Wiktor Dynysiuk Russian immigrant
Medusa—Wiktor Dynysiuk died Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at Albany Medical Center after undergoing emergency surgery.
Wiktor was born in Rovno, Russia on March 3, 1922.
He emigrated from England to the United States in 1951. He was a tireless worker his entire life who was always giving of himself.
Wiktor was predeceased by his son Wolodimir, who died while living in Hawaii in 1995.
Survivors include his wife Anna; children Sophie Przybylowicz and her husband John, Andrew and his wife Robin, Stefan and his wife Deborah; and grandchildren James, Joseph, Michael, Danielle, Sarah, Katlyn, Leah and Jessica.
Services for Wiktor will be private with a memorial to be held on Sunday, Aug. 3, 1002 at the Medusa Volunteer Fire Department from noon to 3 p.m. Friends and family are invited to attend.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Cunningham Funeral Home in Greenville.

William P. McMonegal U. S. Army veteran
Saugerties—Colonel William p. “Micky” McMonegal, Ret., 67, of Finger Street, died on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at the Benedictine Hospital in Kingston after brief illness.
Born Aug. 28, 1935 in the Bronx, he was son of the late William and Helen Murphy McMonegal.
He retired in 1990 after 35
years of service in the United States Army. He served two tours in Vietnam,
Pakistan, Germany, Honduras, Tampa, Columbia, S.C. and Oklahoma.
He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal.
A graduate of Saugerties High School, class of 1953, he attended the University of Oklahoma School of Liberal Arts and graduate Magna Cum Laude.
Micky was former president of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers in Tampa, Fla., a member of the Saugerties American Legion Post No. 72, St. Mary of the Snow RC Church and the Saugerties Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife Tulu of Saugerties; children Nancy Hobert of Tampa, Fla. and Janet Cramer of Lutz, Fla.; former wife Louise McMonegal of Lutz, Fla.; as well as two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
His funeral procession will form at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2002 at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., corner of John and Lafayette Streets, thence to St. Mary of the Snow RC Church when at 1 p.m. his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by the Rev. John Murphy.
Interment will be held at the convenience of the family at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D. C.

Robert S. Caltabiano U. S. Army veteran
Catskill—Robert S. Caltabiano, 63, died at his residence on Friday, Aug. 1, 2003 following a brief illness.
Mr. Caltabiano was born in Kingston on Feb. 5, 1940 to the late Charles and Josephine Gallo Caltabiano.
He served in the U. S. Army following the Korean War and married the former Annette Pollace on Oct. 18, 1959. He was a member of the Local Hudson Valley Carpenter’s Union, serving as the Sergeant in Arms for many years.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He worked with his family as the caretaker and construction engineer for their resort, Pollace’s Crystal Palace on Landon Avenue in Catskill.
Mr. Caltabiano is survived by his wife Annette Caltabiano and their children Robert and Teresa Caltabiano, all of Catskill; grandson, Quinlin Caltabiano of Cairo; siblings Louis Caltabiano of Phoenix, John and Anthony Caltabiano, both of Catskill, and Nellie Blunt of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Aug. 4, at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick’s R. C. Church with the Rev. John J. Murphy, Pastor, as the celebrant.
Private cremation will follow the service at Albany Rural Crematorium.
Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, on Sunday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Westerlo—Caroline A. Eardley,
77, passed away at the Hospice Inn at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Albany on July
31, 2003.
She was born in Pearl River, NY
on Aug. 25, 1925, the daughter of the late George and Ida (Miller) Naugle.
She was formerly employed at Del Lanes in Delmar, NY. An avid bowler, she was a member and secretary of the Elsmere Mixed Doubles League for over 30 years. Long admired for her bowling, she was a member of the NYS 600 club Hall of Fame and bowled on the WRGB TW Tournament Time. She also coached junior bowlers.
Surviving are her husband James Eardley; daughters Kelly Brush and her husband Charles of Westerlo, NY and Lorie Eardley of Scotia, NY; grandchildren Andrea Ragone and her husband Larry of Westerlo and Jennifer Brush; brothers George Naugle of Hudson, NY and Water Naugle of Chester, NY; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 11 a.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81 in Greenville, NY. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, Aug. 4 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interment will be in the Westerlo Rural Cemetery.

Traugott Keinath
Baker
Coxsackie—Traugott Keinath,
98, died on Friday, Aug. 1, 2003 at Villa Mary Immaculate in Albany, NY.
Traugott was born in Winterlingen, Germany on June 12, 1905, the son of the later Johanes and Anna Maria (Stauss) Keinath.
He was married on March 5, 1934 in New York City to Emma Sieber, who predeceased him on July 8, 1984.
He was a Coxsackie resident since 1935, having moved there from New York City.
Mr. Keinath was a baker and instructor at the Coxsackie Correctional Facility for many years, retiring in 1973. He was a member of Ark Lodge #49 F&AM and a member of the Order of the Easter Star. He was also active in the Steuben Society, RIPS Seniors and bowling leagues. In retirement, he enjoyed volunteering at the former Greene County Memorial Hospital in the patient transportation department.
He is survived by his children, Carol Keinath of Coxsackie and Walter Keinath of Lexington, KY. Two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. He was predeceased by five brothers and one sister in Germany.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Sopris Funeral Home, Inc., 11877 Rte 9W Coxsackie. A prayer service will be held at 5:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. John Bradley on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 607 Central Avenue, Albany. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Emily A. Luongo
Purling—Emily a. Luongo, 82 of Woodland Drive, died suddenly on Aug. 2, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.
She was born in Mt. Vernon, NY in Weschester County on April 5, 1921 to the later John and Dora (Amiano) Corrado.
Emily had been a resident of Greene County for 20 years. She was a communicant of the Sacred Heart Church of Cairo, a member of the Italian American Club and loved to work with crafts.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gaetano (Tommy) Luongo on Aug. 2, 2001.
She is survived by daughters Maria Castellano of Purling and Debbie Scott of Cape Cod; brother Daniel Corrado of Elmsford, NY; granddaughter Mrs. Christopher (Linda) Wilson of Purling; great-granddaughter Elizabeth Wilson of Purling and a very dear friend Carl Zacolla of Round Top.
Relatives and friends may call at the Richards Funeral Home, Bross Street in Cairo on Monday, Aug. 4, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church of Cairo with the Rev. Fr. J. Nunan, Pastor. Interment will follow in the family plot of the Round Tip Cemetery next to her late husband.

Vincent Rooney World War II and Korean War veteran
South Cairo—Vincent Rooney, 81, of South Cairo, died Saturday, June 26, at Columbia-Greene Long Term Care in Catskill following a long illness.
Mr. Rooney was born in New York City on Jan. 2, 1922 to the late Owen and Isabella Hannigan Rooney.
He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and Korean as well as the U. S. Naval Reserves.
He was employed as a pipe fitter with Local 537 of Boston.
He moved to South Cairo in 1979 and was a lifetime member of the Cairo Elks Lodge, VFW, and DAV. He was also an avid gardener.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 32 years, Phyllis Rooney of South Cairo; two daughters Mrs. William (Marilyn E.) Russell of Sandwich, Mass. and Mrs. Mark (Judith a.) Rovzar of Cranston, R. I.; three grandsons, Stephen Rooney, Alex and Max Rovzar; four great-grandchildren, Kasey, Andrew, Emma and Declan Rooney; cousin John Rooney; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Rooney was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Tooney; sister, Rita Rooney; brother Eugene Rooney; and a stepson David Mollo.
Mr. Rooney generously donated his remains to Albany Medical College’s Anatomical Gift Program, and a memorial service will be held at the Cairo Elks Lodge in the future.

Robert Christiana U. S. Army veteran
Catskill—Mr. Robert George Christiana, 55, of 5629 Cauterskill Road, died suddenly on Monday, Aug. 4, 2003 at home.
He was born April 6, 1948 in Catskill, the son of the late George and Alice (Schaffer) Christiana.
Robert served in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict. He was a correctional officer at the Brookwood Center in Claverack prior to his retirement.
Mr. Christiana is survived by his children, Catherine Backis, Rebecca Christiana, and Bobbi Jo Christiana, all of Catskill, Shelly Reynolds of South Carolina, and Alice Kozlovich of Connecticut; sister Donna Caltabiano of Catskill and grandchildren Candace and Robert Backis, Katie, Shawn and Sarah Reynolds, Steven and Ashley Kozlovich and Meranda and Tyler Gregio.
Relatives and friends may call at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights in Catskill on Wednesday, Aug. 6 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday Aug. 7, at the funeral home. The Rev. John J. Murphy, Pastor will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Town of Catskill Cemetery.

Timothy G. Daly Child care worker
Catskill—Timothy G. Daly, 51, of 45 North Street, passed away on Aug. 4, 2003 at his residence.
Timothy was born on April 4, 1952 in the Bronx, NY and was the son of the late Edward F. and Margaret (O'Connor) Daly.
Mr. Daly worked as a child care worker at the Anderson Home in Redhook, NY. He was a member of the Hibernians Society in the Bronx and the Youth Development League.
He was a loving brother and respectful of all he encountered. He had a unique intelligence with insight and understanding of intrinsic value. He cared simply, lived amicably and only hoped and prayed for family, friends, and loved ones. It was said long ago the only person Timmy ever harmed was himself.
Timothy is survived by his siblings Edward J. Daly of South Cairo, Dennis C. Daly of Middletown, NY, Gerard J. Daly of Rockway Beach, NY, Terence O. Daly of Holtsville, NY, Patricia Leddy of White Plains, NY, Marybeth E. Woodstock of Ashville, NC and Eileen Murphy of Wilmington, NY. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Richards Funeral Home, Bross Street, Cairo. There will be no calling hours. Private cremation will take place at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands, NY.

Westtown—Alice Cocalas Lain of Westtown, NY, 67, died Monday, July 28, 2003.
Born March 6, 1936 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Helen Cocalas.
Mrs. Lain was a retired employee of Northeast Economic Development Association. She was a member and Elder of Faith Reformed Church, South Centerville, Song of Valley Chorus, active black-belt in Tong-Soo-Do, past president and honorary lifetime member of Northeast Economic Development Association and president and board of director of Faith in America.
Survivors include her husband, Lester Lain; son, Steven and Simone Demberg of Westtown; daughters, Beth and Michael Leith of Denver, Co., Cathy and Don Boney of Rye, NH, Ruthy and Charlie Johnson of Albany, and Ellie and Jeff Rosenbloom of Rochester; grandchildren, Donald, Charlotte, Morgan, Austin, Sarah, Madison, Alex, Emily, Lydia, Natalie, Jacob and Sammuel; step-children, Sally roe of Troy, Pa., Lewis Lain of Westtown, Carol Bulaga of Richmond, Vt., James Lain of Westtown, Jakob Lain of Santa Fe, NM, and Ellen Lain of Middletown, NY; step-grandchildren, Thomas Roe, Sarah, Jacob, Bulaga, Brett, Brandon Gurda, Joshua Lain, Eric, Sonia and Ian Kenny; sisters, Bobbie and Frankie White of Hawley, Pa., Dottie and Richard Laabs of Hawley; and brother, Home Cocalas of North Port, Fla., and many nieces and nephews.

West Coxsackie—Alia (Baris) Orlando, 84, of 314 Bethany Village, West Coxsackie, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003 at the Hallmark Nursing Home in Schenectady after a long illness.
Born in the Bronx, May 23, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Louise (Masiello) Baris.
Survivors include her son, Anthony Riccio of Las Vegas, Nevada; step-son, Michael R. Orlando Jr.; four step-daughters, Jackie Sholz of Auburn, NY, Patricia Carver of Enid, OK. Joan Raciot of Irvine, Ca., and Janice McBride of Rotterdam, NY; 13 grand children; and many cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband Michael Orlando in 1984.
Memorial services will take place on Friday, August 8, at 9 a.m. at the W. C. Brady’s Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie, with Rev. Fr. John Moyna, Pastor of the St. Mary’s Church of Coxsackie officiating.

Surprise—Christopher R. Stone, 18, of Surprise died suddenly as a result of a motor vehicle accident on Monday, Aug. 4, 2003 in New Baltimore.
Born in Oklahoma, City, OK, on Aug. 5, 1984, he is the son of Sarah “Libbie” (Simpson) Hood and James Stone.
Mr. Stone was a 2002 graduate of Greenville Central H. S. and a student at SUNY Albany. He was a former member of the Boy Scouts of America, FFA, Varsity Soccer at GCS and one of the select few members of the “Danes Pond” at SUNY Albany.
Survivors include his mother and dad, Sarah “Libbie” and Gary Hood of Surprise; his father James Stone of Charlotte, NC; a brother, Jonathan Stone; two sisters, Andrea and Gwen Hood of Surprise; grandmother Elizabeth Simpson of Ft. Smith, AK; grandparents, George and Dorothy Hood of Surprise; and an aunt Carann Feazell of Cherry Hill, NJ.

Cairo—Gertrude K. Inglesby, 95, of County Estates in South Cairo, died on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003 at the Columbia Memorial Hospice.
Born Sept. 9, 1907 in Manhattan, she lived in Queens with her husband William, who predeceased her in 1977.
She is survived by her children William C. Inglesby III and wife Virginia of Frewsburg, N.Y., Charles W. Inglesby of Las Vegas, Nev., Katherine G. Weygand and husband Richard of Cairo, Carol D. Gentes and husband George of Spring, Texas; sister Alice Burt of Bridgewater, Mass.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sept. 13, 2003 at the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Cairo at 1 p.m. Private interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Richards Funeral Home in Cairo.

Burtis Woodruff U. S. Air Force
Medusa—Burtis “Burt” Woodruff, 76, died at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany on Aug. 6, 2003.
He was born in Dormansville, N.Y., on Sept. 3, 1926, the son of the late Hubert and Edith (Hilson) Woodruff.
Burt served his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He retired from Clifford B. Hannay & Sons, Inc. where he had worked in the Wood Working Shop.
He was an active member of Rensselaerville Vol. Fire Co., a 60-year member of the Hiawatha Grange, member and past Chap[lain of the Clark White Post No. 0589 American Legion and a tireless and dedicated board member and Treasurer of the Durham Center Museum. He was also a member of the Dormansville United Methodist Church and was active in and attended the Medusa United Church of Christ.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 55 years, Delyghte (Shaver) Woodruff, sister Dorothy Udell of Delmar, brother Gerald “Pete” Woodruff of Dormansville, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be on Sunday, Aug. 10 at 8 p.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. prior to the service. The Rensselaerville Vol. Fire Co. and the Clark White Post American Legion will conduct services at the funeral home prior to the service.
As to his wishes, cremation will be at the Albany Rural Cemetery with interment in the Medusa Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Those who wish may contribute in Burt’s memory to the Rensselaervlle Ambulance or The Durham Center Museum.

Katherine Lovell Moved to Catskill in 1935
Eugene, Ore.—Katherine Lovell, daughter of George and Margaret Cochran, died peacefully at her Eugene, Ore., home on July 29, 2003, at the age of 68. The cause of death was lung cancer.
Born in Teaneck, N.J., Katherine moved to Catskill with her family in 1935 and lived there until graduating from high school and entering college at SUNY Albany.
She began a teaching career in Chatham, eventually moving to Oregon and completing a Ph. D. at the University of Oregon.
She worked in educational administration for many years in Morgantown, W. Va.
In 1977 she married her partner of 25 years, Lloyd Lovell, who preceded her in death later that year.
She is survived by her brother, John Cochran of Whitesbore; four stepchildren; and seven grandchildren.

Cairo—James H. Stark, 56, of Brookside Mobile Home Park in South Cairo, died suddenly on Aug. 6, 2003 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in Hudson.
He was born in Middletown, Conn., on Sept. 23, 1946 and was the son of Rita M. (Latrell) Stark and the late Robert Stark.
James was employed by many local fair and carnival companies as a rigger in charge of the carnival rides.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his fiancée Kathryn J. Barney of South Cairo; sisters Patricia Royce of Connecticut, Helen Wright and Marge Lagendyk, both of Florida; and brother Robert Stark of Connecticut.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Aug. 11, 2003 at 7 p.m. at the Richards Funeral Home, Bross Street in Cairo, with Douglas Faulkner of the First Baptist Church of Catskill officiating. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Private cremation will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003 at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.
Interment will take place in the family plot in Connecticut.

Duane Van Ness U. S. Navy veteran
Portland, Ore.—Duane Jeffrey Van Ness, 63, of Portland, Oregon, died July 7, 2003.
He was born Jan. 24, 1940 in Catskill.
He attended Coxsackie-Athens Central School before entering the United States Navy. He was a member of VFW Post 1.
He is survived by his mother Louetta Brazitsky of Sandy, Ore., father Frank Van Hess of Coxsackie, sister Effie Waugh of Terrebonne, Ore., brothers Franklin Van Ness of South Bethlehem, and Clinton Van Ness of Coxsackie. He is also survived by his three daughters and their families, Jeanie, Vince Daniel, & Breanna Walters, Denise, Jay, Jason Amanda, Samantha & Alex Simons; and Amy, Mark, Cody & Conner Rolph; as well as several aunts, uncles cousins, nieces and nephews.

John J. Fromer Retired Greene County judge
Catskill—The honorable John J. Fromer, 77, died at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003. A serious fall in May of 2002 resulted in a severe spinal cord injury causing paralysis and eventually his death.
Born Aug. 7, 1926, at home in Tannersville, he was the son of Paul L. and Adelaide Molter Fromer.
A retired Greene County Court Judge, Mr. Fromer was working as a New York State Judicial Hearing officer at the time of his accident. He graduated from Hunter-Tannersville Central school in 1947, entered the Army Air Force and eventually completed his law degree at Union University, Albany Law in June of 1952. He set up a successful law practice with his father in Tannersville where he practices for many years before entering into public service as the Deputy Secretary of New York State of Judge Lemenzo in the 1960s.
As an active community member, John was a Republican Committee man in the town of Hunter, a past president of the Lions Club, a member of the Greene County Bar Association, the Mount Tabor Lodge of Masons, the Tannersville Fire Company, the Civil Air Patrol and the American Lodge.
Mr. Fromer is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rita Wall Fromer; seven children, Christine Fromer of Jersey City, N.J., Marilyn Carlson of Tannersville, John J. Fromer Jr., of New York City, Daniel Fromer of San Pedro, Calif., Mark Fromer of Tannersville, Julia Fromer Galac of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and Timothy Fromer of Bayonne, N. J., nine grandchildren; and two brothers Leonard P. Fromer Jr. and Frederick Fromer.
He was predeceased by his son David Fromer in 1992.
Calling hours are Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m., immediately followed by a memorial ceremony at 8 p.m. at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, Main Street, Hunter. The memorial ceremony will be conducted by the Rev. Howard Velzy.
Private interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Community Hospice or the Tannersville Rescue Squad.

Hudson—Roland F. Smith, 84, of Route 66, Claverack, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born Nov. 16, 1918 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Chester D. and Elsie (Scism) Smith.
Mr. Smith served as a staff sergeant in the United States Army with HQ Company 106th Infantry during World War II in the Eastern Mandates, Ryukus, and the Western Pacific. He earned the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was employed as a hammersmith for over 20 years with the Mephisto Tool Company in Greenport. He also worked for Grifford Wood in Hudson.
Mr. Smith was a lifelong area resident.
He was a life member and past commander of the Hudson American Legion Post 184; a former member of the Hudson Elk’s Club and a former member of the First Reformed Church in Hudson.
Survivor include his wife of 56 years, Wilma (Dunbar) Smith of Claverack; three sons, Roland F. Smith Jr., of Florida, Peter M. Smith of New Jersey and Richard Smith of North Carolina; a brother, Chester P. Smith of Hudson; four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Smith was predeceased by a sister, Anne VanDenburg.
Funeral services are with the Bates& Anderson-Remond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green St., Hudson.

Dorothy Baker Nurse’s Aide
Catskill—Dorothy Baker, 71, of Division Street in Catskill, passed away on Aug. 12, 2003 at the Community Hospice at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson after a long illness.
Dorothy was born on March 19, 1932 in Baldwin, Long Island, NY, and was the daughter of the late Edward and Helen (Murray) Dixon.
Prior to her retirement, Dorothy was employed at St. Joseph’s Villa in Catskill as a nurse’s aide.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters Bonnie Hendricks and her husband Richard, and Michelle Santos, both of Catskill; sisters Sheila, Betty and Jean; grandchildren Allie Marie and Damion Antonio Santos, both of Catskill; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Nelson A. Baker, son Alexander Edward Baker, Jr., who passed away in 1970 and her brother Edward Dixon, Jr.

Kathryn E. Roberts Former Kiskatom resident
Colonie—Kathryn E. Roberts, 97, died Jan. 13, 2003 in Seminole, Fla., with cremations and service on Jan. 25.
Born Oct. 25, 1905 in Kiskatom, she is survived by a sister, Margaret Pfleghaar of Palenville; daughter, Cynthia of Colonie; four sons, George of W. Virginia, Keith and Edward of Palenville, and Paul of Missouri; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, George; brother, Paul and two sisters, Evelyn Walsh and Frances Des Rosiers.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, 2 p.m. at the Palenville Methodist Church with Pastor Linda McEathron officiating.

Gordon William Usticke Former Catskill Trustee
Scottsdale, AZ—Gordon William Usticke, 68, died at his winter home in Scottsdale, AZ, of pancreatic cancer on April 19, 2003. He was able to enjoy time with his six children during his final days.
Born in New York City on June 5, 1935, he was the son of Claire Forsythe and Gordon Wright Usticke.
While growing up in New York City, he began his lifelong romance with cinema and literature. Throughout his life he amassed an extensive library of movies and books.
Mr. Usticke served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged n 1956. He earned his BA degree in Philosophy from the University of Dayton in Ohio in 1962. He began teaching career in New York City and later served a s a teacher in the Kingston schools where he was elected President of the Teacher’s Association. He went on to teach in the Schenectady School District until 1969. At that time, he was hired by Mead Johnson Pharmaceuticals and had a successful career as a salesman.
In 1975 he established the first of several antiquarian bookstores culminating Pan Books and Graphics in Catskill where he employed his vast knowledge of rare and antiquarian books and was a respected bookseller with an international clientele. At this time he began a foray into politics, winning three consecutive terms as a trustee on the Catskill Village Board. He was proud of his work with Dutchmen’s Landing and the historical Beatty House in Catskill. He was also appointed to supervise the civil tasks of the Sheriff’s Department. He retired in 1996.
Mr. Usticke was devoted to serving his community, was an advocate for natural childbirth in the late 1960s, and became a pioneer in securing fathers’ rights in the delivery room. He co-founded the Family Centered Maternity Association in Schenectady. Later he served as president of the Ulster County Unitarian Fellowship. He was a student of genealogy who traced his ancestry to 14th century England and enjoyed corresponding with family around the world.
Survivors include his wife Anne Marie (Fresn) of Plattsburgh, NY and Scottsdale, AZ; stepdaughter, Christian Andersen of Atlanta, GA; four children from his marriage to Phyllis Libman Ruzzi, John of Athens, Alexander and his wife Jill of Sleepy Hollow, NY, Caitlyn of Provincetown, MA., and Roxanna Shinall of Concord, NH; and stepdaughter Erica and her husband Mark Bodwell of Concord, NH. In his marriage to Bonnie Linquest he adopted Linda Linquest of Mechanicsburg, VA, and Michelle Gartner and Betty Jo Gillespie of Sedalia, MO; he has 14 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
He was privately cremated. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Charles A. Maurer Junk yard owner
Hannacroix—Charles A. Maurer, 86, died Aug 14, 2003 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY on Oct. 29, 1916 and was the son of the late John and Wilhelmina (Sprahle) Maurer.
Mr. Maurer was a member of the Medway Grapeville Fire Company, a past member of the Hudson Moose and he loved to play bingo. He retired from the NY Central Railroad and also the Penn Central Railroad and also the Consolidated Rail Company. He also owned and operated the Maurer Junk Yard in Hannacroix. He retired from his working days in 1982.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by sons Charles, Jr., and Wayne Robert Maurer and two grandchildren.
His survivors include sons Thomas and Richard, both of Hannacroix, and Alexander of Athens; brothers Paul and Bernard, both of Hannacroix, Emil of West Athens and James of Earlton; sister Rose Stroud of Hannacroix, 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and also many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will take place Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the W. C. Brady’s Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street in Coxsackie, with the Rev. Eric Blahut, Pastor of the First Reformed Church of West Ghent, officiating.
Interment will follow next to his late wife Beatrice (Weisenger) Maurer, who predeceased him on Nov. 9, 1979, in the Riverside Cemetery.

Alma I. Corratti St. Patrick’s communicant
Catskill—Mrs. Alma Irene Corratti, 74, of 220 Broome Street, died suddenly on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
She was born on April 5, 1929 in Springfield, Mass., the daughter of the late Midor and Grace (Decker) Bleau.
Alma was a former resident of Columbia County. She was a graduate of Chatham High School, a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Catskill, a member of St. Patrick’s Rosary-Altar Society and Catholic Daughter of America.
Alma was active in the Catskill Senior Fellowship, Hoe-Bowl Seniors Bowling League, Catskill Lady Elks, RIPS and Athens Senior Citizens.
Alma was predeceased by her husband Louis M. Corratti, Sr., in 1996; daughter Anna Marie Corratti in 1959; siblings John, Ronald, Thomas and Betty Bleau, Shirley Phillips and Grace Laurange.
Mrs. Corratti is survived by sons Louis M. Corratti Jr. of Catskill and Joseph M. Corratti of Coxsackie; daughter-in-law Sheryl Corratti of Coxsackie; sisters Sandra Tefft of Catskill, Phyllis Smith of Bradenton, Fla., Marjorie Quinn of East Stroudsburg, PA., Elva Conners of Valatie; Helen Flountin of Fort Ann, NY; brothers Robert Bleau of Ocala. Bridgeport, West Virginia—Janice Marie Morse Cleland, 78, of Village Drive, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 26, 2003 after suffering a stroke.
She was born in the village of Bath, NY on Aug 5, 1925, a daughter of the late James F. and Amy (Hill) Morse.
Janice was a graduate of Prattsburgh Central High School, Prattsburgh, NY and the Dermal Way Beauty College. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a hairdresser.
She was a member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church, the Peace Circle, Bridgeport United Methodist Women’s Evangelical Board, Governor Johnson Garden Club and was past president of the United Hospital Center Auxiliary.
Her hobbies included counted cross stitching, bird watching, cooking, flower gardening, and golf. Janice enjoyed attending church and spending time with her family. She looked forward to visits with her church friends, especially their Sunday dinners following church.
Surviving are sons Clifford Alan Cleland and his wife Cynthia of Clarksburg, WV and Donald James Cleland and his wife Linda of Vienna, WV; daughter Kimberly Ann Cleland Colton and her husband Terry of Prattsburgh, NY; grandchildren Joy Cleland Collett of Broadway, VA, Felicia and William Colton of Prattsburgh, NY, Justina Colton of Clarksburg, WV, Jamie Cleland of Vienna, WV, Melissa Bias and Amanda Bias-Ruble of Parkersburg, WV. Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main Street, Clarksburgh, West Virginia from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, 2003.
A funeral service will be held at the Bridgeport United Methodist Church at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 19, with the Rev. Edsil Bragg and the Rev. Olen Robertson, presiding.
The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. to noon at the church.
Interment will be in the Bridgeport Cemetery.

Joseph A. Lefrank Avid GCS sports fan
Greenville—Joseph A. “Joe Joe” Lefrank, 64, died Sunday, Aug. 17 at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill after a long illness.
He was born in Brooklyn on Feb. 23, 1939, son of the late Joseph and Irene (Jonasson) Lefrank.
Mr. Lefrank retired from Clifford B. Hannay & Sons Inc., where he had been employed for 37 years.
He was an avid fan of the GCS sports program and traveled far and wide to attend the games.
He loved his cars and was never seen driving a dirty one. In just the past week Begnal Motors of Catskill picked “Joe Joe” up and gave him a ride in a red Sebring convertible.
Mr. Lefrank was a friend to all he met and will be missed.
Survivors include his sister, Janet Kiefer and her husband Eugene of Greenville; niece and nephew, John Kiefer and his wife Rose of Virginia, Robert Kiefer and his wife Jane of Texas, Karen Kraker and her husband Lou of Greenville, Dennis Keifer and his wife Kimberly of Coxsackie and 11 grandnieces and grandnephews.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81,Greenville.
Funeral services will be 8:30 a. m. Thursday from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial 9 am., from St. John the Baptist Church.
Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery.

Myron A. “Mike” Pratt Former C-A music teacher
Canton, Mass.—Myron A. “Mike” Pratt, of Canton, Mass, died Aug 11, 2003.
Mr. Pratt was born in Braintree, Mass. in 1921. At the age of five he was sent to a vocational school for orphan boys on Thomson Island where he studied woodworking and farming and was inspired by a music teacher. He spent three years working as a pattern maker at Fore River Shipyard in Quincy, Mass. From 1943 to 1946 he served in the Marine Corps where he took part in the invasion of Iwo Jima. He attended Ithaca College majoring in music and after graduating in 1949 he became a music teacher at the Coxsackie-Athens High School. He entered the insurance business at Equitable Life in 1952 and was then transferred to the company’s Boston office. He eventually operated a private insurance agency in Canton which he ran until the early 1990s and ran J. L. Pratt Realtors Inc. in Canton.
Survivors include his wife Janet; two sons, Ralph E. of Canton and Joel D. of Stoughton; daughter Susan L. Zumbahlen of Norwood; two brothers, William of Ohio and Burleigh Roberts of Weymouth; a sister, Mabel Bean of Weymouth; and five grandchildren.
A funeral service was held in Canton followed by interment in the Canton Corner Cemetery.

Helen V. Fallon Meals on Wheels coordinator
Delmar—Helen V. Fallon, 90, wife of the late Jeremiah P. Fallon, died at Good Samaritan Health Center in Delmar, NY on Monday, Aug. 18, 2003.
Born in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Ellen Clair.
She resided most of her life in Queens, NY, moving to Bethany Village Apartments in Coxsackie 25 years ago. She recently moved to Good Samaritan Lutheran Health Care Center in Delmar, NY to be closer to her daughter due to her failing health.
Mrs. Fallon was a long-time resident of Bethany Village where she was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Rosarians and a very devoted to her spiritual faith. She faced her oncoming years with courage, dignity and a strong faith in God, qualities that reflected her generous and nurturing nature.
Helen was very active in planning social activities at Bethany Village, along with performing her duties as the long-time Coordinator for the Greene County Meals on Wheels Program. She was an avid bingo player and had a beautiful singing voice. She devoted her time, energies and companionship to all that needed her.
Helen had quite a sense of humor and loved family gatherings. She had a great memory for family history and was often consulted for help by her loving great-grandchildren in recalling certain people and events related to the family.
Helen loved animals, and took joy in the one she had and the ones she knew throughout her life. She had a special gift that allowed her to discern, understand and respond to everyone’s worries, needs, concerns or joys.
Helen was predeceased by brothers James, John and Dennis and sister Marion.
She will be missed by her devoted daughter Bernadette and loving son-in-law Don Spitz, and son James of Baldwinville. She was “Nen” to eight loving grandchildren: James Spitz and his wife Debbie of Hudson, NY, Michael Spitz and his wife Tracy of Palenville, NY; Kenneth Spitz and his wife Kelley of No Egremont, MA, Donna Spitz Mosher of Delmar, NY, Ellen Fallon of Syracuse, NY, Kathleen Fallon of Baldwinsville, NY, James Fallon Jr., and Patrick Fallon, both of Brooklyn, NY.
She was the loving great-grandmother “Nen” to Christopher, Cheryl, Evan, LeaAnn and Cassidy Spitz, all of Palenville, NY; Meghan and Daniel Mosher of Delmar, NY, Josh Burkhart of Baldwinsville, NY and most recently, great-mother “Nen” to Paul and Antonio Collarusso of Hudson, NY.
She was also Aunt to Dennis Fallon and Margaret Pizanno and their families of New York.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the St. Mary’s R. C. Church in Coxsackie.

Catskill—Mrs. Corinne Paula Gallo, 74, of 164 Vosenkill Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003 at home after a long illness.
She was born Oct. 15, 1928 in Queens, NY the daughter of the late Rosa (Vicario) and Paulo Antonucci.
Mrs. Gallo had been a Catskill resident since 1966. She was employed as a chef at St. Anthony’s Franciscan Friary in Catskill prior to her illness. She was an excellent cook and big band television dancer who loved to dance with her late husband Carmine Gallo, who predeceased her on Sept. 13, 1994.
Mrs. Gallo is survived by her sons, Ronald P. Gallo of Leeds and Conrad B. Gallo of Catskill; daughter Corinna (Gallo) Biagioni of Catskill; sisters Edith Romano of Catskill and Anna Hunt of Maspeth; grandchildren Melissa, Roxanne, Crystal, Zachary, Bridget and Coriann Gallo; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Virginia F. Myers Former Greene County resident
Raleigh, N.C.—Virginia F. Myers, 86, formerly of Catskill and Windham, died in Raleigh, N. C., on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003 following a long illness.
Mrs. Myers was born in Windham.
She had retired from the Greene County Department of Social Services.
Survivors include her son, Larry Fuller of Raleigh, N. C.; son-in-law, Anthony Sapunarich of Catskill; grandchildren James Sapunarich and Paige S. DiMasi of Catskill; Ian Fuller of New Paltz, and Jennifer F. DeRoche and Andrew and Tracey Fuller of Raleigh, N. C.; as well as five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Harold I. Fuller, Alfred J. Davis and J. Gordon Myers; and by her daughter Karyl F. Sapunarich.

Thomas P. Scott Marine Corps Sergeant
Queens, NY—Thomas P. Scott, 67, died on April 28, 2003 in Queens, NY after a courageous battle with cancer.
Thomas was a quiet man with a keen intellect who enjoyed reading Irish history; he loved all things Irish.
He served honorably as a Sergeant with the U. S. Marine Corps from September 1955 to September 1958 and later retired from NYNEX in Manhattan, NY.
He fulfilled his dream to build a log cabin high on a hill in his beloved Windham and visited there shortly before he died.
Thomas is survived by his children, Attorney Tara Scott of Miami, Fla. and Eric Scott of Queens; friend and companion Barbara Lesta of Queens; brother Robert Scott of Ft. Myers, Fla. and Windham; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m. at the Decker Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Windham.
Interment will follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Ashland, NY.

Rita W. Fromer Tannersville resident
Tannersville—Rita W. Fromer, 72, of Tannersville died quietly at her home late Sunday night, Aug. 17, 2003 after a seven-month battle pancreatic cancer.
She was born in Albany on Oct. 23, 1931 to Edward and Ruth (Hooley) Wall.
Mrs. Fromer was a devoted mother of eight children and loving wife of John J. Fromer, who predeceased her by one week on Aug. 10.
She was a member of the Mountaintop Health Committee and the Eastern Star.
Survivors include seven children, Christine Fromer of Jersey City, NJ., Marilyn Carlson of Tannersville, John J. Fromer Jr. of New York City, Daniel Fromer of San Pedro, CA, Mark Fromer of Tannersville, Julia Fromer Galac of Ponte Verda Beach, Fla., and Timothy Fromer of Bayonne, NJ.; nine grandchildren; and a brother, John J. Wall of Weeki Wachee, Fla.
Mrs. Fromer was predeceased by her son David Fromer in 1992 and her husband John last week.

Robert Jackson Painter
Livingston, NY—Internationally known painter and muralist Robert Jackson died at age 72 Sunday. The cause was ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).
Jackson, born in Toronto, painted murals throughout the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, France and Italy. His works can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the White House.
The Columbia County resident had recently been working on landscapes and still lifes, often based on his travels.
A private memorial service is planned.

Peter Wolf, Sr. Born in Austria
Cairo—Peter Wolf, Sr., 94, died at his home on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on Jan. 3, 1909 in Hinterberg, Austria, the son Peter and Gerda (Tschernkowitsch) Wolf.
He was a loving and devoted husband of 56 years to the late Paula (Gerbitz) Wolf.
Mr. Wolf is survived by sister Bertha Radske, of Maspeth, NY; and children Mr. Peter (Karen) Wolf and Mrs. Frieda (John) Schindler, both of Cairo. Martha Halley School teacher
Ravena—Martha Williams Halley, 61, died on Monday, Aug 18, 2003 at her residence.
Martha was born in Maine and came to this area in 1965, living in Freehold, South Westerlo, Coeymans Hollow and Ravena.
She retired in 1997 after teaching at the Coxsackie-Athens Elementary School for 31 years. For 33 years, Martha and her husband owned and operated Aquetuck Antiquities.
Martha was a member of the Greene County Historical Society and the Ravena-Coeymans, Historical Society.
Survivors include her husband Robert P. Halley of Raven and her many friends.

Ellen Neal NYS Civil Servant
Catskill—Ellen Jane Neal, 76, a lifetime resident of Catskill, died on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003 at the Northeast Center for Special Care in Lake Katrine.
She was born Dec. 1, 1926 in Catskill, the daughter of the late Captain Charles and Dorothea (Henderson) Holliday.
During her life, Ellen was employed by the FBI in Washington, D. C.; as a civil servant for New York state; J. J. Newberry’s and Lerners in Catskill.
She loved to do crossword puzzles, watch birds and spend time with her family. Ellen was a loving wife, mother and devoted grandmother.
Mrs. Neal is survived by her husband of over 54 years, Glenn K. Neal of Catskill; daughter Karen Canale and husband John of Holmes; and four grandchildren, Caitlin, Scott, John and Daniel.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003 at the Town of Catskill Cemetery. The Rev. David Tipple, pastor of the Kiskatom Reformed Church, will be officiating.

Quirino Cortina Cortina Gardens owner
New Milford, Conn.—Quirino Cortina, 75, of 164 Shipley Road, Freehold, formerly of New Milford, died suddenly Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. He was the widower of May (Aminti) Cortina.
Mr. Cortina was born in Ripi, Italy, Nov. 19, 1927, son of the late Pasquale and Palma (Lancia) Cortina.
He came to the United States in 1951, and moved from Danbury, Conn., to New Milford in 1963, when he and his wife established Cortina Gardens, Bridgewater Road, New Milford. He retired in 1993, at which time his daughter, Margherita Leviness, took over ownership and operation of the business. Prior to the nursery business, he was a stone mason.
In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and wine-making.
Mr. Cortina is survived by two daughters, Margherita Leviness of Warren, Conn., and Lisa Cortina of Katonah; four brothers, Raffaele Cortina, Ruggero Cortina, Emilio Cortina and Lino Cortina; one sister, Palmina Malandrucculo; five grandchildren, Conor Hannigan, Kieran Hannigan, Declan Hannigan, William Leviness and Christopher Leviness; one great-grandchild, Christopher Leviness Jr.; and his best friend Isolde Anderson of Freehold.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford. Interment will follow in Center Cemetery, New Milford.

Erin L. Feinburg, Memorial service
Cairo—A memorial service to celebrate the life of accomplishments of Erin L. Feinburg is scheduled for Thursday from 7 to p p.m. in the Cairo Town Hall and Library.
Mrs. Feinburg died on May 20, 2003, after a brief illness. She was born and raised in Sidney, Australia after her parents immigrated to Australia from County Donegal, Ireland. She was employed as a secretary for the U. S. Navy in Sydney during World War II and moved to New York in 1944 after marrying her first husband, Thomas Valentine Staker, a U. S. Navy serviceman. She was the widow of Dr. Murray E. Feinburg, DDS, and worked beside him in his dental practice for 18 years. Following his death in 1973 she worked at Fleet Bank in Cairo until her retirement in 1987.
Her lifelong passion was the development and expansion of the Cairo Library, having spent 38 years devoting her time to library activities. She began her service as a volunteer and eventually served as both treasurer and president of the board of trustees. In 2001 she received her first Mid-Hudson Library Trustee Success Story Recognition Award, commemorating her 36 years of service to the library as well as her 21 years as a member of the Greene County Library Association. In addition to her service to the Cairo Public Library she served as a member of the Cairo-Durham School Board in the 1970s during the development of the new high school.
Community members are invited to attend the celebration of Mrs. Feinburg’s life, where memories of her accomplishments and contributions will be shared.

Donald C. White Welder-machinist
Catskill—Donald C. White, 97, of Catskill, formerly of South Westerlo, died on Aug. 22 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
He was born in Preston Hollow on Oct. 14, 1905, son of the late Clark and Nellie (VanDusen) White.
Mr. White was a welder-machinist having retired from Clifford H. Hannay & Sons Inc., in Westerlo.
He was well known in the trotter racing field having been very active in the Saratoga Raceway for many years. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army serving in the Tunisian, Sicilian and Italian Campaigns.
Mr. White was a member of the Greenville American Legion Post 291, the Saratoga VFW Post 420, the Disabled American Vets Sgt. Ledgerwood Post in Florida, the James M. Austin Lodge No. 557 F. & A.M. for over 70 years, a member of the Westerlo Vol. Fire Company for over 40 years and was a member of the South Westerlo C. C. Church.
He was married to his wife Goldie (Wright) White for 71 years. She died in 2002.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, Porter Wright and his wife Louise of Medusa; a niece, Janet Stiles and her husband Stuart of Howells, N. Y., three nephews, Allyn Wright and his wife Alayne of Medusa, Richard Carpenter and his wife Claire of Sommerset, Ky., Robert Carpenter of Baltimore and several great nieces and nephews.
Mr. White was predeceased by a sister, Florence.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.
Calling hours will be noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Interment with military honors will be in the Greenville Cemetery.

Greenville—AnnaMaria Caprio (nee Falcone), 83, formerly of Bloomfield, N. J., died quietly on Aug. 25, 2003 after a long illness.
She was born on Jan. 30, 1920 in Newark, N. J., to Antonio and Christina (Caprio) Falcone. She married John Caprio on May 11, 1946. He predeceased her on May 15, 1996.
She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield and St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville. She will be missed greatly by the many friends and neighbors she met along her journey.
She was much loved “Mom” to Mike, Paul, David , Raymond, Christine Lewis, Mary Riley, Susan Nicastro, Ellen Viscel and Patricia Conti. She was beloved grandmother to 39 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was also a devoted sister to Jean Leith of Roseland, N. J., and her later brother Michael Falcone.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003 at 8:30 a.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home 4898 Route 81, Greenville and a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church.

Gunther Claus World War II veteran
Hensonville—Gunther Claus, 79, a long-time resident of Hensonville, died on Aug. 21, 2003 while under the care of Hospice at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Born on June 7, 1924 in Dortmuna, Germany to Paul and Martha (Krien) Claus, the family immigrated to the United States when Gunther was 4 years old. Initially residing in Jackson Heights, they later moved to Maplecrest to won and operate the Batavia Rock Guest House.
Mr. Claus was married on Oct. 11, 1947 to Dorothy Thompson, who predeceased him on Dec. 27, 1995.
Mr. Claus graduated from Newtown High School in June 1943. A veteran of World War II, he served in Company F of the 156th Infantry, personal body-guards to Gen. Dwight Eisenhower, who was then the chief of allied forces in western Europe.
Mr. Claus worked for over 25 years with his father-in-law Raymond, owner of R. H. Thompson and Son Plumbing and Heating Corporation. He was a 30 year member of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and was employed with the department full-time for the last 10 years.
A past member of the Town Assessment Board, Tax Collector and Dog Warden, Mr. Claus was also a member of the Elks Lodge, the Hensonville Hose Company, the Windham Golden Age Club and the American Legion.
An avid reader, he also enjoyed hunting, boating, bowling, motorcycling, golfing and performing in the band the Musical Knights.
Mr. Claus is survived by daughters Marlene Ryan of Dallas, Ga., Pamela Claus of Potsdam and Joanne Tompkins of Windham, as well as grandchildren Andrea Braren, Lee Ryan, Krystal and Raymond Tompkins.
A burial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Decker Funeral Home in Windham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Hospice at Columbia Memorial Hospital or the Windham Public Library.

Ravena—Conchetta (Connie) Diacetis, 86, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, Aug. 25, 2003.
Daughter of the late Theresa and Ceasar Christiana, and loving wife of over 55 years to the late Theodore Diacetis Sr., she was born on Sept. , 1016 and was a lifetime resident of Ravena.
Connie was the mother to Theresa (Frank) Smith of Niskayuna, Theodore (Maryjane) Diacetis Jr. of Albany, the Rev. Anthony Diacetis, pastor of Our Lady Grace Church in Ballston Lake, Barbara (Terry) Powell of Earlton and the late Constance Diacetis who died shortly after her birth.
She was grandmother to Teresa Smith and Patricia (Jamie) Montena of Niskayuns, Alicia (Brian) Searles of Ravens, James Diacetis of Latham, Mark (Tracy) Diacetis of Connecticut, Stephenie (Andrew) Murphy of Earlton, and Scott W. Powell of California; loving great-grandmother to Matthew and Evan Montena, Emilia and Tyler Searles, Zachary Diacetis, Ashley and Amber Diacetis and Lincoln and Evangeline Murphy.
She is also survived by her siblings Sr. Mary Benedict of St. Colman’s Home in Watervliet, Madeline Guido of Schenectady, Nicolina (Maggie) Downey of Latham, Patrick Christiana of Ravena and Benedict (Benny) Christiana of Florida.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by her son, the Rev. Anthony Diacetis on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, Main Street in Ravena, with interment immediately following the service in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Coeymans.

Westchester—Louis P. Graziano, 74, of 47 James St., Hudson, died Aug. 24, 2003 at the Westchester County Medical Center after a very brief illness.
Born in Stockport May 9, 1929, he was the son of the late Joseph and Maria (Vatalaro) Graziano.
Mr. Graziano served his country in the United States Army from 1950-52. He was a lifetime resident of Hudson and a member of the St. Mary’s R. C. Church of Hudson. He was a member of the Hudson Elks, the Sons of Italy, Washington Hose Co. No 3, the American Legion of Hudson, and the Italian American War Veterans. He loved to travel and to swim and to visit local casinos. Prior to his retirement he was employed at the Frank L. Graziano Beverage Company of Hudson.
Survivors include two sons, Michael L. Graziano of Ghent and Marc A. Graziano of Cragsmore; a daughter, Patricia (Graziano) Crannel of Ghent; brothers Philip, Frank and Joseph Graziano, all of Hudson; sisters Frances Esposito of Catskill, Lena Berninger of Ghent, and Santa DeLuke of Hudson; six grandchildren, Erica Esslstyn, Desiree Graziano, Jeffrey Crannell, James Crannell, Leigh Graziano, and Andrea Graziano; great-grandchild Corey Morelock; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Marion M. Ham Foreign language teacher
Hunter—Marion M. Ham, 97, died at Massena Memorial Hospital on Aug. 18, 2003.
She was born Dec. 13, 1905 in Ticondaroga, the daughter of William Joseph and Mary Jane (McNulty) McCambridge.
She graduated from Ticondaroga High School as valedictorian in 1922 at the age of 16 and in 1926 graduated from St. Lawrence University.
Marion was married to George Richard Ham on June 27, 1934 in the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Haines Falls. Mr. Ham predeceased her in 1992.
Marion taught Latin and French at the Hunter-Tannersville Central School for many years until her retirement in 1965. She was an avid golfer and long-time member of the Windham Country Club, the New York State Teachers Association and St. Mary’s Parish in Potsdam.
She is survived by sons Thomas Ham of Potsdam and John Ham of Hunter; grandchildren Deborah Ham of Mt. Pleasant, Ill., Christine Lucey of Tannersville, Patrick Montague of Hunter; and son-in-law Robert Randall of Potsdam.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by daughter Linda Ham, one brother and four sisters.
Memorial services for Mrs. Ham will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Haines Falls with the Rev. Anthony Motta officiating. Friends may call at the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam on Thursday, Aug. 21, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

East Durham—George Statham, 83, died on Aug. 27, 2003 at the Good Samaritan Lutheran Nursing Home in Delmar.
He was born in Patterson, N. J., on May 7, 1920, the son of the late Ernest and Catherine (Marks) Statham.
He served his country during World War II in the U. S. Army. George was self-employed in the exterior/interior design business.
He was predeceased by his wife Anne Statham in 1995, son George Statham Jr., and brother Ernest Haegler.
Surviving are his children Dennis Statham and his wife Violet of East Durham, Duwayne Statham of Catskill, Steve, Diane and Patricia Statham, all of Suffern, and Beverly Notarnicola of Colorado; sister Laura Dutcher of Florida and brother William Haegler of Callicoon. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Kingston—Margaret Schichtel, 83, of Kingston and formerly of Catskill, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003 at Kingston Hospital.
She was born in Fairview, NJ on April 23, 1920, the daughter of the late Thomas and Tillie Buffico LaMarca.
From 1957 to 1968 she lived on Summit Avenue in Catskill and belonged to the St. Patrick’s Rosary Society. Mrs. Schichtel then moved to Kingston.
She was the beloved wife of Charles “Lee” Schichtel; loving mother of Robert L. and Michael L. Schichtel and Lee Post; mother-in-law of David Post, Anne Schichtel; and the late Patricia Schichtel; sister of Rose DePre, Joseph, Tom and Patrick LaMarca and the later Ana and Fred LaMarca; grandmother of David Post, Christopher, Craig, Connor, Greg, Jeff and Chris Schechtel. Nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral procession will form on Friday, Aug. 29, at 12 p.m. at Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Avenue in Kingston. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church in Kingston at 1 p.m. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Kingston.

Ashland—Richard Henry Tompkins, 72, died peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003.
He was born on June 28, 1931 in Ashland to the late Paul Tompkins and Gertrud (Spaulding) Tompkins.
He attended several one-room school houses, including the still remaining Sutton Hollow School House.
He was predeceased by his siblings Harold Tompkins, Sr., Herbert Tompkins, Evelyn Newcomb, Marjorie Carl, Aletha Mudge, and Pauline VanDyke.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years Josephine (German) Tompkins; siblings Donald, Garry and Gerald Tompkins and Paul Tompkins, Jr., Alice Osborne, Joyce Terry and Glenda Montana.
Mr. Tompkins is also survived by nephew Jake German, who was raised by Richard and his wife Josephine. He is also survived by daughter-at-heart Tracy Lopez and many great-nieces and nephews.

Stephen S. Wing U. S. Air Force veteran
Coxsackie—Stephen S. Wing, Sr., 59, passed away suddenly at his home on Aug. 27, 2003.
He was born Dec. 15, 1943 in Plainfield, NJ, the son of Minor and Marjorie (Clunan) Wing.
He served his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a machinist with CSX in the Selkirk Diesel Shop at the time of his death. Stephen was a member of Wetmore Racing, the I. A. M. Union and Wing Family of America. An avid boater and fisherman, Stephen loved the outdoor life.
Surviving are his wife Laura (Beagle) Wing, of Coxsackie; son Stephen S. Wing, Jr., and his wife Jennifer of Westerlo, NY; stepson Michael Halbritter of Coxsackie; grandsons Kevin, Christian and Justin Halbritter; sisters Barbara Ryndak of Athens and Nancy Taylor of Colonie; nieces and nephews Michelle, Karin and Douglas Ryndak, JoAnne Wennstrom, Craig, Melissa and Keith Taylor; and several other nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Catskill—Barbara Craigie, 90, a long-time resident of Catskill, died peacefully in her sleep at home on Aug. 28, 2003.
Born on June 10, 1913 in Catskill to the late Fred and Reba Field, she grew up in Catskill where she was a regular on the local tennis court.
She married the late Donald P. Craigie, raised her family in Schroon Lake and returned to Catskill in 1966 where she started her 30-plus year career with The Daily Mail.
She is survived by her brother, C. “Fritz” Field of Hagerstown, MD; her two sons Donald F. Craigie of Colorado Springs and Ronald P. Craigie of Catskill; six grandchildren; and six-great grandchildren.

Cornwallville—Joseph Lehocky, 92, passed away at the Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, NY on Aug. 26, 2003.
He was born in Czechoslovakia on March 14, 1911, the son of the late Stefan and Maria (Bartek) Lehocky.
He was retired metal slitter having his own business “Expert Metal Slitter” in Astoria, NY. He was a member of the Yednota Slovak Society in New York City.
Joseph was predeceased by his two wives, Ludmilla (Ondrejka) Lehocky and Maria (Kubick) Lehocky and his son Frank Lehocky, Sr.
Surviving are daughter Maryann Vesely and her significant other James Rouse of Napanoch, NY; grandchildren Linda Vesely, Millie Mareska and Frank Lehocky, Jr.; step-grandchildren Christine Tucker and Tommy McKeough; and great-grandchildren Russell and Kalie Vesely, Darius and Lyndsey Mareska.

Cairo—Thomas J. Madden, 29, of Banta Lake , Cairo and Woodstock, died suddenly on Aug. 27, 2003 as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Kingston, NY.
He was born in Trenton, NJ on July 22, 1974 and was the son of Thomas G. Madden of Bradenton, Fla. and Margaret M. (Brady) Madden of Cairo.
Tommy moved to the East Durham/Cairo area when he was 12 years old. He attended Cairo-Durham High School.
Besides his parents, he leaves behind sisters Tara A. Powell and Bridget A. Madden and niece Kayla Britton. He also leaves behind his beloved fiancé Heather Donnelly, adored infant son Thomas J. Madden, Jr., and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003 at 1 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Mountain Avenue in Cairo, with the Rev. Fr. J. Nunam, Pastor, as the celebrant. On the day of the funeral, every one is asked to meet at the Sacred Heart Church.
There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in the family plot of the Cairo Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to the family. Funeral arrangements under the direction of the Richards Funeral Home, Bross Street, Cairo.

Louis A. Mariani Carpenter
Catskill—Louis Alexander Mariani, 72, of Catskill died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital where he had been admitted earlier that day.
Mr. Mariani was born in Long Island City on March 6, 1931 to the late Alexander and Julia Fontana Mariani. He served in the National Guard and was an independent carpenter by trade. He married the former Janet Mirra on Feb. 8, 1952.
Mr. Mariani is survived by his wife of 51 yeas, Janet Mariani of Catskill; their children Louis R. Mariani of Westerlo, Christopher Mariani of Catskill and Mrs. Richard (Karen) McClain of Washington, DC.; grandchildren Savannah, Louis, Joshua, Christopher and Gregory Mariani; brothers Edward of Nokomis, Fla. and Raymond of Williston Park, NY; as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his sister Eleanor D’Aquino of New York.
Mass of Christina burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the Sacred Heart Church of Palenville at 1 p.m. with interment following in the Palenville Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill prior to the funeral mass.
