Robert Kim Stevens has a wealth of information on the Eastern Shore. By sharing this information, Kim hopes to stir up a bit of interest in the Eastern Shore. Kim has well over 500 surname files on families found between Eastern Passage and Marie Joseph. Note that these files are not in GEDCOM form, but are text files arranged in NEHGS format. Kim is more than happy to correspond with others but has found that he has been getting a fair amount of correspondence from those with the "gimme" attitude. He will not hand you your whole line "on a single platter". If you have a genuine interest in the South Shore, Kim is willing to supplement your research and will be happy to SHARE his information.

The Hewitt Histories, a series of articles published by H.E. Hewitt in the Dartmouth Patriot from May 4, 1901 to August 10, 1901, contain information on the history of McNab's Island, Lawlor's Island, Devil's Island, Cow Bay, Eastern Passage and Cole Harbour. Also, a summary of the surnames, places, vessels, etc. can be found here. A big thank you to Anna MacDonald for not only taking the time to transcribe these articles but for allowing the information to be put on-line!
Steve DeFreytas has graciously agreed to provide an electronic version of a diary kept by his great-great-grandfather, Charles Joseph DeFREYTAS, a mariner who sailed out of Halifax, Nova Scotia. The diary is a personal log he kept while on various voyages from 1841-1849. A cousin still has the original diary which itself is in the form of a small book, with the first half being the ship diary, and the second half containing poetry and other things he wrote. The diary is still in the process of being transcribed and and a partial transcription will be posted shortly.
