COXSACKIE--- Mary Tedesco, 90, of Coxsackie, died Feb. 28, 2006 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
She was born Jan. 26, 1916 in Coxsackie. She was a homemaker, but in the 1950’s, she worked as a waitress for a period of time at Chris’s Greek Restaurant on Reed Street.
She was married to the late William (Bill) Tedesco.
Her survivors include her daughter, Regina DeCarlo of Parrish, Fla.; her son, Nick Tedesco of Odessa, Fla.; six grandsons; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild.
Following her cremation, her remains were sent to Florida where she spent most of her winters.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Sopris-Murray Funeral Home in Ravena.

GREENVILLE--- Ralph E. Gardiner, 86, of Westerlo, died at the Guilderland Center Nursing Home in Guilderland on March 31, 2006. He was born in White Earth, ND on May 5, 1919. son of the late Albert and Belva (Sorkness) Gardiner. Ralph was a lifelong farmer owning and operating the Gardiner Farm in Westerlo. He was a member of the Hiawatha Grange and the Catskill Glee Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Westerlo. Ralph was a loving father and grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Molnar) Gardiner and a sister, Belva Gardiner.
Surviving are his children, Laura Gardiner of Westerlo, Lawrence Gardiner and his wife, Linda, of Westerlo, Donna Gardiner of St. Petersburg, Russia, David Gardiner and his wife, Elaine, of Freeport and Susan Gardiner of Eatontown, NJ; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Russell Gardiner of Spring Grove, Ill.; two sisters, Lois Bray of Gray, Maine and Martha Slingerland of Unionville; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be on Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Westerlo. Friends may call at the church from 5 to 6:30 p.m. the Hiawatha Grange also will conduct a service at 6:30 p.m. at the church.
Interment will be on Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at 10 a.m. in the Westerlo Rural Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.

GREENVILLE---Dorothy S. Howard, 98, formerly of Freehold, died on April 1, 2006, at the Eastern Star Nursing Home in Oriskany.
She was born in Freehold on Aug. 31, 1907, daughter of the late Elmere and Fanny (Seabridge) Story.
Dorothy attended school at Freehold School District No. 2, and graduated from Cairo High School and Albany Business College.
She was a rate clerk for the Pioneer, Greene County, Catskill Mountain Insurance Companies and a bookkeeper for the supervisor of the Town of Greenville.
Dorothy was a member of many organizations: Order of Eastern Star, Cairo Chapter; On-Ti-Ora Chapter of the DAR, Catskill; Meeting House Hill Chapter of the DAR (associate member); Cairo Golden Age Club; AARP Greene County Chapter; Freehold Literary Club; Catskill Valley Historical Society, charter member; Greene County Historical Society; Greenville Local History Group, charter member; Huguenot Historical Society; and the Freer-Low Family Association.
She also was a member and deacon emeritus of the Freehold Congregational Christian Church in Freehold and a member of the Freehold Cemetery Association.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Purl R. Howard and a brother, Niles Story.
Surviving are her two daughters, Vivian Peek and her husband, George, of Liverpool and Adele Cooney and her husband, Peter, of Silver Springs, Md.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville, on Wednesday, April 5, 2006, following an Eastern Star service at 2 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 2 p.m. Interment will be in the Freehold Cemetery.

CATSKILL---Margaret M. Law, 89, of West Bridge Street, Catskill, died Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born Sept. 6, 1916 in Catskill, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine LaBosco Cardinale.
She worked at several dress factories as a seamstress most of her life, and babysat for all her grandchildren as well as her great-grandchildren.
In her later years, Mrs. Law became interested in antiques and flea markets. She will be missed not only by her family, but by friends she made during her years as a flea market dealer.
Survivors include five sons and four daughters-in-law, Harry Law, Jr. of Catskill, Joseph and Ann Law of Catskill, John and Rose Law of Catskill, Daniel and Ginger Law of Richmond, Va., and Stephen and Kathy Law of South Cairo; three daughters and a son-in-law, Dolores Stough of Leeds, Anna and Fred Zindell of East Durham and Margaret Powers of Catskill; a sister, Amelia Mattick of Albany; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harry A. Law, Sr., on Oct 12, 1964.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.
Funeral services will be held 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday from the funeral home, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, Cairo, with the Rev. John J. Murphy officiating.
Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Catskill.

ATHENS---Lukia E. Holowinska, 95, of Schoharie Turnpike, Athens, died Sunday, April, 2, 2006, at Fox Hospital in Oneonta, Otsego County.
Born Jan. 5, 1911 in Ukrainia, she was the daughter of the late George and Julia Majewska Holowinsky.
Ms. Holowinska had lived in America for 30-plus years.
She had resided in Athens since 1947 and was a member of the St. Nicholas Church in Hudson.
Prior to her retirement, she was a clothing designer and teacher.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Richards Funeral Home, 28 North Vernon St., Athens.
Funeral services will take place noon Friday at the Holy Spirit Ukranian Cemetery in Campbell Hall, Orange County, with the Rev. Father Yaroslak Kostyka, a good friend, officiating.

CATSKILL--- Herman W. Diller, Sr., 89, of Catskill, died April 2, 2006 at home after a long illness.
He was born September 17, 1916 in Hawthorne, the son of the late August and Ella (Yerks) Diller.
Mr. Diller served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was an employee of the New York State Department of Corrections at Coxsackie Correctional Facility until 1979, and the Greene County Sheriff’s Department prior to his retirement in 1996.
Mr. Diller was predeceased by a son, Herman W. Diller, Jr. on June 11, 2001, and a brother, August Diller.
Mr. Diller is survived by his wife, Mrs. Evelyn M. (Durham) Diller of Catskill; two daughters, Sheron Regan and husband, Michael, of Catskill, Beverly Prusky and husband, Victor, of Earlton; grandchildren, Paul Vosburgh, Christine Lackie, Lisa Rice; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. Officiating was the Rev. Joyce Wilkerson, Pastor of the Catskill United Methodist Church.
Interment with full military honors was at the Town of Catskill Cemetery.

CATSKILL--- Nicholas P. Pavlovich, Jr., 61, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at his home in North Bergen, NJ.
Mr. Pavlovich was born in Cementon on Feb. 24, 1945 to the late Nicholas P. and Helen Macaska Pavlovich.
Upon graduation from St. Patrick’s Academy in Catskill, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam War.
A resident of North Bergen for over 30 years, he was a former insulator with Local No. 12 in New York City. He was a member of the American Legion Post in North Bergen.
Mr. Pavlovich is survived by his three loving sisters, Mrs. Peter (Helen) Kraljevich of New Jersey, Mrs. John (Carol) Konsul of Athens, Mrs. Wayne (Linda) Rice of West Hurley; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother, Helen, in 1953, his father on Nov. 29, 1976 and his sister, Barbara Nollet of Saugerties in 1991.

CAIRO--- John G. Bovio, 82, died April 6, 2006 at Columbia Memorial Hospital. Born in New York City on Nov. 17, 1923, he was the son of the late Frank and Marie Bovio. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham, with the Rev. John Murphy at the Celebrant. Interment will follow in the family plot of the Catskill Rural Cemetery next to his late wife, Jean Frances Bovio, who predeceased him in 1999. John was involved in construction during his years of employment.
An area resident for the past 19 years, he loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He is survived by his son, John A. Bovio of Cornwallville, Town of Durham. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Richards Funeral Home, 383 Bross St., Cairo, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m.

WWII Veteran
CATSKILL--- Stephen Paul Desco, 82, of 102 North Allen St. in Catskill, died Thursday, April 6, 2006 at the Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center Hospital in Albany.
He was born July 5, 1923 in Catskill, the son of the late Nicholas and Josephine (Gentile) Desco.
Stephen was a devoted lifelong communicant at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Catskill and attended St. Patrick’s Academy.
He enlisted in the United States Navy on October 20, 1942 and was a veteran of WWII.
While in the Navy, Stephen attended and completed service schools at Mare Island, California as a welding specialist and Diving School at Pier 88 in New York City.
He reported aboard the USS Gear ARS 34 as a salvage diver and was stationed in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Stephen participated in the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa Gunto.
He witnessed the first attempt at raising the American flag on Iwo Jima Island.
Other campaigns of the Asiatic-Pacific area were Kwajalein, Magoro Attols, Marshall Island, Mariannas, Guam and Tinian during 1944. In 1945, Stephen participated in the invasions of Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, Okinawa, Kerama, Retto and Ryukus Islands.
After WWII, Stephen was employed as a General Mason Foreman by the Amalgamated Brick Layers Local in Albany. He worked at various locales including the Albany South End Projects that included the Albany Twin Towers, the Egg and SUNY Albany campuses. Stephen also worked at all the local cement plants over the years prior to his retirement in 1985.
Mr. Desco was a member and Past-Commander of the Sullivan-Teator VFW Post 770 in Catskill. He was an avid golfer and a long-time member of the Catskill Gold Club; member and Past-Exalted Ruler at the Catskill Elks Lodge 1341 BPOE; member of St. Patrick’s Knights of Columbus and member of the American Legion Honeyford Memorial Post 110 in Catskill.
Mr. Desco is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Bravo Desco of Catskill; two daughters, Donna Desco Decker of Walkill, Barbara Desco Nayler of Catskill; one sister, Lucille Bruck of Kingston; two sons-in-law, Dean Decker of Walkill and Donald Nayer of Catskill; two grandsons, David B. Smith of Catskill, Brendan P. Decker of Virginia; a daughter-in-law, Cressa Mueller Smith of Catskill; three great-grandchildren, Logan Smith, Emily Smith Carly Smith, all of Catskill; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Stephen was predeceased by his siblings, Carmella Desco Gasbarro, Louise Desco Patrianni, Estella Desco Donnelly, Theresa Desco Sottile, Anna Desco MaGinn, Peter Desco, Nicholas Desco, Jr., Louis Desco, Joseph Desco, Salvatore Desco, Louis John Desco and William Desco.

CAIRO--- George H. Wetterer, Sr., 90, of 90 Oak Street in Cairo, died suddenly at his residence on April 6, 2006.
He was born in Brooklyn on July 4, 1915 and was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Balfe) Wetterer.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Cairo, with Monsignor Edward Wetterer of St. Michael’s Church in New York City the Celebrant.
Interment will follow in the family plot of the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Catskill with full military honors, next to his late wife, Irene Rose Wetterer, who predeceased him on July 27, 1972.
George has been an area resident since 1969 and was a Communicant of the Sacred Heart Church in Cairo.
During World War II, He served his country with the United States Coast Guard.
He retired as a Correctional Officer for New York City where he was employed at the Brooklyn House of Detention.
He loved talking to people and could always be seen in front of The Great American in Cairo extending his good wishes of the day to everyone.
He is survived by his son, George Wetterer, Jr., of Cairo; two local nieces, Mary Esposito and Carole Miller; and many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by nine brother and sisters.

MEDUSA--- Ernest F. Bell, 89, of Medusa, Albany County, died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
Born Sept. 16, 1916 in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Frank and Estella Stone Bell.
Mr. Bell had been a resident of the Baptist Rehabilitation & Health Center in Glenville for the past several years.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years during World War II.
Mr. Bell retired from the Albany County Department of Public Works where he was employed for more than 25 years. During many of those years, he drove large snowplows.
He enjoyed cleaning his trucks and cars.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David and Susan Bell of Greenville; a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Wayne Mart of Glenville; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Minnie Z. Brink Bell on April 8, 2004; a son, Kenneth E. Bell; and two brothers, Charles and Harvey Bell.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

PALENVILLE--- Floyd B. Van Benschoten, 59, of 560 Route 32A, Palenville, died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, after suffering a heart attack.
Born Dec. 11, 1946 in Hudson, he was the son of Carroll and Pearl Brackett Van Benschoten.
Mr. Van Benschoten was employed as a truck driver with Hilderbrandt Trucking Co. for many years as well as other trucking companies.
He enjoyed Indian crafts, hunting, fishing, the outdoors and also computers.
In addition to his mother, who lives in Columbiaville, survivors include his wife of 27 years, Paula Lauster Van Benschoten; four daughters, Terry, Loree, Sally and Shelly Van Benschoten, all of Hudson; a brother, Ronald, of Hudson; a sister, Carol Briggs, of Columbiaville; and seven grandchildren.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Richards Funeral Home, 383 Bross St., Cairo.
Funeral services will be held 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

ALBANY--- Roland A. Savage, 71, died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany after a long illness.
Born May 17, 1934 in the Bronx, he was the son of the late Ronald A. and Catherine Savage.
Mr. Savage served in the United States Navy during 1953.
He served as a village trustee of Freeport, Long Island, and honoree fire and police commissioner of Freeport.
Mr. Savage retired with his family to the Catskill Mountains in 2001. During his retirement, he enjoyed his family, fishing and volunteering his services to his community on the Board of Elections.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Theresa, whom he married Oct. 12, 1957 in Ascension Parish in Manhattan; a daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Robert Kottwitz of Haines Falls; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roland Thomas and Diane of Fairfield, Conn. and John Paul and Jeanine of New Hyde Park; three brothers, David, Steve and Terrance; one sister, Susan Dunn; three grandchildren, James, Michael and Jessica Kottwitz; his aunt and godmother, Alys Krisman; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Lambert Savage and Andrew Savage; and a sister, JoAnne Savage.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, 7742 Main St., Hunter.
Services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Haines Falls, with the Rev. Anthony Motta officiating.
Interment will be at the chapel in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, Westchester County.

LEEDS--- Robert F. Stott, 68, of Leeds, died Monday, April 10, 2006, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson where he had been a patient since March 31.
Born May 31, 1937 in Catskill, he was the son of the late Winfred and Eunice Irene Davis Stott.
Mr. Stott was a graduate of Catskill High School.
He was employed as a draftsman engineer at IBM in Kingston for 35 years, retiring in 1990.
Mr. Stott was a former active member of the Catskill Glee Club, IBM Quarter Century Club, Greene County Historical Society and the Catskill United Methodist Church.
His scale models of the Cauterskill Hotel, Prospect Hotel and Catskill Mountain House are on exhibit at the Bronck House Museum in Coxsackie.
He also enjoyed playing tennis, softball and bowling.
Survivors include his wife, the former Ruth Bray, whom he married on Nov. 30, 1969; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Winfred Stott of Wake Forest, N.C. and Theodore Curtis and Miranda Stott of Lynchburg, Va.; a sister, Dollie Johnson of Coxsackie; four nieces, Eunice Thein of Rochester, Susan Moore of Massachusetts, Joy Pruiksma of Coxsackie and Jill Peters of Coxsackie; two nephews, David DeLuca of Coxsackie and Albert DeLuca of Greenville; and many great-nieces and nephews.

ATHENS--- Astrid M. Suuban, 89, of Athens, died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck.
Born March 16, 1917 in Sweden, she was the daughter of the late Kristina Sand and Lars Jonson.
She was married Sept. 3, 1944 in the Bronx to Arnold Suuban who died Nov. 2, 1979.
Mrs. Suuban was a teacher’s assistant at Alexander Burger Junior High School #139 in New York City, retiring in 1985.
A resident of Athens since 1999, she moved here from Middle Island, Long Island.
Mrs. Suuban was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in the Bronx, the Order of the VASA Scandinavian Women and a longtime member and former treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Middle Island Fire Company.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Richard Greene of Athens; a son and daughter-in-law, Arnold and Valerie Suuban of Athens; four grandchildren, Richard and Chris Merando and William and Chris Merando; Bridgette Suuban and Denise Suuban; two great-grandchildren, Kiersten Vignera and Mary Elizabeth Merando; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Judith Hodgens and Edith Johnson; and a brother, Hilding Jonson.

MICHAEL T. VOTTA

COXSACKIE---Michael T. Votta, 82, died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born March 18, 1924 in Coxsackie, he was the son of the late Michael Votta and Mary Nocera Votta.
Mr. Votta served as a Private First Class of the United States Marines from January 1943 until September 1945. He was honorably discharged and awarded the Purple Heart Medal of Honor for his actions during combat in Iwo Jima.
He was recognized by the New York State Thruway Authority for his 28 years of service (1955-1983).
As a member of Coxsackie Hose Company No. 3, Mr. Votta was recognized as a lifetime member for his 64 years of faithful service and contributions. He was also a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church serving in various volunteer capacities.

She was born in New York City on May 31, 1918, the daughter of the late Frederick and Marie (Holmes) Deckert.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Capt. Mel Rash of Teaneck, N.J. and her husband, Harry Krennrich, of Purling.
Surviving are her daughter, Cecile Lindstrom and her husband, Donald, of Ticonderoga; a son, Edward Rash and his wife, Suzanne, of Westerlo; her grandchildren, Bonnie Carr and her husband, Kevin, of Virginia, Tammy Neufeld and her husband, Alan, of Clifton Park, Donald Lindstrom and his wife, Mikki, of North Carolina, Andy Lindstrom and his wife, Claudia, of Florida, Jennifer Wing and her husband, Steve, of Guilderland; and her great-grandchildren, Samantha Bemis, Madison Bemis, Dakota Lindstrom and Chloe Carr.

He was born in Catskill on Nov. 18, 1951, son of the late Frederick and Helen (Lawyer) Mack.
Alan was a graduate of Cairo-Durham Central High School.
He was a Corrections Officer at the Hudson Correctional Facility until his retirement. He was a Life Member of the East Durham Vol. Fire Co., Charter Member of the Town of Durham Rescue Squad, former member of the Masonic Lodge, former Town Assessor for the Town of Durham, Caretaker and Treasurer of the Winston Cemetery and Bartender at the Shamrock House.
Besides his parents, Alan was predeceased by a daughter, Becky Mack.
Surviving are his wife, Linda (Bates) Mack of East Durham; a daughter, Kimberly Jackson and her husband, Shawn, of East Durham; a son, Adam Mack of East Durham; a grandson, Tyler Frederick Jackson of East Durham; a brother, Jeff Mack and his wife, Cindy, of Clifton Park; a sister, Kristine Mirocco and her husband, Frank, of Athens.

CATSKILL--- Stanley Aretas Smith, 85, of 27 Landon Ave., Catskill, died Thursday, April 13, at home, after a short illness.
He was born June 16, 1920, in Catskill, the son of the late Aretas Saxe Smith and Olive Smith.
Stanley served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He served aboard the USS Warrington and survived her sinking during a hurricane in the Bermuda Triangle in 1944. Smith owned and operated Aretas S. Smith and Sons, Inc. of Catskill, prior to his retirement. He was a life member of Catskill Hose Company No. 1, and was a member of Catskill Masonic Lodge. Stanley was an avid camper, hunter, and fisherman. He was always involved in building projects over the years. He crafted two handmade boats, a pop-up camper, two log cabins and was a meticulous woodworker around his house and camps.
Smith is survived by a son, Ronald S. Smith and wife, Deborah, of Catskill; two grandchildren, Quinton Smith of Lafayette and Brooke Smith of Catskill and several cousins and a nephew.
Smith was predeceased by his wife, Mabel Rush Smith, on Dec. 23, 2001, and a brother, Wilbur Smith.

Nancy was a seamstress. She attended the New York City Fashion and Design Trade School in Manhattan. She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Catskill and was a past member of Our Lady of Sorrows Sodality of Manhattan, as well as COARC in Catskill.
Nancy was predeceased by a brother, Anthony Amato, and a nephew, Anthony Amato.
Ms. Amato is survived by a sister, Virginia Cuomo of Catskill, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was born Jan. 1, 1913 in Brooklyn and moved to Sebastian 25 years ago from Valley Stream.
Mr. Baumann was a firefighter with the NYC Fire Department for 25 years. He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Florida, where he was an usher.
His other memberships included the Alzheimer/Parkinson Support Group of Indian River County, the Indian River County Council on Aging, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Knights of Columbus.

EAST DURHAM---George E. Williams, Jr., 85, of East Durham, died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
Born July 6, 1920 in East Durham, he was the son of the late George E. and Pearl Winans Williams, Sr.
Mr. Williams served in the United States Army Engineers in World War II on Attu, a small island at the tip of the Aleutian Islands off the coast of Alaska.
He worked as a superintendent for Callahan Industries in South Bethlehem until his retirement.
Mr. Williams enjoyed music. He played with the Catskill Mountain Hot Shots for almost 50 years.
He was a member of IUOE Local 106 for more than 50 years, a member of the Greenville Norton Hill United Methodist Church, a life member and past fire chief of the East Durham Volunteer Fire Department and member of the Durham Valley Post No. 1416 for more than 50 years.

CAIRO--- Claire Fisher, 84, of Silver Spur Road, Cairo, died Friday, April 14, 2006, at home.
She was born Aug. 21, 1923 in Mount Vernon, Westchester County, where she lived throughout her childhood.
She spent many summers with relatives who owned boarding houses in Cairo.
After graduating from Davis High School, in Mount Vernon, Mrs. Fisher attended Westchester School of Nursing in Valhalla, Westchester County, where she earned her nursing degree.
After graduation, Mrs. Fisher volunteered for the Army Nurse Corps and served as a 2nd Lieutenant through the end of World War II. After the war, she moved to Cairo to live with her parents.
She met and married John Fisher, Jr. Her and her husband built their home on Silver Spur Road in 1968, where they lived with their six children.
Mrs. Fisher worked as a nurse for more than 40 years and was an avid gardener.
Survivors include her two daughters, Susan Howell of Virginia Beach, Va., and Claire Miller of Durham, N.C.; four sons, John Fisher III of Virginia Beach, David Fisher of Forest Hills, Queens County, Rob Fisher of East Durham and James Fisher of Corinth, Saratoga County; a sister, Mina Englemann of Cairo; two brothers, Fred Metzler of Big Pine, Fla., and Bill Metzler of Cairo; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her husband.

SAUGERTIES--- Walter J. Greczynski, 83, of Brinnier Lane, died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at the Benedictine Hospital, Kingston, after a brief illness.
Born March 29, 1923, in Kingston, he was the son of the late John and Anna Szechuik Greczynski.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Army where he was awarded the American Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
A Saugerties area resident since 1974, Mr. Greczynski previously resided in Woodhaven, Queens, where he was employed for more than 25 years as a New York City Police Officer, retiring in 1974.
He was a former parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle in Woodhaven. He was a member of the Saugerties American Legion Post #72, of the New York City Police Benevolent and the Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #2574.
Survivors include one daughter, Ellen A. Scherer of Saugerties; one son, Alan J. Greczynski of Saugerties; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Regina Brueckner, in December 1997; and his sister, Stephanie Bereski.

GREENVILLE---Audrey Anne (Paterno) Lee, 58, of South Westerlo, a strong and special woman, passed away on April 13, 2006, after a long and hard battle with breast cancer.
She was at home, surrounded by her family and friends, during the last days of her life.
She was the owner of Stillmeadow Realty and her best friend and partner, Tad Palka, will carry on this successful business started in 1992.
Audrey was a Yankee fan and often attended Yankee games. She also liked to go to garage sales and tend her garden in her spare time.
Audrey was born and raised in the Bronx and moved to upstate New York in 1977. She was the daughter of the late John James and Anna Paterno.
She leaves behind her companion and caretaker through her battle, Tad Palka; son, Raymond Cushin; son and daughter-in-law, John and Michelle Cushin; and granddaughter, Allie Cushin.
She will be dearly missed by her friends and family.

Born Feb. 28, 1940 in Queens, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Eberle) Verzyl.
Sandra worked for the Greene County Memorial Hospital and for the New York State Office of General Services in Albany before moving to the St. Lawrence Cement Company in Smith’s Landing where she worked from 1996 until recently.
Sandra was an avid reader and supporter of the arts. She was a socially and politically aware person who enjoyed keeping up on current affairs. She was a member of the Cementon Sportsman’s Club in Smith’s Landing. She was also a longtime financial supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
She was proud of her family and loved her children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick A. Nezich, who died in 1985.
Mrs. Nezich is survived by a son, Scott Nezich, and his wife, Carrol, of Catskill; a daughter, Eve-Marie Nezich Ceryanek, and her husband, Philip, of Hubbardston, Mass.; a sister, Linda Kinch, and her husband, Keith, of Catskill; two grandchildren, Kyra Marie Ceryanek and John Patrick Ceryanek of Hubbardston, Mass.

SAUGERTIES--- John David “Jack” Warfel, 78, of Church Street and Clinton, died Monday, April 17, 2006, at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Utica, after a long illness.
Born Sept. 16, 1927 in Drifton, Pa., he was the son of the late Eugene and Louise Eckert Warfel.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1954, he graduated with a degree in engineering from Pennsylvania State University’s College of Mineral Industries. For 37 years until his retirement, he was a plant engineer for the Lehigh Portland Cement Company in Alsen.
John was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Snow Roman Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a member and coordinator of the Community of God’s Love Prayer Group at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Kingston.
He was active with the Saugerties Little League Farm Teams and the Cub Scouts. He was also a member of the Saugerties PTA and served as its president for two years.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Dorothy Diemer; five sons, Eugene, John, Jr., and Richard Warfel, all of Block Island, R.I., Christopher Warfel of Block Island, and Dr. Mark Warfel of Clinton; two daughters, Eleanor Miller of West Monroe and Mari O’Keefe of Leeds; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by two sisters, Marion Ludwig and Elizabeth Krone; and one brother, George Warfel.

POMPANO BEACH, Fla.--- Martha “Dorothy” Miller, 72, formerly of Catskill and Windham, died in Pompano Beach, Fla., on Easter morning after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Mrs. Miller was born in Queens, NY, on Feb. 25, 1934. One of seven children, she grew up in Queens and moved with her family to Catskill in 1947. She raised her three children in Windham.
Since 1967, Dorothy and her husband, Gerald Miller, who survives her, have lived in Pompano Beach. She is also survived by her children, Dorothy Hoyt Cahorshak, and her husband, John, Stephen Hoyt and his wife, Robin, her son, Peter Hoyt and her grandchild, Erin, all of whom reside in Florida; her sister, Vera Lutz, who lives in Boca Raton with her husband, William; her brother, Edward Keicher and his wife, Betty, and her sister, Barbara Macomber of Blackshear, Ga.

She is survived by a nephew, Christopher Brown; several cousins in London, England; and many dear friends.

GREENVILLE--- Kent Ian Weisenburn, 54, died suddenly on April 17, 2006 at his home in Port Orange, Fla.
He was born in Catskill on Jan. 30, 1952, son of Gerald R. Weisenburn (U.S. Marines) of South Bethlehem and the late Adelaide B. Coburn.
Kent grew up in South Bethlehem, attended Ravena Central School, and was a veteran serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He was a retired Penn Central/Conrail Railroad employee.
Surviving are his daughters, Jamie Lee Allbee (U.S. Navy) of Tennessee, April Yvone Pope of Tennessee, Allannah Kay Weisenburn of Florida; six grandchildren; his father, Gerald R. Weisenburn; his stepmother, Susan, of South Bethlehem; brother of Sharon Dillon (USAF) and her husband, David, of Florida; Roxanne Lindsey of Rensselaer; Gerald R. Weisenburn II (USN) of Coxsackie; a stepbrother, Richard Buckley (US Army) of Hannacroix; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Erik G. Weisenburn; a brother, Elwood (EG) Weisenburn (US Army); a stepbrother, Peter (PJ) Buckley (US Army); and a grandson.

He was dearly loved by his family and a friend to all who knew him.

WINDHAM--- Nellie R. Robinson, 94, of Cobleskill, died on Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at the Eden Park Nursing Home in Cobleskill.
She was born in East Jewett on July 3, 1911, daughter of the late Stanley and Esther (Cook) Garvey.
Nellie was a kitchen aide and cook until her retirement. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge 506 and the Farmer’s Grange, achieving a silver certificate. She was also a volunteer at the Albany Memorial Hospital.
Surviving are her two daughters, Barbara Gepfert and her husband, Henry of Cohoes and Joan Bombard and her husband, Thomas, of Esperance; three granddaughters, Danielle Bombard, Jody Bombard and Michelle Weigert and her husband, Mark, and one great-grandson, James Blake.
Nellie was predeceased by her husband, David Robinson, in 1962, a sister, Eunice Garvey Warfield and two brothers, Millard and Herbert Garvey.
Friends may call at the Decker Funeral Home, Main Street, Windham, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
A funeral service will be held Monday, April 24, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery.

COLUMBIA, Md.--- Raymond Bartlett, 92, recently of Forest Hills Estates in Leeds, died after a brief illness on Monday, April 17, 2006 at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, Md.
Raymond was born in South Paris, Maine, on June 19, 1913, the son of the late Phillip and Ethel (Conrad) Bartlett.
He grew up in Wethersfield and Hartford, CT.
Raymond served in the Field Artillery from 1928 to 1931 at Fort Hood, Texas; and again from 1932 to 1934 at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, where he also boxed as a welterweight.
He again served in the Army in 1945.
For many years, Raymond was an independent businessman, owning and operating, along with his wife, a restaurant and a series of motels, including the Lantern Motel in South Cairo.
He was a member of the Catskill United Methodist Church and the BPO Elks.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elnora S. Bartlett of Columbia, MD; four children, Robert A Stevens of Oakfield, John E. Howson of New Jersey, John H. Bartlett of Pennsylvania, Raymond V. Bartlett of Maryland; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Witzke Funeral Home in Columbia, Md., on April 22, 2006.

ATHENS--- William J. Borfitz, 73, of Schoharie Turnpike, Athens, died suddenly on April 21, 2006, at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson.
He was born in Whitestone on March 20, 1934, the son of the late William and Helen Borfitz, and son-in-law of Walter and Stephanie Ostrowski.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Theresa, of Athens; his sons, Walter and wife Lenee of California, William and wife, Josephine, of Tuckahoe, and Thomas and wife, Holly, of Athens.
William was a graduate of Xavier Military Academy of NYC and obtained his engineering degree at SUNY. When he retired, he was a consultant for the Boston Area Water Project.
He was also a Sgt. 1st Class for the United States Army, 107th Infantry, a member and treasurer of the Athens Seniors, as well as a member and maintenance committeeman of St. Patrick’s Church in Athens.
William loved to travel and enjoyed being with his grandsons, Alexander and Michael, during Little League Baseball games and other events.

Born Sept. 3, 1929 in the Bronx, he was the son of the late Henry F. and Adeline Dietz Eberhardt.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, a graduate of Iona College in New Rochelle, and President of Dynacool Manufacturing, Inc. in Saugerties.
He was a former member and past president of the Saugerties Rotary Club.
Survivors include his wife, with whom he recently celebrated his 53rd Wedding Anniversary, Marian McGrath; four sons, Henry F. “Hank” Eberhardt, Jr. of Valatie, Eric J. of Delmar, John G. of Minnesota, Thomas J. of Boston; 9 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Marion Eberhardt.

SAUGERTIES---Aribert Eberius, 79, of Hemlock Court, died Thursday, April 20, 2006, at the Northern Dutchess Hospital, Rhinebeck, after a brief illness.
Born March 27, 1927 in Magdeburg, Germany, he was the son of the late Albert and Elisabeth Schmidt Eberius.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Army where he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the American Theatre Ribbon.
He was a graduate of Pratt Institute, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and his Master’s Degree from Columbia University.
He was employed as a fine arts teacher at the Spring Valley Senior High School for over 30 years.
A Saugerties area resident since 1995, he previously resided in Washingtonville for many years.
He was a member of the New York State Teachers Association and the Classical Choral Society of Washingtonville.
Survivors include his wife, the former Sonia Nielsen, with whom he recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary; two daughters, Karen Fraleigh of Red Hook, and Jennifer Eberius of Catskill; a son, Eric Eberius of South Carolina; seven grandchildren, Peter, Kimberly, Steven, Marissa, Erica, Sarah and Nadya; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral procession will form at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., corner of John and Lafayette Streets; thence to the Saugerties Atonement Lutheran Church, on Market Street, where his funeral service will be conducted, by the Reverend Edward R. Born Aug. 29, 1906 in Saugerties, she was the daughter of the late Otis and Elizabeth Vedder Snyder Dewitt.
A lifetime area resident, she graduated from Saugerties High School in 1924.
She graduated from the New Paltz Normal School in 1927, and the State University of New York at New Paltz in 1957.
She taught school in Tivoli, Highland, Eastchester and New Rochelle.
She was a member of the Saugerties United Methodist Church, Queen Ulster Rebekah Lodge, SUNY New Paltz Foundation, the Klyne Esopus Museum, the Ulster County Retired Teachers Association and the New York State Retired Teachers Association.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Edwin Nolan in 1989.
Survivors include her daughter, Joan Zuckerman, with whom she resided; two grandchildren, Sara Arnell and her husband, Peter, of Katonah, and Faith Zuckerman of New York City; great-grandchildren, Lucy, Thomas and Lily Arnell; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also predeceased by a sister, Rowena Baxter.

She was born in Ashley Falls, Mass., Aug. 29, 1915, and was the daughter of the late Frank and Lena Zamboni La Fontana.
During Bettina’s days of employment, she was a medical receptionist at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Schabot, Hudson; two sisters, Maria MacNiel of Great Barrington, Vt., Clementine Fruett of Pittsfield, Mass.; three grandchildren, Timothy Propst, Daniel and Kristofer Klugo; and three great-grandchildren, Kacy and Jadie Klugo and Brady Post.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Carl, in 1975; a daughter, Mary Klugo; two brothers, Leo and John La Fontana; and a sister, Rose Holt.

CATSKILL--- John A. Rich, 76, of William Street, Catskill, died Monday, April 24, 2006, at the Eden Park Health Care Center in Catskill with his family by his side.
Born Sept. 2, 1929 in Athens, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mariella Porto Rich.
Mr. Rich graduated from St. Patrick’s Academy in Catskill in 1947. He attended Siena College and graduated from Albany Business School with a degree in accounting. He was captain of the Albany Business College Basketball team and elected president of the college’s Varsity Club.
He served in the Armed Forces of the United States National Guard as a 2nd Lieutenant.
On February 24, 1952, he married Lorraine Haines Rich, who predeceased him on Jan. 9, 1998.
Mr. Rich was an accountant with A. Colarusso & Sons, Inc. until his retirement in 2004. He also worked for a number of years at Grumman Olsen Industries in Athens, moving with the company to Mayfield, Pa. in the mid 1970’s, and was co-owner of Salvino-Rich Fuels, Inc. in Athens. He worked as an office and accounting manager for Amos Post, Inc. for 14 years, where he also served as corporate secretary and a member of the board of directors.
Long active in charitable and civic programs in the community, he was a communicant at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Catskill; member and chairman of the Tournament Committee for the Catskill Golf Club; former member of the Knights of Columbus; past president of the Boy’s Club of Catskill and served on the board of directors; was president of the St. Patrick’s Alumni Association; and was a Village of Catskill trustee.
An active sportsman and community member, Mr. Rich coached Boy’s Club of Catskill Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball for a number of years. He also coached St. Patrick’s Junior Varsity Basketball and played semi-professional baseball and basketball.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, John A. Rich, Jr., of Windham, Michael J. and Mary Ann Rich of Highland and Anthony S. and Theresa Rich II of Catskill; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Clara and William Burger of Catskill and Rose and Albert Gregory of Catskill; nine grandchildren, Addison and Alexander Rich of Toronto, USMC PFC Anthony Rich (currently in Iraq), Daniel, Steven, Jacob, Nathan and Lorraine Rich, all of Catskill, and Jason C. Thurston of Poughkeepsie; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

ATHENS--- Marilyn Iona Ferro, 73, of 8624 Route 9W, Athens, died Thursday, April 27, 2006, at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, following a lengthy illness. She was born July 12, 1932 in Coxsackie, the daughter of the late Clarence and Murial (Gritmon) Colwell.
Marilyn was a graduate of Coxsackie High School, and Albany Business College. She was an employee of Gifford and Wood in Hudson. She was later employed as a receptionist, secretary and bookkeeper for Ferro Scrap Iron and Metal, Inc. of Catskill for over 40 years.
She has been the loving devoted wife of Salvator Ferro of Kingston for the past 58 years. She loved flowers, nature and the great outdoors and had enjoyed ceramics as a hobby. Mrs. Ferro was active in the American Legion Drum Corps during the 1960’s.
Mrs. Ferro is also survived by six children, Nicholas Ferro and wife, Donna, of Catskill, Yvonne Logosso and husband, Keith, of Catskill, Michael Ferro and wife, Diane, of Catskill, Terry Yannone of Virginia, Diana Ferro of Athens, Anthony Ferro of Athens and his fiancée, Tina Benjamin of Catskill; a sister, Donna Ames and husband, Earl, of West Coxsackie; two brothers, Leroy Colwell and wife, Marylin, of Athens, Clancy Colwell and wife, Ann, of North Carolina; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

GREENVILLE--- Denise D. (VanIderstine) Irizarry-Barkley, 50, of Greenville, died Thursday, April 27, 2006, at her home, surrounded by her family, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Albany on Jan. 26, 1956, the daughter of the late Richard and Bernice (Hotaling) VanIderstine.
Denise owned and operated Cleanique Cleaning Service from 1997 until she died.
Besides her parents, Denise was predeceased by a brother, Darrin VanIderstine.
She is survived by her husband of two years, John Barkley, of Greenville. She was the loving mother of Steven Irizarry and his wife, Jennifer, of Hudson and Andrea Irizarry-Brown and her husband, Michael Brown, of Albany; the sister of Richard VanIderstine, Jr. and his wife, Linda, Rise VanIderstine, Garry VanIderstine, Sharon VanIderstine, Roger VanIderstine, Willie VanIderstine and his wife, Renee, and Kim Gewer; the aunt of Richard III and his wife, Lisa, Jeffery and his wife, Tina, Linda, Alicia and Autumn VanIderstine, and Rachel, Erica Hauser and Becky; the great-aunt of Richard IV, Samantha, Stephanie and Megan; the daughter-in-law of Jack and Pat Barkley. Many cousins and dear friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Homes, Inc., 4898 Route 81, Greenville, on Sunday, April 30, 2006 at 4 p.m.
Friends may call at the funeral home prior to service from 1 to 4 p.m.
As to Denise’s wishes, she will be cremated at the Albany Rural Cemetery and then interred in the Onesquethaw Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

COXSACKIE--- Wayne K. King, 64, of 75 Van Dyke St., Coxsackie, died April 28, 2006, at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany, after a long illness.
He was born in the Bronx on Jan. 14, 1942, and was the son of the late Kendrick and Barbara (Murphy) King.
Funeral services will take place Wednesday, 11 a.m., at the W.C. Brady’s Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie, with the Rev. Retta Lykens officiating.
Interment will follow in the family plot of St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Ravena.
Wayne loved the outdoors and hunting. Prior to his illness, he was employed by Occupations, Inc. in Ravena.
He is survived by his wife, Diane (Rieck) King of Coxsackie; three sons, Wayne, Jr. of Florida, and Christopher and Edward, both of Michigan; a stepson, Alexander Maurer, Jr. of Coxsackie; a stepdaughter, Wendy Proper of South Cairo; four brothers, Neil, Clayton, Gary and Dana; two sisters, Myriol Beausigneur and Diane Keyes; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by two half-brothers, Kenneth and Donald; and a sister, Carole Fertile.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday, 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
