Born in Italy

CATSKILL – Maria C. Casaregola, 96, of Catskill, died Friday evening, March 30, 2001, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Born Feb 22, 1905, in Isernia, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Cosmao and Michela (DiTore) Lombardozzi.

Mrs. Casaregola was a communicant at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Catskill. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Rosary-Altar Society and Mother’s Club.

Survivors include two sons, Erasmo Casaregola and Cosmo Casaregola, both of Catskill; a daughter, Carmela Sencabaugh of Catskill; two sisters, Julia Casaregola of Catskill and Ida Lombardozzi of Italy; a brother Gaetano Lombardozzi of Italy; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Casaregola was predeceased by her husband, Vincent J. Casaregola on Jan. 21, 1989; a son, Anthony M. Casaregola on March 24, 2001; and brother, Enrico Lombardozzi.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Services will be conducted 9 a.m. Tuesday from the funeral home, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Bridge Street, Catskill. Pastor John J. Murphy will officiate.

Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Catskill.

Roy Lewis
Retired film processor

GREENVILLE – Roy Lewis, 88, of Greenville, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Born May 1, 1912, in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Albert Lewis and Jenny (Pendergast) Lewis.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a retired film processor for the federal government.

Survivors include two nieces, Joan Schmidt of Leeds and Carol Steffen of Port Jefferson.

Mr. Lewis was predeceased by his wife Ruth (Mahar) Lewis, two brothers John Bluxome and Albert Lewis, and sister Dorothy Stewart.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.

Calling hours will be noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service.

Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Catskill.

Charles Rajsky
Retired real estate broker.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charles Rajsky, 82, of Tuna Drive, died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Loris Community Hospital.

He was born Nov. 21, 1918, in Long Island.

He spent most of his adult life in West Coxsackie, where he retired as a real estate broker. He and his wife retired to the Calabash area in 1983.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Katherine; two daughters, Nancy Steed of New York City and Carol Roberts of Fairport; a son, Robert Rajsky of Elmira; five grandsons, Evin Steed, Seth Steed, Harold Steed, Jairus Steed and Steven Roberts; two granddaughters, Kristen Rajsky and Karen Rajsky; and a niece, Jane Heakel of Mesa, Ariz.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

East Coast Cremation and Funeral Services of Sunset Beach, N.C. is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Charles J. Repka
Services Thursday in Greenport

CAIRO – Memorial services for Charles J. Repka of Great Barrington, Mass., will take place 7 p.m.  Thursday at the Valenti & Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. The Rev. Robert Johnson of the Trinity Methodist Church of Hudson will officiate.

Mr. Repka is a retired comptroller for the State of New York. He was born in Czechoslovakia on Nov. 14, 1905. Survivors include a son, Jack C. Repka of Chatham Center, four, grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Freda L. Theiss

GREENVILLE – Freda L. Theiss, 63, of Greenville, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.

Mrs. Theiss was born in Albany on March 11, 1938, daughter of the late James A. Dutton and Marjorie E. (Flagler) Dutton.

She was a graduate of Berne Knox Central School and had been employed at Main Care Energy in Albany as a billing clerk. She was a member of the Westerlo Reformed Church, a life member of the Westerlo Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Albany County Volunteer Fire Co. Auxiliary and was an associate member of the Greene County Volunteer Fire Co. Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Philip Theiss; four daughters, Deborah Mackey of Westerlo, Betty Seris of Middletown, R.I.,  Phyllis Magee of Greenville and Dawn LePage of Manchester, Conn., two sisters, Marie Tucker of Loudonville and Charlene Teter of Preston Hollow; a brother, Clifton Dutton of Westerlo; and nine grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a granddaughter.

Calling hours will be 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be later in the spring at the Brookside Cemetery, Preston Hollow.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Theiss’ name to the American Cancer Society.

Judith K. Rivenburg
Oak Hill Resident

GREENVILLE – Judith K. Rivenburg, 53, of Oak Hill, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Born June 24, 1947, in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Hayward Rivenburg and Gladys (Haskins) Rivenburg.

She was a life-long member or the Durham-Oak Hill area.

Ms. Rivenburg was a member of the Susquehanna United Methodist Church.

Survivors include several cousins and a dear friend, Colleen Hulbert.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 6, at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.

Services will be 4 p.m. Friday, April 6, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the spring in the Potter Hollow Cemetery.

Teresa M. Arch
Retired licensed practical nurse

GREENVILLE – Teresa M. Arch, 66, of Cairo, died suddenly on April 3, 2001, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident in Cairo.

She was born on April 26, 1934, daughter of the late William Kalivoda and Mary Kalivoda.

She was a retired licensed practical nurse having worked last at the Stamford Community Hospital in Stamford.

Survivors include her husband, John Arch; a daughter, Veronica Kosich of Catskill; two sons, Christopher Arch of Monroe and Kim Arch of Stamford; three grandchildren; a sister, Yolanda Cerezo of Florida; and a brother, John Kalivoda of New Jersey.

Services will be Saturday 2 p.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville. 

Friends may call at the funeral home noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the services. Cremation will be at the Albany Rural Cemetery.

George F. Derbyshire
Retired Saugerties police officer

SAUGERTIES – George F. Derbyshire, 69, of Manorville Road, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at the Benedictine Hospital, Kingston, following a long illness.

Born Dec. 5, 1931, in Suffern, he was the son of the late George Derbyshire and Della Stuart Derbyshire.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the Korean War. 

An area resident for many years, he was a Village of Saugerties police officer for 24 years, retiring in 1989. He was a police officer for the Town of Saugerties Police Department.

He was a member of the Saugerties Police Benevolent Association and a member of the Saugerties Fire Department.  He was a life member of C.A. Lynch Hose Co., the Saugerties Exempts Firemen’s Association, a life member of the Saugerties Fish and Game Club, a member of the Saugerties Landowners Association and a former member of Ulster Lodge No. 193 F & AM. He was an avid hunter and a life member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife, the former Janice Lasher; a brother, John Derbyshire of Katsbaan; a sister, Dela Lomoriello of Leeds; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette St. with Pastor William Sacher of the Blue Mountain Church officiating

Interment with military honors by the Saugerties American Legion Post No. 72 will be at the Mountain View Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Ulster County Hospice.

GREENVILLE – Judith K. Rivenburg, 53, of Oak Hill, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

James G. Waldron

COXSACKIE – James G. Waldron, 73, of Potic Creek Road, Earlton, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Albany Medical Center.

He was born in Catskill on Aug. 21, 1927, the son of the late Stanley Waldron and Alice (Burlett) Waldron.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Waldron was employed by the Ulster House and the Athens Iron Foundry. He was a member of the Earlton Fish and Game Club, and also loved to make birdhouses.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille (Jolly) Waldron; three sons, David Waldron, Michael Waldron and Stanley Waldron; two daughters, Tina Waldron and Karen Waldron; a brother, Ralph Van Alstyne; a sister, Trudy Harrison; and several grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley Waldron and Eugene Van Alstyne, and a sister, Marjorie Hillcross.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the W.C. Brady’s Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie. A Service will take place at 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Pastor Allan Conover of the First Reformed Church of West Coxsackie will officiate.

Interment will follow at a later date in the family plot of the Riverside Cemetery, Coxsackie.

Muriel E. Garrison
Catskill School District Treasurer

GREENVILLE – Muriel E. Garrison, 77, of Greenville, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.

Born Feb. 21, 1924, in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late T. Merritt Elliot and Ruth (Ingalls) Elliot.

She was employed at the Saugerties Central School as a senior account Clerk. She was the district treasurer for the Catskill Central School District from 1976 to retirement in 1985.

She married her late husband William E. Garrison on Aug. 3, 1946, and they moved to Greenville from Saugerties in 1972.

She was also a member for the Greenville-Norton Hill United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, William T. Garrison of Naples, Fla.; two daughters, Susan Semenchuk of Hyde Park and Janice Thorn of Rochester; 12 grandchildren; three sisters, Irene William of East Durham, Elizabeth McAneny of Norton Hill and Clarice Adamson of Conway, S.C.; three brothers, Adrian Elliott of Mechanicsville, VA., Robert Elliot of Wappingers Falls and Ronald Elliot of Charlotte, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Garrison was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Lynn Reinhard.

Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 route 81, Greenville.

Spring interment will be at the Greenville Cemetery.

Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Greenville-Norton Hill United Methodist Church in Norton Hill.

Florence ‘Chubby’ Ferber
Born in New York City

EARLTON – Florence “Chubby” Ferber, 76, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Mrs. Ferber, was born June 24, 1924, in Jamaica, Queens, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Larson.

She was an area resident since 1983 and was very active in the Greene County Women’s League Cancer Patient Aid. She was a member of the Catskill Elks Women No. 1341, the Purling Rod and Gun Club,  the Athens Riverton Senior Citizens and the Happy Homemakers.

Survivors include her husband, Charles H. Ferber, of Earlton; and a son, Buddy Ferber, of downstate.

There are no services.

Robert M. Elliott
Retired from IBM

WAPPINGERS FALLS – Robert M. Elliott, 67, of Wappingers Falls and formerly of Lexington, KY., died Tuesday, April 5, 2001, at his residence.

Born May 31, 1933, in Albany, he was the son of Theodore Merritt and Ruth Edna Ingalls Elliott.

He attended schools in Greenville, and served in the U.S. Air Force between 1952 and 1956.

Mr. Elliott was the resident of Wappingers Falls since 1964 and retired as from his employment as an advisory planner at IBM Corp., East Fishkill, in 1991 after 36 years of service.

Mr. Elliott was a member of St. Mary’s Church of Wappingers Falls, and the Wappingers Council No., 1646 of the Knights of Columbus, the IBM Quarter Century club, the Board of Directors of Jade Tree Cove, Myrtle Beach, and was a Little League Baseball coach in Wappingers Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn M. Thieault of Wappingers Falls; two daughters, Denise L. Elliott-Wood of Mahopac and Ruth M. Bottomley of Poughkeepsie; as son, Peter M. Elliott of Raleigh, N.C.; three sisters, Irene Williams of East-Durham; Clarice Adamson of Conway, S.C., and Betty McAneny of Norton Hill; two brothers, Adrian Elliott of Mechanicsville, Va., and Ronald Elliott of Matthews, N.C.; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Muriel Garrison.

Calling hours will be 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Straub Funeral Home, Inc., 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Church, Route 81, Greenville.

JEWETT – Nellie E. Whitcomb, 75, of Jewett, died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Born Jan. 16, 1926, in Jewett, she was the daughter of Harry Matthews and Mildred Finn Matthews.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald Whitcomb and Roger Earl Whitcomb, both of Jewett; and two daughters, Lorraine Whitcomb of Latham and Diana Schnettler of Theresa.

Calling hours will be 6 to 9 p.m., Sunday at the Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main St., Windham.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Jewett Presbyterian Church, Jewett.

Burial will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery, Jewett.

GREENPORT – Helen M. Gough, 58; of Route 66, Ghent, died suddenly, April 4, 2001, in the emergency room at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson after suffering a heart attack.

Born Dec. 13, 1943, in Patterson, she was the daughter of the late David Williams and Helen M. (Slocum) Williams.

Survivors include her husband, Harold S. Gough of Ghent; three sons, Larry Odell of Pennsylvania and Richard Rose and George Odell, both of Saugerties; four daughters, Donna Henderson of Freehold, Debra Bersch of Stottville, Sylvia Hicks of Florida and Susan LaMont of Hudson; two brothers, Earl Williams of California and James Williams of Florida; a sister, Marion Rivera of Patterson; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Mrs. Gough was predeceased by a son, Lawrence O’Dell, and a brother, Todd Williams.

Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, one hours before the funeral.

Funeral services will take place 11 a.m. Thursday at the Valenti and Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. Interment will follow in the family plot of the Mt. Pleasant Reformed Cemetery, Greenport.

CATSKILL – Teresa J. Conarpe, 95, former long time Catskill resident, died Saturday, April 7, 2001. at the home of her daughter, Caroline Garrett, in Rotterdam.

Born April 26, 1905, in Italy, she was the daughter of the late Michael Bondy and Pauline Bondy.

Formerly of West Main Street, Catskill, Mrs. Conarpe had been a Rotterdam resident since 1992.

Survivors include a son, John Conarpe of Kiskatom; four daughters, Caroline Garrett of Totterdam, Virginia Betke of Coxsackie, and Carmel Kappes of Schenectady; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Conarpe was predeceased by her husband, Alexander Conarpe; a daughter, Marie Crandall; and two grandsons, Michael Betke and Harold Crandell Jr.

Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. at the Traver and McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday from the funeral home followed by a 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Bridge Street, Catskill.

John Joseph Shaw, 78, of Windham died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at his residence. Arrangements under the direction of the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, Main Street, Hunter are incomplete.

Debra Ann Myer

COXSACKIE – Debra Anne Myer, 22, of Mansion Street, Coxsackie, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, April 10, 2001, after a sudden illness.

Born Aug. 8, 1978, in Catskill, she was the daughter of Richard Wescott Sr., and Lorraine Wescott of Climax, who both survive.

Ms. Myer was a graduate of Coxsackie-Athens Central High School, Class of 1996.

She was married in Brooklyn on Sept. 10, 1998, to Joseph Myer, who also survives.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ms. Myer is survived by her daughter, Alexis Marie Myer, three brothers, Richard R. Welch Jr. of Climax, Robert Welch Jr. of Climax and Christopher S. Welch Jr. of Athens; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and four nieces and nephews.

Ms. Myer was predeceased by her sister, Donna Welch.

Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Sopris Funeral Home Inc., Route 9W, Coxsackie.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Pastor Bill Hull of Grace Covenant Church will officiate.

Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Coxsackie.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Anthony Scandaliato, 60, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Purling, died Friday, April 6, 2001.

Survivors include his wife, Jo-Anne; a son, Charles Scandaliato; a daughter Lisa Scarpinati; and four grandchildren, Lacey and Katelyn Scandaliato and Joey and Alyssa Scarpinati.

World War II fighter pilot.

HUNTER – John J. Shaw, 78, of Windham died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at his residence.

Born in Brooklyn on Aug 19, 1923, he was the son of John J. Shaw and Tracey Shaw.

Mr. Shaw worked in real estate for Shaw Country Realty and as a food broker in Westchester County. He was a World War II fighter pilot in the Army Air Corps.

He was predeceased by his wife, Florence D. Shaw, on July 15, 1991.

Survivors include two sons, Steven Shaw of Yardley, Pa., and Scott Shaw of Saratoga Springs; two daughters, Susan Shaw and Carol Shaw both of Windham; eight grandchildren, Steven Shaw, Scott Shaw, Veronica Shaw, John Shaw, Stephanie Shaw, Amanda Shaw, Glen Reich and Zachary Reich; and one great-grandson, Ryan.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, Main St., Hunter.

Prayers of Christian Burial will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church in Windham with the Rev. Donald E. Doyle officiating. Internment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Ruth Beatrice Carson
Retired telephone operator

CATSKILL – Ruth Beatrice Carson, 90, died Friday, April 13, 2001 at Eden Park Nursing Home where she had been a resident since March 9, 2001.

Born July 20, 1910, in Catskill, she was the daughter of the later Herbert Decker and Bessie Hitchcock Decker.

She worked for New York Telephone as an operator for 43 years.

She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, Gloria Dei Episcopal Church and had been an avid golfer.

Survivors include a sister, Mildred Manning; three nieces, Joy Lounsbury, Nancy Ferretti and Roxanne Miller, two nephews, Edward Moore and Mark Moore; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Steve Carson, in 1960; and sisters, Anna Velie and Ida Moore.

Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Gloria Dei Episcopal Church in Palenville. The Rev. John e. Miller, rector, will officiate.

Burial will be in the Town of Catskill Cemetery in Catskill.

Martyna Jones
Former Coxsackie resident

BEDFORD, Tex., - Martyna Jones, 87, a former resident of Coxsackie, died Monday, April 9, 2001, in Bedford, Tex.

Mrs. Jones was born May 21, 1913, in Hannibal, Mo.

She graduated from Moberly High School in 1931 and Moberly Junior College in 1933.  She lived in Dallas, Texas during World War II where she met her husband. Arthur H. Jones. They married in 1946 and moved to New York State.

Mrs. Jones lived in Coxsackie for 30 years and worked as a legal secretary at Henke/Warren. After retirement, she moved to Albuquerque, N.M., where she lived with her husband until his death in 1991. Subsequently she moved to Trinity Terrace in Fort Worth and then to Bedford, Tex., for her final years.

She was a lifelong devoted Catholic and served her several parishes diligently as a member of the Altar Society and Rosary Society in Coxsackie, delivering communion to shut-ins in Albuquerque, N.M., and establishing the Monday Morning Communion Service at Trinity Terrace.

She was an active PTA member, Cub Scout Den Mother and the source of Kool-Aid and Popsicles for the entire neighborhood.

Survivors include her sons, Richard A. Jones of Roselle, N.J., and Michael S. Jones of Bedford, Texas; three grandchildren, Christiana, Danielle and Steven Jones, all of Bedford, Texas;  a brother J. Victor Spalding of Tulsa, Okal.; and several nieces and nephews.

The Rite of Christian Burial will be performed by the Church of St. Mary at Calvary Cemetery Chapel today in Tulsa, Okla.

CATSKILL – Louis Everett Jeune Sr., 75, of Tempe, Ariz., died Tuesday, April 10, 2001.

Born in Catskill, he was the son of Norman Jeune and Martha Jeune.

He graduated from Catskill High School in 1944, was a member of the Catskill Methodist Church, and a 50 year Mason with the Catskill Lodge.

He was Catskill’s town clerk in the 1960s.

Mr. Jeune was also a police officer and New York State trooper.

He moved to Arizona in 1969 where he loved the desert and Arizona heat.

Mr. Jeune graduated from Mesa Community College with honors in 1973.

He was employed at Motorola Inc., as a security manager before he retired after 19 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Rhoda Jeune; two sons, Louis Jeune Jr., and Leslie Jeune, four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Saturday at Newcomer’s Funeral Home in Scottsdale, Ariz.

CATSKILL – Evelyn Lawyer Bentley, 84, of 49 Wildwing Park, Catskill, died Friday, April 13, at Columbia-Greene Long Term Care in Catskill.

Born July 8, 1916, in East Durham, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Lawyer and Blanche (Tubbs) Lawyer.

Mrs. Bentley was a dental Hygienist for the Windham-Ashland-Jewett and Cairo-Durham school districts prior to her retirement.

She attended the First Reformed Church in Catskill and was a member of the New York State Teachers Association.

Survivors include her husband John Bentley of Catskill; two stepsons, John E. Bentley of St. Joseph, Mich. and Raymond M. Bentley Sr., of Claverack; a sister, Helen Mack of East Durham; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Bentley was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond Lawyer and Stanley Lawyer.

Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Traver and McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Pastor John Bowen of the First Reformed Church of Catskill will officiate.

WEST COXSACKIE – Fridrich J. Kollmann, 63, of Maple Tree Farm, 392 River Road, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at St. Peter’s Hospice, Albany, following a long illness.

Born Oct. 29, 1937, in New York City, he was the son of the late Hubert George and Frieda (Lindhorst) Kollmann.

Mr. Kollmann joined the Merchant Marines in New York City, following which he worked for Mobil Oil Co. on their tankers for many years.

He then spent four years in the Air Force at Dow Air Force Base, where he received the medal for good conduct. He joined the Bell Telephone Co. in New York City, as a systems technician in 1961, and was there for 30 years prior to his retirement from corporate headquarters of AT&T.

Mr. Kollmann was active with his wife as hot-family participant for the Fresh Air Fund. He was a member of the Awenke Yacht Club and enjoyed boating, fishing, and the horses and dogs he kept on his farm, which he spent years renovating for himself and his wife.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Bonnie-Lynn Sherin Kollmann, his brother, Herbert Kollmann of Westchester, and his cousin, Herman Kueng of Florida.

Mr Kollmann was predeceased by his son, Jason O. Kollmann, who died Feb. 1, 1995.

Her working years were spent in the restaurant business, most notable with her stepfather, Wilson P. Lester, in the Rockface Diner in Cairo.  Survivors include a brother, The Rev. Carey F. Worthinton and family of Laurel, Miss., a sister, Peggy Diane Pitcher and family of Johnstown, N.Y.; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard A. and Catherine V. Antonelli of Leeds; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and William G. Saxe of Acra; two grandsons, Kristopher and Sean Antonelli; and two step-grandchildren, Erica and Duane Davis. She was predeceased by her mother, Margaret (Worthington) Lester, her father, James Floyd Worthington, her stepfather, Wilson P. Lester, and her husband, Grant E. Davis. Most people will remember Barbara’s indomitable spirit, which manifested itself in everything she did. This spirit served her best in the last several years of her life when she overcame great physical obstacles to stay the independent woman she always was. Her humor and laughter put everything into perspective. This quality was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She worked hard, enjoyed life, and she will be missed. ELKA PARK – Wilber W. Peters, 83 of 37 Maple St., formerly of Brooklyn and Elka Park, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at his residence following and extended illness.

Born May 17, 1917, in Brooklyn, he was the son of Paul Peters and Louise (Scheidt) Peters.

Mr Peters was a U.S. Army veteran servicing during World War II in the European Theater. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local No. 807 and was retired from J.B. Williams Express Co.

Mr. Peters married Mary O’Connell on Feb. 12, 1941. She predeceased in on Jan 21, 1987.

Survivors include a son, William Peters of Addison; a brother, Elmer Peters of Ridgewood, Queens; two granddaughters, Amanda Wheeler of Syracuse and Melanie Peters of Addison; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, Mr. Peters was predeceased by a sister, Marion Wolf, and brothers, Theodore Peters and Paul Peters.

Mrs. White was a retired manager for White Bus Lines, where she worked for many years.

Besides her parents, Mrs. White was predeceased by her husband, Edward White.

Born Sept. 10, 1927, in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Gilbert White and Eileen White.

Mr. White moved to Greene County from Brooklyn in 1973. Prior to his retirement he was employed by the American Tree and Wreath Co. of Coxsackie. He was a member of the Teamsters Union.

He loved birds and was a member of the Museum of Natural History as well as the Audubon Society.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy D. (Scott) White of Catskill; a son, Lars White of Catskill; two daughters, Erin T. White-Alfred of Purling and Roselle of Brooklyn; a brother, Oscar White of Albany; a sister, Margaret Ciardiello of Catskill; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

CAIRO – William “Bill” Joseph Schneider, 69, of Purling, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001.

Born in Glendale, he was the son of the late William J. Schneider and Grace F. Schneider.

He attended college and received a Bachelor of Science degree at Seton Hall University. He operated Schall and Company with his father in Manhattan, a novelty company whose inventions included candy bar containers and culinary decorations whose clients included the Waldorf Astoria, Fanny Farmer and Woolworth & Co. He was a lifelong member of the Catskill Elks Lodge No. 1341.

With his parents, he transformed the Purling Palace, a nightclub where Jimmy Durante performed, into the Three Maples Resort in the early 1940’s. They expanded the business into the Purling Roller Rink soon after. He worked for the state Thruway Authority and relocated permanently to the area where he married Sally Schneider, formerly Sally Hyer, of Athens. He continued to operate the roller rink and Schall and Company from its Cairo location.

Survivors include his mother, Grace E. Schneider of Purling; several children, William J. Schneider, III, Sally Sharkey, James Schneider, M.D., Kathleen Schneider, Robert Schneider, M.D., Patricia Schneider, Esq., and Susan Schneider; four grandchildren; and many close in-laws, cousins and dear friends.

Myrtle I. (Clark) Stead-Alberti, 86, of Windham, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Born in Ashland, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Clark and Cora (Rogers) Clark.

Mrs. Stead-Alberti was married to Edward A. Stead from 1937 to 1949. She then Married Clyde Alberti from 1966 to 1999. She was a nutritionist at the Windham-Ashland-Jewett School for 19 years until her retirement.

She was a 60-year member of the Mountain Oasis Chapter of Eastern Star Lodge, No. 237.

She is predeceased by brothers Leo Clark and Curtis Clark; sisters Mable Martin, Iva Partridge and Frida Dunham; and husbands Edward A. Stead and Clyde Alberti,

Survivors include sons Thomas E. Stead of Castletown, Dennis C. Stead of California, James F. Stead of White Plains and Larry M .stead of Kingston; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

GREENVILLE -  Mary B. Lynch, 75, of Cornwallville, formerly of Riverdale, N.J., died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill.

Born Oct. 20, 1925, in Port Chester, she was the daughter of the late David English and Catherine (Burke) English.

Mrs. Lynch was a retired secretary and auditor at Sears and Roebuck in Oakland, N.J. She had been formerly employed by Lever Brothers.

Proud of her Irish heritage, she was a member of the Greenville Irish American Club and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. She was also a member of the VFW Tri-Town Memorial Post N. 7229 Ladies Auxiliary, the Durham Valley Post No. 1416, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Greenville and Durham Senior Citizens.

On March 31, she and her husband Thomas celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Survivors include her husband Thomas Lynch; two daughters, Maureen Struble of Butler, N.J. and Eileen Lynch of Foster City, Calif.; two grandchildren, Michelle VanLenten and Ann Amsen; and a sister, Lillian Newel of Hamburg, N.J.

Mrs. Lynch was predeceased by a son, Brian Lynch.

COXSACKIE – Bonny-Lou Schettini, 50 died Friday, April 20, 2001, at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany.

Born in Williston Park, she was the daughter of Frank Rabbitt and Ethel Rabbitt.

She graduated from SUNY New Paltz in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in education. She received her master’s degree in elementary education, specializing in reading, in 1974.

Mrs. Schettini taught first grad at Mt. Marion Elementary School in Saugerties Central School District from 1972-1982. She was a substitute teacher at Coxsackie Elementary School for kindergarten and 1st grade from 1983 until her death.

Mrs. Schettini’s family was her first priority. Her main interests were supporting her children in their school and sporting events. She was an avid tennis player and watcher, and enjoyed weekly tennis nights with friends dating back to 1985. She also enjoyed gardening and reading.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Westerlo.

Interment will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Riverside Cemetery.

DURHAM – Howard N. Teator, 69, of Old South Highway, Durham, died Thursday, April 19, 2001 at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany, after a long illness.

Born March 17, 1932, in Durham he was the son of the late Norman J. and Evelyn Atkinson Teator.

He was a lifetime resident of the Town of Durham.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

During his career, Mr. Teator was employed by Peckham Industries of Athens, and Calahan Industries and Miron Building Supplies, of Kingston.

Survivors include his wife, Stella P. Anton Teator of Durham; four sons, Gary Teator of Pleasant Valley, Mark Teator of Trinity, N.C., Darren Teator of Acra and Jay Teator of Round Top; a brother Raymond Teator of Durham; a sister Janet Armstrong of Cornwallville; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Ritter.

He was retired from the Coxsackie Correctional Facility.

Born March 15, 1917, in Latvia, he was the son of Karlis Zemnieks and Milda Zemnieks.

He was a Latvian veteran of World War II.

Mr. Brigis was a member of the Latvian-American Disabled Veterans Association and the Latvian Lutheran Church of New York.

Survivors include his wife, Janina Sarkis Brigis of Elka Park; a son, Alvis J. Brigis of Elka Park; a daughter, Iveta Jana Brigis of Elka Park; two brothers, Karlis Brigis of North Carolina and Tenis Brigis of German; and three sisters, Aina Zvaigzne of Argentina and Ilga Brige and Velta Zakovska, both of Latvia.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home on Main Street in Hunter.

Services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Laris Salins officiating.

Interment will follow in the Latvian Memorial Park Cemetery in Tannersville.

Robert S. Mitchell
Fisheries Department biologist

CATSKILL – Robert Samuel Mitchell, 52 of Catskill, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany following a long illness.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Kay F. Mitchell, and his mother, Evelyn L. Mitchell, both of Catskill; a daughter, Megan Elizabeth Mitchell of Catskill; a sister, Jean Mitchell Crowe of Holden, Mass.; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Everett Mitchell, in 1990.

He was born Jan. 19, 1949, in Ellenville, the son of Everett Mitchell and Evelyn (Weed) Mitchell.

He was a member o the Newcombe Fish and Game Club and a volunteer firefighter with the Hunter and Kiskatom fire departments. He was a graduate of Hunter-Tannersville Central High School and SUNY Delhi.

He married the former Kay F. Hartman on July 14, 1973, and was a biologist for the Fisheries Department of the Department of Environment Conservation in New Paltz Prior to his retirement in 1990.

Calling hours will be at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Richard H. Race

HUDSON – Richard H. race, 59, of Fairview Avenue, Hudson, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 26, 1926, in Hudson, he was the son of Mary (Abatta) Race and the late Harold Race.

Mr. Race was the general manager, treasurer and partner of Canape Brothers Inc. Chrysler, Plymouth, Jeep dealership.

A native of Hudson, Mr. Race began his automotive career in 1960 as a car washer at Canape.

In 1996 he was awarded the Time magazine Quality Dealer Award. He was one of 66 dealers among the 20, 500 nationwide to be nominated for the prestigious award, which recognizes new car dealers for performance in their dealerships and community performance.

He was a member of the the Hudson Elks Lodge No. 787, the Knights of Columbus, Columbia Golf and Country Club and the Hudson Lions Club. He also served as president of the New York State Automobile Dealers Association from 1994 – 1995.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Hudson, serving as trustee on the parish council board and a member of the building restoration committee.

Besides his mother, Mr. Race is survived by his wife, Carol (Canape) Race of Hudson; a brother, Henry C. Race of Hudson; two sisters, Marylou Washburn of Greenport and Elvina Esselstyh of Claverack; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Bates and Anderson Funeral Home in Hudson.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from the funeral home, then to St. Mary’s Church, where a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.

George F. Shove
Former town employee.

COXSACKIE – George F. Shove, 69, of 497 Roberts Hill Road, West Coxsackie, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany following a long illness.

Born Oct. 25, 1926, in Maybrook, he was the son of the late Frank B. Shove and Zorabelle (Henry) Shove.

Mr. Shove has been an area resident since 1974 and was a member of the of the Coxsackie V.F.W. and the New Baltimore American Legion.

He was employed by the Town of New Baltimore for 20 years. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mar E. (Roach) Shove of West Coxsackie; his stepmother, Mildred Shoove of West Coxsackie; two sons; Lloyd Shove of West Coxsackie and Frank Shove of Parachute, Colo.; a sister, Charlotte Hunter of Coxsackie; and many nieces, nephews , great-nieces and great-nephews.

Private cremation took place Friday at the Wildwyck Crematory in Kinston.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the W.C. Brady’s Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the New Baltimore First Responders.

Retired school teacher

WINDHAM – Patricia H. Davis, 60, of Windham, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Born Feb. 26, 1941, in Long Beach, N.Y., she was the daughter of Walter Hoskins and Marjorie (Timmins) Hoskins.

Mrs. Davis was a retired school teacher from the Windham-Ashland-Jewett School District. She was a coordinator for Meals on Wheels in Ashland, an active church member, choir member and financial secretary of Ashland United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, George C. Davis of Windham; a son, Robert Davis of Colonie; and grandson, Nicholas Davis.

Memorial services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Ashland United Methodist Church on Main Street in Ashland. Arrangements are under the direction of Decker Funeral Home in Windham.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ashland United Methodist Memorial Fund.

HUNTER – Elsie A. France, 92, of Haines Falls and Saugerties and Raleigh, N.C., died March 17, 2001, at the Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring in Jacksonville, Fla.

She was born Dec. 17, 1908.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kaaterskill United Methodist Church in Haines Falls. Officiating will be the Rev. Gregory Ferriss. Interment will follow at the Haines Falls Community Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home in Hunter.

CATSKILL – Alice Marie Broughton, 93, of Catskill, died Monday night, April 23, 2001, at Eden Park Nursing Home, where she had been a patient since May 7, 1999.

Born May 29, 1907, in Newburgh, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Conklin and Alice Conklin.

Survivors include a daughter, Eleanor Dayton; two sons, Arthur Broughton and George Broughton; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Broughton was predeceased by her husband, Fred Broughton.

Private cremation was conducted Wednesday at the Albany Rural Cemetery under the direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights.

COXSACKIE – Fern I. Guyot, 79, of 161 Winnie Ave., Ravena, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Albany Medical Center.

Born April 8, 1922, in New Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late William H. Guyot and Margaret (Deyo) Guyot.

Prior to her retirement she was employed as a seamstress for the Northeast Association fo the Blind at Albany.

Survivors include dear friends Vincent Korzon and Rosemary Korzon and family of Ravena.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the W.C. Brady Sons Funeral Home. Pastor Allan D. Conover of the First Reformed Church of Coxsackie will officiate.

Interment will follow in the family plot of the Riverside Cemetery.

Woodrow Freese Sr.
Fireman, civic leader

CATSKILL – Woodrow Roland Freese Sr., 60, of Catskill, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at Straton veterans Medical Center in Albany.

Born Jan. 25, 1941, in Manhattan, he was the son of Roselyn “Gerry” Foster Long and the late Vincent Freese.

He was a 1958 graduate of Catskill high School and graduated from Ulster County Community College in 1963, the schools first graduating class.

Mr. Freese served in the Navy from 1959 to 1961 and attained the rank of Seaman First Class.

Mr. Freese was a member of the board of trustees and regional coordinator of the Oley Foundation, treasurer of the Catskill Lion’s Club, former deacon and treasurer of the Kiskatom Reformed Church, member of the Catskill Men’s Republican Club and Catskill Town republican Committee, and life-member of the Kiskatom Fire Department.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Jane Freese, whom he married Jun 11, 1961; a son, Woodrow Roland Freese Jr. of Ballston Spa; two daughters, Zenna Lynn Preli of Clay and Lenora Ilene Freese of Kiskatom; a brother, Douglas Freese of Saugerties; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are form 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, The Rev. David C. Tipple, pastor of Kiskatom Reformed Church, will officiate.

Interment will be in the Town of Catskill Cemetery, Catskill.

HUDSON – Lawrence C. Bubby Clow Jr., 62, of Union St., Hudson, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 17, 1938 in Hudson, he was the son of Nora (Staats) and Lawrence C. Clow Sr.

Mr Clow was a senior foreman at Niagara Mohawk in Hudson for 36 years.

He was a graduate of Hudson High School and member of the National Guard.

Mr. Clow was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Hudson; Washington Hose Co. No. 3; the Hudson Elks Club; the Hudson Moose Club; and assistant Boy Scout Master of Troop 102.

Survivors include his wife, Janice (Nawrockie) Clow of Hudson; two daughters, Cheryl Clow and Lynne DelVecchio; a grandson John DelVecchio; a granddaughter, Alexandra DelVecchio; three sisters, Norine Allen and Roz Izzo, both of Hudson and Kyle Clanton of Maryland; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were conducted 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Bates & Anderson Funeral Home, 429 E. Allen St., Hudson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Church, 429 E. Allen St., Hudson.

Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson.

Anthony L. Rocha
Catskill resident

HUDSON – Anthony (Tony) L. Rocha, 71, of Catskill, died Sunday, April 29, 2001 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

Born Sept. 4, 1929 in Mt. Vernon, he was the son of the late Frank and Maria (Gomes) Rocha.

Formerly of Germantown where he resided for over 20 years, he was a resident of Catskill for the past 15 years and for the past year a patient at the Green Manor Nursing Home of Ghent.

Before his retirement in 1990 he had been employed for 28 years as a sanitation engineer with the City of Mt. Vernon.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia (Lucketti) Rocha who he married November 6, 1948 in Mt. Vernon; a son, Anthony Rocha of Columbiaville; four daughters, Deborah Teegarden and Deanna Rocha both of Hudson, Gene Knauss and Teres Kreig both of Germantown, four sisters, Beatrice, Rosemarie, Lucinda, and Mary, 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Rocha was predeceased by four brothers, Christopher, Frank, Louis, and Manuel.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Germantown.

Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Thursday, from the funeral home and 10 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection of Germantown where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Theodore Gerken.
