HALIFAX
COUNTY
Minesville
LOCATION:
This rural community is located at the head of
Lawrencetown Lake off Highway #7.
HISTORY:
This community is typical of a number of similar
villages along the Eastern Shore, developing in the mid-1800s with
the discovery of gold. In the 1860s the area became prosperous, but
within ten years the gold was gone and the prospectors had departed.
For awhile the community was a prosperous lumbering district as
well, but as more trees were felled, the operations ground slowly to
a halt.
MINESVILLE TODAY:
Today, Minesville is an area of new-forest growth
and is popular with weekend cottagers.
