Jones, Elmer D. Elmer D. "Skinny" Jones, 86 died Thursday, October 8, 1992, in a Wichita Falls Hospital. Services were 2 P.M. Saturday at Aulds Funeral Home with the Rev. Wally Williams, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Archer City Cemetery. Mr. Jones was born March 11, 1906 in Pawnee City, Nebraska. He came to Oklahoma in 1910, setting in Marshall. He was a graduate of Marshall High School. He lived in various cities in Texas before coming to Archer City in 1942. He was a member of the Archer Masonic Lodge No. 708 AF & AM where he received the Golden Trowel Award, served as Worshipful Master and was serving as Senior Deacon. He was a member of the Archer City Volunteer Fire Department, where he had served as chief. He retired from Shell Oil Co. in 1967 after 40 years of service. He and Cleo James were married June 2, 1934 in Carthage, Missouri. She died September 14, 1988. Survivors include a step-daughter, Marthabelle James of Archer City; two nieces, Joyce Campbell of Arkansas City, Kansas and Joann Ross of Covington, Oklahoma. Pallbearers were Travis Nelson, Clifton Nelson, Curtis Nelson, Craig Nelson, Paul Parsley and Derrel Beesinger. Memorials may be made to the Elmer D. Hoover, Clarence Clarence Hoover, Sr., 85 of Holliday died Sunday, October 12, 1992 in Arlington. Services were 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Holliday with the Rev. Randy Potter, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Holliday Cemetery. He was born February 17, 1907 in Mountain Park, Oklahoma, moving to Holliday in 1939. He was a retired maintenance man from Sheppard Air Force Base and a member of First Baptist Church in Holliday. He son, Clarence, Jr. died in July. Survivors include two sons, Doyle of Trona, California and Elvin Jeremiah of Arlington; four brothers, Walter of Snyder, Oklahoma, Ernest of Sonoma, California and Perry and Otis, both of Oklahoma; six sisters, Mayme Chancellor of Inyokem, California, Myrtle Patterson of Alamagordo, New Mexico; Edith Dempsey of Blair, Oklahoma; Winnie Yokom of Phoenix, Arizona; Minnie Lucus of Lubbock and Glady West. 20 grandhcildren and eight great-grandchildren. Lacy, Vicki L. Vicki L. Lacy, 37, died Thursday, December 10, 1992, in a Vernon hospital. Services were 2 p.m. Friday at First Assembly of God with the Rev. Scott Olson officiating. Burial was in Eastview Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home. Mrs. Lacy was born February 2, 1955 in Olney. She had lived in Vernon for six years. She was a member of First Assembly of God. She and Carl Lacy were married June 22, 1974 in Hart. Survivors include her husband; a son, Cally of Vernon; a brother, Alton Stanford of Vernon; a sister, Debbie Collier of Vernon; and her grandmothers, Alta Stanford of Archer City and Lucille Stone of Cross Plains. Foley, William J. William Jack Foley, 66, died Thursday, May 6, 1993, in a Wichita Falls nursing home. Graveside services with military honors were 2 p.m. Monday in Fairmount Cemetery in San Angelo Arrangements were under the dirction of Ownes & Brumley Funeral Home. Mr. Foley was born November 6, 1926 in San Angelo where he lived most of his life. He had lived in Wichita Falls for six years. He retired after 26 years as a chief gunners mate with the Navy. He was a Baptist. Survivors include a brother, Wesley of San Angelo; and four sisters, Nina Canada of San Angelo, Irene Addison of Holliday, Bettye Thomas of San Antonio and Donna Wortham of Wichita Falls. Kennedy, Kellen L. Kellen L. Kennedy, 63, died Friday, May 7, 1963, in her home. Services were 3 p.m. Monday at Crestview Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Larry Shields, associate pastor of Faith Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Hampton-Vaughan Funeral Home. Mrs. Kennedy was born November 9, 1929 in Doans Crossing. She had lived in Wichita Falls since 1951. She graduated from School of Nursing at Midwestern State University in 1948. She was a registered nurse before retiring from Wichita General Hospital. She was a member of Highland Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Howard and Harold, both of Wichita Falls; three sisters, Lila Terry of Altus, Oklahoma, Linda McDuffy of Saginaw, and Shirley Payla of Sherman; five brothers, J.A. Vieth, Henry J. Henry J. Vieth, 96, of Scotland died Thursday, May 6, 1993, in a Wichita Falls hospital. Prayer services were 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home. Services were 10 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Scotland with the Rev. Christopher Davis, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Windthorst, officiating. Burial was in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery. Mr. Vieth was born November 21, 1896 in Willie, Iowa. He was a longtime Scotland resident and a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and a former member of Knights of Columbus. He and Louise Ermis were married January 17, 1933. She died in October 1992.
Coffelt, Cleburne Cleburne Coffelt, 56, died Tuesday, April 20, 1993, in an Oklahoma City hospital. Graveside services were 10 a.m. Saturday in Sturgeon Cemetery with Ed Frodyma officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home. Mr. Coffelt was both January 11, 1937 in Archer City where he was a lifetime resident. He served in the Marines from 1954 until 1958 and was an oil field worker. Survivors include his brother, J.P. of Archer City; and a sister, Lillie Baughman of Archer City. Carpenter, Donna Donna Carpenter, 42, died Sunday, April 25, 1993, in her home. Services were 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Holliday with the Rev. Randy Potter, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Throckmorton Cemetery under the direction of Hampton-Vaughan Funeral Home. Mrs. Carpenter was born August 3, 1950 in Olney. She was a 1968 graduate of Throckmorton High School. She was an accounting clerk for Western Supply and a member of First Baptist Church of Holliday. She was a very active homeroom mother for both of her children at Holliday High School. She and Ron Carpenter were married August 1, 1970. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Lesly Brewer of Biloxi, Mississippi and Stacey of Holliday; six sisters, Mary Nell Rodgers of Olney, Jo Ann Phillips of Throckmorton, Betty Corn of Wichita Falls, Dianna Manuell of Wellington, Bessie Hitch of Arlington, and Gina Brown of Seymour; and two bothers, Bob Hitch of Big Spring and Jerry Hitch of Breckenridge. Whaley, Douglas Douglas Leon Whaley, 14, of Holliday died Monday, May 31, 1993, from a drowning accident in Lake Kickapoo. Services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Holliday, The Rev. Randy Potter, pastor and Clint Sissom, youth director, officiated. Burial was in Holliday Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funderal Home. Douglas was born August 29, 1978 in Victoria. He had been a resident of Holliday since 1987. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was an active member of Christian Youth Fellowship. He had just graduated from Hollilday Junior High Thursday, May 27. He was a former member of Holliday Cub Scouts and had played midget football and basketball. He also was a former member of Burkburnett Boys and Girls Club. Survivors include his father, Glen D. Whaley of Holliday; his mother, Danetta Whaley of New Braunsfel; two brothers Daniel Wayne (Danny) and Desmond Andrew (Dessie) both of Holliday; grandparents, Wade and Emma Whaley of Holliday, Louie and Joyce Bullion of Corpus Christi and Betty of Nowhere, Arizona. Howell, Cleetis Cleetis Howell, 77, of Burkburnett died Sunday, June 27, 1993, in an Atoka, Oklahoma hospital. Services were 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church of Burkburnett with the Rev. Johnny Dowell, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Walters, Oklahoma Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett. Mr. Howell was born December 7, 1915 in Hartshorne, Oklahoma. He was an independent oil operator and had also owned the V & H Welding Co. in Walters since the mid-1940s. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Burkburnett and Odd Fellows Lodge of Walters. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He and Dorothy Smith were married February 25, 1984.
Bloodworth, Durward Durward Allen Bloodworth, Jr., 48, of Holliday died Thursday, June 24, 1993, in Houston. Services were at Gish Memorial Chapel in Frederick with the Rev. John D. Alexander officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery in southeast Manitou, Oklahoma, under the direction of Gish Funeral Home. Mr. Bloodworth was born April 7, 1945 in Corpus Christi. He and Sharon Goodner married May 12, 1984 in Henrietta. He was a former Manitou and Henrietta resident. He worked as a street supervisor for the city of Wichita Falls and as an auctioneer. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the Navy, and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Rodney Goodner and Greg, both of Wichita Falls, Michael and James, both of Waco, and Monte Goodner of Jacksonville, Florida; a daughter, Mandy Brandenburg of Grandfalls; his father, Durward Allen Sr. of Henrietta; three brothers, Edward of Terrell, Douglas of Pensacola, Florida and Mark of Henrietta; two sisters, Cynthia Ross of Little River and Ginger Ross of Henrietta; and four grandchildren. Hannah, Mary R. Mary Roderick Hannah, 76, of Archer City died Sunday, May 2, 1993, in a Wichita Falls hospital. Services were 2 p.m. Wednesday at Aulds Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby King, pastor of First Baptist Church of Knox City and the Rev. Bob Kitchell, pastor of First Assembly of God Church in Archer City, officiating. Burial was in Crestview Memorial Park. Mrs. Hannah was born October 29, 1916, in Sunset. She moved to Archer City more than 48 years ago. She and W. W. Roderick were married May 6, 1934 in Clay County. He died March 30, 1976. She and Albert Hannah were married May 24, 1978 in Wichita Falls. He died January 2, 1980. She was a member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church. She was a nurse at the State Hospital for 16 years, then at the Archer County Hospital and Archer Nursing Home. Survivors include a son, Carl Eugene Roderick of Richwood; two daughters, Deloris Beth McDougal of Denver City and Charotte Ann Clemons of Archer City; a stepson, Billy Ray of El Reno, Oklahoma; a sister, Jewel Garner of Wichita Falls; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, William B. "Bill"; two sons, Robert Wayne O'Neal of Holliday and Richard Lynn of Austin; three daughters, Patricia Sheppard of Graham, Nancy Dillard of Holliday and Ruthie Combs of Wichita Falls; a brother, R. Farmer, Hayden Hayden Farmer 84, died Monday, May 17, 1993, in his home in Olney. Services were Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Herb Marlow of Graham and the Rev. Gary Torian, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home. Mr. Farmer was born July 5, 1908 in Tarrant County. He and Edith Miller were married May 31, 1944 in Anahuac. He was an independent oil producer. He was a past director of North Texas Oil and Gas Association, a member of West Central Oil and Gas Association, past director of North Texas Rehabilitation Center, past member of Olney City Council, past member of Olney Cemetery Board and a member of Downtown Men's Bible Class for more than 40 years. He served in the Army Air Forces in World War II. He had lived in Olney for 75 years. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jim of Dallas and Lewis of Olney; three sisters, Eloise Dees and Hallie Farmer, both of Olney and Anne Clark of Lubbock; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pollock, Don L. Don L., "Pee Wee" Pollock, 36, died Monday, May 10, 1993, in his home in Archer City. Graveside services were 2 p.m. Thursday in Red Top Cemetery in Young County with the Rev. John Welter of Archer City officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home. Mr. Pollock was born October 10, 1956 in Olney and was a lifetime resident of Archer City. He was a 1976 graduate of Archer City High School, where he served as manager of the varsity football team. He also participated in woodworking in the shop class. He was employed by Hickman and Jansen Well Service for more than 10 years. He was a member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church. Pallbears were Mark Green, L. B. Boren, Jr., Ted Canada, Jack Davis, Robert Sebastian and John D. Martin. She and Dave Tatum were married December 28, 1955 in Megargel. She was a member of Megargel Methodist Church. She was cafeteria manager for Megargel Independent School District. She had been a resident of Megargel since 1934. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Glen of Megargel and Carl of Pampa; two brothers, Loyd McCuistian of Enterprise, Alabama and Lewis McCuistian of Hereford; a sister, Lois McCrory of Burleson; and a grandson. Morrison, T. E. T. E. Morrison, Jr., 74, of Scotland, died Sunday, May 16, 1993, from injuries received in a vehicle-tractor accident. Services were 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with Roger Deerinwater, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Archer City Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home. Mr. Morrison was born June 12, 1918 in Archer City and was a lifetime resident of Archer County. He was a member of First Christian Church, where he served on the board of directors and as treasurer. He had been employed by Wichita Falls State Hospital for more than 16 years in the maintenance department. He had been an oilfield pumper for Hassie Hunt Trust for more than 22 years. He was a racher throughout most of his life. He and Clara Smith were married November 1, 1977, in Wichita Falls. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sandra Huffman of North Archer County, Billie Neill of Archer City, and Jo Ann Wiggins of Norman, Oklahoma; three sons, Jerry and Gary, both of Archer City, and Edward Lee Steely of Mineral Wells; five brothers, Claude A of Archer City, Sanford of Wolfe City, Don of Stratford, Oklahoma, J.D. Morrison of Fort Worth and Reuben of Evansville, Indiana; two sisters, Sharon Stevens of Canyon and Eolene Withers of McAlester, Oklahoma; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Key, Nettie Nettie Key, 98, died Sunday, May 16, l993, at her home in Archer City. Services were 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church with Roger Deerinwater, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Archer City Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home. Mrs. Key was born November 30, 1894 in Runnels County. She moved to Archer County in 1918. She was the oldest active member of First Baptist Church where she had been the director of the nursery for many years. She also did ironing for the community for many, many years. Tanner, Elsie Elsie Tanner, 101, of Archer City died Saturday, May 15, 1993, in an Archer City nursing home. Services were 2 p.m. Monday at Aulds Funeral Home with Roger Deerinwater, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Archer City Cemetery. Mrs. Tanner was born February 2, 1892 in Greenville. She moved to Archer County in 1913. She and William A. Tanner were married in 1919 in Jean. He died June 23, 1964. She was the oldest living member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two daughters. Ima Reid on December 4, 1987 and Lily Jo Johnson on January 9, 1978 and one son Bobby Dean Tanner on April 22, 1952. Pallbearers were Bill Johnson, Robert Johnson, Terry Tanner, Odie Lohman, Tom Morrow and Mike Morrow. Survivors include a daughter, Manon Morrow of Archer City; two sons, William A. of Denver, Colorado and Charles H. of Dallas; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home of Vernon. Mrs. Parmer was born April 7, 1907 in Archer City. She and Doyle Parmer were married December 7, 1924 in Archer City. He died February 15, 1975. She moved to Webbers Falls, Oklahoma in 1957 and later moved to Sherman. She was a member of Wood Street Church of Christ in Sherman. Marshall, Winifred Hunter Winifred Hunter Marshall, 90, formerly of the Wichita Falls area, died Wednesday, May 12, 1993. Memorial services were 2 p.m. May 14, 1993 at Presbyterian Village North. She was born in El Reno, Oklahoma and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. She taught English in Oklahoma and Texas. Throughout her life she helped people with her generosity and kindness. Her warmth was matched only by her clever wit and the twinkle in her eyes. Survivors include her children, Dan H. Weinzapfel,Joseph Joseph Michael Weinzapfel, 98, of Muenster died Monday, May 24, 1993, in Saint Richards Villa in Muenster. Services included a rosary Tuesday, May 25, at McCoy Funeral Chapel in Muenster, followed by a vigil on Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday, May 26, 1993, at Sacred Heart Church. Bishop Joseph DeLaney, bishop of Fort Worth diocese, was the main celebrant and presider. Concelebrants included Bishop Charles Grahmann of the Dallas diocese, retired Bishop Thomas Tschoepe of the Dallas diocese, Msgr. Thomas Weinzapfel, Rev. Joseph Weinzapfel, Rev. Victor Gillespie, OSB, pastor Sacred Heart Church and Rev. Camillus Cooney, OSB, associate pastor. Visiting priests were invited to concelebrate. Fourth degree Knights of Columbus provided an honor guard. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. Mr. Weinzapfel was born June 5, 1894 in Windthorst the son of the late Henry John and Agnes Reisdorf Weinzapfel. He married Julia Christina Meurer on October 3, 1916 in Scotland. She preceded him in death on May 30, 1980. He was president and chairman of the board of Muenster State Bank for many years. He was a community leader and member of the Sacred Heart Parish, Saint Joseph's Society, Knights of Columbus and Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. Mr. Weinzapfel had lived in Muenster since 1923. Survivors include four daughters, Agnes Hellman of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dora Jackson of Azle, Juanita Bright of Muenster and Mary Elizabeth Birden of Denton; three sons, Msgr. Thomas W. Weinzapfel of Dallas, Rev. Joseph Weinzapfel, Jr. and Henry G. Weinzapfel, both of Muenster; two sisters, Margaret Rasch of Houston and Alice Hemmi of Scotland; one brother, William V. Weinzapfel of Windthorst, 31 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia, parents Henry John and Agnes Weinzapfel, one son Robert, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pallbears were grandsons. Mr. Britton was born January 28, 1917, in Little Rock, Ark. He moved to Texas when he was 12 years old. He received his bachelor's degree from Texas College of Mines, now the University of Texas - El Paso. He was a major in World War II and served overseas with the Air Transport Command as director of supply and service. He received his law degree from the University of Texas and moved to Houston in 1947. He practiced law in the Garden Oaks and Oak Forest areas for 35 years. He served as secretary of the Houston Bar Association and was a Harris County precinct judge for 20 years. She grew up in Duncan where she attended Lee Elementary and Duncan High Schools. She married Edward C. Meurer in December of 1969 in Lawton. Mrs. Meurer moved to Lawton in 1967 from Duncan. She had worked for Lawton Public Schools and Macs 7 - 12 Grocery. She was a Gold Star Mother and member of Sixth and Arlington Church of Christ. She had lived in the Wichita Falls area and Arizona all her life. She was a founding member of the First Christian Church of Scottsdale, Arizona. She was a past member of the 1930 Study Club of Wichita Falls, Woman's Forum and Amnity Club of Archer City. She and Claude C. Cowan Sr. were married September 16, 1923 in Seymour. He died in 1963. Garrett, Minnie Minnie May Garrett died Monday, December 14, 1992. She was a resident of Wood Convalescent Center. She worked all her life, retiring as a nurses aide in Dallas. She was born January 10, 1908 in Paris, Texas. May moved to Archer County at 10 years of age. She married Dick Garrett in 1924. He died in 1984. May moved to Dallas in the early 1940's. She then returned to Archer City in 1985. She is survived by two sons, Stanley Garrett of Archer City and Eugene Garrett of Farmers Branch; three brothers, J.V. Spruiell, Euell Euell Lehmon Spruiell, 79, a former administrator at several area schools, died Sunday, February 14, 1993, at his home in Iowa Park. Services were 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church of Iowa Park with the Rev. Ray Hennigh, pastor of University United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls, and the Rev. Mike Brister, youth minister of First Baptist Church at Center, officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home. Mr. Spruiell was born June 14, 1913 in Iowa Park. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Petrolia and the Glory Choir at First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls. He was a member of Atlers Sunday school class at Lamar Baptist Church in Wichita Falls. He and Velma Kathryn Caywood were married April 10, 1937, in Iowa Park. She died March 23, 1991. Mr. Spruiell retired in 1979 after 44 years of teaching and administration. He was a teacher at Van Junior High and in Pottsboro; a principal in Valley View, Henrietta, Stoneburg, Petrolia, and Waurika, Oklahoma. He was a superintendent for the Megargel Independent School District. He was a graduate of Iowa Park High School; attended Wichita Falls Junior College and received his master's degree in science and math from Texas Tech University. He was a member of the Valley View Ex-students Association and the Friendly Door Senior Citizens Center. He worked with the Boy Scouts of America for many years and was president of a grief support group in Wichita County. He served on the Nortex Regional Planning Commission and Wichita Falls parks and recreation board. He was a veteran of the Air Force and served as a glider flying instructor during World War II. His son, D. Lynn, died in 1992. Survivors include four sons, E. Lance, of Wichita Falls, W. Lehman of Matthews, North Carolina, E. Lynel of Thousand Oaks, California and D. She attended school in Archer City and had lived in Wichita Falls until 1968, when she moved to Azle. She had worked at Wichita Falls State Hospital. She and James Lewis Starr were married in 1941. McLemore, L.D. 'Butch" Services for L.D. "Butch" McLemore were Wednesday, September 9, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Archer City with Rev. John Taylor of First United Methodist Church of Decatur and Rick Caufhold, minister from Birmingham, Alabama officiating. Interment was in Archer City Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home. He died Monday, September 7, 1992. Mr. McLemore was born April 2, 1943. He was a graduate of East Texas State University with a bachelor degree in education. He coached for over 15 years. After coaching, he was an independent insurance agent for the State Farm Bureau for a short time before becoming an independent oil producer. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a former member of Archer City ISD Board of Trustees, serving as a past president. He was past president of the Wildcat Booster Club and a former little league baseball coach. He was also a current board member of the Archer City Country Club. Survivors include one daughter, Mitzi of Archer City; two sons, Mitch of Munday and Matt of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his mother, Louise McLemore of Archer City; one sister, Neva Hays of Olney; his grandmother, Bernice Blankenship of Seymour, and one granddaughter, Marni Saige McLemore of Munday. Hines, Charlene Charlene Kinder Hines, 83, died Thursday, February 4, 1993, in her home. Services were at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Isaac Butterworth, pastor, and Dr. Earle W. Crawford, pastor emeritus, officiating. Burial was in Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Hampton-Vaughan Funeral Home. Mrs. Hines was born June 22, 1909 in Cresson. She moved to Archer County in 1918 and had lived in the North Texas area since then. She graduated from Archer City High School in 1927. She went to Kidd Key Music Conservatory in Sherman and had also attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth at the Music Conservatory. She has been a member of the choir at First Presbyterian Church since 1931. She was a prominent soloist in Wichita Falls and a charter member of Wichita Falls Harmony Club. She was the pianist and organist for Hines Mortuary in Wichita Falls in the building that is now the First Baptist Church Chapel. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and retired from piano teaching in 1983. Survivors include a daughter, Fayne Thompson of Lake Charles, Louisiana; a son, Paul Jr. of Pascagoula, Mississippi; a brother, Royal C. Brown, Lee Lee Brown, 76, of Coleman died Wednesday, January 13, 1993, at an Abilene nursing home. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Posey officiating. Burial followed at Coleman Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Mr. Brown was born January 21, 1916 in Brown County, the son of the late Frank and Lillie A. Williams Brown. He grew up and attended school in Burkett. He was a lifelong resident of Brown and Coleman Counties, serving in the United States Army during World War II. On December 1, 1945, he married Pauline Watson in Coleman. He was employed by the City of Coleman for 33 years and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Alley, James F. James "Jimmy" F. Alley, 66, died Monday, August 31, 1992, in a Wichita Falls hospital. Services were 3 p.m. Thursday at Hampton-Vaughan Funeral Home with the Rev. John Hare, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church and the Rev. Herb Smith, pastor of Northwest Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Crestview Memorial Park. Mr. Alley was born March 20, 1926 in Wichita Falls, where he was a lifetime resident. He served in World War II with the 330th Infantry Division, Company K in the Army. He had been owner and operator of Alley's Generator Shop since 1950. He was a life member of American Legion Post No. 169, where he was past commander and past executive secretary. Mr. Spradlin was born January 21, 1895 in Hill County. He came to Archer County in 1909, and was the oldest resident of Holliday. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Archer County Historical Society. He was a member of the Senior Citizens Center in Holliday and was an avid bowler and dancer. He had served in World War I and was a retired oil field pumper. Berend, Paul Paul Berend, 76, a leader in the North Texas agricultural community and partner in Berend Brothers, died Sunday, October 18, 1992, at his home in Wichita Falls. A Christian wake was held 7 p.m. Monday at Hampton-Vaughan Funeral Home. Services were 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Windthorst with the Rev. Raphael DeSalve officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Berend , a lifelong area resident, was born December 3, 1915 in Windthorst. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and a graduate of Sebiaco Academy in Arkansas. In 1939, he and brother Lawrence Berend took an $800 bank loan and began a hay-hauling business, servicing the region's many dairy farms during a drought. Today, Berend Brothers is a diversified livestock production and farm-and-ranch supply business with annual sales exceeding $20 million. In 1982, Berend received the Wichita County Friend of 4-H Award in recognition of fund-raising efforts for the construction of the 4-H auditorium. He had also served as president of the Wichita County 4-H Livestock Association. Berend Brothers sponsored dairy shows in Windthorst from 1953 to 1974, from which the Dairy Herd Improvement Association took its beginnings. The first Berend Brothers store in Windthorst was a converted house owned by Paul's mother-in-law. When the store out grew the quarters, a 10-acre plot was purchased. The partnership's first hog and feeder cattle operation was established in the rear portion of the acreage. The business was incorporated in 1960, 21 years after it was established, when the second generation of Berends began assuming a management role. He had lived most of his life in Archer City. He and Janet Shields were married November 6, 1957 in Frederick, Oklahoma. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Archer Masonic Lodge No. 708 AF&AM where he was past worshipful master, Ira Jones American Legion Post No. 198 where he had served as finance officer and commander, and Elks Lodge of Wichita Falls. He was a member of Archer City Volunteer Fire Department for more than 20 years and a basketball referee for eight years. He was a former coach of youth baseball and football. He was a 1954 graduate of Archer City High School and attended Midwestern University until being called to the Army in 1957. He was Archer County tax assessor-collector for 12 years beginning in 1964. In 1976, he formed the partnership of E&S Drilling and Producing. He formed Stubbs Well Service in 1978, which he owned until his death. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lisa Smythe of Hewitt, and Lori Rutledge of Archer City; a son, Leslie of Archer City; two sisters, Joy Garrett of Hamilton, and Jan Hatch of Odessa; three brothers, Jay of Odessa and James and Leroy, both of Canyon Lake; and five grandchildren. Burkett, Jack Jr. Zack Thomason Burkett, Jr., 74, founder of Zack Burkett Co., one of the largest construction firms in the state, died Friday at his home in Graham. Mass was 3:30 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Douglas L. Alford SSC, pastor of Holy Spirit Episcopal Church; the Rev. Cecil D. James, vicar of St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Jacksboro; the Rev. Donald N. Kreymer, rector emeritus; and Dr. Dan Sebesta, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home. Burkett was born October 24, 1918 in Archer County. He was a 1936 graduate of Archer City High School and enrolled in the University of Texas at Austin. He and Lucile Walker were married on December 25, 1939 in Graham. She died in 1984. Burkett served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He earned a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering at UT and moved to Graham in 1946. He worked in the highway construction business before founding Zack Burkett Co. in 1958. He was president of Associated General Contractors of Texas in 1976 and highway division chairman of Associated General Contractors of America in 1981. He served on the Texas Industrial Commission. He was a director of the Graham National Bank and City National Bank in Wichita Falls. He was president of Graham Chamber of Commerce in 1971 and served three terms as president of Graham Industrial Association. He was president of Graham Little League and Senior League Baseball programs. He was a member of Holy Spirit Episcopal Church where he was a senior warden. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Billings of Flower Mound, and Sue Cocke of Spring; two sons, Jack III and Jim, both of Graham; two sisters, Madge Muehlberger of Wichita Falls and Dorothy Voss of Fort Worth; a brother, Ted of Archer City; and 10 grandchildren. She was a veteran of the Army nurse corps where she served as a captain in Europe during World War II. She was a graduate of North Texas University and Baylor University School of Nursing of Dallas. She and Milburn Goforth were married September 2, 1939 in Wichita Falls. He died October 22, 1971. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by children, Ann, Jan and Scottie. Survivors include one daughter, Elaine Abshire of Archer City; three brothers, E.J. Jinkins of Archer City, Wayland Jinkins and Jack Jinkins, both of Iowa Park; two grandchildren, Christie Mooney and Trish Goforth, both of Archer City; and one great-grandson, Bryan Mooney of Archer City. Ms. Goodwin was born March 4, 1928 in Baylor County. She had lived in Archer City since 1946, after living a short while in Mankins. She was a member of Mankins Baptist Church. Rodriguez, Charles Charles Rodriguez, 63, died Monday, November 23, 1992, at his home. Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Anthony officiating. Burial was in Albany Cemetery directed by Melton Funeral Home of Breckenridge. Mr. Rodriguez was born December 18, 1928 in Albany. He married Billie Ray (Flossie Ray's daughter) on August 15, 1957 in Archer City. He had been a lifelong resident of Albany and was an independent oil hauler and a rancher. He served as an ASCS County Committeeman for 20 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Albany and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He was preceded in death by a brother, J. F. Rodriguez in 1963. Survivors include his wife, Billie of Albany; two daughters, Tina Riley of Albany and Georgia Rodriguez of San Angelo; two sons, Charles Wayne Rodriguez of Paris and Stan Rodriguez of Albany; two sisters, Alexene Garlitz of Albany and Many Eva Black of Abilene; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Budd, Millie Millie Budd, 62, of Brenham died in her home on Monday, December 28, 1992. Ms. Budd was born in Archer City on November 23, 1930, the daughter of the late Fred Budd and Mildred Whittaker Budd, who died on November 9, 1992. Millie graduated from Wichita Falls High School and from Texas Womens College in Denton. She was a journalist and employed by the Houston Post for many years. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home. Mrs. Schreiber was born November 17, 1910 in Windthorst, where she was a lifetime resident. She and Ernest A. Schreiber were married September 13, 1934 in Windthorst. She was a homemaker and member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she was in the choir. She was a honorary 50-year member of the Christian Mother's Society. She was an avid quilter and had received various awards for her quilting. She also volunteered many hours helping with activities for the residents of the nursing home. She lived in Wichita Falls most of her life. She and her husband, Harry Vogtsberger, owned Vogtsberger Grocery for many years. He died January 30, 1969. Burial was in Westover Cemetery under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home. Mr. Hall was born April 6, 1907, in Gainesville. He and Billye Wells were married on May 5, 1934 in Olney. He was a retire gauger for Arco Oil Co. where he was employed for 30 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 790 and a member of Billye's Melody Five band for seven years. He also played in may jamborees and nursing homes. Before moving to Archer City a year ago, he had lived in Olney for 57 years. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Barbara Walker of Olney and Sherry Stanford of Archer City; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Bell, Curtis Curtis A. Bell, 86, died Saturday, February 28, 1992, in a Wichita Falls nursing home. Services were 2 p.m. Monday at Aulds Funeral Home with Roger Deerinwater, pastor First Baptist Church and Rev. Andy Graham, pastor of Scotland Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Archer City Cemetery. He was born October 16, 1905 in Calhoun, Missouri. He moved to Archer City in 1968. He and Ruby Baggett Carter were married February 20, 1968 in Archer City. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He retired as a field foreman with Mobile Oil Corp. after 37 years. Pallbearers were Jeff Bell, Kent Bell, Keith and Danny Moore. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Walter of Weatherford and Harold of Wichita Falls; a brother, David of Levelland; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Inman, A. J. Services for A.J. Inman, 71, of Holliday were 2 p.m. Monday in Holliday Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Potter, pastor of First Baptist Church of Holliday and Gil Peters, minister of Holliday Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home. He died Friday, March 20, 1992, in a Wichita Falls hospital. Mr. Inman was born July 4, 1920 in Kirkland and had lived in Holliday since 1963. He grew up in Iowa Park and lived in the North Texas towns of Seymour, Jayton and Munday. He retired in 1981 as a section foreman, serving 39 years with Burlington Northern Railroad. He and Cora Lee Evans were married February 19, 1945 in Wichita Falls. He was a member of the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees, Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way employees, a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4863 and Burlington Northern Veterans Association. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Wayne of Holliday and Jerry of Iowa Park; a daughter, Elizabeth Box of Lakeside City; two sisters, Nina Martin of Iowa Park and Vivian Sanders of Kennedale; and seven grandchildren. Hart, Roger Vernon Roger Vernon Hart, 79, died Monday in a Lubbock hospital. Services were 2 p.m. Friday at Aulds Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Deerinwater officiating. Burial was in Archer City Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home. Hart was born Mar. 19, 1909, in Archer City, where he lived all his life. He was a Mason. He and Myrle Traner were married in March 1938. She died in 1980. Survivors include three daughters, Lois Haigood of Plainview, Betty Magninie of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Lucile Kohart of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.; two sisters, Anita Fisher Lind and Helen Irving, both of California; and nine grandchildren. Burial was in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home. Hemmi was born Jan 3 1896, in Colorado County. He and Katherine Vieth were married Oct. 25, 1926, in Scotland. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus. he was a World War I veteran of the Army. Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Evelyn Lindeman of Scotland and Bernadine Berend of Windthorst; two sons, Bill and Arthur, both of Scotland; two sisters, Leona Hemmi of Wichita Falls and Anne Muenster of Dallas; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Pryor, Bertha E. Bertha E. Pryor, 85, of Holliday, died March 12 in Wichita Falls. Services were March 15 at the Assembly of God church in Holliday with the Rev. Manuel Hankins, sectional presbyter, Gil Peter, minister of Church of Christ in Holliday, and the Rev. Weldon Griffith, pastor of Shady Grove Community Church in Lake Nocona, officiating. Burial was in Crestview Memorial Park in Wichita Falls under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home. Pryor was born July 18, 1903, in Adairsville, Ga., and had been a resident of this area since 1926. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church. Survivors include one son, Fred of Chico, Calif.; one daughter, Fran Moore of Wichita Falls; two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Pryor and Mrs. Lois Todd, both of Ambrose; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Ford, Garnett (Henry) Jefferson Garnett Jefferson Ford, 83, a former grocery store owner and civil service retiree died December 19, 2000, at a Fort Worth Hospital Garnett Ford was born December 18, 1917, in Burkburnett, Texas, during the oil boom and also lived in Electra and Wichita Falls in his youth. He began working at the age of twelve and later graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1936. After graduation, his employment included Safeway, Day and Night Food Store and Mead's Bakery. In 1943, while in Edmond, Oklahoma, with Safeway, Garnett met and later married Iona Graham in Yukon, Oklahoma and they made Wichita Falls their home. In 1947, he became the owner of a grocery store, Ford's Grocery and Market, in Holliday, for 20 years. During this time, he also purchased a movie theater in Holliday. later, he became employed by civil service and retired from Sheppard Air Force Base Commissary. Mr. Ford was a member of the Mason's for 53 years, Eastern Star and Maskat Temple Shriners. He also was a charter member and past president of Holliday Lion's Club. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Holliday, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Iona Graham Ford. Mr. Ford is survived by his daughter, Phyllisjean Van Pelt, and her husband, James R. Van Pelt, of Fort Worth. Texas; one granddaughter, Lauren Van Pelt and her husband Tracy Anderton of Arlington, Texas; one great-granddaughter, Taylor Caroline Anderton of Arlington, Texas; and sister, Francine Hohlmann of Edmond, Oklahoma and numerous nieces and nephews, family members and friends. Jones, Johnie Joseph Johnie Joseph Jones, devoted husband and father, passed away at Rolling Meadows, July 26, 2000 after battling a long illness. Services will be held at First Baptist church in Holliday, Saturday, July 29 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Darryl Sewell, pastor officiating. He will be laid to rest in Crestview memorial park. Services are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home. Mr. Jones was born July 3, 1918, and was a native of Graham, Texas. he was a resident and active member of the community of Holliday, Texas for over 50 years. He retired in 1989 from Perkins & Cullum Oil company after 40 years of service. Mr. Jones bravely served his country during World War II in the Pacific, where he was a proud member of the 7th Division Army infantry. During his service of duties, he received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal with two bronze stars, a Good Conduct Medal, a Victory Ribbon and an Overseas Service Bar. He was commander of the American Legion and was an active member of the Holliday Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He is survived by his loving wife, Opal Jones and three children, Alton Jones of Denton, Texas, Karen Turnbow of Lake Dallas, Texas and Opal Esquer of Prosper, Texas. he was grandfather to nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The family will be at the funeral home, Friday evening 7 to 8 p.m. for visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations will be appreciated to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice of Wichita Falls. She was a member of First Baptist church of Holliday and a member of WMU at First Baptist and a Volunteer for ten years with the Senior Citizens. She was also a member of the Hospice Group and a member of the Archer Co. Home Extension Agency (Kickapoo). She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.C. Hurt in july 1987, and a grandson, Glen Austin in Dec. 1988, and a sister, Hazel Marie Carr. Survivors include her mother, Ruth M. Jones of Holliday; two daughters, Gyla Austin of Holliday and Linda Lou Langley of White Oak, Texas; a son Gary Frank Hurt of Texas, a sister, Verba Lee Seales of Holliday; a sister-in-law, Laquita Hurt of Amarillo; and five grandchildren, Jamie Glenn Austin of Holliday, Shawn Hurt of New Jersey, Kristy Kamar of Grapevine, Texas, Jeremy Langley of Big Sandy, Texas, and Katrina Webb of Amarillo. Pallbearers will be Ralph Surles, John Pearson, Larry Denny, Gary Schaefer, Alvin Parrish and B.W. Stone. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Stallcup, Oscar John Rosary for Oscar John Stallcup, 77 were held Friday in St. Boniface Catholic Church with church pastor Rev. Bartholonew Landwermeyer officiating. The funeral mass was held Saturday morning in the church under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home. Burial was in St. Boniface Cemetery in Scotland. Mr. Stallcup died Wednesday in a Wichita Falls hospital. He was born Oct. 28, 1910 in Taylor, Texas and had been a resident of Scotland most of his life. He was a rancher, dairyman, and heavy equipment operator for Archer County. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Scotland, and a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He and Seraphia Kliegel were married Dec 28, 1936 in Scotland. Survivors include his wife, Seraphia, of Scotland; three sons, joe and harold Stallcup and James Stallcup of Wichita Falls; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
