Meetings Details

DPS meetings are held on the second Saturday of each even-numbered month at Hermon Slade House, part of the Anglican Retirement Village on the corner of Old Northern and Castle Hill Roads, Castle Hill. These meetings run from 1.00pm to 4.00pm and there is no charge.

The format of meetings is usually along the lines of a news session, then a presentation on a particular topic, followed by a chat over a cup of tea. After tea we generally have an open questions and answers session in which all participate.

The schedule for the 2015 meetings is:

December 12th, 2015	Christmas meeting There will be a short, light-heart and hopefully entertaining talk. After that we will have our Christmas tea which is as usual bring a plate.

The Sydney DPS Mailing List

The DPS operates a mailing list using the ROOTSWEB umbrella. It enables many more people to participate in DPS discussions than just those who live locally and are able to attend meetings.

Objectives of the DPS

The aims of the Sydney Dead Persons Society include the following admirable objectives:-

to be a support group for those who use computers and the Internet in their genealogical research;
to provide a forum for users of the internet to meet and learn from others;
to demonstrate in "hands on" mode how modern technology can assist in family history research and documentation;
to assist members to harness the features of computers, hardware and software for the purposes of genealogical pursuit; and
fun and friendship.

The Dead Persons Society in Sydney is an informal self-help group of amateur family historians and genealogists who use (or are thinking of using) the Internet.

The general consensus seems to be that the Sydney Dead Persons Society's main objective should be "to give support in the Sydney and nearby areas, to genealogists using computers and especially those wanting to access electronically readable data via the Internet.."

The feeling is that the Sydney DPS should remain loose and informal, with no membership fees, council, board or bureaucracy. This is after all, supposed to be fun !
