Anne Frasier was born in April, 1893 to Charles Warren Frasier and Catharine A. Walsh, in East Boston, MA. Her mother died when she was about nine or ten years old leaving herself and a younger sister, Ethel (my grandmother), to be raised by her father who was a Steam Engine driver on the Boston Fire Dept.

Later they moved to Derry, New Hampshire, where Anne graduated from Pinkerton Academy. She then attended Bryant and Stratton's Business College in Boston, MA. She was for a time employed in the civil service at Boston. She joined the navy, and I believe she was a secretary for an Admiral at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

She married Edwin A. Norton who was attending artillery officers' training at the time of Anne's death. They did not have any children. They lived in Schenectady, New York, for a short period and moved to Manchester, NH, about two years before her death - she was 25 when she died in 1918. Anne was the first Yeowoman attached to the Portsmouth Naval Yard in Portsmouth, NH to die of influenza.

Anne was give a full military funeral at St. John's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth and was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery at Everett, MA. The Reverend Nelson Kellog officiated at the funeral. The Yeowomen who acted as pall bearers were: Jessie Perkins, Elsa R. Wendell, Mrs. Badger, Margaret Price, Beatrice Tuttle, Marion Condon, Florence O'Keefe, and Hope Akerman. A volley was fired over the grave by an armed escort from Portsmouth, NH.

I believe she was the first woman to receive full military honors on her death.
