At Amherst, on June 12th, by Rev. D. STEELE, SADIE JEAN BLACK of Salem to FREDERICK O. CHAPPELL of Truemanville.

*At Christ Church, Amherst, N.S., June 19th, 1918 by the Rev. H. E. DIBBLEE, Rector, PERCY EDWIN O'DELL of St. Andrews, NB and GRACE EMMA, daughter of CHARLES E. ALLEN, Esq. of Amherst.

At the home of the bride by Rev. JOHN H. FREESTONE, ARCHIE BURTON RIPLEY of Nappan and CURRIE LUVILLA SMITH, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. EPHRAIM SMITH of Nappan, on Wednesday, 19th inst.

Millvale

The funeral of the late Mrs. TIMOTHY CARTER was held at the Baptist church on Tuesday the 18th inst, the sermon being preached by Rev. Mr. HAYDEN of Oxford. There were also present Revs. J. H. DAVIS and P. M. HARTLEY. Mrs. CARTER was a daughter of the late FLINTIVE PURDY and had reached the age of 89 yars. One sister, Mrs. SUSAN STONEHOUSE and one brother, NELSON PURDY, survive her.
Also 2 daughters, Mrs. JUDSON STEVENS of Thomson and Mrs. EDWARD PEERS of Hartford and 4 sons.
WILLARD, NELSON, GEORGE and JOHN H., and a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will miss a kind and faithful mother.

Pugwash

**The remains of the late MARK DOTTEN, who died suddenly in Boston, a few days ago arrived in Pugwash on Tuesday's early train and were taken to Wallace Bay, where interment will take place.

Mr. W. L. FRASER and bride, nee Miss JENNIE RING of Dartmouth arrived in town on Tuesday afternoon's express. They were met and driven to their home on Prince Albert St. by Mr. O. KANE in Mr. C. R. SMITH's new car.

** Mr. & Mrs. Wm. ROWE of New York arrived in town Tuesday morning and are occupying their cottage at Crescent Beach.

The memorial bell presented to St. Matthew's Presbyterian Church by Mrs. ANNIE J. MATHESON in loving memory of her husband JOSEPH HOWE MATHESON, born Sept. 8th, 1853, died August 1st, 1917, called the congregation to worship on Sunday morning June 23rd for the first time, when an appropriate dedicatory service was held.

**OBIT - Mrs. JAMES SARTORIS

The death of Mrs. JAMES SARTORIS at age of 72 years occurred at her home on Durham St. Pugwash, on Wednesday morning June 19th, after several months' illness. The deceased was a daughter of the late ALEX and MARGARET FRASER of Pictou.
She leaves to mourn, her husband, one son, HIRAM of Wentworth and 2 daughters:
Mrs. MARGARET KENT, Boston and Miss CLAIRE at home.
Mrs. SAMUEL BETTS of Victoria, Cumb. Co. N.S. is a sister of deceased; another sister Miss ELIZABETH FRASER makes her home with Mrs. BETTS.
The funeral was held on Saturday, Rev. G. O. CHEESE being the officiating clergyman.

*OBIT - Mr. THOMAS FRASER
On Wednesday, June 19th, Mr. THOMAS FRASER passed away at his home, West Pugwash, after an illness of several months duration. The deceased was a son of the late SIMON and ISABELLA FRASER. He was in his 70th year. He was one of a family of 6. 2 sisters are left to mourn, the Misses ANNA and CHRISTENA FRASER, both at home. The funeral was held on Friday, Rev. J. R. MILLAR the officiating clergyman. The pall bearers were Messrs. JOHN FRASER, New Glasgow, R. H. MacKAY, Westville, ARTHUR HAMILTON, Moncton, N.B., and W. I. FRASER of Hopewell, Pictou Co, N.S. relatives of the deceased.

MARRIED

At the Methodist parsonage, on June 4th, Collingwood, by Rev. L. E. G. DAVIES, Miss MATILDA, daughter of Mrs. GEORGE McLEOD and GUY HERRITT.

At Advocate on June 11th, Miss CARRIE MAY FIELD, eldest daughter of Mr. S. C. FIELD to JAMES HERBERT CANNING of Port Greville.

**Miss MINNIE TULLY of Attleboro Falls, is visiting her mother, Mrs. TULLY, Duke Street.

Mrs. JAMES HYHAM and 2 children, BERNICE and KENNETH, of Revelstoke, BC. Arrived here on Monday, and will stay with relatives for the summer months.

**OBIT - Mrs. T. A. STEWART

Mrs. T. A. STEWART, Williamsdale, passed to rest on Sunday morning at one o'clock after a few hours illness, Mrs. STEWART was not very well for several years, had several attacks of acute congestion but seemed to be as well as usual and ate her supper with the family, read the evening papers and retired to rest but was taken with severe pain in the chest and owing to a weak heart could not rally from the attack.
Mrs. STEWART was the eldest daughter of the late Wm. JACKSON and is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. C. STEWART and Mrs. THOS. W. PURDY and 6 brothers, Dr. CHAS. and ALEXANDER of Vancouver, BC. HEDLEY of Texas, ISAAC and FRANK of Philadelphia, WELSFORD and FENWICK at home, also 3 sons, EDGAR, of the Canadian Garrison Artillery Halifax.
JOHN in Sherbrooke, Que and ALVORD at home also 4 grandchildren.

Mrs. STEWART lost her only daughter and 2 little boys in one week with diphtheria and a few years ago her youngest son, BRUCE died in Alberta, where he had gone for medical treatment. Mr. STEWART died 2 years ago after a long illness. She was a devoted wife and mother and kind friend and will be greatly missed in the home.
The funeral services were held on Monday afternoon by Rev. L. E. G. DAVIES, where many friends and neighbours gathered to pay the last tribute of respect and the flower covered casket was carried to the beautiful "STEWART" Cemetery and laid to rest in sight of the home where she resided for nearly fifty years.

**Dr. B.M. O'BRIEN who has been spending a few days at his home here returned to Sargerville, Me., on Sunday. Dr. O'BRIEN has been called to report in the American Army.

Mr. D.M. LANGILLE and Miss HILDA LANGILLE attended the funeral of Mrs. PORTEOUS, Mr. LANGILLE sister, in New ANNAN on Saturday.
