The ROBERT VITLER / ESTHER QUINCE line

Robert VITLER was baptised at Battle, SSX in 1839, believed to be the son of Robert VITLER and Eliza Ann (nee ELDRIDGE). Details of his arrival in Australia, or any details about Esther QUINCE's origins, are currently unknown to me. However, the family of Robert and Eliza VITLER is shown in the 1851 UK Census as still living in Battle, so it is believed that Robert arrived in Australia in his late teens or early twenties. There is no evidence that either his parents or siblings ever came to Australia.

Robert and Esther married at St. James Church of England in Binda, NSW on March 1st, 1865. It is believed that Annie, at this time almost two years old, was their daughter as her birth was registered as VITLER rather than QUINCE.

There are 8 children of which we know:

                      marr: December 16th, 1879 at Binda, NSW
                        to: Charles Thomas SMITH
                      died: July 28th, 1945

2. John Robert - born: December 9th, 1865 at Binda, NSW marr: c1890 (registered at Cooma, NSW) to: Catherine PRIMMER died: December 12th, 1939 at Cooma, NSW

3. Harriet Esther - born: c1868 at Markdale, NSW marr: c1889 (registered at Ashfield, NSW) to: Samuel F C KIRCHNER died: May 19th, 1896 at Ashfield, NSW

4. George A - born: c1870 at Markdale, NSW marr: c1900 (registered at Yass, NSW) to: Elizabeth M YATES died: April 30th, 1939 at Yass, NSW

5. William Edward - born: c1872 at Markdale, NSW died: July 28th, 1882 at Throsby Creek, via Yass, NSW

6. Emma Jane - born: c1874 at Markdale, NSW marr: c1891 (registered at Yass, NSW) to: William Joseph NEWMAN died: May 8th, 1960 at Berrima, NSW

7. Eliza Mary - born: c1876 at Markdale, NSW died: c1877 at Markdale, NSW

8. Lydia Maria - born: April 18th, 1878 at Markdale, NSW marr: c1894 (registered at Burrowa, NSW) to: Henry Thomas GOODE died: June 2nd, 1950 at Yass, NSW
