ALSTER TOWER

The Alster Tower, part of Hart Island's Boldt Castle complex, was originally opened in 1899. It was intended as a recreation hall, and called by some "The Play House." It rises 90 feet directly from the shore of the St. Lawrence River. Permission to use this and other photographs from the 2003-2004 Thousand Island Bridge calendar was granted by the Thousand Island Bridge Authority�
