OBIT - JEAN CARROLL
Miss JEAN CARROLL, who has been ill at her home for some time, fell asleep in Jesus on Sunday, in the 16th year of her age. JEAN was a bright girl of a loveable disposition and it is with extreme sadness and regret that the news was heard that she had passed to the great beyond. During her illness, her classmates and others have visited her, and eased somewhat the pain of her suffering. The sorrowing mother, and brother and other relatives are left behind to mourn her loss.

The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon, Pastor HAYDEN officiating, assisted by Rev. Mr. WRIGHT. A large number of relatives and friends gathered to show their sympathy. The hymns sung were "We Shall be Like Him", We Shall Meet Beyond the River, and In the Land of Fadeless Day, the latter hymn being The last that JEAN had sung and played. Pastor HAYDEN spoke from the test "O death where is they sting? O grave, where is thy victory?", making a consoling address to those who were left behind.

The floral tributes were most beautiful, including a wreath of flowers from her classmates, some of whom were present, and followed the remains in the procession to Pine Grove.

OBIT - INGLIS THOMPSON
Mr. INGLIS THOMPSON passed away at his home on Main St. on Friday, after a short illness. The deceased was one of Oxford most valued citizens a man of sterling Christian character, and one who will be much missed in the community.

He has been active as a farmer until quite recently, when disease claimed him, at the age of 59 years.
The service was held on Sunday afternoon. Despite the stormy weather, there was a large attendance of relatives, and friends.
----(cannot read) assisted by Rev. Mr. KYLE. In opening the hymn, Asleep in Jesus, was sung, and afterward the choir rendered very touchingly the beautiful hymn, Cast They Burden on the Lord.

Mr. WRIGHT, after reading the Scripture lesson, delivered a comforting address.
The last words of the departed were, "He is coming, He is coming".
The hymn, Thy Will be Done, was then rendered, after which the funeral cortege wended its way to Pine Grove cemetery. The pall bearers were brothers of the Methodist church, Messrs. W. H. DAVIS, C. C. McNEIL, M. A. SWAN and R. B. JAMESON.
The floral offerings were most beautiful.
The surviving relatives are a widow, one son CECIL (another son RUSSELL, recently gave up his life at the front) and three daughters, Mrs. D. G. WOOD, Misses EDITH and NEITA. There are 2 brothers living, Messrs RICHARD and HOWARD and one sister Mrs. THOMAS ANGUS, of Linden.
The family and all relatives will have much sympathy in their
bereavement.

Westchester
Mr. & Mrs. A. LEWIS are rejoicing over the birth of a young son.

Death
The other little twin girl of Mr. & Mrs. Wm. BIRD did not long survive her sister, passing away on Thursday last.

Born
At Oxford, on Mar. 12th to Mr. & Mrs. THOMAS WHITWHAM, a daughter.

Mr. & Mrs. J. HARRY PAUL and baby, who have been visiting relatives in Oxford and Springhill returned to their home in Swift Current, Sask last week.

OBIT - GEORGE H. S. DARRAGH
Died at his home in Linden, Saturday, Feb. 23rd, after a painful
protracted illness from cancer, GEORGE H. STUART DARRAGH, eldest son of the late Rev. W. S. DARRAGH, aged 63 years and 7 months. Leaving a wife, 2 daughters, NINA and HAZEL, one brother and 4 sisters, besides a host of friends to mourn his loss.
The deceased was a great sufferer from a malignant type of cancer in his face and throat, making it almost impossible at times to swallow even liquid food.
He bore his extreme bodily suffering with wonderful patience. None ever heard him murmur.
At the age of 17 he became a member of Fenwick Presbyterian Church. At the early age of 15 years he began the useful labor of choir leader, a position he filled to the letter for 33 years, without ever being absent from his post a single service, a record for church attendance surely unparalleled. He loved the house of God, and the ministers of the Gospel always received a warm welcome at his home. He was an active member of the C.ED. and taught the Bible class while health permitted, one year previous to his death.
Among the large concourse of friends and neighbors assembled to see his frail, wasted body lowered into the grave, not one maintained towards him any other feelings than those of sincere friendship and esteem. We rest in the confident belief that it is "well wish him:" that beyond this world of sorrow, accident and death he has attained into a glorious immortality. Faith soars in triumph above this dark, mysterious dispensation and leaves him in the bosom of his Father and his God. -- Com.

Two Soldiers Died at Amherst

Amherst, March 11th -
Private CHARLES P. KNOCTON, of County, NS and Private L. BECHER PERRY, of Cape Negro Island, Shelburne Co. NS died from spinal meningitis at the Highland View Hospital yesterday. Both men are draftees under the Military Service Act and members of the Depot Battalion quartered in this town. The barracks are under strict quarantine.

Another 193rd Man Returns

Private JOHN WALL, as stated last week, has arrived in town, being among those who were invalided home. Private WALL looks browned and apparently hearty, after having seen considerable service in the firing line, and is being given the glad hand by every one. He enlisted and drilled with the Oxford squad of the 193rd Battalion in 1916 going overseas with the others. He was drilled for a short time in England, and afterwards went to the firing line, being wounded in the big fight at Vimy Ridge.

Private WALL recuperated in the Bramshott hospital and was sent home when recovered. Like all real heroes, WALL is modest as to his part in the fighting against the Hun, but his friends are confident that he did, not only his bit, but his best when he came up to the foe.
