SAUNDERS, Eva Gwendolyn - 77, Berwick, Kings County, died December 3, 1994,in Harbourview Haven, Lunenburg. Born in Berwick, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Bessie (Cox) Saunders. She was a graduate of Provincial Normal College, Macks Business College, Columbia Bible College in South Carolina and Acadia University. She was a missionary in India from 1941-1946 and was employed at Camp Hill Hospital as a stenographer until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of Berwick Baptist Church; Mission Bible Church, Halifax and former member of WCTU. She is survived by brothers, Edmund, Lunenburg; Douglas, Berwick; sisters, Margaret (Mrs. Fred Fowke), Bridgewater; Amanda (Mrs. Paul Whitman), Kentville; Cecilia (Mrs. Weldon Adamson), Stellarton; Emily Beaton, Victoria, B.C.; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Guilford. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. today in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Berwick. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Berwick Baptist Church, Rev. Gordon Walker officiating. Burial will be in Berwick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Berwick Baptist Church, Women's Missionary Society or any charity. SAUNDERS, Margaret Winnifred � 94, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2009, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in North Kingston, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Leslie T. and Rena S. (Loomer) Howell. Margaret had taught school in Kings County for 42 years, retiring from A.V.M. Morfee School, C.F.B., Greenwood in 1979. She was a member of the Kingston United Church, where she had been a member of the United Church Women. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are her children, Leslie (Myrna) Saunders, Burlington; Richie Saunders, Auburn; Noreen (Laurie) Dunham, Harbourville; grandchildren, Julia MacDonnell, Paul Saunders, Bruce and Karen Dunham, Terry Saunders and Margaret Ann Fenech; 14 great-grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Everett B. Saunders; son, Phillip E. Saunders in infancy; brother, Donald (Dorothy) Howell; sisters, Genevieve (Fred) Sweeney; Bertha (Arthur) Wood. Visitation will take place 7-9 p.m. today in H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, NS B0P 1E0, where the funeral service will take place 2 p.m., Thursday, July 2, Rev. Michael Mugford officiating, assisted by Rev. Linda Winton. SMITH, Alice Marguerite - 82, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away August 17, 2005, at home. Born in Stewiacke, she was a daughter of the late Cecil and May Lyda (Ellis) Cruikshanks. For many years she and her late husband lovingly restored their home on Willow Avenue, which was the oldest home in Berwick. She was a member of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, the Berwick Curling Club and the Paragon Golf and Country Club. She was an avid bridge player and loved to travel. Surviving are her son, Robert (Irma) Smith, Clinton, Wash.; grandchildren, Douglas (Cindy) Smith, Eugene, Ore.; Kerri (Isaac) Lee, San Diego; great-grandchildren, Ainsley Smith and Tristen Lee; sisters, Trudy Clark, Portland, Ore.; Eva Wandzura, Calgary. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis Wilfred Smith. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Monday, August 22, in H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick (902-538-9900). The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, in St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Berwick, Father Larry Pitcher officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville. SPENCER, Timothy Allan - 44, Waterville, Kings Co., passed away August 19, 2005, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Berwick, Kings Co., he was a son of Helen (Gillis) Spencer, Waterville, and the late Robert Allan Spencer. Timothy was a 15 year member of the Waterville and District Volunteer Fire Department. Besides his mother, he is survived by a son, Robert Allan Spencer, Waterville; brothers, Malcolm (Donna) Spencer, Robert "Yogi" (Lynn) Spencer, all of Waterville; Jeffery (Tracy) Spencer, Windsor; sisters, Elizabeth "Ann" (Gary) DeMont, Amherst; Pandora Taylor, Waterville; Shelly (Donald) Guest, Wallace; Becky Surrette, Berwick; Sherry Levack, Black Rock; six nieces; eight nephews; one great-niece, and one great-nephew. Besides his father, he was predeceased by a brother, Michael. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, August 21, in H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick (902-538-9900). The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday in Waterville Baptist Church, Pastor Randy Crozier and Rev. SPURR, Delma Editha - 72, Aylesford, Kings County, died Tuesday in Western Kings Memorial Hospital, Berwick. Born in Springfield, Annapolis County, she was a daughter of the late Thadeous and Vernita (McNayr) Durling. She was employed with Chisholm's Pharmacy in Aylesford for 25 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Ortona Branch 69; Millville Sixty Plus Club; Annapolis Valley Bluegrass Association and Aylesford Baptist Church. She was very active in community affairs. She is survived by two sons, Phillip Wayne, Kingston, Kings County; James Vance, Red Deer, Alta.; two daughters, Brenda (Mrs. Harry Price), Beltsville, Maryland; Shirley Hann McMullen, Aylesford; a sister, Marjorie Bryant, Maryland; 13 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Phillip; a daughter in infancy; two brothers, Vance, Gerald. The body has been cremated. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Aylesford Baptist Church, Rev. STUART, Thelma Reta - 81, Kentville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, Saturday, July 23, 2005 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of the late William and Amy (Chase) Wallace. She was first employed in the dietary department with the former Nova Scotia Sanatorium, Kentville and later with the former Blanchard Fraser Memorial and Miller Hospitals, Kentville, from where she retired. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by daughter, Irene "Faye" (Greg) Cameron, Kentville; sons, James; Ludie (Marie), Coldbrook; Donald, Kentville; sisters, Shirley (Wayne) Archer, Alberta; Margaret Maston, British Columbia; brother, Frank (Emma), Kentville; grandchildren, Angus, Tracey, Cyndi, Heather, Sarah, Adam, Lucy, Anthony and Luke; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Amy Keddy and Violet Sullivan; brothers, Keith, Jim, Bill, John, Gordon and Paul. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. today in White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 26. Burial will take place in Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be made to Lung Association of Nova Scotia. SWEET, Gordon William - 87, Billtown, Kings Co., passed away Thursday, October 6, 2005, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, and has now been reunited with his wife of 58 years, the late Etta Mae (Taylor) Sweet (1998). Born in Billtown, he was the son of the late Henry and Annie (Robinson) Sweet. In 1936, he graduated from Horton Academy with a business diploma and was employed with Superior Fruit, New Minas, until 1942. In 1943, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a paymaster and was stationed in Aldershot and Yarmouth. Following the Second World War, he returned home to Billtown to take over the family farm. He owned and operated K. and G. Sweet Dairy Farm for 55 years at which time he turned the farm over to his son, Kenneth and his grandsons, Michael and Ian. He was a life member of Billtown Baptist Church, a founding member and past president of the Cornwallis Dairy, and a member and past president of the Jersey Association of Nova Scotia. He is survived by daughters, Ruth (Ronald) Vass, Australia; Mary (Ronald) Blaikie and Barbara Sweet, all of Billtown; son, Kenneth (Joann), Billtown; grandchildren, Darrell (Carla) Sweet, Ian (Julie) Sweet, Michael (Cathy) Sweet, Wendy Forsythe, Scott (Julie) Forsythe, Andrew (Heidi) Vass, Megan (Jeffrey) Brown; great-grandchildren, Justin, Myles, Tyler, Malcolm, and Emily. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by sister, Eva Sweet. There will be no visitation by family request. A funeral service followed by a reception will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, October 9, in Billtown Baptist Church, Rev. Randall Read officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville, Kings Co. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be made to Billtown Baptist Church Memorial Fund, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
