This indenture witnesseth that William Howel of the town of Southampton in the County of Suffolk and State of Newyork by the advice and Consent of his mother Elizabeth Howel widow as Guardian Voluntarily Bound himself an apprentice unto Jeremiah White of the town of Durham County of Greene and State of Newyork, to Learn the art and mystery of Shoemaking or Cordwinding in all of its various branches, the said apprentice aged Fifteen years the fourteenth of March 1811 and to serve from the Date hereof until he arrives to the age of Twenty One which will be in the year 1817 March fourteenth all which time the said apprentice his said master shall faithfully serve, his secrets keep his lawful command gladfully he shall do no damage to his said master nor suffer it to be done by others without giving notice to his said master he shall not commit fornication nor contract matrimony nor play at Cards nor Dice nor any other Games of Chance to the Damage of his master he shall not absent himself from his said masters service without his leave but in all things shall behave himself as a faithful apprentice ought to do and the said master shall on his part Do the utmost of his ability to teach or cause to be taught, the said apprentice his art and mystery of Cordwaining and tanning in all its Branches to the best of his skill and knowledge and shall School the said apprentice three months and shall find the said apprentice sufficient meat drink apparel washing & Lodging and shall give him at the Expiration of the said term a Descent suit of Cloths together with his Common wearing apparel, for the true performance of these Covenants & Arguments parties. By Virtue of these presents have hereunto set their hands and Seals. This Twentyeth Day of November Eighteen hundred and ten in presents of
