From 1990 Memories of the Thousand Islands Sun, by the gracious permission of Jeanne Snow, editor. This issue from the collection of the Thousand Island Museum, courtesy of Janet Collins, librarian. The first seed house in Cape Vincent was built in 1879 by A.B. Cleveland of Adams who began the growing of peas on a large scale by furnishing seed to the farmers and then buying the crops. The large seed house was located at the foot of Market Street and was completely equipped. It had its own sorting rooms, elevators, printing shop and, for a time, a canning factory. The company did an enormous business, employing a small army of men and women. Photo from the Corbin River Collection.
