ANDERSON
Donald C. Anderson Sr., 57, of Stockton died Sunday (March 14, 2004) in Brooks Memorial Hospital. He was born May 30, 1946, in Jamestown, the son of the late Raymond and Maxine Freeman Anderson. A Chautauqua County resident most of his life, he was a 1964 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School and a 1978 graduate of Jamestown Community College. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sandra Woodard Anderson, whom he married Aug. 7, 1965; a son, Donald C. Anderson Jr. of Sinclairville; a daughter, Lindsay Pollack of Angola; and his granddaughter, Kayla Anderson of Sinclairville.

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Thelma M. Black, 78, of New Port Richey died Sunday (April 20, 2003) in Community Hospital. She was born July 23, 1924, in Stockton, the daughter of Edward and Stella Richey Marsh. Surviving are a son, Edward J. Black of Sugar Grove; a grandson, Paul Black of Findley Lake; a granddaughter, Jody Altman of Cassadaga; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Shirley Farnham of Stockton, Jane Kamarados and Dorthea Kelly, both of New Port Richey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Black; six brothers: Samuel, Edward, George, Charles, Norman and Herbert Marsh; and two sisters: Ella Luce and Stella Moon.

PJ: Aug. 1973: Stockton: Mrs. Ethel May Brevoort, 79, of 5318 Avalon Drive, Murray, Utah, formerly of the Stockton-Centralia area, died Saturday morning (Aug. 18, 1973) in the Midgley Manor Rest Home in Murray.
Mrs. Brevoort was born April 20, 1894 in West Point, NY, the daughter of Isaac and Susie Stewart Williams. On July 29, 1914, she married Harry Floyd. Brevort in Stockton. He died in September 1934. Survivors include a son, Willis E. Brevoort, Detroit, Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. Louise Poda, Detroit, and Mrs. Genevieve Adams, Murray, Utah, with whom she resided; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Hilda Gunn, Fort Montgomery, N.Y. BRIDENBAKER PRUVOST

Georgette Pruvost Bridenbaker, 87, of 3983 Waterman Road, died at 8:50 p.m. Thursday (April 19, 2001) in her home. She was born April 26, 1923, in Montfermeil, France, the daughter of Georges and Jeanne Hugo Pruvost. She, along with her son, came to the United States as a French war bride in 1947. She had been employed as a housekeeper for Stanley Starr of Fredonia and previously was employed by the former National Worsted Mills. She was preceded in death by her son, Patrick Georges Raymond Bridenbaker, who was killed in action in Vietnam on July 5, 1967; and three brothers: Georges Albert, Jean Bastiste and Lucien Jean Pruvost. A private memorial service will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Stockton.

PJ: Mar, 1965: Stockton: Mrs. Della Briggs, 89, a resident of this community for 64 years, died Saturday evening (March 6, 1965). She was the widow of William R. Briggs, who died Jan. 7, 1963. Mrs. Briggs was born Nov. 10, 1875, in the Town of Gerry, the daughter of Milton and Estella Horth Link. She was a member of the Stockton Community Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Ernest, Bradford, Pa.; and Mrs. Hazel White, Frewsburg; one son, Allen Briggs, Stockton; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Julia Link Drue, Miami, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Frederick C. Carr, 91, formerly of Fredonia, Bear Lake, NY, and the Frewsburg Rest Home, died at 1:10 P.M. Saturday, (December 2, 2006) in the Lutheran Social Services. He was born September 24, 1915 in Franklinville, NY the son of the late Clair and Alice Steele Carr. Surviving are three sons; Paul (Marvene) Carr of Port Clinton, Ohio, H. Jay ((Sara) Carr of Grand Rapids, Mich., James ((Marlene) Carr of Charlotte, N.C., a daughter Karen (Joseph) Henry of Jamestown, six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and two brothers; Wayne Carr of Hinsdale, and Lester Kenfield. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen C. Carlson Carr whom he married July 3, 1939 and who died June 28, 1993, and a sister Katherine Galeak.

She was born Dec. 7, 1894 in the town of Pomfret, the daughter of Clarence & Dora PIERCE HOWARD. Mrs. Coe had been a Brocton area resident the past 19 years, & formerly lived in the town of Stockton Surviving are her husband, Rupert COE, whom she married Aug. 29, 1922; a brother Dollard HOWARD of Brockport, PA & 2 sisters, Frances KELLY of Brocton & Ella HOWARD of Stockton.
She was preceded in death by a son, Howard R. COE, who died in 1945; 2 brothers Chauncy & Clifford HOWARD, & 5 sisters: Jessie & Bertha KELLY, Gladys BUSH, Mable ANDERSON & Fannie BOGUE.

Jack H. Cole Jr., 67, of Stockton, died Monday (May 31, 2004) at home.
He was born Aug. 31, 1936, in Stockton, the son of Jack H. Sr. and Eunice Nelson Cole.
A 1954 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School, he was a lifetime resident of Chautauqua County. He was a past veteran of the Naval Reserve. He is survived by two sons, Kevin Cole, with whom he made his home, and John Cole of Dunkirk; a daughter, Jacqueline Draggett of Stockton; six grandchildren: Melinda Cole of Gerry, Rick Pierce of Sinclairville, Brook and Ashley Draggett, both of Stockton, and Alissa and John Cole Jr., both of Dunkirk; two brothers: Robert and Frederick Cole, both of Stockton; two sisters, Sandra Belovarac of Stockton and Shawnee Galbraith of Sinclairville. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant sister, Susan Cole.

Mr. Crandall was born Sept. 29, 1896 in Ellery, the son of Gardner and Clara Snooks Crandall. He was a retired Chautauqua County Highway Department employee. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Florence Foster of Centralia; two sons, Howard H. Crandall of Sinclairville, and Roland L. Crandall of Springfield, Ve.; seven grandchildren, Mrs. Carol Hammond of Ellery, Courtney Foster and Larry Crandall of Sinclairville, Jeffrey Crandall of Pensacola, Fla., Mrs. Bonnie Lou Miller of North Carolina, Mrs. Debbie Hall and James Crandall of Springfield, Va.; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Penhollow of Kennedy, Mrs. Isabel Evans of Celoron; seven brothers, Eben Crandall, Centralia, George Crandall, Bemus Point, Theodore Crandall of Busti, Kermit Crandall and Herman Crandall of Jamestown, Marion Crandall of Erie, Pa., and Wilmer Crandall of Sheffield Lake, Ohio. SINCLAIRVILLE — Alice H. Cranston, 78, of Heritage Village Health Care Center, Gerry, formerly of Sinclairville, died Monday (May 13, 2002) in WCA Hospital. She was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Ellington, the daughter of Roy and Daisy Hemenger Kelley.
She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Louis Cranston of Sinclairville, whom she married June 9, 1973; three daughters: Dineen Benson of Randolph, Eileen Love of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Maureen Mikula of Cassadaga; three sons: Lynn Post of Falling Waters, Laverne Post of Valatie, N.Y., and Lowell Post of Randolph; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Luoma of Ashtabula, Ohio. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Colleen Johengen, who died in 1991; a son, Lloyd Post in 1957; three brothers: Duane Kelley in 2000, Ernest Kelley in 1978 and George Kelley in 1976; and a sister, Arlene Tolman in 1978.

He was born April 19, 1902 in Hornell, the son of the late Winfield S. and Nellie Rodgers Dewey. Surviving are his wife, Angie Calkins Dewey; a sister, Virginia Stone of Rivera Beach, Fla.; a step daughter, Doris Buck of Falconer; two step sons, Richard H. Furlow of Mulberry, Fla. and Rollin V. Furlow of Sinclairville; 10 step grandchildren; and 11 step great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Dewey in 1936.

She was born July 7, 1909, in Stockton, daughter of the late Fredrick and Eleanor Raymond Cole. She is survived by a daughter, Colleen Crise of Fredonia; three sons: Glenn A. Dorman and Ralph C. Dorman, both of Stockton; and Gerald Dorman of Pompano Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren: Nancy Rowland and Janet Morrison, both of Fredonia, and Troy and Corey Dorman, both of Stockton; and six great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in deth by her husband of 65 years, Glenn A. Dorman, whom she married July 9, 1926, and who died Feb. 23, 1992; a grandson, Terry Crise, who died in 1968; a brother, Jack Cole; and five sisters: Clara Dye, Julia Bull, Lorena Warren, Doris Kilmer and Eleanor Titus.

RIPLEY - Ellen Bernice Cook Dorman, 84, of Ross Street, Ripley, died Saturday (Aug. 06, 2005) at home following an extended illness.
She was born March 1, 1921, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Eli and Elsie Lucas Cook. A Ripley resident for the past eight years, she had lived in Cassadaga and Stockton most of her life. She was a member of the first graduating class of the Cassadaga Valley Central School District. Survivors include her companion and caregiver, Everett Carr of Ripley, two sons: Donald R. Dorman of Cassadaga and Lawrence ''Larry'' Dorman of Sinclairville; two daughters: Carol A. Brown of Westfield and Dawn Marie Bazzle of Ripley; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Dorman; a son, Thomas H. Dorman, and a sister, Martha Cook. Burial will be in the Stockton Greenwood Cemetery in Stockton, NY.

On saturday, Mr Isaac W. DOTY of Stockton, was engaged in moving a building for Mr W.H. CIPPERLY near Moon Station. the horse that was hitched to the captan started to run, and Mr. DOTY stepped behind to stop him. In some manner he stumbled and fell, and in rising up, his head became on a level with a lever which struck him, crushing in his skull and killing him almost immediately. Mr DOTY was 75 and a respected resident of Stockton all his life. The funeral was largely attended on Monday.

Freda Terrill Edwards, 87, of Trilby, Fla., formerly of Sinclairville and Corry, Pa., died Sunday (March 20, 2005) in Hernando Pasco Hospice, Dade City, Fla.
She was born March 22, 1917, in Atlantic, Pa., the daughter of J. Barton and Eva Coulter McMaster. She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Gerald Edwards, whom she married Dec. 24, 1985; a daughter, Mona Lee Terrill Sischo of Rantoul, Ill.; three sons: Waid Terrill of Sinclairville, Robert Terrill of Stockton and Duane ''Hap'' Terrill of Choctaw, Okla.; 10 grandchildren:12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four stepdaughters: Eileen Watson and Ellen Burrows, both of Corry, Aleta Patterson of Union City, Pa., and Elaine Hanks of Cambridge Springs, Pa.; three stepsons: Arland and Duane Edwards, both of Greenwood, Del., and Dale Edwards of Corry; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband of 38 years, Kenneth W. Terrill, whom she married Oct. 27, 1937, and who died Sept. 18, 1975; a sister, Mabel Bridge; two brothers: Merlin and Clarence McMasters; and a foster sister, Embie McMasters.

William E. Etzweiler, 44, of Sheffield, died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday (April 3, 2004) in Beverly Health Care Kinzua Valley, Warren.
He was born Dec. 4, 1959, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Charles Etzweile and the late Agnes Steffel Etzweiler.
For the past 10 years, he was employed by Whirley Industries in Warren.
Besides his father of Ohio, he is survived by his wife, Brenda Burkhart Etzweiler; two daughters: Carol Braswell and Twyla Etzweiler, both of Louisiana; and five brothers and sisters. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Stockton.

Pamela Kelley Frary, whom he married May 23, 1975. Father of Scott D. Frary and Irene Musante, both at home, and Melissa Light of Dunkirk. Grandfather of Anastasia and Zoe Light. Brother of Lloyd Frary of Ashville, Ernest Frary of Jamestown and the late David Frary.

Benjamin Clair Galbraith, 73, of North Main St., died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004 in his home.
He was born April 10, 1931, in Leon, the son of Austin and Olga Heilman Glbraith.

D., the daughter of Raymond W. and Julie Stearns Tranmer. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Benjamin C. Galbraith, whom she married Sept. 2, 1950; a daughter, Deborah L. P.J. clipping undated: Stockton: Mar. 17: The funeral of Oscar A. Hall of Denton Corners was held yesterday afternoon from the Stockton Federated Church with Rev. Ernest Ruark officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery.
The death of Mr. Hall occurred Thursday evening at the age of 81 years He had been residing with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cross and family for the past eight weeks. Born in Sweden, Mr. Hall came to this country with his parents when but a small boy and with the exception of a brief stay in the Western states, he had spent the major part of his live in this county. He had been in failing health for several months.
Mr. Hall is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Milton M. Flanders of Washington D. C. and Mrs. Gifford C. Lawrence of Bemus Point; a son, Hugh M. Hall of Cassadaga, a sister, Mrs. Ida Berg of Brocton; a half brother, Alfred Hall of Brocton; a step brother, Oscar Carlson of Jamestown and six grandchildren.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Hall are highly esteemed residents of this place and have the best wishes of their many friends.

He was born March 7, 1917, in Jamestown, the son of Allen and Leo Briggs Harvey. A Chautauqua County resident his entire life, he attended Sinclairville High School. (CVCS) He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Esther McChesney Harvey, whom he married Sept, 4, 1942; a son, Ed Harvey of Sinclairville; a daughter, Linda Tilyou of Sinclairville; nine grandchildren: Dean Harvey of Concord, N.C., Michelle Lehnen of Greenwood, Ind., Ariel Monagle of Monroe, N.C., Kathy Perkins of Cassadaga, Wendy Tilyou of West Warwick, R.I., Steven Mels of Billings, Mont., Tracy Harvey of Camp Spear Head, Kuwait, Amy Meyers of South Dayton and Careen Mels of Utica; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mitchell R. Haskell, 50, of Willard Street, Jamestown, died Monday (March
6, 2000) as the result of injured received in an automobile accident on the Centralia-Ellery Road in Stockton.He was born Jan. 19, 1950, in Jamestown, the son of Richard Haskell and the late Mildred Emmott Haskell. A Chautauqua county resident his entire life, he was a 1969 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Surviving are two sons: Rudy Haskell of Phoenix and Brandon Bush of Randolph; two brothers: Steve Haskell of Stockton and Keith Haskell of Sacramento, Calif.; and a sister, Kathy Meabon of Stockton. Besides his mother he was preceded in death by an infant son, Lucas Haskell.

Joseph N. Henry III, 44, of Jefferson Street, died Friday (Feb. 25, 2005) in his home.
He was born March 20, 1960, in Dunkirk, the son of Joseph N. Henry Jr. and Priscilla ''Pat'' Barnes Meadors. Chautauqua County resident most of his life, he attend Frewsburg Central School and was employed through Labor Union Local 600 of Jamestown. He was a member of the Lakewood Celoron Loyal Order of the Moose 2587 and the Chautauqua Lake Fishing Association.
He enjoyed auto racing, especially NASCAR, and football. He was an avid Elvis fan.
Besides his father of Jamestown and his mother of Huffman, Texas, he is survived by a son, Joseph N. Henry IV of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters: Tammy Nieder of Huffman and Melinda Henry of Forked River, N.J.; and a brother, Jay Meadors of Baytown, Texas. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Stockton.
HIGGS
Leo D. Higgs, 90, of 11 North Main St., Stockton, died Saturday evening (Dec. 25, 1982) in WCA Hospital, where he had been a patient since Nov. 4.
A lifelong stockton resident, he was born Feb. 27, 1892 in Stockton, a son of Fred and Myra Annis Higgs. During World War I, he was employed in the steel plant in Dunkirk and later worked for many years at the Stockton Basket Co.
Higgs was a musician and played with many dance groups. He was a charter member of Stockton Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the former Stockton IOOF.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie B. Higgs, who died Sept. 30, 1972.
Surviving are nine cousins: Ruth Chapman of Blockville, Hazel Hankel and Lotta Hayward of Westfield, Ruth Cleland of Fredonia, Roy Higgs of Dewittville, Everett Higgs of Brocton, Clarence Higgs of Avon Park, Fla., Grace Staley of Fairview, Pa., and Hurley Higgs of Chautauqua County Infirmary, Dunkirk.

Jason G. Hite, 27, of Dunkirk died Saturday (March 8, 2003) the result of an accident in Fredonia. He was born July 14, 1975, in Jamestown, the son of Gregory Hite and Lynette Kelly-Paradiso.
He was a 1994 graduate of Dunkirk High School and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Besides his father of Fredonia and his mother of Sheridan, he is survived by two brothers: Jared Hite of Dunkirk and Brandon Hite of Fredonia; a sister, Alisha Hite of Fredonia; his stepmother, Ivana Hite of Fredonia; his stepfather, Patrick Paradiso; his maternal grandparents, Burton and Doris Kelly of Stockton; his paternal grandparents, Ronald Hite of Lakewood and Joyce Hite of Fredonia; his stepgrandmother, Margaret Hite; a stepbrother, Patrick Paradiso II; and a stepsister, Mary Catherine Paradiso.

SINCLAIRVILLE-Evelyn F. Holdsworth, 56, of R.D. 2 South Stockton-Centralia Road, Sinclairville, died today (October 7, 1981) in WCA Hospital, where she had been a patient since Sept. 15, 1981.
Born Dec. 10, 1924, in Youngsville, Pa., she was a graduate of Fredonia State College. Mrs. Holdridge had taught sixth grade in Cassadaga Central School System at Cassadaga and Sinclairville Elementary School and was in her 20th year of teaching. Surviving are two daughters, Vicki Crandall of Stockton and Valerie Holdsworth, attending school in Scranton, Pa., a son, Timothy Holdsworth, attending Buffalo State College; two grandchildren, Rennae and Dean Crandall of Stockton, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard A. Shaw of Sinclairville.

Howard. He was a 1949 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School, Everett was born, raised and continued to live at the family homestead until his death. She was born Aug. 27, 1916, in Corry, Pa., the daughter of the late James L. Safford and Jane D. Sparling Safford Hanan.
A Chautauqua County resident until 1999, she was a 1934 graduate of Westfield Academy. She was also a full-time homemaker, raising five children, Surviving are two daughters: Jane L. Way of Lockport and Ann Klemann of Dunkirk; two sons: Judson S. Lamphear of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Thomas M. Lamphear of Jackson, N.J.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jennie Savich of Jamestown.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John M. Lamphear, whom she married April 7, 1941, and who died Feb. 4, 1987; a son, John A. He was a deputy sheriff for 45 years and was one of the organizers of Chautauqua County Deputy Sheriffs Association. He also was a member and serving as vice president of the Chautauqua County Patrons Fire Relief Association at the time of his death. He had served as sexton of the Greenwood Cemetery for the past 45 years. He was born April 29, 1888 in the Town of Pomfret, the son of Charles and Anna Musewald Piersons. PJ: Aug. 1969: Bemus Point: G. (George) Leigh Rhinehart, 78, died at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 27, 1969) in Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk.
He was born Dec. 23, 1890 in the Town of Ellery, the son of Pearl and Hettie Waterman Rhinehart. He was a retired farmer and had lived most of his life in the Town of Ellery.
He was a member of the Dewittville Grange. He is survived by his wife, Lena M. Rhinehart; five sons: Walter L. Rhinehart, Smethport, Pa.; Seth A. Rhinehart, Jamestown, George M. Rhinehart, Ellington, and Robert E.. Rhinehart, Ellington, and Clifford R. Rhinehart, Bemus Point; a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Kesby, Bemus Point; a sister, Mrs. Hettie Cooper, Westfield; twenty-five grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Stockton.

Rhinehart, died Aug. 27 of this year. She was born in Denver, Colo., July 8, 1897, the daughter of Lawrence Marvin and Austa Arthur Murdock. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Kesby, Bemus Point; five sons, Walter L. Rhinehart, Smethport, Pa., Seth Rhinehart, Jamestown, George M. Rhinehart, Ellington, and Robert E. A resident of Jamestown for 50 years, he was born in Forest County, Pa., March 5, 1886, a son of George W. and Rosetta Smith Shay. He attended Fluvanna Community Church. His wife, the former Grace Elizabeth Hanes, died March 4, 1950 Survivors include two sons, Kenneth J. Shay of Ashville; and the Rev. Herbert L. STOCKTON - Ralph Shoemaker Jr., 86, of Stockton Hartfield Road, died Thursday (Aug. 26, 2004) in the Westfield Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 10, 1918, in Penfield, Pa., the son of Ralph and Elizabeth Salada Shoemaker Sr. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 serving in the European Theater in France and Germany. He is survived by a stepson, William Kline of Lenexa, Kansas; two brothers: Jack Shoemaker of Stockton and Bruce Shoemaker of Portland; and two sisters: Helma Ranney of Dewittville and Sarah Freeman of Mayville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Bull Shoemaker, whom he married in 1954, and who died in 1975; two brothers: Harry and Paul Shoemaker; and four sisters: Nettie Maynard, Mary Barber, Maude Shoemaker and Annie Kelly
SNELL NUTTALL
Ilah May Snell, 75, of Greenhurst Mobile Village, formerly of Falconer, died at 3:35 p.m. Friday (March 26, 1982) in WCA Hospital. She was the widow of Robert Charles Snell, whom she married March 2, 1929.
She was born May 19, 1906, in Lottsville, Pa., the daughter of Frank and Amy Robinson Nuttall, and spent her early years in the Steamburg area. Surviving is a brother, Frank A. Nuttall of Steamburg. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 14, 1954, and by a daughter, Ruth Ann Snell.
STORER
Albert ''Al'' W. Storer, 61, of Main St., died Thursday (Dec. 12, 2002) in Wellsville, the result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident. He was born April 24, 1941, in Jamestown, the son of the late Herbert and H. Evelyn Erikson Storer. A Chautauqua County resident most of his life, he attended Cassadaga Valley Central School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the U.S.S. Amphibian. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Rebecca Marsh Storer, whom he married May 6, 1967; three sons: Herbert E. and Thomas W. Storer, both of Stockton, and Andrew C. Storer of Philadelphia; four grandchildren: two brothers: JohnDaye Storer of Pittsford and Roger Storer of Trout Creek, Mont.; and two sisters: Anna May Tanner of Virginia Beach, Va., and Karen A. Condon of Bowdoinham, Maine.
TANNER
PJ: Sept., 1964: Robert C. Tanner, 63, of the Centralia-Stockton Road, Stockton, Chautauqua County Civil Defense director and former Chautauqua County supervisor, died Tuesday (Sept. 29, 1964) at WCA Hospital where he had been a patient five weeks.
Mr. Tanner also served as state deputy of civil defense for Western New York. He served three terms as supervisor for the Town of Stockton, retiring in July 1962 due to the increase in civil defense work, especially the federal shelter program. In 1951 he retired from the U.S. Navy after 30 years of service. He enlisted in the Navy in 1921 and advanced through grades to lieutenant commander. During World War II he was in charge of salvage of naval aircraft at the North Island Naval Base, Calif.
Mr. Tanner was born Dec. 13, 1900, in Stockton, the son of Charles and Mary Ferguson Tanner.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Anna Stewart Tanner; two daughters, Miss Shirley E. Tanner at home; and Miss Charlotte F. Tanner, Buffalo; one son, James R. Tanner, Jamestown; one sister, Mrs. Lottie Nichols, Cassadaga; and several nieces and nephews.
TURK
PJ: 3/29/1996: Stockton: Elverta H. Turk, 72, of 7347 Mill St., died today (March 29, 1996) in her home. She was born May 16, 1923, in Stockton, the daughter of Elverton and Augusta Smith Turk.
A Chautauqua county resident most of her life, she was a 1940 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School, earned a teaching degree from Allegheny College in 1944, continuing her education at the University of Buffalo, Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa., Chautauqua Institution and the State College at Fredonia.
In 1944, she was employed as a high school English and French teacher in the Brockway, Pa., school system; the Alexander, N.Y., school system from 1944 to 1949; and Cassadaga Valley Central School from 1949 until retirement in 1978. She was class adviser for various high school classes, the American Field Service, and Hi-Y.
A member of the Faculty Association, whe was active in Stockton Union School and Cassadaga High School reunions. A former member of the American Association of University Women from 1960 to 1993, she was a former vice president. She was a trustee of the Mary E. Seymour Memorial Free Library from 1960 serving as president for many years, and earlier served as secretary and was a member of the Stockton Community Church, where she was pianist and organist, Sunday School and Bible School teacher, and a member of OWANA.
She was also co-chairwoman of the Stockton Old Fashioned Days since 1988, was past co-secretary and member of the North Chautauqua County Retired Teachers' Association and was a member of the Valley Historical Society.
Surviving are seven cousins: Kenneth and Melvin Cranston of Brocton, Louis Cranston of Centralia, Owen Cranston of Ashville, Howard Turk of Lancaster, Lee Turk of Forestville and Norma Jean Smith Allen of North East. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Stockton
WAITE
PJ: Oct., 1979: Centralia: Ralph N. Waite, 71, of Centralia-Hartfield Road, died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday (Oct. 7, 1979) in Roswell Park Memorial Institute, Buffalo, where he had been a patient since Sept. 20.
He was born Oct. 20, 1907, in the town of Stockton, the son of the late Frank O. and Rachel Patterson Waite.
He had served several terms as councilman for the town of Stockton.
He was a member of Centralia United Methodist Church; Centralia Grange No. 612; and the Mayville Rifle Team; and a charter member of the Chautauqua County Lost Chord group. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and woodsman. Waite owned an excavating and pond building business.
Surviving are his wife, the former Cora Harris, whom he married June 1, 1931; three sons, Walter A. Waite, Lawrence M. Waite of Centralia, and Frank H. Waite of Binghamton; four grandchildren, Walter Jr., David Todd, Vicki and Lorraine Waite of Centralia; a sister, Esther Frederickson Anderson of Cassadaga; and a nephew. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Stockton.
WAITE HARRIS
9/14/2001 - Cora G. Waite, 91, of Dewittville died Friday (Sept. 14, 2001) in the Waters of Westfield. Born March 13, 1910, in Dunkirk, she is the daughter of Arthur and Rachel McLean Harris. A 1929 graduate of Dunkirk High School, she lived in Dewittville for more than 60 years. Surviving are three sons: Walter A. Waite of Cassadaga, Frank H. Waite of Binghamton and Lawrence M. Waite of Dewittville; seven grandchildren: David Waite of Frewsburg, Vicki Waite of Erie, Lorraine Waite of Hartfield, Robert Waite, Michelle Montgomery and Heidi Waite, all of Jamestown, and Heather Waite of Dewittville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Ralph N. Waite, whom she married June 1, 1931, and who died died Oct. 7, 1979; a grandson, Walter A. Waite Jr. on Aug. 7, 1987; two brothers: Kenneth and Edwin Harris; and a sister, Viola Amans. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Stockton.
WEISE PERSONS
PJ: 8/23/1963: Mayville: Mrs. Ella Ruth Persons Weise, 44, of Plank Road, died at 2:44 a.m. today (Aug. 23, 1963) at her home after a long illness. She was the wife of Robert P. Weise.
Mrs. Weise was suburban correspondent tor The Post-Journal for 14 years.
She was one of the few area residents to undergo open heart surgery. Her operation was performed in 1952 in Philadelphia.
Mrs. Weise was born Oct. 31, 1918 in Centralia, daughter of Elton E. and Maude Coe Persons. She attended school in Centralia and Stockton and was a 1937 graduate of Falconer High School and a 1940 graduate of the Bryant-Stratton Business Institute, Buffalo.
Besides her husband and father she is survived by one son, Craig Alan Weise; a brother, Morelle E. Persons of Bemus Point; a sister, Mrs. Roberta Scott of Lawrence, Kans.; six nieces, three nephews, an aunt and several cousins. A brother, Warren, died in 1911; her mother died in 1953; and a sister, Evangeline H. Putnam, died in 1962.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Freay Funeral Home, Mayville, The Rev. Everett F. Spring, pastor of the First Methodist Church, Mayville, will officiate. Burial will be in Stockton Cemetery.
WEISE
Robert P. Weise, 85, of Mayville, died Friday, April 21, 2006, at home.
He was born on Honeysette Road, Mayville, the son of Ezra E. and Ruth Parker Weise.
Bob was a dairy farmer, retiring a couple of years ago. He graduated from Mayville High School, the class of 1938. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II as a sergeant in the 777th Tank Battalion.He is survived gby a son: Craig (Patti) Weise of Fairport, two grandsons: James R. (Paige) Weise of Rochester and David Weise of Fairport; two great-grandsons: Brandon and Nathan; one brother: Hobart (Anabel) Weise of Mayville, nieces and nephews: Jane (Haskell) Yancey of Croghan, John (Margie) Weise of Mayville, Sandra (Patric) Killmartin of Mayville, Frank Weise and Ezra (Tammy) Weise of Mayville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Ruth Persons Weise.

Edwin F. Wright, 39, of RD 1, Sinclairville, died at 1:30 a.m. today (Nov. 20, 1962) at home. He was born in Gerry June 6, 1923, the son of Frank and Lillian Hall Wright.He was a member of the South Dayton American Legion Post and a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy from 1943 - 1945. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie Logue Wright; two sons, Edwin Wright and Roger Wright at home; two daughters, Anna Louise Wright at home, and Mrs. Donna Baker, Bear Lake; one granddaughter, Rhonda Faye Baker; his parents of Frewsburg; one brother Charles Wright, Erie, Pa.; two sisters, Mrs. Bernice Burrows, Celeron, and Mrs. Florence Ecklund, Frewsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
