A Look Back ...
Second portion of the account of early settlements along the River
Philip. The first grantees on the west branch were: Benjamin Syre in 1858; John Bragg in 1859; and Edward Sweet in 1863; and a Methodist Church was built in 1888, and this community was named Wyvern in 1890.
Among the grantees on the east branch were: Joseph Griffin in 1820; James Fountain in 1828; Samuel Halliday and Thomas Taylor in 1829. A Methodist Church was built in 1854. The first school was said to have been built between 1820 and 1825, and this area was named Williamsdale in 1867.
