Hello and Welcome to The Bronx!
My name is Richard Pettys.
I am the County Coordinator for Bronx County. Over the
next few weeks, you will see many changes to this page.
I apologize for the delay in updating this page.
Bronx County is one of the five counties (boroughs) that comrpise the City of New York. Bronx County (or "The Bronx", as it is commonly called) is the northernmost county in New York City is is across the Harlem River from Manhattan. It also lies across the East River from Queens. The Bronx is the home of such notables as Babe Ruth, Derek Jeter, Roger Clemens, Edgar Allen Poe and my great grandfather, William Howland Pettys. At one time, the Bronx was all farmland owned by a family named Bronks. The wealthy would travel to visit the Bronks family, and would simply say that they were going to the Bronks', and the name stuck. (this story is courtesy of Kathleen Pettys - a native Jersey Girl).
