Beatrice/Beatrix (Guilden) Byerly was married to Andrew Byerly who fought at the Bushy Run Battle (Westmoreland Co., PA) with Col. Henry Bouquet during the Revolutionary War. He was born in the same town as Beatrice Byerly.

Records of the family show that the pioneer heroine, warned by a friendly Indian of an impending attack of the tribes under Pontiac, war chief of the Ottawas, fled from their farm with her 3 day old baby and an older child reaching the seclusion of Fort Ligoner in safety. During the Revolutionary War era she served as a nurse at Fort Walthour near Harrison City, PA. A son of the Byerlys, Andrew served as a Captain during the War of 1812.

This was reported in the Pittsburgh Press on Sunday, February 5, 1939.

Mrs. Byerly is also listed in the Book of Patriots and I am researching the Byerly's to join the DAR.
