ABBEY
KENNEDY - Robert J. Abbey, 82, of 4606 Waterboro Hill Road, died Friday (Jan. 10, 2003) in WCA Hospital. He was born April 6, 1920, in Steamburg, the son of Ira and Faye M. Stone Abbey. An area resident all of his life, he was the former owner of Abbey Hill Farms in the town of Ellington, retiring in 1996. In earlier years, he had been employed by Paul Anderson, a carpentry business.
He had a passion for the horses he and his son raised, and was always active at all the local and county fairs showing his team horses.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Bell Abbey, whom he married Jan. 3, 1953; a son, William Haskins of Kennedy; five grandchildren: Dawn Shole, Heather and Tim McConkey, William R. and Jeffrey Haskins; and four great-grandchildren.
ANDERSON WASHBURG
7/1/2001 - Berdena W. Anderson, 88, of Ellington died at 1 p.m. Sunday (July 1, 2001) in Heritage Village Health Care Center, Gerry. She was born March 11, 1913, in Jamestown, the daughter of Lawrence and Bessie Waite Washburg Surviving are a daughter, Wanda Livermore of Conewango Valley; nine grandchildren: Melanie Livermore and Allie Saye, both of Falconer, Charles D. Livermore Jr. of Syracuse, Timothy S. Livermore and Roger M. Anderson III, both of Conewango, Todd A. Livermore of Randolph, Christine Condon of Cherry Creek, Dawn Anderson of Ripley and Berdena Anderson of Frewsburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger M. Anderson Sr., whom she married Dec. 6, 1931, and who died Jan. 11, 1984; a son, Roger M. Anderson Jr. on Dec. 27, 1997; a grandson, Kelly R. Livermore on Aug. 24, 1977; two brothers: Clarence and Clebert Washburg; and a sister, Mavis Dean. A graveside service will be held in Valley View Cemetery
ATWELL FAIRBANKS
GERRY - Velma M. Atwell, 91, formerly of Gerry-Ellington Road, died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday (March 27, 2004) in the Heritage Village Health Care Center.
She was the widow of Leland W. Atwell, whom she married Sept. 9, 1931, in Allegany, and who died May 8, 1987. An area resident most of her life, she was born Jan. 6, 1913, in Rossiter, Pa., the daughter of Abraham and Blanche Long Fairbanks. Surviving are five daughters: Beverly Higgs of Sinclairville, Marjory McIntyre of Maple Springs, Laura Smith of Sonora, Ky., Carol Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Sandra Gray of Ellington; four sons: William Atwell of Gerry, James Atwell of Ocala, Fla., Richard Atwell of Shenandoah, Va., and Terry Atwell of Arizona; 42 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert ''Robbie'' Gray; two brothers: Arnold and Gerald Fairbanks; and three sisters: Maude Vandervort, Bess McFadden and Lillie Pearce.
BOOTH

THOMAS BOOTH
Thomas Booth died at his home in Kennedy Thursday (August 8th) at the age of 70 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Flora Booth and a son, Fred Booth, both of Kennedy, and a daughter, Mrs. Emma Drum, Binghamton. The funeral will be held at the Baptist Church at Kennedy Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock of which Mr. Booth was a member. The interment will be in Valley View Cemetery at Ellington.
BOYD
PJ: Obit. 9/1/1982: Kennedy: Melvin "Bus" Boyd, 59, of Waterman Road, Kennedy, died at 6 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 31, 1982) in Buffalo General Hospital.
He was born Oct. 31, 1922 in Jamestown, the son of Marion and Lillian Cobb Boyd. He had spent his entire life in the Kennedy area. Boyd had worked as an equipment operator for the town of Ellington Highway Department He was a World War II veteran.
Surviving are his wife, the former Nancy Hallberg; a son Dana Boyd of Rochester; a step-son, Vaughn Sweatman serving in England with the U. S. Air Force; two daughters: Sherry Dole of North Collins and Gay Kilcoyne of Gowanda; his mother of Kennedy; two grandchildren: Hope Anne and Robert Kilcoyne, both of Gowanda; a brother, Vincent Boyd; and a sister, Shirley Wakefield, both of Kennedy. He was preceded in death by his father, who died in 1980.
BRAINARD
CONEWANGO VALLEY - Ralph E. Brainard, 80, Conewango and Astatula, Fla., died at 9:30 p.m. Friday (Dec. 26, 2003) in the Orlando Regional Medical Center, the result of injuries sustained in automobile accident.
He was born Oct. 17, 1923, in the town of Ellington, the son of Earl and Elizabeth Spencer Brainard.
He was a graduate of Falconer High School and, in earlier years, had operated a dairy farm. He also had been a pawnbroker, cabinet maker and cement plant operator and later for many years had been a purchaser for the Louis Mason Lumber Company and the Ellington Hardwood Lumber Company for 26 years, retiring in 2001 He is survived by his wife, Margaret E. ''Marge'' Reynolds Brainard whom he married Sept. 19, 1970 in Perrysburg, N.Y.; three sons: Steven Brainard of Conewango, Douglas Brainard of Spring Hill, Fla., and Jonathan Brainard of Mt. Dora, Fla.; two: daughter Julie Brainard of Mt. Plymouth, Fla., and Mary Ellrodt of Lady Lake, Fla.; two stepdaughters: Marilyn Brainard of Bemus Point, and Arlene Smith of Cherry Creek; nine grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Stein; and two brothers: David and Donald Brainard. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery, Ellington.
CANFIELD HESS
Ruth P. Canfield, 76, of 9 Church St., formerly of Falconer, died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday (June 25, 2005) in WCA Hospital. An area resident most of her life, she was born April 25, 1929, in Clarion, Pa., the daughter of the late John and Florence Weaver Hess.Surviving are her husband Douglas G. Canfield Sr., whom she married May 7, 1955, in Olean; a daughter, Paulina Aiken of Falconer, two sons: Randy Canfield of East Randolph and Richard Canfield of Mesa, Ariz.; four grandchildren: Dyann and Donny Canfield, both of Ellington, Jared Aiken of Falconer and Nicholas Canfield of Mesa; and two sisters: Mary Canaan of Oil City, Pa. and Janet Hollobaugh of Westfield. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two sons: James Ray Canfield on Sept. 15, 1973, and Douglas G. Canfield Jr. on May 3, 1994; a grandson, Zachary Aiken on July 24, 2001; and two brothers: Delbert and Grant Hess.
CANNON
Laurence E. Cannon, 91, of Hagerdon Hill Road, Ellington, died Jan. 16, 2005 in his home. A lifelong area resident, he was born March 28, 1913 in Falconer, the son of Edwin and Mildred Sampson Cannon.
He was a graduate of Ellington High School and served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. in Allegany State Park. He had been employed by the former Blackstone Corporation for 25 years. He was a life member of the Ellington Rod and Gun Club and a member of the Fox Hunters Association of Cattaraugus County. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing and gardening. He is survived by two sons, Ricky Cannon of Ellington and Charles Cannon of Apple Creek, Ohio; three daughters, Bonnie L. Cannon of Jamestown, Kathleen Willard of Falconer and Candias Nelson of Hohenwald, Tenn.; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Robert Cannon of Bradenton, Fla., Charles Cannon of Ellington and Edwin Cannon of Mayville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie M. Slack Cannon; and a daughter, Dixie Lee Cannon.
CANNON BARRETT

Mrs. Blanche G. Cannon, 84, of RD Conewango Valley, died at 2:50 a.m. Sunday(May 1, 1977) in WCA Hospital. She was the widow of John A. Cannon, who died March 16, 1961.
She was born in Orlando, NY, January 1, 1893, the daughter of Adelbert F. and Minnie Davis Barrett. Mrs. Cannon is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Edyth White of Ellington; a grand-daughter, Mrs. Penny Parker of Ellington, three great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Barrett of RD Kennedy; a sister, Mrs. Grace Slingerland of Derrick City, Pa., and one nephew. She was preceded in death by a son, Gordon Cannon in 1937 and a grand-daughter, Mrs. Gayle Woncki, in 1971. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Ellington, N.Y.

PJ Obit Mon. 12/6/2004: Ellington: LeVern L. Carr, 87, of 5019 Thorton Road, died at 3:25 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, in Westfield Memorial Hospital.
A lifelong area resident, he ws born March 3, 1917, in Jamestown, the son of John and Esther Westerlund Carr.
He was a 1936 graduate of Falconer High School, and was a self-employed farmer in Ashville for many years. He was also a superintendent for a local mirror factory.
He and his late wife enjoyed roller skating for more than 50 years and were members of the Russell Rolling Rascals Skating Club.
He is survived by two daughters: Nancy Dallas of Ashville, and Brenda Carr of Bemus Point; a son, Dennis Carr of Glen Burnie, Md.; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Everett Carr of Ripley, and Wallace Carr of Bemus Point; and two sisters: Grace Frederes and Lorraine Luce, both of Falconer.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Pauletta M. Whitcome Carr, whom he married Aug. 16, 1941, in Sinclairville, and who died Nov. 1, 2002; two brothers: Mahlon and Allen Carr; and a sister, Virginia Carr VanWert.

ELLINGTON - Pauletta M. Carr, 80, 5019 Thornton Road, died at 5:54 a.m. Friday (Nov. 1, 2002) in the Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk. A lifelong area resident, she was born March 1, 1922, in Jamestown, the daughter of Leonard and Mildred Burch Whitcome. She was the wife of LeVern L. Carr, whom she married Aug. 16, 1941, in Jamestown. She was a 1940 graduate of Jamestown High School. She had taught Sunday school for many years, first at Randolph Federated Church, and later at Open Meadows United Methodist Church, and served on the board of the Methodist House in Chautauqua. She and her husband enjoyed roller skating for more than 50 years and were members of the Russell Rolling Rascal's Skating Club. Leland L. Combs, 64, of 1496 Harris Hollow Road, died at 11:45 a.m. Friday (Jan. 16, 2004) in his home. He was born Aug. 22, 1939, in Olean, the son of the late Zola and Margaret Lincoln Combs. He was a 1957 graduate of Limestone High School where he was valedictorian of his class. He was the owner and operator of Harris Hollow Lumber, retiring in 2003 He is survived by his wife, Margaret A. Clark Combs, whom he married Feb. 15, 1964, in Otto, N.Y.; two sons: Eric and James Combs, both of Kennedy; three daughters: Sara Cummings of Greensboro, N.C., Jill M. Muntz of Ellington and Kathi Royle of West Ellicott; eight grandchildren: Ashley Green of Jamestown, Jeffrey Green of Sinclairville, Branden and Dylan Muntz, both of Ellington, George IV, Fantasia and McKayla Royle and Lance Wares, all of West Ellicott, five stepgrandchildren: Alicia, Zachary and Caleb Wares, all of Little Valley, Kurt Cummings of Bradenton, Fla., and Kevin Cummings of Pittsburgh; two brothers: Larry Combs of Limestone and Russell Combs of Athens, Ohio; and a sister, Barbara Chadwick of Limestone. P.J. clipping dated Aug. 17, 1949: Mrs. Ida Engdahl Clauson, 75, of R.D. 4, Jamestown died in Jamestown General Hospital Tuesday night.Mrs. Clauson was born in Cherry Creek in 1874, the daughter of August A. and Margaret Johnson Samuelson.
Surviving are three sons, Clifford, Theodore and Robert Engdahl, all of Dewittville; five daughters, Mrs. Herbert Ohrn, Falconer; Mrs. Edith staples, Mrs. Saner Hulliben, Mrs. Gladys Grimshaw and mrs. Everett Peterson, all of this city; a brother F. Oscar Samuelson of Ashville; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

P.J. Sept. 10, 1946: Ellington - Gust E. Engdahl, 79, died at the Jamestown General Hospital on Monday at 8 p.m. He is survived by three sons, Clifford, Robert and Theodore Engdagl of Dewittville; five daughters, Mrs. Jennie Ohrn of Falconer and Mrs. Edythe Staples, Mrs. Gladys Grimshaw, Mrs. Nellie Hullihen and Mrs. Lucile Peterson of Jamestown; a brother, Allen Engdahl of Ellington, 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Born in Sweden and coming to this country at the age of 7, he had since resided in this part of the county, engaged in farming at Cherry Creek, Ellington, Bemus Point, Dewittville and Levant. He was a member of Ellington Lodge I.O.O.F. The remins are at the Mattison Funeral Home, Kennedy, and funeral services will be held there on Thursday at 2 p.m., with Rev. R. W. Neathery of Falconer officiating. Interment will be in the Ellington Cemetery.

She was born in Coveville, on Jan 3 1865, the daughter of Stephen and Maryann Larrington Gibbs, in the Dauegat House, where General Burgoyne had a hospital in the Revolutionary War. She went west by ox cart with her parents and returned at the age of 16 She was married on Oct. 7, 1883, and spent four years in the West, returning to this vicinity, and had resided here 18 years. Mrs. Freeman was a member of Mecca Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, and was a past grand of the Maple Park Rebekah Lodge of Sinclairville, and a member of Princess Rebekah Lodge of Jamestown. She was also a member of the Civic Forum and the Little Theater group.
The body is at the Powers Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Irene G. Benson Gray, 89, of Buffalo, formerly of Jamestown, died Thursday (Oct. 6, 2005).
She was born Dec. 27, 1915, in Jamestown, the daughter of Howard and Alice Benson. A high school graduate, she had been employed by Buffalo General Hospital in housekeeping for many years. She was a member of The Church of the Ascension in Buffalo. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be sadly missed by many relatives and friends. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Lapeer of Michigan; four grandchildren: Stephen Boutelle, Deborah McGinley, Lisa Armendarez and Jeffery Lapeer; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The funeral of Mrs. Clarissa LINCOLN GREEN widow of the late Lorenzo GREEN passed away Sunday, January 21, age nearly seventy five years, was held from the family home Wednesday, January 24th. Rev. J. M. MERRILL, pastor of the Congregation Church officiated. Interment in the Valley View Cemetery.
Among those present from out of town Mr. and Mrs. TURNEY of Charlotte Central, William FULLER, Mrs. Minnie GREEN of Jamestown, Mr. and Mrs. Albert WHEELOCK, Ezra KIMBALL of Poland, Mr. and Mrs. Henry LORD of Dewittville and Mrs. Marina PUTNAM of Campbell.
Clarissa LINCOLN was born in Ticonderoga, New York, April 23, 1837 one of a family of eleven children, the last one to pass away, coming to Chautauqua County with her parents at the age of 2 years which has since been her home. She was married to Lorenzo GREEN, August 25, 1855. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. GREEN of whom four survive. Theron L., Seward L., Ellen and Ira L.. These and a grandson Marion T. GREEN all reside in Ellington.
HALL
PJ: Sept., 1963: Arthur C. Hall, 61, of 817 Jefferson St., died at 10:30 a.m. Monday (Sept. 30, 1963) in Roswell Park Memorial Institute, Buffalo.
Mr. Hall was employed as a machinist at Anderson Machine Corp., retiring in February due to ill health.
He was born Feb. 24, 1902 in the Town of Ellery, the son of George and Blanche Thompson Hall. He had resided in the area all his life.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bessie Carlson Hall; three daughters, Mrs. Glenn Millward and Mrs. Gordon Stearns, both of Sinclairville, and Mrs. Joseph Trusso, Buffalo; 13 grandchildren; three brothers, Howard Hall and Charles Hall, Jamestown, and LaVerne Hall, Kennedy; two sisters, Mrs. Theodore Berg, Tompkins Road, Jamestown, and Mrs. Alden Abbott, Sugargrove, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

JAMES SKINNER
Helen JAMES, 86, of Edgewater, Fla., formerly of Stedman, N.Y., died Monday (Dec. 27, 2004) in Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna, Fla.
She was born May 28, 1918, in Napoli, the son of Henry and Avis Harvey Skinner.
She is survived by a son: Roger James of Edgewater; a granddaughter, Susan Gorton of Gallupville, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Alberta Smith of Randolph and Oleta Larson of Mayville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie F. James, whom she married June 18, 1938, in Little Valley, and who died April 2, 1988; and a brother, Lynn Skinner.
A family graveside service will be held in Valley View Cemetery in Ellington at a later date.
JOHNSON SPENCER
ELLINGTON - Diane M. Johnson, 45 of 4887 South Hill Road, Ellington, died at 12:35 a.m. Wednesday (March 23, 2005) in Westfield Memorial Hospital.
A lifelong area resident, she was born Dec. 4, 1959 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Guy and M. Eunice JAMES Spencer She attended Falconer High School, and in earlier years, along with her mother, operated Spencer's Restaurant in Ellington. In later years, along with her sister, she operated Sand Pipers Restaurant at the Chautauqua County Airport.
She is survived by her husband, Gary F. Johnson, whom she married Oct. 11, 1980, in Ellington; two daughters: Nicole Morrison of Falconer and Brandy Johnson of Ellington: a grandson, Bryant Christopher Morrison of Falconer; a sister, Penny Johnson of Ellington; two brothers: Bradley Spencer of Ellington and Mark Spencer of Atlanta; and a stepbrother, Frank Sischo of Ellington.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Margaret Morrison, who died in 2004; and a brother, Barry A. Spencer, who died in 2004.

KNAPP OLSON
Beatrice L. ''Betty'' Knapp, 69, of 2161 Old Chautauqua Road, died at 12:25 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 30, 2003) in WCA Hospital. She was the widow of Elvin D. ''Soc'' Knapp, whom she married Sept. 12, 1951, in Falconer, and who died Nov. 21, 1997. A lifelong area resident, she was born Sept. 8, 1933, in Jamestown, the daughter of Orvis L. and Marion L. Harkness Olson. She was a 1950 graduate of Cassadaga High School and was employed for more than 20 years by the former Marine Midland Bank, retiring in 1992. She attended Ellington United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Vicki Green of Ellington; two grandchildren: Eric and Breanna Green, both
of Ellington; a brother, David Olson of San Francisco; and a sister, Bernice Stuart of San Francisco.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha Olson.
McKOON HUME
Violet H. McKoon, 83, of 9372 ? 120th Way North, formerly of Falconer, died Monday (April 25, 2005) under the care of hospice. She was the widow of Ward E. McKoon, whom she married Sept. 1, 1945 in St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Jamestown, who died Feb. 19, 1995. She was born June 2, 1921, in Falconer, the daughter of John and Lula Ramsey Hume. She was a graduate of Ellington High School, earned her bachelor's degree from the State College at Fredonia, and did graduate work. She taught elementary school in Ellicottville, the Catskills, Randolph, and retired in 1976 from Falconer Central School, where she had been employed for 33. She is survived by two sisters: Lillian Manning of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Barbara Lane of Jamestown. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jacquelyn Stanford who died in 1999
MILLER
Chad Michael Miller, 28, of 1372 West Hill Road, died at 9:20 a.m. Saturday (May 17, 2003) in the Sharp Chula Vista Hospital, San Diego County, Calif.
He was born Feb. 21, 1975, in Gowanda, the son of Thomas G. Miller and Katheleen Milks Johnson.
He was employed by Spony's Auto Sales in Jamestown, and had worked with his father at Miller Well Drilling. He was a member of the Randolph Moose Lodge and the Frewsburg American Legion.
Besides his father of Ellington and his mother of Randolph, he is survived by his wife, Tricia R. P.J. Sept. 6, 1945: South Stockton - Foster L. Ostrander, 59, of this place, a former educator for many years and district deputy grand master of Chautauqua District, No. 1, died at the Millard Fillmore Hospital, Buffalo, on Wednesday at 11:55 a.m. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Freeman Ostrander; a son, Leon Ostrander of Hamburg, N. Y.; a daughter, Mrs. Eloise Merchant of Bernardsville, N. J.; two brothers, Alan Ostrander of Ellington and Forest Ostrander of Tempe, Ariz., and five grandchildren.
Born in the Town of Gerry on Jan. 31, 1886, son of Egbert and Celestia Johnson Ostrander, he was educated at Ellington High School and Cornell University, taught in several Chautauqua County schools, served as principal of the Cairo, N. Y. High School and as superintendent of the Indian School at Versailles, N. Y. He was a member of the National Grange; a director of the Chautauqua County 4-H Clubs, and a member of the Chautauqua County Historical Society, Ellington Lodge, I.O.O.F., and Maple Park Rebekah Lodge of Ellington. OSTRANDER FREEMAN
Foster L. Ostrander married Alice Freeman on July 6, 1909. Alice was born Oct. 17, 1886 in Keswick County, Iowa and died March 1, 1980 in Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colchester, Vt., where she had been a patient the past 15 months at age 93. She is buried in Valley View Cemetery, Ellington. The parents of Alice were Leon W. & Mary Ann Gibbs Freeman. She came to this area in a covered wagon at an early age. She was a graduate of Ellington High School and Fredonia Normal School and had taught school for 37 years at Ellington, Gerry and Stockton. She was a member and past noble grand of Princess Rebekah Lodge and a past district deputy of Rebekahs; a life member of Chautauqua County Historical Society; member of the Ellington Garden Club; and a charter member of the Jamestown Audubon Society. She had served 10 years as a 4-H leader; and was a former member of the Sinclairville Garden Club and Sylvia Chapter OES. She had two sisters, Calla Freeman and Jenny Freeman of Jamestown. Her mother, Mary Ann Gibbs Freeman was the daughter of Stephen and Maryann Larrington Gibbs. She was born Jan. 3, 1865 in the Dauegat House where General Burgoyne had a hospital in the Revolutionary War. Mary Ann married Oct. 7, 1883. Ellery Scrapbook F, pg 4.

Philip E. Pickup, 61, of 5200 Thornton Road, died at 5 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 5, 2005) in his home. A lifelong area resident, he was born Aug. 10, 1943, in Jamestown, the son of Everett and Lucile Boardman Pickup. He was a 1962 graduate of Pine Valley High School and had been employed at MRC Bearing for 37 years, retiring in 2002. A lifetime member of the Ellington Fire Department He is survived by his wife, Caryl J. Carlstrom Pickup, whom he married July 6, 1963, in Busti; two sons: Scott Pickup of Woodstock, Ga., Mathew Pickup of Ellington; a granddaughter, Morgan Pickup of Ellington; and a brother, Timothy Pickup of Gerry. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Thomas and John Pickup.

Chester E. RALPH aged 63
of Kennedy, Chautauqua Co NY, died 11 am at the home of his sister, Beatrice COBB, 609 2nd st Kennedy NY following a lengthy illness. For many years he had worked at Dahlstrom Manufacturing Co, retiring in 1977. An area resident most of his life, he was born Jan 8, 1917, in MAsury OHIO. The son of Guy and Jessie MOFFETT RALPH. He was a member of the Jamestown NY Moose Lodge.

Edna G. Rexford, 86, of 264 S. Main St., died at 1:19 p.m. Friday (Jan. 28, 2005) in her home. She was the widow of Lynn E. Rexford, whom she married in 1939, and who died May 5, 1958. A lifelong area resident, she was born May 26, 1918, in Kennedy, the daughter of Worthy and Carrie PRATT Gilbert.
She is survived by a son, Donald Rexford of Pattersonville, N.Y.; and a daughter, Lynette Rexford of Elmira. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Town; and a brother Edwin Gilbert.
RHINEHART
George M. Rhinehart, 72, 5498 Thornton Road, Ellington, died Friday (Nov. 14, 1997) in his home. He was born July 25, 1925, in the town of Ellery, son of the late G. Leigh and Lena Murdock Rhinehart. A Chautauqua County resident most of his life, he was self-employed as a dairy farmer and also processed maple syrup. He was a member of the Ellington Volunteer Fire Department for more than 40 years and held the position of fire commissioner from 1977 to this year. In 1978, he was named Fireman of the Year.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joyce Ingerson Rhinehart, whom he married Feb. 2, 1951; three sons: Tim and Tom Rhinehart, both of Ellington and Max Rhinehart, U.S. Army of Fort Lewis, Wash.: three daughters,: Wanda Young of Ellington, Joan Swanson of Kennedy and Becky Sheesley of Bemus Point; eight grandchildren: Bret, Jamie, Kerri and Kyle Rhinehart and Heather Young, all of Ellington, Amanda Cross at the University of Arizonia, and Tyren and Constantia Rhinehart both of Beckley, W. Va.; 13 stepgrandchildrren; three brothers: Walter Rhinehart of Smithport, Pa., Robert Rhinehart of Ellington, and Clifford "Tip" Rhinehart of Bemus Point; and one sister, Mildred Kesby of Bemus Point. He and his wife also served as foster parents for 20 years, parenting over 75 children.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Seth Rhinehart.

J. Rodney Sharp, 90, of Lutheran Retirement Home, formerly of Tanglewood Manor, died at 1:23 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 14, 2004) in WCA Hospital. He was born Aug. 8, 1914, in Driftwood, Ark., the son of Oliver and Cansada Mize Sharp and was raised by the Robert L. Scott family in Hamlet, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beulah Gilbert Sharp, who died Aug. 17, 1970; his second wife, Viola Menard Wilson Sharp, whom he married June 10, 1989, in Tanglewood Manor, and who died July 8, 2001; and a brother, Jesse Sharp, who died in August 2003. Viola Menard Wilson Sharp of Tanglewood Manor, formerly of 8 Water St., Frewsburg, died at 4:31 a.m. Sunday (July 8, 2001) in WCA Hospital. An Irvin, Pa., resident until coming to Jamestown in 1956, she was born Dec. 21, 1909, in Central Falls, R. I., the daughter of Dennis and Alice Menard. She is survived by her husband, J. Rodney Sharp, whom she married June 10, 1989, in Tanglewood Manor; a daughter, Barbara Jean Schrader of Illinois; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and a sister, Eva Jackson of Warren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph P. Wilson; two sons: Paul R. and James D. ELLINGTON--Annie M. Terry, 94, of 5089 Mill St., Box 381, died at 8:30 p.m. Friday (Oct. 11, 2002) at home. A lifelong area resident, she was born Aug. 16, 1908, in the town of Ellington, the daughter of Carl and Rosa Bertalino Funcello. She attended Ellington High School. She was a member of the Ellington Fire Department Auxiliary and served on the board of the Farman Free Library for many years. She was a member of the Ellington Garden Club and attended the Ellington Congregational Church. Surviving are two granddaughters: Debbie Rhinehart, with whom she made her home, and Lorri LeBarron of Falconer; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Frank Funcello of Sebastian, Fla. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank LeBarron in 1943, second husband, Lewis M. Terry, whom she married Nov. 22, 1947, in Kennedy, and who died Jan. 27, 1991; a son, Richard LeBarron in 1994; and several brothers and sisters, including: Joseph, Nicholas and Louis Funcello, James Funcell, Katherine Scarpino and Flora Anderson.

The remains of M. (*MAHLON) Doan Waggoner who died at Sinclairville on Sunday, Sept. 2, were brought here (Ellington) for burial in the Valley View Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Waggoner was born in Canada on July 5,1823 and he with his wife, the former Amarilla Houd who died some 24 years ago, were for many years residents of this village. He is survived by three sons and two daughters:

She was a graduate of Ellington High School and, with her husband, operated a dairy farm on Drybrook Road for many years, retiring in 1980. Surviving are her husband, Gerald S. Wakefield, whom she married Sept. 20, 1940; two sons: Ronald Wakefield of Sparks, Nev., and Dr. Douglas Wakefield of Iowa City, Iowa; four grandchildren: and two sisters Florence Ingersol of Warren and Eleanor Moore of Hudson, Fla. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Evelynne Chase and Marjorie Green; and two brothers: Lawrence and Lloyd Abbey. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Ellington, NY.

PJ: Sept., 1981: Kennedy: Homer L. Walker, 69, of Falconer Kennedy Road, died 8:42 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 1, 1981) in WCA Hospital. For many years he had worked as an electrical maintencance man in various factories in the Jamestown area.
Walker was born Aug. 1, 1912 in Tidioute, Pa., the son of James and Margaret McKinney Walker. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Ostrander Walker, whom he married Sept. 9, 1938; a son, Gary Walker of Junction City, Kan.; two grandsons: Jacob and John Walker, both of Junction City, Kan. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Ralph, Lee, Herman and Guy Walker.

Florence E. Walker, 88, of 584 Main St., died at 4:20 a.m. Thursday (June 26, 2003) in the Heritage Park Health Care Center. She was the widow of Daniel Walker, whom she married Sept. 12, 1936, in Falconer, who died June 13, 1952.
A lifelong area resident, she was born Feb. 19, 1915, in Kennedy, the daughter of Vern and Bertha DeBell Hitchcock.
She was a graduate of Jamestown High School. She is survived by a son, James Hitchcock of Ellington; a daughter, Margery Doty of Falconer; 10 grandchildren: 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Chapman of Jamestown. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Harold Walker; a sister, Inez Parker; and four brothers: Russell, Edwin, Raymond and Ralph Hitchcock. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery, Ellington, NY.
WHATTLER
PJ: April, 1967: Harry F. Whattler, 78, R.D. 1, Elmhurst, a parking attendant for the past five years at the WCA Hospital, died at 7:35 a.m. Sunday (April 30, 1967) at the hospital.
He was born in Buffalo, Jan. 21, 1889 and had resided in the Jamestown area for many years. He retired in 1954 as a polisher from the Weber-Knapp Co. Mr. Whattler was a 25-year member of Ellington Lodge, I.O.O.F., and served as a noble grand. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mildred A. Taylor Whattler; two sons, Lyle Whattler, Conewango Valley; and Donald Whattler, R.D. 1, Jamestown; two daughters, Mrs. Muriel Rissel, Kennedy; and Mrs. Phyllis Willis, San Jose, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Sadie Horn, Buffalo; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
