SOUTHERN TIER

GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

Vestal, New York

Serving Broome County and Tioga County

and Northern Pennsylvania

Dedicated to the Pursuit of Family History and Genealogical Research

The STGS meets the first Thursday evening at 7 p.m. during the months of April through October at the Vestal Public Library at 320 Vestal Parkway East in Vestal, New York.  (Note: Our normal March and November meetings have been dropped.)

Each meeting features a subject that will help in a search for ancestors or in keeping track of them once they are found. The nine monthly meetings on various topics in genealogy or local history will keep one up-to-date on methods, materials, and sources of genealogical research.

STGS sponsors regular group trips to libraries and archives in New York State, and sometimes Pennsylvania, New Jersey, the New England States, Fort Wayne, IN, and Washington D.C.

STGS publishes a newsletter for its members and local libraries at least three times a year with news and articles to help in genealogical research. Members can have two free queries a year in this newsletter. Non-members are charged a small fee for queries.

If you wish to contact STGS by mail, the address is: STGS, PO Box 680, Vestal, NY 13850

STGS does not maintain a library of local histories or research materials. Our members do not have time to do research for others. Letters requesting research help are announced at the monthly meetings, and may be answered by members that are researching the same surname.

A card file is kept on particular persons that members have researched in the past. The file is not up to date, but has information that may be helpful to current researchers.  A computer file of surnames that active members are currently researching is also maintained.

There is an STGS member who will do local research for a fee.

Send  an Email message to Joe Titti  asking for his rates and services.
