Amasa reported for active duty in Adams, Berkshire, MA, March
1776. He was released from active duty September 1776.
In November 1998, at the behest of some of the Roberts family
descendants of Amasa Ives Jr., a headstone provided by the
Department of Veterans Affairs was placed to mark the grave of
Amasa Ives Sr..
The headstone is in the Clarks Corners cemetery in Chautauqua
County N.Y.. The location is adjacent to the headstones of Betsey
Ives and Amasa Ives Jr. and records his birth date as Nov. 22,
1847 and year of death as 1835.
The research that led to the placement of the marker was part of
the process to establish eligibility for the descendants of Amasa
Ives Sr. to become members of the DAR.

There is some confusion concerning the family of Henry Ives. ACI
gives names of two children, Harry and Arthur. Henry, his wife,
Anna, and three children appear in the census of 1860, living
very near Stephen and Harriet Ives. The three children listed in
the census are Hattie, William, and Peter (who was only a few
months old). To add to the confusion, Arthur's birthdate as given
by ACI and Peter's birthdate as calculated from the census are
very close. Lacking any better information, all five presumed
children are shown here.

Served in the Civil War. Asahel reported for active duty in West
Union, Fayette, IA, 13 August 1862, where he enlisted in Company
F, 38th Iowa Infantry. He was mustered in 11/4/1862. He was
promoted to 3rd Corporal 12/1/1863 and to 4th sergeant 4/16/1864.
On 1/1/1865, the 38th Iowa was consolidated with the 34th Iowa
Infantry, with the resulting regiment being designated as the
34th Iowa Volunteers. Asahel was appointed 1st corporal, company
K, 34th Iowa and served in this rank and unit until mustered out
at Houston, Harris County, TX, 15 August 1865.
