5. Wood Coffill (Katoomba) Burial Records Volume 2 1946-1967

600 pages of records relating to Wood Coffill & Co burials organised by their Katoomba office from 1945 to 1967 - with 4 to 6 entries on each page! If information is recorded, the entries include full name, date of death, age, place of death (many at small private hospitals which no longer exist), date and place of burial, name and address of informant as well as the relationship. In some cases the minister's name has been recorded.

The notes are particularly valuable to family historians, and many contain information not to be found elsewhere. Notes that the funeral company is to insert death or funeral notices include the wording and in most cases the newspapers are named such as the SMH or Lithgow Mercury. You may not have known the death was announced on 2KA - the Katoomba radio station. The vehicles booked for the funeral are also listed eg. motor hearse only or 1 hearse and 2 cars.

The upper Blue Mountains had 2 TB sanatoria at Wentworth Falls and numerous other hospitals, so entries give details such for a lady who died at Bodington Hospital "remove from hospital to Camperdown, thence to Northern Suburbs Crematorium where friends will meet". For a person, possibly in Katoomba on holidays, and who died at the at the Palais Royale, it was "meet 11.45am train at Central and move to George Street Chapel" while in others the coffin was to be on the 6.45am train to Central then transfered to the train for Mudgee, Dubbo, Melbourne etc.
