LISTINGS FOR THE SMITH SURNAME IN
Abstracts of Wills of Dutchess County, New York, 1742-1839,
by Minnie Cohen, 1939 (901 pages, comprising 13 small volumes)
compiled by Reiley Kidd, MD, Seattle, WA, August 2011

In 1939, Minnie Cohen completed her abstracts of wills in Dutchess County, New York.  The resulting book comprises 13 smaller volumes (presumably due to the fact that she divided the task into sections, completing each in chronological order.  The will books included in this book begin with Will Book AA, page 29 and end with the completion of Will Book J.

This book is available online through many libraries, including the Seattle Public Library, via Heritage Quest.  I went through the entire book, and copied her abstracts for each mention of the SMITH surname, including the original will book and page number where each abstract was taken from.  I then reorganized the entries by the given name of each Smith person mentioned.  Where more than one Smith individual is named in a given record, I've included that record under each of their given names.  And within each given name's entries, the abstracts are listed in chronological order.
It should be understood that the entries under any given name may refer to different people, who shared that given name.  Hopefully with the associated information, such as the place the record was created and the names of others in the specific record, will help distinguish between these individuals who shared the same given name.

When more than one date is listed for a will (e.g., 1791/1773), the first date is when the will was signed, and the second is when is appears to have been recorded, following the death of that individual.
