"Leila and Ernest lived in Waterville several years after their marriage. They moved to Rawdon, Nova Scotia, and then to Clarksville, N.S. where Liela died. After leaving Clarksville the family lived in Windsor, N.S."

50 Years Ago (1977 Newspaper)
Ernest Johnson, Windsor, dealer in raw furs and sporting goods, informed the Journal on Monday that he had shipped the Canadina Fur Sales, Montreal, during December, furs to the value of over $5,000. Shipments from Trappers from all over Nova Scotia are reaching Mr. Johnson, six shipments arriving from Cape Breton in a single day. Mr. Johnson predicts a much larger fur business next year, as he plans to increase his purchases by many thousands of dollars.

Mrs. Vera Rowlings, 85, Hantsport, died Sunday in Camp Hill Hospital, Halifax. Born in Waterville, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late Earnest and Lila (Banks) Johnson. She spent 35 years in Massachusetts working as an LTN nurse. After returning to Nova Scotia, she studied art at Acadia University and also with William De Garthe at Peggy's Cove. She then taught painting in schools for more than 20 years and sold a number of oil paintings in Nova Scotia. She is survived by her son, Sergeant Ivan D. Jameson, Florida; two sisters Grace Matthes, Nateck, Mass.; Agness Choon (Agnes Cohoon); a step-daughter Leon MacLean, Dartmouth, three stepsons, Kenneth Rowlings, Dartmouth; William Rowlings, Boston; Edwin Laurence Rowlings, Toronto. She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin, a sister, Esther; three brothers Atwood, Orrin and Chester. The body was cremated with burial of ashes in St. Paul¹s Anglican Cemetery, Centre Rawdon. A memorial service will be 3 pm Thursday, July 12, in St. Paul's Anglican Church, Centre Rawdon. Rev. Arthur Cuzner and Rev. Gary Thorne officiating. No flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Anglican Church.

From early childhood, he was deprived of a normal family life when his Canadian-born father died young and his mother boarded him with to an elderly couple (Lived with old couple Mr. and Mrs. Edwards) so she could go to work. Service in the U.S. Army during World War II added to his challenges as he was shipped to Japan to "clean up" after the United States dropped nuclear bombs in two major cities. Marriage to Natalie produced four intelligent, handsome children but ended in divorce after 12 years. Ivan's search for happiness and fulfillment took him through two more marriages, and finally ended with a series of debilitating strokes at 62 years old. Ivan had three wives."

(Wood); two daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. Ralph Bittrolff), Conn., USA; and Joyce (Mrs. George Powell) Penn., USA; one brother, Orrin, Hantsport, N.S.; four sisters, Vera (Mrs. E. Agnes May (Johnson) Cohoon Age 87, Hantsport, died September 15, 2000, in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Clarksville, Hants Co., Sept. 10, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Earnest (Ernest) and Lila (Banks) Johnson. Agnes was a member of St. Andrew's Anglican Church and the Anglican Women's Guild, past member of the Sanctuary Guild and a volunteer for the Red Cross Society. She is survived by daughter, Gayle (Ronald) Mac Donald, Hantsport; sons Laurence "Dick" Dickson (Eileen), Windsor; Peter William (Joanne), Hantsport; nine grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by husband, Harry "Bud" Dickson Cohoon, a son in infancy, sisters, Vera, Ester, Grace; brothers, Atwood, Orrin, Chester. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 pm Sunday in Lohnes-Beazley Funeral Home.
