Wednesday, December 19, 1990.

As of December 31, 1990, James SIDDALL of Birchwood, will shut his fuel pumps off for the last time. After more than 50 years of pumping gas, James is retiring.

Died - Janet Ruth TOUGH, Amherst, Dec. 12, at home. She was born in Pugwash Jct.

Died - Freda Jean CAMPBELL, 81, Little River, Dec. 11 in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst.

Wednesday, December 17, 1980

After a week of intensive searching, the search for 33-year-old Benjamin WOOD of Lake Killarney has been abandoned. Mr. Wood has been missing since December 9. Search and Rescue units from Pugwash, Springhill, Truro and Pictou and other areas, as well as tracker dogs, helicopters and many volunteers, numbering about 150 in all, aided in the search.

Traffic in Oxford and most of Cumberland County was blocked by the first winter storm on December 13, when a foot of snow fell.

Cyrus STEWART, formerly of Victoria, Cumberland County, was seriously injured in a sawmill accident at Lac La Hache, BC.

Died at Pugwash Hospital on November 25, Victor Ambrose MORRISON, 71 of North Wallace.

Died at Wallace Bay on November 18, Mrs. Henry FORSHNER, 76.

Thursday, December 14, 1950.

R.F. MCCUNN of River Philip was re-elected president of the Cumberland County Farmers' Association at Oxford on Dec. 6.

The yacht "Sylvia Jean", built at Pugwash by Wm. MCKEIL, sailed from Pugwash over the weekend on a cruise to the Bahamas. The crew of the 40-foot vessel are skipper John MCCORMACK, his nephews Evans and Douglas MCKEIL, and Frank MILLARD, Jr., all of Pugwash.

Died at Oxford on November 27, Mrs. Daniel HENDSBEE, 79, formerly of Port Howe.

Died at East Leicester on December 7, Fred W. PURDY, 57, farmer and mail driver.

Died at Wallace on December 9, Thomas E. FLYNN, 76, superintendent of Wallace stone quarry until his retirement several years ago.

A disastrous fire occurred at the Malagash Salt Mines on December 3, when the company house was completely levelled with a loss estimated in excess of $50,000.

Thursday, December 18, 1930

Sunday morning Shubenacadie had a $100,000 fire, destroying the Sherman Hotel and 15 other buildings.

Smith Brothers of Pugwash have erected a modern brick garage 25 by 50 feet on the lot where the Minto Hotel formerly stood.
