Private burial took place Friday, Aug 30. at 1 p.m. in the family plot of The Knollwood Park Cemetery in Ridgewood.
