If, for example, they were in what is now Erie County (formed 1821), note that from 1808 to 1821, this was Niagara County; from 1802 to 1808, it was Genesee County; from 1789 to 1808, it was Ontario County; from 1784 to 1789, it was Montgomery County; from 1772 to 1784, it was Tryon County; and prior to 1772 it was Albany County.
